The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. Flowing out of the backfield ex flombing down the sidelines. He's hanging with the Boys, presented by Wing Stuff where Flavor gets its wings. Now, Your hosts, Nate Newton, Kurt Daniels, Jesse Holly, and Shannon Gross Hey Monday. Yeah, it feels different, does Yeah? Because we've had back to back shows. When we're all here, it feels like we're getting back in a rhythm first time,

isn't it. Yeah, combine news that we won't get into because none of us watched it. So what did that say about the combine that it's not important? Is it? Is it coming to that point? I think it's been at that point? But I supposedly they had the highest ratings ever when they moved the forty yard dashes the primetime that somewhere I thought they didn't meet expectations of this year? Did they not? Maybe I read the wrong thing? Did you watch any Nate? Yeah? I watched a little

bit of Why Receivers. That kid rugs Yeah, four two seven. You know it's okay to watch man and uh, I mean it's interesting when you hadn't have football in so long. It's football even though it's not football, And that's what because it's not it's just guys running around catching footballs. And but you get to hear about guys and who's fast and who's you know, it's only gotten to our

draft show. They'll tell you that. Well, yeah, but I mean it's just more little bit in a question regarding the forty times, if you heard this theory now that the speed really isn't what it's cracked up to be because those guys are moving so fast it hurts their actual route run. Does that make sense at all? No, it makes sense. But that's why when you go when you look at things like um like, people always want to know how fast are you? Right? That's that's the

old adage of how things go. But like the cone drills, three cone drills, the L drill, they want to see that short burst. Can you control it? That's the thing. So when you when you see those guys who run really fast but they perform poor and they're L drills or their cone drills, then that maybe he just has straight line speed. But the guys who have that straight line speed and perform well, and that l drill, that three cone drill where they're able to accelerate, turn, come

back and clerate. That shows more of the body control than explosion that you're looking for as far as rot runners, but you have a lot of it, I think to me has to do with how offensives are being ran nowadays, where guys aren't being taught to run routes. Right, everything now with shotgun go routes, seeing routes, sluggos, you know what I'm saying. So it's like the ends, deep outs, so you don't have to be precise, right, So everything now is it's just it's different the way that the

younger guys starting in high school. So it's so to that point is the receiver position getting to where the offensive line position is now because you've been talking to that, He've been talking about that for years. What Jesse is talking about, this free flowing where you just gotta offense people crossing pig you know, deep outs, deep ends, you know.

And they showed a lot of that, uh to with Kurt Warner where they're showing guys it's doing all these things you're talking about that and the ain't so much that they precise it's just the things that they do. But still it's gonna come down to those guys that at the end of games being able to read those coverages and to see what's in there, because that ain't gonna change. Yeah, why are they doing that knowing that?

What is it just easier? What's that? Well, you're going to that where the routes aren't it's precisely from Yeah, well, because you have to understand what's being taught in high school. Eventually, those guys are matriculating to the National Football League. Look at Kansas City's offensive right, you'll see a lot of

deep overs, a lot of deep posts. Right, all of these is okay, Cheetah, if we can just hold the protection, I want you to starting to slot over here and run twenty five yards that way, and whoever's guarding him can't run twenty five yards on the over route. And now I have so much room to throw the ball into that I can't miss. And I take everyone else and just drive him down the field and let Cheetah

run an over route. Yeah, who gonna guard that? Or now Cheetah runs an over route and then everyone flows this way. He puts the brakes one, he goes that way. With Patrick Mahomes, if the protection is there, he can go fourteen yards this way. And now you're chasing up and he goes and he goes back to the corner and Patrick can throw at sixty yards. That's what look look at high school football. If you watch high school football, now, all you're saying is tunnel screens, gold routes overs look

at college tunnel screens. So are you seeing are you seeing the receiver position get less technical kind of like what Nate seeing with the offensive line, Like you're just it's just raw talent now and it's not as much as hand fighting and positioning, and well you can't. The game has changed to where you can't touch guys anymore. Now as a receiver, I'm saying, okay, great, but you can't touch anybody anymore. You can't be physical with a guy anymore. So now this is why you don't have

to have the big receivers anymore. Because look at the drift right. I didn't watch it, but I checked the times. How many guys are running four threes now like we used to hear fourty three, you'd be like twelve guys runna four three and like a running back round of four to three receivers, round of four to three. DB's rundo. I mean it's a four nine. Yeah, Isaiah Simmons running four, he's two forty two four. So now you have to match it like this. You have to you have to

have it to where Isaiah Simmons. You need him because he's gonna chase George Kittle all day. He's gonna chase Travis Kelsey all day. He's gonna chase guys like Evan Ingram all day long. So these guys who have the speed, he has to now chase them. But also your dbs like Jeff Okunia who ran and another kid from Utah who ran for two nine and something crazy. Who guess what when you start to look at the guy, it's

a copycat league. So the Chiefs won it. So now everyone has to match, not only in the AFC, but in the NFC, saying okay, what do we have to do to win our division? And then we look across the border and say what are they doing over there? And the Chiefs it's you got a guy who throw the ball one hundred yards off platform and the slowest guy in the receiving corp runs a four four. Has the league and it may just be when my football

consciousness kicked in the last ten year years. But has the league always been I think the the big team that jumps out to me was when Seattle won the Super Bowl with big rangy corners and safeties, and then everybody started trying to duplicate that. Has the league always done that? And always always copied? Always you say, copy copy, always copied. And but you got a coach that a pioneer that you know, like Andre Reid went out and

