Before listening, ask good doctor, if your heart is healthy enough for Dallas Cowboys football. He's hanging with the boys, broadcasting live from Dallas Cowboys World headquarters at the Star in Frisco. Now your host Nate Newton, Kurt Daniels, and Shannon Gross Friday. And that can mean only well, actually several things, but only two things on this show. We'll be taking fan calls later. Yes, sir, don't call us yet.
We'll let you know in And we are joined by the big knowledge ball of football, A big knowledge ball. Hit football guy, No ball of football, ball of ball. I wouldn't do that to you. Brought us, brab brought us. Welcome to the show. Hey, thank you boys. What's up? Man? You know what we're on this show. We're already we've already kind of written this season off. If you want to just talk about speak for yourself. You always on the neck. If you want to go ahead and start
talking about draft broad us or like what direction? Yeah? What draft? What? Guys? When we talk about that draft, let's just I do Oh wait wait wait, I got about thirty five guys I've looked at so far, so good shape. I have a draft RelA Waite, Am, I doing a magazine for you again this year, Draft magazine. Let's talk about this. Okay, what all are you doing around the draft? You're doing a draft show that's got a draft. Yeah, we go next Thursday. We have a
draft show starts to eleven, am. Thank you for bringing that up, Shannon. We'll have draft shows when we go to the Senior Bowl every day and then every day at the Combine. So a lot of draft shows for you guys when a Senior Bowl. Senior Bowl is on the twenty third of January, so we're twenty six right, Yeah, but that you get in there. Yeah, they have to check in and all that. But yeah, well we'll be there Senior Bowl in in uh, having shows. And then Kurt once again asked me to write a or help
write a magazine. We're gonna do a magazine, Draft magazine. Tell us about the draft magazine, Kurt, Well, it's a lot of most of it's Brian's work. I mean he does all these the scattering reports, and I think how many players in that thing. I think we had scattering reports over one hundred last year, over four hundred listed. Yeah, got a lot of names and we actually need to sit down and kind of yeah, I'm already kind of working on that. Yeah, get your feedback on what you
would like to do. It's always pretty good. But no, hopefully and then again we'll have Dame Burglar on once again. You know, he's a big ball of knowledge, and then Dave Hellman will help out. So yeah, we'll look forward to it. It's always a fun time a year. You hate when the season's over, but you gotta move on. You got to say, Okay, what needs to be fixed, what needs to be done, go ahead with your draft question. Well, just as a scout, how much emphasis, more or less
whatever it's placed on bowl games? You know what it's you have guys that will go get one last look at a guy live. I know with Ohio State and USC players to night, sir, there'll be a plenty of cowboy scouts on that field pregame kind of looking at body types and you know, kind of talking to coaches and all that. But yeah, I think the bowl games are important. The problem is now with bowl games, these kids have figured out and I don't blame him one bit,
especially if they're a high draft pick. After what happened with Jalen Smith. You're finding kids not wanting to play in these bowl games at the end unless it's for a playoff situation or a national championship situation. And quite honestly, I cannot blame them one bit. Well, yeah, what would you have done back in the day, Nate, would you played? Yeah? If Nate, if Nate, if you were a top, if you the Notre Dame guard, if you're the Notre Dame.
Really yeah, I think what you owe? You're a team you bye bye bye, you be junior seeing you've basically given everything, you got everything you've got right, Uh you know, now that's that's the reality of fantasy. Like I tall people fantasy. Oh man, we we we we we signed you a for scholarship, but you don't tell the world as a year to year of schottarship. Yeah, that's true. A lot of coaches come in, is that's true. I don't want you you you can transfer whatever you want.
It's a year to your scholarship. And that that's the sad thing about everybody trying to make themselves look well, but what do you how do you feel? Well, obviously how you think about it. But like for most of those guys on that team. This is their super Bowl, this is their last shot. The selfish. Don't you say, hey, this guy's being selfish. I have a chance to wind. We'll have a chance to ask you this question. Right here, you have a daughter, our son both Okay, what if
your son is a let's use your daughter. That's what if she's a genius. What if she goes to Stanford at sixteen years old and then she get twenty. By time she gets twenty, uh, she's she's in a research group and y'all about to break something big. But somebody will say, we'll give you two million year and you can work for us. What would you tell your daughter? Well, I don't disagree with you. I'm just saying from a call me selfish from a public from a public perception,
that's just public perception. That's what That's how that got see that, that's that that that's the problem. We've taught these kids to be selfish all day life, and then when they do the ultimate selfish, we want to we want to say, hey, what about your teammate? But you never thought about a teammates. Yeah, but this is a recent occurrence to my experience, my personal experience playing an l sho. I played seven games offensively where I got offensive snaps O other times I was deep snapper and
stuff like that. I yeah, exactly. I mean it was like I never I always appreciated the fact that the Bowl games and experiences I got because of other teammates. You know, if and if in a day and age we didn't skip to go you know, but if that happened to me today, I would be so grateful for the experiences I got for those with those teammates, I wouldn't It wouldn't bother me at all. Now you're in a situation where coaches wins and losses, maybe in jobs
and stuff like that, or having a winning season. But you got to understand, though that there's some give and take here with these programs as far as the kids in the program. I mean a lot of these coaches are millionaires because of the kids in the program. And you're sitting there thinking, gosh, well, you know that geist kid at LSU running back. I mean, I need him that, you know, I need him to play. I want to win.
But you got to realize though that to get us to this point, he was a big, big part of that. And I don't I don't fault anybody for making a decision that way. Because what it has always amazed me about the NCAA. They never bring out the straight truth. But you think Texas A and M should have said, well, coach, fulfill your promises at Florida State and once you get through. Yeah, so I don't care about the college or the coaches,
it's the teammates. Okay, what about that? I never what about the coach that has recruited all those kids to Florida State and he take off the Texas A and M from notably more money. It's not a better program. It might be working. Were trying to be selective and it always come down to the later. Wow, the players should do this. Uh what do you think about your teammates? But nobody thinks the coach can lead an league. The trainers can lead, but the player can't leave, especially to
better him on herself. The player can never lead to better themselves. For decades, this hasn't happened. Now you're seeing in the last couple of years. I just I never I would never have a problem. I would never. No, I wouldn't and I don't necessarily either. I just think from public perception talking so damn much. You do over to talk more in the last two minutes, and you have last year. One thing about it, one thing I love about him. He gonna defend his point of view.
