Hey boys, Hello, what's up? How you feeling? Man? I'm good? How are you guys? It's great, Man Sharks, Thanks, you always looks
so good. Thanks. Thanks. My hair's growing back. Your hair's growing back. I got a long way to go. Wow, it took you like a month. It's gonna take me like six months to get there. Saying man, Lawson, to stop shaving my head, all right, you know, let's work. I was like, Man, if I start, because I started letting my hair grow out over the weekend, I'm like, Man, the Cowboys lose, am I gonna have to keep my head shaved one so I had no effect on it. No,
all right, what's happening? What's going on today? How are you guys? How are you feeling? Nate? Good? Oh Man, I'm I'm excited. Man. We did a concrete cowboy and good show, laugh, and we we got a sponsor that um brought in some cookies and oh, those cookies are really excited me to see Kurt, you know, excited about those cookies. Man. They are good cookies. Those cookies are deadly. They are. That's why you all need to eat them. So I don't. I had one, and I'm gonna die
just in case Mexico happens. You ain't give it a doubt that all preparation that's tall being prepared today, Today is win day. Yeah, it'll be full blown come Friday. There's no doubt, no doubt, Okay, no doubt. Wow, this dude and he tries to slip it in like we ain't gonna catch it. Curt tries to slip it in. I'm getting I'm I'm prepared. I have plan B just in case. There's no plan B. When you when you selling you selling out for the Cowboys, there's no plan B.
Either sellout for us or don't ride with us. Well, you know I love him, but I don't love him for sacrificing all that money. I'm prepaid for this vacation. No, I'm gonna be ready either way. I'm gonna be ready and either way I'm gonna be ecstatic because I'll either be at the super Bowl for a week. You need to find another We need to do this. We need to do this show from the super Bowl if we make it, when we make it, you down, Nate, would you drive Atlanta making sure it's all the old Atlanta.
I just get ready for that. I am you single, but he better not me. One night, Kurt got one night in you. We could celebrate one night. We could celebrate you know what. The night that we go out, everything changed about you. Yeah. Yeah, the way the way you walk out that door, Your looks when you come back gonna be different. The smell of you gonna be different. The arrangement of your clothes may be a little different. Like in the Hangover, you miss them on the tooth
play the j drop? Yeah, which one? Oh? Yeah? The tooth or Douglass he smashed the set on the toilet, You won't smash it. Gonna be a toilet bro Oh, big game this weekend, boys, this game. You know what every game for the last five weeks has been and this one no different. Man, You win this one. You know what's gonna What would be nice? What would be really nice? There's a couple of possibilities. Right, the Cowboys win, they clinches the division. Possibility the Cowboys lose and the
Eagles and Redskins lose, you clinch the division. Right, Yes, Redskins are playing the Jaguars. Yes, I think Eagles are playing the Rams. What would be really nice is just go to Indy. Win this game, get the hats and the T shirts in the locker room. Let us get some really cool pictures, some great social media videos. Let's don't lose this game, and then come home and watch the night game. I totally agree, and have to celebrate by ourselves. Two games left, then the rest guys get ready.
I want to win the game and I want to celebrate. I want to party on the plane. I want the plane to be like Soul Plane. Do you ever see movie, Kurt? Actually, I'm not saying, oh, that's a great movie. I want to party on the plane. I've done a lot of that, man, have you? Oh my god, wow, I want to do it. I want a party like Nate. So I got a question for you. Actually, this is a great question by Kurt Nate, I doubt you answer it, So, Kurt, I'll let you answer your own question. Got Nate's got at
least I think he'll chime in at this point. Would you rather have Andrew Luck or Dak Prescott? Luck has the better numbers, but he'll turn thirty next year and has had a lot of injuries. Dak's twenty five has a better winning percentage. Kurt says Pro Football Focus grades Luck the fourth best quarterback in the NFL this year. Who the who? The top three? Do you have? Who? Those three? Yeahs? Is two Rivers? Is three Rivers? Then Luck, Brady Rogers, the usual respect. They got a big game
this week too, Chargers and Chiefs. That's pretty big, big for the AFC. So what do you think? What do you think? Nate? You got an opinion on that lot, you know, And I'm being honest. Luck ain't nothing like Luck? Yeah, nothing like when he's not hurt. When he's not ain't nothing like a health to Luck. I mean, I'm being honest. See, I love I love Dak Prescott. He plays for Dallas Dallas Cowboys. He's a he's a he's a hell of a guy. He's a hell of a leader. Uh, he's
a winner. He's a winner. But I think the same Luck with a better arm talent. Yeah, you can. Luck is what motivates and told their team. Uh. And I've always said I think Dak is a is a co star. I think you put a lot of uh not a lot. You give him, You give him good pieces, and he can make it. He can help them be better. You know, Luck will make them. It will make these guys better. Luck he that type of guy. So yeah, man, even at thirty, even at thirty, Luck is a beast because nowadays,
used to thirty, you were on the backside. Now hell, these guys were playing thirty four and I'd be like, nah, yeah, he's kind of innerned yet Yeah he Luck is real man. Yeah, what do you think, Kurt Well? I was kind of surprised. Look comparing their stats, Um, you know, Lux obviously he averages two hundred and seventy five yards a game, Prescott two hundred and twenty four. Luck two tds Prescott one one point four. But there's other ways they're pretty similar.
