Sabotage transcribed at the Serve George Valentine. Damn, miss a Valentine, how would you like to do three things? See a bit of the world, solve a situation for me, and be of service to your country. On second thought, the order of those

three things should be reversed. In any case, if you're available for such an assignment at your regular pee plus, please call on me as soon as possible. At the ask you're very truly Miles Card you're president, are interesting, Brooksy. I'm sort of a yen to see some of the world. Oh, George, how do you know you're included in? Oh? Well I don't, but you ought to be able to fix it. Why i'se kind of president. I'm president of what. Oh let's see actually mining and

smelling company? At you here on this letter? Well wow, let's get out there right away and see my clients. How do you know he's going to be a client? And why did your sparks go the name of the company, Well, it just happens to be a very big and important concern. Angel practically has a corner on South American tin Oh is that which incomes from a good deal of me? And mister Carter has run out of stuff to make Kim cans with wants you to discover another man in something that with

a case he's hire an engineer. Then what could this situation be? I guess the best way to find out is to call on mister Carter. What on your face, Brooksy, Let's go, Valentine. Let's start out with three facts. Yeah, okay, mister Kenny. But let's get to the first. A quarter of the world's tin supply comes from Bolivia in South America. Second, American interests control four fifths of that output, and third act

imports more tins from South America than any other countries. That's quite true, miss Brooks, but that isn't the third Twice, Oh, I'm sorry, I interrupted. That's all right. The third point is where you can in Valentine. Okay, let's have it. In the last few months, acme's tin production has been steadily slowing up. The minds are just as productive, but we're not getting the middle out. I see, And just how can I do anything about that? There's some kind of sabotage going on at the

MAP, well organized plot to slow us up. That means slowing up the defense program. Well, just a minimum, Carter, isn't this a job for some kind of government agency. No, the people at the bottom of this plot of plans very carefully. They could smell a government man a mile away. I need somebody who will be completely unsuspectful. But wouldn't these people suspect anybody? Not the way I have it set up, Valentine, have

you ever taken pictures? Oh? Yeah, sure, of course you don't have, as long as you can get I rather thought you might be interested in the job, Valentine, so I took the trouble to get this for you. Here official news photographer, accredited the staff of Events magazine. That's your nre. The editor of Events is cooperating with me in this state. Oh yeah, yeah, I see. I'm to get down to your minds in Bolivia photographer sabotaged. You mean he has to go alone? That's right?

No, no, no, wait a minute, you've given me an idea. Yes, of course I should have thought of it. The Events magazine needs pictures minds, it also needs a story to go with them. Can you write, miss Brooks editors my school page. Good deal, I'll get you certified by Events to a photographer and a feature. Right, have a look. That'll dress up our investigations. Oh nobody will not. Oh thank you, miss Cards. There's a panem clipper leaving from a Plas tomorrow.

What you haven't looked on? I'll make reservations for your bok, that is, if you want your s Oh yeah, sure, we'll be glad to go. Good Dan. Just remember one thing. You'll look like a photographer and a reporter. But your job is to stop a bad case of sabotage. Sure as this is supposed to be in this block somewhere. That's right, I'm sine, I want to come to it. I guess it's an old Bolivian custom brook scene. Don't put up sign let them guess.

You could ask them that. Yeah, sure, I suppose. So how's your Spanish. Well it's a little on the Mexican side. You've got a camera, Yeah, that's right, and you speak engways, so perhaps you could tell us you'll take my picture? Yeah sure maybe, but I'm looking. I got a friend who is manager in the office of act Me Mines. It's right here this building. You could take my picture there, they act me. Well, yeah I suppose I could. Then you will come

with me, mister Vallon and miss Brooks hang on. Wait a minute, how do you know you are expecting you? Mister Valla. I saw you when you got on the plane. I was worried that you might get lost. Yeah, well, since you know so much, where can I find a man by the name of Ed Burke? That's easy? So your Burke is the manager of the card of mine's Bolivian. I take you rich. You think I'm trying to This thing looks a little screwed to me, but we'll go along with a gag. I beg your pardon, senior. I

am not a gag whatever that is. Jose, okay, Jose, just take us to Wed Burke. I just one thing before we get down to business, Broke, what's with this Jose character, the little Bolivion who brought you here? Yeah? Oh, Jose's all right. He has that jobs first around here? What sort about jobs? Mister Burke? Little of everything, drives cars, carries messages back and forth between here and the mines.