But I understand what he's saying. But is having teammates like that again, a guy that didn't play all the time and better you backing up this guy and all of a sudden, you you're in the biggest stage of your life. I don't want to play. Come on back. Yeah I don't. I don't want to block. I think to running back from you think to run it back. Derrick Thomas is not fun to block. Come back, Karen blocked Derek Thomas here at Alabama. Now, I would thank you.
From a teammate standpoint, you would be happy for that guy. No, I always going to the league and you're like, you know what, brother, there's there's guys today. And a matter of fact, I sent a text message to one of my former teammates that played in this league for a long time. Just nice to hear from him. This This is I last played it down in nineteen eighty six and January of nineteen eighty seven. You know, I mean,
these are guys, these are like brothers to me. And then I'm always happy when guys do well, you know, teammates was because again I didn't mean when I handed in my uniform at the end of the day, Crypmin Stepp didn't have to wash it. You know, they could just hand hanging back up on the hook and you know they've been okay for the next game. You know, some of these guys, you know, gay body parts out there so that I could get a nice experience at a Sugar Bowl or Orange Bowl or one of those places.
So no, I always I'll always support I just you know what, and I I look at it just coaches. Some coaches are walking to your house. Yeah, some coaches are walking to your house and say you the program and tell you know what. I'm not saying that your kid is gonna play in the NFL, but if he had, but we have this amount of scouts, I mean, some coaches to sail you own your Oh, they do that invisibility of your kid at my program. If he's everything that we think he's gonna be. Now you settling this
dream of NFL here it comes the nail. The thing about nowadays and this is my experience was at TCU in two thousand and seven. Work in the football ops are a media guide was not really called a media guy. It's called a recruiting guide. It was called because what we did is, you know, you have a lot there. There might be ten pages dedicated to what j Nate's just talking about guys that have played in the NFL. The experiences, trust me, Ohio State, US State, they got
them all, they got them all. Hey, everybody that's in the NFL has got their name up on a ploque there. And when you walk in there and look at that, or you got to Nebraska one of those places, you're going, oh my god, they got a lot of pro players. Now they don't have they don't have pictures of guys we just signed up. Yeah, it's all the pro and it ain't some guy like me. They just got his degree. Yeah, I mean they're hey, they they got they got one.
They got one little picture of all of us to graduated. Yea, our caps and gowns. But there's only one little picture as compared to all the all Americans and all sec and guys playing in the NFL. Trust me, not eighty thousand people ain't going to a math math test thing or a debate. They're going to they're going to watch football. So to answer you a question, me, Abrods have any regrets about teammates of that's interesting to hear and I'm I find that interesting. I'm glad to hear that as
teammates that that it didn't bother. It means that you guys you played with, means so much. It just man, it means I mean, he they had a reunion for their twenty fifth super Bowl team, the twenty fifth anniversary super Bowl team. I'm sure you had. I mean seeing all those guys again. Some of them looked heavy, some of them look good something I mean, but everybody hue. But but the thing about it is they all told stories.
They all told stories on each other and stuff. And that's something you never you never ever ever forget that, never forget. It was interesting that Jalen said he would do it over again. Didn't That is so unique. He is so his experience and Notre Dame was special. Yeah, he is, you, Jalen. Here's the difference. The other part, he's all playing and making money in the league. If
that would have ended his career, and he wouldn't. But I'll tell you what, though he's making a lot, he's making a lot less money than he You would have had to have drafted him where Ezekiel Elliott and Jalen Ramsey and Joey bos and those guys were picked. You would have had to pick him that high. So his Zekiel Elliott is making a lot of money. And and and it's not to say Jalen's not making money because again you you know, it depends on you where you are.
But he his injury lost him millions. This dude is just this seems fine. I can talk about Jalen with like, I ain't got no comment, man, This dude is so different than than than a whole lot of people. Man. He to mention him, especial when he comes to stuff like playing the game. I never believe somebody asked me to give him a grade of his season on Twitter at game and a plus and they're like, hey plus. I never thought he'd play it down. Yeah think about that.
I mean that's me or just this year ever? Wow? Ever? I mean I was so anti Jalen Smith being drafted. When did they draft him with round? It was a second round? Play around? Yeah, same draft is Zeke, see to me, this is where this is where you sit there and you're like, you know, I mean I heard nothing but negative things about the surgery and the doctor Cooper did. Doctor Cooper's brilliant surgeon. I mean he could
fix He obviously got Jalen Smith to play. And I think about the sixteen games and there's a lot of us. I mean me, like I said, I I'm the first guy to raise my hand of saying Jalen Smith shouldn't be here. Least prove me wrong. What'd you think of his comment that he feels elite again? He doesn't look quite elite when he when he was playing at Notre Dame. Excuse me, that was an elite football player. He's he's seeing the game better though. That's that was a problem early.