I call it the Switzer theory. Switzer used to tell his scouts go out and give me the fastest, biggest, fastest at every position. I'm with the biggest fact I will coach them once they get there. And Reid has gotten so slick to it, don't matter you bring it to him. He can find it. He can find a place in his offense to make this fit. That's why what coach McCarthy said, you're thrown away great players a

position for it. That how many times that y'all heard me say and say, boy, this don't make no sense. You just throwing away players because they don't because they don't fit fit this scheme. Something's wrong with your skin. And I've always talked about that to coaches years and years years. Coaches actually excuse me stop. I don't do coaches things no more because they don't want to hear, like,

hey man, something wrong with your scheme. If you can't fit this guy in who runs a Foe four in high school and you can't fit him in and he can't halfway catch, something wrong with you? Would you would you rather have speed or side speed kills all the time, all the time about like offensive linemen or defensive you know, speed kills again, feet again, Like they said, all right, who if I know he ain't strong, then I'm not gonna keep sitting them up there and letting them bull

rush me. Right, So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna use his advantage to our advantage. He got speed catch, we're gonna be doing ninety percent at the time you're gonna be pulling, We're gonna be pulled. We either if we're gonna run something and as far as pass that, we're either gonna match, protect on your end or roll out away. Philadelphia two three years ago, Super Bowl. That's what their guards and sentators did. They wasn't bigging to just sit in there, so they just pulled them and

you got to go. You got to be able to do this, and that is an old thing now, Kurt, to be even or not because of you, Like he just said, you check some of the linebackers. He's six foot two, two hundred and fifty pounds and running for four or five four five five. It ain't no such thing as a slow dude. They got some defensive tackles six four, three hundred and fifteen pounds five one four nine. That speed thing. You either get with the package or

you get gone. Everybody can run, now, everybody. Now you may not be the perfect cone guy like you said and break off and break, but everybody fat straight run, you know, down the straight line. Now. Yeah, Kyle, you were at a combine all last week. What were you doing out there? What was your role? Well, I was

hosting the draft show. We had shows Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and we were kind of talking through the combine, mostly talking about leading into the combine and what it could affect and how it could affect things with the changes and whatnot. But then Thursday and Friday we talked about some of the results of the actual skills competitions that

were going on. That was your first time to go right, it was yeah, what was what was the overarching experience, like, was it the underwear Olympics or do you think there's value too? I still think there's value. But it's got to be a full piece of the puzzle to the draft process. It can't just be that combine measurement by itself. It's got to complete the scouting report all the way through and kind of be supplemental to the rest of

the process. I mean, you've got six months almost where you're going from the end of college football season, or at least the regular season. Now with bull season and stuff,

it kind of stretches out. But from the end of the college football regular season up until April, you've got all that time to watch film, see guys in game action to where these drills and these specific measurements don't necessarily present a full picture, but it helps you create the full picture of who these players are going to be draft there. The prime example is the wide receiver from TCU. He bucked up for the combine and hurt itself. He all they talked about building him up was how

fast he is? They know he's gonna run this type of speed. Well track guy wax Yeah yeah, so yeah. So what he did was he when did all this training beef this stuff up? When he got to do is get off five of ten power? The first thing, Uh, Steve spills man, this now, Steve husay, I wish I could talk to this kid. Hey, man, you ass you can catch the ball. Don't worry about beefing up. The grown man would come out of you as you played football. You would grow as a grown mane that yet still

playing football? Yeah stop? Why yeah Tech getting out a rout runner. Yeah. But when Tech Gett came out of Ohio State, he was a four three guy. Yeah, and you know what's over twelve years later, still a four to three guys. Everybody to tell you how far was that route? Or that was across the middle of naw or that was forty yards? That's ted and the coach started. Everybody knows but the kid. And then another example us of the Gallimore kid from Oklahoma. Did you see him run? Uh?

