back slices. Happy Monday. Here's what you need to know today. We start with some major WNBA news. We first saw a friend of the show, Annie Costable of the Chicago Sun Times, report on Saturday about a potential three team trade that would send Jewel Lloyd to the Aces and Kelsey Plum to the Sparks, and that other big WNBA free agency moves might be on hold till the.
Deal was finalized.
Then late on Sunday, ESPN's sham Shrania, Ramona Shelbourne, Kendra Andrews, and Alexa Philippoo together confirmed the deal. A source reportedly told the ESPN's cadre of reporters that in addition to Lloyd to the Aces and Plumb to the Storm, the Storm will get the number two pick in the twenty twenty five WNBA draft and Lee Yaru from the Sparks. In the deal, Sparks will get the number nine pick from Seattle and the Aces will get the number thirteen
draft pick from LA. That's all we've got as of this recording, but plenty to say about this deal in the future, and we expect a lot more dominoes to fall in free agency once.

In tennis, American Madison Keyes won her first Grand Slam title over the weekend, defeating world number one Arena Sablenka in a thrilling three set match on Saturday. At age twenty nine, Keys became the second oldest first time winner of the Australian Open, the all time record holder China's Lee Nah, who won her first title in twenty fourteen at age thirty one. Keys, seated nineteenth, had to also go through the second and seventh ranked players before meeting
several in the final. More Australian Open shout out to front of the show Taylor Townsend and check Player Katerina Sinyakova, who won the women's doubles title on Sunday. Townsend and Sennyakova produced a solid resume of results since teaming up last year. In addition to this new trophy, they also won Wimbledon and reached the semis of the US Open last year. To soccer, or as this player's new team refers to it, football, Naomi Germra's move to Chelsea is official.
The women's Super League team announced that Germa has signed a four and a half year deal with the club, making the twenty four year old defender officially the first female player to earn a one million dollar transfer fee. The signing was revealed on Sunday when Germa walked out onto the pitch ahead of Chelsea's match against Arsenal truly some movie type stuff. In a story on Chelsea's website, Germa said, quote, there are a lot of things about
Chelsea that made me want to come here. The culture, the winning mentality, staff and players. It's a top environment to learn and grow in.

Germa also thanked San Diego Wave in a post on Instagram for quote creating an environment that allowed me to grow and reach my potential end quote more soccer News. you can set your sites on the Houston Dash. Per Sportico, Ted Siegal, owner of both the Dash and the Dynamo of the MLS, has hired an investment bank to assess
investment options for the Dash. In a memo written to staff and reviewed by Sportico, Siegel wrote, quote, given this backdrop and the unprecedented levels of interest in the NWSL from high quality investors, I believe now is the right time to explore whether there are additional resources that we can attract to help the Dash succeed well into the future.

Now it's worth noting the Dash of qualified for the nwslayoffs just once since joining the league in twenty fourteen. The team has also struggled with both player and coach turnover. In the last two years, five different people have filled the latter role, either on an interim or a so called permanent basis, and Maria Sanchez, who signed one of the biggest NWSL contracts of all time to join the Dash in twenty twenty three, requested a trade from the
club just a few months later. All that to say, the quote unquote right time to explore additional resources and invest in the brain trust and the player experience might have been a few years ago, but either way, we're here for it if it improves the Dash to college hoops.
A couple of ranked teams were upset over the weekend, including number ten Kansas State falling to unranked Colorado sixty three fifty three on Saturday, and number sixteen West Virginia dropping a seventy seven to sixty two contests to unranked Arizona that day as well. Also, as I mentioned earlier, Tanaia Latson, putting up twenty five points to lead unranked Florida State, passed the thirteenth ranked tar Heels.