He was so wrapped up, and I don't think it was all the medical stuff. I think it was more about just just getting back on horse and down block. You know, I've got to do this, you know. Way just mean when they took him out of the lineup, it kind of gave him a breath of fresh air again that he could say, Okay, what am I doing wrong? And he figured it out. You think he's gonna continue to get better. Yeah, you talked to the trainers and the doctors and every They were kind of thinking that
twenty and eighteen was going to be his year. They were thinking that two years removed that he was going to be that was gonna be this year. I hope they're right. I really do Nates right. He's such a great kid. He always had his face. There's nothing fake or phony and no offense to NFL player's name, but there's a lot of fake and phony n players. You mean, they were they were ross. They will tell you, you know, I'm a man of God, and then the next player
their MF and you're coming off the field, you know. So, I mean he is a genuine person. Is a fake? Yeah, he's a genuine person. And I think that's why you pull for him, not just because of what he's gone through, but because he's a good person. It's one of those things that you like, God, I wish I was that good. I wish I was that kind of a person instead of being a stupid guy I am sometimes, you know, I mean he's he's a legitimate guy. Real quick, before you go no, no no, I mean, I'll say for a
little bit. I'm sorry. I mean, if you want to talk Eagles, we'll talk Eagles, or you want to keep talking to talk anything, Yeah, go ahead. Look, God, Kirk, shut up today already together. But it's the it's the question everybody's asking. I mean, why not play the young guys. You think Garrett is kind of blowing smoke. No, I think that this is where Jason Garrett is trying to
be consistent throughout his approach. If you remember a game a couple of years ago with Romo and all those guys, they were in a game in Washington at the end of the year and didn't have to do I mean, everything was kind of locked in. They were going to have to go to Green Bay, you know, they were in the playoffs and stuff, and they they played their
starters into the third quarter. It was I mean, it was a game where it was a game where des Bryant caught the ball on the screen and went like you know, I mean, they you're just saying, okay, pull them, Okay, pull them, okay, pull them. Wow, it's halftime here, and Nate, what do you think about the adjustments? Well, back to the game, Okay, pull him and he just kept playing them, and I think this is where you see, this is
the consistency of Jason Garrett. This is where I can see the I don't think he ever wants to put his team in a situation where they're not playing the game, where they're not playing to win, right, And you know last year that's what he preaches that And last year, did they make some adjustments? Dak played what a series or two and all that. I mean, they might make some adjustment. I'm just gonna tell you, guys, talking to some people, the starters have been practicing all week. Dez
Bryant was on the field practice in the day. Now Cole Beasley has not been on the field practicing, you know, but their starters are practicing. The guys. He's absolutely right. The guys that are healthy that can play are on the field practicing. And he's gonna go to Philadelphia and try and win a football game. Now, can he incorporate some young guys along the way. I think we see the young guys, that's the young guys in the secondary start so they'll play. Well, we'll see young guys. We've
seen the young guest. But do you think it's overcompensating for two thousand and seven. No, they were thirteen and three and they didn't do anything and then they lost to the Giants. No, not at all. No, it was okay, yeah, he's I think I think they played at Washington. It was a rainy game. Who is that beard? Who is that talking? Do you recognize the voice? Thanks to Sir Douglas Paraclow. Okay, okay, okay, I see that's to me, And that's a good question. But I think that this
is who Garrett is. I think he I think it's about the blue it's about the blue longsleeve shirt and about the blue shorts, and it's about the blue hoodie, and it's about them. It's it's what we do. This is what we do. We play football. And whether that's now the question is gonna come up if all of a sudden, you know, number four drops back and gets hit in the back of the head and is out of the game, you know, and then well, why did you risk why did you what? You know, that's a
question he'll have to answer. But he'll say, we're football players. We play football. That's what we do. And so I don't think he ever wants to go back and have to say, and someone can question, well, in a meaningless game last year, you didn't try, you didn't play the guys. I don't think he ever wants to be that guy. Yeah, because well there's some teams. Yeah, there's some teams that like if you're in the playoffs, sitting in if you know,
like in Kansas City, they're not they're playing mahomes. You know, it looks like men Menon is playing it. Men is playing at the rams this week as they're taking golf out. So I mean, I can understand. I would love to see him, you know, do what he has to do. But I also understand and correct me if I'm wrong. Former player, super Bowl champion player, correct. You know, the players, the coaches, the front office. There's only sixteen of these and they want and they play him that they play, Hey,
we're gonn let's go win. Let's go win. Whereas the media guy now that I am become, has said, why, h don't be that don't be that guy. Hey, Dion Sanders said that while he played business decisions, and like what I said, The thing, the thing is, each team brings on a different set of circumstances. You know, I'm quite sure see Jimmy was very protective of Emmy. Emmett was our baby. Yeah, appreciate even Troy will give you a series or two as em will be just building
at all. You ain't playing boy, that's it. So uh, it just depends on a guy that Mike will be out out of the quo the first series of so so. But our offensive line, we it's like they did access the only we're gonna play A nine. I think the only substitute on the offensive line that you might see this week, and maybe that Joe Looney might jump in, but I've heard of the whole offensive line practice. The
guys that could practice. The only only one that was different was at right tackle that they were looking at substituting Chads Green and also with with Lyle Collins. Why would they do that, Well, I'm just saying that they were gonna Letle Collins played. If something were to happen where they said, okay, we need to get him out, then that then Chad's Green was gonna immediately at right tack,
I immediately put Cooper Russian if that happened. See, that's that's the that's the thing you're having to worry about, right, But you don't want to put Cooper Rushi in with an experience, He'll put Colby. Now, let me let me ask you this. And this is a theory that Mickey came up with, and I and I like what Mickey said here and it makes a lot of sense. I don't always agree with Mickey, but I'll agree with him
on this. Could this be a situation where they're not getting Cooper Rush and he reps and they're gonna play it like a game that if Dak prescott because usually during the week he doesn't get reps. Usually he doesn't, he has to if he plays, he'd have to play like a normal week. Where is this a situation where all of a sudden during the game, second middle the second quarter, Jason Garrett walks over to Cooper Rush and says, Dak's out during the game. You know, is this is this?
