The following is a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club. Flowing out of the backfield, flowing down the sidelines. He's Hanging with the Boys, broadcasting live from Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters at the Star in Frisco. Now your host, Nate Newton, Kurt Daniels, and Shannon gross Fry And Nate. First off, I got cookies. Yeah, this dude with him man been bombing the cookies like you

want one. No, Man, but I just can't believe. I ain't never seen you go after those cookies like that. Training can't ruin me. I told you, it's like I broke myself off the cookies and training and he just picked him up. You knew level, cookie Man, Let me something right. You can love them you bad? You know what. I am super excited. Do you know why? Because both of those teams last night that we had to play this season, one of them twice, it looked like trash, trash,

dumpster fires. No, it's just the beginning. Preseason has officially started around the league and that and that's what it's all about. But first of all, Triple eight eight five five twenty two ninety seven, eight, eight, eight five twenty two ninety seven total free call in line. Please call because we would like to hear from you today. It's fan Friday. We're gonna have brought us on the show a little bit later on. We talked to Tyrn Smith yesterday.

Hopefully we had some technical issues, but hopefully we have that ready for you later on in the show. But let's talk about that game a little bit last night. It was sloppy. We talked about this at lunch. You got your toy back, by the way, you won't We won't have to worry about that. We won't have to worry about it. We're gonna run that ball about forty five times. We ain't gotta worry about that. Date's got a little zeke Backe throwing up policide to you, bro,

what's up? Turned my bow out to see my boy man. Forget that. Yeah, they don't let you like I do home. Oh oh, I here, Douglas, Well, I can't even ask yes because you're allergic to chicken me and they had an argument we in the lunch room today, a great discussion. I've been craving for about two weeks. Our wonderful sponsor raising canes they have. They have a location at the Star about half a block away, and every once in a while, I just we have great chicken tenders that

they serve here at the Star. Yes, we get free lunch and free breakfast, thank you, mister Jones. But every once in a while I venture out and crave something else because it gets old eating the same thing day in and day out here. So I've been craving Canes for a couple of weeks and Nate calls me and he's like, hey, you know how you doing. Checking in what's going on that I'm eating lunch. He's like, okay, I'll see you about ten to fifteen minutes. I was at Canes and then so I walk into the lunch

room and he staying in line. He's like, July to me, you said you were at lunch. I said, yeah, I went to Caynes and he had a fit and he was he was trying to tell me that the twelve dollars I spent at Canes because I got, of course a fat kid I got. I got the six strip box instead of just the three. I spent twelve dollars and Nate told me I was crazy, and I'd lost my mind for spending twelve dollars on some raising canes chicken when I could eat in here for free every day.

And I was telling him every once in a while, I just need to mix it up. What I was saying was simply this, you went and spent twelve dollars. I'm not saying that canes ain't good. It's when I'm not here on the weekend, Saturday, I will go to Keynes on a Friday night. I will go to Keynes sometimes even doing on Sunday when I'm just you know, coming from church and men and the wife don't she don't feel like cooking. We'll hid in the canes. You understand,

got great tea, nice fries. It's been when you dip it into the songs. I will build canes up all day and the toast. But here at the rant, I mean not the rant at the Star over near the Ford Center, they are not twelve dollars better than what the cowboys a cook here. They are not twelve dollars better, Okay, And that's all I'm saying. Everyone. And look here eight

eight five five twenty two ninety seven. And I know y'all gonna grow with me, because if y'all get a free pass to coming in to see the star, that's what you would do. Okay, Yeah, calls tell us what you had for lay? Yeah, they how much you paid for it? Yeah? Now I'm up one to Carolina's definitely Eric the Yeah, Eric, you gotta call in. Man, We're coming to see you. Let's let's go to the first Bob Costas whoa in New York City? That was Bob Costas. Doug,

how are you doing, Nate? How are you doing? Guys? Shannon? Hey man, how are you doing? Everything is awesome? Happy to get through again. So, um, I hope Kurt's feeling better. He is, he's uh, we talked to him earlier today. He's doing a treatment today, so he'll he'll probably be down for a couple of days, but hopefully he'll be back on Monday. So thanks for asking about him. Cool. Thanks man, um So Nate, um, thanks for answering the question about what the other day. What will happen if

they blitz up the middle? So tell me if this thinking is crazy, But I think maybe it would be in the Cowboy's best interest to pass to Zeke first to set up the run, maybe not just go after teeth of the defense. And also if you could, um, do you have a funny Burt Reynolds story? Now I don't have a funny Burt Reynold story. But you talk about swinging the ball out to Zeke coming out of

the backfield. Is what you guys used to do with that? Hi? Yeah? Yeah, but you know you know what, This sounds crazy, but I really would like this kind of if we could throw it like a just open the game up, throwing like a fade or something. Is that me and you talking about, you know? And if we if we catch it,

it alto matter to puts them on alert. But I do like the theory of thrown to our back out of the backfield to see if they linebackers can come out there and make that play, you know, can they Because they miss, that's gonna be that's gonna be some

