we begin with memorial day travel million flocking airports in the road the nor'easter has not made it easy ginger is standing by tracking the new threats but first let's go to matt rivers at la guardia airport good morning matt Good morning, Michael, and welcome to the tarmac here at LaGuardia Airport on one of the busiest travel days of the entire year. This American jet here at Gate 24, Terminal B, that one's going to be flying to Chicago in just a few hours. It's going to be full.
just like the majority of the roughly 6,500 flights that America is going to be operating nationwide. They're going to be transporting roughly three quarters of a million people. And that's just America, not to mention all the other carriers. So the advice, of course, on a day like today, get to the airport early.
This morning, that rare May nor'easter leading to messy travel for millions. The storm delaying hundreds of flights from New York to Boston Thursday. A little late in the season for nor'easter, isn't it? As a record number of people hit the roads and skies for the holiday weekend. Passengers packing airports coast to coast. Philly. Obviously there's nothing. That you can do about it, but these lines are ridiculous to Houston in Chicago
At Newark Airport, hundreds of flights were delayed Thursday. Air traffic control staffing issues have prompted the FAA to temporarily cut the number of planes allowed to take off and land there. and weather threats could make a bad situation even worse this weekend. And on the road, nearly 40 million people projected to travel by car, the highest number this century. Продолжение следует...
And so you can see how busy the runway here is behind me, Michael. Plane after plane taking off, just American alone, through Tuesday. And they say they're going to be taking off 38,000 flights. And by the end of the summer, it's one airplane, five airplanes rather, taking off.
every single minute. But we know this weekend it's more than just planes. Triple A saying that nearly 40 million people are expected to hit the roads. And so one of the advice around all of that, according to the experts over at Enrix, the time to drive is
before 11 a.m. 12 to 8 p.m. today. Expect it to be the worst times on the road in terms of traffic. So, Michael, I don't know what your plans are, but might I humbly suggest as soon as the broadcast is over, hit the road, my man. You want to beat those traffic. Yeah, you got to get ahead of ahead of it no matter when you leave on holiday weekend as I say pack your patience make sure you do that thank you my friend we appreciate you we're going to turn to ginger with the track and timing
the nor'easter good morning ginger you know when a party ends and you've got that one guest that's just still kind of hanging around that's like this low pressure system just hanging around the coast a little too long we can't get our party started and the winds
Busting still in coastal New England up to 50 miles per hour. So just watch for that. That will eventually move out. We're going to still see clouds, intermittent showers through Saturday in the northeast. But this is really the big picture.
that jet stream cuts us off right in the middle so anybody in blue there is going to be below average we're talking in the northeast some 5 to 15 degrees below average you want warmth you got to go to Texas or Florida even up the west coast they're getting a little toastier This weekend, right along that jet stream, though, you'll also have severe storms. So please, if you've got outdoor plans in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri.
flooding also going to come through Rebecca we're talking about up to a half a foot of rain so this is Not something to let go of because it's a holiday. Just keep on that for you. Yeah, keep on that forecast, and we appreciate you keeping on it. And you let that guest know it's time to go home. Time to go home. Thank you, Ginger. We're going to turn now to the deadly plane crash in a San Diego neighborhood.
on board are presumed dead no one on the ground was killed remarkably and this morning we are learning more about the victims as we hear from witnesses Trevor Alt is on the scene in San Diego good morning Trevor Good morning, Rebecca. And the damage here on the ground is just staggering. You can see this house behind me that took the initial impact.
But this plane then spread essentially down the block with an inferno. This is a military neighborhood, and we have heard from family after family who say they awoke to the sound of explosions and flames right up to their front door. This morning the harrowing aftermath of a fiery plane crash in San Diego. Six people on board, all feared dead. The police only confirming two fatalities at this hour.
The plane ripping open this home, several others catching fire. Reports of people trapped inside the residence. Come on, let's go! Let's go! Gilbert Gonzalez hoisting a ladder over the fence of the family next door to help them get to safety. Find the ladder! Find the ladder! There was a kid getting brought over the fence. It was handed down to me. I said, give me the kid. And then a second kid came down, so I'm holding two kids. Jet fuel igniting along the street. Cars exploding.
