Hey, Grady's, thanks so much for joining us this week for another episode of Grave Girls Podcast. As always, it's me your host Hathorn, and
me Amus. I'm a little sick, so sorry for all the sniffles you're gonna hear him. My voice sounds kind of stupid. So I have a cat who's going through heat and she just like screams every day until six in the morning. We have to go to work, she's quiet. I come home, she started screaming again. My heater was broken for the last two weeks, and I know I live in Las Vegas, but it still gets fucking freezing in the wintertime. So I finally a fixed today. Thank god,
finally, dude, I die. I was so cold, I felt like I was in the catacombs in Paris. And speaking of our movie this week is as above, so below, dupe, that was the worst thing you do? What the fuck do you think it was not cold? That was so like like cheesy old TV shows, how to talk about the stupid products. Don't forget your Harry Potter themed Sorcerer's Stone to bring with you when you do visit the Paris gotta gone. I'm getting all that out. No,
keep it all look at even go into like fucking puberty. Void boy, Oh my god, I sound awful. I'm sorry. Oh I'm not. I am amorillas, guys, I just I sound like a twelve year old boy going through puberty. This is actually just an actor I hired from Craigslist who I was like, oh, you know on my show, you don't, Oh well, act like you do. Our movie this week is as above, so below, as above, so below. It's an action horror movie about a girl named Scarlett who was on a quest to find the
Sorcerer's Stone okay, the Philosopher's Stone. Her journey leads her into the Catacombs under France. Her journey leads her to the Catacombs under France when she and a misfit group of explorers go underground to find the treasure. Instead, they get trapped in literal hell. The only way out is down bum bum bum. So what did you think about the movie? I liked it, but I did not like the way it was filmed. I hate movies like that. Yeah, but besides that, I liked it. It was It wasn't
really scary. It was interesting to watch. It keeps its pace really well. It gets exciting. That's why we call it an action horror because there's like a lot of action, but also there's like demons and monsters and someone getting her head literally bashed in while you see it and you hear a crunch, you know this hello real? Oh oh? But yeah, I liked it about you. I really liked the movie. I watched her twice, you know, like I usually do. I liked that even though I don't
like when movies are filmed like that. It wasn't very shaky. It at least kept still. Yeah, it was done well. I just don't like the style. Yeah, it was done really well for that style, which I also don't like. I thought the music choices were good and creepy, and I just wish that they explained a little bit more about Benji's past or whatever was haunting him, which we'll get to. We watched it on Netflix. It's on there right now, so hopefully it's still never by the time
you go to check it out. I don't want to be a liar. If not, I'm sure it's somewhere, but you know pirate stuff online like good old Amaist. Buy it at Savers on DVD. It's probably there. Oh it is that Saves on DVD. Go to every single Savers and be like I heard on Great Bril's podcast, So you have this DVD. Are you saying they're a liar? Yep? Okay. So the movie starts out where we see the main character, her name is Scarlett, and she is
going to Iran. So Scarlet heads to Iran to Elie eagerly explore a historical cave system that was going to be destroyed. Literally as they're about to turn the switch on the dynamite, she finds like a little hole that looks like it's hollow or whatever, and she smashes that shit. She crawls in and there it is the Rose Key. It kind of looks like a little bull, kind of an animal, and it has like carvings all over it, and she is scanning it with her like little GoPro to take stills and everything.
So that she can use this to decipher the thing, which was really really smart because you'd literally just need pictures of it of like anything. She's just like, I don't care. This is on the wall. It's important. This one's on this wall. This is over here, because yeah, as long as it's on camera somewhere, you can posit it. It'll be at a weird frame sometimes, what I mean, yeah, you can kind of flip it. You know, you would deal with it. It would
be doable. So she gets it. She almost dies though, because the cave like almost collapses on her and she barely gets out. Her guide dies though he didn't he someone dies right in the beginning with her underground, well, she sees her dad hanging there and she's like, what the fuck. That's the first time you see that her dad. But it looks weird because we don't know what it is until later. Oh I didn't even put that together to mean. That means she was like already on the right path to
what she had to do to discover the sources stone. Anyway, So she gets that, and next we see her getting like interviewed by a cameraman. His name is Benji, and she's like, oh, come with me. We have to go find my friend. And she's showing him her camera with all the symbols on it and he's like, who's gonna be able to decipher
it? And he's like, I know a guy. And so they go to France and there was like a big church and they like sneak inside and she goes up into the giant like clock tower and she sees a guy who is like, Hella cute though, yeah, it's Ben Feldman. I love him too. He's super cute. He's like my type, like the nerdy, long hair like dork and I'm like, oh, he's so cute anyway. Yeah, So she sees Ben Feldman, whose name in the movie is George. He's like, I haven't seen you since Turkey and she's like,
yeah, sorry, I like left you to dying jail. Kiss kids, can you do this for me? And he's like okay, because I'm a dam idiot. He's like, you're hot, so I'm gonna do it. That's exactly how it said, guys, That's one hundred percent how it happened, word for word. So then she's like, I need to see Nicholas Wamel's tombstone, like after hours and he's like okay, and I'm pretty sure that was like the girl who was sleeping with it was that just me?
Yeah, that was a good a girlfriend, his like literal girlfriend, because he's like, oh, like oh, given up the eyes into it and he lets him in after hours to get her she could be fired and they get to the tombstone and like they're taking video of it, and it kind of reminded me of that stupid scene a national treasurer. We're like keep the lemon on the back of the Declaration of independence with the q TA yeah and the air. Yeah, so she had to use um lime and another chemical
instead of lemon. It's lime, instead of the breath, it's fire. It's it's just national treasure. And it takes place in Paris. It's just national treasures, just demons, national demons. National treasure was in France. Are you thinking of the da Vinci Code? No, maybe national treasure is in our nation of the United States, Declaration of our independence. This is our countries thing that's not in France. That was like in Massachusetts and like
fucking Pennsylvania. Probably sure it is like national treasure, but it's also like the divisi goo where it's not in America. Yes, okay, So she's getting filmed by Benji and they know that they need to find someone who can read the tablet thing. She gets bend. They put the lime and the salt and the coconut and mix them both up and lights it on fire,
and they're like, oh shit, look at this. So they took a picture of it and they get the fuck out of there, and then like right outside, they're like deciphering it and he's like, oh, there's a star. Star means this moon means that. I liked all of like the little clues and solving it reminded me of a video game and it was like all really believable. Yeah, because they're like, okay, that looks like the actual symbols, I guess. And then oh, this bird couldn't really
mean this. We don't fucking know. We have no clue, but I believe them. But they figure out that where they need to go is three hundreds seventy point five meters below the surface, because philosophers believe that the number of the devil is like seven forty one. Cut that in half, boom, And then they're like, wait, but it can't be there. Because there's nothing there. And he's like, wait, I'm a nerd, I know where this thing happens. There's a ton of city sunk into the hole.
