Before listening, ask a doctor if your heart is healthy enough for Dallas Cowboys football. He's hanging with the Boys, broadcasting live from Dallas Cowboys World headquarters at the Star in Frisco. Now your host Nate Newton, Kurt Daniels, and Shannon Gross. Happy Thursday. What's up? What is up? Kurt doing good? Nate? Hey, we're bouncing off the walls up in him, but me and you are. I don't move like he's just doing good. I don't ever know about Kurt.
I'm great. Do you have cookie? I had a cookie? I wasn't bad. Which which flavor? Did you go in? A butter good? Which had a nice lunge? Thanks for stopping by. Sure, chocolate chip cookie for me. Did you getting cookies today? Nate? Man? It was out of the oatmeal that your go to oatmeal? Oh? Man, But I got my guy over there, Chris Dona. Chris Gross. I got him some macadamion and chocolate chip. Oh that was nice. Yeah, well, fellas Thursday, one step one day closer to game day, yes, sir,
even though they removed it. One step father. Out right Monday night in Arizona, players are out on the field wrapping up practice right right on the other side of that wall outside the studio. Some uh, some practice news. According to Dallas Cowboys dot Com, Break it to Us, Break it to Us, Orlando Scandrick back at practice. Looks like he's gonna probably play. Look good. Yeah, seeing walking around the star and no cast on his hand or anything.
Looks looks like he's ready to go. Cheeto was out there, but he was not participating in drills. He was on the side rehabbing with trainers. Nolan Carroll was absent from practice. Um, that leaves you with four healthy cornerbacks with Scandrick returning, So I'd leave you with Scandrick Brown, Jordan Lewis And how do you say in how do you how do you say his last name? Ben Ben Banet been wiki? Yeah, I don't know beany. I had to get with pr and figure out how to pronounce that. Um. Stephen Pye
was absent for practice. Wow, but I think he'd be rid. I think he's just gotten nursed at knee. Just just kind of ye slow playing that a little bit and a surprise appearance at practice. Anthony Hitchens back at practice. He wasn't participating in drills, but he was on the side and his helmet and his jersey. Uh, doing rehab, but less than a month after what looked like was a really ugly knee injury. That's very encouraging to hear
that he's he's back out there. He won't be on the participation report, but at least he's he's healthy enough to be out there walking around with some gear on. So, yeah, it sounded like his original timetable was a couple of months, but it sounds like he's ahead of that. Yeah, maybe hopefully, Yes, sir, hope, so hope. So so what are you fellas, how you feeling about this game? You feel any better about this
Arizona game? Now that we're getting a little later in the week, you're still kind of I don't know about their defense? What do you guys thinking? We think, Kurt, I'm liking it. I think we were going to discuss what are we discussing today? They're They're offense offense, Cowboys defense. Let's go. Let's go ahead and get into that. Well, let me say this before we start. Okay, why Kurt, why do I get to feel in that our guy here,
I lead, I don't here this beast. Why do you ask us how we feel about the game with me, and you have already told me. I think the guy who's already talking about some hanging out in Mexico to I think he's got to convince himself that things are going to be all right. I'm still a little gun shy after this week. I'm the one that's telling everybody everything's gonna be okay. And I'm just like you did pick him to lose my mind up, picked him to
split these two, and when it came true, he panicked. Yeah, I don't know, man, I just if they have another bad game, I don't want to come in here next week and have to talk about that for three days. Like I really really want them to win, just so well, you can feel good, So yeah, feel good, not be so you can I can feel good, and the rest of the Cowboys nation can feel good, Okay. I don't want to come in here and back to back losses and be one and two starting off the scene, because people,
the sky will legitimately be falling if that happens. I don't want that to happen. Nate, yea happen. You know. Carson Palmer had a bad first game against the Lions. You know, I didn't watch it, but just talking to Derek Johnson and a few others, he said he didn't
look too sharp. I thinking two two or three interceptions against the Lions and against the Colts the second half, man they had a few questionable penalties called the Coats did roughing, the passer pass interference, and it helped him get out the field there late in the game because they was down three to thirteen I think going into the third, into the second half, especially going into the fourth quarter, about ten minutes left, and then all of
a sudden, they get a fifty four thirty yards reception to JJ Nielsen, and all of a sudden it's a face mask to the quarterback, and so they got a roughing and then all the next thing, you know, they don't cut loose for a bomb and he his kids scores JJ Nelson I think forty five yards and it's seven to ten to thirteen, and then with minutes left they got a field goal off another penalty and they in field goal range and he you know, fourth and whatever, and they kicked the field goal and now all of
a sudden they're going the overtime and it's over. Just was over and I look at the at the Cardinals. Man, I don't know what to think. It's so early in the season. Uh. I know JJ Nelson is a good receiver, but he's kind of got nick there at the end of the game. He got a good running backs and Chris Johnson and Ellington, and I think they have a young guy curling someone. Uh. They're studded running backs out
for what twelve pers or something like that. He's he's thirty thirty five percent maybe forty percent of their offense. Everything is really really comes off of him. He's a great pass catch coming out of the backfield. He's a downhill monster running. Uh he blocks fairly well. Uh, but he's out, like you say, and so they so they got three other guys trying to fulfill that role, uh for him. And Chris Johnson got hot last week and he said he would stay with the hot hand the
head coach did, but he didn't. He didn't stay with Christy just let him run. Maybe he's on a pitch count, you know, of how, because they just brought him back. Uh. They wide receivers are nice. They got uh Fitzgerald, a couple of big tight ends. They they got a squad man and like I said, a year ago, they was put in a position to uh to really succeed offensively and they and they didn't do it. I don't know if Palmer was hurt most of them last year, but this year here he don't look as uh as good.
