The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. Blooming out of the backfield, next blooming down the sidelines, He's hanging with the boys, presented by wing Stuff where Flavor gets its wings. Now, your hosts, Nate Newton, Kurt Daniels, Jesse Holly, and Shannon Gross, we're back finally, kinda kinda Yeah, man, your heart's still in Mexico. Well, no, we're missing Jesse, that's true. So but yeah, my heart stays in Mexico. Did you bring
back some pacos and stuff like that? You know, I spent probably forty dollars the whole time I was there. That was just tip money. I didn't I don't think I bought one thing really about that? Get to yeah, man, I forgot Man. You look, can you put them hats up on the h screen? That uh sham put on some nice ass. It was just funny, how so close to the camera next time? My arms aren't that long.
You don't look that tan or anything. The weather it was overcast the first three days, so we only really got good Son the last the very last day, second last day. It was it was it was partly so did you what you to? You? And your mom? And who else went Patty stop? Yeah for real? I sho serious? So your mom is Patty? Yeah, Nate, all of them trying to are you looking at a minute and a half into the show and you already trying to piss
my mom? Trying to get me in trouble. We ain't been on the air and together and three weeks and you already and you starting to show off like that. We love you, mama, growth having from so long, I ain't having heard from it so low. I just hope she hasn't gotten loss. We'll get her. We'll get her to call in next week. Okay, it's funny. I was back here a neutral party in Dallas, doing my normal thing. So on our working this guy was truly work text thread.
We had Shannon with these shots from Mexico. The sun of the beach looked beautiful, and then he had Nate and Kyle sitting cold, bundled up hard man beanies, look like, hey, if you can show some of those shots, if somehow some way excuse them. Sorry, that's come on, man, what it is that's that's coach Johnson. Uh you know I'm trying to get in contact with him and reached down up and a few other guys that No, I'm trying
to get in tech us. Y'all know, I'm going to Hall of Fame, though, I'm gonna find the way in that Hall of Fame. You're going, Oh yeah, I'm you know, and uh, and I know John it's a very private person. So I wanted people to reach out to touch him before I did, you know, because because you don't, you want to know my number? So and uh, I want to make sure my name is on all. I want to congratulation coach. Here's my here's my phone, numb an address, so you can tell them phone call me so I
can beat up where to send my ticket? Yeah, yeah, whatnot? You're gonna pay for the Hall of Fame. You'll make you pay for everything you ain't getting. No weather of free, no free ride, no free ride in the Hall of Fame. The after party. You get to go to the after party for that ain't free to somebody going to pay somebody. Yeah, all right, what do you want to talk about to start with Senior Bowl? You want to tart with? No
about coaching? No, we gotta get your a couple of minutes in on what you did where you actually await doing all of this in Mexico, so share that with us. First, it was kind of laid back this year, really, Yeah, wasn't laid back compared to most years. Huh, what is laid back compared to most years? I remember, I remember all of it, most of it, right. It was good. They moved it to a new uh, a new property and it's actually one of the properties we scouted for
one of the Cheerleader calendar shoots were years. So it was nice. It was The food was a lot better this year than the old property we stayed at, and it was the property was a little bit nicer. The where they had the pool party was a little more crowded,
but that was okay. So they had twenty four hour room service right right, which, believe it or not, I did not take advantage of frame room service twenty four hours because it was like an hour and a half wait because there were so many people ordering and drunks at three in the morning, rocks at three in the morning. But it was nice. It was nice. We so pool parties during the day and big concerence at night. Yeah, get up about ten eleven o'clock. If you want to
eat breakfast, you go do that. If not, you go to the pool. And you know, it's all inclusive. So all your beverages, alcoholic and non alcoholic were included. Girl, girl, you fen which my girlfriend was okay, God, man, that what you hate? You know, when I was a young buck like you and I was out having fun, you take your girl, huh than all these beautiful women I took. I took beach to the saying this year. This year, I was like, you be looking like That's why I
was more laid back. I told my buddy, my buddy Jim that lives out in San Diego, he's been all six years. This was our sixth year, and uh, there's probably only there's I think they sell about five thousand tickets to this thing, and there's less than a hundred of us that have been all six years. Very few of us that have been from the beginning and at the end. I texted him once he got home, I said, hey, you left your shoes and one of your shirts. I got him, give your address. I'll send him to him.
I was like, I was like, man, I you were. You were more drunk more days in a row this year than I ever remember, or like I've always been drunker than you. Justiz how drunk you are Probably a little bit of both, probably somewhere in the middle. Ye,
But it was good. The very last day, um luke Brian plays the Thursday, Thursday night and Saturday night and Saturday nights usually where they bring all the other people out on stages seeing and the last two when the Cloud in the Sky and the last two songs it poured rain, poured rain, sore, But it was actually really cool because he just stayed out and saying out in the rain and we stayed there with him. So it was good. It was a good trip, man. That's great. Man.
