Welcome to the Great Detectives of Old Time Radio from Boise, Idaho. This is your host, Adam Graham. If you have a comment, email it to me Box thirteen at Great Detectives dot net, follow us on Twitter at Radio Detectives, and become one of our friends on Facebook, Facebook dot com Slash Radio Detectives. All right, well, before we do get started, I wanted to let you know that I have a new book out. The

title is Powerhouse Hard Bress. It's a continuation of the series of superhero comedy novels have been writing and this one is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble dot com and also for the Kindle and as a right now, Scott Wilcox, or audio book narrator, is hard at work recording this and hopefully we'll have audiobook version out sometime in August, so I'm looking forward to that.

And this week we have a couple of events going on. We have on Friday for those of you in the Boise, Idaho area, I'll be doing a book signing at the Hastings Store at seventy five hundred West Fairview. There's a calfc Slash Long John Silver's out front as well. As a Wells Farko Bank and I'll be there from four to nine mountain time. Also, if you can't quite make the drive to Boise, we have a virtual book launch we'll be going on on Wednesday, so tomorrow, and we'll be there from

six thirty to nine mountain time. All right, Well, we're beginning a new radio series today. This one is called Mister Moto. Now. I played a Mister Moto movie for this month's Video Theater and one I think one of the better ones, mister Moto's Last Warning. Really the Mister the Mister Mono radio series is an entirely different incarnation. While the original Mister Moto was Japanese mister Iamoto, the featured character in this series was Japanese American born in

the United States. Series aired over the NBC Radio network from May nineteen fifty one to October nineteen fifty one, so kind of followed a similar length of airing as The Big Guy from a year before. NBC Radio series with Detective Show starting in the nineteen fifties really did not have a lot of luck. The big exception of that was very Craig Confidential Investigator, which we played. So let's go ahead and take a listen to today's episode A force called x

O seven. And this sounds like an audition recording, kind of minimal on music and effects. But let's go ahead and take a listen. The night's going fourth called EXO seven drying Mister Moto, Mister I A Moto. I stood there in a room in their View Hospital in New York, beside the young doctor. We watched the patient on the bed with a sort of son incredible horr. The woman's condition was so fantastic as to defy all all reason. She had grown visibly smaller in the back quarter hour. Her body was

not that of a woman, but of a child. The young doctor sixth were princed around the foot of the iron hospital bed. Mister Moto, this is unbelievable. Yes, I can't stand it. It's sickly. Yes, that's happened to him. What's called this the thousand apology doctor. But this is a secret which must be kept at all costs. The assignment on Exto seven started with a personal phone call last Saturday. I had just completed a case in Carol for US intelligence and had returned to New York for a rest

and a holiday. I wanted nothing so much as I wanted quiet. I was annoyed when my phone rang at ten in the evening. I was already in debt. Hello Moto, Yes, moto is hard? Counton here? Why, profesforth Canton, I've been in Europe and I've been meaning to call you ever since I returned. But can I show you tonight? There's an entrance Central Park. There's an infant into Central Park at Fifth Even You're ninetieth Street. Can you be there in half an hour? You mean outside in

this weather? Please? Modo. I know what I'm doing, this is desperately. Then of course I'll meet you anywhere. You say, since even you're ninetieth Street entry to the park in half an hour? Can't you give me any idea of what? Hello? Hello? Who is there? Can make muddy water clear? But if let alone, it will become clear of itself. Professor Howard Carlton was head of the civic department of one of the

greatest universities in the world. I met him first in Hong Kong many years ago, and I think I can say we each treasured each other's friendship. I took a cab to Fifth Avenue and nightly street, driveling rain made murky globs of the street light at my right, fetch the park manst it and so very dark. The occasional taxi hurried by as if anxious to get away from the black wetness of the night. Suddenly, out of the mist I recognize Howard Autums last his body. He was wearing a raincoat and his hat

was pulled down over his face. His walk suggested one thing. See, I say, Moto, this is awfully decent of you, Howard? What is this all about? Why must we eat outside in the setch of weather? Surely they must wait? But what is it that may have been followed? Let's go out into the park a bit. We can sit on one of the ventures. There. You are a saying, aren't you yeah? Of what? Specifically? Being murdered? Murdered? Why? Who? Men