chunk yardy. So I agree with you, But going at the teeth of their defense just open it up, trying to say, hey, man on, man on, I don't think this offensive line has built that way, especially we found out that we were missing him on our back ups to a backup and we had to go back and get kadeem networds. I know that while it's short yardage, I'm hoping that he maybe the tight end. But I hope we don't have to use kadem atwords because he's not strong enough. We can't have two young guys in

the middle. That's that's not strong. Do you think they throw the deep Thompson or the would I would try Gallop or either I would try Thompson. It don't make a difference, But you gotta be successful the teams. As if you watch that game last night, sir, the teams one of those teams could have solely won the game if they would have just cut their penalties in half because they killed they killed drives. Question, they messed up drives. Uh,

scoring opportunities just cause the penaltiest and Uh. If one of those teams would have said, I think one team had about seven to eight, doesn't have about nine or ten. They call it everything. If they'd just cut those penalties in half, and and and and and the takeaways or one of the takeouts. I mean balls popping in the air and guys just falling right into them, so a couple of the takeaways hurt them. I mean it was you want to blame the officials, but the guys didn't

play well. And that's what the league is about. Now that guy, you get the guy twenty million dollars a year, and ain't just quarterbacks. Now you pay a got ten million dollars a year. It's running backs, it's wide receivers, it's even offensive linement. So people are not playing. The preseason officially started last night, and like I was telling Shannon, the good teams, the teams that got they stuffed together, they're gonna be a little bit more successful than a

team that's trying to find themselves. And you know, like we got a lot of youth and we've had success in the preseason, a few snaps that our first team went. But it's a difference when you're, like I said, from going from going off seventy five and bumping grind traffic to the audubon. It's different. So now you now your timing ain't what you think it is. Everybody's flying around. You don't know how the refs are gonna call the game. And I hear we got one of the crews that

love flags. So if our guys are not on top of their game, especially going on the road. But you don't want to do as a team that's going to roll like Atlanta is. When you're at home, you got a conference level. When you on the road, you're getting all these flags. It can get disheartened. You throw interception, you put that ball on the ground and you do something silly and it just it just hurts you. Yeah, it's gonna be raining. It's gonna be a softie game.

Sounds like right, you know, so you know we won't the Cowboys bear to throw the ball. But this is a game where you you like your see all right, we got you. I'm with it. I would love because they know we're gonna run the ball. Ye, they're gonna put eight in the box and make it. No, no, not yet, not yet, when you got done Terrio Poe, you don't need a Kawan short and you got Luke Kigley. They're gonna, they're gonna, they're gonna, they're gonna be, they're

gonna be. They got some alphamail about them, and they're gonna be, like you know what, they got a rookie left guard, they got a backup center. And even though I don't look at Looney so much as a backup center. But they are, Yeah, and they saying in their mind it's a reason why he don't start in his league. So they're gonna challenge us. They like, Okay, you got the President. We know he's a stud. You got Tyron Smith, we know he's a stud. And Collin's out there up

and coming. But right here, sending left guard. We may just lines about them, on both of them and see what's happening. Go straight up. Yeah, yeah, I wouldn't. I wouldn't. You wouldn't you and I don't, Just to see where you're at. And if they run an open under, you know, they may go, you know what, they may you know what, Let's go hunder. I mean, regardless of weather. Tight end that that's let's always keep these two guys covered. Let's just see if they can hold up behind nice penetration.

Stop Doug. I don't know where Dugan's mind there. I just do not know where his mind the last few days, you know where with the human law where it's been all weak. I would you though, I would, I would. I would come out throwing because I think they think we're gonna run the ball. Why not lose somebody. But if it's bad, bad weather. That's you know, it's so many things that come into uh, trying to put a

game playing together. And then you got your game playing together, and fortunate for us, we know for coach Lanna and you know it maybe rainy weather. So now you gotta be what does Dak like to throw? What is you know, because you don't want to open the game up not up there, uh and throw early interception. I put the ground on the ball on the ground earlier because they have the type of defense. They turn into sharks, bro. You know, you know a lot of people don't understand.

You can drop some blood in the water and the shark and smell it for miles way and they'll come and they'll just be, you know, swimming around once that first shark hit meat. You know what I'm talking about? The feed after that? Does the bad weather? And I've heard both sides. I've heard the bad weather benefits the defense more because the ball slippery and you can't get your footing. But I've also heard the bad weather and and slippery turf benefits the offense more because the same

for the defense. What do you think I think the offense should have the advantage because you know where the ball is going. Right, as long as you keep your feet up under you man and play balance, you should win, especially if you have a dominant run game, you know, But by the same token, if you're if you're if your receivers ain't running the right routes and you slip in the corner just standing there right. See like last night, uh, Atlanta missed two churnovers. I mean where the quarterback just

threw the ball in their hands. Now with a Cowboys take advantage of that, or where we give Carolina opportunity. And this is the main thing with the way the preseason went. Did we know where our wide receivers truly are? You know, we have young guys. I'm not saying I don't believe in them, but I'm telling you, Carolina coming out and it ain't gonna be no zone. It's like we're manning up right. If you show us you can beat us, we may back up. But if you don't,