I just kept hearing explosions and the fire was up to like right in front of my front door. Investigators now combing through what they call a giant field of debris. The plane left almost unrecognizable. The Cessna 550 had taken off from Teterboro, New Jersey late Wednesday, stopping for fuel in Wichita, Kansas, before attempting to land in San Diego.
air traffic control warning of low visibility from dense fog The pilot responding in his final transmission Just shy of the runway the plane clipping a power line and slamming into the Murphy Canyon neighborhood at 3 47 a.m. ABC News has learned the plane belonged to well-known music agent Dave Shapiro.
Sound talent group saying he was one of those killed in the crash and Christian metal drummer Daniel Williams posting these photos Wednesday of a private jet The NTSB says that was the plane in the crash. Though it's not been confirmed if Williams was on board. Officials say eight people on the ground were also injured.
Though amazingly, no one in the neighborhood was killed. As you can see, the damage behind us is incredibly significant, was life-threatening. These people are going to be recovering for a long, long time. And we have seen investigators from the FAA, NTSB, and FBI all on scene here. They'll be back out here today. And we're told it's likely this Cessna had black boxes on board.
That will be crucial for this investigation into figuring out why this plane went down with. Just an awful scene in that neighborhood, Trevor. Thank you. We turn now to the latest on the shooting of two Israeli embassy staffers. A young couple gunned down in Washington. A suspect has now been charged with first-degree murder. Our chief justice correspondent, Pierre Thomas, is tracking the latest on the investigation. Pierre, good morning.
Good morning. As we learn more about the suspect, a stunned city continues to grieve the lives of that beautiful couple who were executed in what appears to be a cold-blooded political assassination. Today Elias Rodriguez is being described by authorities as a terrorist fueled by hate and anti-Semitism, charged with firearms violations, and murdering foreign officials. Anti-Semitism will not be tolerated, especially in the nation's capital.
And we're going to continue to investigate this as a hate crime and a crime of terrorism. And we're learning disturbing new details. had flown into the Washington area on Monday and checked a 9mm handgun in with his luggage. The FBI says he bought a ticket to the event being held at the DC Capital Jewish Museum, his alleged target location.
It's there authorities say that he murdered in cold blood 30-year-old Yaron Lashinsky and his girlfriend, 26-year-old Sarah Milgram, targeting them as they left the celebration of Jewish heritage. With the city still reeling, the police chief says she has increased security at schools and Jewish community centers. You're also seeing that kind of security across the nation as a result of this truly heartbreaking and cruel story.
Michael, that it is. Pierre Hartwig at N. Cool, as you said. Thank you for that. I'm going to turn now to President Trump headlining a gala dinner last night for investors in his cryptocurrency meme coin, which is digital currency that literally has his name on it. Critics are raising ethical questions about the event. Our senior political correspondent Rachel Scott.
here with the story for us a lot being said about this Rachel good morning a lot of questions with this one Michael good morning to you and these meme coins typically have no function beyond speculation they're inspired by internet names or viral trends But this one was named after the president and those who paid millions to buy in, gained access to a dinner shrouded in secrecy, billed as the most exclusive event with the world's most powerful man.
overnight president trump arriving back at the white house after hosting a black tie gala for top investors in his cryptocurrency venture an event some critics are are slamming as buying access to the most powerful man in the world. More than 200 cryptocurrency traders gathered at the president's Virginia golf course, many from overseas. after winning access to the dinner through a contest that billed the event as the most exclusive invitation in the world.
Investors pouring millions into the president's meme coin, a type of digital currency that's inspired by internet names or viral trends. Typically, they have no function beyond speculation and entertainment. The coin named after Trump was launched just before he took office in January, but its value plummeted in the weeks that followed, valued at around $7 a token in April.
But after the contest was announced, its value skyrocketing as investors jockey for access to the event. The top 220 spending more than 140 million dollars collectively to win a ticket. The guest list shrouded in secrecy. Among those spotted arriving at the event, retired NBA player Lamar Odom and Chinese billionaire and cryptocurrency mogul Justin Sun, who previously avoided entering the US and was under investigation by the SEC and DOJ for securities fraud.