It was a trip we had. We had a good time, so it was a good experience. So I can't wait to go back next year. So Kyle, what have you done in the last past week while Shannon was in uh Mexico. Well, I was actually working and doing some draft coverage right right with you. You know, can we
get some details of what you've been doing? Well, yeah, I'm trying to be modest, I guess, but uh yeah, of course the Draft show and we went down to Mobile hosted the Bark and as he turns the spotlight on back in voice, I feel like it's better for a listener, see no, no, no, But yeah, just kind of just really kind of diving deeper into these guys and getting a chance to see who the cowboys could be looking at come April, and uh, getting ready for the combine now is pretty much the big thing on
the table. So Nate and I have been working pretty hard, and he kept texting me or not texting me, but being right beside me, trying to tell me to text you guys to make sure that you knew that Nate was working as well. He was the one that was kind of ye like the whole I knew Kurt was back working, but I'm like, hey, man, you didn't text this to Shadow. So everybody to know that who's working,
who's having fun? You know, you know the best part of the whole vacation, like the concert was awesome, the thing was awesome, that the alcohol was awesome. Was I would literally get up because I told everybody something's important, text me or call me because I'm not checking email while I'm down there. I would literally wake up, rollover, grab my phone off the night's day look at it. If there were any messages, I would check them. I would put my phone in the safe. I would go eat,
I would go to the pool. We'd come home at night before the concert, about five thirty six. I'd put my phone out of the safe. I check it again. I put it back in the safe. We'd go out that night. I wouldn't check it till the next It was so went off the grid. It was so great, so great. You would have time for how cold was it in Mobile? Y'all? That first day? It wasn't that. It was so Coco's forty forty forty in the forty Yeah, the wind, but the wind, oh damn. I would to
do something. Man, if people are gonna come to your stadium, it's already one hundred and eighty years old, and you got sitting on bricks and steel. But anyway they have that it's in Mobile? Is it at a high school? At the Pebble? What is it? What's the name of the stadium? H Pebbles? Glad People's let's wear South Alabama plays? Okay, so it's a college. It's just an old college, sting ugly. Hey, do we have time to find out what Kurt? We got all day, man, Kurt, I was probably my most
exciting thing I got. I was we were working on some of the nineteen sixty stuff, so I got to go. We interviewed Daryl Johnson, Tom Jones, Paris, so I got to kind of hang out with some of the big alumni. It was cool, cool man. That was sweet. Who was? Who was? Who's the coolest one you hung out with the coolest one or had the best I know, the best political one. Well, I'll say all the right things all the time. That's Derek Johnson, not the coolest one.
Maybe will been big ada voice. Um. Probably Randy White was pretty because he you've seen the tattoos on his arms. Now, he's a big guy and he take the stories. He tells the stories that will not make it on cameras are those on the No, they're not. They were setting up. Me and him were hanging out and talking and did
he use SB more just s more? Uh you know you'll call you a big health if you mean uh you some you know I did he like, you know, he got some words that just and when he says he said it was such emphasis when he because it was I'll tell you what, man, Yeah, I wouldn't want to mess with. He's a big How old is he probably around sixty and he's no, I'm fifty eight, that's right, and so Randy at least ten years old. He told me sixty nine. He's almost seventy and he's still jacked up.
Oh yeah, he works out all the time. And shake your hand, trainer, Yeah, he'll shake your hand and oh I shook his hand one time and he damned there broke back hand. He's funny though, he's a great guy and he's, like I said, he's got some good, good stories. So what we did, Nate, is we shot all these videos for this video put out yesterday and um, if you haven't seen it, go to our social media. It's we got two videos. One uh, one's kind of a history of the Cowboys with a bunch of plays and stuff,
and the other ones this video. Um, with all these former players you were at the Senior Bowl. We got enough stuff out of most of these guys where we're gonna do little vignettes, right, so you will you sit down with us? Oh yeah, yeah, I'd be glad it's sit down with you, man. Yeah, I mean them ten dollars, gad up. Now yeah, hey, but so you did all of that. So how many players did you meet? Well,
I didn't do them all, Channon. Actually he met with DeMarcus where he left and then one what I like that, I did six maybe, Yeah, it sounds right. How long did it last on average? Man, Well, we were probably there on average about an hour, but a lot of that was set up the actual interviewers. Maybe twenty minutes. Yeah, de Marcus got long wind and we went probably an hour. You know what this this is what you know what bothers me on all of this is DeMarcus is a
bigger cowboy than most people would know. And I just wish that we had him, man, Yeah, you know here with us, whether on the field in the media, because he's a bigger cowboy than you think. I know. And yeah, you know I saw pull the curtain back a little bit. We sat down and the original idea was just to go in, sit down with these guys for ten or fifteen minutes, have him read a bunch of words and tell us the first thing that came to mind. Well,
de Marcus he works over in South Lake. He started his own like exercise company, and he's got like a science behind it, and he's worked, he's trainer certified, and he's really into social media and digital media. He's got his own cameras, he's got his own camera guy. He does his own all this on. So he and I started talking, and when we sat him down, he wound up talking for like an hour and I would say, hey, this is not this is off topic. I just want
to know this for myself. And I would ask him like the Saints game where he hurt his neck and he came back and he played, and he told me the whole story of how that played out. And then I asked him, so about the two thousand. The two thousand was at seventh season where they got the first round by and had a chance to go to the super Bowl, and asked him about that. But we were asking him these words, and I said loyal, And when I said it, I saw him start thinking, and I
was like, I think he's gonna say Jerry Jones. And he said Jerry Jones. And he told the story about tday they basically cut him yea, and he talked about that. He went to Jerry's office and they sat down, they talked and he said, he goes, I want to keep you, he goes, and I want to ask you to take less money. He goes, but I think more of you than that, and I wouldn't ask you to do that, So, you know, go test or do whatever you need to do.