we're gonna continue to apply to pressure. And then they definitely knit, whether they won't you or not, then they definitely will put the eighth man in the box. We got you outside, and now the game and it's not ours in them, or we don't control the game. All right, just go back to the phones. Eric with the sea in North Carolina? What is up? Man? What's up? Get all week? Have you? Douglas not a trying to phone house. I couldn't get it. I couldn't get through man. So

it's all good. Dog. Douglas hasn't been answering the phone lately for quite honestly, say whatever it Sometimes I don't answer my phone easy. You know, I could just send the game gonna be answered all calls because you're gonna make a Yeah, pop Eyes chicken baby, not bad pop chickens, some fries, and some honey for my biscuits. Honey on the biscuit. Okay, Well you know what I thought Both Jenas was big out there are they closed there? But you ain't messing with the minutes for that stuff. But

I won't pop out. I'm gonna pop Eye guy. I like cop Eyes too. Started in Louisiana. Well, I thought you like Cane where you want like? I like Cayne's better than I started in Louisiana too. I like when I get out there, I'm going to Cane. You need to, you need to check it out. I will it's a couple other players, y'all gonna send me too. Hey, what's what's what's before you get into it? What's the buzz out there? You're you're you're in the enemy territory for

this weekend? What's everybody saying on talk radio out there and and in the in the Carolina universe. Truth be told. I don't listen to you guys when it comes to football ESPN. I don't do NFL networks and they're bias opinions. I don't do any of that, you guys. The three talk shows, the articles that you guys like Nick eat Men and data Heim and those guys. Right, that's all the information when it comes to football that I choose to receive. You know what I'm saying. But I will

say this. They're talking about how I've dropped into a couple of things. Wait a minute, Wait, you just saying you don't listen to nothing else? And then and then you you you kiss Dallas Cowboys dot Com but a little bit, and then you go, but here's what they're talking about. But I don't listen to ride them down the street, you know. And then I turned on do little radio radio station they do a little sports minute,

and um, I read a blog or two. I'm not gonna, okay, trying to use McCaffrey each and every way they can. This is gonna be the McCaffrey versus on the show Sunday. So strap up and get rid of It's gonna be something beautiful. But we are gonna make a statement. We are gonna make a statement against these guys. Man, Um, we're gonna come up like this is what let me just they just sense real quick. Philadelphia Eagles took brought

out Darren Spros last night as the lead back. That was a mistake because they did not begin to get consistent offense until they brought Jay Giant in and he was beginning to run between the tackles even from the RPO the shotgun position. He was putting a lot of pressure in between the tackles on their defense. And that's when their office begin to move. We are going to do that. We're gonna set the tone early and often.

I know it's a lot and Connor is gonna lose a battle or two so as well as Joe Looney. But they are gonna moll over these guys. It's not gonna be easy because I know this Coen Short, that's the other guy. I get it. Are prepared for this moment. Man, y'all are gonna see it. Watch this all right, my brother, we're gonna watch. We'll be tuning in. Where are you watching the game at I'm watching the hard. I couldn't

get off Saturday. I couldn't get off my job. So I'm gonna have a little Cat Dogs Cowboys game party here at my house. Bring up some family and friends. You know we're gonna get it going. Man. So y'all, I'm getting going with a game Cocks over Georgia. I'm going with Georgia, man like that defense man, this dude state. I'm gonna talk you a fan all day. Man, okay, man, but look it's going down. Some of you guys in

Julia Sales and Carolinas can beautiful in Charlotte. So we will man hey and call us back Monday when after that victory and let us know how you celebrating what all your friends are saying up there. Oh That's what I'm gonna definitely do. I love y'all, guys. Keep doing. Nate, get a moment right, be quick one more time if

you get the moment before the show. I want to get in your head a little bit about that that basically Division championship game against the Giants in ninety three when any Smiths MESSI showed up and he basically lost his mind after that, I want to I want to get in your head if I want to know what that felt like? What was that like? Innie Smiths is my hero, my number one greatest athlete ever, and I just want to know from your perspective, name you was

right there blockut so one player. When you pulled out to the right, you blew up two people at the same time. It was amazing. You know what we did? We did that. We actually did a Deep blue documentary on that game. And Nate, were you in that? Yeah, yeah, so yeah, I'll tell you what we'll do. We'll do. We'll do a segment on one show. We'll pull some

clips out of that. We'll let Nate talk about what it was like to be in that game and that whole game, that whole thing Follerstone game for our franchise in the middle, because we was gonna either go on to win three out of four or we was gonna be good with that or maybe win one more, but that game turned everything around. That was a tumultuous season for US. Emmie Smiths didn't start those first two games.