I mean they average seven point two. Luck seven point two yards per passed, Prescott seven point four. Luck has an eighty nine point three career rating. Prescott has a ninety five point eight. So I mean Prescott's better completion percentage. I mean it's going a little better. Luck has four fifty plus passing games and lost them all. Dak has one. I mean everything either equal or points in Dak favor.
But I'll tell you what, man, just ball test. Yeah, but talking about Dak so much about this last game, if he and looking at his stats and digging into all this stuff, and sometimes it's ugly, but man, he defies logic. Yes, and if he just matures a little bit when it comes to taking care of the ball, he's gonna be hard as hell to beat. Man. Yeah, I mean he's very and I know he gets his comparison a lot, or at least he did of his his rookie year, But he's very Russell Wilson esque. He
just he grinds. Also has become He's become a Yeah, Russell has become Dak. He's afague about one hundred and seventy eighty. I'm serious, he's become When Dak was was hot for us a couple of years ago, and now he's hot. Dak is a two fifty to two seventy guy U thirty two passes or less, uh, seventy percent, you know, completion a touchdown R two, whether it's running a path, and don't make a difference to him. He
is a bottom line guy, win the game. You know a lot of quarterbacks say they are bottom line guys, but if you go into their background, if you talk to some of the fellows around them, they'll find out their bottom line win guy. If they're getting their numbers, they want their numbers. Yeah, you know, Dak, he truly wants to win, because that's how it is. That's how Troy was. Troy's like, I'm telling you, Truy can throw it the best of them. Yeah, I've seen it, I
know it. He can throw it the best stuff. Man. But just think Emmon had one year like twenty five twenty seven touchdowns and and a third of them was in the red zone. Don't you know that Troy could have had half of those in this touchdown ratio would have been out of the you know, out of this world. But he didn't care. When we got inside the five, it was in time. Yeah. You see that in Daku. The accuracy, no, but the winningness to win, yes, see some guy. I'm telling a lot of guys to talk
about winning and then I'll talk. And that's why I feel so comfortable about Sean Lee. I'm serious, Yeah, I feel comfortable to bring him back when he's ready to bring him back, insert him, give him, giving him his snaps because he's gonna be about the team. Everybody's not gonna, you know, And it hurt his hard. I mean, he's a competitor. It hurt his hard, but he'll do it for the team. Yeah, everybody, you win him and be like, oh nah, and let him go. It's all right, We'll
do all right. Yeah. What do you think Dak has this year three? Middle of year three, well towards the end of year three? Do you think he's what he is now is what he's gonna be, or do you think he's got them things? He got a few things that he approved on. What are those? Just? Just ball security? Obviously is one, right? That is the key to this because you came into the league approving protector of the
ball while you made calculated and good throws. I think he'll get back to those good throws, you know, because he'll know his receivers better. He'll understand the offense just a touch better, and I think our office a line will be a little bit better. All those things equate to a better Dack. Now, if he come in doing the same thing again next year, and I'm gonna tell you something, the league will adjest to you and they say, oh, he gonna just take advantage of them, he's gonna throw.
If if you're gonna wind up throwing seven or eight bad passes a game, they can say whatever they want, but you got it, you don't have it. You you a problem because now you're sporadic, and then'll cost your games when the league catch it with you, the cost game. But now if he can get rid of getting those down to one or two maybe bad throws a game, then then you got something special. Yeah you're looking at
other Kirk. Oh, you mentioned Sean Laman. Go. It looks like he's limited in practice today, so he's starting to see a little action out there. Yeah. Yeah. Avon Austin also limited, so he may be coming. Oh excuse me a few guys. It looks like Zeke kind of sitting out for precautionary or just rest. Zach's obviously sitting out. Let me tell you someth man. People talking about timing.
Let me tell you. If a receiver catch fifteen to twenty balls a week at least ten to twelve a week, and a running back run twenty or thirty times a week, what tell me what do he need to do during the week for me? Hey, man, let's get over there in jog a little bit, stay lose, you know what I'm saying to do. A couple of little wind spreads. Go and just put him over there with the special teams guys run back and forth. Yeah, because, man, forty
times that's a lot. You know something somebody you mentioned that we really haven't talked about coming back back into this offense. That gives you a totally new dynamic now that you have Cooper in there and you have, you know, a pretty stable offensive line. Is Tavon Austin. No, not that guy before, before Amory got here, Zeke was the only guy that that could take it to the house. Besides, you had Tavon. He'd proved that you get the ball in his hands, he can he can make something happen.
