GreatMan Podcast

GreatMangreatman.tv

Manhood is not merely a product of biology, but rather the result of maturing, learning, and experience. While being born male is a matter of genetics, becoming a man is a matter of choice. The GreatMan Podcast is here to equip men to make that choice by uniquely combining three diverse perspectives, blending academic insight with practical guidance to help men build greatness in every area of life. Unlike most podcasts, we tackle a single topic over two weeks: the first episode–“The Talk”–offers a broad overview led by New York Times bestselling author, Stephen Mansfield, while the following episode–“The Build”–focuses on practical steps led by men’s coaches, Anthony Flemons and JT McCraw, to integrate the theme into daily life. In all that we do, we believe that males are born, and men are built.

A GreatMan and Women

As men striving toward nobility, we should be bothered by things like recent satanic Grammy performances. What's more, we should be outraged by the injustice being done toward women when they are portrayed as servants and objects in our culture. We are told to ignore it in art, yet are called to action in the public square. Men, it is up to us to call out the hypocrisy and lift women up. Don’t Let The Old Man In

Maintaining health, vitality, and purpose as one grows old has a lot to do with eating right and staying active, but everything to do with adopting the right mindset. It's tempting to believe that with old age comes a lack of responsibility. In fact, many men are throwing in the towel in their fifties, leaving the rest of their lives to become purposeless and unhealthy. As you advance in years, you get to choose how you will spend the rest of your life: on the couch - or in the world. Don't let ...

Being surrounded by men doesn't equate to having a band of brothers. To build the latter, there are some deeper questions involved - Why is this person in my life in the first place? A Manly Apologetic

Do you have an apologetic for noble manhood? That word, "apologetic," comes from the Greek word "apologia," meaning "a formal defense of an opinion, position or action." If someone were to ask you what great manhood looks like, would you be prepared with a response? Would you be able to articulate your convictions? In this episode, Stephen lays a framework which we can use to explain our belief in pursuing righteous masculinity. Listen in to equip yourself! See Privacy Policy at https://art19.co...

The Horror of Haunting Loneliness

Did you know that if you are “haunted by loneliness,” as Stephen says, the toll on your physical health is equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day? According to a Harvard study, 61 percent of the young in the US self-report as being lonely. A haunting sense of loneliness is also correlated with high blood pressure, higher instances of cancer, and dementia. Who Are You Talking To?

Most men, if they’re talking at all, are talking to the wrong people. If the only people you are talking to are your rowdy friends or your wife or girlfriend, then you are not going to be healing, arising, and stirred to be a better man. Stephen shares a recent experience he had in a restaurant where he observed a young man talking his date’s ear off for an hour-and-a-half. She was doing everything she could to be pleasant, but you could tell this young man was exhausting her. Afterwards, Stephe...

Getting Aligned With Father

One of the arts of great manhood is getting yourself straight about your father. For those of you who have wonderful relationships with your father, great. Dive deep. Drink it in. You won’t have him forever. For those of you who have mediocre relationships, dig in. Go further. You will be surprised at the riches to be found. If you had a horrible or absent father figure, Stephen challenges you to forgive the man that was supposed to be there, and then bring other father figures into your life. S...

Who Will Stand Vigil for You?

A part of the British monarch’s funeral rites involves friends, knights, aides, and family members stepping up to the corners and sides of the coffin to stand vigil. This tradition comes from an ancient practice of warriors honoring their deceased commanders or kings by surrounding them with protection. Manly Sacred Space

Men need manly, sacred space: a space in the home or outside of it. As Stephen prepares for a move, he describes the manly sacred space he has enjoyed for the past 17 years in Nashville. Men from every station in life have walked in and exclaimed, “Man, I wish I had something like this!” It’s nothing fancy. Just some paint and furniture. But it provides a place apart. A quiet retreat. For some men, a sacred space is the roof of a building, a chapel on a university campus, or a platform built int...

The Power in Conquering Lying

Lying is a cancer of the soul and a cancer on great manhood. According to a survey by the University of Notre Dame, the average American tells 11 lies per week. Nearly three out of four of those lies are told to friends and family members. If a man is secure in himself, he doesn’t need to lie to enhance himself. Get centered so you can live a life of integrity. Speak the truth as you know it. Be true, be authentic, be real, and you’re going to find new power in your life. See Privacy Policy at h...

Posit this with us: If there is a God and if He created you, then He created you as a man. The great principles and truths that guide us to success and effective living are often quite simple. Stephen shares a basic concept that has changed his life: maintaining a sense of calm. Alfred and Tristan in Our Souls

In one of Stephen’s favorite films, Legends of the Fall, there are two brothers who embody different spirits of manhood. Alfred is refined. Tristan is wild. There’s a scene where Alfred turns to Tristan and says, “I followed all of the rules, man’s and God’s, and you followed none of them. And they all loved you more.” Men live in tension between innate wildness and societal rules. Yes, rules are necessary for society to function. The problem is that a man can completely lose his wildness in our...
