George Valentine right full details, Standard Oil Company of California invites you to let George do It In a moment will begin to night's adventure of George Valentine. Yeah, well I'm having miss Brooks checking on the other form. So just calmed down. The nicest porter I have and he wouldn't do anything right. His life depended on it. He's gender and he never takes a chick. Yeah. Yeah, Hold on a minute, will you, missus Fenton?
What did you find out? Brookson? Do you have a Simon powercheck and jail are right? Uh? Huh? What's the charge with him killing a young woman? He ran it down with his car. He was very drunk, why, missus Fenton? Yes, yes, what is it, mister d I'll get down there and look into it. I'll get back to you later. Yeah, Simon powcheck Age forty eight. He is still in the cell, sleeping. The door open and shut. Case I sagin As far as I can tell, it smelled like a brewery when he was brought
in. The car is pretty badly smashed. The poor girl was hitting. Where did the accident take place? In pretty deserted section of the time this books, You know the toy factor where his powcheck works. Farnton Toys boys picked him up just sitting there sling booth. The whoop. I see there's anything wrong, mister Belton. Wow, just a slight discrepancy on a man's character. Probably just shows the gentle sweet ladies like missus Fentler bad judges of
character, don't get it. But I'm other man. Maybe this is worth drinking Johnson away from supper. Yeah, it might be worthwhile. Well, I don't know anything looking at Johnson and my head Hurst Valentine, I don't know how you manage to get in the middle of things like that. The lunch, his report is clear and to the point, this man hasn't been
drinking. He was slunk, I don't remember slug and then liquor was poured over so that he would be thrown in jail, and no questions asked, Questions would be asked, and do time as Brooks enough so that we'd find out everything we have to know. There's no reason why we shouldn't take a look at Palcheck's car, is it? Come on? No question? Now? Isn't no dense in front of that car we put there by? Someone probably smashed in with a heavy monkey rancher. They weren't a result of hitting
that poor girl at all. No, she was probably killed by someone first, then thrown on the pearl Chick's car. Pretty clumsy frame up by somebody who was desperate and needed time for a getaway. Yeah, well, I guess one job was over, such as it was. What's in well, mister Pearls shaking? Go back to missus funtons. She'll make him some nice chicken soup, and you're staying here? You don't come in and get things started and then waltz out. Girl's handbag was nowhere around, no means of
identification. What do you need me? There were some laundrymarks on our clothes. We're checking those. You're sticking around, Laura Gillespino. I never heard of her, lieutenant, and you don't remember seeing her before? No, No, I came off of the plant. That's Thornton's toy, and I was going to start driving my car, and I guess somebody hit me. That must have been hiding them back of the car. And that's all I remember. He'll probably just happen to be the handiest guy around, mister Pelcheck.
Pretty lucky to get out of a thing might have killed you. They could, couldn't they. Missus Fenton is still pacing outside like a nervous mother hand Lieutenant. Yes, I guess you can go a pelcheck. We'll be wind to ask some more questions another time. Anything I can do anything. Let the gentleman outsige Jesse. Well, might as well see what we can find out at the address you have for Laura ga Westbie. Laura dead dead. I can't get it through my head. Why why? I'm afraid that's
something we don't know yet, mister glaslie were trying to find out. You can give us some ideas to why your wife was down on Manson Street. Mister Gillespie, I don't know. I don't know. It's a little out of the way. With missus Gillespie out shopping this afternoon visiting some friends. She was out, working, working, because I was never a good enough man to provide her with the things she deserves. Writer would ever get the idea that I could ever write anything in my life? All I could do
was to write this trash drink water than I should. So I don't know what I can do to help you. Lit me what different doesn't make anyway? It won't bring Laura back. Can you understand how you feeling? Mister Glassie would believe me these questions are necessary? Where did missus Gillespie work? Sorry, Lesoftski Import and Export company that down on Fifth Street. Laura's was very smart, got to be a lieutenant in the waves during the war.