After President Trump took office the SEC probe was dropped. and he now claims to be the largest Holder of the Trump coin really nice to be here today with like everybody in the crypto protestors gathered outside the event as critical slam the gala as a major conflict of interest arguing the president and his family are benefiting personally from his position of power. They took another step against Harvard. This is a major escalation, Michael, in this battle, ongoing battle with Harvard University. The administration is now telling Harvard that it can no longer enroll international Foreign students and that existing foreign international students must transfer or lose their legal status They have given them 72 hours to comply with this or Turn over all of the information about these students or else this ban actually does go into effect
Harvard calling this unlawful, showing no signs as of right now that they're going to apply. But guys, this can affect as many as 7000 students at that university. seem like they're being singled out in some way. All right, Rachel. Thank you. All right, we do turn now to Nike increasing prices, and Rebecca, they're teaming up with an old friend here, right? Yes, that old friend being Amazon, and Nike is set.
to increase prices on a wide range of things, footwear, apparel for adults, equipment as soon as this week. Prices, according to reports, could go up between $2 and $10 an item. Nike, in a statement about the increases, didn't blame directly President Trump's tariffs, but almost all of Nike's products are made in Asia.
And after more than five years, they're bringing them back to Amazon now. What does that mean for consumers? Back on Amazon, so consumers have more touch points with Nike. But this also is something you're going to see other retailers, other... Footwear makers very likely doing the same thing. Nike is sort of a bellwether for this industry.
So I can get my shoes and my chomps, beef sticks and bulk all in the same place. Yeah, put it in one big box. Exactly, thank you for that. All right, let's turn now to the NBA playoffs. Will is here, Oklahoma City Thunder, looking strong at home. Rebecca, we've been consoling her too. I feel like I can't get up to as much mischief on this side. Before this game, Thunder guard Shea Gilgis-Alexander needed to accept his MVP award. SGA winning his first MVP award in a tight race

He could have had more, but he did tell reporters postgame that the awards ceremony had him, quote, a little too juiced to start the game. He needed to settle down and let the game come to him.
The game came to all of the Thunder. They've been dominant all year. They score, they defend like a swarm of bees, and for the second straight game, Rebecca, I am sorry to report they overwhelm the Minnesota Timberwolves, winning 188-103, although Anthony Edwards is now the playoff...

and stunning new allegations from Cassie Ventura's ex-rapper Kid Cudi claiming Combs broke into his home and testifying his Porsche was set on fire. Chief Investigative Correspondent Eric Kretursky joins us with more on this case. Good morning, Eric. Good morning to you guys. Good to see all of you. The Grammy-winning rapper known as Kid Cudi came to court to testify about something he had never publicly discussed, the firebombing of his car. and his suspicion that Sean Combs was responsible.
This morning, images of an alleged arson at the racketeering and sex trafficking trial of Sean Combs, the sin Sports car belonged to a romantic rival. What are you expecting today? He entered the courthouse like no other witness, smoking a cigarette, wearing jeans and a leather jacket.
He told the jury about an early morning phone call from Cassie. She told me that Sean Combs had found out about us. She sounded really stressed on the phone, nervous, scared. Ms. Scuddy drove to pick her up when he said Combs' assistant called to say Combs was in his house. he rushed home calling combs on the way i said you in my house and he said i just want to talk to you
No one was there when Muscutty arrived, but he testified he found that Christmas gifts wrapped for his family were open, and his dog was locked in the bathroom. He said the dog was jittery and on edge after the break-in. Not long after, Muscutti testified he received a call that his Porsche 911 Cabriolet was on fire in his driveway. It looks like the top of my Porsche was cut open, and that's where they inserted the Molotov cocktail.
In earlier testimony, Cassie Ventura told the jury Combs threatened that Scott's car would be blown up. Miscotti said he arranged to meet Combs in Los Angeles. What are we going to do about my car, he recalled asking Combs. He looked right back at me, very cold stare, and said, I don't know what you're talking about. Combs has denied any involvement, and on cross-examination, Kid Cuddy agreed with the defense that no one has ever been charged.