And he's like, how can a city sink if it's flat ground? And they're like, that's what we're saying. But yes, thank you for clarifying, Benji. And then they go on the tour of the catacombs to see if maybe they could like sneak to like the untourist people allowed section the restricted area. Yes, they were looking to get into the restricted area. Okay, but this part, who is that kid? He never pops up again. It looks like the kid who died in the car. Yes,
I was just gonna say that. It looks like Pepills or Papillion or Papillion whatever, Pepion, Pepions. It looks like Papion's little brother or friend or whoever. We don't know, but it looks like the boy in the car. Yeah, that was him. I didn't realize that so right now. And then I think that the other little boy you see, not George's little brother, Danny, the first little boy you see, I think that's Zed's
Sun that he denies is his. There was a first little boy. Yeah, he has like brown skin and curly hair, and he kind of looks like he has coins on his eyes. It's really weird. I don't remember that it shows up for like two seconds, but yeah, we're getting ahead of ourselves. But they decided they have to go in the catacombs. So they're in the catacombs and they're saying their plan very secretly but loudly because they're
in a tunnel, so like everyone's gonna hurt you. And she's like, how are we supposed to get to the restricted area of the catacombs And he's like, go to this nightclub, Pepilla. What's his name again, Pepion. Pepion will help you. And she's like Pepion and then he's like yeah, and then they go and they turn around like two seconds later, and he's gone, like, how could he have ran? It was weird you
just pulled. That night they go to the nightclub and really strangely, this strange looking female locks eyes with Benji the cameraman in a way that he's creeped out, and then she's walking away and you probably have to watch it again to notice this, but in every frame of the club scene, like she's there, yeah, in her like white dress too, So it's like who is she? I don't know. I think it must have been an ex of his or something. Was that the lady who killed him? Yes,
that's the lady who kills Benji later? Yes, all the spoilers, all of the spoilers. So they finally find Pap and he's like, what do you guys want in the catacombs And she's like, we're gonna go find treasure and he's like, I'm only gonna do it with me. I'm like, like, crew can have half of the treasure, and she's like you can have all the treasure and George is like, no, no, no, you can have half. That should have told Pap that like something's going on.
She don't want the treasure that she's saying us down there in the scary ast part of the underground. Yeah, and that's like really deep underground, like three hundred almost four hundred feet. Remember at one point they're like a thousand feet Like is that even possible? Like what? Yes? Maybe not for humans? Yeah, I don't know how did they even breathe? I guess the tunnels the air has to be going somewhere I don't know. You
are correct. Hopefully someone's gonna email us and be like they can breathe because of this, and I'd be like, thank you. Yeah, I'm really bad at science. Can the biologist explain this to me? Geologists all of the issts not a murderist though. They get to where the cateacombs start, and Pap is like, dude, we have to get in there quick because if the cops find us, we're fucked. And he said that like funny, and it was because it's a little accident. You know, I wouldn't
have gotten there. I would not if I saw that little hole you get to crawl through like that, Nope, would you do it? No. My big fear with things like that, because obviously I'm like thicker, was like, what if I can't fit to the fuck all? I just die? Like Benji, he was like football players, thatcher. He wasn't a small guy, and when they had to go through like the little small, small holes like you could see, He's just like, I'm not gonna fit.
And that would be my fucking worry because that hole, the first hole the go down, is like small. How the fuck do you even fit in? The remember the episode of Zoom and the guy's like, how do you fit your body through a note card? Let me just stuck in my thine. That's what I would try to do, and I still don't think
it'd work. So I used to go splunking. Living in Las Vegas, Nevada, there's a lot of like abandoned mine shafts, and when me and my husband were younger and stupid, it didn't have, you know, lives depending on us. We should just go in these caves and it was so scary. You would hear noises just like they did. No one would be in there. Sometimes you would get like a gust of wind and you're like, what the fuck. I'm like, deep in this cave, how is
there a gust of wind just on my face? Like it would be so scary. One time I almost fell in a snake pit. It sounded like someone was tagging. So we went closer, like oh cool, other humans, and my dog runs off and the dog is black right off in the distance, and we hear and then he comes running back to us and we're like, what the hell, get closer and put our flashlight and it's like
literally a snake bit Jesus. So this movie really freaked me out because when I first watched it, I was on a pitch black room and I get really into movies. I think I say that like almost every episode. So I put myself there mentally like with them, and it scared me in that
way. So maybe not the like the scariest, like traditionally scariest movie, but if you really put yourself there squeezing through those type spaces, every single time you go through a door like closes off, you can't even go back the way you came if you wanted to. You're so far underground, no one is ever gonna find you. Like, It's just it's scary. See that's probably why you were more scared as a movie than I was, because
I've never gone underground. I'm sucking sae, I'm weird. They decided to go in and Ben Feldman, Okay, George is on the rocks about going down there because his brother Danny drowned in a cave and when he saw his brother stuck there like his leg was pinned by like a rock under the water and it was like rising, He's like, I'll be right back. I'm gonna go to our mom and dad, but he was only like five and he got lost on the way and when he finally let his parents there,
he had drowned waiting for him. So he felt really guilty. He hated going in caves. See, but it wasn't even his fault, even me, it really wasn't his fault. So before he could even decide if he wants to go in or not, the cops come. They tackle a pap everyone rushes in. They have to run from the cops for a little bit, and then they get to this like one section of the caves catacombs, and there's all these witches like singing. Dude, it was so creepy.