who write meiling me back? Meaning you quite successfully with what something I did? Once? Can we sit down here? I suppose you start at the beginning? Mother? What is it I thought I saw someone? I'm afraid I'm in a complete funk. Have you ever heard of the Michaels and men? The experiment? Never? Well? As as you know, I'm not only ahead of the physics department at the university, I'm also in charge of

the Manhattan Atomical Research Foundation. Look. Some time ago, as you may read in the papers, there was a twenty two hundred ton cosmotron competed at the Brookhaden National Laboratory, a two billion volte attom snasher. It spews out a beam of hydrogen atoms traveling at the speed of light. This beam is directed by a searchlight who were speaking to the interior of heavier atoms. The cosmotronic Bookhaden is service say the climax of men struggle to harness the power of

matter. We are here perhaps to discussif it I'm I'm trying to say that we've invented a weapon. Will my assistant and I at the Foundation, Yes, an atomic weapon. The bed ladies my assistant started working with a degenerate form of radium. Who was radium some ten years ago. It was to be a chop with cancer. The Atomic Energy Commission realized it had other possibilities. Only doctor Bedley I worked on the final face off it. Now we've

finished. Go on, Well, the weapon it's very simple, it's portable, light and so Goodney It's like having a thousandth part of an Eton bomb and a light bulb. Only George Bedley and I are in possession of the complete plans. And no, I'm being black needled for what. Twenty seven years ago, at Oxford University, I joined the Communist Party. I see,

in those days communism was rubber fashionable. I took the usual nouns one under bradgwated and and then there's one must if one has an immaturity of ahh. I grew out of it. I forgot it. I got into science. I also product something else what I forgot to resign from the party officially, a man named Sir Give the Mincop threatens move with exposure. I am either to turn over the secret of Exel seven to him, meaning to rush up, or or the explored as a member of the English Communist Party.

And is there any choice, my dear chap. Of course there's no choice. I told the link after Dows. He liked that I was going to the FBI, and he's tried to kill me three times from the last forty eight hours. I see, now there's there's where you come in. I want to go to Washington. Exel seven must be delpe with on the highest level your jobs to see that I get to Washington alive. Nobody knows we met tonight. Get two tickets on a plane to Washington tomorrow afternoon. I

shall call you in the morning from a pree station somewhere. And now for hive and six, giving a cigarette is catholic? Yeah, thanks. Isn't there somewhere we can do this without ruining your career? EXO seven is more important than a career, man or anybody else's have your match. I had a lighter somewhere. Yes, the surges, thanks Howard. How I got end put out that night. It's just the first finger was exposed to EXO seven and an experiment I shall had that amputated. The weapon is capable of

that. I'm be a fellow, That's what I'm telling you. EXO seven ex Eton bomb as obsolete as a sailing ship. That's why oh I got from somewhere in the darkness of the park. A bullet brought instant death to one of the most brilliant minds of our generation. How it caught himself forward to the pavement. I took his right hand in mind and felt the tiny, hard widdered four finger finger, not of a man, but of a baby. My first impulse was to call the police. Then I thought better.

Nothing could bring back the life, and there was too much at stake to risk publicity. I left my friend unattended in death and hurried home to my apartment. This is mister motto calling Intelligence two and I want private line eight two, five or four piece. Thank you Hello Captain eight. I had some model. Why are Washington and get me everything on a man named Sergey Venenko? Like also do a factult team check on a Jack George Bradley

who worked at the Manhattan Atomic Research Fundition correct. I will be in your office tomorrow morning at nine thirty. I would like this information to be there too. Thank you setting me truly the security of the state. Let's in the heart have it sissing the Dartie and Valinkov was airmail from Washington last night, mister mor Thank you. Captain George Bradley's file is negative. He was

registered in finger pretty when he started working with Professor Carpton. He's thirty eight PC and physics, author of several papers on a treatment of cancer by radium and X rays. He's a death eight one nineties seventy five three. I imagine he would be at home on Sunday morning. Don't you want us to bring him in? No? No, Captain Yates. The window of a man s is clariss in his own house. I will go to him. Okay, have it's your own way. Anything else for me to do?