After testifying Kid Cudi thanking his fans for their support. This is a stressful situation. I'm glad it's behind me and Yeah I love y'all man. Big love. Kid Cudi's testimony yesterday was important to the prosecution because in order to prove Rico, they do have to have two predicate crimes, one of which being arson.
Although Kid Cudi himself did not see Sean Combs present at his home, all of the circumstantial evidence surrounding it tends to support the allegation that it was Sean Combs who broke into his home and committed the arson. And the jury's going to hear next week from the assistant that Kid Cudi said called him to tell him Combs was in his house.
Court is off until Tuesday. The judge gave very strict orders to the jury not to talk about the case over the long weekend. Instead, guys, he suggested they watch the Knicks avenge their Game 1 loss. New York through and through, I guess. And some pretty interesting, some stunning allegations there, though. And a lot of talk about
Sex and violence and it's a disturbing case for sure. Thanks for following it for us Aaron We're going to turn now to the early shark sightings as millions head to the beach this weekend for the unofficial start of summer. Morgan Norwood is here with the story. And Morgan, this is early to see sharks in some parts of the country. Hey, good morning to you, Rebecca. That's right, beach season is here, but this year...
Some familiar fins are arriving early. Take a look at this. Great whites spotted off the east coast. And while that may be unsettling to hear and see, new tracking technology is giving scientists their clearest picture yet of how and why these sharks... or moving closer to shore. This morning, as millions head to the beach for Memorial Day weekend, a familiar summer visitor is making waves again. A great white shark spawned off Montauk just hundreds of feet from the shore.
The photographer saying it's the earliest she's seen one in the region. And further north, the first great white shark of the season recently confirmed off of Nantucket. after witnesses say it went after a seal swimming in shallow waters. And with Memorial Day marking the unofficial start to summer, Shark Watch is Scientists from the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy using new technology to track sharks off of Cape Cod, attaching cameras to their backs to see life from their perspective.
monitor interactions with fishermen. We're using those tags to learn more about their predatory behavior, how they hunt for seals in the waters off of our beaches, and how they're just using the coastal waters off of Massachusetts. And as conservation efforts pay off, several shark populations along the Atlantic are rebounding, including the Great White. Just last summer, this video of a baby shark nursery off of Long Island, reinforcing what many scientists suspect.
These waters may be a growing breeding ground. There are more sharks out there as some shark populations are starting to recover. They're not coming to hunt for humans, but they do sometimes make a mistake. And as Jaws, the ultimate summer shark thriller, turns 50. You're going to need a bigger boat. The fear factor might be iconic, but experts say real life encounters are rare.

Starting with Memorial Day travel, millions flocking to the airports and to the roads, and the nor'easter has not made it easy. We'll get the forecast from Ginger in just a moment. But first, let's go back to Matt Rivers at LaGuardia Airport. Matt, good morning once again.
Yeah, good morning. What a very busy morning as you might imagine here on the tarmac at LaGuardia. You see that American jet taxiing there. This American jet we know is going to be taking off pretty soon to Chicago. It's going to be full just like all the other jets today.
But so far, so good here with not a lot of no rain, no wind. That's a very good thing. Not a lot of delays, especially after the kind of rough weather we've been seeing over the last few days. It's a welcome relief. I can tell you to airport officials here at LaGuardia. The TSA saying they're going to screen Roughly 18 million passengers over this weekend. The FAA say They are expecting
record travel, so get to the airport early if you're flying, but of course we know it's not just airplanes, it's also cars on the road. The AAA saying roughly 40 million Americans expected to take to the roads this weekend. They're going to be crowded. experts over at Enric says if you can get on the road before 11 a.m. because from 12 to 8 p.m. today Michael that's going to be the worst time to drive when it comes to traffic.
All right, yeah, man, you warned them you warned all of you warned all of us. Sorry. Thank you so much for that Matt. Let's bring in ginger who is tracking the nor'easter forth. Hey, Ginger. Hey, Michael. That low-pressure system just to the north and east of the Cape still circulating and could still see some winds in coastal Maine today, upwards of 50 miles per hour. So there are some places still impacted. It will slip north.
and still bring some clouds and intermittent showers early Saturday. By Sunday, we'll dry things out. But look what happens. That jet stream cuts the nation this weekend kind of in half. For the much warmer part, you've got to go Texas over to Florida, back into the Pacific Northwest.