Big dog talking to my man in the mic. Oh No, I didn't see him run. I was yeah he was. He was a success. We saw him at the at the Senior Bowl, the Gallimore kid, he was a success. What I try to tell people is, trust me. If they see Jesse at the side that they saw him run there these routes and he weighed one hundred and

ninety five pounds. You don't have to go be two fifteen by time to come back on be one five, run that full fold, run that full nine, or whatever you running so they can see that same guy that completes the process. Let your film. Let what you do on that on this Olympic underwear, let it line up with your film. You just kid from TCU showed a different guy, but it's a simple solution for him. You wait too much. Go back to who you were. Yeah. Another thing that happens at the combine every year is

we get to talk to the head coach. I didn't, but Nick and the crew got to talk to head coach and then they at eighty minutes ninety minutes, and then I think they had a little lunch with him after or something or kind of get to know him before. I check you down right before before the season starts. And I hate you guys, um and then mister Jones

always talks. Usually they bring the Cowboys bus up there and he invites the media on and he holds cord and uh, he let us know that he's thinking about a former Cowboys wide receiver often these days, and even when he's in the shower, which was funny, hilarious, funny. I love mister Jones. He gives zero f I mean, he would just say anything. I love it. But let's be honest. Okay, okay, we can be honesty. Okay, now I'm not saying thinking of another man in the shower.

He did the way to go. That's whatever floats your boat, whatever tickles your pickle, whatever, Okay, but don't I don't know. Maybe it's just me, but some of my best ideas in the shower process happens on the porcelain throne. Yeah, and in the shower you think about bit. You think about work when you're in the shower. What I need to do, this you need to do that's his work, that's his business. No problem with the first time, Like when I first heard it, I laughed, and then I

begin to think. I was like, you don't how to do some of my best things, like on the throne or in the shower like some of my best thinking happens in there. And then I laughed again because I go, he did it to us again, the showman, the the everybody talking, just just he finds a way to keep the name, the brand, the star, the star star in the mouths of your he we're died down a little bit. Okay, you know, another dack thing is on the table. But

let's change the narrative. And now we're always talking about like that next couple of days was does Brian can be a cowboy? He does it like I don't. He is a walking like he's a walking pr nightmare at times because I know, like rich dal Rippel was like, but he's a brand in marketing, but he is a

brand and marketing. And you know, the genius about it is you don't know what's intentional and what's just crazy talk that he just throws out there, and then you think it's genius because he really just throws it all out there and then you grab onto whatever you want, like you don't you don't know if it's a purpose or if it's just crazy talk. But he's talking. So we talked about on the show last week or week before last, is there any chance Dez Bryant is on

this team going into training camp. I guess as long as Jerry's in charge, there's a chance. Jesse, he's still posting routes. He had Jane Slater out there a week or a week and a half ago doing a live remote from Baylor, Scott and White, one of our partners out here. Jane Smart too. Yeah. Oh the thing is, here's the thing about this about des Bryant, He's still

a person of interest. Oh yeah, to the Cowboys, just to the media and joke like his persona and who he is as a person as a player, still will get clicks, will get views, and fans of football in general people love him. They love them, they do. They love him, and so any chance. And Jane has a great leadership with DEAs and Bobby Belding in their podcast and they hitch their wagon to it and they showed up. And a lot of times is for Daz when it

comes to telling his story or speaking his language. Deaz at times may struggle with getting off what he actually wants to say. So he and trusts people like Jane Slater and Bobby beld and Mike Fisher and those guys to kind of be his advocates and speak for him at times, and at times they're really good at it.

Sometimes I don't think they're you know, are always great at it, but there are a few people who he trusts, especially when it comes to you know, and Des is using that as well as a as a marketing tool of saying, if Jane comes out and sees me runs routes, it's gonna be on NFL network, and you can walk up to the cafeteria, you can walk into the training room, you can walk into the locker room. The TV gonna be on one or two channels, and it ain't gonna be CNN, it ain't gonna be MSNBC, and it ain't

gonna be HG, HGTV. It ain't gonna be Bravo, not The Bachelor, ain't gonna be none of that. It's either gonna be the Full Letter Network or NFL network, So one or two of these, and if the NFL network is playing it, ESPN is gonna have some of those clips as well. So it's gonna be seen by someone in the organization or someone in some locker room and hopes that it catches the eye he's working, he's you know, Nate, any chance he's the training camp. But what they talking

about Des Bryant. Okay, it's a less ten percent chance for me. Is he or his routes getting better? No? No, same, Okay. I just wanted to think, what do you what do you think Jesse's got less than ten percent chance? Nate for the comment for the Cowboys? For the Cowboys, I said this before. I do think there's a place for him in the National Football League. I don't think it's with the Dallas Cowboys. So you think he might be on the team, just not here? Kurt, Yeah, I agree.

I think the same thing. I mean, don't I don't think McCarthy wants a lot of those You know, what's gonna be really interesting over the next few weeks is to see if you do a you entirely clean the house, Sean Lee, Jason Witten, You know Des talk, Des is already gone. But are you going to take the step and start over? Are you going to bring some of these veteran voices back and it's still kind of the old regime or is it? Yeah? What if those voices

or carrots voices? Right? Does McCarthy won them. Yeah, that's gonna be interesting to watch all that play out. All right, let's take a break. Someone got paid a lot of money this weekend and it wasn't any of us in this room. We'll talk about that franchise him that transitioning, not himsition. Yeah, named Elie Cottin is a b bank. I think they need him back. They don't have much depth along that defensive front. Yeah. Thank um. Oh, it's already understood. My man going Jones Byron. Yeah, he's gonna get paid somewhere and someone's I want you to answer this question. Man, I'm gonna ask a question here,

all right. I like when you ask this dude here is not good enough for the Dallas Cowboys because he's not good enough for Dallas cowp of of us. He's not one of the guys we deem necessary to pay. But another team if we don't think you that good, why would another team thank you that good? Is this kind of kind of a mixed up thing. He's too good for us? I mean, I'm trying to figure it out.