And the coach said after the first game, he literally said, word were uh, my guy cause of Parma. We threw it. We had a pass, a quick pass come out, but he got hit before he can get the pass out clean and U spooked him. And the head coach said this. You know, nobody else said is he said? And he didn't back up off of you know, our quarterback has to play well. Other five star guys they have to show up and make and make a dent so we
can lead these young guys. So they got a few young guys on their team as long as as well as some crusty old vets, you know, But the bulk of their guys is they're looking for this Jeron Brown, John Brown is out. They're looking for uh, the other kid, JJ Nelson. They're looking for these young guys to start replacing the FitzGeralds of the world, and our Fitzgerald is I think a lot more effective if Johnson was there, the big running back, he becomes a lot more effective
because this separation. He never was a great separation guy, but body control jumping in there, he's like like Das was a year or so ago. You know, great body control. He beat you with his size as well as his great route running. But now he's a little bit older, he's lost the step which he's never had. And uh with with Johnson out, do you do you see them going to the passing game or do you think they'll
open it up? But they always was a passing team up until last year when Johnson hit the scene and then they kind of altered their offense to be built around him and which he catches a lot of passes out of the backfield, but he's a bruiser and you always have to respect that, so not a play action pass becomes big. They they they are built to throw deep. The Cardinals. They Palmer comes up or whoever that quarterback, and they see a certain matchup, they don't care what
the player is. They're taking you deep. And they used to be real efficient two or three years ago, where if Palmer looked at it on my own none, we got this ain't going deep. And nine times out of ten, John Brown, h Fitzgerald or whoever else was at that why they will come down with the ball. They they would literally come down with the ball seven percent of the time. And next thing you know, you're looking at
a third and two. All of a sudden they in the red zone on you, bro, Yeah, and you and you have to think at some point, you know, like Nate said, it is really early in the season, but Carson Palmer's not I wouldn't say he's in He's definitely not an elite quarterback, but he's definitely in the top ten or twelve guys, you know, ten, twelve, fifteen guys in the league. Kind of think that he's got to
get it together eventually and start clicking. You just kind of hope it's not this game that he gets it well. With Johnson, they're definitely passing even more so, Yeah, they're fifth in the league right now and pass attempts and they're seventh in yards passing yards. But overall, he's he's struggling. Only complete and fifty four percent of his passes and his passer rating sixty five, which is awful. So two touchdowns, four interceptions. Um, they're leaning on him heavy. Yeah, and
he threw into bad coverage this game. I mean, I think they were on the fifty and he threw a bomb to one of the guys and a rookie safety for the Colts baited him, you know, and he threw it into that deep double coverage and bow he came up with an interception and it was a bad pass. Even coming down to stretch with two or three minutes left, he threw into just a bad coverage. I mean, he's it's like he's not seeing the field like he once did.
He's he's not seeing the field now. He had three interceptions in that first game, yes, I mean and then one this vast pass game, and they putting pressure on him now. They and I'm not talking about the Colts other Lions. I'm there's staff like, hey man, you're better than this. We need for you to play. You talked, yeah, said his coach said he was scared. He might he might be scared. He was sacked four times. Yeah, Colts got nine quarterback hits on him in addition to that. So, yeah,
he's not comfortable back there. It doesn't seem like you know, the Lions got out there him pretty good too, so we will will we'll see. You know, I don't know what's John Brown deal, but he didn't play last game, so he's out. I don't know how what his injury is. We know Johnson's out, but the other guys are there. I mean, this Jeron Brown, I'm trying to figure out who he is. I probably need to go back and look at the Lions game because all I've been looking
at over and over is the Colts game. So that's that'd be one of the things when broughd Us come in tomorrow, we will have Brian brought us right, Yeah, brought us is gonna lead off the show tomorrow at uh yeah, one third for the first segment. Yeah, so we'll have a scout's point of view of of and one of the questions, if you can remember this, if one of the questions you should ask Brian tomorrow is we have heard that the blueprint for the Cowboys have
been set up and put in place by Denver Defense. Okay, but guess what does does Arizona have that type of personnel. It's one thing to talk about it, it's another thing to do it. Arian said, we don't have Denver's players. He's already met. But that's you know what. And he went right and told his players in the first meeting he had. He either said I'm gonna go say something. I don't pay attention that it's set up or either at he said that right there, he like, I was
just being nice. We're gonna knock these these heads, so don't don't Jimmy played that card before two. Oh, they this, and they that, and then we come in. We got the game playing that busted, you know, So don't believe that because they may not be as tall and as stout as Denver, but they they they they're athletic with Channeler Jones, they had other kid Golden So now I ain't going for they had all crafted Vet and Dansby and uh, you know they got corners who they they corners.