For cooler, you stay northern plains right through the Great Lakes and northeast. Now, what that means is in the middle, you're going to have storms, and some of them could have tornadoes, damaging wind, and big hail. Western Nebraska today down to Tulsa, parts of Arkansas like Fort Smith. Tomorrow this is going to look like a broken record, by the way, because Oklahoma is going to be in the center of it for days.
And then you're going to end up seeing it stretch into Texas, not just Sunday, but look how deep it goes on Memorial Day itself. Big populations like Austin, San Antonio and Dallas all could see severe storms. On the east side of this, it's about how much rain falls. We've got flood watches already up through parts of the Ozark.
So watch that going through the weekend, Rebecca. Always pay attention to that. Okay, Ginger, thank you. We turn now to the president calling out Apple this morning and threatening new tariffs. on the retail giant. But first, the White House releasing a report from the Make America Healthy Again Commission focusing on chronic conditions that begin in childhood. Our chief White House correspondent, Mary Bruce, has those details. Good morning, Mary.
Hey Rebecca, good morning. Yeah, the White House this morning is now sounding the alarm about chronic illness in children, outlining in this sweeping new report what they believe is driving disease in American kids. Now, this report calls the nation's children, quote, the sickest generation in American history and blames many chronic illnesses on ultra-processed foods, chemicals. in the environment, sedentary behavior, and an overreliance
on digital devices, all that screen time that us parents worry about. It also suggests childhood vaccines need to be studied further, echoing, of course, the beliefs of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., despite dozens of high-quality studies on these questions.
The report also says that 40% of children in the U.S. have at least one chronic disease, such as obesity, diabetes, behavioral issues, and allergies. The big question now this morning, now that the administration feels it is diagnosed The problem, what is their solution? This report does not outline any policy prescriptions to solve and tackle this epidemic. It just outlines what it feels is to blame for.
And, Rebecca, this morning, as you mentioned in other news, the president just now threatening a 25% tariff on Apple. This is a move to try and encourage and spur the company to produce and manufacture all of its iPhones here in the U.S., guys. And there's an immediate response from the stock and Apple stock trading lower on that news. But I would do one super expensive iPhone. Yes, it would. Research shows something like $3,000 to $10,000. Yeah.
All right. Thank you for that, Mary. Coming up in our GMA morning menu, the new high school baseball tradition. That's a home run with fans across TikTok. Got an excited crowd out there on this Friday morning in Times Square. Maybe I heard about what's coming up on Jimmy Cover Story. Because it seems like they got a good night's sleep. And our cover story is about a new sleep trend that has everyone talking. It's called Zero Gravity Sleep. And some experts claim it can improve circulation, combat back pain. and help you wake up feeling rested. Our chief medical correspondent, Dr. Tara Narula.
is breaking this down for us. Good morning, Doc. Good morning. All right. Zero gravity sleep. What exactly is it? Have you ever heard of that? Yes. You have. I have. Whit was talking about it earlier. Well, for those who haven't, Basically this is the idea of reproducing how our body would be in space if we were weightless. What is a neutral body position?
And so NASA's been studying this in astronauts since the 1970s, and essentially we're going to demonstrate that here with the help of our wonderful stage manager Brad, who we know loves to sleep. yeah so Michael you can see here the way the bed positioned The head of the bed, you raise it about 30 degrees, and then you raise the feet of the bed about 30 degrees. So head and legs are elevated, knees and elbows slightly bent.