He's a freelance pilot, goodman who has his own plane. I see, a matter of fact, we've been using him as a sort of spy lately. When we go up to the mines. They don't seem to know we're coming. Everything set up for us, but one Jose goes up there, well he doesn't actually work. They never suspect him. Does he found out anything about this sabotage. Hasn't been able to tell us a thing. That's why mister Carter sent you down here. And where are we supposed to start,

mister Burke, I don't know exactly. I do know we've got a problem as of right now. Oh what's that? Several days ago a train loaded with or left the mines a couple of hundred miles up in the mountains bound for Enna Fergasto. That's on the coast, isn't it. That's on shipping point. The train would do there two days ago. It never arrived. But you must know what happened to it. We haven't. The least Idea just disappeared into thin air. We know it left the Olandia mine,

that's all. Oh who was manning it? Anybody used to strike? Not at all? Both gray road men from the stakes, but it was in charge of the mine. That's when I think of trouble lies the tat men at both O'landia and on cr Germans. But East Germans. You know where their sympathies. Lie, yeah, sure with Russia, of course. But if they're the ones who were responsible for these slow ups, why not fire them? That sounds easy, Valentine, But these men have been in there

to be a long time. They're under long term contracts with big penalties at their fire. Oh besides which we can't prove anything. Well, it seems to me the first thing to do right now is to find that missing train that's right so somewhere along the way and nothing else can get through. Okay, let's start from there. You say this, Jose is a good pilot. Oh, yes, very good. Well, I suppose we haven't taken me over the railroad route between here and the mines. Trains don't just vanish,

you know, would be very happy to face. My plan is already to be well, well, well, it seems to be handy all the time, Jose. Shit, see it said, maybe a little too handy. Come what say skipping? Can we fly up to the lines in fact before dark? Jose? Shit? If we leave it once, I'm already to go through Angel next trip. I'm just gonna do a little scouting this time. But I'd like to go Valentine's right, Miss Brooks. You'd better go along with Jose this trip. Next time up, we can take you.

Well, all right, I'll go back to the hotel and wait for you there. Yeah, okay, if you find anything on the way, Valentine, please let me know at once. All right, but huh, Jose had a radio on this plane. I have smitted right here in the office. Call me as soon as you see anything. Right, come on, let's go warm off. That plane of you isn't get gone. Seen anything in that train yet, Jose, no, senor not. It's pretty hard to see from this altitude. And she comes down a little. Oh

no, no, the wind corns over the mother's fasts. They're very bad. Oh yeah, sure. How many cars were there on that train? I think they were seven? Seven? Huh. I should be easy enough to spot even from this hide, that is, if it's still on the track. See if it is still in the train. Hey, hey, wait a minute, to be a starmpard wing a little s Yeah, yeah, there's the train all rides roy, Yeah, but a hundred miles back from the border of Chile. Okay, give me that radio transmitter. See

anybody around the train. You see the train has run all the tracks. It's against the canyon wall. There is nothing. Hello Valentine and flight calling bracket, lapis come in lapiz a there Burke, Yes, I'm waiting to hear from you found anything over? Yeah? We spout at your all train all right? The raven healed over against the canyon wall while one hundred miles and the Chilian porter over looking like a bad record. Not too bad, guess the wrecking crew could take care of it. Okay, and the work

training up right away? Send you one a time? Yeah, what is it up? Happening? The gas is leaking? How could that happen? I felt at Jo like somebody shooting at a below. Maybe shots hit the gas. Can't you do something? No, no, there's nothing to know. We must play. Are you sure? We had plenty of gas and we started out seeing it's made for false and we must all right, we'll look for a place spur Perk. Are you still there? Yes? Yes, Ah, that was close. Somebody is shooting at us, PreK hit