Now you got Amory to spread the field a little bit more, you can do some tricked up stuff with Tavon or put him in the receiver rotation and just try to get the ball in his hands on some short, quick routes because you've seen he's pretty explosive. I'm excited to see him get back in his lineup. You know, interesting to see how they use him. Yeah, like you said that, they've got a deep ball threat now with Cooper and just I mean, is he gonna take some of some plays in the slot with Cole? Is he
gonna line up other slot? I mean, I don't know, but you know, you know it ain't It ain't interesting to me to see how they're gonna use him just using I'm serious, see him involved, right, yeah, just get give give him the ball in an open space and let's see him go. Because like you said, now with Cooper, they got open space. So now you you know, you're
gonna have to pay attention to our passing game. Yeah you And so it's like you did if our tight ends, I mean, now it's taxing the whole the whole defense got to defend the whole field, you know, And so think about this. Just let's just let's just dream a little bit. Okay, let's just open our minds up a little bit. Let's Tavon's coming back, right, Rest Zach a week, let him get better. You head into the playoffs with you're getting Sean Lee back, You're getting Tavon Austin back.
What you haven't had him involved in this offense, hopefully a healthies. Jack Martin tiring's back kind of in the rotation. Maybe you rest him and give him another week off and you get You pretty much have your entire unit that you started the season with on both sides of the ball heading into the most important stretch of the year, which is the playoffs. Your defense is playing like wild men.
Your offensive has shown that they can put points on the board, can be explosive, and if they need to, they can throw the ball Hell's dac through for over four hundred yards. I mean, just think about it. It's almost like this is all coming together at the right time. And if you believe in this team, why not you know, why not them? And before you answer them, why why do I get the distinct fitting in Douglas? You a voice analyst? Uh? Tim, Oh, why do I get Shannon
is trying to talk itself into it? I mean, I'm in do you feel that I'm talking to fans into it because he's fair broken staring up in the sky. Their hearts have been broken. I'm look, I'm looking to Jesus to bring these people in to believe. As Nate would say, Lord, Jesus, help me, help me convince these people that this team can do this. Why not? Why not? Why not? Hell? They beat the Saints, why not? They're coming together the right time. I'm telling you, man, do
not sleep on this team. Don't. As as our buddy Antoine Woods would say, the human Logue, don't blink, don't blink, don't blink, blink. They gotta get through this game. Sunday though, what was that? What was that? Who? Let's go to the phones, Greg and Columbo. What's up my man? What's up? Hey? Guys? I Scott one of him is listen to the show because last week I called. They asked me, what what does this offensive? I said, more tight end play. Well we didn't say that, Yeah, yeah you did say that,
Yes you did. We don't, don't. I don't think we need Rico. Man. I like that, soult Are you like coming in? He man? And see this is what what what we got now is a bone competition it's a full blown competition now because Schultz uh uh, Kurt's best friend Jarles and Joe let know the snake back. But but what what Hey? What you see this week? Hey, it's your our predictor what do you see this week? What I see is I see Sean Lee making a
name from himself again, That's what I see. And you know, I wish Taco would put his big boy panties on and stop with this Twitter stuff and feel sorry for himself and with the program. Yeah? Did did did Schultz remind you of of a certain former tight end of the Cowboys on that one play where he caught that ball across the middle, put both hands on it and just put his head down and just made him wrestle
him to the ground. He looked kind of familiar, didn't he? Like? Bennett? No, get off the phone, Craig, we gotta go, We gotta I don't know he pulling some crap out of his But we'll talk to you later. Greg, Who we got here? Who'd you? Who did you fix that? Man? Who did you grab out of the hall? Outside linebacker? Cowboys? Yes? Sir, how you doing, mister Edwards? Shannon? And this is Kurt. Yeah, how are you doing. So, how's it going going? Great? Welcome to the show. Well, thank you very much for
inviting me. Yeah great. So what you're doing out here at the Star? Man? Oh man? I just got me a little lunch. It's amazing. The facilities are great. Yeah, a nice, very nice lunch. Um. The guy was asking me about back in Valley Ranch. I told him it was about as big as this room though, yeah that we had Yeah yeah, yeah, so would fit the whole team in there. And the sad thing they tore down old Valley Ranch, right, Yeah, I didn't get a chance
to get those copy of the blue carpet. That was my first vision when I came to the cowboys, who was walking in the night and seeing that that that Regal Royal blue carpet. And that's my fondest memory of when I first got drafted about Dallas. When we got you, I was in the first uh second round. Uh remember they had three picks first year. Yeah, and then uh
coach uh then Jerry Jones. Jerry Jones uh uh told me he said, Dixon called, we'll call you right back and then and I was expecting him to say, you know, they picked Dixon Networks. And what they did is they traded with Detroit and then knocked me down a thirty seven pick. But this is this is the thing, right, So I tell everybody about this. I said, it took me about five years to figure it out. You know, back then, we didn't have um busy you know, you you would have a busy signal on the on the
phone if somebody called you, right, huh. You know, it wasn't on call waiting. So he kept me on the phone the whole time, like in the first round, asking me different thing, what's your favorite color Dixon? I was like blue suit. I'm sitting there trying to figure out exactly what he's doing, right, and then you know, and then so and finally figured out that he was keeping me on the phone so that nobody else could call me. But it didn't turn out bad. You know, I'm fortunately
to be sitting here talking to you today. Yeah you know what I'm saying. So did you guys, go ahead? Go ahead? That goes? No, it was me. I mean you were here in the yeah ninety Yeah, yeah, I was, Yeah, I was here with My last game was the Super Bowl and Arizona. Yeah that was my last game with the Cowboys. So who all you came with? What's your class? Oh shoot, my gudness. Yeah yeah, Goffrey Miles, which passed away.