He went on to have a career season MVP and you guys, hands down the best officer line in football. Big space Eaters can move right. We got you, we got we love you, but we gotta go, Douglas. Sometimes you just gotta accidentally hang up on Eric. I was kind of interested in what he was saying there at the end. I was just listening to him. Yeah, but

we got into Carolina pounce. Yeah, Hey, let's take a we got started a little bit late, but let's take a quick break and when we come back at some point, we're gonna have brought us on the show and hopefully we can get this. How's that interview? Looking? Can't said, it's not going to happen. The computer that needs to be working is not operating with us today. Fortunate. Okay, Well, let's take a break anyway the next week. Yeah, we'll happen next week and when we cut back, yeah, we

should plan on that, all right. We'll talk some more football and hanging with a boy can be hard to find the right resource for learning about important financial matters. ninety seven. Yes. So what do you think we're gonna see in Carolina this coming Sunday? Do you think it's gonna be a ball control game? Do you think the Panthers are gonna air it out? What? I mean, what do you what do you think is gonna go down? I just you know, I just hope he's a discipline, you know, especially on the Cowboys part. Uh, We're gonna have to take some chances, I think because they have just that good defense. Uh like mccathery, MCA McCaffrey is

is a du it all back. Now people, you know, they don't want to give him credit for running between them tackles a running the ball. But I'm gonna give him credit. I think he understands what he needed to do. How they're gonna use him in the passing game. Uh Bunches is a good up and coming receiver. I think on the NORV Turner, he's gonna ask Camuh to be more of a a passer. You know it don't be so quick to get out of there. But when it is an opportunity for you to break, you know, he's

gonna do his thing. He's gonna make some runs. So I defense have to be real discipline. Ye, and when they rushed in the pastor and we talked, we were talking earlier before the show about how the game was sloppy, and you said a little bit earlier that it's gonna take teams, you know, for about three or four weeks to get up to speed before they're playing good football because you know, just the way things are in the offseason now, in the preseason and training camp, they're not

allowed to take you while to ramp up. With this being such a young team on the Cowboys side, such a young team, and Dak didn't get a lot of end game work with the with the receiving corps and it kind of you know a lot of new receivers. Do you think the same is gonna be for the Cowboys it's gonna take three or four weeks to get up to speed or do you you think yeah, not only for the players, but for the coaches. So you know, they have an idea of what they think a guy

can do well. But you know, but but under fire, can he do it? I mean can he? Can he perform? And can do he? Is he where you think he had or as he above or less? So coach is gonna be making adjustments too now. And I'm not saying this is gonna apply to every team. Some teams in two weeks they may be wow, oh my god, they

may be on fire. Some teams matter to build, like you say, ramp up as the week going, as this time going to get better and better and bet and all of a sudden you'd be like, wow, we didn't know this team was coming. But a lot of that is a lot of this inconsistencies, not only because guys don't play. It's like you lose out of fifty three guys, you're gonna lose at least ten to fifteen guys a year, do the contracts, do the injuries through the you know,

just trades. So no team you're fortunate, like like Philadelphia's fortunate. They got most all their guys back. Same with um at Luta, Same with the Rams. These guys were fortunate, Same with San Diego. When you're fortunate to keep about forty of your guys, when you gonna lose maybe ten, ten to thirteen, but when you gonna lose the fifteen twenty guys, you know, that shit depth right there with guys got paid who you didn't think was gonna get paid,

They got offered money. You know, a couple of years ago we really faced that with Church and all of those guys. Even and it happens. And if you ain't ready as a colchure, ready as a organization, it could set you back. Yeah, did you get excited before every game? Did you get hyper? Did you you know? You had a long career? I never, I never, I rarely ever played against a guy that h that was my talent or less. You know, if I played against a guy, uh that I felt didn't have it, I would crush him.

I mean, oh brother, I would, I would. I would get a game ball I got by. I got some game balls over the years, but it was cause I played against people like John Randall, Reggie White. Um, I can't think just just guys like that. See every guy I faced in the NFC when I was playing. Uh, I can't think of a great guy that played with Lawrence Taylor Man, I can't, He's out of LSU. Just Marshall, Lennard Marshall, those type of guys I played against. I

played against almost every week. In the East. You know you had Charles Man, you had uh, I can't think the big guy they had. You know they had studs because the East used to run it when I played the East used to run it. The East and UM in the West used to run it. I mean the NFC West with the forty nine ers, they used to run it. And that's what we played Green Bay. We always every year. But I was having first play schedules. That's what we had to play. Guys, top flight guys.

Did you get hyped? Did you get excite? You can never just low key and just you heard what I told Big Looney. I mean I had to be hyped every week. I never it was never known. You go back and look over our schedule. It was never not a guy. You know. I always found myself playing against a Pro Bowl guy or high level quality guy every week. So if you went in there but your mind not right,

not part. I used to be the hype guy. See like Looney, I was Looney, but but I think a little bit better, you know, And uh I was our hype guy. Bro. I used to come out of it before the games. I used to be tripping hard boy. Yeah. Yeah, you were the one bouncing around in the huddle. Yeah, man, just getting it going. Man, I didn't hear, but uh he'll knock yeah him him. Yeah, to be smart too. You know, if you want to make into the game, what was y'all pre game ritual back when you played?