Yeah, maybe after I have a Sunday morning chat with doctor Bradley in his own house. Yes, are you are, doctor Bradley? I am mister Moto. Mister I a moto Central Intelligence. They have a moment of your time and certainly come in. Thank you so much, said nah, I'm more John, you are most kind ah crossword buckle in the times, A soul so stimulating, bad time for at your brain. Sometimes mine isn't naturally enough. I've given up on this one. I am glad to see that

you are neither rare like Jay nor common like Son. I shall touch you. I believe you work with Professor Howard Carlton. I do you know that he is a communist? What is well? You're a joke. I don't know. I don't believe it. This believe the truth will not make it any less true. Doctor Blatty I believe you have invented a weapon called EXO seven. Do you mean he told you? Why? Is he out of his mind? Idea? That's a bladley I am working for US intelligence.

Seven is absolutely bit hard thickly. I know that. Then? Why asked me? This is a weapon simply the most deadly weapon man has ever found? And I hate it? Indeed? Why because I hate war? I? Yes, quite so? Tell me have you ever heard a man named Sergeylenko? No? Why he was flatmailing Professor Calton? Why he is blackmailing Professor Calton? If you either meet or get a letter from a man of this name, you will get in touch with me at what certainly the Lenko

remember it? Yes, I will thank you so much for seeing well. I'm afraid it hasn't been a much use, but you're welcome. Sometimes one allows oneself to do things purely because they are good morning doc about it? The let god, the leg god didn't come down now he's gone, Yes, and downstairs. Most of the conversation I could hear, and it reassures me. I never met a communist yet who didn't have a blind spot. That little man is as dangerous as a kake a night or glistening. But

George think, yeah, I'm sure you know it's Carlton is dead? He said, was blackmailing Professor Carton? He said, was not? Is he used the past ten? You're sure Carton wasn't alone when you shot him? I paused. Then Motor was with him to see was an impossibility. It was only since comstomly to figure if I could shoot at all, we shouldn't have killed him. But Georgie, he with his own work, told me, would report all little blackmails will be a FBI could have done something,

locked him up. Let's yes, the plants for Resto seven are already on microfilm. Yeah, and have the operation. Now this surgeon. Can you trust him? He's high in the privacy that no recommendation, So are you, Georgie. I will not allow you to so, George, are told you know why I'm doing this. Join us to try to stop a war. Whether I'm right or wrong. You'll do things my way or not at all. Of course, your gee, there is no need for the temper

of the angle. Get your surgeon to come to the house tonight if you can. Unless you get out of America. In forty eight, hours, you won't get out at all. What's this operation involved? It is of the most simplicity. The micro fun plans are pleased in the several plastic capsule inside my body. The capsule is secreted. There is no danger, but there is also none of the ridiculous disaccustoms. One cannot, after all, declare an appendicitis. When will you be able to travel in four days?

Two days? No? Look, the link of the American eagle may not be as bad tempered as the Russian there, but if you ruffle it steads once too off and he'll claw your guts out and throw them in your face. The eagles mad now, so don't take any chances. It's got to be two days. Today is Sunday. Now on Tuesday night you'll take off the real once and real you can make your own plans for getting to Paris

and then to eat. For it will be I will feeling the pain from the walking, will just be a big brave communist, and you will manage. I'm going to give New York a little demonstration of Expo seven a couple of hours after you take off. You'll kill a few thousand people, but the rest will stop and think now, get that purgeon over here to open up your flat belly. Sometimes I wonder, Georgie, if we are playing. Don't wonder anymore? When not? Please, no hard word coming e

the chat ship I made it myself with. Why come in Tomoto? I didn't expect you back this morning. I have just been to talk to Bradley's housecatting it did and the link of a lot. Yeah, I just says to your less thank you. Alexisterday Linco born eighteen ninety nine, Magnicocurt Crusher, f Russians married Gypsian. What actor I should have known, Captain Jake. I want three men to God Badley's house on Street twenty four hour the

