The Ham Radio two point zero Audio podcast rip. Thank you for downloading and listening to this podcast. So basically what I do is I take all the audio clips out of my videos and upload them to spreaker, and then from there they're spread out to iTunes and SoundCloud and now Amazon Audible as well. But I want to welcome you and thank you for joining the audio section of
this series on Ham Radio. I hope you enjoy it, and I would appreciate you leaving us a comment or a review on whatever podcast service you're listening from. Thank you in seventy three. I hope you enjoy it. Let's right there. Appreciate you guys being here tonight. And uh, okay, there's Frank. Let Frank in here. Y'all think I should let frankin?
He had ape on his stream last hour, so I imagine he's kind of I imagine, Yeah, they can't hear you, Frank on purpose, but I imagine you're you're a little bit tired of you know, regulating, you know, administering and moderating the chat. The I don't know, I don't know, we'll see, but uh, let's just bring you on, Frank. What's going on? Man? I'm the regulator. You're the regulator. Yeah, that's right, That is correct. I don't know the rest of
that. What's up, man? Man? My mind is still processing the knowledge dump we just got from smoking ape on toroids and balance and choking. I'm literally have to choke choking. Who's he trying to choke? We're choking our antenna feedlines? So do you comicret doesn't come back? Why would you choke it? Are you pissed at it? For some reason? You don't want the common mill current to come back? And he got a strangle choking choking that cable, so it the feedback doesn't come back to you? Right,
yes, correct? But but yeah, AP's really good. He yeah, yeah, AP's got an eight ape is full of knowledge. He's he does a really good job with that stuff. I tuned in. I just happened to tune in for the for the part where he said he's talking about Miller Light and I heard his Pappy van Winkle story a little bit, and he's so jealous. I was like yeah, and uh, and he said something about how he and he said something about how he leaves all the flavored
beers for the kids, and I'm like, I guarantee there's more. There's more kids that drink that piss water he drinks than anything else because it's cheap, well less, right now, you know it's all right, it's it's ape. You know you got a little ape. Did you tune in about the forty five minute mark before you got ready for your stream? It was around in there. Yeah, what were you talking about? I'm gonna have to turn off the lights ready ready for this. I didn't I didn't see
I don't think. Oh no, I didn't see that on your stream. No, Michael one of my awesome patreons. I heard you talking about him, but I didn't give box. And these are the cigar sample nice said that he sent me. Oh, I has a chance to win up to five hundred dollars on a scratch off. That sounds like something you should scratch off the I need to check the the message that was one of Michael's friends. Don Thank you for the super chat, buddy, thanks for being here
tonight. But amazing, amazing people. It's uh. The love from our fans and community is great, not just in um Cigars but just overall overall. Absolutely Cigars always appreciate it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and those who are those who are talking about six meters in the chat. Yeah, six meters was really hot today. Chuck got in there. We were we were talking in Discord, and Chuck got in there and said he was doing some sideband on six meters. You said the hell on Discord today, I
saw you. Yeah, yeah, well I was. I made probably fifteen or twenty contact, maybe twenty five contacts on ft eight six meters throughout the day I was working it earlier today, I looked at it and I'm like, oh, it's it's up and running. So I um so I got on there and I made I don't know, five eight nine contacts something like that, and then it kind of died. It kind of died and around maybe two or three this afternoon something now, probably like one or two this
afternoon kind of died. And then I started to go. And then I started getting HAM alerts that Josh was on six meters, and I got a h I actually got a HAM alert that Smoke and Ape was on twenty meter ft eight. So I'm not going to tell you what call SOIGND I saw, but I'm like, oh, that's Ape. So I tried to get
on there and work him. Sometimes. I was like, hey, dude, I got your call, signed got your call SI, but but no, but it then it but then six meters opened back up again around three or four some we're in there because I was getting handlers that Josh was on there and I think I got one from NYO and a couple of other people. I was. I was like, okay, did six meters come back or is it kind of floating around the nation something like that, And I
brought it back up again. It was it was lit up again. So it kind of died for a couple hours this afternoon, then it came back, which is magic band. That's why they called it the magic band. Sometimes it's there, sometimes it's not. But since since we're kind of still talking off the cuff here, yeah, I am going ahead and promote one more time. This is the final week, final week of these whiskey tumblers, uh pre sale, So go ahead and orders yours now. And I
can't wait until we get these in. It's gonna take about a month. I haven't a month from now for about a month to get them to me and then for me to rewrap everything and um get him sent out. But I can't wait to get this order closed and get on to the next one. What is my channel name? Yeah, somebody A couple people are asking what your channel name is? So um number one those of you who are asking at thank you for joining my channel. Obviously we've never been here before,
which is great to have new people in the channel. Go ahead and share it. Go ahead and share the link to your channel. Franks, I'm take Radio. I am Jason's usual a co host on these live streams and uh co host and the many sunanigans that we do together when we get together and do amazing stuff, and coming up we are to going to be going to field Day and we are your channel. Um, then I need to go here because YouTube is stupid. Um. I should have had it
in my show notes the yeah, yeah, you should take Rady. I'm not gonna shout because I just did that on my stream, but um, have you been wearing that icon shirt since uh since Podo weekend? Have you not taken that off since Podo week I like it. You know, if if John Kirk came out, came by and commented on that picture I put it on my Facebook page, Well you know what if John Cook will give us ya Zu SERTs. I will be happy to where he is. Well,
what I told it, he said something. He said something about sorry, you've downgraded yourself. I don't remember. It wasn't something. It was something like that. And I replied back to you when I said, well, two or three of us we're actually using yay Zoo radios a food. Mike was the odd Mike was the odd man out, the only one wanted. Yeah, no, I didn't show that. Actually, the fourth picture I wanted was me and you holding the Yazoo radios. Yeah, the Mike
in the middle with his icon above his head. Yeah yeah, yeah, totally, uh totally so uh. One thing, speaking of upcoming events, This coming Friday, so like five days from now, is the gonna be the Ham Radio Happy Hour for um June. Oh, so that's gonna be Father's Day weekend Friday night. Kyle is going to do trivia at seven in his channel, and then we'll do Happy Hour at eight on this channel right here. So you guys mark your calendars for two or three hours of Ham
Radio funness on the live stream that Friday night. If it is not raining, I think I would be smoking a cigar and I'll sit out the outside studio and do it all outside. It's good idea. I need to Um. Yeah, I don't know, but I will not be able to do that. I could just smoke in the shack. I've smoked in the shack a bunch, but never on the live stream, so I haven't smoked in
the shack and a lot. I originally built the shack to be a cigar room, yes, but when I when I did the build out of the interior and the insulation and the sheet rock and everything, I did it to be a cigar room. And I've smoked in it for a while. I'm a big fan up there, and everything's kind of loud, but but I haven't really. I've smoken it in a couple of times since i've had radios in it, but not very often, not very often. But it's all good, all right. Tonight we were talking about the s bit X,
and those of you who don't know, I still got that going. That's good. UM. This is a radio that I picked this up at him vention and four days in May, more accurately, four days in May. It is um It's an SDR transceiver. This is a forty wat version. It's what they're calling V two or version two, and it's made by a company called HF Signals dot Com. And that's um, that's this link I'm sharing, or this this page I'm sharing right now, so you can follow
that link there you can breed about the the sped X two. They it comes in three different versions. You can buy it. You can buy it fully assembled, you can buy it without a raspberry pie it uses a Raspberry Pie four, or you can buy it as kind of like a kit. And it doesn't come in this really nifty case. And and Shara, the guy who designs it, he's like, well, you can put your own
put it in your own case. And I'm like that doesn't sound like fun at all to try to get a case that might fit it, and something like that. So I bought the one without the raspberry pie at at him vention or four days in May, because I already already have a few Raspberry Pie fours just laying around. Um. By the way, the Raspberry Pie four is going for a lot of money these days, and I've offered several
times on the channel. Um, anybody who wants to trade me a brand new IC seventy six ten for a couple of raspberry pie form certainly willing to do that. M So you guys just let me know, don't don't try to lowball me. I know out I've got so that's how they But um, but yeah, so the the spit X uses raspberry Pie four and it does all the things. In fact, it says right here, where did
I go? I think I missed that. Let's see, if I go, I've read something that I wanted to reread online or on the air rather on the brief specification. Okay, so the frequency is five hundred killer hurts to thirty mega hurts, and it transmits on all the bands forty watts on eighty to twenty thirty wats on the higher bands. Um, let's see two VFOs. Band stacking is four frequencies modes on each band. Modes are upper and lower sideband CWCW reverse. I'm gonna have to get somebody explained to me
what CDW reverse is. One of these days, no CW reverse, So I'm not asking right now. It's not the topic of tonight's but I noticed it's on It's on my FTDX tent. I was I dropped down to c w N a yo is working CW poda that at that Plaque event weekend a couple of weeks ago. So I dropped down the frequency he was on and I could barely hear him, and I'm like, I should have brought my CWQ to to send CW back to him and just make him laugh. So
but I did. A CWN CW R CW reverse is a thing, and I don't know what it's used for, so we'll talk about that later though. Riddy forty five, PSK thirty one and FT eight with on display decoding and sending two tone test signal for immodulation testing and PEP measurements. Built in
n one mm logger. Built in logger within one mm format, MACROS auto incremental exchange, number of contesting record your QSOs and wave format files so it'll do voice recording fl DIGGI, UM, let's see up to forty watts connects to RBN and DXL. It has a spotter on it. It says down here, it says, uh, it had a spot it has. It comes with a spotter, so you can set up a spotter to do a auto spotting on it, which is kind of fun. So it's a neat
little radio. Um. I bought the very first version, which is right here. This is let me switch my camera back again, get a little bit better view. Here. This is the very first version, which is much larger. This is the developer version, what they call and it had yeah, yeah, it does. It looks like an old TV. It had some issues with the finals early early on the early early versions. And I have a brand new set of finals right here that I never have installed.