He goes. But before he's like, I'm kind of hamstrung with the salary cap and I can't afford to pay you what you deserve to be paid. And he basically said, before you accept an offer, let me know where you're going, yes, how much the offer is, and I'll do everything I can to see what I can do. And he said, he said okay, and he was on the plane and he called him and he said, I'm going to Denver. This is what they're offering me. And he goes, DeMarcus, I can't do that. And he was like, I'll do
anything I can to support your whatever. And he said, but I can't do that. And I don't remember exactly how he worded it, if he didn't have the money or if he just said I can't do that and he said he goes, but you know, he was honest with him above the board, and it was such a cool story because you could tell he did not want to go he wanted to stay DeMarcus man. And see, you know, men d don't talk a lot, but when I see him, man, it's certain dudes I know that
live for the brand, you know. And so when I hear him going back to dinner, when I hear this, and I'm like, yeah, he just you know that that grub, that scrub, you know what, it'll make you do what you do. But you know, you know, cowboys for life. Like the guys you interviewed them, they are cowboys. They put me to shame because I grew up a cowboy fan.
But I'll never be the cowboy that they are, the cowboys that they are, because I'm telling you, they it comes up, I'll be like, nah, now I forget that, you know what I'm saying. But they it's like I never know for them, and it ain't gonna never be no for them, it ain't gonna never be no. Yeah, every mind's Randy White told me a story about you. Oh yeah, he said that you're you guys are might have been training camp in practice and going at it. This is like your first year. Yeah. So um, you know,
Randy's the starter and Nate he's trying to back. Yeah, they're going at it and they're getting a fight and they're like grabbing helmets and Randy said, he's trying to knee him in the junk. Yeah, they're going that everything, and so you know they're they're just worn out. When it's all done, Nate still trying to spot. He goes back, sits down at the bench and you know, waits his turn again. Randy's got to stay in there because he's
the number one guy. That day or something, his backup was out, so he had he said it, man about died out there, and he said, you went to Nate after practice like, nay, we can't fight no more. I can't. I can't. I can't keep up with that anymore. I'm gonna tell you something good things. You really like him. You never know who speaks up for you. You know
that burnt, don't burn no bridges. Sometimes it best just keep your mouth closed because you don't never know what people really think about you open your mouth and then they do form opinion of you. And I so I grew up on these guys. And Jimmy Johnson called him in the office and asked, those two guys, what do you think about Nate? No he may be big, but you need to keep this guy. And so I know
forgot that, and that's what I said him. Us. So what I've been a man enough of cowboy enough or whatever it takes to you know, Wow, man, this dude you can see their future. And you tell a coach, a brand new young coach, hey, you know, keep this guy. He's gonna be all right. Yeah, Randy said that too. He said he told him that, Yeah, I gotta keep nai. Yeah. You know what's crazy if you think about it, like, you only get and this is not just football, but
everything in life. You only get a certain amount of opportunities, thank you to advance. I guess your station or your status or your job or they don't come around all the time. And I read a book one time that was saying people that really elevate themselves are able to recognize when opportunities go by, and when most people don't recognize an opportunity, you just recognize it as oh, you
just cruise through life. But something like that, you you had already been a free agent, you were trying to make this team. Yes you may this may have been your last opportunity. And to know that you were close to not making the team, and you had certain people speak up for you. And you know, even though you had the talent, you had a chance with the Red Skins, you had a chance here if you would have gotten cut,
who who knows what happened? You know, And it's just you see, you don't want to go down that role, that blind role, right, you know. And I'll give you a messed up analogy when the judge say, hey, sir, we're gonna offer you five years. But you know what, you can take you to a jewelry child and you may get off and you may get a hundred. That's a blind role. Give me the five ends. Not sure what the other one, But what's the reason? What you think? Oh that ain't yes, sir, Oh, sir, I thought it
was pretty pretty hat he's wearing. Yeah, he'll be back. Can I tell you one more cool moment from yet? You can barely see him down to the bottom right of the street. This might have been the coolest moment. We're in Roger star backs off, Yes, setting up? Wow, who walks in? What? Yeah? So he just his people were meeting with Rogers people, probably some investment deal or something. So here you had like it was just kind of cool to see these are like two of the Mount
rushmoors of Dallas sports. Yes, yes, and they're just they're just hanging out to talk, talking, and it's like, yeah, and from two different generations and two different sports and two different worlds. Yeah, yeah, they were yeah Germany, and Roger was in the Navy over here. That's crazy. Yeah, and the Navy had to go over there and bombing him. Yeah. It was just cool moment to kind of be that wall I didn't know to beat Dirk, and you know, it's cool he met Dirk. Yeah, I got to shake
his hand. You've been holding out on me this first I've heard about it. He's very friendly. It was. It was pretty good. Man. Oh, he's one of the most laid back athletes I've ever been around. Ever. We'll talk to him anyone. You know. He's even friendlier than Nate. Yeah. Yeah, because I can get mood. Yeah. Man, So we will go, but thirty minutes because we ain't got jess Man, we
don't want to get into Let's take a break. Now, enough about us, let's get into we gotta hold Roger whole workbook of coaches that have been named to this staff. I have kind of a funny story about they had media day basically with the coaches on Monday. I have a kind of a funny story from my point of view anyway, and I'll tell that whenever I get back here.