Are they testing? Are they are they testing Cooper Rush in this game? As can he come into a game where it's twenty two degrees and move the offense without without taking reps? No, I'm just I'm asking. I mean, I'm asking. I mean that that's mind has been blown. That's a cruel, That's cruel. That's cruel. That's but does he get reps during the week in week four or week six or week eight or week can nate again, you've played a lot of cruel man, that that's that's
not right. I mean you you Okay, if if if my hogs up front or the normal Hall normal Hawks, Okay, I'll go for that. Yeah, but you don't have maybe maybe I go, yeah, Turans, I gonna play's gonna start at left tackle. Okay, but if but if if I got a mismatch line, that ain't that ain't no man, let this guy at least no wow, no, no, no, no. Koba Rush is valuable because he is the back up. He is very very you play, do you know whether he can play or not giving him every opportunity to
prove that he can by giving him some reps. Okay, don't, don't do him like that. Don't. By the time I send him in, Fletcher Cox may not be on the field. Yeah, but they hold him. Baby base second team defensive line is better than our second team offensive line. I see the point of that, because you want that's the way he would normally again and situation, you want to see if he can handle that he's leave him. Wow. Wow, Wow, I would like for wow, you get four Wiles in
a row? Stuff? Right, For sixteen weeks, I've sat in that room and something will happen in the game and I get the wow, and he'll go, what was what was the carry? That was a minus twenty one? Wow? You get four of them in a row? Though, That's that's big time. He would when he wows you that you mean something bad. There's different levels a while there. Wow. We've kept this kid for sixteen weeks. We've let u more go, We've let other guys pass through the waive
of Wile. I just would like to give him every rep that he can get. I mean, would you say wow if he comes in the middle of the second quarter with no with no reps this week, if if you're sitting there with me, and if it ain't I, if it ain't the normal Hogs in there, you're gonna get more in the whole. You're gonna get something else soon. All right, check out, everybody makes sure you check out. If he goes in the game, normal Hogs not in, then check out at our halftime show this week coming
up on Dallas Cowboys dot Com. Ever to me to me, to me, brought us to me. Every player that you have on this roster that's finishing the season is very very important. Sure they are, Uh to me, Cooper Rush is very very important because you you we made him what backup game? He's our back, He's he's our guy. So give him every rep because he is a young guy still he Wow, give him time not to be nervous.
Do you give him time not to be worried about you don't want to you don't want to be Okay, you just say throw him in a coal he won't, he won't think about it. He'd just go play. Yeah, I mean, is that kind of what Cooper Rush did to make the team. Yeah, that's that's that's what he did. But he's what he knew. He was gonna get some run. Man. Oh lord, maybe times he get a good sample side. Sometimes the backup comes in, plays great for that game and then he does nothing for the next three he
has to start. Wow, we've think Coober Rush is a little bit better then I know him a backup? What? Okay, you know what, let me go back with what's your take on Cooper Rush as a quarterback? I like what I saw in Cooper Rush in the preseason. I like the I like the toughness, like the ability to stand in there. I think he led the team. They go Jason Jason Cooper Rush gonna play, Hey, coach, Coach Garrett is Cooper Rush gonna play this week? That means I gotta go. I mean you do gotta go. Oh yeah,
we can't get calls until you get back. Yeah. That goes to commercial breaks too. We had to keep talking about Tommy Johns. You know we'll read it. So who is uh? Who is out? Do we know who was out? They just missing out the Oh wow, it's lengthy. Out for sure? Is David Irving the concussion? Right? And Benson on this questionable as Richard ashe he was limited today. Cole Beasley, he's been out with the flu all week again, right, did he DMP this week? He did not play. Say
he's probably gonna be an inactive. That means Ryan Switzers number ten, Ryan Switzer, Lyle Collins questionable, he was limited today. Okay, fifty fifty on that one. As far as I told you about that, yeah, Rod Smith was questionable, but he did not practice the last two day. Did not practice the day I think he might be an out too. Also excuse back, and I guess he's beat a little bit of who is out backs. They're gonna go with two zeke and forty six to get him rung at
forty one could play a little back. Yeah, yeah, that's right. Yeah. And let's see for the Eagles. Out is Jalen Mills cornerback? Oh he's out? No, no, no, no no no, read the line. Brandon graham defensive Brandon Grahams had an ankle. Right, yeah, that's good. That helps your tackle. Jalen Mills is question He practiced full Okay, Kurt, and I'm gonna stop letting you read this thing. Joe, you just skipped over a glaring Joe Walker is a linebacker, a glaring admission overlooked
a big thing. Look at the last gall and the Cowboys roster. They said it. Terrence Williams, Yeah he didn't practice today. It's not injury lead. He's gonna play. He still didn't practice. That's a big deal. Right on a Fridays it out or questionable, huh, he's not listed as either one. I think he plays him, but chanting good job of trying to make something out of make something matter, and I want to see Noah Brown and I want to see Daz Noah Brown and Switzer keep an eye
on lance Lenore. Oh yeah, I know that. I know that Jason was talking about It's no guarantee Lanceloor got the call up. But I will say this about lancelor from what I've learned about him, he is and I've said this on some shows, he's the one guy that's a practice squad player that gets actual work with the first team. He will get he will get two three plays a practice, and then this week he's gotten a lot more because of the situation with Dez and Terrence
and some other stuff. Now, he was in some special team situations in preseason, right right. Yeah, it was a disaster. Yeah, but yeah, they kept giving him a chance. Yeah right, But this is a guy that this is a guy that I'm hearing some really really positive things about. Can you learn rounds? Oh yeah, he's got some quickness to him, he does. He can get open a small college guy. Yeah he is. I'm trying to But you don't have
to worry about Will McClay. Will McClay, I think we'll say what do I got liberty on the mind and one of those. Can someone can look it up. I'm sure it's one of the Hey man, wow, Western ill, oh, Western, I knew it was as Liberty, but yeah, Liberty, give me deaf ax Baylor. Yeah, but anyway, keep an eye keep an eye on Lanceling door, Keep an eye on Lanceling door. Okay with the scam, yeah cool? Wow, man, you just go throw a kid at Coole. Hey man, hey,
hey you want hey, just figure it? Figure what out. Let's kind of got thirty seven sacks, and they got five through Fletcher, they got five through Bennett, and they got nine and a half through uh Barnett, Yeah Barnett. Yeah, Now that's what twenty sacks and they got like seventeen other sacks from guys. That's backups. What are you saying? You don't want this kid to play in the game today. What I'm saying is give him some reps. Give it. What does that matter? Just give him some reps so
he give him some reps. Give it? Wow? Okay, Okay, it's been on needs you them all. You brought bad news. I will say, you know you see trying to help you with the inactives. Put him in a hat. I don't know, this is one of those because you've got men, You've got guys that you know, like I said, the sick guys and stuff. This will be one of those days where you really say, Okay, well who this who that kind of a thing. I mean it really when we do the pre games, like going down to the
saying who that, who that going? Who that? Who that gonna play? Who that who? Butler gonna be active again. I think Butler's gonna be okay for this game. Yeah. I mean I've kind of hearing some positive things about him the way he's practiced the last couple of days. So probably the last game for him. You know, if you look at it, he's his contract is up, he's you know, if he gets an opportunity, maybe he'll go someplace where he's used some more, not you know here.