And I think I'm gonna. I think I'm gonna. My plan was to always get back into this and rebuild it. And you guys know how I am about building stuff unless it's an unless it's a vehicle, an engine
or something. I don't do much building. So I think I'm gonna sell this one because I've got the new V two So if anyone's interested in purchasing this for a reasonable price, let me know if you are interested in It has a pie four already in it also, So that's the original version and then the new version, the V two version is right here, and I've taken it apart because the um, the pie goes right here like this turns upside the riser board on the pie right here. Sits right there. Uh
did you have to build that or no? This was it? This? It all came like that. I Um, it came with this said. This is the this is the top of it. Okay, so if I put it together like this, it's this thin. See the old one was way larger. So this is this is the built in speaker. It's this. Then it's got that really nice heat shrink on the back of it. Heat shrink heat sync on the back of it is what I'm trying to say.
Okay, So it's it's smaller, it's more compact, it's uh got more stuff finite and um got more ability with it, I should say. So I thought it'd be fun, a fun thing to do to Uh. I mean, it's not building a kit. It's not really that way. I mean it's it all comes pretty assembled always. All I gotta do is put a raspberry pie in into it. So we're gonna put the pie in tonight and I'm gonna boot it up and it comes with where's my stuff here?
It comes well, it comes with this microphone right here, which is the three point five millimeter jack on the microphone, and it comes with it comes with this cable with this uh what are these called EC four or MC four connect and not MC four that's the that's a power cable H for I. I seem to like as RC battery cable R. Yeah, it's some kind of RCRCUM RC remote Control Car World something like that. But I'm seeing
more and more stuff like that. The cool thing about it is, and I didn't realize this until a couple of hours ago, this is my cable for my new FX FOURCR from BG two fx dot com, which is the video that will premiere on this channel tomorrow afternoon to three thirty pm Texas time. So my new yeah, I don't have it here with me, it's
inside. But my new uh FX FOURCR uses this same type of cable, and the old version and the new version of the x FX four c use the same type of cable, and now this one used this, So it comes with this cable this it's this connector on one end and bare wire on the other end. Secret power poles unit or was X one sixty I think that sounds XT sixty. XT sixty down says, yeah, XT sixty,
that's right. There's an XT ninety. That's a little bit larger. I think there's an XT like thirty or forty or something that's a little bit smaller, but XT sixty that's the one that that is. So there's different sizes whatnot, but that XT sixty one is getting a little bit more popular in the ham radio world. I've seen three or four different radios use it,
so that's pretty cool. That is universe. It didn't have some proprietary plug that you've never seen before, kind of neat my UM A couple of my power station um Eco flow power stations have come with the have this type of connector for the input of the solar panel. So I've got several UM cables with this ext XT sixty connector on it that goes to either MC four from
UM solar panels or maybe power poles for solar panels. So so getting a little bit more popular than the hand radio world, which is kind of fun. And then oh, I'm sorry, And the side of this bag here which you'll you'll see here more in the moment. It's comes with a with a three point five millimeter jack for to put on something maybe a headphones or something. But the most important part it comes with this preimaged microSD card right
there. Oh yeah, so all I gotta do is install the pie, put this in the pie and boot it up and supposedly it'll come right up. And then, um, somebody in the chat earlier was saying that I should do an update, which I was already planning to do anyway, because that's the first thing you always want to do. And it's got but it's got this pretty cool manual with it that is very easy to follow. I read through the manual earlier today. Um, it's pretty easy to follow.
It tells you basic operation, how to power it up, you know that kind of nonsense like that, like some some people they need that. But uh, you know how to operate a band stacked VFOs, the receiver internet tuning, the writ right there, bfo A and b split operating right here. So and then in the very back here it says, um, like the last three or four pages says installing the Raspberry Pie. So if you get a version without the Raspberry Pie, the manual tells you the steps to
install a Raspberry Pie. And the quick and short of it is you just take a pie, put your micros D card in it that comes with the kit plug, it in and then box the thing back up, so it just it just uses the riser board right there. So that's what we're gonna do tonight. Um that is um too easy, too easy? Too easy. Yeah, So you install this d card h in the rise of board and this is essentially the pie is the hat in this situation because you're connecting
most to a larger to this huge board right yeah. Yeah, yeah, this massive board right here has the pie connection on it and pull it in yeah yeah. Is this a kit or a pull and play here? It's well, you know, it comes fully so so one option is you can buy it fully assembled. Yeah, and he has and this is this this as it this sits right here is three hundred and ninety nine dollars on his website. He had it for three eighty at four days in May, so
I saved twenty bucks. The the version that comes with the pie was one hundred dollars more. Now in today's in today's world, a raspberry pie four for one hundred dollars is a good price. I mean they're fifty five sixty dollars boards on a normal day. But if you go on Amazon, you want to buy one today? Ill on Amazon, they're like one hundred and eighty bucks. So one hundred bucks for Raspberry Pie four is a little bit
high. If you want to stock Microcenter and just camp outside and wait for their shipments every week, you can find a brand of Raspberry Pie four when they come in. They get like four in a week or something like that, and you can get one for fifty five or sixty bucks something like that. But I mean, who has time for all that? So so one hundred bucks one hundred dollars more to buy the fully assembled tested you just plugged in booted up kit, you know, because you know they do testing on
it now this one, this one. The paperwork that I got with this one said they tested this one as well. But yeah, so I could have spent four eighty on a kit with that was ready to go, plug and play, just plug it in and go. I spent three eighty on this at four days in May, and it didn't include the pie. But if you look on their website, it's three ninety nine for this one, and I assume it's four y ninety nine for the for the fully assembled one.
I didn't look at the fully assembled one on their website, but that's they were. They were one hundred dollars difference at four days in May and at him benched this year. So let's see get my screwdriver out here. But yeah, so uh so people that if there's any questions or anything or comments or whatever in the chair, you know, we can, yeah, go ahead and go through those. When when Jason's doing this and working, I'll be watching the chat and looking for eighty questions. I'm gonna see if
anyone answered the inverse cw ah CW reverse. So if you know what cwse is and can easily say it in a sentence that I can read, then go for it. Yeah, scrolling up, So what screws are you taking off here? So there's these to mount the pie secure it to the board? Correct, Yeah, So there's four riser posts on the board where you where you mount the four holes in the raspberry pie that down the corners there do do so it comes with the screws on the riser post. So I'm
taking those out and then I'll actually turn this video froze. Oh yeah, you're right, sometimes it does that. I need to I need a new capture card, I think. So let's go here, let's go there there we go. Soon says, that's a belly button screw driver. Tell me, yeah, tell me if he does that again. You're just focusing on your hands. But that's fine, that's fine. Tell me tell me if it does that again. Um, it doesn't generally do that when I go
live, but I'm testing it does. So what I'm gonna do is, I'm gonna actually put the raspberry pie what I would consider to be upside down because the rat because the pie the riserboard on the pie here, you're you're normally correct, you're ye, yeah, and then the and then the screen will go here, so it'll be mounted upside down on a normal uh, on a normal day when it's here. And then of course this is the
outlets for the pilets on the pie itself. So Ed said, I wonder if Charlie would know about reverse c W. Don says, reverse c W mode is the c dovis you know, which a reverse side of the CW carrier point like a lower upper side MS. So they're taking advantage of the lower and up bird CW. Okay, Robert rittenhouse Don says, we all
googled the same thing. That sounds about right, Yeah, Robert rittenhouse CWR mode of the reverse to the CLB signal with the reverse side of the CW carrier point the like a lord and upper sideband MOS use when interference signals are near a desired signal and you want to change the interference tone. Makes sense? Okay, all right, So now, so I got the SD card put in when gently dropped this thing down in there, Hold on, I don't it's not in there right there. We go, okay, very very
nice in there, and now we go there for the screws. Yeah, this is this is not much of a build. This is not a true kit build like when we build a couple of last antennas. And so Bill Ham Radio Tectonics, those of you who were on my email is today I shared Bill's video where he didn't do a build video of the of the new
QMX, but he did a menus. He went through the menus he built the new QMX kit that he got from four days in May, and then he um did a video like a little three minute video about here here's what the menus looked like. And I shared that video on my email today. So that was kind of good. I was, like, I replied to him, and I said, hey, how was the building. He's like,
it was actually kind of challenging. So I'm like, okay, well, so this is like he assembled in America or some assembly acquired just right this screw it there and it's assembled. I did not get the riser in correctly. So now you're talking about the the forty eight or forty I forgot how many pins that is, right, or you're talking about the standoffs.