This position basically has been shown to potentially help spine and back problems and also circulation. So how might that be? Well, it really helps the position and alignment of your spine, and it distributes your weight evenly throughout the bed.
addition because your legs are elevated you're improving the blood flow back to your heart so you're increasing circulation preventing or decreasing swelling in your legs for those people who have acid reflux we always talk about raising the head of your bed so this may potentially help people with acid reflux
So there are a lot of potential things that can come out of this zero-gravity position. And one last thing is for people who snore. Brad, I don't know if you snore, but increasing airway, the opening of your airway. And also breathing and allowing you to do that a little bit more efficiently so lack of snoring comfortable in that position You just stay right there my friend. You don't even got to go anywhere. Don't get up. Just stay right there. But what if someone watching this and they're like
I want to get all those things, help my back, circulation. I don't want to change my bed. Yeah, so a lot of people don't want to spend $300,000 to $10,000 on a zero-gravity bed. So we're putting Brad back flat to what would essentially be a normal bed.
So what you can do is really change how you're positioned in the bed. A lot of people are different sleep types. So they sleep backside or stomach. Brad, what type are you? Back. Okay, back. So that's actually pretty good for your lower back. But what you want to try to do is put this pillow under your knees.
That actually decreases the stress on your lower back and it kind of allows for the nice alignment of your spine. And then you want to make sure that this pillow is not too thick so your head's not cranked forward but actually your neck is in line.
with your chest and your back again this position not great if you're someone who snores so they actually make devices vest little vibration electronic devices that you can put on that will vibrate if you roll back on your back when you're sleeping so if you have a partner who snores you can get them one of those so side sleepers Brad if you want to demonstrate rolling onto your side
This is a great position for pregnant women. I remember doing this when I was pregnant. You want to put this between your legs.
that kind of keeps the alignment of your hips your pelvis and your back all in one space and this is also good for individual individuals with reflux and even heart failure and then last but not least my favorite it's just stomach which it turns out is the worst position for your back why because your back ends up in spine being flat and that can actually increase discomfort so Brad let's put this under your belly
so that actually helps with the alignment and then you again want a flat pillow because when you sleep on your stomach your neck can get a little bit cranked yeah yeah because you're turning it to the side so These are the positions to think about.
Thank you, Brad. Brad, you've been excellent. Thank you. You can sleep on the job, buddy. Today we don't care about that. What about sleep banking? Yes, I don't know if you've heard of this term, but this is something that's been studied in the military and by other groups. And the idea is that if you know you're not going to have a day of sleep, of sleep coming up you actually increase the sleep in the days leading up to it either with
increasing the hours and there's been some research to show that it can improve performance and alertness and cognition so you may think about using it if you're a shift worker or if you know you have an athletic competition or something else coming up but Definitely not something you want to use all the time Yeah, definitely.
All right, Doc, thank you so much for this advice. Brad, you stay there for at least another two seconds. All right, Ginger, we're going to go to you. I was going to say the commitment of Brad to just lay there while you guys were finishing. Really, really appreciate that.

Houston could see daily records both today and tomorrow. then Charleston and speaking of the Gulf Coast we did get the official NOAA hurricane outlook above average so that starts June 1st just a reminder goes through November 30th and here is a look at the names for this season
The only one I think we could talk about here is probably Rebecca. It is spelled differently, but it could be your, yeah, could be your year, Rebecca. Alright, it's time for POP News. Sam is back. It's Friday fun, so let's do a feel-good version. A special feel-good Friday edition of POP News, if you will.
So thanks to reporter Hannah Getz from our North Carolina affiliate WSOC. Hannah was at her cousin Will's baseball game at Legion Collegiate Academy High School in South Carolina. Now she was celebrating Will's senior night. That's when their coach revealed a special new tradition. for the team. It's so good, I think everyone's gonna copy this. The final pitch for each senior was thrown out by their dad.
Then each senior ran around the bases. They played their parents as they were running reading a letter about how proud they are of their kids on the loudspeaker imagine how good this feels and then waiting at home plate you got it it's mom the video has gone viral Tik Tok racking up millions of views on this and so let's pop in now live coach Hamilton Bennett
of one of the players. Hey, Will Bartokowski is here as well. Will, I'm being told that your setup is the nicest, cleanest setup we have ever seen. There may be a ring light involved. I see it, the jersey behind you there. Well, how much did the moment of you coming around the bases and having your family there, I know that had to mean a lot.