March second, Monday, March second, eleven, twenty six am. If the Cowboys let Byron Jones walk twelve whenever, I'm just saying today. I'm saying this today, State Mark Marcus, Marcus Kyle. If the Cowboys let Byron Jones walk, they will regret it. They will regret it. What's harder to find a replacement at corner for Byron or a replacement a receiver for a Maury corner, a guy who's going to be able? And I get it. We we live in this world of it's like basketball now, it's like three point or

a dunk. There's nothing thing in between. If you can't done, you ain't shooting three points, you know, good to the game's rights. And we live in this world now that we think a cornerback isn't good if he doesn't have fire sixty exceptions in the season. No, how about when he doesn't let the guy that he's defending catch the ball, Yes, the court, the interception or the cherry on top. You want that, Yeah, that's that's that's that's the that's the

sweetener in the coffee. But give me a guy who's going to be lining up anywhere across the field against any receiver. I am not saying he has to be din Rivas Island, but look at his percentage. When you look at Byron Jones always grades out the top top three, top four, top five in the league as just his grade. He doesn't give up big plays, he doesn't give up the long balls. He doesn't give up, you know, a

bunch of yards. And when you can have that on a consistent basis, that is that is paramount in today's National Football League. I get it, you want the interception, you want your cornerback to have five whatever. But okay, if a guy goes and gets for example, was a man named Peterson, right, he may give you or Jack Rabbit, they may give you four or five. And it's happens

in the year. They're gonna give up a lot of big players it's gonna cost you games, Bob starting one of the local radio guys, just he tweeted earlier today. Among outside corners with fifty targets, Jones ranked second fewest yards aloud and who was first? Gilmore, Sherman, Sherman. Okay, I'm just saying, like, this is a guy and see the two names that you mentioned. Tell me about their defensive line. Sherman Sherman, you're talking about in four the nins? Right,

what do we play with upfront? Dogs? Gilmore? Who do he play with upfront? A guy that was scheme Sacks going to bed. I'm serious, so you you you know, and I don't. I don't have the money, and I don't own a team, and I'm not and I'm not a scout. But but I promise you that when you when you're gonna leave yourself naked with a woozier Lewis, you gotta try to sign Brown. Not right, you gotta try to sign Anthony Brown, right, who didn't fare too

well towards the end of the year. Am I correct? Injured? Be whatever? All right? Because Lewis finally took his took his job. That's my home. WOLLA love you to death. But we're talking production. You gotta go out and draft a corner now, the baddest and coldest dudes Clemson to due from Clemson to dude from Ohio State, they're gonna, they're gonna. What do you do? What do you do? You go out and get trade Waynes, You go out

and get breathing brashod breathing. He free. He got a Super Bowl, right, he can bring that type of swag up in him. But is that who you going to get? Josh Norman? No, God, please please no. If Jason Garrett was here, that might happen. I'm hoping that with Mike here that that won't be. You know, it's gonna be interesting to see. It's gonna be interesting to see, especially with the way this wide receiver draft is this year.

There's a ton of talent in this draft. This yere at that position, and I think if you didn't give a Maori, if you didn't give up so much to get him with that first round pick, it would be easier to kind of to let him walk signed Byron and then draft another young wide receiver to go with Michael Gallop. But because you gave up so much for him, It's almost like I didn't I didn't want to do

a year and a half rental for a first round. PA, you're invested in him, right, So let me just Tevin thich names just reach out to grab you and turn around your defense. Prince Amukamara, Et Apple, James Bradberry, Oh man, but we're really getting into a night Brad breathing. Oh, run of the Arby's out there. Come on, fellas, I know now, I got a name, y'all gonna like Calle Jalen Ramsey. A Mills. Y'all know, y'all like Jalen Mills now, but guess from Philadelphia, Jayleen Mills gonna call what? I

don't cost you some money to sign them? Nineteen? Oh do you have? Do they have the money? Kirk and I don't know the numbers, but they got They seventy nine million dollars under the cap, and that's not counting rookies and everybody. He's seventy nine millions dollars under the cap. So that's why Dak is so valuable. We can't tag him because that's that's thirty one million, thirty three. Yeah, but I'm saying just minimum they try to crunch it

all and be hardcore about it. That's the minimum. That's thirty one point nine million dollars. That's hard that's gone. You can't count that that's gone. Now out of the seventy nine million that it's thirty one million, thirty thirty two million gone. So now you got to find a way to sign your wide receiver and the rest of you guys, because they have all but said that Jones is gone. Yeah, so you know I need some good

news over there. Name no, no, no. Now, well, well we can go back to talking about, you know, can we sign eighty year old players and guys that's been out of the league. I mean that may be more important, see, but to me, I'm looking forward and trying to win and that and that's what we we we we we can readily miss this miss Jones, who's a productive player who people ready to play. But we're talking about cats over here. Come on, man, that is my issue with

everything that's happening. I want to win. I am a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, have been on since I was ten years old. So I've been waiting for y'all to get to the meeting. Potatoes or what how do you build a team? What is this new coach gonna do to build this team? If he gonna get keep getting bombarded with guys that have had their opportunities. I want to hear so I want somebody to ask the question, hey man, how do you really feel about him? Maari Cooper?