She was mister Lesoftski's good right arm. Anything about the job that might have led to into what happens? No, no, mister Valentine. As far as I know, it was a pretty humdrum, orderly job. But maybe just a little wolf from mister Lesovski. Go on. You see Laura's hand bank was god. Then this must have been a robbery. Yeah, that's the most logical explanation, isn't it isn't this is? I suppose so about this afternoon? I suppose you were here, Oh, that's right, an
alibi. I should account for my whereabouts. That's another one of the things you must ask me. Oh, I have a beauty of an alibi. I was in my usual hangout Mike's barn grill all afternoon. Well, I should have been trying to work. At least a dozen people saw me. Please please leave me. If you work with a girl for over two years, mister Lesovski, you should get to know her pretty well. Oh I did. I did. She was a lovely lady, smart, brilliant,
terrible crudge did missus Gillespie had the afternoon off or it wasn't anything. This formal has that and this office she came and went without having to account to anyone because no matter of fact, mister or Subsky, we were curious as to whether you might know of any enemies Missus Gillespie might have had eni. Mister no, I was kind of a reluctant. No. Is it supposed to mean anything? No? No, I'm sure you'll understand that if you
have anything that might possibly help us. The husband, mister Callespie is a very jealous man and a very weak one. Of course, I don't mean to imply, and I see I say thank you very much. I presume you were here all afternoon, mister Lesovski Oh yes, yes, been three customers, very fine people Aliborina. But two. This export and import business, mister Losovskiy, is of a general nature. Oh yes, mostly to Europe, the mostly Eastern Europe. Of course, the business isn't as good
as it was once. Since we import some fine lace, Bohemian glass, we send them some machinely even toys toys, Yes, you know the Turton toy firm down on Manson. They are very fine clients of us. What's the matter? Did I say something? Porton toys for good girls and boys. That's been the slogan of our firms since my grandfather started in eighteen eighty
four. Yeah, it's very interesting, mister Thornton. But we were very interested in whether missus Gallaspie came down to Sigure this afternoon here at your planning. Well, no, that was a matter of fact. You didn't. Oh what's the why are y'all looking at? Knew that way? Wells she did come down here, you'd see you, wouldn't she? Miss Here's of course she placed the order with me, and she didn't see you today. I'm not in the habit of lying this book. I sho say. We
probably established a good reason for missus Gillespie to be down here. We thought you might give us some further help in tracking down the man who killed her. I see the Leasowski firm buys only a moderate amount of toys. Oh hereunds like this, some dolls that seen their own lulibis, some handmade toy soldiers. Mister Palcheck has been making toy soldiers for us what almost point a year? Oh yeah, some some cowboy dogs. So your relationship with missus
Gillespie was rather casual and purely business exactly. Oh but wait, wait, I couldn't have seen missus Gillespie it all this afternoon, even if she did. What do you mean, slip my mind? I was uptown in our designers office most of the afternoon going through the new line of stuffed animals. It's Perkins, that's the designer. Come back me up, no doubt. A perfect score in Alibi would really never mind day, Oh Valentine, let's be phone down here while we were all good. Phone him back so I
can pick up Brooks he and take her off at dinner. He wants to get in touch with you right away. Me. Must have liked your plant, baby blue eyes. Exactly what did he say? Want you to call him at this number? Go and use this phone. I wonder what's on his mother? It's me. This is Valentine Glee. Yeah, yeah, what did you want me to call you about it? Come on over right away. There's something I have to tell you. I was afraid of shame,
but I'm not anymore. I'm not. I'm sure it. Can't you lear some things that even are no good faithing like me can't take things like this on. I was in the Pacific three years. Did you know that? Did you? I'll be over as soon as I can. Come on it skips off, doors open, wide open, Honey, he isn't here. Maybe his curry's left him again. What was the name of that barn? Lan? But that sound in the bedroom sounds like the window shadeer of
blind banging against the world. Onne, Holy Macrol. Poor guy couldn't wait. Hello, Hennessey, this is Johnson. Send a crew down to four eighteen Harrow Street. Glaspie just hung himself. We'll return to tonight's adventure of George on Tine in just a moment. I'm sure that you're all aware of the fact that nothing is as tough on a motor as stop and go driving,
and yet taxicabs must operate under these difficult conditions at all times. So when the manager of a taxi fleet writes that heavy duty RPM motor oil has doubled the time between overhauls, that's real evidence that heavy duty RPM can do the same for your car. It took months and months testing hundreds of oils before we were able to develop this new motor oil laboratory tests, road tests, even atomic energy was used. Atomically treated piston rings in test cars enabled