He was my roommate. Yeah, yeah. He taught me a lot, and it was It's crazy that we were, you know, roommates in the competition between us both we were playing the same position. But Godfrey, you know, kind of floated around and was able to back up a lot of people. So we had the ability to to do that. Where um we had Russell Maryland. Uh, then we had um Alvin Harper I um then uh job everyone. No, yeah, Larry was there. Larry was the last pick. So we
had Eric Williams, Leon lad yeah, Godfrey, Yeah, yeah. It was class. They all. I've seen on TV where they argued that we had one of the best draft classes, you know, of all time, you know, so yeah it was. It was specially for the Dallas Cowboys that that class there, I tell you that class hurts around. H yeah. Yeah. Class really had a lot of speed at linebacker, empower at the offensive line with the big yeah yeah yeah. It was yeah, and and and all around athletic ability
with Leon la Dens. I mean It helped out put punch in different places. Oh yeah. I mean to have as a line background, to be fortunate to have Russell Maryland in a three and leon Let up in front of you. There was nobody getting through to touch us, and we were we were so free. I remember when I went to Minnesota and the first player I was in Minnesota in practice in four pads, and I have never ever seen a center in my face so fast on floor away. I couldn't believe it. I was like,
where does gut come from? I'm like, who? So everybody you know, you know John Randall, Right, John Randall, ain't he ain't he ain't holding he holding nothing? See swimming on first Dame. Yeah. But to be fortunate enough to have Leon Let and Russell Maryland didn't even tone Tony Cassius sitting there, you know, in front of us and Chad. They kept us clean, flowing to the ball. You know. So it made my career a whole lot better. Yeah. You know what how much did you weide? Dicks? Were you? Oh? Man?
When I got drafted, dude, Uh, I weighed two hundred and twelve pounds. They could run. Yeah, and what got you was what got you was that you thought that you can run him over and it was and the dude, you know you're trying to hear, but if he didn't care, here not moving man. Nate's talked about the intense practice as you guys used to say, Oh my goodness, dude, it was nothing like today. Somebody, somebody told me the practice was over, and I was like, was that was that?
I say, you know, but you know, it's a different game today. And a lot of people argue that, you know what I'm saying, but I know, dang gonna well they looked daging good now, I know that for sure. And that number fifty five, Oh goodness, due this man? Was it two weeks was it? It was two? Was it two weeks ago? I was watching the game. You know, you have a totally different view of the game when
you're sitting there. So I saw him telling the guy before the play happened, the ball is coming here, like you could see his hand, like the ball is coming here, and bam, he goes into that in the battfield and makes the ball his side to side is amazing. I mean, like, dude, he's down the line. Uh So I was a little
questionable when they picked him. Don't get me wrong, but now, dude, if he's doing and seeing plays at uh that you know normally a five year guy would you know get he has an amazing nose for the for the ball and being able to get things done. That's that's very impressive. But I can I can see where they're going to benefit a whole lot from that man. Now, yeah, what
was your favorite super Bowl that you played in? It would be the first one, you know, and then my favorite moment of the Super Bowl would be when uh, I mean y'all been into the Rose Bowl because it wasn't Rose Bowl, right, Yes, yes, it was in the Rose Bowl and you know how it kind of flares out and everything and that you know that bowl was when they were done with the national anthem and the
Jets flew over. Dude. Remember it was just like it made your skin cross and it was like, dude, it's like every since you was like a little kid, you know, and you and it's so funny and you know, uh, when I was a little kid. You you score touchdown, you'll say Drew Pierce. And you score touchdown, you say Tony And it's cool. Now I'm talking to these guys, you know what I'm saying, Like they come up, We go up to places and these guys come up to call me Dixon. I'm like, dude, do you know who
you are? You know? And I'm like a fan and these guys, you know what I'm saying. So but yeah, but so every since you was like a little kid, you know, is this is the game that you have always wanted to be in. This is the Super Bowl, dude. And and and then to realize that when the Jets flew over you were actually playing in that game and start, oh my goodness, and what it meant to, uh, you know, to your life. It's just like, this is what I've
always played football for, and this is it. You remember that I remember was like it was hard to set our team down. Yeah. Yeah, the Jets came across. You realized and see this is what really magnified it is how many of us you know, in our era and before, loved the Rose Bowl. Yeah yeah, now we in the biggest of Yeah, atmosphere is the Rose Bowl, granddaddy of them all. And then we plan the Super Bowl and when them just Jets, them Jets just made it all
scene real and unreal. And then the show of Michael Jackson being the half watch that I tried to get Jimmy I and we go, Jimmy you guys, yeah got the meeting. Yeah yeah. So but dude, you're talking about it. I played in the Rose Bowl because of Michigan State. Yeah, and uh we were fortunate up to win in that game though, But but yeah, but like you said, the magic of it being the Rose Bowl and playing the Super Bowl there also and just and it being your