I think it's been a little bit of a struggle for him. Yeah, but we'll see what else Kurt got anything else for brought us before we let him go? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, man, Yeah, because I like you when you feisty. I like him when he talks. Hell yeah, wow, hard to talk around you guys. What he said, no, no, because every time if he brang up a point, he will defend it.
He he never been shy about that. You may have to you know, but ask you guys a question, yes that what do you think about all the comments from the locker room with des Bryant? I was, I was gonna ask you say that all the time somebody brings something up. Well, well you took my question. I was, what do you guys think think about that? As a as a former former player, when you see a teammate go strong like that, is which part of him comments? You didn't that I'm talking about the scheme, Yeah, just
talking about in general. What you know is that something as a as a teammate you want too late for me? Those those are things you could said another time. It's not a time and place for Yeah. Yeah, not now, not not with one game left. Nah. This something you should have went to your coaches about. This, something you should have talked to mister Jones before about. I have a question. There isn't that. He says he's going to talk to mister Jones about that. He's already talked to
Jason first. Okay, but they've talked to Jason. Yeah, but why is your player? I mean, as as if I'm Jason. I'm like, this is my problem. Why is my player going above me to my owner? But general manager? General manager? Yeah, okay, yeah, the general manager puts together the team. Yeah, but he's talking about schemes and stuff. Well is that? Well? The general manager ultimately hires and fires the coaches. Again, if
I'm the coach, I don't like that. I mean, is it that happened on normal But you're dealing with a coach. Are you're dealing with a coach as an open door policy and you're dealing with a general manager owner that as an open door policy? Does that happen on other teams? What an upset player go above his coach to his generalman? Well, songs as long as the players, it's no, as long as the player has talked to the head coach first, which he has, they see chans not gonna answer this question.
I'm gonna tell you you you you as a player, you know, I've always I never got I never got past my position coach, right, so you know because now I wasn't that guy. Yeah I wasn't. You have to have something to you, skins on the wall, Yeah, you got to have some moxy to you to get to get to the general manager, which your problem about what you think is obasially going to bitch to Jerry Jones is not the same as Dez Bryant. Yeah yeah, and see, uh whether Jerry says something to the head coach or
not would be up to Jerry. But the bottom line is just right here, we've played a whole season. Why yeah, I mean now they brought brought up your your money. Jarry hasn't spoken to you. Are the head coach, all the GM, which is Jared, are the vice gem which is uh Stephen Steva. Nobody's talking to you about that
only the media. Don't let the media. Don't let the media make you go out of character, right, you know, I just I would have been like, no comment, because what if they don't go to him for a reduction, What if they don't step to him for that? What if they say, well the scheme, you know, maybe they come to that conclusion on their own. Hey, well maybe we need to go a little more bunch, a little more rub routs. You never know, But don't don't don't like like like, uh, my head coach, tell us Son
you got a problem with me, talk to me? Because the other way, you may back me in a corner and you may not like it. Well, yeah, it undermines. I would think the head coach is authoritive. Now, if it's contracts stuff, maybe yeah, but yeah, this is where the you know, the conversation is going to be about. Okay, if they come to him and say we want to reduce your salary, you know, then it's like, well, let me tell you why. Yeah, I'm having the struggles I am. Okay.
I think that I think the owner and the general manager is a is a guy. One of his best traits I've ever experienced from a guy is his ability to listen and sometimes to a fault, right, you know. But I think that Dez Bryant will have his day with the owner general manager and be able to say, now, you know, but the fact of it, he did go to his coach. You know. That's that's what you have to do first. And here's the here's my take on it.
This is this is me my thoughts, and I have no insight to this, but I think I think a lot of times Dez has a hard time he saying what he conveying what his thoughts are, and he's very passionate and if you get him in the wrong place at the wrong time, you ask him the right or wrong question or whatever. He thinks of it one way and it comes out another way. Yeah, So I think maybe it was just you know, I care when it happened.
I don't. They caught him off guard, and I think, you know, maybe somebody said something and he's when he one thing and he comes out with this, and he tried to cover himself when he tried to when he saw where it was going, and they said, hey, will you take a pay cut? Then he he kind of and then all of a sudden he hit him like his pride hit him. Hell, you know, the video is a little bit lighter than I mean, you just read it. It It looks kind of like hell right, Yeah, on video,
he's he's a little bit well audio audio. I'll I'm gonna tell you something, brother, And I've never been this guy, but except in my house, is have you ever And this question I asked people, have you ever in your workplace been the man at your position. If you've been the man, you making identify what what he said. But this is going through I mean, you go from every meaningful record as a wide receiver he got either hard
of So he is the man. So when you he set itself off from the media, you started talking the media two three weeks ago. So now you've been in the report back with the media. But they caught you all off God because you that was the last thing you thought it was gonna as what why? You what what?
