We want to give ourselves away 1. Jesus gives himself away for a rich harvest of glory 2. We give ourselves away for a harvest of life 3. The gospel and giving
We want to equip every member as a minister 1. Some are equippers 2. All are ministers 3. As saints minister, the body grows
Our sin runs deep, but God's grace runs deeper still. 1. Coveting is desire gone wrong. 2. Coveting is an inescapable sin. 3. Coveting can only be replaced with true love.
We can rest because God finished His work. 1. We can rest because God has finished His work of creation. 2. We can rest because God has finished His work of redemption.
We worship the true and living God, rather than idols and images of our own making. 1. God is the Creator, not the created 2. God is not found in what we make with our hands 3. God provides his own image
When Jesus opens our eyes, we are restored to joy. 1) Blindness leads to frustration. 2) Revelation leads to joy.
Lives transformed by grace face outwards (not inwards). 1. They face upwards to God in persevering prayer (vertical). 2. The face outwards towards others in wise walking (horizontal).
When Jesus is Lord, it redefines how I live all of my relationships. 1. The Lord redefines husbands and wives 2. The Lord redefines children and fathers 3. The Lord redefines slaves and masters
In light of what Christ has done, we can live a new life to God's glory. 1. The Christian has a new identity. 2. The Christian must put on a new character. 3. The Christian must walk a new walk.
The Christian life is fight against sin. 1. We must fight the sin our bodies. 2. We must fight the sin in Christ's body.
We can strive for holiness in this life, because Jesus Christ holds our life forever. 1. Keep your eyes on the prize. 2.The prize is yours now and forever.
In Christ alone do we find maturity and strength 1. Earthly man-made, regulations cannot help you. 2.Real life and growth only come from holding on to Jesus
Continuing to live IN CHRIST will keep you from being captured. 1. The truth that sets you free is the truth that keeps you free (6-7) 2. What the enemy has to offer is empty (8) 3. If your God is a giver, then you can no longer be a taker. 1. We are all takers by nature. 2. God is a giver by nature. 3.Takers are transformed into givers by the Great Giver Himself.
The Good News (gospel) is that God reconciles hostile sinners to himself. 1. You were hostile to Christ. 2. You've been reconciled by Christ. 3. Cling to Christ and his gospel.
God's grace comes before God's law 1) God give us His name 2) God gives us His salvation
Jesus Christ is Lord of Creation and Lord of our Salvation. He is our Creator, Sustainer and Redeemer. Since we have been reconciled by Christ, we should worship only Christ. Since Christ is reconciling to God all things in heaven and on earth, we should dissolve the wall between sacred and secular and engage a broken world in need of reconciliation.
God grows and matures those He has redeemed. 1. We thank God for what he has done. 2. We ask Him to continue His good work. 3. We thank Him for the redemption that makes growth possible.
Our only hope for enduring and finishing the race is to set our eyes on Jesus. We must look to Jesus to run with endurance We must consider Jesus to keep from growing weary
We need to know the background of the letter before we really dig in. So, we answer two basic questions: 1) Who is Paul? 2) Who are the Colossians? Message of Colossians = Jesus Christ is an ALL-sufficient Savior.