Like I know now, they come out the old line is the last group out, and they high five or low five everybody, and then they huddle up and they bounce around and then they break up and go do their stretches and study. We would we you know, we would go through the line. You know that the teams would be you know, they'll introduced the offense or the defense, and we'll be out there, you know, waiting. But we never we never we said we had to see in

the locker room. We came out. It was punishment time. You know. That's how we you know, we had to get nobody hike because, like I say, we were it people. We were to hunted people. Was we got rolling in ninety eighty nine coming into ninety we were the hunted and we said we had to see in the locker room. We just you know, we were the video game like you know, your boy, you y'all see this where Tyron Smith said they coming out slashing and all that right there,

we were the slashers. We want had the swords cut folks in about that your video game difference? Yea, too bad. We can't listen to the interview, but we can listen to Jay and Rhode Island. What up, Jay? Oh man, we're great. How are you doing? Oh kind of nervous? Oh wow? What's up? Oh? Nothing? You know you just got Butterfly before the first game of the year. Yeah, hey, yeah, I just wanted to ask Nate Um, what do you think of that kid, Tyree Robinson? I like him, but

I'm tell you what brought us. We just had a question from Jay, what do you think of Tyree rob welcome to the show. Brought us. Thank you, appreciate appreciate you coming in him. Yeah, I was doing a little radio work next door, Tyree Robinson is, and it'll be interesting to see how much Rod Murnelli likes to rotate

his safeties. But you got Robinson, you have Campbell, and now you got Heath and then Frasier and those both those guys play a lot of special teams too, and I'm wondering at the confidence they have in in Robinson right now. I like the player. I felt like though he's he's taken advantage of a situation where they've been pretty thin at safety. He came and played well in the Cincinnati game. He's had some up and down moments. He's a guy that I believe can cover. I believe

he can hit you. It just doesn't have a whole that hecke Blovics experience at Oregon. He was a player that looked to me that was a draftable player. I'm not saying a third, fourth round guy. I'm saying probably a guy in the later rounds. Dallas was fortune. He's got some good looking linked to him, he got some range to him. He's willing to hit and we'll see how he plays on special teams. We'll see how he

plays on and when he gets the opportunity. But I just don't know how much Marinelli and those guys are going to rotate Heath and Frasier at it. And now something might happen to Frasier because of the shoulder, but he's been practicing, he's been practicing full and so Campbell, the other guy, has more experience. He's played in league games. So we'll see which direction will they put Will they put Robinson out there? Will they put Campbell out there?

If something happens to one of those other safeties? Hey, Jay, got you got a question for since we got broad Us in here, you got a question about about Carolina this weekend. I don't know, I just not really. I don't want to take up too much you guys time. Now I ask your question. We got our professional in house. Resident professional, you have a question, I probably probably well, I don't know, well, but you know what I mean. All the show. He kind of reminds me Tyree. Question

Joe a paw Man, Durwin James, would you go that far? Not? No, sir, No sir, not even a paw man no, sir, Oh god, well is that your question. No? I love I love Derwin James, I really did, But no, this is a different cat. Derwin James could play corner, could play safety. You know. I don't think I'm gonna throw Tyree Robinson out there playing corner. I really don't. But I appreciate it though, Jay, I really do. No. All right, you guys, take care, okay, and I hope we win. You know,

it's hard to say. I mean, last year, Kansas you know, Kansas City blew up in New England the first game of the year. And so you're really nervous. Man, You're not our same guy. Man, you are really nervous probably listening. I mean, I'm a big you know, I plea silver blue. We got this man. Just I'll tell you what strone bro when when we win on Sunday, call the show Monday and tell us that you're not nervous anymore. Okay, all right, I will. Maybe Curt'll be back. I hope, yeah,

I hope. So all right, man, take care. So you got brought us a little fascinated with the cookies you hide. No, no, don't talk about cookies. Ask questions. I don't need to What questions you got about this game? Nate? No, we have none, but I'm glad you're here. Do we have anybody else coming in? Douglas? Uh caller, I'm about to answer some right now. I have a question brought us. Yeah sure, um, I brought this up earlier. Got the cookie Monster? Nate disagrees. So what do you expect the

Carolina's defensive? Did you do you you expect them to kind of go with the normal set and let the big guys make some some noise up front, or do you expect them to start off the game kind of with with eight in the box and try to take away the run immediately. Yeah, but they're good enough to play the run without putting an eighth guy down there.