Yeah, I don't know what it is about Mexico when I go, I have to buy stupid hats. Look good, man, look good at me. It's fun fun, all right. Something else that was fun
this week Monday. They I don't know if it was the official announcement or if it was just to get to know the guys, but I think it's the first time they've officially said here's our here's our guys. Yeah. Brought in all the all of Mike McCarthy and his staff and it was kind of funny. It worked out really well, but it was kind of funny the way they did it. They brought them in kind of in shifts. Were you down there? No, I went, we were doing
a thing that wasn't No, that wasn't there. Um. They did them in shifts, and they printed out on pieces of paper the guy's name and then under his name the position that he was coaching, and they stuck him. They taped him on the wall all the way down by the locker room. So you have four or five, maybe six guys talking at one time with the tape with their on the wall, and they had him all the way around the corner, and it was like freshman
orientation because all the media guys would swarm in. Well, I'd been in Mexico and I hadn't caught up on that they had named the whole staff. So I'm just walking along the wall reading the name because I had no idea reading the names, reading the position coaches, um. So it was kind of cool the way that they did it. And we got a couple of former or
several former players on the on the coaching staff. Kirt go through, did anybody surprise you guys that they brought back or that they they hired that they brought in that did any names pout at you like, WHOA, that's a that's a big name, or that's a guy that I didn't see being on the staff. I would say no, I mean maybe Skip Pete. I think Skip Pete's great. I'm glad he's back. I guess I didn't. It surprised me a little bit, like when they first hired coach maccarthur,
the first name I heard was Skip Pete. But then when they said it was going at a kid at Texas. I'm like, wow, what happened to skilp, you know what? Saying? Skill pop back on the scene. So that was a good hire. Bringing back leon Let I think was a good high rehire. What do you know about Joe Filman? Much about coach? I don't know much about any of these guys, except I do know that the best hire on this um whole sheet was John Fossil. Yeah. Yeah,
that was the best hire they could have done. That's a special team, yeah, because that was the worst special teams and probably a cowboy history that showed up on the field last year. And he came from the Rams, right, yeah. Yeah, And we had some good things to say Monday talking about you know, these telling building these guys up, and you know they're not starters, a lot of them, but there this is their chance to shine and kind of
building up that chemistry and everything. So yeah, and you know that that bothered me last year because your your job, and you can ask Jesse, your only job in most cases is if I got to kick off, I got a straight line in an area. Outside of that straight line, if that ball go ten yards to the right, I moved ten yards to the right while I run, and that same area as mine and that responsibility I have to be a cognizant of the possible blocking schemes and
who can come get me. But other than that, I got to just go get the ball to tackle it. Yeah, but sixty five percent of the time, eighty percent of the time this ball going in the end zone. So that means the other thirty percent of the time that this ball came out of the end zone, you let them gut average almost thirty yards. That's sad. That's sad. Man. So even if coach just come in here and get us to to twentieth to twentieth in the league, that
mean will be twelve spots from thirty two. Okay. One thing I noticed with all these they've got a good mixture of of older season coaches, a lot of younger guys. The one thing I noticed walking around listening and talking to some of the coaches was the energy and the I don't know if it's because they're all like super polite and happy to be here until the season starts and then all the media starts criticizing them and then then they get grumpy and crotching, or if it's just
the way this staff is. But I mean, everybody was super friendly, everybody was in a good mood. Everybody there was just a lot of energy. And I guess that probably should be expected with a new coaching staff because they're not they're not settled in, they're not just used to this is how we do it. We've been doing it this way for the last eight or nine years. It's kind of like, hey, let's go, We're ready to work.
One thing that that Mike Nolan, the defensive coordinator, said, they were asking I can't remember if it was he said it, and then I think Tom Seueller, the defensive line coach, both said it. They were asking, are you going to play a four to three and a three four? And they basically both said, really, in today's NFL, the only difference is if a guy puts his hand in the dirt or if a guy stands up. We just
want to get the best players on the field. Yeah, Like we're not worried about what the scheme is or what the personnel is. We just want the best players on the field. And I heard the dB or a secondary coach say the same thing. You know, what kind of guys do you like? Do you like big guys, he said, I don't care if as long as they can play, it doesn't matter. We want the best guys on the field. See I think that this got lost
somewhere over the last four or five years. Yeah, you want a certain player, and I use the left tackle as an example. You want a guy that can bend his knees that's number one, got good help flex that's number two, and got long arms. You want him to have the longest arms in the world so he can use all that athletic skill and don't let that guy get into his body. So you got those certain guys, So you don't want to get a team full of stumps, because that how to get your beat, no matter great
how great athlete. But when you do find an exceptional playmaker, you have to have him. You don't want for one or two of those guys that may be funny built, but if they supersede everything that's put it for you, you have to take that guy. It never should be we don't value a position. It never should that. I don't know where that comes from in this organization who said it, but it doesn't sound right because you eliminate playmakers. If a guy it's six foot four, three hundred and
fifty five pounds, and he can stop the run. And that's all you bringing him in here to do, because that's what you need. What is the issue, Oh, he's not a great pass rushing, Well you just went out and page be stoy that us. All he gotta do is continue to maintain his run gap and just runs straight ahead. That's what most teams do, not they get a big six foot five guy three hundred fifty pounds and say, man, on pass downs, if you get caught
in their path, just go straight ahead. Because if you go straight ahead and push this guy back, then my boys on the outside and take care of business. You've been screaming for that ever since we started this podcast. Yes, yes, and and you know we may not get to this today. What do you call him? A big fact swim? Come on, man, every team has that guy, and if they don't have that guy, they have exceptional I mean exceptional guy. That's
that's that's athletic. You know. I don't know if the forty nine has got that guy, but they three technique is so dominant to that guy that does play the nose. You know, well, I say three, they player three four, But they slide down to reduce. Look where they bring the tackle down, where the tackle down to the over the guard, and then they bring that linebacker boser and