day beginning this moment, mind telling me why. Let's say it is a suspicion of the audient of mine that you were born brought up in San Francisco. You're as American as I am. But don't try being Eastern mysterious. Not with me. The bloodness of the oak is more to be admired than the sharpness of the sickle. Meaning I'm down. No, no, my friend, not at all. I want God and Bradley's house for two reasons. One I think he knows Carlton is dead. I made a remark to

the effect that Carlton was being blackmailed. Bradley picked me up on the tent is being blackmailed, he said, since the Carlton murder has been kept absolutely secret, how would doctor Bradley know. Let's sex? What's the other eable schutty? Again? Please? Cabbage soup? Cabbage soup. When cabbage soup is made with for turn, it becomes shut. It is practically a national dish where that Lenkoff was born. Magneto Gosk is famous for it, like

a circu for hop dog. I smell chutchy in doctor Bradley's house. I suspect that Sergea Lenkoff will be arriving soon for luncheon. And if he does, I rest him on what are the suspicion of murder? Anything else? Detain anyone entering or leaving the Bradley house. Bring them down here for question, including Bradley. No, no, let him go, and come as he pleases. Right that all, you will be so kind Captain Gates as to report to me at my apartment tomorrow at noon. Come in, yet

the door is unlocked. Well here, I am right on the dot and noon sunctuality, Captain is the virtue of the stung. Now what about this surgeon, Well, he went to Bradley's hearts last night. He was in the almost two hours. We picked him up when he left. He seems to be on the level. Bradley has migraine headache. Indeed, the funny thing is the surgeon guy wants to go to jail. Why I don't know. At first he refused to come down for questioning. My man got a

little insistent. The surgeon took a swing at him, so we booked an off for assault and resisting a police officer in the line of duty. He doesn't want bail, he says. He arranged for bail Wednesday morning. Wednesday morning, Yeah, I wonder why search me, Captain date a man who will not fight injustice. He's hiding gookes could be badly. Went out this morning at eight o'clock, came back in the quarter of eleven carrying a large fact. You did not lift him, he said, not to. You

were right. Now, I must do some stinking. I would almost trade the honor of my ancestors to know what he's going on in Bladley's house at this moment, John, when he was stub working on that see shot a blank on. Sometimes I think you have the insanity, think what you're like. But why don't they know about the count murder at the foundation? You go down this morning, you bring home this, this, this machine of hell, and no one says, say is nothing. I invented it?

Remember there, read plug it in and switch it up. When you stop. I have the agony, say will never heal enough of travel Tomorrow night they want the seven steachers. I tell you why, you will be all right? Nor crazy? Crazy? No, no, I'm not. We'll kill several thousand people with this machine tomorrow night, but I'm not crazy. I'll be shot. I like that you did, maybe even link. But I'll teach the world a lesson. It will it will never forget anyway.

You don't need to worry. You'll be on a plane halfway to reel. Who is it? Hey, let me in quick. This case is crazy crazy. The linkoff came out of Bradley's hoss an hour ago. He must have been there all the time. I followed him to Laguardi, nabbed him on the Air France reservation, dead he pulled a gun on me, and I thought him, he's thinking me sick thinking of him. My sister done near Wood. He had some sort of operation. We got an ambulance,

came back to town of the East River Drive. When we passed seventy fifth three where Bradley's hosses the linkoff went nuts, started babbling about a machine. EXO something go on, go on? Ali died right why in the ambulance. He died of fighting. I'm a food I am an idiot, son of a something. You will rid me at once to buy this house. Listen, mister more no, no, I do will listen. EXO seven a day weapon, the deadliest weapon man has a unknown it's the name of

ten thousand heavens. Don't stand there gaping at me. We haven't a moment to lose. This must go. I will go in alone to Bradley's house. You, in the meantime, will follow certain directions to the letter. Am I to understand with the motor that you have deliberately walked into the mouth of the dragon. Yes? Why, because I know what you are going to do. Don't move. Exo seven is rather flexible. It can be made as directional as a searchlight. The messon beam is pointed straight at your