N No, this is this game is could very well, Hinge, And I think people are probably getting sick of me talking about this this game can Hinge on Connor Williams on also on that we got with with also with Joe Looney. You know, you don't really so much worry about Zack Martin. You feel like that Zack Martin and Don Terry Poe going at it could be pretty good. But did Okay, how are you gonna block Luke Keikley. How are you going to block Kawan Short? And I

don't expect those guys. The thing I worry about the most is here you've got Joe Looney trying to make a start, and he's got to worry about his assignments. But now he has to worry about Connor williams assignments too, you know, And that's gonna be is he gonna have to think too much? Connor Williams can hold up in this football game. The thing that you and I see Ezekiel Elliott bubble heads back. The thing that Ezekie Elliott has that's outstanding is his vision, his ability to press

the hole and see backside cuts. This is where guys like Nate Newton made a living with guys like him at Smith. If all of a sudden, if they're lazy on the back side, that's gonna be a tackle for a two yard game. If Nate's doing his job, or if Connor Williams is doing his job or Tyrn Smith's doing his job on the back side, all of a sudden, everything flows fast. Luke Keekley's out of the play. Now the ball is going to come behind. If Connor Williams

is struggling with that. That's gonna mean don Terry Poe right there. That's gonna mean Kawan short standing right there for Gaina too. My biggest fear in this game, guys, and I've said on our show, is that ends up to what happened in Denver last year, where you're banging Zeke and their banging Zeke and their banging Zeke in there, and you're not getting any traction running the ball. Then all of a sudden it turns into a throwing game. But Carolina doesn't now to put the extra guy in

the box. They have to trust their corners. I don't think they trust their corners. You know, there's no Josh Norman out there, any of those guys out there playing. So you got a rookie start at one of the cornerback spots. Keep an eye on that. They're gonna double move that kid Jackson a little bit and see if they can get the all down the field. But I just worry about them maybe banging their head against the line if in fact, Looney and Connor Williams can't sustain

those two guys. You know, if I didn't know any better, I would swear that you guys watch tape together or something. Nah, this is experience in the league. This is this is when you know he's always watched matchups. He will tell you he hated He hated going against Jerome Brown. He hated going against a big, heavy defensive tackle that was quick and strong. Yeah. He then he also hated going

against John Randon, who was quick. But see, this is where scouts and players look at each other and they say, look for the matchups. Look where you can win. Where can we win? Nothing against Connor Williams. Connor Williams could play incredibly and if he does play well, this team's got a shot to win, no question about it. But they can't afford him to have two, three, four bad

plays at key times. He's going to be good some plays, but there might be that one or two play where all of a sudden and fifty two is walking back to the huddle and it's for minus four. You don't need that at a key time in this game. Yeah, that's we got somebody Eric on the phone, you got a question for brought us absolutely. In twenty seventeen, Cam Newton rushed for forty seven yards average per games. Yeah,

a shocking figure. So I want to know how the Cowboys are going to combat that in week one and I'll hang up and listen. Thank you? Is it? Eric? Is yea? Eric? Thank you for your call. Eric H. New offensive coordinator, and Carolina no longer no longer, no longer Mike Shula. Now it's North Turner nor I don't think Norv Turner wants Cam Newton distill. The threat of running is always going to be there with Cam Newton.

What I worry And you could talk about this because my experience of working against you guys was with the timing base offense. It was Troy rhythm backthrow, Troy rhythm backthrow. You know, Cam Newton is not a backthrow rhythm guy. I mean, that's not his thing. So they're gonna try and do things to keep him and and throw like timing. They have big receivers. They don't have a lot of speed. DJ Morris got some speed on the outside, but they

really don't. They have big receivers. So he's gonna but throw the ball, try and hit them on timing stuff, the slant sta down the field place. But I don't think North Turner really wants him to run I don't think. I mean, the threat of the read option is still there.

The inside hand off, pull it and if you get McCaffrey going like they can, then you know that's that's that's so something you have to worry about because if they if he keeps going, keeps going, keeps going, and all a sudden pulls that, now you're gonna see not forty seven yards on average a game, it's gonna be a forty seven yard run. So that's the threat right there. But I think with the new offensive coordinator, they're more

interested to him throwing that football. When you play a guy like Cam that's very mobile, can get outside of the pocket and run it up the middle. Yes, how does that? You guys? Walk me through? How does that change your front four? Do they have to stay at home more? They do they rush? How does that work? Well? Some coaches, some coaches take out you know, when we played and we played a quarterback like that, we took out all of that, the stunts and games. Yeah we

let you playing lanes. Yeah, one on one pass rush and you played jan lanes. But if you did stunt a game, the guy that's supposed to contain have to contain and you can't lose. You can't. You can't lose it. Now, I don't believe that you have to be umbrella t rush all the time because the game is so spread out, right, but you do have to be uh responsible for what need to be done. One of the great advantages the

Cowboys do have is that you have a guy. Now, if this was Jalen Smith in twenty seventeen, I would be nervous about him his ability to not only carry to have to carry McCaffrey, but also carry the quarterback. And so that's that's the problem. When you play man coverage. Everybody turns their back every but he's running. They're scrambling, and then all of a sudden, Cam Newton's in the pocket, Damian Wilson bounces off him. Now it's a takeoff run.