There's just like I don't know twelve I want to say, because it's a witchy number. But just like ladies with the I don't think winefold on. They have like paint on their faces, and they're all wearing white dresses and how they have fire Yeah, somehow their eyes are obscared and they're just like really eerily singing and it's so creepy, and there's candles everywhere, like a
weird off key song. It sounds like some kind of creepy chant that you don't want to even hear, because you feel like you're gonna get cursed. And Papa's just like, yeah, the weird people come down here, just ignore them. So Benji's hanging back and he turns the camera towards the witches and he sees the girl from the club really sharply turn her head and stare at the camera, and we all know it's her. I still wonder like maybe she just sought him out or I don't know. I hate when movies
don't explain. Maybe she was just part of the devil and my big Peace explain you fucking min I know, like this is what you're supposed to. So that already gets them unnerved. And then Papa's like, okay, here you go. This is exactly where we're gonna go. And it's a wall of bones and they're like, what what do you mean? This is?
This is where we're gonna go. And Scarlett gets the map and she's like, actually put them like her Hermione granger, we have to go here, and he's like, actually, we fucking don't, because I'm the one, like who's telling us where to go. And she's like, no, we have to go this way, and he's like, dude, you don't know which caves are flooded on that side. You don't know which rooms are you know, closed off. You don't know what she's talking about, Like,
just listen to me. She's like, no, I'm a strong, independent treasure hunter. I know where I'm gonna go. I've done this before, and I'll go without you type of thing. And he's like, Okay, you want to know the real story. We had a friend who like being down here and he knew the caves like the back of his hand. We called him the Mole and I remember his French name Lato. Yeah, but he's like we called him Latop and one day he went down exploring on that
side of the cave and we never heard from him again. And it was like two years ago. And this guy was like an expert of the caves, like those weird witchy people who obviously spend a lot of time down there, but this guy like ventured in the depths of Yeah, like he's the only reason Pap and Suxi and z all know roughly where they're going because of Mole. He taught them the way because you could get lost down there forever. Yeah, I'm sure hundreds of people did. The path they took wasn't
the only path. They made lefts and rights as they went because of how they were being led by pat Would you have been okay with climbing over all of those like skulls and bones into that tiny little hole that's like this big? I am so claustrophobic. I can't even sleep with things touching me, like besides a blanket, I don't like anything touching me when I sleep. I need to feel like free. And no, I couldn't crawl through those bones. Plus they look sharp. What if you get cut? You're just
like Benji. They're sharp. There's gonna be wrapped in there. I would have acted exactly like Benji. Yeah, in that moment, I was like, I would have just left, been like, you guys have cameras by I'm gonna go get arrested by the cops and be safe. Yeah. I would have been like, the cops are already gone from there. I bet I'm risking it, Like I would go, oh, you know, let's say everyone who's here before we continue on the movie. So, the main
character of Scarlet, her friend George. He is ben Feldman, and there's Benji cameraman. There's Zed, he's like their explorer friend. He was the like the climber one. He was good with like the climbing ropey stuff. I don't remember the word. Then there's Suxxie, it's PAP's girlfriend. And the sixth and final person is Pap pat Beyond, who is like the leader of this bad day group of explorer people. So that's all the characters and
they start climbing over the bones. Pap goes for Suxxi, Zaid Scarlet, even George goes through, and Benji is a big guy. Like we said, he gets stuck between the bones and the rocks and he starts getting paranoid instantly. He's like, okay, I'm gonna die here. I'm stuck. I'm stuck in dude, just back up, move some bones go through. You're gonna be okay. He's like hyperventilating, and then all of a sudden, you hear the witches singing their songs and it sounds like they're like right
on top of him. They him so and he's like, why are they screaming? You know long? Where are they singing so loud? And they're like, dude, calm down. Calm down, dude. Did you think that he was gonna get grabbed by that lady who's wallowing him? Yeah? I thought he was dead right then? Yeah, me too. But he doesn't. He ends up pushing his way through, and after all the commotion and they get out, they somehow are exactly where they started and they're like,
please don't tell me, we just went in a circle. He's like, that's impossible to straight line. Like you can see it's a straight line. There's no way we turned yet there is the door that he didn't want to go in, and she's like, well we have to, and he's like, you know, I'm just telling you it's evil, Like you don't know what's evil, what evil is down here? And let's scout. So they go and let's creep me out. Was the water like they got pretty
high at one point that would scare me. Sometimes they had to like dive under and ship. Oh my god, she gets taken by the things in the water, I screamed. And as they're going through these catacombs, they all just start seeing little I don't know if they're hallucinations or if they're really there, but they all see things from their past, almost all of them get explained, except like two of them, just not Paps and Benji's.
But right as they go into the little door that Pep didn't want to go into, I don't understand how someone could have gone through the door before because they haven't like break it. Yeah, it was like a stone slab, like how But they get to that side and they see Paps tag mark on that side because he tagged everywhere he's been, and Scarlett looks at him, is like, she's like, are you fucking with us? You've never been on this side? Okay, why is your thing right here? Then?
And he's like, I swear to you, I don't know what's happening, and this place is evil and we should leave. It's because everywhere they just went is where they like went, you know what I mean, Like wherever he tagged Pap and he even tagged his own tag at one point, like another one in the cave. Now, it's like they're starting all the way back over and then even when they go back, they like go through it like again, it's really weird. George sees a piano down there and he's
like, that's weird. I had a piano exactly like this when I was a kid, And he's like, and we only know one song, and he plays the song and the same key is broken, and you can tell everyone is like freaked out. Before they can even respond to that weird thing that just happened, they hear a phone ring and they're like, there shouldn't be any phones down here, and for some reason, Scarlett feels compelled to
answer it, even though everyone was telling her not to. And when she answers the phone to man's voice and it said, Scarlet, why didn't you answer the phone? And we find out that Scarlett's dad committed suicide and the night he did it, she had a bunch of missed calls from him and she didn't answer the phone. So she feels like it was her fault. Yeah, I mean, I see why since her fault, and why does she feel so guilty? That's why she has to finish his life's work so
like he can rest easy, I guess. So, as they continue through the catacombs, they find themselves solving like riddles, only things like people who would know about this would do. So. As they continue after the telephone, a tunnel collapses behind them. They end up being able to get their way out of that, and they all see Mole and I'm not sure if they saw him for real this time or if he was just a vision because they all felt guilty about never actually looking for him down there, you know,
yeah, I don't know. But when they get reunited, he puts them on blasts. He's like, you never even looked for me. You didn't even try. They go, do you know the way out? And he responds the only way out is down? And they're like, what the hell are you talking about? Like, how does that make any sense? What would you say if someone says that to you? I would say that doesn't make any sense. But it's hard to follow him, and they're like
should we be following him? And even Pap is like, I don't know, I don't know if we should trust him, Like they don't know, but they have no other choice. You can tell that Paple used to like trust him with his life, like obviously they were like super close, but if he was like, I don't know if we should do this because he knew it wasn't like the real him. Obviously something was off, but part of you wants to be like, oh, it's just being down here.
