Transcript

Welcome to the Grammar Minute, where we’re saving the English language sixty seconds at a time! I’m Lauren Smyth, and today we have a fresh candidate for the Grammar Hall of Shame. I recently came across a book in a coffee shop—a real book published by a real publisher—called “You’re ok, your dog’s ok.” There were lots of problems with this. First of all, the only capitalized word was the first one, which left most of the book’s title in lowercase. Second, and probably worse, the first “you’re” was the correctly contracted form of “you are.” The second was the possessive form without the apostrophe. I mean, if you’re going to be wrong, why not be wrong consistently? You can’t just split your odds between two forms of “you’re.” You have to pick one or else guarantee you’ll be wrong. The final problem with this title was the spelling of “OK.” We’ll cover this and the other mistakes in this week’s episodes of Grammar Minute. Meanwhile, visit thegrammarminute.com for more tips and tricks.