You better get Sean Lead to the ball. You better get Jeff Heat to the ball, and you better get Jalen Smith to the ball. Now, those are the things. But you're better equipped now to play against teams that have athlete at quarterbacks because you got athletes at linebacker that can run and cover ground and close before the quarterback has a chance to get going. Don't perfect tackle, don't kill, don't trying to get keels shots. Yeah, it's

just perfect tackles and get down. Yeah. Yeah, he'll make mistakes. He'll make mistakes in the pocket. If you wrap him up around his legs and hold on, he'll fall backwards and throw the same thing we've seen a little bit from from Russell Wilson back in the day with Seattle. If you make these guys play backwards, and I mean play backwards, and we'll talk about this when we get to Seattle, but you make them go back instead of go up towards the line. They tend to throw the

ball off their back foot. They tend to throw it up for grabs. They tend to make mistakes. Cam Newton is not immune to make mistakes, but you have to be ready to catch the football when he does make a mistake. I don't think he sees the field all that well. And again, new offense, new routes, new things, new terminology. Uh, you know he will with NORV it will be simple, the the the verbiage. He ain't got to worry about a paragraph. I'm serious, you don't have

to worry about a paragraph. And he's gonna ask him to read more like you say, stand up in that pocket and hey, man, do go through you read your reads. But the verbiage, it's gonna be a couple of sentences. And it's kind to go to work because we believe back then. I know he's added more because he's that smart, he's added more to it. But we was ready to

block any defense that you have shown on film. You know, now you may get us if you come with something totally different, but if you showed it on film nor we was ready to block it. Yeah. Nice, well brought us. We know you gotta go get here. We appreciate you stopping. We're going to take another break and when we come back, we'll take a few more calls before we get out of play safety. Yes, sir, good luck. I'll hanging with

That's hard to say with the mouthful of cookie. Yeah, yeah, you've been going back for one of them cookies. Was gonna call yeah, but he backed off. Yeah. Oh man, let's go back to the phones. We started a little bit later, run a little bit late. We'll take at least one or

two more calls. We've got Waldo in Maryland. What's up? Waldo? Hey? What's up? Phillis? Yeah, you know, I'm gonna try to get in real quick with you. Um. I think I'm hoping that speed on defense is gonna be a big factor, and I'm hoping that Zeke will loosen up that that their defense by breaking a couple of runs. But I want to bring this up, and I don't know if anybody ever noticed this. When m Rico Gatherers goes up man,

he goes up strong. He ripped the ball from a defender, a defensive back player, and when he caught one, he grabbed the arms the guy's arm back. He comes down, he goes up like a like a rebounder. Yeah, has anybody else really noticed that, I wasn't like both, damn. But that's that's why he made the team, because everybody noticed what you're talking about. Yeah, because he was gonna make the team if he wasn't doing what you just

talked about. Believe me, brother. And if you think about it, the spectacular catches that he's made which has kept him on his team was the Hall of Fame game last year when he went up over that guy came down with the ball. You're right, And that's probably got something to do with his with his basketball background and playing at Baylor instead. But if he just ever learned, if he ever would just say, I want to be a football player, a true football player. You don't stop anything great.

I just want to see one last Yeah. Yeah. Have you guys ever heard about notice that there are there are a lot of rules that are but I call cowboy rules. Jason Witton rules. You can't run without your helmet. Um, the Michael Irving where they had to come up with the push off, the word Williams with the horse caller. It seems like there are a lot of rules that come from the Cowboys players at taking his helmet off exactly I don't know, so I just want to breathe up. Hey, Well,

I appreciate you guys. You gotta take it easy. You have a good one, and I definitely we're gonna do good this week. And I got a good film off all right, man, thanks Waldough, yeah, waldo, yeah, all everything you just said. Man, we used to laugh after every season. We we literally were sitting out at our lockers. And that's when we know that we rule the league. When they started doing things because of y'all. Emmett Man, why do you take over him? And you took it off

want too many times? Now we can't take none of us that right, yea. Eric Williams quit man your head button people all of a sudden, sticking his hands and people face masks all of a sudden, that was illegal. Roy Williams splitting folks wigs all of a sudden, that's the illegal. And that's still a you know, it's just it's just amazing how the Dallas Cowboys set all of

these rules up. It's just amazing. And that and if we if we are that good of a team to be paid attention that much, we ought to have more people in the Hall of Fame. I was going to bring that gup, but they won't put us in the Hall of Fame. They'll tell us how much you know, they got an unfair advantage. Everybody was doing it. We were just better at it. Come on, man, haters, they never make a rule up because of you. Yeah, don't eat a biscuit before the game. I mean, what ye

take candy bars on the fields? Did you used to eat in the locker room at halftime? Nah? No? Nah? Just uh, I'm telling you the eyes that h that I played against, you know, Uh, Now, I had my mind on the game, bro. Yeah, I mean, and I'm I'm a compiler. List of guys. You know, John raynads in the Hall of Fame. I played one year at right tackle. Reggie White is in the Hall of Fame. Uh who else? I played against a couple of more guys, said Charles Man. I don't know if he's in the

Hall of Fame or not. No, No, I played against Charles a little bit when I played right tackle. You know DJ jr Um played against Lawrence Taylor. You know Jerome Brown, he would have been and what's the great linebacker played middle linebacker for the for for New York Carson.

Carson played against and these guys I ain't talking about no once a year, once every two years, twice a year, so I had to see twice a year, and when we were good, I had to see him three times a year because one year had to play the Giants in the playoffs in the first round for home filled advantage. So we were seeing the red Skins three times a year.

