Then. Than. Thaen? Learn the difference between these words on today's episode of Grammar Minute!

Transcript

Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language sixty seconds at a time! I'm Lauren Smyth, and I like to say I'm a better runner than my dad. Then we will argue about this and finish the debate by going for a run at exactly the same speed for exactly the same amount of time. That's irrelevant, depending on who you ask. But what's not irrelevant is the difference between "then" and "than." While the pronunciation may be almost identical, these two words don't mean the same thing. Then, t-h-e-n, refers to time or logical results. It happened back then. Well, then, I'm just going to run faster. Than, T-H-A-N, is making a comparison. I'm a better runner than him. He thinks he is a better runner than me. That's your Grammar Minute! Visit thegrammarminute.com for more tips and tricks.