Is what happened at the end of last year when he took this kid off the field and if he was mentally we you show enough crushed him. Is we gonna get called back? Really? Is we're gonna get called back if we don't get Jones? Where where do Robert Robert Quinn fit in a Do we really gonna have some extra money for Robert Quinn because this team on

defensively lacks. Is we gonna We're gonna do like Kansas City and totally invest into our offense and hope that coach Snowlan can produce what coach Backnola did for Kansas City, where he just got a team better and better and then when he got into the playoffs, they got better and better at situational football, getting a turnover here, turn over there? Is your quarterback gonna be on the move

this year? Is he gonna stand back there? Man, is everything kind of hamstrung right now until they figure out Dak. I mean, can they get stuck with him? Everything's just kind of but I don't pause. Maybe, but just in the sense, you have to have a contingency plan. Yeah, right, as a businessman, Okay, here's the big fruit that I want and here's what it's going to cost me. But if this doesn't happen, this can't, this can't crush my business. So what is my contingency plan? What is the thing

that I have going as a Plan B? While I'm working out Plan A. Let me make sure my ducks in a row are over here so that now either if this falls through, I can still rebound with this or when this happens, I can add these other pieces of it as well. You can't. I think it starts with Dak. But you can't just you're doing yourself with disservices. You're just focus on Dak and nothing else like that.

That's just that, that's that's that's neglix as you know what I'm saying from For as far as a business man, you gotta be able to to you have to be able to multitask with this thing because they are the dominoes will fall quickly, like and we've seen it before. Once free agent starts, and you know after the combinas up, it's gonna happen quickly, and you know you'll hear a little whispers about people with certain things. But once it begins to happen, now you once once a deal is done,

it's done. You can't now go get into that deal. So you gotta have your ducks in a row so that when said the player comes available, right like Snacks Harris is available, are you working on a plan of how you can bring in Snacks Harris? Like as Nate say, a big greasy let a joker in the middle, you know what I'm saying, or a guy like a guy like Kareem Martin right from the from from the Giant. So there's a number of players out there that you can look at and say, do I have things in place?

If Snacks doesn't fall, you know, come through. But no, I'm working this thing out and I got deals ready to go, I got numbers ready to go. I got places and slots to feel when it happened, because when free agency hits, everybody's going to grab it. And I don't want to be that team we were in the past when we get the when we get the third level, third string guys, and it's like, yeah, we hope we can make that work when the other guys are gone

to contenders. DJ Reader he plays for the Texas. He's out there, but he's gonna cost And the coach said, and I don't know if we have cuts from coach McCarthy, is you know, he said he want to be better here defensively than he was at the last spot. He said, he wants to be better because you don't have to have a great defense, but they do have to be in in the middle of the role. Are better in turnovers, whether it's fumbles, whether it's interceptions combined the two. And

you have to be in the middle. And it's proven that the minimum you want to have in sacks is forty nine. That is the minimum. At the end of the year, you want to be sitting at at least fifty five sacks. So and and and you don't have to be a great defense to get this going, but you do have to do it. And so when you look at we got holes everywhere you look at, well, we got the most free agents are restrictive free agents on our defense that we've had in a while that

I can remember. And so you have to start looking at who's out there, regardless of whether you got da signed or not. And so I'm with Jesse. I know they already don said, Okay, we're gonna get him the none exclusive deal. The worst we can do is we crunch everybody knows in the worst of the show up, it's thirty one point nine million dollars. Okay, everybody's saying

it's thirty three whatever. But you know, when you crunch the numbers to see what everybody really got, it may be a little bit less, it maybe a little bit more. But you you got to start working, like, Okay, we're gonna tag this dude, and you got to start working your numbers from now and so if we but if they don't tag this dude, they still got six or

seven million dollars probably over that. Either way to work, you got your your I think we probably all agree your top four guys in importance or dak Amari, Jones and Quinn. No this I'm telling you, man, are there not here this that the Jones is gone? Are there any other guys that you think slip in there, like I think Cobb's pretty important, Joe Thomas is pretty important to a FeelA Looney or those like your priorities, and

then the other guys just fall where they fall. Or is there anybody that you think Trump's one of those four das obviously your most important, right, yeah, for sure. Yeah? And then the other guys they've said Amari's number two. Stephen said that, and he refused even comment on other guys when they say he's a I've answered your questions on on Dak and Amara. The rest of the guys, we'll see, And so that that let me know right