you know what that's about it. So, man, I'm telling you, it'll be a shame for this draft to come and we do not go out and get us a run stopping guy. Every team has a guy. Hey man, you got thirty five players and all of the sistem first down, second and short, thirty short, red zone, goal line. That's your thirty plays. Thirty five plays. You're not giving any hope to Tristan Hill figuring it out last year. I
pray that he does. But if this team is poised, and this is the question, how do you visualize this team or do you truly look at them as Okay, they should be in the NFC championship game. But if you're saying they're still building, okay, you want to waste your time do that. But if you deem yourself, hey, it's time to go sometime, I can only go by when I play. Coach Johnson would have distanced this kid so far from the team, so he probably would have
walked away. Yeah, you know you you you only get on a team that's built to win. You only get some many opportunities because we don't have time to waste reps on you to develop you. Yeah, now if we if you expect to be eight and eight, Oh, come on, Christian, we'll pat him on the butt. O bad day's son. Let's change a diaper. Yeah. Yeah, well that's a good question. So guys that are under contract, so free agents, they'll just if they're not bringing them back, they'll kind of
ride off onto the sunset. Yes, if you're if you got some guys that are under contract that this coaching staff decides it's in the right kind of guy. Well that happened before training camp. Well that happened during many camps and OTAs. Will they get them in camp and then decide, like what they think they have to bring these guys to camp. Yeah, you have to give every guy and hey, this is new, this is a new coaching staff. You're playing show us. Yeah, the year show us.
Christian's had a year in our yeah, weight development, you know, so they see what he does. They won't do that based off of film. They'll they'll give these guys a shot and then make their decisions signing some of these guys to be based off of film, right, but the free agent. But the guy, like I said, the guys on the contract, they're telling them new coaching staff, new era or new way of doing things. Show it's who you are. See, nobody on this team has the stars
and stripes that coach McCarthy has. You haven't played in the NFC Championship game and won. You haven't been to a Super Bowl and one, so you you we don't need players running around trying to get players to the next level who ain't never been to the next level. You have a guy that's the face, and I think he's strong enough, you know, and entrenched in the right ways to get these guys to understand this is how you do it, you know, knowing his history and how
he and he knows how to do it. Are you surprised that he's not going to be calling the plays? Oh very much, so very much so. And and see one thing, ainybody, I've never tried to play no games or you know, you know, and I don't do enough radio to even think about it. Series recorded everything that you're saying, bless a Herd That yeah, BI man, I ain't doing nothing wrong. This is what bothers me, man is.
I thought we were getting the coach to get a little bit of his system and put it into our system. But evidently this was kind of discussed with the higher ups and him that this is what how they wanted to handle it, and he and he agreed to it. I'm not going to run around with a conspiracy. Oh what do you you think? You know? I don't care at this point. It is all brand new, and you he's not gonna let this team fail, Jason be it from a higher authority, from by his own free will,
let this kid drown in three or four games. Carson's not gonna let him drown, you know. And I think Keller Moore know he's not gonna let him drown. So he's gonna be more recepted to how they do things. You'll see probably both guys, but headsets on trying to make things right and making adjustments doing the game. So, uh, I don't I don't like it because I know see I remember the McCarthy before him, and him and his main man got on wrong on the wrong foot and
they was in the playoffs. Now, granted you had the greatest man on the planet doing it for you and Aaron Rodgers. But he was there and he was doing this thing. So I love the fact that we have him offensively. All I need is two questions answer and you answer one of them. John Fows straight up gonna get it right for us. Then our defensive guys, and y'all say, y'all have talked to them, and they're gonna run a lot of packages three four and four three. So here we go. Let's see. Yeah, a couple of
a couple of notes on a couple of guys. UH strength and conditioning coach Marcus Paul he was actually Yeah, he was here under coach war six Um, so he actually took over for Voi sick. I guess, yeah, I guess Voix retiring. Yeah. Sure, I haven't heard where he's going. But Marcus got twenty one years experience in the NFL. Another name, UH coaching assistant Scott Tolzine. Is that name sound familiar? He I believe won a game in at and T Stadium. Is a third stream quarterback for the
Green Bay package. He went on to UH. He was basically kind of a career backup guy, went to Indie, played in Indie, but he played for McCarthy uh in Green Bay, So I think he's going to be in some kind of analyst role or some kind of assistant coach. Al Harris that is that is a major higher that him. Another guy uh next to him, Um, that Maurice Linguist. That is a major hire because of the fact that was the weakest component on our on our on our team was our cornerbacks and not that they wasn't uh
they don't have great uh. After that, the skill, you just could see the confidence running out of these guys. Oh yeah, because I'll played in Green Bay for several years, right he was on this was he on the Super Bowl team? I think he was, but I think he went in some overtime game and some some guys said, we got the ball first and because we want to score, and Al Harris came on the intercepting the ball and
wasn't he game for greed? But that ain't think of what game it was because he I kept looking at him as like that guy looks really familiar because now he has he cut his he cut his dreads off, and he's got a little uh, he's got a little goat. I was like man, that dude looks really familiar. And that's he used to play in green Band. The mark they got him, he wasn't he wasn't him many years he played for Green Bay, uh seven seven? And then Maurice the guy, that guy the other DB's coach, he
was at A and m Right played most recently. Yeah, yeah, so is it weird for them for teams to have two defensive back coaches? No got safeties and you got corners? And now another question you gotta ask it is coach Nolan gonna be the guy that connects it back into the front end? Is Al Harrison and Maurice gonna be these guys? But anyway, that that right there? You like
that that we got? I want to know, And people look at me strange when I say this, Is it truly on the players or was it the technique that the players were playing? Yeah? You know, uh, I would hate for some of these guys to go from to another place. Now, I would hate it, but I really don't care. I really don't care. Let me you you she loved me. You know what bothers me is. Can't you honestly look at a Woozia and say, man, that guy. Just sorry. Then they drafted and so can you look?