He's just a little traumatized. It's just a little different. Now. You gotta listen to your instincts though, guys. Yeah, you have to trust your instincts man, and don't do stupid sh like this. When he says the only way out is down, they find themselves at the base of a hole that looks to be like three hundred feet down. They all get their ropes ready, they get their little hardnesses on, and they prepare to repel down the rope. Benji's never done it, and he ends up really wrote
burning his hands because he wasn't holding himself correctly. If you've never done it, it can be hard to get the motion down. I go rock climbing pretty often, so I would like now once they get down. After that, they're in this really tight tunnel and they like hear this loud alarm blaring. It's kind of strength, sounds like a trumpet or just some really loud sound. And there shouldn't be anything loud down there. They're supposedly like six
hundred ft underground now, like there should be nothing here. That's actually when they see little boys now, not earlier when I said it's now, I
think I remember that then as they're walking more following moll. They find a door and all of a sudden, like mole is gone and they're at a dead end and they're like, what the hell And they find out they're in another puzzle room and the puzzle has something to do with which number rock to pull, And at first I wanted to pull five because of something, but then I'm like, no, oh, like the numbers of the planets and yeah, yeah, yeah, because I guess back then they consider the moon
and the sun planets. So they decided to pull the seventh one and they survived. It just reminded me of when we were little kids and we would like solve games. You know, we didn't have the Internet to look up what to do, and we had to just sit there as little kids and figure out these mind altering puzzles. Dude, we still love puzzle books and shit, I think we need to do an escape room. I think we'd be good at it. I feel like we'd be good at it. When
you come visit, we'll go in one. Okay, they get into this other room from pulling that, and they find that the wall says vitriol, and like, they skip over it pretty fast. But when I watched it again. It says visit the interior parts of the Earth and something something something, And it's just as kind of like that's where they are right now. They are in the interior parts of the earth, exploring. Maybe if they would have taken some time to like really decipher these clues, maybe it could
have turned out a little better. And the middle of the room is Nicholas Flamel's spotting right there, and you know he supposedly died what like how many te years ago? Many he died along, Yet his body looks like he's just asleep on this stone slab. How can he look like that the rats would have eaten him, he would have decomposed. He was like still alive, but he was dead, but like recently dead. Yeah, Like he didn't look decayed at all. Right, before they came in, that room
was a house like and so he like just died. And she tells them, I know, there's a good body in the middle of the room, but we need to turn off our headlamps. And they're like no, no, no, but they do it anyways, And then when they do, there's a little light coming from the floor. And when they go to the floor, it's actually water, and she has to feel around. She dives under and she like pushes down a like wallowing over loose rocks, and she
decides to swim. Dude, she didn't know how long that would have gone on. She didn't know how deep she was going. She's so brave. I couldn't have done that either. I can't swim if I don't see where I'm going. Dude, it was hell scary. And then above that, they get themselves in like the treasure room, and didn't they remind you kind
of like a like Aladdin, like everyone knows not to touch shit. And then there's this like beautifully painted picture on the wall and she deciphers it as like the Earth and the Sun used to be married, and then they had a baby and it was the moon, and every single day of the moon tears apart the Sun and the Earth and blah blah blah. And she gets the wanna be Philosopher's stone that looks exactly like the one in Harry Potter.
It does, and she grabs it and they pan over and Moles just standing there staring at them, looking at the treasure so creepily like he's such a creep but with that stone there, don't you think that was way too obvious of it to be the Sorcerer's stone. Yeah, why didn't she think of that? Because she was so overwhelmed by like, oh my gosh, this is actually real. Even in her dad's book it was like that. Drawn I was like, yo, be careful too, like, don't be stupid.
But she's like, nope, it has to be the surreal. It has to be this easy. Oh yeah, all right. As she removes the fake Philosopher's Stone, the fake Philosopher's Stone, Z and Pap are pulling off the iron bars in front of all the treasure. She's like, it's a trap. Almost all of them make it, but Suxie she gets stuck. They end up being able to move the rocks to save her. Now they're stuck in the collapsed part. Everyone's freaking out. Scarlett's like, just
look around. There has to be a clue. He wouldn't have made it so he would just die down here. And on the ceiling, Zed sees the door and she's like, what does it say. George translates it and it says as above so below, and she's like, that must be that. There's a door down here, She like, moves this rock. It's the door they go through. She starts telling him about the whole philosophy of
alchemy, which was like everything that is or has been. Remember, they go through the hidden door, and they find themselves elves at another tunnel, and above the tunnel is marked abandoned all hope ye who enter here, which is the saying that is also on the entrance to Hell. And as Scarlett's about to crawl through it, she looks back at the camera and she's like, and they shall be made to crawl onto their bellies into the darkness.