You can't tell them they didn't equal to Denver. You can't tell they safety with but there that he ain't equal to the other kids. For so we may, but will brought us to be able to tell us, you know, does uh? Because they've struggled against the Lions, they've struggled against the Colts, had a Brissette was a rookie, I mean not a rookie, but a second year guy, and he is on the been. He's on them there for six days. So but I refused to believe that the
Cardinals are not a good team. I ain't saying they're a great team, but I think they're a good, solid team that's trying to find their way. And uh, like I say, second half going into the fourth quarter, cars some palmer. He made one bad throw that I saw, but he was starting to get on target. He was starting to get on target. So you had mentioned the two Browns. Drawn Brown hurt his ac hill. He's definitely out. John Brown looks like he's not gonna play either. He's okay. Quad, Well,
they're hurting the right receiver. If you kind of bracket Fitzgerald, he might be able to handle the rest of Yeah. And on Cowboys on defense, Nate, what what should be their game plan? Knowing that they don't have much in the running game and knowing that they're gonna have to sling it around? What what kind of looks? And you know they got the young guys in the secondary. You know you've been you've been preaching at the all last week. Let him play what they gotta just turn loose that front.
That front end got to get there. And we don't like the blitz, but a five man rush wan't hurt. Just to see where palm at you see, I mean you got to check the dudes whole card. If he if he has a tendency to get rid of it, we are to throwing the bad coverage. You know. I ain't saying mix up the coverage back there so our young guys or be confused themselves. That's the worst thing. We need to confuse them. But if we get if we can put some pressure on Palmer earlier and make
him and rattling, let's do it. Let's do what I mean because and then we have to stop the run. Chris Brown, Chris Johnson, excuse me. It's more than capable of running the ball. He showed that last week. He's more than capable of running the ball. If it's a whole there, he will get in it, you know. And he has a feel for the running game. So we cannot sit up and uh and say, Okay, we're gonna bounce back without the right preparation and the right attitude.
I mean, you you have to know that Arizona want to be two and one at home. They want to be uh just a first game at home, a second game. This is their first the first play, first two on the road. Yeah, so they want to they want to make sure they they look good. It's time to shine, Man and the Cowboys on the rows two weeks in a row. So here we go. Yeah, that's the first game. Yeah, so you don't think they want to shine. That place is gonna be loud. Yeah, on a Monday night in Arizona.
That's an interesting and it's the Cowboys. Yep, that's the extra umph right now. Yes, sir, let's take our fight laughing. It's always extra for the Cowboys. Yeah. Speaking of umph, let's um falling out of here all right for this first break Pace and Bills. When we come back, we're gonna pick the minds or the noses of Kurt Daniels and Nate Newton. What the Cowboys need to do. What if the Cowboys do this, they win the game. And if the Cardinals do this, they win the game. Hanging

Names trying to get this chat a fit? What right? Man? So wow, that's that's messed up, that's all. I felt somebody staring at me, and I looked over there and the beard was staring me down, like, don't Nate know what my man is
going through? A spill on Tommy John's church talking about underwear. Nates over here looking under the table. I was like, what's going on over there? Don't start that, please, y'all know. Let me get my mother a chair. But wow, wow, oh man, let's play a little play a couple of games today. We got over under We're gonna do probably in the last segment, but I want to play a little,
a little buy and sell. I'm gonna throw out a player or a position, group or something, and you guys tell me where whether you're buying it or whether you're getting it as far away from you as possible and selling it. Okay, all right, the whole thing, what depends on what it is. I might do a specific player, I might do, might do just a group or something, right, awesome, alrighty, all right, let's go. Let's go with defensive line. You buying this defensive line or you selling it? Pretty good?
Showing the first two weeks tank looks really solid. But as a whole, what are you doing Kurt as a whole. Well, I don't want to sell at all, but I would like to buy a few pieces, if that's possible. What pieces you looking to buy? Oh, I'd like to get a somebody on the right defensive end and provide a little more pressure. And I think you know, Lawrence is obviously off to a great start, and I think Malik
Collins is the real deal. If PA or pay whatever you yeah, I can you know, battle through that knee. I think he can do some work in there too. So you're still like another big dog on the right. But overall, you know you're buying, but you want the option to have some interchangeable parts. Definitely. Okay, what about you, Nate buying? Are selling this defensive line right now? I got it and buying it? Sticking with it? Yeah, sticking with it man, like the way they played the first
two games. Yeah, and I just stopped to run. I'll be okay. I mean you asked me that next week after this game, then you have more definitely ask right now. I'm sticking with him. There. They're mind sidetracker. I mean they're offensive line and the Cardinals offensive line and then good is It's okay? It's okay for what they do. It's it's okay. That's where Johnson makes them much better in which you will probably see here. It's just this is this right here. We know that our secondary is
young and inexperience. We have a Skendrick back who's a better defender. That helps Brown, that helps uh Jordan Lewis, that helps uh Woods. So you know it should make Jones a little bit more confident and better. So that could free him up to just handle his duties of just making calls on that back end. And Jeff Heath, so we should be all right. And then we got our Cabon Frasier probably be active this week too, high should be Yeah, yeah, what about this? Uh? What about
this safety position? Kind of a rough game that well, I guess we could say that about everybody except special teams. Kind of a rough rough game last week. It's only two games in. But you know you got the new combo of Byron Jones with Jeff Heath back there, Kurt, you buying or selling? I'm not ready to give up on him. I think I still have. I think Jones is athletic enough to play it back there, and Heath has proven in a you know, as a as a backup that he's he can do it. Let's let's hope
he can keep it up as a starter here. But you Nate, I'm save the position. I'm keeping it like it is right now. You know, one game, one or two games, you can't really tell, you know this game in the next. By the fourth game, you'll know he's like, Okay, Heath is settling in and he is who he is. He gonna do what he do, but I'm looking for buying him up. He gotta leap, he gotta make he gotta be better, you know, Heath, this is his first true time and saying, hey, I'm the man, let me relax.