our gas tank. We gotta come down. I know, I know. That's what I'm worrying about. Pint a place in land, Jose, I think so might careful the platza Okay, head for it. Just talking to Jose and I'll listen. Perk, get this. Jose thinks he can land on a plateau. We'll make our way up the canyon to the wreck. All right out in the train. Yeah, we can sure you it's all right if we ever managed to land this crate. In just a moment,

now back to tonight's adventure. George Valentine, you're engaged by the head of a large tin mining company to try and discover the source of sabotage and the company's Bolivia mind. Before you can even get to the workings, the plane

which you're flying is shot down over the wreck of an ore train. If your name is George Valentine, it's a mighty pleasant feeling when you step out of the bullet riddled plane on solid ground, and when a couple of days later you jump off the work train back in the pond Hi routine you got back here, I don't have Before you realize I've been worried to dance. Sorry I couldn't let you know, Angel, a telegraph's were down. I know. Oh okay, we would you being about us who we came down

to meet it. We got worried how the telegraph line has been back in operation all day? And that's in case you didn't know. Oh no, I didn't. Then I suppose you know the R train is just a little bit behind us. We asked that work came down the line too. Tell me what did you find up that direct? Well, it's a clear case of sabotage. One rail of been taken out completely, spikes and all.

Huh. You see, we've been trying to work on the idea of sabotage at the mine and probably I'll guest this, I forget the best thing to do is to keep the stuff from getting through, and that's about it. And what we have to do is to check on the mines again. But we twined that not with a news photographer from Events magazine. Oh yeah, I see it means and a reporter from the same magazine. Oh no, Angel, this is man typed up. When do you figure you can get

the R train unloaded and started back for Laalania? And don't see a mister Burke. Oh it could be ready to head back up tomorrow night. Good good. I'm going to be on it, complete with camera, complete with paper intent. Oh no, I told you. Oh no, I don't think the old fashioned George. You remember there are a lot of good women reporters in the business. Yes, I happen to work for Avance too. Might be a little dangerous, miss Brooks, especially if they should get on

to who you are. They won't come on, George, you must be hungry, okay, brook See, Okay, you win. We'll keep us posted, Broke, and I'll be on that or training when the head's back up into the andies. I mean we will, George, this can't be the lie in your mind. No, we got that sign over there in big letters. But mister Burke said, this is one of the biggest of them. And there's nothing going on around here. Yeah, no, probably another funny strikers. Oh what are we gonna do? You're going to act

like a very able magazine reporter. And I hope you didn't forget your camera here' from somebody else. Oh then I beg your present, sir. Yeah, I did not see you get up the train. Why are you Well, my name is Valentine, a photographer for Events magazine back in the States, and this is miss Brooks, reporter from the same magazine. We'd like to see the manager here, I am the manature and name's Miller. What is you want? Oh, I'm sorry, Well, you'd like to see

our credentials? Yes, you're a mine or see? Oh? Yes, church, and here am mine. Yeah, let's see. You were sent by the company. You mean act me? Well no, no, we we had to argue pretty hard, even though we had let us of introduction, but they finally let us get on the train. Huh, let's see. Yeah. It doesn't look like we're going to get much of a story here, though, doesn't Why what do you mean, I mean, nothing's happening? What is this a holiday? Oh then no, no, no,

it's too bake. You cannot see us in operation. But you see, yesterday one of our machines, one of our most important machines, got out of auder that we have parts broken. But don't you have any extra point these paths? Unfortunately no, I have ordered them from La Paz. We should be in within a few days. Uh huh, Wow, that doesn't help us much for the story and pictures for our magazine. Oh no, I suppose not. But there's nothing I can do, No, no, no, of course. You see, we plan to do quite a

layout on both the Lagnia and Unci. Yeah, well, maybe it's better you go back to La Paz and wait until we get in operation. Oh better still, George, why can't we go right on up to be Unca. Mind that train's going to pull out any minute. Yeah, that's right. It's the Valentine for you're good and the safety or the lady. I do not believe it would be wise for you to go on to Uncia at this time. Oh why not? The natives who are working in the minds

threatening to strike at any moment, maybe violence. Well that would make an even bigger story, maybe some good action pictures. George. Oh yeah, but I don't like the idea. If you're being up there, there's going to be trouble. You're quite right, mister val I'm a newstable woman, George. If anything happens up there, I'm going to cover it. Well, we've come this far. I guess we've better get the whole story. Well, we'll cover your workings when you're an operation again. That sure?