And it's just, as you know, really creepy for them, because here they are crawling through this place that's like labeled as hell like and they're probably as down as they said philosophers think it's that far down. As they exit the tunnel, they find themselves back in the treasure room, untouched, and they're like, what the fuck? We were just here. When they turned to go back through the tunnel, the entrance is gone, and when they
turned back, Mole is standing there. I know this is bad because it's my favorite part of the movie because someone dies, But it just it was so unexpected to me, that's always our favorite parts of movies too. He's standing there being creepy, and me and Amarellas both think that Susie used to be the Mole's girlfriend, but then when he went missing, she like shacked up with his best friend, Pap, and so she felt really guilty awkward,
and she wanted to comfort him. And maybe he's acting here because she saw them together. She doesn't know, but she starts going up to him. If you were standing there, creepy, I would like get water and splash you in the face. Like I'm not gonna go and try to touch you, dude. I would like to throw a rock. There's so many rocks you're on the ground. Just get a rock and throw it. Hey
moll hey, hey homie, you okay, you're right man. You don't ever ever go touch somebody like that who's like just standing there creepy, because then this happens. What happens, Well, I'll tell you what happens. He grabs her by the throat, throws her in there, smashes her skull against a fucking rock like five times, and you see that blood just coming out, and it's like face down. It's done, really well, this no boys, it's like unbearable and everyone's like sexy. They pull out the
stone. They try to heal her with it, but unfortunately it can't bring back the dead. They make really harsh decision to just leave her there, and they go basically back through every single thing they've already been through. They go through the tunnels where they hear the weird sounds. It's just like a mirror image of it, which I think is really cool. They go back to the room where they had to pull the seventh stone. They go back
over to that water where they had to swim under. When they are going back down to repel the three hundred feet where Benji burned his hands, you can hear someone yells scarlet and it's like, what the fuck likes someone chasing her or she going towards it, like, we don't really know. And then Benji is last. If you knew someone was already bad at repelling the first time, why would you let them go last? I don't know.
But they let him go last, and he starts hearing whispering and when he turns around, he sees the same witch that's been following him the whole movie, and she pushes him down and he's dead. Splat. That was like probably the nicest, quickest murder probably in the whole movie. And it just sucks because like he didn't want to go down there in the first place. He didn't want to do any of this. He was just like making a documentary. He thought he was cool. And there's like this demon witch lady
chasing him. Yeah, why would that make him go last? And then he just like falls, just like probably over a hundred feet just so. Then they get to the part where they had to crawl back over the bones, and this time George sees Danny drowning like under the bones and like they're looking at him like, you know, that's not real. You know it's
not hot. And then they get to another side of the tunnels and they hear yelling and they decided to follow it because they're crazy, and then you start hearing screams, and coming from the screams, you hear a fire crackling. There's like a car on fire. And it doesn't really explain throughout the movie, you see that they're getting like haunted by like their guilts, you know, what they're guilty for, and this is like PAP's guilty thing,
but it doesn't explain what it was. There was the kid who first told Scarlet in the Gang and the Tunnels to be like, hey, if you
want to go down to the catacombs, go find Pappion. And it was this kid, but he was burning to death in a car that was on fire, and Papa is like no, no, no, like I'm sorry, I'm sorry, and then like the kid from inside the car pulls Pep into the fire car and it like cartoon collapses into the ground and then he gets swallowed up by like the ground and just stops moving because he died. But his freaking leg was sticking out of the rock, like solid rock.
I think he might have had the worst death. That's why I said it was kind of cartoony. He's probably alive under their heaving to just breathe in the nothing, so you suffocate slowly, horrible. Then they hear horns and like trumpets, and that's when they see the man in a black cloak. Dude that would freak me out. It was the groom leaper that would freak me out. So they hide from him, and George can't take it anymore.
He pulls Scarlett's face, and he's like, I'm fucking in love with you, dude, even though you almost got me killed in a Turkish prison, that was the best year of my life. I'm in love with you. And she's like, oh my god, I'm so glad you're finally on board and stop being a pussy. So then they keep going and the guy in the black cloak is now sitting in a chair and it's hella, scary would you creep past it? Or would you run fast past it? Throw a rock at it? You and rocks? I think I would book it,
dude. So with the scary cloakman demons thing in the chair and they're like sneaking past him, there's like creepy ass faces on the walls. If you've ever Dante's Inferno, obviously this is kind of their take on it, but like the scary ass faces in the wall that are trying to get them.
It's just it's spooky, the scary ass faces on the wall, which Hawthorn thinks is what happened to pap Like what if everyone who tried to venture down there and who got like swallowed into the ground just became scary wall faces. That's very very possible. So after that, one of them gets George I don't remember how, but like gets him in the neck and he's like
dying, and she's like, what the hell. Scarlet and Zed both drag him to quote unquote safety which is like a dead end, so not really safe, while there's like again people coming after them still and she tries to get the stone, and she tries to get someone puts them on him and it's not helium. She's like, why isn't it working? Why isn't it working? And then George says, vitrio, Yeah, VI's real. Remember what that means in Latin? It refers to the Philosopher's Stone being discovered only
by rectification. She says, it's another riddle that means only by returning it to its original spot where you find the real stone. Yes, and she's like, well, shit, z, I know we're all dying. Stay here, protect George and I will be back. And this is my favorite part because like she is fueled by her love for that boy. I have felt that, and like he just confessed it to her. She knew she felt the same, but like he was all pissed about the Turkish thing.