So there's a there's a forty forty six forty a pin whatever it is on the Raspberry Pie that's plugging into the riser on the main board here, and I got to make sure I get it squarely in there, which I just did. It wouldn't square I got there's two pins, and I got it one pin off just a second ago. So now I'm not I'm not pressing it down or forcing it in or anything, so it's fine. I just
kind of gently lifted it out and put it. And now now the screws, the screw holes, and the riser posts are lined up together, so we're thickly um Jay Baker. According to the Pale Foundation, the sort is that the puss should be ending soon. Ahage sentment of eight. I hope, so a hundred thousand a month should be starting later this buff with plans to ramp up to a million units a year. That's excellent. That is excellent. That is excellent those I know a lot of people would be happy
about that. I've been drinking some Mitchell for some reason, I can read after a good nott a finger and a half. U don't know why. Yeah, um, there was another um discord combat Kilo oscar for uniform X ray. Charlie says Jason, At what point do we reach critical saturation of pies for amateur radio projects? That's a good question. Well, it's it's the pie is a great and was a cheap project board that doesn't require a lot of power that we could take to the field and just pick up.
And it's a common starting point for a lot of projects. So if you need simple, easy processing power and the majority of people write this stuff in Python and pythons garbage, Yeah, it's easy to do that, and I agree and understand why it's commonly used in a lot of amateur radio projects. Could we get away with something simpler and cheaper? Yes? About at that point, starting to look at custom building your own PCB boards, which a
lot of us don't want to do. They just want to hook up with some hardware and get some pinouts and run them to the thing and run that to a different pin in and and the pies are very very awesome project board to just pick up and do that with. We we with the sortage got hit with every other industry that was lying on pies and pie like projects.
Oh yeah, yeah, destroyed the market and availability radio doesn't use much as many as some others industries do. Okay, So I read through the instructions before we started, right down, right down, I'm agreeing with my dyslexia. It gets better. I read the read through the instructions where I started this, and I forgot. I'm start to connect this cable. So there's an extra cable, oh on the bottom of this thing and the blue side of it here, So that's the ribbon cable full day video. Right.
What was the sticky thing that you pulled off? Is it was? It was taped? It was, Yeah, it was taped down here so it wouldn't all flopping around in the box. That's all it was. So it's just a piece of tape and ribbon cable needs to go in light Solely, you're wrong, completely wrong done. Um, you are half right with C plus plus. Um is not is a terrible language. At least we agree on the C part solely. On the other hand, likes his Python and that's why he's wrong. Um, Larry h C plus plus and C is
just C plus plus that could be caused by C plus. I lost it. Yeah, Um, all right, let's get get away from the the the programming languages. Uh, Tomato fight Ham Ham Ham Radio Court Ham Court. No, No, we're just having fun. But I know, I know. No Python is popular in Linux programming, well, well PE programming, I should say no, No, Python is. It's Kurt. The name comes from Monty Python and it's been around before the even them high.
And it's great for, um, doing quick and dirty things repetitively on servers and form it managers, setting up computers and things. And they're great for scripting. But when you use it for an actual running program that's doing things over and over and over again, not just a one time thing, that's where it breaks down. In my book, Um, it's kind of good for a first learning language, but don't rely on too heavily because you're losing
some of the you don't get a lot of the object oriented stuff. The syntax stuff with it is syntax is funky. I can keep going on, but I'm a programmer. But we're talking about him radio. So how's it going, Jason? We're talking about him radio? All right? So I got the I got the uh little of a ribbon cable connected, got the riser board seated back. Is that ribbon cable bent a little bit? Or
is that off? The I forgot how that hooks into the pie. It just it just it's it's kind of like a port in the back where you pull up this little connector thing and just gently uh inserted in there and then uh clamp it down so it's not a big it's not a big deal. And then um, after you did that is for simple screws. After you see the correct the forty eight pin um jumper and outpins things. Yeah, the yeah, the pin out or the riser pin out, whatever it's called.
It's a riser on this board. It's it's just called a I don't know what it's called. Connect. I was about to get booted out of discord A kilo oscar for uniform x ray Chango saying Java rules you I do have of admin rights here? Somebody. I was about to go to time out. Somebody's messing with you. Oh even we're doing Android apps at work and I'm just looking at Android syntax. I'm like blow blow, yeah, and I can go into another ant, but I am going to off my
soapbox. We don't care. Um, All right, here we go, So let's talk about the project here. Yeah. Um, still working on screws. Yep. I got them all in there. I just want to make sure they're seated in there correctly. Okay, can you give us a good focus? So can we see what's going on here? Let me see if I can change that. Because when you're working with your hands. Oh that's that's that's good there, all right? Okay, so yeah, I
know I know the eyes. So what's this? Briefly point at um with your screwdriver what you did here to high So I I I mounted the pie right here after putting the ribbon cable on. Okay, that's the s the microst card which you could put that in last if you want to do. It's right there on the back. It's just gently snugly, not gorilla hands, but you know, snugly. Get these screws down, and then the ports are out the back here, and then when I took the cover off,
originally there were three. There's another ribbon cable here which goes right there, and there were two others. That's next to the pie, not on the pie, that's correct. Yeah, it's next to the pie right there, co hosting, okay, And then there's two No, there's three other ones. There's three other ports for various items. Um, I think sound is one of them. I think I don't know what all they are. It says in the manual what they are. I don't. I just don't
remember. And no, but but no, but there's one here, one here, and one here, and then the ports on the board just kind of match it. It's just kind of I just took them off like two hours ago, so I just kind of remember. But just pay attention when you when you take them apart, and you should be able to be should be okay, it's not that big video. And one of the two of
them are two pins and one of them is three pins. So it's obvious which one the three pen goes to because it goes through the three pen port on the board. So that's that one right there, and then that one right there. Cool. Cool, that's lost focus again. Okay, let's see. Yeah, my focus does that when it's uh TC fits. Thank you for the super chat dollars, Happy Sunday, He says that deserves a drink right there. Yep, yep. He swung by and dropped me some
money too on my stream. You're amazing. Yeah, yeah, thank you for being out there. TC fits all right, um yeah, okay, So that's what that looks like. There. It's got these feet on it here and here and two on this end. And I took the feet off not knowing exactly which screws I needed to take out. It doesn't tell you how to disassemble it in the manual M but once you figure it out,
it's it's actually pretty darn simple. So and I'll show you. I'll show you the screws that you need to disassembl it and reassemble it here in just a second. So I've got all the ports back in, put it down like this. Uh nope, oh, let's see, get it on there squarely. Here we go. Just dude, I love that it's awesome. Yeah. Yeah, So there's so there's two screws here, and there's two
screws on the bottom here and here I put these two back in. There's two screws here and two screws here, and you pretty much have to take this side out because this side is where your BNC is. So you can't take just the front off and pull it out because the BNC is connected. Um, well, you can take the front off, but not the back. So it's easier to take all four screws out and lift this piece out
because this whole piece, this whole end piece right here comes off. So I found it easier to do that, but you know, whatever you want to do, and the same trip thing is true for this side. This is the power button. Obviously, you can take two screws, two screws here out and lift this whole piece out as well, so it comes completely apart. So you notice the other side the other connectors will one time where
well the B and C and the piepoorts. Oh yeah, so there's a pieboard right there, B and C for the for the ntent obviously, and that's the that's the ports front on the Raspberry Pie four. Okay, cool, that's pretty cool. That's that's pretty easy. Yeah, and look at that heat sink. I'm back, I know it. Yeah, well it's forty watts, which is not QRP. So a lot of a lot of times these radios are cure. Hey, you know what you can do with a footy radio, turn it down to five watts and you get cuts.