there that there are other options. And when you got the figure the head coach got some say maybe not in those two, but then the other players, you know, they got something saying this. I just I'm just breathing

with anticipation of I want to start. I want all of these days to come so I can see who's gonna be on this team, who we can start working start looking at, start saying okay, wow, now when free agency hit, when we when we see who the our roster stopped building from that point, now you can really start looking at the draft. Everybody just guessing now. But if they get called and they get Robert Quinn back, okay, and they get a Maori signed and they get Daks,

well you can have a regular draft. You can truly and you agree just as a disgree. You can truly say, okay, we know our defense need help. But whoever followed us, let's said, receive a follow us that, wow, can't you can't pack? Did you just take him? Because it's like, okay, we got Quinn, we got this guy, and we got this guy, so we're gonna have a regular draft. But then knowing that you're gonna have to still get defensive players.

So we have never in the last since we signed the cornerback that that's with the ravens now Brandon Carson we signed. We've been scared to death to go pay somebody, to pay somebody. So I understand that. But we also said six years ago, we draft ours, we developed ours, and we play ours. And for the last for six years, we've been drafting ours, developing ours, and they've been going somewhel that's defensively on my wrong. Yeah, yea Lawrence except for him, yeah, d Laws the only one we've kept

him and Sean Lee. That's on the ones we count before we take a break. Someone got paid this weekend. A lot of money got he got play paid none, exclusive, test Starter, Starter, star Starter, skilled positions, elite money, Tony Romo, what was the deal? Seventeen million a year in three years with the option for a ten year deal. Let me ask, y'all, this does the announcer even matter? I mean, you think that much though? Have you watched bull tests in which I still watch? I still watch. Yeah, but

it's bad, but I still watch. Man you think you look at the Romo has always got the number one game on CBS, so Patriots against you know whoever? You're not going to tune in if he's not announcing it. I mean, I just don't know if it's Troy instead of only I'm good the second or third year. Yeah,

but it's always it's always more enjoyable. Nothing that it's not good and we won't watch, but it's it's it's I agree, it's more a guy when a guy can direct you, help direct you to the right places in the right times and the right suggestions of this is what I would do in nine time. And you know, with Tony or Troy, you know, seven out of the ten times they're gonna be close to that, you know, and even the guys that work with them are awesome, you know. And but listen to a guy's say this

is terrible. How much more, how many people are tuning in? How many additional people are going to tune in, or how many sponsors are additionally Yeah, it's like return on investment. But it is right here gold Let me say this right quick. I tend right here. CBS said we we lost Joe Matt the Fox. We would not lose We're not really that. But but I do think sponsors look at that and go, oh yeah, we can do we can market that, and I can make money off that. I do think fans will tune in, Like is that?

Now that I've been in the in in on the media side of things, people want to know who who Who got this game? Who got this game? Because it matters. It matters when you're learning, it matters when you're listening and they're teaching you some things about the game. The only jealous part I have about that is just I mean, he works three days a week, is it not? I

thought it was four. It's only three three. It's the day before, like like you get in town, then you do the Saturday interview, You get in town Friday, you do the Saturday interviews, and you work on Sunday. He's golfing it. He's probably watching you know, good as Tony is. He probably watch a little film on on Thursday. You know, he said to his house. He's on the private plane. We flying always watching film. Yea, God, I think for Tony,

Tony played, well, how many years in the league? Nine and then and then did certain tame in in two thousand and three, started in two thousand and six. So he's been in the league for over ten years, and

he knows how defense don't change that much. Right if we can look at if we look at when he came in the league, who were the defensive back coaches, the linebacker coaches, and the defensive coordinators, and we fast forward twelve years now, I guarantee you seventy five percent of those names are still working in the National Football League. On defense, Spagnola like, so it's like he's seen just Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Breed, Philip Rivers. They didn't

seen all the defense you can run. There's only so many defense it's only a handful of coverages man man free to two man three. Yeah, it's only about something you can run. And if you're a starting quarterback in the National Football League for ten years, you didn't see it all. So as far as defensive coverages, he can, he can. Yeah, what's the defensive coordinator. Oh yeah, he's historically knowing the run this and then and then another thing.

He know some of these guys offenses, so he knows what fits on what situation and what coverages he Tony Man in the carpool on Monday, golfing all day Monday, all day Tuesday, Wednesday. How do you think Troy feels he just money, his money coming. He makes seven and a half million, his money coming. I mean, he got we're not We're not gonna golf at seven and a half million, No money coming. So do you think he's like, man that I can't believe they paid, or he's like, yeah,

I'm next. Troy also does an extra game on Thursdays as well. Yeah, so we don't know what troy true contract is when they stuck that extra game on it. Yeah, but Troy's definitely like yeah next, Yeah, okay, cool, I mean I get seventeen. They just reset. Ah, that's a lot of money, man, go Eagleton. If you're listening, my contract is up in April, and you know what, you can talk as loud as you want into that microphone.