I know that my little man, he's a he's a slot corner. Uh, he's a slot corner. He's trying to play him anywhere else you put him in danger. That's just the bottom line. Uh. The other kid, Jones, when does it When? When does it become And I'm not trying to be funny here, but when does it come that we that we really need to sign our own guys? You know, Wilson outa here? Secondly the tackle for Kansas City. Uh, the other kid went before him at Kansas City. Now
he did leading tackle. I'm saying to myself, Okay, when does when do we really keep some of these guys? You know? So Jones gone, Robert Quinn gone, Athley Brown could be gone, and I would just like to see and we'll get to see Ocac. We we we really gonna have to be cognisant. Is that the word cognity or whatever? Of OTAs and all of these things that's coming up because it's new. How do these players respond? Who do who do they start releasing as the season
get close and close? Like whoa, maybe he wasn't maybe you know, because one coach is staff. I mean, I like you maybe to go to another chunty Staffs. Yeah, yeah, you gotta go ahead. Oh that's go ahead. Well one of my questions and maybe you're bringing up um Doug nust Meyer's quarterback coach. Now, how does that? I mean? This is he was up dad, he was a better quarterback coach, yeah than he was coach. But I guess.
But Dak is going into his fifth season, he'll now have four quarterback coaches and he said one a different one in the last three years. I mean, is that are you playing with his mind? And here is that? No, it's still the same. His partner still his partness the other. See, you can't hurt that with a new quarterback coach. Now, I feel because he has his regiment, he knows what he likes. Now that the coach can put in some few little dudes and that you know on the field,
you know hate stuff like this dude. But he has a regiment and a routine that allows him to be good. Now they're keeping the same offense basically with coach McCarthy just adding a few of his things in that they're keeping the same language. So it's surprobably your kidding. It wasn't brought back because because Dad didn't make a pretty good jump this year. Well, the thing is, you know, because I wanted kidding the Leon and I thought Colombo would be back, but we got a veteran enough of
his line that coach, the coach, philbun he's a veteran guy. Yeah. He and a guy that's looking to go out the door. Like the guy that had the first he was looking to go out the door. So, uh, these guys will respond, They're gonna play a physical brand of football, I think, you know. So, Uh, these guys will respond, Yeah, they respond, Man, you brought a couple other guys, Leon, you just mentioned, Uh, Doug Nusts Myra moved from tight ends quarterbacks coach. Get
Pete used to be here. Let me tell you something. And then Kelly Moore obviously is back. Let me tell you something, tell me something, timing, and it's amazing how you go from tight end coach to quarterback coach. And it's just how coaches think. You know. That was the craziest move out of all these moves. That was what, wasn't it. Yeah, And and and then as soon as this is what I got was as soon as they moved him to quarterback coach, it was like such a positive.
It wasn't like, oh, hold on man from tight ends the quarterback. It's like, nah, he can coach quarterbacks. Yeah, he was kind of out of his element. Yeah, so you said it so well as much as we like Kitting, Well, why didn't they bring in Kitting when they just see him? Yeah? And nuts Meyer's sons a big recruit in college. Didn't he in the quarterback? He's a quarterback too, right, Yeah,
he know. And so I'm not saying that what coach Garrett did was wrong, No, no, no no, because coach Garrett rolled up with Kyle m Kyle one, Coach Garrett riding with y'all on the plane. Yeah, he was on the same flight. Yeah, so he's gonna never get away from the Cowboys. Yeah, Kyle, I heard. I heard that y'all had some some interesting uh CO passengers going and coming back. Yeah, tell us some of the people I
had on the plane. So Jason was on one side of the plane on the way two mobile and there were a couple of guys scattered throughout, But on the way back it was Jason will McClay. Damn or you know. And then for those of you who know about uh, like those inspirational speakers, Gary Vee was also wrong. Oh yeah, what Mike Tomlin on a flight too. I don't think he was on our flight. I didn't see him anyway. I think he was on somebody else that works here's flight.