Yes, sir. I mean, it was a really big moment for me, especially that it was actually my last pitch ever because I'm not going to college for baseball but it was really cool that my dad was the one to throw out the last pitch because I always grew up and he was always the one throwing to me so And running around the bases and just getting to hear about what my mom wrote about me in the letter. I really kind of just broke down around second base. Yeah.
Just knowing that my coach, my old coach Jalen Benjamin, that used to be here, I know he's out there watching down on me too. But... Everybody seeing me cry on that video was kind of embarrassing, but I mean it all worked out in the end. No, that's good. Look, let a good cry happen when it's a happy emotional time. Coach, this was a new tradition that you started this year at Legion.
And I think it's genius. I think other people are going to rip you off here. So why was it important for you to come up with this idea? So honestly, I took this idea from Fort Mill High School where I was at previously to here. So kudos to that staff for showing me it. But it's a good way to get all the players involved, the family involved. One thing I learned from Allegiant is how important family truly is to everybody.
I wanted to make sure to honor not only the young men, but the families that They get to send their young men off to the next chapter of their life, but honor them and thank them for the last four years.
In such a memorable and special way. And coach, I know you guys won that game by, do we call it 10 runs? Is that what we say? But you're also off the field, Michael. Is that right? 10 runs. Off the field coaching is just as important. So tell me, I mean, you mentioned getting the families involved in here. It's important, right? 100%.
A coach is only good as the staff he has around him, as Michael can attest to that. And that staff is not only coaches, but it's also the family involved, the players involved, and the support that we get from the school itself. We have a great family. friendly environment a great leadership program here at legion and uh from the principal dr marshall to our ad dustin martin and our associate ad rich kasubenko all of them let me do my job on the field
You are a good coach. You got everybody in there. Good job. Will, you're graduating today. So what does it mean for you to have this moment and your team and all of that happen just before the big graduation day?
Yeah, it was, uh, hearing that I was going to be on the news today, knowing it was my graduation day too, um, because i have to say the pledge of allegiance at my graduation when i walk today um because i'm going to the marine corps and congratulations on this will be a little bit easier for me to talk at the graduation so But it was a lot to take in at first, but...
It's a big day and I'm excited for it. We're excited for you. My dad was a career Marine. Congratulations, young Marine. Coach, thank you very much. She has become a force for good for so many, using the power of social media to connect those who have with those in need. a mother, advocate, and community organizer. Simone Gordon makes miracles happen every day. I fundraise, I house, I feed. These are our receptions. These are crossing guards first created group providing direct aid for women of color Violence and food insecurity. become widely known Black Fairy Godmother.
Tell us about the Black Fairy Godmother Foundation and the people it served. The Black Fairy Godmother Foundation was established in 2017. when my son was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and many nonprofits were just shutting their doors and social services. I started fundraising on social media and advocating for many people across America who are marginalized.
whether it's formula, whether it's food, whether it's housing. And tell me about the people that you help. Some situations can occur with veterans. There are some people who are disabled who only have enough to pay for their rent and don't have toiletries or food. We help women who are victims of domestic violence and they want to restart in life. Using the power of social media, Gordon now galvanizes her more than 50,000 followers across the country.
to donate grocery supplies and money to those most in need. There are non-profits out there and social services that are available. But you fill in the gap. I fill in the void when people are going to actual organizations and there's a waiting game. Some people cannot wait for food. Some people can't wait for housing. You don't see stuff like this in real world. She said, what?
Dytasia Watkins says she reached out to the foundation where she realized her special needs son was having trouble eating food provided by her local pantry. She brought us a lot of food, like so much food to my daughter. and she did it right there she said no i don't want to wait brian mackey says he struggled to find work after becoming disabled and was in desperate need of personal care items when he reached out to gordon it was Um, breathtaking. I mean...
Pots and pans toilet paper paper towels. I mean the list is just nuts She saves lives. Period. When every door is closed and all of a sudden she opens every window in the house and just invades you with love and care. Yep, Simone shows that people care about other people. And she also reports that the Black Fairy Godmother Foundation has helped over 200,000 people. Woof, a lot of people. And she plans to open more chapters in marginalized and underserved communities.