us to measure engineware as it took place. The result of all this testing was heavy duty RPM motor oil that, compared to premium type oils as designated by the American Petroleum Institute, doubles engine life between major overhaul's due to lubrication. Now, motorists throughout the West have found the advantages of using heavy duty RPM. Case history after case history proves that here is the motor oil that's
years ahead of its time. A car fleet, a cab company, people like you and me report that heavy duty RPM gives top protection to engines under all driving conditions. So buy what's best for your car yet heavy duty RPM motor oil at independent Chevron gas stations and standard stations where they say and mean we take better care of your car. You help clear a meek little toymaker,
Simon Palchek from a framed hit and run murder of young woman. The three men who could be suspects for her death are near Towell husband, her employer, and the head of Thornton Toys, near whose plant the murder took place. All have perfect alibies, So you seem to be at a dead end when suddenly the husband calls you up and tells you that there's something he
must get off his chest. But even if your name is George Valentine, you'll never find out what that is, because by the time you get there, the husband is dead, a suicide note still in the timper enter just as he left it. Yeah to whom and may concerned. I thought I could stand up to it, but I know now that I can't. Laura was no good, or I should say, she was no better than I
deserved. She was faithless, and I could not accept that I killed her, and I framed the funny little man who works in the toy plant. Sorry, but this is the only fitting way to end a life which has been nothing but a comedy of errors. Boys will be here pretty soon. Go through the four memonies. Yeah, yeah, I guess it was just
what's the matter. I can't quite make the two things fit. The words going us be used when he called me, and it seems so important for him to tell me he was a soldier, or a good soldier who served in the Pacific. Man likes to hold onto whatever he thinks has been worthwhile in his day. Well, the words he used in the fear of facing us. I'm seeing too many suicides to try and figure out why they would Dewinning Johnson, what are you doing? Look the fibers on the rope.
What are you talking about? They're pointing up towards the ceiling. Hey, it's right. Yeah, he was killed and then his body was hauled up. That's the only explanation murder, another as vicious as the first, which leads us exactly nowhere. Especially since we know that all the three alibis are poo. We don't have to go back and talk to Lesovsky and Thornton. There are only possibilities. I guess, so, but why killed Gillespie? What did he know? You'll try and guess? Oh, come on,
okay, but may I make a suggestion here. Let's keep up the myth that this was suicide. It's always easier to make a slip if you feel you're safe. Poor man, poor poor man. Yeah, I guess that washes up the case line, Greg, I wonder who the man was that Missus Gillespie was saying. Well, I wouldn't know, Honestly, I wouldn't. Okay, mister SASKI you realize how'd you find anything? Brooks? But there is nothing in missus Gillespie's desk that can help anyone in that respect,
I'm sure, mister Valenteck, we were just looking around. I hope you don't mind mine, No, no, no, by shouldn't all the usual things, George, pencils and tissues? Do you let us to be files? So I see Brooks Sky just as a matter of curiosity, I'd like to check up on your whereabouts since I spoke to your answer that there's something I am becoming used to. But I'm perfectly willing to cooperate, of course. What is it? Angel, that's cool to those files for there's playing
cover. Let me see, that's funny. What is I can use? Oh? Laugh? This book is written in some foreign language. It belongs to you, mister Lisowski. Me, no, that is strange. Pictures of soldiers, battles. What does it say? It isn't Polish, Shulish. Laura wasn't American? Why isn't she? Yes, yes, that is where they cannot understand. Published in Europe. Pretty good pictures, diagrams to show just how troops should be set up in different military maneuvers. What connection
is there between the two murders and the books she couldn't even read. That's a big question, Johnson. I'll see you later. Yeah, where you're going war maneuvers. That's why mister Valentine or I'll put on the life pol Check books over that part of the planet. Of course, during the day there there'll be fifty or sixty people working here, huh. And on the fall and we get ready for the Christmas rush, we have more than one hundred. But Paul check is the one who's responsible for the making of toy
soldiers. That's right, that's right. Oh, he's a craftsman, has the most beautiful toy soldiers gassed them, paints their bright uniforms excellent. There sure enough of them, yeah, yes, all ranks all times, foreign soldiers, grenadiers, Ebuloman, the soldiers that are exported. How are they usually packed, mister Carnton. Oh, say a gross to the box and then on a stone. So here here's a box already, thank yeah, oh yeah yeah, all pretty well mixed up soldiers pointing up in it.