And then there was another coach and everybody's like, why are these guys on our And apparently there's only like I think Dallas, Atlanta and somewhere else connects directly flies directly into Mobile, so they had to connect. I think everybody had to basically go through Dallas or Atlanta to get there. So pretty interesting, all right, nobody was on my flight? No use I drive. You don't fly, yeah, because you're scared to fly. Andre the Giant would fly
and you won't even fly. But Andre the Giant had to use the restaurant as soon as he got off the plane. Imagine those overseas flights. That's that's such a good documentary, so good, excuse me, due to the restaurant as he sits down the plane. So there was there was one player, and I'm sure there were plenty of more. But as the coaches were being interviewed. There was one player that was hanging out and waiting on the coaches to get done interviewing so he could go talk to
the coach. And I will tell you who that was when we come back and hang it with the boys. Planning your next family vacation, make it Dreams Climber Harris Golf Resort and Spa. Man sounded like he had a pretty big shin dig to go up back to home in New Jersey. Hey, wait to talk to him on Monday. You know what, Let's hold off on Senior Bowl talk fill Monday because I bet we got a lot to talk about it. We'll wait till till Jesse gets back.
So find out where he's been. He just flies all over the place. He is a jet setter, all right. So as Monday, as we are talking to coaches, there was one defensive player that was kind of just lingering around. Yeah, defensive player lingering around. He kind of showed up about the time the defensive coaches started talking to the media and he kind of walked out from I don't even know where he came from, but he was over. He wasn't hiding. He was walking around talking to all the
media and he had just had a baby. His baby was like probably a week old, and he was just hanging out, and I didn't put two and two together. I thought he was just at the facility working out or going to get something out of his locker. And then I've talked to him for probably five or ten minutes, and a couple other guys walked up, and then when all the coaches kind of broke up, he was like, hey, he's like good seeing you know, I gotta go, I gotta go. I need to go talk to coach Nolan.
Jordan Lewis actually came up here in person. Yeah. So, I'm sure there's plenty of guys that have come up to the facility to talk to their position coaches and everything. He was just the one. And we see guys we're in the training table eating. We see especially the guys that are rehabbing that have injuries. You see Xaviers Suaphilo going through here with his little card. Tyrone's been up here all offseason seeing you know, Cavan Frasier coming through.
We talk about health. You saw a healthy guy. Yeah, so, yeah, so I don't know if that's a if that's any kind of sign or whatever. Like I said, I'm sure there's plenty of other guys that have been up here. But I saw it, and I just I thought that was really cool for him to come up here and come meet with the coaching staff. You know, basically the first day they were all in the office together. I don't know if it was coincidence that that's the day that he showed up, but you know, I thought that
was I thought that was pretty neat. He's got to be hungry, hungry for a job because he didn't always get a good chance under the last couple of years. Yeah, you don't want to and what is this last year in this contract. You don't want to be just hunting out to dry your last year. You know, everybody want to play, want to show what they value or what they worth is you know, can they be an impact on this team where they have opportunity that That's the
one thing about a new coach. You know. Uh, let's say that's use linebackers for example. Okay, you see what type of linebackers you get. You got, but the coach may say, hey, hey, on on certain places, we don't need you to stand in there, you know, not not you know, all our linebackers fly everywhere. Well, sometimes these guys may ask you to come up and bud heads with a big, big offensive linement to fill your gap.
Because when you when you run a three four defense like these guys have your linebacker make a lot of the plays. But the linebacker are playmakers. And what I mean by that they had the ability to go through people, around people, and over people to make those plays in a three four defense. So norm you have a more stout of a guy or more uh rock solid of a guy, whereas in the uh four three you just got a lot of running got a lot of running linebackers.
You got a lot of guys it's running free. You don't want you want them to be clean, especially that wheel linebacker the week side. You want him always running free, you know, making a lot of tackers. But in his other scheme to three four, your linebackers have to make some of their plays like what Boza does. And I think they running three four, dude, Luke SAMs is running three four or four three. I think they're three four.
And then like don't don't they run three four up in the Pittsburgh w play Yeah, yeah, yeah, and seek of the same kind of guy, right yeah. And see the thing about it is you can't have three four guys in a four three built like JJ is that TJ TJ wasatch. You can't have three or four those guys, but you can have one. Yeah, you see what I'm saying. You can have one, right, How Kurt, how do you feel overall about the coaching staff in kind of the direction?
I know what's really early, but I think you've seen I think it's exciting. It's it's like what you said earlier. You've got a great mix of experienced guys, guys who have been head coaches, who have been through the trenches and done all that, and you've got some of this young talent that seems like they're really you know, exciting on the ball, hungry, ready to go. I think it's a great mix of guys, and it's I mean, we know this team has talent, and I think this coaching
staff might be better suited to bring it out. Bring it out, you know, because like we talked about um Calm last year, maybe there were some times he was in over his head or yeah, they wanted Jason to be able to kind of fill in the gas. Yeah of him and some other guys, Well, that's not going to be as big a problem this year, I don't think because you've got guys that are experienced experience, Yeah, yeah, how do you feel about him as a group? I like it for the same reason that you guys are.