What do you think about him? I think he's one of our sabotaries. I can't just figure o a way to pin anything. We'll have better luck, Aproduncia. Yeah, maybe not. At least we can try. Come on, let's see, let's be show. We're on that train when it pulls out. Funny of activity up here, Aduncia. It doesn't look like any slowdown. That's right. I just had a talk with Schmidt. He's the top foreman now East German. Huh yeah, but very friendly. He

may not be mixed up in the sabotaged business at all. The way we do take pictures, how do I guess for the moment? But what was that I jumped a mile? Must be the whistle and ends work for the day. See the man are leaving the buildings over there, but this is early afternoon. Why would they be putting now? I don't know, as it will soon find out. Here comes Schmidt, now we'll ask him. It doesn't look like a very pleasant character to me. All these baby sports

sometimes, oh Schmidt, say what's going on here? Why are you closing down? You always stop works, some of them, But you see yesterday works and men over time, so we have a load for the train or not. They can advert them more to day. Oh I see, I see, well that that sort of spoils our pictures again. Yeah, I am so sorry. Maybe you'll go back to the pass from wait until we are working full force again. Now you mean you won't be working for a few days? Is that this shy? As a train is loaded, it

always gives them in a few days off. And I guess we're all of lucky. Now you pardon miss as a man over there I must see is a friendom yeah, yeah, okay, mister Schmidt all the time. I just gotta look at that man Schmidt has to see Brocene right over there. Why would that? Oh? I have humans from down at Lallania. That's right. How did you get up here? He didn't come on the tree. Probably in that plane that landed a few minutes ago. Something's up angels?

What like they suspect anybody who comes up here? I guess is they're getting together for a council of war about how did you vid that? Or something else? Hey, look they're going in that shack over there. Let's think I'm excited and see if we can hear anything that's a toolhouse or something. It's a clumsy looking thing. You got to be able to hear something through those walls. What you think catch? I see he's driving me. You're telling what they're doing. Careful, I won't. I'll get close here.

You watch for anybody coming out a way, to be careful. That's why I have to come here. We have brought us. We have done my dream to slow down supply from the mind. Must stop the supply. That's the only way we can put the American defense work, father, and just for coun if we make it. I fused to work. That's not necessary. If the railroad has put out of commission, no team can be taken out. We tried that before they take the railroad. But when we

have finished this time, they will not fix it for many weeks. Listen to me. The all train is loaded and waited to leave for Antipogasta. I know we have company cars, several of them the air Mountain roads. One point, the road comes very close to the railroad line. Remember God. Yeah, By leaving now with dynamite and the detO latter, one can be well ahead of the train when it reaches that point. Who can we trusted to do ourselves, no others MACHOs ourself. Who knows, pat We

will be rewarded by the party. That's school, and let us make our preparation. George, what do we do now? What I need? Something about wrecking a train? Yeah, sure, but they don't know we know about it. They're going to stand up on one of the company auders before our train goes back, and as soon as they're out of side, we're going to take another company car and phone. Oh well, I suppose you know what you're doing rough idea bro see, but it might work. You're

coming out of that tool shed and heading to the car. See. I think if I get a shot at the mouth of the mine, it'll be pretty good standing over the every side where. Well right, there's good. Yeah, yeah, that's very good. Hold it there, decided anywhere? Oh yeah, yeah. I thought i'd get a few while we're up here, and the pads they would not be very interesting, was as a workers.