Because he's the man. He never thought. I remember two or three weeks ago when it when my brand, uh Terrence, Terrence Williamson went over a hundred yards Uh you know, Dad sitting there like, yeah, yeah, y'all have been on my board, but really they wanted to ask this same question. You ain't did nothing either. Yeah, you get what I'm saying. So when he got hit with these questions, he was called all off God. Now he was called all off
God for sure, for sure. Do you think that very now, Grant, because I meant you talking, say so, do you think Dez is getting too much criticism for the way he's played this year? I mean I think it. Like two three weeks ago, I threw out there on Twitter that that he's playing through that knee injury. I didn't know how severe. I knew it was pretty I knew it was something and it was ten to night. It's and he needed a day off. He got it yesterday. Is
he Is he not the Does Bryant that we'd seen before. Absolutely, des Bryant doesn't drop balls at hit his hand. I mean, he's not been as inconsistent catching the football. You know that's been I think that's the thing people are trying to figure out. Why is he so inconsistent? I brought out something this morning on our show because we talked about Dak and Dez having I want to get your guy's opinion. Dak and Does seemed to have some type
of problems. I mean not problems off the field or anything. I mean, but they have connection problems, right, you know, not not insane? Was Romo and Roy Williams a good combination while he was here? Dat's would say probably not. Yeah, looking with your eyes, they wouldn't. He I'm saying, you know it happened. You know, they gave they went and gave a big pick picks for Roy Williams, gave him a huge contract. Him and Romo could never get on the social Brady couldn't get on the same page. You
couldn't do it. Yeah, what what what causes that because you had Laurent Robinson that came in here never been a good, A great receiver comes in, he catches what six seven eleven touchdown jos and gets a big contract from from where Jacksonville doesn't play, It doesn't peer drop it say, but they were on the same page. How does how does that happen? Is it just some people have a better some people? Yeah, it's you look at some of the all time great combinations. Of course it
might be about the quarterback. Look what Dan Marino had with Mark Duper and Clayton those guys. Look what Look what Peyton Manning had with with Marvin Harrison and my other guy of eighty seven from Miami. Uh, what's my guy? The other guy's name Reggie Wayne. Sometimes you have rapport with receiver just because of how your ability. Yeah, Tony Romo, we think Tony Romo was a prettydamn good quarterback. Right. He couldn't get a ball to Roy Williams to save
his life. He couldn't. He couldn't. He got to the point where Roy, when they said enough enough go away, got the point where Romo wouldn't even throw him the ball. And you know you'll say, well, that's on Roy. Wait you know yeh, see that happens. It happens. Let's not forget that the a Romo and I and I'm a Romo fan. I mean, I'm a guy, I'm I was on the staff that brought him here. I'm I'm the guy last year. It's like, hey, they gotta play him,
gotta see what you got, Gotta play him. They never did. Okay, I get it. So I'm not trying to kill Romo here. But he was terrible with with Roy Williams as a receiver. Yea, never never clicked. That was a huge waste of draft assets and money right there. Why do you click with Miles Austin. Miles Austin was a free agent, you kid me. Miles Austin got paid a ton of money. See, Tony's made people money, but he's been able to connect with him. He didn't connect it all with Roy Williams. But see,
we're going through Prescott and days and we're trying. Oh bad, that's present, that's not so clear in your mind. But see, but but Presscott has only been quarterback for two years. We forget that, we forget that. I kind of have a hard time laying at all. On does too, because all the right receivers are struggling. Let me tell you what. And he brought it up. He's talking about scheme. Why is Beasley's decline? Why is Roy Williams? I mean, why
is Terrence Williams declining? Why am I declining? Right? You know, you know, if they if they're having a problem, if there if if the scheme is too if if the if the players are saying the scheme is too easy or too the defenses have figured it out. Well, now it's on Lenahan and Garrett and them say okay, what are we doing wrong? Here is the fact that we are we simplistic? And I ask Garrett this question yesterday and Nat and you could tell me if I'm right
or wrong. Sometimes you can't advance your schemes because your players aren't smart enough. Tom Landry would agree. Sometimes and sometimes your players are too smart that they don't play well. That happens too. But sometimes you think, and I'm not I'm not pointing my favorite dead, but I'm saying I'm let me just really if I could. I'm saying, though you can't know the thing about it is, though, how much can I give my players that they will understand
or am I giving them too much? Rob Ryan? Where they're busting every play and they're making mistakes? You know, is that a problem the the don't don't San Diego run something similar? Trails parts of what we run San Diego. They they totally different. I'm trying to think of the oct who the Los Angeles It's a different cat. Yeah. My deal is this right here? You have you have anxiety football, which the Ford Ninas played. They played they played the West Coast, getting the ball to receive as
quick as possible. Uh, hots and reads are built in. You know, you have to be pretty smart to play for them because everything is built built in. You don't have a blitz period like we do out here. Yeah, you know, they know we've watched Shanahan. We've watched Shanahan, dude, but what did Shanahan need? You know? A quarterback? Yeah, well he was a bag of you know what? Yeah, without a quarterback, Ah soud He's got a quarterback that
can kind of spin it a little bit. Yeah. But the the problem with this offense is as people, uh begin to understand who you are and what you do in certain situations, your execution have to become better your routes. See, it's gonna always go back with wide receivers in this offense. Now they can change schemes and whatever, but in this offense, your routes have to get better, even crisper, and everybody
has to run this thing in concert. You know, you can't never agg I'll never be messing around because it is an execution offense. If we look out there and say, hey, we got we got the beard on Kurt and ain't a way to Kirt can stick the beer, We're gonna weigh you out, brothers with all different routes, but you are limited to what some of these guys can run. That was That was a question that I wanted because when Garrett Um was talking about that, he said that
a lot of offenses are simple. I mean, that's been one of the criticisms. And sure, you just you know what's coming and you can't stop it, and that's what it was like for the nineties. But does there reach a point where you don't have the execution or the players, and that's where you got to change. At that point, I have to change. So you do have to change out to jests, you have to jet, you have to put a wrinkle every you have to put a wrinkle
in even as a different formation. All right, it's a run that looks like a pass, a pass that looks like a run, you know, but coaches are doing that. Now. My question is, and broad as you and aswer this too, how much has Pittsburgh changed in the last four years with the same offensive coordinator? How much have they changed? They're a better running team. They have a better running team. But you know, they handed to Bell, They handed to Bell, but they've got a receiver on the outside and Brown
and they got Smith. Schuster is a compliment, Okay, So that you're going right, well, I need you to go and continue on. Oh sure, because it's about go to the name, and I go to the name and I received Was that scared somebody for Zeke? So that they have the players to keep it simple, where we don't have the players to keep it simples, that we're kind of out. That's what you just said. Don't be scared. Don't ask us just going to completely Yeah, don't ask us.