That's right, same thing you can do with radio. But yes, that's that's absolutely true. So okay, turning that down. I want to get those in their snug but not too too tight. Um. A couple of people are worrying, think that you might have the ribbon cable backwards, but I don't. According to this, here's what we uh, here's what we see right here. So it says insert the SD card and it has a picture of the ribbon cable with the blue pointed this way, which is how
I put it down. So yeah, if I boot it up and it doesn't work, then I can open it up and switch it ed. I'm always a barefoot. I wish I could be barefoot more, but yes, um, it would be interesting. I feel backwards, the screaming me backwards. It's not how it works though probably it's not how it probably won't give me video at all. In fact, you know what, let's just go ahead and boot it and see if I've got video before I put all the
screws back in this right. Here is your extra internal speaker here. I don't I forget what this is is. I think that's just an airport. So, um, I've got oh gosh, mine is serial number one zero nine. Somebody somebody at the show. Several of us bought these at the show. Somebody got I think it was n Yo. He got serial number zero seven three, and I'm like, that's not fair. I want that. So yeah, I think it was I think it was NYO that got. I don't remember now though, So okay, um okay, so let
me show you my super special Denco battery. Don't you wish you had a Denco battery? Yes, yeah, I have a Denco back You don't. You don't have a Denco battery. I don't. I I was playing with batteries this weekend. I got twenty four volts out of the battery. Nice. Well, I mean, I guess nice if it's if that's what you want. And there was no smoke. Um Don says that the chat smoke incoming. Yeah, yeah, probably so so don um Denko gave you one
of those yellows or did you create a wire with it? What the the the the yellow power plug it's not powerpol No, it comes with the In fact, the one it comes this is the one. This is the one for my FX for C. Okay, I'm just using the same because I've already built the power uh power poles the on the FX for C. This is the one that comes with the s bid X. It's the same cable. In fact, I think this is probably like fourteen gage wire here,
maybe twelve twelve or fourteen gage wire. And this is the next side. This is like ten gage wire here. So this is the one that comes with the FX for C. Is actually bigger wire. So I'm just using this because this is the same exact plug, and I've already put power poles on this one. So I'm just you know, universal plugging. This is what a concept. So that is a thing, all right. So let's now it's sitting on the heat sync right now. It's really supposed to sit
this way because that's where the feet are. Um but um, you know, okay, so it was on when I plugged it in. I saw a flash. It flashed. It didn't really do anything. Oh oh oh oh, there's a high square. Yeah, and and the got a cursor flashing right there. All right, all right, I think it's the Arabbic cables are happy. I think so, you know, Don the only one at a time. I think he was telling talking to me about the batteries. Yeah, I put two twelve bolts batteries in series. Get twelve bolts.
Figure that twenty four volts. Okay, and there we are. So another really cool thing about this manual is it says, well, this is a pretty There's there's no fluff in this manual. There's no DTA, it's not much detail. But I like that. I don't like an It's like, okay, well here's what sideband is, and then it gives you, like it like a thirty year history on what sideband. It just tells you how to do stuff. So I thought the manual was very straightforward, very
easy to follow. That kind of thing tells you how to do FT eight right there. Look at that PSK thirty one and Riddy and DX spotting clusters. I'm gonna I'm gonna be interested to see how to self spot myself with this radio. That'd be kind of cool. So updating, updating the sped X is what I was gonna So attach a physical keyboard. Oh I didn't crap. Okay, you're fine. Uh. Being an open source software, the expedex is frequently the updated with more features, modes, et cetera.
While it's not necessary for you to update all the time, you surely would benefit from having the latest version agreed. Okay, attach a physical keyboard connects to the sped X Internet through the Wi Fi ethernet blah blah blah. Is it touch screen or not? I thought it was touch screen. Let's see. Yeah, it is touch screen. Very nice. So turn on Wi Fi okay? Um, go away or no? Turn off Wi Fi should say turn on Wi Fi okay. And it's only showing me my five g
connections. It's not showing me my two point four that's interesting. Oh there it goes, there goes. It just needed time to refresh. Okay, So it's usually the other way around, I know it. Yeah, QRZ is my two point four giga Hurts network my router, and QST is my
five gigger Hurts network. We can't see the screen it's blown out. But okay, well, well I don't want you to see the password I type in anyway, so well, so so attach a physical keyboard, connect to the Internet through Wi Fi or Ethernet from the top panel, tap on the terminal icon. From the terminal icon, moving the spn X forworder by type and CD sped X center. Okay, change directory, run the update script, which is dot forward slash update. Okay. That's simple, simple,
simple, simple. Okay. So that's what we're gonna do. And um if I had thought about it further, I would have connected a um an HDMI port to this thing. That pie has an hdum I port in it. But you can't yet. I wonder if that's how I wonder if that's I wonder if you can get to the Yeah, but it doesn't have it. It's not on the side. It's it's on the side. It's not exposed. So let me open this panel here and see what's underneath here, because I wonder if you can get to it from this way. But you
have to open up everything and to run the HDM my cable out. Yeah, yeah, which normally you wouldn't want. It's gotta it's gotta When you're in the field operating, you don't really care about that. But you know gigaparts lovesby. Yeah, there's so the Oh so we got we got micro H, we got usbc H, micro hd M my times two and the three point five millimeter Jack. I forget what that is. That might be a um yeah um son. So there you go, right, that was
supposed to be a secret. While you're telling everybody, so password is tank radio? It is not that actually, No, No, let's tank radio with the emust on either side. Yeah. I don't like to crash my network, so I did. I wouldn't put that as a password. Um. But that's kind of nice plate there. But on the other hand, why wouldn't they just expose it to begin with, Well, when you're in the field operating, because they advertise this is a soda Poda field radio,
which okay, okay, I'm gonna take it to Poda. I can tell you right now that's exactly what I'm gonna do with it. It seems a little fragile for a soda radio to me. I don't think I would want to pack this thing in a backpack unless I get some kind of specialized case for it, which would be bulky and maybe heavy and I don't know, stot, but yeah, but you're not gonna be You're not gonna be plugging an HD my monitors while you're operating in the field. Yeah, so I
can kind of see. I'm I'm okay with that. I'm okay with that. At least they put a port over here where you could access it pretty easily. Yeah, you know, so I can't. I can't complain with that, all right, So here, um, I want to know if I can plug in Hold on a second, look, I wonder if it'll take my my wireless WiFi keyboard. Now the chat saying they think it's one or the other to use that ribbon display or the HD on my port the same time at the same time. That's a good that's a good point.
So that's a good point. Limitation on the pie it's PIE then I will understand why they don't expose it seems like it seems like on a PIE four, with as advanced as a PIE four is for a single or computer, you would have you could use both at the same time. But that's a very good point. That's a very good point. It will do both HT and my points at the same time. But they don't know about the rubbing cable butt. Well, yeah, that's that's that's a good point from it.
That's that's a very good point. So okay, okay, I'm good with that. I mean, um, come on, usb A. There we go. Now, let's see if that works. So I'm plugged in my wireless keyboard. H my mouse is working. You probably can you see that mouse moving around the screen right there here? Okay, we got it all right? Good, So I'm gonna connect to I'm gonna connect to my can No, it's blown out. It's blown out. Okay, good, I don't want you to see that screen because I'm about to type my password
in. Actually I'm gonna I'm not gonna take any chances with some of these guys are so oh shoot, I can't move them out. I can't move the mouse. I can't move the mouse on my on my streaming computer now because I unplugged my mouse in my keyboard. Hold on, I got a second mouse here, So I'm gonna yeah, I've strained troubles. We're doing it live. We're doing it live. It's a live There we go, Hey, look at that. So I got two my two pieces that look
the same as Google Alert thunderstorms coming in. Dude, it looks like rain outside here in the backyard. I had some really dark clouds. I was I was planning on watering my yard tonight because it needs it. It was supposed to rain, supposed to thunderstorm yesterday, and I was like, shoot, man, I need the water. I guess I'll have to water tonight. But now that it looks like they're storms rolling in, so so if we oh yeah, uh so, if we if the stream just suddenly stops
for no reason, it will be because we've lost power. So all right, y four or fifteen says he got my tank radio tea sir yesterday. I appreciate it. Man, come and see me at a half fest. I would give you some stickers. Thank you very much. I appreciate it. Why is it glare on that thing? Here we go, Okay, hide characters, Okay, good, all right, let's connect to Wee Fee and his password is tank radio is awesome, the most amazing sidekick that he can ever have. Yeah, we need a triple his pay. Yeah we
should triple your pay, Bump Bob. That's what Luke DFW looks like all the time. No, that is the traffic map all the red not Actually, yah, Dallas is much much better than Los Angeles. Not even compare not in no comparison. Yeah, yeah, um okay, So I put the password in. It still says Waveland zero, w land zero not associated. So Ethernet zero link is down. W Land zero is not associated. But you have the password though, So we're gonna wait and see if this
connects or not. We've got the wrong mouse. So do you have Wi Fi out in your shack? Are you connected to the house's Wi Fi? I'm connected to the house is WiFi? Okay, but I connect Wi Fi like I'm all, I'm all Ethernet. I can plug in Ethernet if I need to. There's a there's a twenty five or sixteen port switch underneath the desk back there, so I could run an Ethernet cable if I need to. I was just wondering, just just I can usually get get into Wi
Fi from out here, although sometimes sometimes it's not so reliable. So I'm gonna I'm gonna sit there and wait and see if that Wi Fi connects, and if not, then I might go and grab. I'm not sure if I have an Ethernet cable here or not. Phillip says, triple zero is still zero. He knows my rate too well. Um, James, super chat for ten dollars. Thank you, thank you, thank you for interesting radio. Thanks. You know what they are. They are interesting radios.