Ain't gotta be just coming here in spot play. So I gotta I gotta give him an opportunity to show me who he is and what he can and can't do. But Byron, I'm looking for him. I'm looking for more, I you know, and maybe there he's doing what they're asking him to do, but I'm looking for more. It's got to be more there. Yeah, he had a that's I'm glad you brought that up. He had a pretty solid rookie year. They moved him around a lot. He didn't really get to settle into one pace position. Last
year he had, you know, decent year. Has he has he gotten better? Is he regretted? And that's what I'm trying to see, see because in the world that I live in, staying the same as like regressing. Ah, well, he's dependable. Yeah, if I'm working nine to five, you know, at the steel mill and I'm dependable, that's great. But nine you know, but you're working for the cowboys and being dependable. Okay, he definitely improved last year. But you're right, we gotta he's gotta create t Yeah, I want to
see something different, man, I really do you know? I really do you know? You know by the fact what saved him last week and it really didn't save save him. He didn't tackle well. But nobody tackle well, come up and h punch of dude backwards a couple of times, you know, tackling dude and knock him backwards a couple of times. You know, bat down the ball at a very very key time. You know a lot of people can tackle, but can you tackle at the right time
like last week? And I give you example, it's three minutes, Well, for two minutes wealth all I say, you see challenge Jones for the Cardinals coming in. Get a sack at the right time, not just a sack at the beginning of the game. Better still, to the Marcus Lawrence, we needed a coming out of the weather delay. We needed a punch. He gave us the punch. Now we didn't take advantage of it, but he gave us the punch,
not once, but twice. Make a play when it make a play when they everybody when the spotlights on your baby, when you know when the lights are going and it's a world from mirror and everybody got the lights going and the sky lit up, and all of a sudden, you see this beautiful lady just walk out of there. Oh god, you know what I'm saying. Wow, that's Beyonce. You know what's what we had Don marrith Son on what was the lady's name? That bubbles can bubbles dash
coming coming down like an angel. Yeah, you got to have you. And that's when you got to when when when you can put it, when you can put a team on your back. You know, you're so confident in what you're doing and your anticipation is so great, and you're like man I can make this play and know it's gonna be there and know you're gonna turn the game around. And that's what the Lawrence tried to do. But we know we had nobody to come with him. He's just dancing by myself. Is that a matter of okay?
He just he's gonna pick his spot to just turn it up even another notch or does he gotta move he knows it's gonna work, He's gonna say. Long ago, talking with Bob Lilly, he recalled a game where he knew there was this one move, he had it and he was gonna be able to beat this guy. But he only could do it once because after that the guy would He knew it expect so you know, he had to wait and he had to pick his spot and until he chose there was that money at crucial moment.
That's when do you guys have that? Does that? That just take a special player? Man? See, And that's why I tell people everybody in elite. Mister Lily was elite. He had not only the physical skills because he used to run a quarter mile in college and I don't have the physical skills. I think he used to running quarter mile at TCU. But he had the mental the
mental skills to take it to a new level. And that's why he's saying, okay, now it's the time, whether it was a pass or running, like, okay, we need to play can I can I make it happen? Sometimes the football guards let it happen that way because I'm serious. Challeng Jones rushed his dude, and I watched the man. He uh he started off the ball slow, almost walked off the ball, and he rushed into him. Dude, put his hands on him in place. He's just right, the
Challeng Jones double jerk. He threw and just threw it and you started to do hands to go away. All of a sudden he just fallward hit the quarterback. Wow. I'm like, wow, you know at the right time, man, And he caused the fumbling. He was cussing his teammates and like, I caused this from a used up yall. You know what I'm saying. So does a guy like Byron need to Is it a matter of setting up the setting up the quarterback somehow or the reciman Well, you know, just play And a lot of times that's
what Challenge Jones does. That's what Tank Lawrence doing that. You know, they just play, but they can. But when the player is there and they see it, it's over, you know, like you I think they can first sack. I think he was setting up a game the way it looked. But when he looked up and said, oh my god, I'm going to get this rock. I'm going to get this quarterback. You know, he just kept right
on going. You know. Uh. And when you have the athletic ability and you play within the defense, you know, I think Byron it keeps saying he has the athletic ability. He should know, you know, like I hear Wood and we gotta get Darren Woodson in here. You know, yeah, well we're gonna get it. Wood he in here. Wood he knew the route tree versus the coverages. You know, He's like, Okay, we're in this coverage right here. This is what can hurt us, and this is what and
this is where we got the strength. And if they if they run into the strength, what he waiting on the play, He's either gonna be a knockout or bat down our interception. You know, it's like, oh my god, they give me three options. Have this three? The minute mentioned him, I'm gonna cut them long, deep and continuously. You know what I'm saying. While we're on the defense. What have you seen? He hadn't heard his name a
lot taco? Yeah, Charles. How when a rookie comes in, you know, the defensive line guy or whatever, how long you we should start hearing from this week? This week? Okay, we should start hearing from because he's he's had two games, but he can just run up feeling be nobody. Now we need for him to stop bending in the corner. So I needed for him to put his hands in there. We started, we started under thanking, awe of being awe of playing against these guys. Now you know that you're
a man just like they are. It's time to come up out of that grind and do what you gotta do. Now he may not get a sack, but he should start, you know, rushing the quarterback a little bit, getting him a few hits, you know, and feeling it, you know, because you don't play enough STAPs snaps not to be that person. What what do you the first when you're a rookie like that? What are the first couple of games like or is it just you get just trying to feel your way. You're just trying to feel your way.