And what coach said was and it maybe the same with Coach Garrett too, But what coach said out loud during this press conference is I'm hiring guys who you see on the first day gonna be like that on the last day. Their attitudes and and and what they're bringing to the table is gonna be consistent. And so if you got a happy coach today, because just because he got a little cold, lamar, you can't get the grumpy coach, you know, like my wife does when I'm
getting listen, you know. So I just love it, man that Okay, it's new blood, it's fresh blood. Okay, old with the young with the new We got old school, new school. Now is the guy that's over at Coach mccarthur. Can he bringing all together in a short period of time. He don't have the window that that the Carolina Pounthers gay with their head coach. He don't have that winder, the window that maybe the New York Giants have to give their head coach is now he's not on the
coach Garrett plan. Yeah right, yeah, he's gonna win now. Man, I think the most encouraging thing to me. And it just looks like, from the outside looking in, that he was able to make the moves that he wanted to make. Like it wasn't like here's who you've got to keep, here's who you know, we're on the fence. It looks like, from the outside looking in, like go build your staff, you know, because the one that I was kind of worried about was Kellen. But he said in this press conference, Hey,
Kellen was a guy that I was looking at. No matter where I wound up going, I was keeping tabs on what he was doing and where he was going. So, you know, unless that was just a charade to kind of hide that, you know, you were told that you had to keep Kellen, it sounds like all of these guys or guys you know that he wanted to bring in. But you know what, as I was saying last year, brother Shannon, is when they when they said Keller Moore
was to play caller, I was so against it. Remember, I was like, man, why you know this is coaches last year, give him my proportune to let him call his own offenses. Well, even if they said we want you to keep caller Moore, he probably said, but I got control of this right, and he probably in the owner's right. Yes, sir, so he's not gonna let the kid fall. If I need to take something over, I
get to yeah, let me. They probably say like, yeah, yeah, you can run it, because mister Jones, you know, even though they may not care, they still don't want people saying, wow, here we go again. You know, I'm being honest. Now, if you're a true fan like most of us are, you don't want to you know, one thing you don't want us Here we go again. Yeah? Right, then the press conference come yeah, well Kella Morris to play caller? Really,
you the head coach, You get what I'm saying. You don't want that because it won't be fourteen or fifteen games before the stadium empty, to be about like six or seven in the stadium would be empty, you know. So yeah, man, I think when that was mentioned that he was okay with it. I think that coach McCarthy was okay with it. He said, all right, let's do this I'm running it. Let's do this, yeah, you know, because you cannot. This would be the filth of six
year for Dak and Zeke and our office. The line have been together for over six years and they ain't getting no younger. So now this window it's going, I'm telling it is moving fast, you know. And just looking through this sheet like, I think these guys are gonna be fun. I saw at some point every one of these coaches smile. I did well. The smiles. The smiles will leave as the rigors of the season lay out right. The smiles me. But I think by what he said
is I want consistent guys. So if these guys talk to you, I think they'll talk to you down the role when lows the draw. I think they've been battle tested enough. Our player tested enough. Because you've got a few players to know that. Okay, I gotta face the media. You do what you do. You know I won't be I wouldn't be surprised though, because I have most staffs are starting to do this. Is they everybody's starting to get tight when the season started. They they don't share
as much when the season started. You know what I'm saying, I will tell you this the coaches have not figured out the pecking order in the lunch room because coach Philbin was behind me Monday and there were about four people in front of us. And protocol in the lunch room is if a player coach gets in line, they go straight to the front, yeah, because usually they're getting food to go and they're gone back up to their office.
Coach Philbin was standing behind us, and I was like, coach, you go ahead, and he's like, oh no, no, no, no no. I's like no, no, no, no, go ahead. I was like, you got more stuff to do than me, Coach, No, no man, show show. That's why I tried. And he was like he was hell bent on not letting me go. And finally I had to fake like I was going to talk to someone else to trick him into getting that'll change once they figure this out, but it's just
refreshing to see them they don't know. Use the old regime, the coaches and players sat on this side of the lunch room and everybody else sat over here. It's just funny to see coach McCarthy PLoP down right in the middle of all the employees because he doesn't know, like we don't normally eat over here. I think it's great. It's awesome, and I hope and I hope we as employees allowed him to do that. I do too, Yeah, you know, because fans can run you off, and I hope.
But you know what, these people that work up in here, they so injured themselves. These millennials are on their phone. Man, no one. I ain't gonna say that about them, because I see more conversations going on our people. Oh yeah, I mean it's refreshing kind of to see our guys and girls that work in this facility be at the table actually facing each other in talking. I'll tell you this before we go. Um, is it Rob Davis? Is that his assistants He supposedly is his guy that came
with us from from Green Bay. Like he's taking care of everything. He's his that's what you need him. That's the guy. He came through the first week that he was here, and I was gone part of that because I was in Mexico. But he came in and for during breakfast and would walk around the tables and introduce himself and shake people's hands and say hey, and like didn't know anything. You could have been the janitor. You could have been an executive. Whatever he was. He I've
seen him still do it here um this week. So it's cool. Man. He until we started, until we start talking bad about him on the show. But he but he's out. I'm coach, I'm coach right hand man. So he told you. Yeah, he see, if you need some come talk to me and we'll see what we can do at least the doors open. Yeah, yep, I agree.
Oh and I'm gonna hunt him down because he still ain't text me his phone numb and all that, because I will, let you know, if to talk about like a dog, Well, Kurt start having the guys back to I wish Jesse man. Wow, we'll get him back next week. Kyle, thanks for being on the show, man keeping us going. Thanks Kyle, all right, you're welcome. Thanks like to committed there. Yes, usually you don't. I don't have to respond. Wow, you know you know what. I'm gonna quit giving Caden props
on this show. It's a new season. It's a new season, so he would Yeah, with the new Jesse will get you back next week. Nate, thanks for bringing man. It's good seeing you again. You look good, all right, Kyle, get us out of here, hanging with the boys. It's been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. So