She didn't want to bring it up. I felt this where you just go into like this intense like I need to protect this person and I don't care what happens to me. I need to do whatever I can for this person because I love them. Let's do it. Let's do it. And this girl, she's like, fuck all of this, I'm done. It's like when you have ten HP on a game and you gotta like run through all the monsters to the end because you're like, I'm not I can't reset the
level. It's my last life, my last life. The game's gonna break and hat off if I don't do this right now, Like let's go hell yeah, And you're like, I'm not battling anyone, yep, I sendra Konis all the time. We just run past. She's like going as fast as she fucking can, and she goes past all like the Demon people, passes the fucking Grim Reaper, past Benji's dead body and has to fast climb
back up the fucking thing. Yeah, the whole swim through the water, but somehow it turned into his like ridiculous blood and things are like grabbing at her and you just know something's gonna pop out and ice arms. When she comes out of the water and she like gets pulled back in. I screamed,
like a bitch. M That's what I'm talking about. But with all of this, like through the water everything, she also gets into a tunnel and you see her dad, like her dad's hanging body because he killed himself, and she goes up to him, goes up to his body, and she's like, I'm sorry, didn't answer the phone. I'm sorry. Yeah, And he's like, is at peace? Yeah, you just have to repent your sins basically is what it was saying. Yeah, and that's what
no one could do. I feel like George survived because he like he survives his whole thing with his brother. When he saw his brother Johnning, he admitted it. Plus I think it's because he went in the caves, Like he went through those caves and he swore he'd never go on caves again. He admitted like his guilt with his brother. And once you admit it, it's just like okay, you're done, Like it's the one step. It's
kind of crazy. Z's secret was that he had a son he never has met, even though he knows it's his, Like it looks just like him, and he denies that it's his. And then after she sees the dad, she keeps going all the way through all her little tunnels and ship and she gets back into the treasure room and she puts the stone back and she's like, here you go, here you go. I'm sorry, and she
puts the back workhouse. She's done, and there's a mirror right there, and she looks at it and it's like dirty, but like because it's old. So she like touches it and you see her face reflected in it, and then you just like, Okay, I'm magic now, because she's magic now. She becomes the stone. Yeah, she becomes the stone. That's why Flamel's freaking body was still like that, because he is like the stone,
yeah, until someone else got it, which was her. After she does this again, she's like, okay, round three, guys, and she has to go from in the cave again into the water. The water turns back into water. She sees her dad's hanging dead, hanging body and she gives it like a hug, and she's like, I'm sorry, and it disappears. That's done. She goes through. She sees the guy in the black cloth but she's like magic now because anything that comes near her it's
it's it's just Harry Potter. It's like how Quarrel couldn't touch Harry because he's like magic like that. We're kind of like a Mario when you have like a blinky star on you, you know, the superstar thing, you can like run through that shit. Because she like pushed one of those monsters faces and shattered, like what sh That's when they find themselves at the edge of the big ass hole again, and Scarlet now understands everything. She knows that
the only way down is out, the only way out is down. They're like, dude, if we jump down this hole, we will die. She tells them the only way out is down, and they're like that saws to make sense. And she's like, they will kill us if we do not jump. But before you jump, you have to admit like we have been saying, like your sins repents all that kind of shit. Everyone does repent and Jesus will forgive you. They hold hands and they jump. They
jumped down, but they end up upside down. Right side up? Yeah, like upside down, Okay, you don't know if you're right side up or not like that's how they were. And then they think they're trapped and she's like, no, dude, we're at the end. And he's like, how do you know? How do you know? And sure enough they see a manhole cover on the ground and they try to pull it. They try to pull on it. It won't budge. But if you pushed down on it, AKA pushed up on it as if it was like above your
head, but this is down below them. It's crazy because she puts her hand up and it looks like she's putting her hand down, but it's really up, you know. Yeah, it's weird to you. And then they climb through the hole, but you see them hoisting themselves up. It's really cool, like because they put the camera through first. Right when they're all three of them are free, the only survivors, Scarlet, George and zed Zed books it. He's like later, yep, He's like, I'm done.
I won't talk to y'all ever again. By yeah, and Scarlett and George's hug and in the end all she says it's the beginning of her documentary getting interviewed Benji and he's like, why are you doing this? You know, like for money or whatever. She's like, I'm not a treasure hunter. I just I just want the truth. That's all I love. And that's exactly how it ended. What do you write the movie out of five? Probably four? I liked it, Okay, okay, maybe it's three
point eight point eight. Let's say that it's okay. I didn't love it. I like it. O good. What about you? I really liked the movie. I'll begin a four because I think it is scary. If you can put yourself there. That really freaked me out because I was in the dark. Especially if you've ever been in a claustrophobic situation or even just a dark situation, it really gets you. I think it's definitely worth the watch, especially if you will know a lot about this kind of stuff like
mythology and philosophy and shit. It's really interesting that they took it and did it this way. But yeah, I highly recommend it. Our promo for this week is Pinto Comics. LaPlante aka the Townsend Murderer, and here we go. Daniel J. LaPlante had a horrible childhood. He was bullied in school for being dyslexic, having poor hygiene. Kid said that he was just creepy looking and really just socially awkward. Is that a little brother?
It was probably because his home life wasn't any better. In fact, it was far worse. At home. He was being verbally, physically, emotionally and sexually abused by his stepfather. Gross school officials referred him to a psychiatrist to receive help for his personality disorder called hyperactivity disorder, which is essentially ADHD,
but unfortunately, his psychiatrists began sexually abusing him as well. Jesus Christ, a poor kid being let down by almost every adult in his life, la Plant began breaking into people's homes to gain some kind of control in his life. By the age of fifteen, he was breaking into people's homes, and he wasn't just taking their possessions. He would also leave items behind in the home too. Unlike normal burglars, the Plant wouldn't take obvious things.
He liked to take something unnoticeable, and he would also move things around in people's homes. It's so creepy. He would do so in such a way that it was clear someone had entered their home, but they would have no idea at first. What was messed with. What he loved the most was
the mind games he played with them. Can you imagine coming home to your apartment after a hard day of work and the door was ajar, so you know someone was there, and you know you locked the door and everything seems fine, but all of a sudden, you're like, wait, I didn't leave my hairbrush there. My couch shouldn't be there. Can you imagine how scary that would be? You know I live alone. You know I hear creepy f found in my apartment, and you know my door doesn't really work.