And the cool thing is and this this, this is stay with me here for a second. So this guy created a shar he his name's a shar If. I'm saying that right. Uh. He creates this s bid X. He's got the U bid X and the bid X and these the several QRP Raspberry piestyle radios. And he creates this first spied X a year year
and a half ago something like that. And the first couple of versions of it were had some small, minor issues that he corrected pretty quickly, and then you know, but they were big and bulky and not very heavy, but just kind of like a large rate. So the fact that I saw a brand new version at Hamvention this year, four days in May, and him I was impressed by it. I was like, you know what that
okay, So he's continuing with that project. He is made upgrades to it advancements to it, and I'm like, okay, four days in May twenty twenty four, if he has a new version, probably picked that one up too, because it's just a it's just a neat it's just a neat project. So I just a good point for the chat V E five s A R Jody, Yeah, says is that a metal case? If it is, the Wi Fi would be pretty bad, yes, and I thought about
that as well. However, our Wi Fi just connected, so now I've only got one bar, but the Wi Fi router is in is through the house in the garage over there, and um so there there you go. Okay, so we're gonna try to gonna try to open up a terminal window. There we go, and we're gonna go to CD. What it did it say? CD SDEX what's the directory? Win you, Shane, I'd rather be stuck in Dallas. That's stuck in La damn right, CD s vdex enter. Okay, so, uh can you can you see that black
screen there a little bit? A little bit, We're going to take your word that what you're doing CD sped X. So So I'm now I'm in Now I'm in the sped X directory. It it looks like it is UM. It's hard to tell. It looks like it's it's logged in his route already. I see a dollar sign, so I think it's logged in his route already. Well the sign is um. Just where the cursor is at. Well, what's the There's there's a there's a there's a character that means
you're root or not route. There's the tilty. It means you're in the home directory. If you type that's where it was when I went to, uh, type what who, they'll tell you who you're logged in as who. I'm logged in as PIE. I don't know if that so you're not su pseudo or yeah. You have to look up and see what the pseudo password is for it. So okay, all right, Well it doesn't say that I have to be route to run this update. It says change directories to a spedex, which we did, and it says, uh, just
um type type in update, So let's do that. Don corrected who am I? I thought it was that? Who am I? I thought it was who am I too? Yeah, I just I almost said that. Okay, So it says so it's thinking right now, there it goes there, it goes. It's funny. You can see the tech Yeah, you can see that. So what commanded you type? There? Uh dot forward slash, which means run under this directory update Just the word update, that
was it. So yeah, that was probably an update script there. That's just yeah, yeah, it says, it says, it says run the update script. Note the dot before the forward slash for dot forward slash update, which just means run the update uh script in this in your current Windows users. Yeah, I know forward slash. I know dot forward slash, so I'm familiar with that one. All right, we're back to the prompt
already. Good good good, Okay, So now we're there and um database is intact compiling a sped x version two v two dot zero in homepie sped x. Okay, all right, blah blah blah blah blah, unpacking downloading something from GitHub dot com. Yeah, so it's just doing the whole update. So that might take us. But it says, it says, error, Your your local changes to the following files will be over written by merge
data forward slash hw underscore sendings dot II. Please commit your changes are stashed in before you merge and then it says aboarding what So I don't know if that actually it's a git pull. So it says you're you're what. Yeah, this doesn't make sense. So I don't know if that actually updated or not. No, it did not, So you're giving You're getting a get error saying that you're you got changes locally that are in the repo, and
it's stopping you've been doing anything. This is why it gets horrible. Um, but why is it doing a get thing here? Um? I don't know. Uh, I gotta look at my get commands. Yeah, see, I don't know if it tells me. I wonder if okay, me thumb through the manual and see if I've got a a super user or a sudo password. It wouldn't surprise me if it was just either spit x or Raspberry or something can't or just trying to If you want to do pseudo and
run that script, then that run that script super user. Uh, that might work. I did uh super use a space stash Ellen. It's wanting a password, okay, so let's do pseudo update. It's gonna ask me for a password though, well no, okay, it looks like it's going maybe maybe the pie maybe the pie user is a super user. I'm curious because I feel like it might give us the same error here. Yeah, I'm I'm thinking, So Scott says, does it do APRS? Uh no, it does not do APRS? All right? So I see a prompt.
What's it saying? All right? So here? Uh yeah, same error? Please commit your changes or stashed him before you merge a boarding what m So, I'm gonna take it. I'm gonna take a picture of this and I'm gonna send it to a char And I don't think he's He's not in the chat as he I'm sure he's not. It's probably like three am where he lives. Okay, do we know where the get directory is? Uh? Hold on, I'll tell you. You mean inside of this this? Uh yeah, if you want to play with it or if you want
to wait for him. No, I don't think that I want to do I don't think I want to play with it. No, Okay, uh Data forward, slash, HW underscore settings, dot INI that's um do a l LS space stass L list everything. Do we see a dot get Probably at the top of the director You might have to scroll up dot get negative all right, so there are no there are no, there are no directories inside of this director. At this point, I will have to tear into
the script to see where that get directory is to clean it. I think Mike has the rights get stashed stas stash all so that will just stash everything. Um, why's it messing with a get repo? I don't know, but it's pulling from get hub already pulling from get hub. Yeah, he keeps that's where you upload the updates too. Yeah yeah, but there's nothing in the update instructions that say about stashing anything or blah blah blah. And
I was just looking for a version. Now, Mike, we cant until we're in the right directory in order to get to the right director, where you have to tear the script apart and figure out where it's trying to do that command from. I was thinking about a get reset, a hard reset, and just blow everything away and then let the script do its thing. Oh okay, I so I I owe a Hawk. I owe a Hank. I'm sorry about that. Uh he was talking earlier like he owned one.
I assume you own one, dude, and I assume your name is Hank. I'm gonna call you, Hank. He says. The pseudo password is HF one two three five, so I didn't have to type it password into for pseudio command though. When I tell when I type super user space dash ll, it asked me for a password, but our space dash L when I typed sudo space update, it did not ask me for a password, and it tried to run the thing, Jody, but good get commanded
picking up the reset hard. That just nukes everything locally, and yeah, the branch, I'm not going to do that. You try app update, but app update won't fix if a get changes the app get update. Yeah, at our pseudo app update, pseudo app update, they changed app dash get to app just app update. Is that? I think I've read that somewhere somewhere. Um, there's a difference. I read it once. It was minor. I think one affects the other, so it doesn't matter much,
but it will not correct the get hub issues. Well, I'm gonna run pseudo app update. Okay, archive dot Raspberry pie dot org Debbian buster in release thirty two la la okay, So Debbian busters what it's running, and it looks like it's trying to download something right, Well, that that's the updates, but that's not going to fix. It's the OS update. Yeah, but it's not the Yeah no, no, you're right, it's
not gonna pick the repo. No, no, of course not. But still h Hawk says, yes he owns one, and talk to you about the stream at Dayton. Okay, Iowa Hank. I'm sure that you went by a different name then, but okay, it's it's hard to keep sure. Yeah yeah yeah, YouTube, YouTube names, call signs and real names sometimes don't translate my head. I'm sure if you walked up to me right now and shook my hand, I knew exactly who you were doing. Remembers name, yes, yeah, faces, faces and yeah, and I'm sure
he didn't have a name tag that said Iowa Hank at Dayton. So okay, all right, good to know, dude. Um, y'all are amazing thing, but so many, so many yeah yeah yeah, man, um, try it one more time, just just for grins. Yeah, but that won't fix anything with the repo. No. If it works, I'm gonna be flabbergasted. But I'll just email a sharp and say, hey, dude, what um he impartial? Yeah, being one there or was a working card. He did not mean to send or send without fixing it correctly.