My contract is up in April. I'm gonna walk upstairs with the ratings of the show of the last year and you're not going to have a conversation. Good luck with that. And I know how that goes. Yeah, you know what that is? Take my badge. How many days are in a year? Three hundred fifty two three? How did I get that? I don't know what fifty two fifty two weeks, two weeks and three. Ladies and gentlemen, that is forty six thousand, five hundred and seventy five

dollars and thirty four cents a day. A day, even when you're off, you were making forty six thousand, five hundred and seventy five dollars and thirty four cents like Tony. I've known. I know this to be a fact. Like Tony has turned down like this different sponsorship stuff like works like three to five million dollars because he's just like, don't need it. I'm not going because I gotta get off or somewhere. He's turned down, Like, think about that.

He has so much money that he's turned down three to five million dollars sponsorship deal because he's like, I gotta go where? How many times a week? All right, let us be depressed during this break. You're gonna take it, and then we'll come back and talk about cowboys. Drink the schedule. We come back on Hey it with the boys. Planning your next family vacation, make it Dreams Climber Harris

Back to Hang In with the Boys, We are back final ten minutes of the show. When you speak nationally, When you speak nationally, this is the way you should naked. Naked is now, but gives we got a commercial we don't nous. We was talking about national versus local and what it means to the NFL and how radio and

TV is much different. When I was with when I first came out of the league, I was young. I was having fun, I was laughing, and mister Jones helped me get some appearance, uh, some some interviews uh with the ESPN all and so they brought me up and they was into it, and I was young, I wasn't really into it. So I grew up there talking about normal Texas, southern uh, from the hood slag and up

in Connecticut, Connecticut. I'm on that every Sunday, you know, talking talking and then they tried to send me to school and everything. But if they, like I was saying, y'all, if I were to have that same situation now, I would never come in here talking like I'm talking now, I would be the most uh what what? What? Where were they proper besides politically correct? Oh yeah, I'll be eating it up when y'all asked me about is that's a national thing that when you look out there, it's

an I would be eating dad's up. I'll be like, how great it not be non regional dialect? Man, however, I'm saying, but you get what I'm saying, because that's a national thing talking to how would how would you lose your southern twins? Would you? Because I would practice, I would how old man. I would hang around the whitest of guys. I would hang around the lightest of guys. I would not be dealing with Jesse what out? No, No, no, no, a southern second. No. No, can you hang around Kurt

a weirdout? Kurt ain't got it going on either. No, I'm going to get me some brothers from Connecticut, some white dudes from Connecticut. And if we are hanging out for like months, at a time. You know, I'm serious, I'm going up to joy R. Yeah, but not not not not not from the right side a jersey. I'll be selling lot man. We don't like NAT seventeen mil Yeah, hey man, you're gonna TV. You're gonna be a seller. I'm like, all the way to the bank, all the

way I'm gonna sell. I'm like, yeah, I'm gonna sign my checks, sell out, Holly, say buy my name. Yeah, I'm not. I'm not gonna go as far arout. No, I wouldn't go as far as your man over there on. Uh, what's my man name? Big boy? Uh? What's my man name? Over at? Uh? F that joker? But no, fat boy, the black guy. I don't know what you're talking about. He hates Colin Kaepernick. What's his name? Will? But Will

Michael Michael Will. The other one he has a show was Marcella's Wildly Now, Oh, I know you're talking about Yeah, I can't think of this, but you know the thing is all I would change is I'll be more conscious of how pronounced words, how structure my sentences. So to hell with us no, no, no, no, no, no, hell us no come down here and say what hell you want now? Straight hand a straight brother. You know what

I'm saying, Stephen. They're a straight brother. But the thing is, you have to be able to articulate to every race and every gender. You can't be this idiot like Nate. Noony just come up and heyn what do you think about? Dead? Who y'all talking about what I'm saying. So we have established that Nate doesn't give us his best effort. Jason and Whitlock, thank you, Kyle, Jason Whitlocke. I ain't gonna sell out that far. I don't know if I've ever seen him. Don't trust me that don't don't need to,

don't need like, I'm not gonna get that far. I might be closer, but I ain't. He's off the change. You know. I tell you and I tell my kids. You know, you have to be able to walk America. You know. I know your audience like Na Nona, and I'm glad good you know. But I know who I am when I'm on these shows. I know how far to go, you know, uh like like teach me, yeah, this is this is that's my problem. My problem is I love the Cowboys and I want to win. So

some of the topics that we go into. I'm glad we're on this podcast so I can sit up like a dumbo forget them. I want to let's talk about winning. Yeah, you know we do that, but we're on a regular radio. This is stuff you're gonna have to because you can't sit on National the ticket to say, well, they disappeared, what happened? You can't do that. You know what I'm saying. I feel you. So he again go back to that, so that he was us and teach Jesse how to

not have an opinion. Every once in a while. I know if I can get that whatever tickles your pickle? Yeah, why is it always like we have a boring show and everybody's reserved and then we get to the last ten minutes and the day of wheels fall off the scene every show? How is your mother? Man? She's great? After the tickle your pick I heard you wouldn't even give Kurt one? Nah? Nah, I told him off. Next time, man, bro we told him we had all himself for he told Kurt what I say? He said he had one,

