Episode description

Welcome to Directora. In order to begin highlighting the amazing contributions of women in film, we have to start at the very beginning with Alice Guy-Blache, a prolific silent film director who was the first of her kind. The young French woman worked at a camera company and saw the potential for film to tell stories. As one of the inventors of narrative film, Alice Guy-Blache wrote and directed nearly 1,000 films between 1896 and 1920. She was at the top of her game, but her move to America changed everything.
