Transcript

Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we're saving the English language sixty seconds at a time! This is probably the last episode I'll make before I graduate from college, so I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone at Hillsdale College who has listened to this show, given me topic ideas, and just generally made this projct possible. Never fear: Grammar Minute isn't going anywhere, it just won't be on-air at WRFH Radio Free Hillsdale forever. But you can still find it at thegrammarminute.com if you also feel the English language still needs saving. Now, on to what you came for: Grammar. Should thank you ever be hyphenated? The answer, surprisingly, is yes. You don't need to do this when you're just saying "thank you" but when used as a noun or adjective, it needs a hyphen to make it clear that it's one item or one descriptor. For example, "thank-you note" should have this hyphen. "A quick thank-you" is a hyphenated noun. Don't write "thank you" as one word. It just doesn't look good. That's really the only reason not to do it. That's your Grammar Minute! Visit thegramamrminute.com for more tips an tricks.