Stop freaking me out like this, Jess. One time I came home and I guess I hadn't closed my door all the way. I used to leave my sliding glass door about a foot open so my dogs could go one and out before I had the doggy door installed, and I guess like the wind, you know, like the backdraft whatever didn't let the door click. So when I came home later, my door was ajar and I really thought someone had like broken in my house killed my dogs. I remember that wasn't
either. I think you actually were there for that, and I like made you and my child waiting in the car while I went around the house with a screwdriver. Yeah. Yeah, I'd opened a door and I'd start swinging and I was like, Okay, no one's there. But the weird thing was my dogs didn't make any noise, so it's just weird. I learned the other day that even if I locked the bottom of the door and shut it, sometimes it won't fully go, So you could just pull it and
it's still open despite being locked. So that's cool. Yeah, we have to do that on our bedroom door. And I had a nightmare about that recently too. I mean, our houses are safe, guys, don't kill us. We're talking about our doors not working and shit, everyone's taken notes. So this happened in the eighties. In case you're running a time, we're in. So in nineteen eighty six, Danny and the Plant was now sixteen, He obtained the phone number and address of a family in the local
area of Townsend, Massachusetts. In this home lived the Andrews family, consisting of a father named Brian and his two daughters. Their names are Annie Andrews and Jessica Andrews. They were both around the age of La Plant. The sisters began to talk with Danny on the phone and before you freak out, you'd finished. And this was the eighties and a lot of people did this. His ruse was simple. He said that he got their number from a
friend at school. He described himself as a good looking, athletic blonde who was well educated and lived in the area. Annie and LaPlante began talking on the phone a lot and soon decided to go on a day and meet in person. When La plant arrived at Annie's doorsteps, she was shocked to see that the boy she had been talking to was the exact opposite of who he
said he was. Instead of being a hot, tall, blonde jock like she was expecting, he was a greasy, short dorc Annie, being a sweetheart, still went out with him on a date, but after about an hour she made an excuse and went home. During that hour, however,
she actually shared a lot about her personal life with him. She had told him that her mother had recently passed away due to cancer, and you would think someone would be like, oh my god, I'm so sorry, like you, okay, But LaPlante asked inappropriate questions and wanted to hear in great detail every aspect of her mother's death. He asked her how she felt at the exact moment her mother died. He wanted to know how much she suffered.
Our grandpapasty almost a year ago, and I can't even like talk about it, so dude, I start crying anytime I think about it. Long story short, she didn't want to go out with him again, but he wouldn't go away. One night, Annie and her sister Jessica attempted to contact their mom through a seance in their basement. Like normal teenager would do.
They grabbed a Buiji board and got to work. They didn't expect anything to actually happen, but later that night the girls awoke they heard a little knocking on their wall. They began to speak with the unknown being, and they truly started to believe that they were talking to their mother. They would ask the spirit yes or no questions by having an answered by knocking on the wall. This continued for a few nights straight. They really thought that they had
figured out a way to talk to their mom again. That's so sad. Oh my gosh, I know. I feel like that's something me and you would do if we were like younger. They'd try to talk to Grandma again. Soon, the knocking began to interfere with the girl's sleep. As the days went by, shit started to happen. Objects in the house began to disappear, like they would leave something on the table, go to school, and when they would come back that shit would be all over the floor.
One time they came home and all the furniture was moved from one side of the living room to the other. That's so much work just to fuck with them, though I know, Jessica and Annie believed that they were being haunted by a malevolent demon and not the spirit of their mom. Makes sense, Brian Andrews. The dad believe that the girls were doing all this weird stuff for attention. They told them that they did a seance and that they had
unknowingly let a vengeful ghost into their home. The dad refused to believe such absurdity. He just thought that this was their way of dealing with their mother. Everyone copes in different ways. They really want my attention. And this actually went on for quite a while. In January of nineteen eighty seven, the strange knocking had begun well. Jessica and Annie were alone in the front room. The knocking was so frequent that they felt like they were going to
go insane. Every time it was just them at home, they would just hear knocking everywhere they went. But this night it was different. Instead of sounding like it was coming in the walls, the knocks were coming from in the basement. The girls went to the kitchen and grabbed a big gass knife and they crept down to the basement. Once they were there, they saw a message written and read on the wall, and it said I'm in your room, come and find me. The girls got the fuck out of the
house without hesitation. They went to the neighbor's house and they called her dad, begging him to come home. When he rushed home, he was like pissed. He was like, why are you doing this? And kind of everyone thought they were just like some kind of hoax or something. A few weeks after that attack, if you will, the girls heard the knocking sounds and this time they came right behind Annie's bedroom wall. When the girls entered
the room, they were greeted with another message written and read. It said I'm back find me if you can. Just as before they ran out the house, they went to the neighbor. They called her dad. When he got home, he ran right inside to prove that there was no one in there. However, when he entered the house, he noticed that it was fucked up way more than ever before, and he knew the girls couldn't have done this, and like the short amount of time that he had been gone.
When he entered Annie's room, there was another message, and this one said marry me. Then on the other side of the room, Brian saw him. Laplant was standing there wearing one of his deceased wife's dresses. Jesus. He also had on her makeup, a blond wig and was holding a hatchet. He had tried to disguise himself to actually look like the dead mother. A struggle ensued between Laplant and Brian, but he was able to escape.
Brian didn't understand how he had disappeared from his sight so quickly, especially in his own home. That's when he called the police. When they arrived, they found out how he had been playing Houdini. After searching the house for clues on how Laplant may have been able to get any access to the house, one officer had found a hidden crawl space in a cupboard. It was built into the wall of Annie's bedroom. When the officer opened the hatch,
Daniel Plant was there, curled up inside. The officers removed him and arrested him, thank God. Upon further inspection of the crawl space, they had discovered that he had actually been living there for weeks. He had been crawling through the walls and carving little holes to watch the family and torment them. He only got one year in juvie for this. That's it, yep.