It's rare that you see a rookie defensive linement just coming and just take take a game to a new level. When you do see that, you got something special. Yeah, you know, mister Charles and I you know, it's just like to me with Jalen. You know, uh, it went from we won the first week and you know Jayalen is Jaalen that and I'm saying, okay, all right now, nobody mentioned Jalen the whole game. You know, he led the team in tackles. Yeah, we're at five yards down
to field, you know. So you know, I tell people, try to explain this just a grown man game. This ain't fantasy football. You got to you got to come with it. And he will get better, like missus Charleson will get better and Jalen will get better, much better, much better. To you start seeing him make tackles, Jayalen start making tackles off two yard games or three yard games,
you know what I'm saying. And it just takes time. See, my expectations are different, but I do not I'd rather see Jalen play now and know that in the six or seventh game, we may see a different Jayalen. I'd rather see Charleton play now. In game eight or nine, we may see a different Charles. I want to see these young assets we got in the back end play now, so we may see a different guy, or at least we would know, like who he can't play? All right,
It's like, hey, he gets better every game. He's getting closer, his coverage is getting tighter, his moves a getting smoother, he's reading routes better, he's opening his hips better. And the only way you can do that is play, you know. And people said, well we gotta chance being the super Bowl. You don't know that out of the two games. You don't know what you got a chance to be at.
How would you handle the secondary with Orlando coming back this week when Orlando would be the starter, Anthony Brown would be the other starter, and then these guys come in, as in Nickel and Dimes situations dictate, but play fast, play with your feet up under you. That pivot route, just the pivot route, and what I'm okay, I'm pivot route, whether it was in route okay, c j Anson ran
a pivot route, a reverse pivot route. That route is where you run ten or fifteen yards and you go, you go, and I'll give you a better pitch, like a slant running five yards turn in, but it's kind of more of a ben instead of instead of just quick slanting in, it's kind of like a ben. All these guys ran that pivot route. They're running by ten yards like they're going into a slant. Then they'll turn and go back out. They got us all day on that.
Or they will run it out and bend it back in. Pivot, just a simple what troll was called a simple pivot route, a simple reverse route. And we were falling all over our feet. We were falling on the ground, falling on the We shouldn't have been doing it after the first one. Yeah, you know what do the Cowboys need to do? If the Cowboys do this, they win the game on Monday Night. I'll start us off. I think they get back to
who they are. Don't let the Cardinals take them out of their game plan on offense, establish the run, control the ball. If Zeke gets one hundred over one hundred yards, I think they win this game. I'm gonna say that's that's what the Cowboys need to do, is control the ball, keep the defense off the field, get Zeke involved early often, and get him one hundred yards. And I think you're golden. What about you, Kurt? That was their key to success last year? So key to what key to su Oh?
I thought you said some sex, that's your key to wow well. And conversely, you know you need to stop their running game, like Nate said earlier. I mean that's that's a part of the key two. You want to make them one to Mitch a quick as possible. Yeah, and now and now the passing game is there their better aspect of their offense. But still, if you can take away their run that that does make them one mentional hopefully get after them. What about you, Nate? What
the Cowboys do? What they win the game on money Night? Besides score more points, just make sure that our defense play sound. If our defense, like Kurt said, stopped to run and play sound pass defense, that mean even if they catch the balls, tackle them right there. That's where we were very good at last year. When we lost games, we tackled bad. When we won games, we stopped to run a slow to run down enough so that we tackle. We never missed tackles. We never missed tackles. If we
tackle well, we see we get off with three. If we don't tackle well, it's seven, it's seven. I believe that our offense is good enough to score significant enough points to win, but we can't slip on defense. You cannot. And this is what a surprised me last year, and my hats off to these guys last year, is they
did not miss tackles. They knew where to be. A lot of times I thought, I thought we didn't know what the coverage was, understood where to be and how to play them, and it hurt us, and we tackled poorly. And when our big dog, Sean Lee, and it started with him, and two people that can't miss tackles is your will linebacker and your safety in the hole. And they both didn't tackle well. As Jones and as Sean Lee.
