Episode description

“The Great Soul” (or “Grande Anima” in Italian) is the name of a spectacular work by artist Marcantonio (@marcantonio, #grandeanima), displayed inside the Airport of Fiumicino. It recreates the skeleton of a whale - a legendary beast at the forefront of several stories and legends throughout human history. Here, the artwork by Marcantonio calls back to the real-life story of a gray whale which, in the spring of 2021, mysteriously appeared in the Mediterranean Sea. Although The Great Soul aims to dazzle the viewer and invite them to wonder and dream, the pressing issue of climate change also prompts us to reflect on our own future and that of the other species on our planet.