all of them or none of them? Yes, I don't want so. He never seen Nate moves so fast you. I went hold man, my wife, man, destroy them They're good. I actually had one. So the picture that you sent us, right, oh yeah, you got a pac Man machine in your house? Yeah yeah, yeah, I'm no, I'm looking in the background like the y'all had to send in a ball on top of the pack. Y'all having a little quality. Man,

are you gonna get that? Man? She destroys me and she won't play the Star Game that like, because I destroy her on that but so we I'd rather play and lose to her that right there. But she would be happy, happy wife, happy life, right yeah, because you got a kid coming right m Yeah, I like that. Yeah, yeah, you got a kid. Yeah, I'll put it on Twitter each other. For two, it's not on Twitter, that's why you didn't know. It's on Facebook and I didn't Instagram. Yeah,

I'm not one to put people's personal business out. Well you put it out. I didn't know that. I'm just saying I didn't know that. I didn't in the world, non, Randy. So I'm gonna do your gender reveal on the show too. Already. We already did it last Thursday for who for the guy. I thought we're gonna do it for this guy? For what guy? Gee? Oh that's a different one. Yeah, oh

she already know what you're having. Yes, I found out Thursday, and I am happy, ecstatic in fact, to report that I will be having hey boy, Nah, all right, I get I get to dude guy raising to be a little red neck like me doing red neck stuff. Yeah, a little shit, and don't do that. You know you got letters from the last time this is you know you got the last time you said something let him eat dirt? Is your girl canna be able to handle

to you? Absolutely not. You're gonna have beer in the baby, huh. You got to sleep though. My moms gave a little bit us, a little bit of beer, maybe a little bottle, a little a little bear to right, you go to sleep. Take that. No, I was man, I had I would have been happy either way. Like I had reasons I

wanted a girl. I had reasons I wanted a boy, and um so yeah, it's gonna be a little boy, and which is kind of cool because I get to we get access to a lot of cool stuff around here, like monster I mean, if it was a girl, she was going to monster Jam and motocross and boxing and all that anyway, But next one, so I got me a little dude, Let's tap the brakes, Kurt, Let's tap the brakes. You'll slow that down just at a little bit, all right, before we get out of here. I want

to be an XFL guy. Let's shoot a little higher and then that could be our plants. Let's do that. You're gonna look at his dad. You're gonna look at his mom. We're likew they ain't too big. So XLM tal mom, tass you. Let's about the same height, maybe a little bit taller. She thinks she's taller. So you didn't marry You didn't marry a short person, don't That's what I'm saying. You didn't marry. Yes, yeah, somebody somebody got in trouble for calling Baker Mayfield. Yeah yeah, I

don't say that. They'll be on your back a shorter person. What is it, vertically challenged person? Just leave it at that. Certain things I don't fool with. Williams. I don't fool with they don't play. They'd be outside waiting on you, all right. The league an outs each team's strength the schedule. Cowboys have the third easiest in the league. In the easiest in the NFC. Their their opponents were combined for a point four or five nine winning percentage last season.

Does that even matter? Nope? You know why because every team is different every year. Nah, when you got that star on your helmet, everyone's gunning for you. So no matter what that record was last year, is that a thing? You hear that that everybody gets up for the Cowboys? Is that really a thing? National TV? People gonna thank you better than what you are. I like it. I

like it it to this. I got a chance to play for the University of North Carolina and basketball, and it didn't matter what gym we went into, whether it was Saint Mary's, Clemson, Florida State, Duke, Miami, everyone gave us their very best shot because you hear about the name and that you get held with the tigh esteem and on this pedestal about being the North Carolina tar Heels. So when you went and played Tulane or you know, or some schools Flora and you got that was their

super Bowl. So every time a team and I got a chance to play for the Dallas Cowboys, and then no matter where we were going or what our record was, teams wanted to lay the SmackDown on this floor whatever reason we beat them a hundred times before in the past, or they wanted to say still America's team. They wanted a chance to say that we put the SmackDown on quote unquote America. Look how Buffalo acted when they beat us. When Buffalo beat us, they were talking smack on us.

Because it matters to teams like the Patriots, the Cowboys, the Saints, when you're when you're held at that at least in the media, when you're held at that high standard and a high people still the cowboy't want the Super Bowl twenty four years, twenty five years, but people still compare their teams to the Cowboys. People still want to be the brand that the Cowboys are. So every time you get a chance to take a crack out

on they do. Yeah, same as what Notre Dame, the Yankees, the Lakers, even when they have down years, it's like, okay, we want to smack you at about forty all right, Well, Kurt's for being here, man Hairs, looking good, Jesse, good seeing you, man, Nate, thanks for bringing it Kyle, thanks for mixing it up back there, Caden, We'll stay away we will be back. Change what's up next Monday on

Hanging with the Boys. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
