Transcript

Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language sixty seconds at a time! I'm Lauren Smyth, and recently someone asked me how I think AI will change the writing industry. I've asked myself this question, too. Am I going to be out of a job in two years? Is writing a dying profession? It's tough to fit the answer into sixty seconds, but as someone who has been publishing books and freelancing for eight years, I'm going to say--no, I'm not worried about AI taking my job. There are several reasons why. Firstly, AI can't make anything unless you instruct it. It can't write a pitch for your business, for example, unless you tell it all the details of how your business works--and by then, you will have basically written your own pitch. The second and probably more important factor is that the prevalence of AI-generated content puts a premium on real human creativity. I think AI-generated content is a good reminder to us all of why humans can never be fully replaced by machines. Maybe it sounds kind of artsy and abstract to suggest that human souls will always be better than machines, but ... I think we've all read enough science fiction to agree that there's something to the idea. That's your Grammar Minute! Visit thegrammarminute.com for more tips and tricks.