I don't know their speculation. Same same thing, aboarding. Please commit your changes to stash them aboarding blah blah blah. So I assume that means it did not your choices are stashed all or nuke everything. And I'm not gonna nuke anything. Yeah, I'm not gonna I'm not gonna gap with it that much. So okay, so I want to try. I hate third party tool chain set. Yeah, but the passion. Why can't we just pile everything in Linux all right, powering up the radio blah blah blah.
See um gets already installed because it's giving us a get error. So that's why I don't think we need to install get because that error is a get error right there. I'm following. I'm gonna follow with a manual and uh, I'm sure someone who's who's like deeper into Linux could fix this on their
own. I'm sure that's true. My the focus of this video and the focus of my channel overall, if you, if you guys are new to the channel, I like to see I like to do how a real world end user would do it, and then I want to fix it how a real world end user would fix it? Um, I don't want to dig you know fourteen seventeen layers deep into Linux that overly sound only some Rail seven admin could do. But I don't have to fix analytics. You take it
out and hit it with a hammer. That's one. I don't know if i'd call that a fix, but it would certainly feel good to do that. Jody says, a star fixed this issue and get back in April. But it looks like your rare it's head again. Um, you know what you know? So I bought this in May at four days in May and invention which was middle of May. It's possible that this one was not updated with whatever he fixed. So again, so again, So I want to do a video that says, hey, you get the Sarah, how's it?
Here's how to fix it the way recommended by the developers. So now, yeah, if you know what get hub it's pulling from, we might look at it their repell and maybe it has a suggested fix on their get hub. Okay, So, um, first time set up. As a first time user, you have to enter some basic information to enable proper logging in macro operations. So in the controls call them on the left, Scroll down and select the settings button. If not already displayed controls Settings. Scrolling
on sect the set. I don't see it settings. This feels like work now looking at GitHub to figure out what's wrong with their geth hub right. Oh, oh, it's maybe it's down here. Nope. Preferences print settings now, appearance settings, Ham Radio. Oh, look at that hammer? Can you see that? Is that washed out in the screen? We can
see the icons, but not the way. So there's a So there's a subheader in here called ham Radio. And when I hover a mouse Overham radio and has fl rq fl dig fl rig len PSK Linux, PSK assume message aggregator q s STV, slow, SKANTV sweet w s jtx rad G, predict and spit X. So sped x is probably the radio software radio control software. I assume boom, here we go. How does that look? Pass key so restore pages? Nope, I don't want to do that.
The sped X is an open and store as paspell in necttion enter the passkey access your sped X new user Try one two three is a pass key change it when prompted, okay, come, oh shoot, Linux hates a the numeric keyboard start. Oh look that, Oh that is beautiful. Nice, look at that. There's a waterfall up there. I don't have an antenna connected right now, so we're not going to see a signal or anything.
I will be taking this out on Poda and doing some at least, so I want to try to do some sideband with it, honestly, but we'll absolutely do some FT eight with it. So I'm not sure where this in the controls call him. I'm sure where that's talking about. There. There's an update button if you go, okay, my call sign. Oh he's a repoll doesn't have a read me. Come on, there we go. If we scroll down settings, this is probably what he's talking about right here.
Settings in the settings panel in your call sign, grid location, or use the on screenk where you can change a pass key recommended. Leave the other settings as they are for now, press update with the new setting. So my call sign, what's my call sign? Okay, yeah, my grid echo MIC twelve. I'm just gonna leave that side tone, CW time out, CDW input tell net server. His update script is pretty simple. We can do this if you want, um, and where are you looking?
I pulled his repo. I'm looking on nice if this update script is the same script that you're running. Uh, here, it's just change of director. He's doing a git pull for the latest and a build, so we can definitely do a nuking or stashing all the changes and just running the command again to build. But um, that's fine, but let's let's let's let him answer. I'm curious to see what he would say. I'm curious. Yeah, I'm curious to see what he would say. So it comes
up in mode. I don't know if you can see this or not, might be too washed out on the screen. It comes up in modes CW right here. So if I clicked on the drop down next to mode, I have upper USB, LSB, cwn CWR, FT eight, PSK thirty one, ritty digital, and two tone. So I wonder what digital is because FT, PSK thirty one and ritty are it's are their own modes. And then there's a digital mode so maybe j T sixty five, maybe FT four, I don't know. I don't know what that is. So comes
up in so it's on forty meters seven out thirty five. I'm gonna change at the lower sideband and then it comes up on the screen there. I don't know if you can see that. There's a red button here for transmitting, a blue button for RX, so you can presumably transmit with the touch screen there. So that's kind of neat. Your radio is now configured for all modes, basic operations. It goes through. It's got some really good and I said a minute ago, this is a very straightforward manual. It's
uh RF gain controls, tuning dial step five. Different tuning steps are provided from ten hurts up to one hundred kill a hurt step. Frequency display box at the top left of the screen. It shows frequency, AGC speed, automatic game control speed, the selected bandwidth, the RIT, the split status, the RX gain, the TX drive, etc. It provides summary of your radio setting. So cool. So I think this is a very well written and straightforward to the point, no fluff manual. And that's the kind
of manual that I like. So band stacked VFO. It's got dual VFOs for crime out loud. My freaking IC seven thousand doesn't have it, does It does? But you can't display both at the same time. Dual VFOs is pretty cool. It's got dual VFOs and logging and log book. I'll have to go in there, go in there, okay, So probably go in there and do all that here one of these days. But yeah,
pretty cool. I think that that's a neat. It's a neat. It's a neat radio that that runs once again on the super secret Denco battery that you all wish you had. I do wish I had that. Dennis sent me that. He's like, hey, I made some crack on it on a live stream one time, and he's like, hey, i'll make you a couple, but I'm gonna send you invoice. I said, fine, send me an invoice, and I paid for him. He sent me a prototype as well. So but yeah, it that that battery will be in
my video that premieres on the Channel of the Morrow as well. But yeah, a good deal. I think. I think Dennis is eighty six ym in the chat tonight. I haven't seen him, but I haven't been, Okay, Um, I'm pretty sure he's gonna start selling the soon. I think he's tired of people asking him about that and he's finally going to do it. So that could be a sidebensess all on its own, right.
This guy has twenty six repos Wow. Yeah, yeah, I'm still poking around so far, I haven't seen anything on the the some of the code and scripts that he has for this device, no open issues that lately say get issue on setup, So let's let him an answer. I was hoping to find an article or a bug report saying this is fixed or the workarounds. X Well, somebody said earlier that they had this issue early on, they fixed it. Was it dawn and so again? So maybe one of
my maybe this unit, this specific unit is prior to that fix. I don't know, but I will send him a link to this video and send him a link to and sending the picture I just took and say, hey, this is the issue we ran into last night in the video, how do I fix this? And then I'll probably make another video that says, hey, here's why we do it. And I'm definitely gonna make a video taking this out to the field and doing it and using it from Look,
look how beautiful that screen is. It's freaking awesome. Man. He had one of these running at the four days and I don't know if you saw that, Frank, But he had it running there, and of course I was familiar with it already because I've got the original version. So he had it running, and I noticed how how much smaller the case was. The screens about the same size, but the case itself is smaller. It's smaller this direction right here, up and down this way. It's not as deep.
It's this the Gen one or Gen two. This is the V two, the Gen two. Okay, yeah, did you get also a Gen one? Jane was asking. I did, back when it was new. I got one of the first ones that had the problems with the finals. So as soon as you keyed up if you had an sdo w R higher than like one point two to one, it blew the finals, and they provided me with new finals. They replaced those to their credit. Um but
and I've got the finals here somewhere. I just never went back and did another follow up video order, so um so yes, I've still got In fact, I said at the beginning of the stream, if anyone wants to purchase this original Developer Mode A model of the V one spit X, let me know I did pay for both of these. I was neither one of these were donated to me. I paid for both of them. You can see that beautiful, beautiful screen should do it? Is that better? Better?