And when he was released in October of nineteen eighty seven, it only took him a month before he started doing bannes again, and I don't mean bacon and eggs. In December of nineteen eighty seven, he broke into the Gustafson family home. Inside the home was pregnant Priscilla Gustafson, who was only thirty three. She was home with her two young kids, Abigail and William, while her husband, Andrew, was at work. When Andrew got home
from work, he walked into his worst nightmare. He found his wife, Priscilla, laying face down on their bed, the pillows dyed red with her blood. She had been shot multiple times in the head at a point blank range. She had also been sexually assaulted. Andrew called the police and when they arrived, they searched the rest of the home and that's when they found
the bodies of Andrew's two children drowned in different bathtubs. Five year old William was drowned in the upstairs bathroom, while eight year old Abigail was drowned in the downstairs bathroom. Laplant's reasons for these gruesome moods remain unknown. The police found a handful of items that were used as restraints. Other evidence led them
to believe that this is how it went down. They think Laplant forced his way into the home, and Priscilla, being pregnant and having two young children, there wasn't much she could do. Next, he held her and the children at gunpoint and restrained them. It is believed that he killed Priscilla first, and he drowned the children one by one last. It didn't take them long to link Laplant to the Gustafson family murders, though a lot of weird
stuff had already been happening and he was like their go too. When he got wind of this, he fled and a manhunt ensued. La Plant was considered to be armed and dangerous, especially with all the ship he had been doing. On his run from the law, he broke into a woman's home and kidnapped her and made her like drive in her car. She was able to escape, and thankfully someone spotted him after seeing his photo on the news. Again, this is the eighties. That's how she got done, and
they found him hiding in a dumpster two days later. Once they searched his body, they found one of Abigail the eight year old's hairs in his sock, and that linked him directly to the murder. In nineteen eighty seven, so about one year after the murders, Daniel la plant was sentenced to three life sentences for the murder of the Gustafson family. My swarches for this case were wbird dot org, hackbrain dot net, parkaman dot com, and watpad
dot com. Weird. I know I chose this murder because in the movie as above so below, Moule was living in the tunnels for a long time and killed Suxi soon after he was found, And in this case, LaPlante was living in the crawl space in the Andrew's home for a long time and once he was released from jail, he soon killed after. I know it tie is very loosely, but like it just seemed kind of like mold to me. Like LaPlante has like dark hair, and like he's pale and has
like a small facial features, and he's weird. He just seemed like mole. Like this is something that mole would do. That's how I felt, like, what if he was able to get out with all of them? And then he like, I don't know, and he was only seventeen. Every one of the movies seemed really young, and his name sounds French. So that's how I linked the murder. This week, I just thought,
it's funny how you like he's kind of like a mole. He was like hiding in the ground, and he was he was like hiding in the house. Still, ladies, amreless. Was story do you have for us today? My story is from No Sleep and it was posted five years ago by someone named unidentified underscore BA, who I'm sure is an unidentified badass, and it is entitled Stranded in Hell. I did everything for her. Please remember that, and I will start at the beginning. My wife and I we
awoke in a suspended cage. All of our clothes were torn in pieces, but our bodies were fine. The cage was dirty and bare, and the only thing in it was us. Outside the bars of the cage was an unending landscape of jagged rock, featureless except as the things that moved across its surface. People and things that were not people. This is how my wife and I woke up in hell. We were both rational, but rationality only lasts so long. We cried and screamed for help until we moved past emotion.
The cage was our home for a time, but eventually hunger forced us to make a decision. The cage was unlocked, why would it not be. It was hung from the ceiling with a massive chain suspending us thousands of feet from the floor. The landing was not soft, but in hell, your body never stays broken. We learned this after we jumped. We walked for a very long time. Many people around us had either given up, choosing to lay on the floor or moan, or they walked like we did.
My wife and I. She kept me going, and I like to think I helped her keep going as well. The things that were not people were the only true reminder of where we were all different from the next. Some of them were massive, crushing people in their wake. Others worked like a hive, a single mind for countless bodies. All of them had teeth and claws stained from use. There was a ceiling, so there had to be walls. It was a goal, at least, something to do amidst
the terrible hunger pain. The ceiling was as flat as the land before us. Its only feature was a gaping hole that only the rugged winged creatures could travel away out. Possibly I did everything for her a long enough time, and you get used to anything. Hell seemed almost redundant. The sound of unending pain was boring, and the sound of bone cracking was common. Only two things needed to be avoided, the dark and the sacs. Sacs like
egg sac and the shadow of the greater creatures. People sunk into the floor, almost as if the dark came alive through desperate fighting and screams lost to the total blackness. We only saw this twice. The other peril the sacks were large, unmoving and made from burned flesh. My wife and I watched a man limp to one. It screamed at him, a high piercing noise
that there was closer from our vantage point. I thought of a siren briefly before the man was spread with blood, the force of it sending him backwards. My right arm was also covered, and I began to itch with a force I thought impossible before my eyes. My arm became a deep red as it hardened like steel, my fingers sharpening in my terror. I paid little attention to the monster that sprang up from the place the man landed. The
sacks was the forges in which demons were made. My arm never stopped itching, and my attempts to satisfy it with my left hand and my finger nails cracked and broken. But I had a way to provide for my wife. I used my arm to cut and main people, stealing clothes, food, shelter. We forgot our pain by forcing it on others. I did everything and more for her. There was no way to keep track of time, But it was so long before I forgot my name. The only thing I
never forgot was my wife and my love for her. Well Goddess in the end was one of those sacks, the sirens. The call of them was undenied table at least to my wife. I tried to stop her, but she was always faster, and my arm maide running impossible with its great weight. So I followed her, screaming and begging her to listen to me, But she was so coated and the sick blood of that thing. By the time I got to her, her body grew larger, her arms longer,
almost tentacle like. Her screaming deepened as her feminine form was lost to the changing. I cannot imagine the agony she was in. Her head grew horns, her back grew great leather wings. Her legs fell off at the knee with a snap. Once her transformation was done, she gave me a knowing, pained look. I had tears in my eyes, the first true liquid I felt since we got down here. I was picked up by one of
her new arms, and a flap of her wings took us up. I felt the wind ripping through me, the roar of our fellow demons as we tore through the hole in the ceiling, darkness taking over us. My waking mind found myself sitting in the smashed car. The truck had hit us head on, sending my alcohol containers all over the interior. I knew they were mine because my wife did not drink. In the passenger seat, my wife's legs were crushed, my own arm hanging limply by the smallest amount of flesh
possible. I looked into her dimming eyes, her irises bright red and glowing with fire, before she shut them forever. She did everything for me I'll never forgive myself and I don't think I should. And that's my story, dude. That was good. I obviously picked it because hell and demons, and also how like guilty he feels and everything he was feeling like transmitted into like his own hell that he saw. And you know, when you're in like a traumatic event, it it feels like it goes on forever. So
that's what he was feeling. It's just like in the movie, like they have all this creepy shit happening down in Hell and they don't know what's real. They don't know what's anything. We don't even know how long they were down there exactly. And then just like the whole should I forgive myself? I have to forgive myself. It was my fault, guilty conscience type of
shit. That's it. That was my story, dude. If you wouldn't have felt bad about her getting blasted with that demon blood thing, she wouldn't helped him out or they wouldn't have been saved. I don't think. Yeah, yeah, that felt really good, better than mine anyway. That was my story. Cool. We don't know a movie we're doing next. We're kind of on the fence. Between like two of them. But no, no, no, I think we know what movie we're gonna do, but