There's one raising his arm to call charge. Are the one reaching for sword? Just a big man jumble? But oh well, of course they're not works of arts, you know, just toy soldiers, no offense, mister Sarting, Oh one, little toys, little lead soldiers. I remember I used to play with them. Children don't play with them as much as they used to. Wonder why there's one raising a trumpet to his lips. Of
course most of them are playing ordinary foot soldiers all alike. I was very glad when these orders came a couple of years ago, pretty steady orders. Oh that's fine. Well, I guess you'll be wanting to close up and go home now, mister Thornton, Yes, yes indeed, But anything else I can do to cooperate. No, no, no, thanks, that's somebody else I have to see now. Oh yes, I feel much better, mister Valentine. And thank you, thank your soul for everything I did,
very little, mister project. That young woman, that unfortunate young woman. Police found out your two chiltern. They're working on it. They usually do a good job. Shame, terrible shame, mister Polcheck. When did you notice that the book was stolen? But the book, the one in Polish, the one about soldiers and Battlement Ofver's true formations. When I sold that, yes, of course, how did you know? I didn't sure. I had it for a long time. You can't buy it in this
country, you know. And I kept it out of the plant or I copied many uniforms from it for Farlen's soldier. When was it stolen, mister Polcheck, Well, a few months ago I found out it was gone. Why do you say stolen? I thought just someone threw it out cleaning woman. Maybe. No, No, I think it was stolen, and for a very good reason. But stolen by whom? Why? I have an idea? I'm not sure, mister Parncheck. Do you feel strong enough to come down to the plant with me. But no, it's closed. You
have a key, haven't you. I understand you've often worked late and you're one of the oldest employee. Yes, I believe me. It's important. It's sort of setting a trap for someone. What are you saying, Well, of course, mister Valentine, I will just get dressed and these mamma dolls. Sure cude. How much longer are we going to wait, mister Velentine Phy, not much. Who are we waiting for? Then? I don't really know? But no, you know how I make the little bit
soldiers? Yeah, yeah, molton d hubble, bubble toilent No, no, no, no, I wouldn't come too near, mister Velona and little forms to cast the soldiers from. Yes, that's right. I thought this box of soldiers was already for export. You what, what on any reason why you melted down some of the soldiers from it? Oh, you must be mistaken. All of them players and he seems. But the the ones with the drawing the ban and the trumpet and the arms raised the sick signal
charge the day, Oh yeah, they were not quite like perfect. However, And while I was helping from some lead only way I can make the matter. You know, I was wondering all along, how come that lead soldiers are shipped to you? You're from here, you know, usually they sho should be imported here from what the country is, to say Japan or Checkos, Slovakia. The way they were is cheaper. I would not know about this, this development, and mister Thornton makes me the deals with mister
lusostitude, I just make the soldiers. Yeah, I know, I think we awake or nothing. Ter scheme is, that's an They all had perfect alibi guys for the time that missus Gillespie was kid. How about you, mister polcheck me but was in the car. No one would suspect the framing man La. You're a very smart man, mister pot Check. You kill Laura Gallespie and then frame you yourself on a hit and run sage you said you knew very well was to stand. You're really smart, fust to completely
equipment with a gun. Rich, I can you know I suspect I to kids you policheck like ever since I found that book. But I know you were somewhat lat enough so that you'd have to tip your hand yourself. That's why I got you down here. That's why I watched your meltdown, those particular souljects. I will take you out in my car. I'll kill you, mister Lellonton, and then I shall disappear. I have friends, many friends. They will see I get out of this cut, I know,
and you get lost somewhere behind the iron curtain. Don't move. Of course I killed the Gillespie's, first the woman, and then him. He began to think of of all missus Gillespie when he was blackmailing you, wasn't she She was smart too. She realized that the little lead soldiers were semaphoring the position of the arm standing for letters of the alphabet, signaling, just like say, different ship to ship. Should not have meddled at one. Then
she found the book and saw how the gimmick really was. The people you send the jumble box of soldiers just to have the book. Also, they know the diagram you mean sort the soldiers out, so they correspond to the diagram and then read the message clears about stop moving the match, you sharp moving buster, lad shower. Look cow you a little warman over. I learned in the army playing with real soldiers. What's it like behind the wheel of your car. Do you feel the surge of power under your foot?