body. All I have to do is flick this switch, and to get out of the way you would have to move with the speed of light. I have no intention of moving, Doctor Pradick, you mystify me. Mister Morton, you ring my door bell? An announced with that inscrutable oriental calm that you want to watch the test. How did you know there was to be a test. If you don't keep your hands on your knees where I can see them, I'll kill you. You don't seem to understand what this

is. This is EXO seven, small portable simple. This is the filament. Radium heavy hydrogen in the cathode is in this tube here and then BEEP is very weak, but it can split the hydrogen atom. Why do you keep looking at your watch? Are the police waiting outside? Do you think they can rush in with guns and stop me? I realize now that they cannot, and relax. But keep your hands on your knees. The multiple

tube is now pointing straight down through missus Henley's apartment. It takes a moment to warm up exactly in my head, exactly in the name of heaven, mister Moto on a human beings prayed with my invisible methon beam. The water and the body is broken up a proton and the hydrogen atom is shot three of its nucleus. The water on the body becomes arcrogen and hydrogen atom. You evaporate, you shrivel, you dry up. You become a shriveled, hard, dry, little calcium doll about three feet long. Hey, this

way the dream of inventors for centuries. I will give it to America. The linkop has taken it to Russia tonight as a lesson, I shall exterminate a few thousand people, everyone within the radius of a mile, to be precise, and break them steals and no protection. Twenty feet of lead is the only thing that will stop it. Poor missus Hanley, Honey, she sleeps directly under where I am standing. She was a rather nice woman. Fatty, I am one needs to be brought home to us. Here for

a few thousand die I have, millions will be saved. I think Russia will be afraid to start anything too sure was hot. Now I'm going to start moving it slowly from side to side. You'd better stand over that corner. The light the PA. Somebody turn up the PA. I must let you keep quite quite still, doctor Bradley. Well, mis Simoto had wrapped it up. Bradley will be tried for the murder of missus Hanley Andyll five.

Just the same, Captain Lake. He had quite an idea, an idea you frustrated by obeying my instructions to have the Power Company cut off elect service to all of east side Manhattan. Bradley was nut no Captain Lake. He had an ideal, what perhaps but of some merit, And he really didn't give the secret of EXO seven to Russia thanks to us getting the link. No, Bradley couldn't really be a traitor who only wanted us to believe

Russia had it, hoping our fear would make us more careful. I examined the micro film which the colon removed from the link of Fundy, which was l post. It was completely useful. You have just heard the world's greatest international detective philosopher fer mister I A Moto in a force called x O seven. James Monks started as mister Moto. The script was written and directed by Harry W. Junkan others in the cast where Peter Tapell, John Larkin,

Gavin Gordon and Scott Tennyson. The music was transcribe. This is Fred Collins speaking, and here was the preview of next week's story. Is mister Moto, you see has written he who denounces fame has no sorrow. Next week a story that proves the words of the Sage, A story of fame and tragedy concerning a flight from Istanbul. And now may I wish you a good night, blessed with super conserate welcome back. A kind of odd episode.

I have to admit that when I first listened to this, I was very uncertain about playing mister Moto on the show because it's borderline, you know, in terms of mystery detective value, and then you have such an odd first case with it, you know, almost a science fiction flair. But it definitely gives you some insight into some of the real concerns that people faced.

You know, they were worried about all of these new weapons, all of these amazing ways we had invented to kill each other over the years, and what the future might hold. In some ways, this characterization and really reminded me a little bit more of Charlie Chan than it did of Peter Laurey's Mister Moto. But despite the philosophical element, some of the later episodes don't quite have the don't quite have the same sort of treatment. It becomes a little

more subdued as the episodes go on. So I hope you enjoyed today's episode of Mister Moto. We'll be back with another one next week. And now we have some listener comments and feedback. Randa comments that this is her first time with our radio station listening and hope you enjoyed it. And I guess that that I'll do it for today. We will be back tomorrow we continue the Kronin Matter, and then we'll be back next Tuesday with another episode of

Mister Moto. In the meanwhile, send your comments to Box thirteen a great detectives dot net, follow us on Twitter Radio Detectives, and become one of our friends on Facebook, Facebook, dot com, Slash Radio Detectives from Boise Idahol. This is your host, Adam Graham's son and off