first time. So this is like I tell everybody said, dude, could you imagine And you know you're lolder than me, but if somebody was in the U, if somebody came to me in high school when I was eighteen year old, eighteen years old and pointed to me and said, Dixon, you're you're going to pay play in the Super Bowl in six years, yeah, you would have been like, shut up, man, you know what I'm saying. But just think about, dude, we were that young, six years out of that out
of high school. We're playing in the best game you could ever play in, you know, forever. And unfortunately we won and then we won again and then mister mister year, you know what I'm saying, but I remember the day on I remember, dude, you remember like when the championship game. Dude, that was like the Yeah, I mean that was the heated game where that championship It didn't matter where, you know,
geography didn't play a part of that. It was like wherever that championship game was, that that was the That was the game. And that I mean you talk about Bloody Man, yeah, sat and and my goodness, Young you know he just throwing the ball doing all these different plays, and you know it's like he think of Young the quarterback. I think of Young the defensive line, the whole team, the whole team. It was just like dude, star for
star Yeah, Starford star Man. And then back then, you like you were like, who's gonna win the Super Brow Somebody in the NFC East or the forty nine ers, one of those teams is gonna win. So this is this is this is gonna be the team. So Green Bay was the warm up? Yeah, yeah it was. And that was a warm up and that was the woman. It was. There was some hell of a game. Brett far sterling shot yeah, yeah, games. Yeah, Brett farb is my favorite quarterback. You know, yeah, if anybody'd ever played
it because he's a dog. And then I got to go to Minnesota. I got to go to Minnesota and I got the plane twice and I'm a goodness, dude, So I hit this dude one time in Minnesota and uh, tag on a farv um because I kind of knocked him out a little bit right, so far came over there to him and started yelling at him, get you, you know, and I'm like, too, I couldn't believe this guy's yelling at don't even get his butt up, you
know what I'm saying. I'm like, and I turned around it and kind of sick, but I think I'm gonna get you too. Hey, mans, you this me on quarterbacks? Man, what's what'sh your take on the young young dad? Man? Oh? That is great? Um, I think. I mean, I don't know. I questioned the long ball a little bit, you know, Um the accuracy of the long ball. Um, that's that's my concern. I think his reads, uh in my opinion
that he should run faster. He has the ability. You know, I'm just saying, like, why are you sitting there waiting? It's like, dude, like and then the other thing, too, is that you look at any blocking scheme as it relates to passes. There's always a get out, you know, you block or a get out. Why aren't you taking one, two, three? It ain't there take your get out and golf. And then, you know, because they're playing him so soft because they
don't believe that he's a strong passer. You know, it's like, well, why don't you just go ahead and run the ball for another twenty yards and then get the first down. It just it looks like it to me, you know, you know, but I'm sitting up in the stands and I'm not on the field. But yeah, but he's yea, you ordered most of the game's days. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I mean I started coming around the organization back in about two thousand and eleven, and you know, whenever they ask me to come over and do some signing of autographs, like I appreciate, I'm be like, man, uh, it's a pretty cool deal to sit around and have fans remember some of the things that we were able to do back then, and I sign autographs and do all that.
So I'm pretty much there are a game I don't I don't get an opportunity to speak much though, because I sometimes, uh say, special words happened around They just makes it up. He just there we go. Was was Dixon ever on any of your huh excursions that you guys went on. And Dixon lived in his own world? Okay, yeah, you're talking about Dix. Dix was in his own world? What what do you mean? What you know when he went? He was no, no, no no, no, no no no no. See.
You know what's so funny they do? One time I was out of practicing, Alvin Harper said what he said? He said, when you look in the mirror, what do you see? He said, Dixon sees a goody two shoes. He thought he thought it was a good two ship. I ain't no pack hunter wolf sound of fact, like like late man, Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I'm like, dude, I don't know. There we go, There you go? What they What do you think their chances are this year?
Get get getting in the playoffs? Obviously that's probably gonna happen. Do you think they got a shot at taking it the distance? Oh? Yeah, why not? I mean I don't see anybody out there that looks, you know, not beatable, especially after that performance against New Orleans, I'm like, dude, what do you mean? And what were they picked They
would only picked down. They were picked down seven and a half I think, And I was like, and then I think they were up three from this game, and I'm saying, they're like, man, that that's saying a lot. And then to perform a lot better than that, I think they have. Yeah, they definitely have it. What they have done now is that they are allowing the defense to rest and then and the only way you're going to win a game is allow your defense to rest.