These two people can't miss tackles. Is it a matter of missing them or bad positioning In this case, Curtis both there was in bad positions and in miss tackles, and they was in great positions. Sometimes they tried to tackle instead of bringing the leather, you know, and making sure these people off their feet. You know, a lot of times there's reaching that's half a Jalen's problem is he's just that step a little slower, so he reaching out And now you may have slung folks down at
nor the Dame versus on Boston College. Gene's slinging it down up and then you know what I'm saying, Kurt, Yes, the Cardinals win Monday night. If they do what well, it'd be the same game plan as what Denver did. You know, shut down the run and make them one dimensional, and they've got the cornerbacks and in the pass rusher to make your life tough. If if you can't get
the running game going, Nate Cardinals winning. If causing Palmer come out, come out hot, that's the worst thing in the world you want causing Palmer when he's hot and on fire and he's got uh Nelson and you say the other kid is out. Jeron Brown is out, John Brown is out. But if Fitzgerald jj Nelson Britney Garden number ten, he's fast as lightning. If them guys catching on fire man, if they catching the ball, you know, and I don't know why Gristia Madden this deal because
he was hurt last week too. I don't know what's wrong with him? But if I'm telling you, is he good when he's who that? Oh yeah, big tight end block. Well catch the ball about of Oklahoma? Oh yeah. Uh. If these guys are playing, you know, and Chad Williams, they rookie, if he's gonna have to come up and play this week. But if Carson's on, it could be a terrible night. I'm telling you he when he's when he's choking it right, that means because he's staring it deep.
I mean he's connecting deep. Uh. They have a built then system. And you heard me said earlier with they look out there and there's one on one. You bet, out of a sudden, you're looking at the red zone. Play baby, balls out, balls out, balls out. Had a ribbon drink Sunday, but they haven't updated it. First they are banged up. Man, what what point of the season the Cowboys have already had? They had one pretty good game,
they had one just awful game. So the first game we were, hey, let's see what this team's all about there? Yeah man, yeah, it's like let's see what we got. So we fired up about the first game. It's like, okay, we beat the Giants, finally with Dak at the helm, it's uh so we and I just got totally distracted. Taylor's walking back. Hey, um, they beat the Giants. Finally, here we go, Here we go, Here we go. Let's go into Denver. It's gonna be a tight game. Total
s show. You started confirming your hotels. Yeah again, So it's like you start calling the duel vice first name, like you know him on the personally, but you really don't know what you have. So you're going into this game going, Okay, let's see what this team is all about. If it's if if they go in there and take care of business, you're like, okay, they're back on track.
If they lose, the sky's falling, the world's coming to an end, then over, No, it ain't because you have Scandrick and a bunch of guys that we don't know. You have Skandrick and Brown and Jones. You got to start and safety, you got two starting corners. You don't know who your nickel and dimes and how well they're gonna play, and you don't know what Heath gonna do on a day to day basis. We'll know it's just two more games. At what point in the season doing
the fifth game. By the fifth game, you should know where the coaches definitely know by now where it's sitting and who they are, just depending on what's who's health and who's not. We're just as fans and know by the fifth game what you see, it's kind of what you're gonna get for the next two or three games. You know, it's always an outlier somewhere in there, but you know who you are. The Cowboys are fortunate enough they know, okay, we still have a good running game.
You know, now, how fucking Chad's Green come along? We know that, we know for a fact that you're right tackle college. He's a battler. This this kid. This kid has played from from from from the league all the way to the best pass rush in the game this Soto v v. Von Miller. So we know this kid is a battler. He gonna give you all he got. Now, you got to find out as an officsive coordinator, how we what we did wrong with our office? None because
we didn't help the offensive line. Our offensive line is one of the most athletics we've had since the Landry era. You know when it because the Landry era used to run screens draws, uh, bubble screens before there was even inventedge sweeps our offensive line can do at all? Did we do ourselves with disservice by not using that using that more often than the first half? Because in the first half is where we should have ran a little bit more in the second half. I don't care what
you say that it was over. Yeah, is it you say about week five? They should know, yeah, this is what we got it, this is what we got and then and everybody should be health and a body should be acclimated to the speed of the game. Is it easier for coaches about week five once they figure out, Okay, this is what we have, this is what we're capable of. Is it easier for them to game plan once you get a few games in, because yeah, because you know scheme we do. Okay, you're no different than the coach
Jordan Lewis. Tell me, body, he's young. Okay, he plays cornerback. That's about all I got telling me about heath right, But we can tell you that Jones is very athletic, he's smart, he's been playing that safety for He should play better, he should tackle better, he should be able to get back deep deep, deep on on the routes better. He should be able to read the route tree better. We don't know what Woods is. We know he can come up and tackle from the preseason, but this is
a different speed. You know. We saw him do a bobblehead move in the end zone on special teams. We were another expected that for Woods. Yeah, but he did that because you know a lot of these young guys. You know, hey man, it's just football. Really, if it's just football, you should know you should You should have established yourself back on the playing field before you did what you did. So these guys got to learn and they got to pick up the speed of the game.