Okay? So yeah? So um so if anyone wants to purchase this UH original model, I'll make you a deal on it. You said you had a GIN one as well as the manual, the same for the GIN one as GIN two. I doubt it, but I don't know where my manual for the gym one ever went. In fact, I don't remember having a manual for the GIN one. I think it was online, but I could be wrong about that. There might be one round floating round or somewhere, but it's been like over a year, so I don't I don't remember
that. Can you use Vara HF on it? If Vara HF will run on uh Rasbian Raspberry Pie Lenox, then yeah, I mean it'll run anything that runs on It's just a buster Rasbian build. So um it's a key board the keyboard chat program similar to UH. I've read about it. I've never used Vara. Oh it's uh it's some kind of wind link. It's it's similar to win link, or it's a version of wind link or something like that. Okay, um, a question. What are the knobs on
the side for? So this one's your tuning knob. This one here is your tuning I see it going up and down the top of the corner right and I'm pretty sure this one's volume, although I can't hear anything right now, but I don't have anything. I don't have an antenna constant static though, right well without a nintenna probably not. I don't know. Um they are. They are both pushable, so you couldn't. Yeah, okay, so I don't know if you guys can see it that or not. But
there's a volume slider here that's obviously touchscreen. You can okay, all right, so go ahead and turn it now. Can you hear that? Yeah, so I can turn the volume. That's the volume knob and then uh and then yeah, this is the tuning knob here, So there you go. That's what that is. Did you start send you the kit for the original s bid X the one I got one, but Josh did not. But there's a kit that will make the old one just like the No,
no, don he did not send me that. In fact, I didn't even know this existed until I was at four days of May and I looked at it and I thought, I gotta have that. I gotta have that. Yes, I gotta have that because I really liked the idea behind the original one. It was a little bit big, a little bit clunky. It was this very first version a little bit buggy, but you know, a good idea, this one, this one seems very solid and very put together. So Jody says he sent me the discord link to fix it.
Seem wearing Discord just just d m Jody d directly to fix what this issue. Okay, it might be a post yeah ah ah. He sent it in Tank Tank radio. Oh uh blah blah blah blah. I'm getting stuck on the SSH error your local changes where the following files will be overrating to merge HF settings to I and I please commit or abort blah blah blah. That's that's the error message, or the message I was getting. Okay,
but this doesn't think amand compiles. But Linux struggle shooting is always fun on stream because you get people asking questions in the chat and you get all the Linux gurus in there. We'll do this, we'll do this, will they and you guys aren't wrong. But this is not Linux one O one. This is how to get on the error. Yeah, um, this is going back to the original. I forgot who said it first? Um stashing
local changes before running the update script. Um. So either of those two commands that we were talking about earlier, a stash that will save off whatever is there, and we write your changes back to what the main branches or the get dash get reset dast sash hard will just blow away whatever local changes you have to back to whatever the main branch the last you pulled was, and then when you do an update, it will pull the newest changes and
everything will be happy. So let's just get get get being get. I think that I want to. I think I think that I want to make a video with that error and the fix for it. You said that was in the tanker's chat France. Okay, I'll go find it. I'll go find it, but I want to I want to confirm with a chard that that that's the correct I mean, I'm sure Jody probably he probably got it from a shark. It's it's yeah, it's gilt. Yeah. Well maybe
he knows more about it. Hey, I'm sure he knows more about get than I do, but yeah, that where radio would be so much better with nicer knobs L two flex radio. End of story. The knobs are beautiful. They're there. You can tell, you can tell that they are that they are the type of knobs you would find the Borgain bin like a radio shack. And that's Are they clickable or are they the smooth? They're vab. No, No, they're very they're variable, the very smooth.
Okay, very smooth. It looks like a good knob. I'm not gonna go about some spending some replace, replace the freaking buy one and replace the freaking knobs if you want better knobs on it. Now, I just saw the chat. Hi. Yeah, oh my wife's in the chat. Yeah, so there she is right there? Hi uh art in too. Ajo's last comment has the steps followed to address it. Yeah, um, get stuff? Is that back? Is that? What is that what Jody shared with you in in the discord? Yeah? Okay, okay, right,
good yep, yep. It's it's how to fix get for normal people. And right that's what I Yeah, that's what I want to do. Don, thank you very much. I remember Don the first time we uh but what what was that build I think that was the more sereno that we did with Kyle. I think who's that one. I think it was that the first. It was the one of it was one of the kits we built and I put it together wrong, and I'm like, oh wait, I
did that wrong. So I went back and fixed it while all of you guys were doing something else and done and Don uh no, I did the sherry on my own, pretty sure. I did the shay on my own. Um, And I went back and Don Don was yeah it was and I put the board in backwards. Yes you did. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Don says he has the yeah, and Don sends to me, sends me a message. He's like, dude, he's like, that was awesome because you've messed it up and you fixed it on air.
And he's like, I don't remember if he said he did the same thing or if he's like, I really like seeing you fix it. So I'm like, okay. So that's and I've said this in multiple videos in the past, guys, I want to show you what the real world end user experience is. Like, I'm not I'm not a freaking Lenox expert. I'm not I'm not a I'm not a deep dive. Hey, let's dig into
the code of this and hack this thing up. Yeah, And it's fine if that's what you want to do, But I want to I want to do something that's like, hey, if you boot this up whatever it is, this radio, something else. And I've showed this, I've showed mistakes on the on on my video that's like, I'm gonna unbox this radio today and I'm gonna press this and this and this, and I screwed up.
And as I went back and fix it or something, people are like, why don't you why don't you rehearse that so you don't make mistakes on on your video. And I'm like, because the mistakes I make, somebody else might make, yes, And I want to show you how to fix those mistakes us the marshmallows fulfield, I already brought that up. I already brought that up. I told her that you guys uh initiated that conversation at pot to weekend and I and yes, yes, I told her, Oh so
my wife, My wife makes marshmallows, homemade marshmallows. If that's the thing some of you think those come out of a machine. Somewhere in Wisconsin or something. No, you can actually make them at home. And she puts bourbon in hers. She takes magic from marshmallows. It's just just and then fuses bourbon with it. It's just I'm just gonna leave that there. It's I've always thought it was a little bit risky putting them on over the fire
and roasting them because I thought they might explode. But so are. Yeah, there's no alcohol in him, but they do have a distinctly bourbon flavor. Yeah, oh yeah, amazing. They are so totally breaking keto for them. Oh yeah, well you gotta break keyto over Field day weekend dude. So uh, no response and what he wanted for the V one? What would his wife sell it for? If she's the child that's awesome. I don't know. Um, I don't. Honestly, I don't remember how
much I paid for the V one. I want to say it was around three fifty mark two hundred bucks to two hundred bucks. Let me know if that's acceptable. If somebody's willing to give me two hundred bucks for the for the V one, I will sell it for two hundred. Well, she isn't accountants. She will get her moneys out of it. She knows what I make so well does she knows what you spend on radios? She does. We had a discussion about that yesterday. Actually, what's up, porker,
Jason's in trouble. No, whn't it wouldn't that. It wouldn't that kind of conversation, I explained to her. No, I know, I know, it's fine. Um yeah, I explained to her. How expenditures on radio, Well, we were talking about the FtM five hundred, which is right there by the way. Holy crap, have you ever done APRS Thursday? Who in the chat's ever done aprss? Wait? Wait, wait, this is new to me. Step back, gorus Thursday? What is that? We'll go watch my Wednesday live stream from like a month ago,
Frank, and you know what it is? Well, I'm working when your live stream is gone. Doesn't mean I didn't say beyond it. I said, go watch it, team replay, buddy, Come on. So APRS Thursday is basically an APRS net that happens every Thursday. You send a message to um hotg Hams on the gram is what that stands for, and you put join and and then you just start getting completely bombarded, like like yesterday I walked into the shock here and I was still getting all these messages.