And it hadn't been the same players for Roethlisberger. He won super bowls with completely different Yeah, but if you go over the last two or three years, it's been a running game. Been the running game. It's been a running game with a so so defense and not so great of offensive line. It's still been having a ton of your brown and in and out. Was the Bryant kid coming in and out depending on a suspension, And on top of that, they would lose bell for every
year for at least four games with a suspension. What I'm trying to tell you is you still have to have players that's willing to work and create a lot of times Mike Irvan ran the same slant, but him and Troy work on different different looks. If the safety of how you gonna hand it to me here? If if if a linebackers over here, how are you gonna hand it to me? If everybody's back, how are you gonna hand it to me? Come on, man, this thing is a work in progress always. But it don't always
come down to the coach. Because I've known some dumb coaches who have had great players and they and they succeed. So when you have a coach that's willing to work with you and give you what you need, not come down to the players. It's always when who is the Super Bowls. The team with the most confident and better players. Confident and better players love it. Good stuff. Man, I wish I'm loving brightest man, because you know, I just do the highlights, Brodsky, the the working bones of it.
I like the show today, Kurt going rot us, just stirring the pot. I owned the take the hand grenade and brow it in every once in a while. Hope the trapt metal doesn't hit me, Kurt said. Man. Kirt calling us selfish brought us because we didn't mind. Our teammates going to the did not. But I was very all right that we gotta go break microphone away from all right, Ron, thanks for joining us. Thank you for the whole year. I know. No, no, no, no, we're
gonna have you craft for the draft. If you're talking, all right, we'll cover. Yeah, we'll come with some drafted. Yes, we're gonna have you on once we go weekend. It starts next week. Yeah, you do some draft talking. We have to call you on the phone to be sweet. Yeah, take a quick break. We'll be right back on hanging with the boys. To me. I enjoyed that too, even though Douglas went to record Garrett right when I was wanting to go to breakfast. I knew I knew it too, but I couldn't do anything listening to get his priority straw already straight, get
your together, yeah, Douglas, Douglas. So we have a special guest on the phone that kind of disowned us once Tony Romo left the team, but we'll forgive her for that. She has called in once maybe twice this season since since Romo departed, uh last year. So, Rachel, are you on the phone. What's up? Guys? What's up? Rachel? How are you hi? Man? How are you guys? Man? We're great? Where your great? Thank you for staying on hold for forty five minutes. That's all Douglas's faulty, all right. He
had to take care of some stuff with coach. So so we how are things out in San Diego? Hot and warm? It's like sounds wonderful. How was Christmas? And it was fun? Yeah? So something cool happened to you about about three or four days ago, and we I wanted to get you on the air and talk about it. So you tweeted out Was it on Christmas Day that
you sent this original tweet? Yeah? So on Christmas I got a new like Romo jersey, and so what I wanted to do was I just took up Romo jerseys like in a row, and I just like tweeted out, so blessed to be like a Tony Romo fan. I just tweeted that out. Yeah, and I'm looking at it and I count twenty seven Tony Romo jerseys that you own. Is that the correct count? Well? So, well, some of
those are actually sweatshirts. I think couple are actually sweatshirts. Okay, Well, you own twenty seven pieces of paraphernalia with or merchandise paraphernalia. That's a different that's a different conversation with Romo and the number nine on the back of it in some form or fashion. Correct. Yeah, Well, I see, that's just the journey I saw have like t shirts and stuff
like that that I didn't post. Okay, so you tweeted that out over over Christmas rite and just in the tweet, the tweet reads just a and you tag Tony Romo. Just a Tony Romo fan, so blessed to be one.
Wouldn't trade that for the world. Well, of course there's a lot of a lot of uh, you know, really strong, powerful people behind the keyboard and behind their phone and stuff, very supportive the sure, Yeah, you started getting pelted with all the Romo haters, right yeah, like A like I don't know, like all these people will just start like anything, all like this backlash, like than just all like these means things to me, and I just like, I mean, it's not the first time I've been like you don't
folded on Twitter. I but I've never get anything about it. So I just thought I just had to do just something about it and just stand up for myself. And what did you do to those people? Were they were calling you mean things, calling you crazy and all kinds of other things. So what did you do when that? I just I just I just made a video because
I just wanted the celebrating that. You know, there's nothing wrong with you know, being a Roma fan, and I shouldn't be being boy just because I posted a photo of just some jerseys that I had Roma, you know. And then so you sent that, you sent the video out, and you started getting a lot of support from from fans and other people. What's your what's your Twitter handle? By the way, zoodi? Oh nine okay? How do you spell that? R I z z u t I okay?
And then zero nine all right? And then you started getting support from from people and people going back at these people that said mean things to you and things like that. And then you got some support from a very surprise special person. And who was that? Tell you? And what? And what did Tony say? I actually I don't have the tweet in front of me, but it tweeted out just like something really like awesome. I bet we can tell me quick. Yeah, you can find something.
And then then he he followed me back on Twitter, which I was not. I think he doesn't followed anyway back when I feel like a blue check mark. So Tony Romo now follows you on Twitter. Yeah, it's pretty awesome. So what what Tony responded, he said, you stay strong, Rachel. They come and they go. You have special qualities that many people can see, even through your Twitter feed. Don't underestimate how many people appreciate you. God has you trust him?
Merry Christmas character? He did the extended characters almost, that's good stuff. Yep. And he only the tweets start crime, Sir Douglas. Yeah, hang on, hang on to it Douglas. So he had tweeted uh the day before, I guess two days before that, and the only time he had tweeted before that was uh uh October the thirteenth of this and he tweeted at you. So that's that's pretty cool. So you and Tony a or twitter homeboy and homegirl then, right,
I guess I mean meet the guy there. Well, hey, I don't think that's too big of a thing to ask now that he follows you on Twitter. So, but now, we just wanted to have you on the show because I know you called in over the years. I know that you're a huge Romo fan, and I know how bad it sucks. I got bullied whenever I was a kid in school growing up because I was physical. Mine was physical. Now, it's mental. Don't know which run words do we know? But uh yeah, we just wanted to say, hey,
we got your back. And people are people. You know, it's really easy to talk trash to somebody whenever you're behind a computer or a phone and you're typing characters. But uh, you know, there's there's no reason for hate and and and people just being downright assholes sometimes, so you don't worry about them, and you you just keep on trucking, you keep supporting Tony. I know, I'm I'm a Tony supporter. I don't own twenty seven pieces of clothing with Tony on it. But I've always liked Tony.