We're seeing the Giants three times a year. We would see the forty nine is play them doing the regular season and playing It's like there was in our division of we was in there were playing him doing the regular season and then wind up playing him in the playoffs. I think I know the answer to this. I'm pretty sure I do, but I'm gonna ask it anyway. Who

would be Jerome Brown? Was probably the one guy that you didn't like going up against the most when you played right, you say who in today's game, who would be your Jerome Brown? Who would you? He's not as big as Jerome, but Donald really either Sue? No, either, Sue. When I'm gonna tell you something, I wish Sue could have played with the strongest coaching staff, stronger players, because he gonna play this year. And I don't know how that coaches staff would run, but he gonna play with

a guy that's equally as good as him. And Donald and Brother they can be nat they might be. They could be anything they want to be. Why do you like those two guys? Is it the way they play? Is that? Their attitude? Is that their technique? What what is it that you like about? They are guys that can look you in your face and say, man, you can't do it one on one, not against me and Brother. It's the truth. Ain't nobody in this league block these guys one on one if they don't want to be blocked. Now.

I ain't saying they're gonna make every tackle, and I ain't saying they're gonna have one hundred sacks, but they're gonna always be leaking off. The great players are always leaking off. They always if you check Donald out, like last night you check out Fletcher Cox, I mean you could block him, but he always leaking off. He always, like in your mind, is often like like, man, this dude still about to make the tackle even though you did your job. Wow, this dude always got the quarterback

we were talking about that. There's not very many guys in the league that can make a tackle without touching. That's right. Last night when he fell off on that screen. Did you see that last night? Douglas went um when Fletcher Cox was running with the old lineman and then he stopped and went back because he saw the back go back and he and the back and it was a little back. It just stopped. He just stopped a

little background. You can fake him out. He just still right there, like, okay, either you know, either you're gonna run in the middle, let me tackle you, or these sharks are coming. And he wow. It was just I'm telling you, when you and the way offensive lineman, the way the league is lacking in good offensive lineman, before you know it, man, they're gonna have to start making a ruse. That is unfair because if if Donald and Sue decide, hey, man, we're taking over this game, who's

gonna stop him? And I'm gonna tell you another a young pair. I'm gonna tell you a young pair that if they decide to play a young set of tackles where the guys be playing this week, if they decide to play, it's gonna be hell. It's come on short and Don Teriopo say hey, we're bringing it. It's gonna be hell on us, even with the even with the president.

If those two young guys that play with the Washington redskin pain and the other kid, I don't know, if they decide to play and say you ain't running this ball. You ain't running it because they got that type of talent and that type of ability. Yeah, talk talking about d line. YEA quick question for you before we get out of here. Tyrone Crawford lost a lot of weight in the offseason to get this. Gonna help him. He don't even know you think he's gonna be, but he's

gonna him out. Even moving him inside this is he don't even annoy It looks gay. You know what is Donald? Donald is shorter than him, maybe way five or ten pounds more than it. Oh, it's a mindset. It's them dudes. He played all he got is played with leverage and believe what he see. You know the good players you know, And I'm gonna tell you the kid that we had here that came from Carolina. Uh, great Hardy, Greg Hardy, Greg Hardy one bigger, just about the same size, Great

Greg Harder. Maybe just a tad bigger. But when you got the right mindset. If Tyron Crawford say, man, forget this, I'm I'm using my speed, strength and leverage, they can't. They're gonna be to mess with him. They ain't gonna be able to mess with him. Man, he's gonna be a three technique. And I'll tell you what if he if he gets the clicking on the inside. You got Gregory on one end. You got I think they're gonna put there. I think they're gonna start Charleston, Oh Gregory. Yeah,

because you want to defend the run. And you don't want Gregory who don't have a foundation on him yet. You don't want him getting tired from them. But the past run, you know, people, you need to start to run. Get somewhere. Let him rest the past. We we can, you know, yes, and then throw the human log in there and here you go the human By the way, he said he would come on the show next week. So yeah, that makes hand on Jack black or black

Jack and none of that stuff rub on the log. Yeah, and maybe next week we'll figure out that Tyran Smith interview that we did. We talked about all kind of cool stuff with him. Dragon ball Z yeah, talking about kid yep, how he spends his off time and yeah, his favorite car. Yeah, I don't even own his favorite I don't even think we asked him anything about the game on this week. While Hey, we had some great callers to day. We did eat questions. Yes, and when

we win Sunday, call us. We want to hear from you on Monday, especially I guy Man Eric and North Carolina. Know the other guy, Jay Jay had me worried. Man. I was like, he sounded kind of down down man. I think brought us killed him on the show before us. He didn't like I don't want to ask, brought us nothing I know, brought us that he isn't talking. Well, let's get out of here a little. We actually late but early, Dallas. Thanks for pushing the buttons, Kurt. Hopefully

we'll see you next week. Get well, Betty Zee, Nate, thanks for bringing it. KNT, thanks for doing what you're doing. We will be back Monday, Victory Monday on Hanging with the Boys. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