So so APRS UM is um GPS Positioning Reporting system across ham Radio network and a field in there. A part of that data package is a just raw data field that people have figured out how to write scripts. Scraping the aperis data across the Internet looking for keywords and letters to trigger other things to happen, like sending a text message, sending what other stuff is. And then they figured out how to send messages and other things as they keep patting more
and more and more scripts. So I guess some way they started nets with these things and correct correct. I still, I still think Mike is kind of write about APRS if Mike's Mike's point on APRS is that it's useless on InCom and I kind of agree with him. Now he takes it, he takes it a little bit far. He and Mike likes to be Mike likes to be Mike arg argumentative so that he gets more attention, which is not a bad thing. It's not a bad it's very YouTube of him to do
that. But his point about his his point about MCom is is correct. I think I agree wholeheartedly with that, and that's that's where I was going with M and M comp situations where a lot of things are knocked out. You got to be lucky enough to have someone with an APRS receiver. Yeah, I incorrectly to get a lot of that functionality out. Even if you have a receiver and not connected to anything, APRS again is still useless. When link Wednesday, I have never done. I've never done much win link
I'll do. I do have an account and I check it every now and then. I've sent I send messages to the tech Prepper gastone and came for ack oh semi regularly, m win link Windsday. I want to do that. I'm gonna do that soon. We're gonna do um I. In fact, I had the guys who set up So there's a Facebook group called APRS Thursday, and I got invited to it by someone a few months ago, and I posted in the Facebook ground, I'm like, hey, never heard
of this? Interested in it? Sounds like a great idea. Who wants to come onto a live stream Wednesday? So I got one of the guys to come onto a live stream Wednesday and that's what we did. We explain how APRS or he explained how APRS Thursday works. Very fun. So if anyone knows anyone from whin Lake Wednesday who runs that process, that system, that net would love to get those guys onto a Wednesday lunchtime livestream and explain
how to get started with win link Wednesday. So please and anybody who is involved in win link Wednesday or knows the admins of win link Wednesday, I would love to get that just just to I know what it is, but I want to put it out to the audience and and and uh, you know, kind of explain on video what it is. So please, uh please reach out to me if you haven't any inside track on win link Wednesdays. It's really fun. Whin Link is awesome, I tell you what.
Whinlake is really cool. That's awesome because it's email over the air and I just I just think that's really fun. And uh, any of them you can do, h yeah, you can do you could you set up so people set up win link. Um, I think they're just called nodes when link uh Winlake nodes or digipeters were peters whatever, And you can do it on two. There's there's a two meter one. The net Ark Club has a two meter one just right there at the hospital at Baylor Grapevine. Um,
I'm pretty sure that's where it is. But you can do it on two meters. You can do it on twenty or forty if you want too. There's a lot of guys who do it on HF. There's a lot of HF win link servers out there. Um. So it's just it's basically sending email over the air until it gets to some kind of digipeter or iGATE type thing. That's not what they call it. They don't call it nigate, but it's a it's some sort of node that listens r X. It's
a transceiver, a radio transceiver that's also connected to the Internet. So it takes Internet traffic and sends it out VRF and then it brings in RF traffic and sends it out to the Internet. So I can email tank radio at Yahoo dot com from my from the woods somewhere, if I can send a wing link message r and AOL are Yahoo. Well yeah, I mean, well, it's it's like I'm casey five HBB at winlink dot org or whatever it is. But yeah, I mean, yeah, a lot of people
you still use AOL but I am. But yeah, tank cam radio at gmail because winks cool. Win Link gateway, that's the word I was looking for, win Link gateway. Thank you, Scott. Yeah yeah, win link gateway. It's nodes, digipeters, eyegates, gateway, whatever. Getting. They all do the same. They all do the same freaking thing. One six, telling that one sixty James Cook nice, Yeah yeah, telling that over HF. I can't see how that won't go wrong. Hey Bob,
what's up dude? Thanks for making the stream. Yes, the original version does have the pie. In fact, it is a pie four because if you look, those are two blue USB three ports on that pie. So it has a pie four in it. So yeah, yes, yes it has a process. I think I'm missing I'm missing a couple of the screws out of it. I took there's you can see their screws missing right here. I probably have those somewhere, but no guarantees on that and complete
fifty dollars off. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, so but yeah, yeah, thank you for a thanks for being here, Bob. So anyway, um, what kind of um you know who's interested in this? Project. Who's interested in this? Sped X Do you think you guys are gonna um, you guys will thinking you might go pick one up? I mean again, it's three hundred ninety nine dollars without the pie. I think it's four ninety nine with the pie. Wow, that rain's coming down. Oh
I haven't heard anything. I can hear it right now. I just it started, then it stopped, and now it just only three miles apart. And well you're in a house. I'm in shock. So I bet miss window and it's not raining there. Wow. Yeah, I don't see the trees moving anything. Absolutely, Bob. I have some screws. I have more than just a few. Yeah. So what who do you? Who out of you think thinks you might be interested in purchasing this? Either with
or without a pie. You can do it however you want to do, says he will hit you up right now and pay you on PayPal, And uh okay, and um, what are you gonna do with it? Because I think it's a freak. I mean it's like it's got ws J two. I mean it's like, Okay, did you guys see that, uh that that video I did on the um u um uh, shoot, the the prime it was called a prime is UM started with an E something electronics, SDR expert SDR expert SDR search your channel, expert expert SDR expert SDRs
is software and UM and it's um UM. It's a Russian company and Gigaparts sent me one of their radio. It's a seven thousand dollars radio. But it's a full computer. It's a full computer, Like you could do video editing on this computer built in str and uh yeah, you probably could, and M but it would do all the things. So you could run WSJTX, you could run logging software, you could run anything that would that would run on I think it was a Windows computer. It might have been Linux,
but anything that would run on that operating system it would run. And it but it ran expert SDR software as well, and you could do all of the things inclusive. You could live stream from your radio with your expert SDR hf rig in the back, you know, kind of in the screen whatnot. And I'm like, this is freaking with seven grand Okay, That's why I sent it back to Gigabarts. I'm like, hey, this is
cool. I don't want to keep it so you guys can have it back and sorry, this is kind of like that, but on a very more affordable budget. I can see you use case sitting out on field day with this in your lab and doing FTA and suiting the r around. And I like, that's a great idea, Frank, I might do that because I might bring it. I might bring it to field NA trying to do some FT eight had a support your park weekend we did at Lake Ray Roberts.
I was shocked how much you and Mike did FTA, like just just y'all were running it almost religiously. Mike did some sideband, but he gave up on it, and just like I'm gonna run FTA, I ran. I. I ended up with two hundred and twenty eight FT eight contacts and only like two hundred and thirteen sideband contacts, and I thought I had done more sideband than FT eight when I when I pulled my logs after I got home from them, we were like, wow, did a lot of data and
for me running sideband for the little I did. Um, I wish you did great on sideband. If our if our noise floor would have been better, the sideband would have been a word. Yeah, it would have done better on The great thing about FT eight is you got a bunch of RFI who that care is just freaking you know, get on FT eight so it doesn't you don't have to listen to it, so it's a mental thing.
But it's also low noise, so you can you can cut through a lot of that crap that's on the band and still make contacts with FT eight. So yeah, yeah, I enjoyed it. I want to go to what I really what Yes, what I really want to do is the way that six meters was up today. I want to drive up to Umbda Grasslands and set up a six meter station and do an activation on six meter FT eight because I'm like this might be fun. So yeah, but coo coo, coo cool man. Yeah, m hmm all good. Son SDR don that
was the name. Expert Electronics is the software. The company is Son SDR thank you. Yes, yes, Apache La Apache Labs is another company. I've used both of those. They're they're both good. I like the flex better, but um there is Yeah, the Expert Electronic stuff is cool. The Apatchie Labs I only use like one or two times. I didn't get as well versed with that one. But um, yeah, all str stuff is cool. Str stuff is really cool. So oh good deal. All
right, guys, thank you for joining tonight. Yeah again, this is this is this is awesome. So I'm gonna do an update. I'm gonna I'm gonna send this information to a shar and say here's what we did. Here's a link to the video. Please go watch it, and um, please give me some pointers. And when he replies back and say, oh do this, do this this, I'll make a video, make a short
eight or ten minute videos say here's how we do this. Link back to this video, and then I'll take this thing out to the field, probably at field day, Frank, but I want to take it to Poda. Also oh yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. And um, but you're just talking to use cases and I really see this you using FTA and just poking this on your lap as you're just relaxing around the fire. Yes, but also, forty watts on sideband for POTO would be plenty, honestly, I
mean you're not going to do as well as like one hundred watts. I don't think one hundred fifty watts, but um, it's better better than twenty. Yeah, there's a lot of I mean, there's a lot of guys that do Poto activations on it. I see seven or five at ten watts, I've done that a couple of times. Or a or a g G ninety at twenty watts, I've done that once or twice as well. So forty watts. Yeah, yeah, totally totally cool. So um yes, all good. Okay, make once again those of you who just joined us.
We've had a few people drop off at the last twenty minutes. That's okay. Um, We're we're gabbing a little bit more tonight than than we normally do. Um Friday, make plans for Friday. The premiere on my channel tomorrow will be about the f X FORCR twenty QRP Radio from BG two fx dot Com twenty one technically not QRP, but it kind of is QRP. I don't know. I saw a shirt at hanvention that said fifteen hundred watts minus one equals QRP, and I'm like, I saw that. Guy's like, hey, I stopped. I was walking behind him. I was like, hey, dude, can I take a picture
of your shirt? He's like sure, It's freaking awesome again again one more time. Whiskey Tumblers last week, Go audisers now and then there's not gonna be a regular sale.