I always will like Tony. And he's just as good of a guy off the field as he was on. So yeah, he's an amazing guy. He's just super high. All right, Well, you gotta start listening to the show again since we had you on, so I got oh, oh yeah, I still listen to listen to I was just like the whole, like every single day to you, like the whole like you know last year. I'm just like one day, Thursday, Friday. Yeah, well every day is
a lot to have to put up with. Kurt, because if you're gonna talk trash to somebody, do it like Shannon face to face. Yeah, yeah, exactly, exactly. Well, Rachel, have a good help, you had a good Christmas half New Year, have a great New Year. Thank you bye, and maybe we'll talk. We'll talk to you soon. Thanks Rachel, Thank you guys. Thanks Douglas for keeping her on hold for forty minutes. Well, I apologize to her before I put her on and I did it on the air too.
You know, I don't understand. I understand that that cyber bully and on both ends, I really don't. I don't understand how you can attack a person, you know, even if you know him, I don't know him personally, and how you how you can receive it, because to me, I would just tell me, well, maybe I'm in the wrong area. So I just I don't know. I can't get with it when I don't know you either way,
I can't. You know. You know, I have people say things about I always show up whatever we're doing, and yeah, you don't do it. I just don't respond. I mean, just see Cole Beasley's tweet a couple of days last week or whatever. It's like when I tweet, people say stay off Twitter, focus on football. And when I don't tweet, there like you never interact with the fans, and you can't win anything. Pulling out a signature loss and then pouring it on his hands. Can't win these days. Well,
I'll tell you what we can win. We can get out of here three minutes early. Why why why would you want it? Why would you You've had a great you leave me, Curtis sUAS, get out of here, man, think wave at him, throw the policide at the beginning, wed shaken sideways, let him know we agree for him to leave. Pick that head set up. I'll tell you what. When I was in there after Jason Garrett finished his interview, Mickey was like, well, let me know if I need to come in there at the end of the show.
He knows where the fun is to be. Well, we're at the end, and I mean I think brought us went so long that there might have been fun to have Mickey and brought us somehow they go at it, Son, they'll just be fun to have him both in. Yeah, yeah, you should have said there. I just I don't know about that cyber bullying though. Man, I'll tell you a story about Nate is he was a guy thought he was going to do some road rage on Nate and drove up next to him and was saying some things
that we can't say on the radio. We're on the internet, you can say it. And Nate looked over at him and just waved him and said, well, go on, brother gave. I didn't get in front of him and lying, yeah, I don't, man, I'm fifty I'm fifty six, and I've lived a hell of a life. I've been blessed in any any way necessary. So people that don't matter, how you gonna make them matter? Right? I don't know you. You pull up next to me. I rolled my winter down.
I think the guy needed some help with something, so I rollan winter down you. Yeah, hmm, it's all right, brother, go let on. I have a nice day. And boy, he just looked at me. Unimportant people. If I make Shannon a Kurt man, I want to know why, Hey, brother, what did I do? Yeah? I don't mean something, but the dude was just walking by out here on a tour. How you doing? Certain well? I hate you? Hey, cool, have a nice day, Hey, God bless you don't make
unimportant people important right now. She got attack evidently about hundreds of people, so she had to do something to stem the tide. But I don't believe in that. If you, if you, if I didn't know you before, and I had to meet you in bad circumstances, and that's only that I'm gonna meet you. Nah. Nah, you don't mean that much that you have a great day. I'm gone. It just don't mean that much. How do you deal with the haters, Kurt? Because I know you got a lot of them. I don't get on. I don't do
social media a whole lot. So you're about to start. I'm working on getting that password. I remember you giving Douglas a hard time for not getting stuff done. Now here you are you talking about five times? I show you the email. I'm waiting on get the email to me. So if it's great you wake up every morning, you know, and you don't have a perky attitude, let it be worth something. I mean, I mean, feel bad, you sick, something just terribly wrong. Let it don't just wake up? Man?
Oh man, the beard didn't tweet what I thought he should have tweeted. Really, you know what I what I found out people that attack other people or people that find out find things wrong with what other people are doing. There's something the part that they hate about that other person. There's a lot of that in themselves. Yeah, really don't like that about themselves, and subconsciously that what they're attacking
is really what they don't like about themselves. But just miserable people, you know, they you know, what do you think about that little Suzy? We got you though? Bro Hey six weeks? I bear with you, man, I ken't playing you didn't? Well, just come on by my man zeke. Well, let's roll on out. Happy New Year, everybody, Happy New Year, Happy New Year? Will every New year? Man? Happy New Year, Douglas.
What day we're going you guys? I think Wednesday is two o clock unless Garrett has something on Wednesday, which we probably won't find out till Monday or Tuesday. Um, but yeah, we'll be What days do we have after that? What do we decide on? Every Monday at eleven? Every Monday at eleven? So you got to get out of bed earlier than you normally, see Kurts, he can get to the office. Me. Wow, I'm not too you know, playboy night. Yeah, Kurts. Kurt's got a bunch of kids
who wake him up. That's true, about fifteen of them bouncing on. When Nate said do you have a son or daughter? I was thinking he's got three of each other, not quite that many. Well, thanks for showing up, Kurt. Thank you, sir. It's like, don't look away from her. Nate, thanks for calling me off guard. Douglas, thanks for doing we guys pulling across the day. Kurt got his pulling across. Yeah, thanks for pushing your selfish name and back next year.
If they don't fire us. In between now and next Wednesday, I'll hanging with a boy. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys dot Com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.