Because Fitzgerald, in declining years, is still better than any receiver you faced in college. And he's declining. You can't at this point. None of them guys can stick, dads, but as he tops ten, top six. No, it's receivers out there we like better than das. But for what dance, dude, you cannot even stop them. So as a young guy, you gotta learn how to play beat the guys that you practice against first, and once you get that confidence, then you're making deal with what you find to face
on Sunday. Let's take one more break, pay some bills. You like that cursed Wow. It's a progression, baby, it's a process, the process. Let's trust the process and go to break. Back to hang in with the boys. We're back. Final segment of Thursday from The Star. Kurt Daniels, Nate Newton, Shannon Gross. Are you hungry, Kurt? I'm always hungry for some Papa John's pizza. Tell me about it. Bring the meat. Whoa, I thought this was
Papa John's, not Tommy John. Stop. Oh that was so obvious. The drop didn't need to be played there. Thank you, Douglas. We know why Papa John's pizza tastes so great. It's the ingredients. Like the veggies, so they say, delivered freshole, never frozen in there, never frozen, one hundred percent pork and beef custom We like that, made for us and made to USDA standards, with no fillers, better ingredients, better pizza, Papa John. Papa Kurt's minds always in the gutter. That's
why you got eight. I say these things and you take it in totally different directions. How am I supposed to take that? You know what? You know what's so funny? Uh, sir Sir Douglas and Kurt and I'm not talking to you Beard. Why is it that every time Kurt is doing a great job on something something, the Beard takes it and twisted. Now I was you're married, right, sir, I'm married, and Sir Douglas is married. Yes, respect the table with because our wives and kids could be listening
to you. Beard. Okay, his name is Shannon Gross. And you know we got a guy that's uh Chris Gross that works for for Douglas, right, and he's his Twitter handle is Curtis Gross. That's his man, Shannon is Gross. Okay. I grew up. I grew up here in that. Yeah. Wow, I mean every I'm glad. I'll read anything. I would be in trouble firing. Yeah, it would be firing me because of shouting and grows. I'm just trying to poke Kurt with a stick, ye too. Yesterday yelled at me
because saying Jack black wrong. Yeah, but I was saying it right. You say it, said black jack. I was saying Jack black, Jack black, and then you said that's wrong. Now I think I think you were talking about Tommy John's and you said Jack black. Yeah, is what happened? Oh yeah, you guys, there's nothing wrong with the way you first what you're talking about. You say Jack black perfect. Okay, Oh yeah, I got an update on that. We're definitely
getting some product. Yeah, what do you mean? Now, what's what's next? Cookie dealt? I don't know, but I'm letting everybody in sponsorship know, Hey, we will sell out. We will talk about your product for half the show to get some free gear, some swag. All right, let's play a little over under, let's get let's continue the game. Okay, gotta got a few. Uh, let's see what we got. Got five this week over under Dak Prescott interceptions one over under, Kurt under for me under right now under?
Oh wow, can't push it? Huh, I push it. It doesn't count. And I guess I'll go under under that. That's hard to say, brother, I mean over under one man throw none er two. It's just Dak though, I mean he doesn't throw me any right. Well, he threw two last week. Well I'm gonna go under. I'm gonna go under. I don't think he's doing that. Two weeks in a row. He's hit his bag limit for a while. Oh man, that's the beard is weird. De law sacks over under one, Nate, He's gonna he's gonna get one
sack one sack. I know under, I guess because see you ain't giving us an old space to work. That's the way it works. I'm making a good number, and then you gotta you gotta, I gotta make you go one way or the other. He's picked. You're a brother's hand picking statistics that nobody gets that many of in any right, I'll go over hopefully if you go to one and a hand, be sweet. Yeah, man, one and a half, that'll be sweet. I'm gonna go over too, just because i'd like to see him start the first
three games with six sacks. Why did you see the game? They reversed in game and had one and a half. Oh yeah, I heard about the other hand. How does that work? Do you know how that works? Is that something that does the league review all the plays? Yeah,
they kind of review it. Yeah, and I think a team too can submit, right, Oh yeah, the team submits, like if they think a guy is it Like they probably thought Colin's deserved or you know, deserved half of sacks, so they can they admit it to the league because they took you half of it away from d Law and gave it. Yeah, like, well I got him at too, so they can do what they want. Jayson Whitton off to a hell of a start this year. Looks like it looks Oh does he looks? And how about check
his targets? What's that person? Yeah? Look that up, that'd be an interesting personage. Wow. Man, he hit his computer bus wake up and he warned family promises, warning, warning dangerous. What wasn't that was that, Douglas? That was my sound effect for when you asked Kurt to look something up? Okay, wow, you heard you heard us all in turn that down a little bit. Wow. Way to go, sir, Douglas. Jason Witton yards sixty yards receiving, Nate over or under, hay
Man under under. I'm gonna go because I'm saying when I say mean, what I mean by that is that mean Colby's they're gonna show up this week. Okay, I'm gonna go over sixty Yeah, oh Coolebe's they're gonna have on the badger on him. I'm going over as you're gonna be on him. All right, all three of us are going over. I think Dax found a groove with him early this year and he's comfortable with him, so
I'm gonna go over as well. Deaz over under seventy five receiving yards, Kurt, oh, man, over, is this gonna be? Is this gonna be his? His welcome, his welcome to two thoy seventeen games. I don't know Peterson on him. I'm going over because he needs he needs the confidence he needs to know that he can do it. You know, I forget Peterson, and I just sometimes you just gotta you know, you forced it to him, though, Pull your