Clock management, you know, uh, location on the field, how are you going to manage the ball, the quarters and all that kind of stuff. As soon as they get
passed all that, they have no problem. And like I said, allowing to that's I mean, dude, that's what got us so good is that, you know, we go out there, we get him a one, two three out, and then y'all going there and y'all eat the clock up for eight minutes, and then we're sitting on the sidelines and go out there and do another one, two three, and then y'all eat the clock up for it. And then
you look at it. It's perfect clock management, you know. So, yeah, you see some similarities between this team and what you guys who y'all were back and yeah, yeah, goodness, it's like it's it's we were just talking about that the other day that we had to number one defense and nobody went to the pro bow. We had to know name defense. It was like nobody who was who? Who
do who get? But all y'all went to the like nine offense with the pro bow and like nobody on the Yeah yeah yeah its just Shall And then uh Wanstead gave us some plaques. Yeah, we know they gave us. We had an awards ceremony in the in the locker room for how having number one defense that gave y'all a number one defensive plaque and everything, and uh so I've seen that not too long ago though. Way it was pretty wow man. Yeah, hey, Doug, I know you're
I know you're a sucker for nostalgia. Oh yeah, before we let Dixon go, do you have any any questions? Well he you know, when he started talking about the Rose Bowl and how fun it was to play a super Bowl there, it reminded me there was a theory that back the Cowboys were the best team in the league, you know, for for four or five years. But there was a theory that you guys played better on grass.
That that it that because like two of the three triplets, Emmett and Irvin, they weren't speedsters and their skills showed out better on grass than on turf. Yes, and so anyway, that just reminded me of that that when you were I mean you guys, when you got to the Rose Bowl and you're on a natural grass field, you score fifty points. Yeah, defense was great. Yes, you know what, our defense was built for the turf. These dudes could
have played on turf. Oh yeah, wow. When they played in Texas State so fast, dude, it was everybody asked me. I'm like, dude, that was the fastest turf because they crowned. I didn't realize that the crown we had, yeah turn a half feet, yeah yeah, you you would be on the sideline. You couldn't even see the guys below their
knees because of the crown. And you know, so just imagine if you're in the center of the field and you're running downhill, you know, to the sideline, and as soon as you turn it up, dude, you're just like floating, you know. And then, like I said, it was extremely fast fast man. Yeah, quarterbacks had to learn that if they're throwing out. Farm had had the worst time adjusting it because he would be so hyped. They wouldn't float, they just keep riding. It took him a minute, but
once he got connected. Yeah, scary man. Oh yeah. And then you know, and then you know, I always believe that Michael Irvan is, you know, my favorite player as far as why we want wor so successful as a Super Bowl team was Michael Irvin. They couldn't Nobody could stop that twelve yard out. It's like nobody do. I tell people all time that that I believe that Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin's they were blindfolded and ran routes. They would probably catch that ball eight out of ten times.
They knew how to run that route. And the ball was in the air before Michael even turned out of this cut. That's how the timing was. And I started to see that a little bit with this guy here, you know, but the guys are too fast on the on the defensive side of the ball that you have to make sure that that ball is in the air. And one of the concerns I would see for this team here is the timing with the receivers. But this dude, this Cooper dude, This Cooper dude. They hit man Super
Cooper Pizza U Pie, It's Marie do. It's like that Cooper Doude. It's it's amazing what he has done for that offense. And uh, you know, when the Dez Brian thing happened, I was like, man, you could you can never you know, not have a number one receiver. And uh, they're getting the best of a many many worlds is that they have a great number one receiver without the arrogance. Yeah,
you know, but you know, you know you did. I don't know any team I've ever played on it didn't have a number one receiver that wasn't eric arrogant, you know, like Andre Rising in college. You know what I'm saying that dag On, Uh you play with Andre Yeah, yeah, you know Dreke Yeah, yeah, that's what I's there. Yeah. And then um, and then you got Chris Carter when he I was up there in Minnesota, and you know they're all they got that air to him, you know
what I'm saying. And Uh so, I don't know. He doesn't seem to have that yet. He doesn't in person either. He's really humble, he's quiet. I thought maybe to me, here's a little ariic cockiness to him. He's just he's caught. He's confident, like he's been there. Yeah, what do you what do you see it out of him? What makes him special? Um? Well, after the catch, I see that he doesn't go down easily. I mean, like to catch the ball, then put his hand down on the turf
and then continue to make yardage. It's pretty good. And then you know he he's mastered the uh separation. At the end of the class, you're able to catch the ball. It seemed just been a problem around here. No, I just say that. I tell you what, he mastered separation. He's a master. Take. I tell you what. Damn there. I watched the last game down there. Every play that there's a little bits, a little bit of there's a separation.
He's mastered separation. You know anything about it? Extend his arms and yeah, it's like you know, you you slow down and then you speed up. You talked about Vandresh a little bit. What do you think about Jalon Smith
out there's oh yeah, yeah, he's doing great. Yeah. Like I said, the whole linebacking group is you know, uh, you know, I was hoping that Sean Lee would have had a little bit more presence in the um, you know, being out there with his leadership skills, and it seems as if somebody is you know, speaking to uh number fifty five, and uh it looks like some veteran is out there, you know, coach coaching him or giving it from a player's point of view instead of a coach's
point of view, like, uh, the guy for us was Jack del Real. Yes, Jack del Rio taught us how to beat Barry Sanders. You know. It was Jack del Real And matter of fact, I think he alerted the entire league as it relates to how to beat Barry Sanders. And that was Jack del Real And I remember the secret. Yeah. So I remember the morning we came in and uh walked past the locker room and Jack said, hey, come here. So we all went in there and looked down and he said, I think I figured out how to beat
Barry Sanders. And we were like, what do you mean? So he sat down there and Jack watching film like coaches ain't watching film jacking and watching film. So he got a piece of paper and he's writing down all the times on the Beta machine, you know, specific times on the Beata machine. And he had marks next to him. He said, well, look at look at this right here, at this play. This is where they missed him. This one right here is when they tackled him. This is
where they tackle him. He said. What's consistent about when they tackled him is that they went after him and took away away. You know, so he would he would bounce and do something random, and football everybody knows that football can't handle random. If random happens, something's wrong, you know. So it so he would he would come, come here, and then he would move. And if you took away the option of the move this way, then that means that the only way he had to go was this way.