And we wish her the best when we're here to support her. Now we're going to go to you, Ginger. Thank you, Michael. That was beautiful. And I want to give you an update on a fire called the In Fire right along the state line of California and Nevada. this one is 500 acres there are still some evacuations they're gonna have to get that under control thankfully weather is not gonna be too too terrible it will be on the warmer side as we go through the weekend same thing there in Arizona this is
the Cody fire so this is 1200 acres they've got some evacuations we're watching both of them but this is where the elevated and critical fire danger will exist today that means that you've got relative humidity pretty low and the winds will be a little higher
Now to Kevin Costner's new passion project. The Yellowstone actor teaming up with historian Doris Kearns Goodwin for Kevin Costner's The West. It's a docu-series diving into the battle for the American frontier and its legacy. Matt Guttman sat down with both of them. This is what happened when one of America's most iconic actors Consider every option, Malcolm.
I choose the one that's best for my family. And one of its most noted historians got together to tell the story of the American West. What was the... the scene that started all of it. Well, the History Channel had won. I thought she was cute. And I thought he was handsome. And that's it. So we decided, let's do a documentary together.
It was that kind of banter led to a rethink of how we view the history of the American West. What do we see when we think of the West? And now a new eight-part docuseries is taking viewers on an epic journey through the birth of
the struggle for land and survival in the History Channel's The West. I sat down with the executive producers, Academy Award winner Kevin Costner, and Pulitzer Prize winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin. And telling those stories in a really cinematic way, in a way that I have not seen in in a documentary series before. History's not for everyone, just like math.
Isn't for everyone, but by God I wish we had a class called documentary When I was going to school and watch five a week now I've been lucky enough to feel that stories important to me but I find that I'm absorbed in history and I find that it can become Even though it seems in the past it feels electrically alive to me. People relate to stories and stories are hardwired in our brain. So you tell them a story and then you can connect it to something larger. We have too much math.
In school, we have way too much. Yeah, that's why I love it. We need history. Costner, who produced the series Yellowstone. All the angels are gone, son. There's only devils left. Has a long history with westerns. I've always wanted to see the frontier. Starring in several, including the Academy Award winning. Dances with Wolves.
The series deliberately including native perspectives that historically have been misrepresented in other narratives. Under cover of darkness, they close in. The series highlighting Chief Little Turtle's decisive victory over the U.S. Army. It was just a systematic march from sea to shining sea where we essentially lied to people who had lived there.
We won't hurt you. We just want to pass through here. But it wasn't true. We weren't satisfied until we had it all. Those people, just their stories were erased. We had culture after culture, tribes after tribes. lost forever and while Westerns traditionally focused on men this docuseries take
close look at women's experience, including Cynthia Ann Parker, captured by the Comanche tribe at age nine, living among them for 24 years. She has been married for a number of years to Peta Nakona. The reason it's captivating us again so much is because it's a fuller picture. Right. I think that's right. I mean, certainly in Yellowstone, there's lots of important women that are there.
Everyone. Everyone should be in jail on the other side. But they'd have a good time together there, wouldn't they? They'd have an amazing time. For Good Morning America, Matt Gutman, ABC News, Los Angeles. And Kevin Costner's The West premieres Monday at 9, 8 central with back-to-back episodes on the History Channel.
Wow, this is big. Back now on GMA, one of the brightest stars, and exactly, you're exactly where you should be. One of the brightest stars on Broadway is here with us in Times Square. Tony Award winner Jonathan Groff is starring as Bobby Darin in the show Just in Time, which is currently nominated for six. Tony Awards. Yes, Sam. Talk about it. Talk about it. Here's the thing. And a live band. And dancers. Don't go anywhere. Critics are calling your performance sensational.
Right? I mean, anything you do is sensational. But when you're taking on like this world famous crooner who is like legendary, how does that feel to kind of embody that role? It's incredible. It's the gift of a lifetime. We've been working on this show for eight years.
so to finally make it to broadway at circle in the square we've turned circle in the square into a nightclub so this band that we've got behind us you will see on stage when you come to see the show there's cabaret seating we're in the laps of the audience So exciting. It is playing at the Broadway Circle in the Square Theater in New York. And thank you so much for watching. Have a great day guys!