No, that's true, but well we'll come back again for those you are leaving on the or train of course, Oh sure, sure, what will it be pulling up in a very few minutes. I suggest you've got a ball yeah. Sure, we'll do that, mister Schmidt, and we'll be seeing you. Well, here's the place, all right, proceed. There's the company car parked up ahead. Yeah, the now by the tracks somewhere. I guess all right, I don't see them anywhere. Just take a quiet like, Angel, don't make any no, it is any more

than you have to. Hey, listen, it comes to train. Yeah, we gotta work fast. What are we gonna do? I don't know yet. Just be a voice down. It kept the movies rocks. What did you see something? I thought I heard something over there by the tracks, George, I didn't hear anything. Couldn't be your imagination. I don't think Sorry, Angel, I don't think so. You can see a lot of track from here. Sure that's how they picked this place. I guess the train's almost here. No, not quite, Angel, You can get

it a long way in these canyons. Don't be long. Sure, Yeah, there they are. They've been hiding behind those rocks. See yeah, sure, but wait a minute, they nowhere near the tracks, just waiting back here. I wonder, Yeah, sure, what George? I remember now they were talking about dynamite and a Tata. They must be all hooked up and runny. Do you mean they can set it off from here?

You stay here for see? What are you gonna do? Speak up as close as I can without attracting their attention to get the drop on him. George, he's putting the plunger on that back. I know he'll keep quiet and come when I caught you. Okay, all right, get away from that box, I said, get away from that back. He'll go. That's quite. You might reach as high as po a con. You're making a mistaken Yeah, you almost made a mistake. Brokcy. You'll see,

mister van deconnects. You're gonna explain a lot of things later. Bruxy and Schmidt smart to drop his gun? Si if Bola has one on him, I don't care. Just dynamite hand. Okay, Now, how fast can you get down that bank out of the tracks. I'll try it and see what flag that on t Brucy when you get them stopped, telling them they

got four more passengers, two of them for a one way trip. When you buy motor oil for your car, you want protection against where and repair, So listen to the kind of protection a fleet of taxicabs get by using heavy duty RPM motor oil. With another oil, they averaged only thirty five thousand months miles between overhauls. Today, using heavy duty RPM, these same cab travel one hundred thousand miles before overhauling. Heavy duty RPM reduced engineware and

greatly increased the time between overhauls. There's your proof that heavy duty RPM motor oil offers top protection and top the economy of operation, the kind you want in your car. So get heavy duty RPM at any independent Chevron gas station or standard station where they say and mean, we take better care of your car. George, What will they do with those man sah stick I'm a

jail for a while, sabotage, attemptive murder, stuff like that. Damn, And when they get off, I don't know, fireing back to East Germany. I guess that's where they belong, George. Can you really use that camera for sure? Sure? Will you explain it to somebody so they can take our pictures? Maybe with your arm around me the harbor in the

background. Oh, I couldn't let anyone else here, said Angela. And besides, I don't think Events magazine to take that kind of a shop, Old George Lights transcribed Adventure of George Valentine has been brought to you by Standard Oil Company of California on behalf of independent Shevron Gas stations and stand station throughout the West. Robert Daily Is starred as George, with Virginia Gregg as Brooksy. Let George Do It was written by Lloyd London and directed by Kenneth Webb.

Ted de Corsia was heard as Carter, Tony Barrett as Jose, James Ducker as Burke, and Fix Feld as Muller. Music is composed and presented by Gaylord Carter. Your announcer John Heaston. Listen again next week, same time, same station, to Let George Do It. Let George Do It as Heart overseas through the worldwide facilities of the Armed Forces Radio Service. This

is the mutual Don Lee Broadcasting System. Welcome back. I still wish they'd worked more of a mystery into this plot, just because you know, it was just the solution was so obvious. Let's see, we have some sabotage going on that benefits the communist and we have two people here from communist countries. You know, if they had made these spies, you know, somebody

different, it might have worked a little bit better. This, of course, was pretty key for Let George Do It, as it marked George Valenhein's entrns into a lot of the Cold War stories we've heard over the last few months. This, however, I don't think was the better one of the better stories, and I think there were several that were much stronger than this one. All right, Well, we turned a listener comments and feedback, and we have this from Sarah who says, thanks for doing this podcast.