And then if everybody attacking so uh. Coach Janstead said that week, we are not going to have or be penalized as players for mistackles. So if in the game what we did is we went after him this way, and then this guy went this way and then I went that way. Yeah, so funny. The year before that, I was just talking with Cassius. Remember Cassillus was on the on the highlight film around like a top. He thought he was tacking. He did too. Yeah, they went
and they stopped. It was turning around. Yeah like that, like we had worried he was still running. Yeah. You know what I'm saying. What he's saying is Barry was sudden he would come here and stop. He was hoping you would stop. But what they want to do, they wouldn't stop. Yeah, they just kept coming at it, right, and so when they and that made them move and they made the move right back into their defense. Yeah. You always was attacking that outside, making them move back
as the guy coming. Yeah. So like even when has the tape, when he has a take, if you has a tate, like that's when to get you, like like my man Spros did. Yeah, well Finn, yeah stop, I guess yeah right, you can't. You can't. You can't stop you coming at it. You gotta keep going even if you missed, Just keep gumming cards going because you got dude, you got six or seven guys that are hunting him down too, and they're all going to take it and do the same type of thing. We just you know,
we just attack them and stuff. So yeah, yeah, and he's awesome. Oh goodness, do you know you're talking about you're talking about some stressed out that day, you know, that week, the whole week saying it's like because you ain't got nobody here, we have nobody on our team. Yeah that was Bary said nobody. Yeah, yeah, yeah, nobody. I mean I don't never played anybody in my life. It was very senders the ever. You know, Deon had a little bit of that. No, no, don't get a confused.
Ain't nobody. Dion was a player in his own right. Yeah yeah, this he's yeah, yeah. But we used to sit there because our defense was always the top five defense, and we used to sit there and look at them and they and they used to be walking out the field. They were still talking a little noise, but not as much. So you're telling me y'all used to stand on. Y'all got the best out of house we got. I was like, I said, you see his ex due. We used to
do the same thing. Man um Godfrey, Godfrey mile. So uh, I'll come off the signline. I go sit on the bench and goff say man Godfrey, tell me he say man, get up. You gotta go watch these dudes. So we've watching watching the uh the Philadelphia linebackers, he said, he said, dude, you about no, No, I'm gonna tell you the clinic was the New Orleans linebackers, them four cats. Yeah, Patrol, Oh my goodness, dude, Damn Mills Jackson of dude, they
have folk. Dude, I'm talking about you. You talking about as entertaining. You know. Dude, would be like, man, you need to watch these dudes. It's like they're all talking. Oh my goodness, goodness better Ricky Jackie just called him Seahorse, sea horse. We call him hard. He just had open heart, open brain surgery. Oh man, yeah, about a week or two. But he's doing all right, understanding. Yeah, but brother, you were the only one man we would watch. We would
watch that film and yeah, watched that field. Everybody had a head. I'm talking about I used to. We used to be on the sideline feeling for the offense. We'd be like, dude, the giants would come in there Philadelphia. You be like, dude, they got them loving sacks on this. Yeah. I was man called us to watch film all together. I was like, man, I don't want to watch. This one of those games when the coaches tell us we're not gonna watch the film, man, we will be praying
we're not eve gonna watch. It was so terrible, we're not even watch Moving on, Moving on, man. But Jimmy, Man, a lot of people don't understand how Frank Jimmy was with us when when it comes when it comes to telling us, and when he believed we could beat the team. Yeah, well I don't care if it's about one, I don't care if it's about a hundred. We should beat this team. Yeah, I mean he did. He was so straightforward with us. Man, once we got good. Yeah, he was so straightforward with us.
I love that. And then what I liked about him is that and how he would build such confidence in young players is that he would go in there and our team meetings on Monday, Yeah, Monday, and like he's like he's notre Domins, dude. It's like, how is he predicting the outcoming game on Sunday? You know? And it's all because he knows he understands matchups. This dude understands every level of matchup in the in the team and
against your opponent, and matter of fact. You know, if you start looking at how he uh, you know, picked players to run his defense or run his offense. You know, he understood matchup. This guy is not that good. We're not gonna pay him that much. But well I knew if I got this guy sitting over here, and this guy over here and then this, it makes us. It makes sense for us to keep this guy in here. And that's you know, making the efficient use of individuals.