Tommy John's up and pack your lunch. Yeah box out there, he goes, I mean, and I and I respect Peterson a whole lot because you know he's he's he's the one two or two one, however you want to look at it, you know, with him in Sharn. But Dad's needs that game. Man. If he ever get that game against one of these top cheer guys, he's off and running. Kurt, what you think seventy five five receiving yards? Curt says this serious man. Yeah, man, I guess I'm taking slightly
over over. We should have put seventy six. Should have we should have like bet lunch on the end of the year. Results am Louise every time because I'm be favoring the Cowboys and most so we went U Nate over Kurt over, I really hope it's over, but I'm gonna go wonder. But you can't never leave at the quarterback yardage. You gotta always have that. So you gotta put that on the quarterbacks yardiste. Yeah, you gotta always have that number. Yeah, you gotta always have some type
of number you're head for the quarterbacks yardist. Let me do this last one and then we'll do the quarterback yards. Zeke over or under one hundred yards rushing. I need him to be over every time unneath for him to be over and see, this is the thing about it, Kurt, is, while you thinking about what you're gonna do. Zeke is the type of Zeke is the type of back that if he rushed for eighty yards, we still can win
the game. When he rushed for eighty yards and around twenty carriers, that's all we need because he's always explosive. He always gonna have a play where he will rush for fifteen or twenty yards and it'd be very exciting, and then it hurts the defense. So when he don't get a hundred yards, that do not phase me. But when he get less than seventy five, that does phase. When he's between seventy five and a hundred, and he's got a few passes coming out of backfield. Yeah, I'm
good with him. Then what about when he gets under ten? Wow? Wow, man, I'm on my way to Mexico. I'll take the hundred yards hundred yards rushing over. Sure, it's time. I'm gonna go over as well, because I think I think this offensive line is gonna play nasty. They had a bad game there. They let their little buddy in the backfield down.
I think they're just I think they're gonna stomp stomped up outside that all right, last one, dak over under two hundred and sixty passing yards, Kurt, I'll go slightly under under. Kurt's gonna go under. What you got, Nate, I'm going over. Nate's going over because I think I think if we can get one or two turnovers, it had changed this team in the way it thinks. Now Denver, they got two turnovers, but they they got them at the right time, and they capitalized off one of them.
I think the other one we got a leverage is ard us. Yeah. Uh, but if we can capitalize off one or two turnovers, I don't care how we get it, whether it's a special team turnover, our defense get a turnover. We can get one or two turnovers. That's you can hurt. You can hurt this team. This team got fortunately last week is in playing the Colts. You know, Tyron matthis got a big play, Honey Batch, you got a big play their interception against a young quarterback per set. But
we can keep out. We can keep no turnovers and a solid defense, and our run game is effective. I think going down to stretch, we can win the close game. Whereas the Colts couldn't we I think we could. Yeah, I agree with you there. I'm gonna go Dak passing yards to sixty. I'm gonna go with Kurt. I'm gonna go slightly under just because I think they're gonna seven.
I think that they're gonna try to run Zeke hopefully he has one hundred plus yards and Dak does not have to throw the ball that often because they're playing from ahead and not What was Kurt supposed to look up? Um Witten's uh targets targets? Did you find target targets? Uh? He has twenty two targets seventeen catches, which does lead the league that's a seventy seven percent catch rate, got him. Yeah, Yeah,
he's been such a self up, Sir Douglas. He always such a self up, always trying to be a part of the show. Yeah, that's all right, Douglas. We still love you, We still love you. Yes, tomorrow, Brian Brought Us is gonna come in here. He is. He is volunteered his time for the rest of the season on this show on Fridays. The first segment, we're all gonna have a position or a a matchup that we kind of want to dive into. And that brought Us. You know,
he watches a scouting film. Um, we're all gonna throw one one question at him and let him break it down and tell us what he's seeing on the tape. That ought to be fun. Um, And we're also going to take it's fand Friday, So you guys tune in listen to Brought Us if you have any questions about what he says. He'll be on the first fifteen minutes and he's gonna get out of here and let us
talk about what he what he breaks down. Yeah, man did man him would be back Monday at one me and brought Us one where are you gonna be at one to right? The road is what it's called the road? Y'all gonna be on the road? Are we gonna be? And brought us? We see we're gonna find a way to get that extra money out of that Noon Central, Noon to one, Noon to one Central? And what is that like a breakdown of the game. Is that what we're gonna be on at noon? Now we're coming on
at noon. That's what I was told noon to one. Okay, it's pre to the pre game. I would say, okay, free from the studios, the studio here and yeah, live man, that'd be nice. I wish I could watch that. Let men try to watch it from the stadium. Wow. Real n So he told me at one, So he's noon. That's even sweet to Well if it's maybe one, we'll double check. Oh, Doug, let's get it together now. Derek told me noon, but brought us. If he wants to move it to one, I mean that's we can do
that too. I like noon too. Okay, we'll be back tomorrow at one thirty on the same channel wherever you consume this wonderful show. Kurt, thanks for showing up again. Hey, thanks for bringing it. Yes, Douglas, thanks for injecting yourself into the show. Marmy and Daddy, I have trouble but Kent. Thanks for pushing all the buttons hanging with the boys. We'll be back at you tomorrow.