How many messages would the FBI been able to decipher George? None without polchecks cooperation. He cooperated all right, once he started to singing sound a full grown choir. Deadliest sabotage
of bone. That's what Polcheck's friends were planning. Deadliest sabotage. You were sending out the name the people in different fields whose death would hurt the United States most, And I guess there'd be other pal Chicks to see that the sabotage was carried out, no matter what would happen to them. A war
maneuver, yeah, and a war where no holes are bard. Mister Thornton and mister the sous gear outside, who's still shaking over the way they've been used as dupes by pal Chick. I'm gonna go around and talk to him. They wasn't her mama don present from mister Thornton. You know Thornton toy for good girls and boys. He think you have an idea we might find some sports someday. Okay, okay, You see, darling, you're a
war maneuver and war manouvers all stare in love and war. The Knight's Transcribed Adventure of George Valentine has been brought to you by Standard Oil Company of California, on behalf of independent Chevron Gas Stations and Standard Stations throughout the West. Webb. Ken Christy was heard as Lieutenant Johnson. Larry Dobkin as Palcheck, Jonathan Hole as Jerry, Ted Decorcia as Lesovsky, and Bill Bouchet as Thornton. The music was composed and presented by Eddie Dunstead, your announcer John Heaston. Listen again next week, same time, same station. To last year, more than seventy thousand Americans were cured of cancer each year. This number will increase, but we must take much greater strides against this terrible disease.
It still strikes one in five. Strike back. Joining the cancer crusade of the American Cancer Society, Give generously, mail your contribution today to Cancer Care of Postmaster. Let George do it is heard overseas through the worldwide facilities of the Armed Forces Radio Service. List is the mutual Don Lee Broadcasting System. Welcome back, Well. I had a sense of who the killer was kind of around the midpoint of the show because because they revealed that all of the
main suspects seemed to have alibis. Now that kind of indicated that there was a problem with one of the alibis. But on, let George do it. Usually in decades that the person we thought was innocent really isn't. I'm not certain the case was all that predictable in the generic sense. However, after listening to one hundred and sixty two episodes on this podcast, plus close to a couple dozen that I won't be able to play here, I kind of have a sense for how the writer's minds work. I did like the
twist about the messages. I caught that when they found the book. I imagine there was some arrangement of the toy soldiers. This does seem to be one of the few detective shows which didn't originally deal with by material, but as definitely got into Cold War style, and I think it's interesting some people have a reaction to the Cold War. Anything with the Cold War in it is dated, not necessarily anything more than any story where, say Sherlock Holmes
dealing with opion dens is dated. You were certainly quite a villain on the American scene, and it's always interesting to hear these sort of stories. While we turned down a listener comments, Bet says, your podcast are what get me through my work days. Love them, especially the Sherlock Holmes episodes,
since I'm a huge fan of all things Sherlock. Well, thanks so much, Beth, and we will we will actually be back with another episode of Sherlock Holmes tomorrow, and then join us a week from today for another episode let George do It.