And he was a master at that, you know, for real. So man, I don't we gotta take a break, but I don't want to. Yeah, I got and not worry about it. Across the street over there and him you're walking out. Yeah, all right, we'll take a quick break. We'll be right back. Hang with the boys. Yeah, and Dixon, I'm telling you he talks more now you know then before you know, because Cowboys do a lot of like signings with him before games. So you gon have to learn how to talk. Open your mouth if you can't be quiet. I mean that's the most we ever got at him. He'd have talked that much doing when we was playing football. Man, Hey,
I don't know, he probably never left. He was a quiet dude. He was quiet, man, he was He was a lone wolf. How did this just happen? But I saw him in the room. He was in the lunch room with one of the people, and I walked us, the dicks, if you get time from whatever you're doing, come down to the show. He said, I can come down now. Say your name allows you to come down the bro you know. He looked at us, said yeah, your name allows you to come right on down here.
He's one of the boys. Yeah, you're hanging with the boy absolutely, and Douglas gonna come up with some dumb ass questions about Dion sand playing on the turf and they scored fifty. No, no, it was true. It was the absolute im messing with Mike and Troit. Mike and Emmett were those type of guys. They they were. They were fast in their own special way, but grass they were.
They were excellent. Yea, they were excellent because you came down a notch wise and speed just that split a little second and they gained scene like can split second. But if you want to see a fast defense comfortable to this one, you see every Sunday out here. Man, our boys when we hit that turff in Texas Field, they ain't seen nothing like that, Bro, They ain't seen nothing like that. With Dixon and Miles and Ken Norton. Oh man, we had another brother. We sent him to Chicago,
but because Dixon took his place. But Vincent Smill. Yeah, they all had like four or five forties. And see I wanted did you catch what he said when he said, man, the freedness that Russell and Leon, let them run. If you want to see Sean Lee and all that group, that wolf wolf pack slow down, let them defensive line and stop stop doing their job up front. He be like, man, what what happened to the wolf on hein't hauling as much. Look at the defensive line. So the defensive line or
up those those blocks when you got to put an gear. Example, you're on the backside the tight ends over here, So Damian Wilson's on top of the tight end in the middle is our mike backer. We got a one technique and we got a three technique. Or if we running the week side, we got a three technique. Back here, this guard and this tackle got to scoop up to get to our will backer. You are to get will backer.
I'm the d I'm the offensive guard. I gotta take this three technique along with this tackle, and I gotta give enough to to my tackles so he can catch up. And I still got to get to you. Well what Malie Collins and and and what's gonna do? Is they so strong they knocked me back? You running the clear error and the players over there you're running. I can't get off my tackle. He stuck. He stuck. Now the wolf hunter comes and screaming the hollar all of a sudden,
hen meeting him in the backfield. But if I can get a hand and knock knocked back Mala Collins, and I scoop up to you, brother, I got a backside of lane that you can drive a mack truck through. That's a simple difference of a player in front of you covering your behind. I'm telling you. And and Ken Norton and Ken Norton used to be like Sean Lee, it's coming right here. It's coming because he'll be reading you. He'll be reading the guard, he'll be reading the time.
It's coming right here. It's coming right here. You know, like you know what what's the play was? It's coming. They can't tell you the play, but they gotta sen that is next thing. You know. Here we come right there and they're already running. It's hard to deal with the defensive like that when you got guys across your board that's running four or five, four to six, but they're running free. It's like they're running four four, they're
running free. You're running back just he ain't. He chaking steps and he trying to read and everybody is explosive because Zeke can take a smaller crack than most people explode through it. For most backs after about four or five hits like that, where they ain't game. Nothing is zero game. They ain't got the heart, bro, They ain't got the heart. Even they think they got the heart, they ain't got the heart. And Jee Dixon came in
at two twelve. He then started his first year, but the second year he was he beefed up a little bit. Probably got two sixteen two twenty. And I'm telling you running four or five four six forty coming downhill. That's ugly, man. It's like a spirit, like a spirit hehing you read in your chest. He was kind of un sudden guy, wasn't He was pretty Yeah? It was good man. But like you said, Jimmy was good at management and and you know, and everybody couldn't get paid. Yeah. Yeah, they
didn't want to pay linebackers. Nah. They wanted to draft him. And after your first contract, let you go. Kim Norton, man, I'm telling you Ken Norton. When coach Landry them draft to them, everybody want to call that boy a bus out of us LA. It was Troy ken Norton. We found James watching he come from USA, and they wanted to call ken Norton the bus And Jimmy said, okay, you're my Mike backer. All we're asking you to do is run, and you're talking about Ken Norton took that
thing to a new level. I mean you, uh, let me see, we had to strength the power. They call right or left? You all just right. You don't know if he's staying right or left, but they would get it. I'm like, is he what is he called the strength? You know what I'm saying. They're gonna fish kill him. We had to rename him. We revisited it. We can't let the name go. We came in the name go because he came up his shoulders a Kodiak bear with a big old Simon in his mouth. So we had
to bring it back and said, yeah, I do. Man, don't let my wife to tear you from telling me. Well, Kurt, thanks for showing up hell of a show today, which for y'all call him please please big pizza pie, it's Marie Douglas. Please please take one of those clips that they just did in at a drop. Okay, Hey, thanks for bringing Douglas. Thanks for doing what you do. Kent, thanks for doing what you do.