A couple of nice wins for top ranked teams too, though, including Loren Betts putting up thirty three points to send number one UCLA pass number eight Maryland eighty two to sixty seven on Sunday, Sarah Strong and pagebackers leading numbers Yukon with twenty six and twenty two points respectively in a seventy two to sixty one win over Big East Vauxe Crayton on Saturday and a big win for number two South Carolina on Friday night over number five LSU
Anissa Morros fifteen points, pacing the Game Cocks in that sixty six to fifty six win. More hoops news, Melissa Smith is unrivaled. The Indiana Fever forward has signed an injury relief contract with the Three on three Leagues misted BC, same team as her girlfriend, Dja Carrington. Smith made her
debut for the Myst on Saturday, playing five minutes. We'll have to wait a little bit longer to see Carrington and Smith play side by side, as Carrington is one of the players currently out with injury, along with Jewel Lloyd. After the weekend, the Myst are the only team without a win and unrivaled. They're sitting at oh to four.
The Laces and the Lunar Owls lead the league with perfect three and oh marks heading into their matchups tonight with Rose b C and Vinyl BC respectively to the p WHL, The Toronto Scepters and New York Sirens met for the second annual Battle on Bay Street on Saturday, competing in front of a sold out crowd of nineteen thousand and one oh two at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. The Scepters won the contest four to two, with Hannah
Miller scoring two goals. At the conclusion of the weekend, Miller and Minnesota's Kendall Cooin Schofield lead the PWHL in goals scored with six apiece this season, but it's a tight race behind him, with several players sitting on five to Snowboarding American Chloe Kim won her eighth X Games snowboard halfpipe title on Saturday, to break her tie with Kelly Clark for most women's halfpipe titles and X Games history.
Seven of Kim's wins have come at the aspin X Games, while one was won at the X Games in Oslo, Norway. After the win, Kim said on the broadcast she felt in a rut the last few years, but she entered this season just wanting to focus on doing runs that felt good and she's happy it worked out. Looking down the road at next year's Milan Cortina winner Olympics, Kim could become the first snowboarder of any gender to win snowboard halfpipe gold at three consecutive Olympics. Alpine skier Mikaela Shiffren is set to make her return this week at a World Cup stop in Frame. Schiffrin, who has won ninety nine career World Cup races, has been out since November when she tore obliqu muscles when she fell during a giant slalom that could have been her one hundredth win. Want to give a shout out to the absolutely six Surf City uniforms worn on Saturday by the Rainbow Wahiney, the University of Hawaii women's hoop squad that surf with a uh in the middle for
University of Hawaii SUHRF. The jerseys are the design of Isaac Daggett, a University of Wyoming student who beat out over one hundred and twenty five other submissions in the school's first ever fan design contest. Hawaii beat Big West co leader UC Irvine on Saturday in Beaman's Bigger Bash, named after head coach Laura Beeman and they were rocking the rainbow design. Anyway, after the game, Tiger star Flage Johnson called out the DJ at Colonial Life Arena for playing the song cut Friends by rapper Camouflage after the game Cocks win Now. Camouflage is Flage's father. He was murdered in two thousand and three when her mother was still pregnant with her She wrote quote, I'll take my l on the chin, but this just nasty behavior.
None funny about that on Twitter, sharing a screenshot of the DJ's Instagram, where after someone pointed out that playing Camouflage at the end of the game was crazy. The DJ replied my bad with a laughing face. The DJ who goes by djto first responded by posting, quote, people will find something to be mad about, just let them end quote. But then she followed up with a statement that said, in part quote, I apologize for playing cut
Friends instrumental at the game yesterday. It is never my intent to disrespect anyone or offend anyone when my job is to have fun and make sure other people have a good time. She went on, I'm from the low Country Seaport area, so I've been playing it for years, even at other games, but I shouldn't have played it at yesterday's game, and then said quote, I can't control how anyone takes it, but I can take responsibility and
apologize end quote. Now that's a shit apology, and honestly, it reads like she's blaming Flage and others for taking offense. I can't control how anyone takes it. Well, how would you take someone playing your murdered father's song right after your team got beat and then doubling down with a my bad and a laughing emoji.
Thankfully sc agreed with me in a statement.
South Carolina Athletics apologize to Flage and her family, and Djto has been suspended for a game, though I'd argue she deserves a much longer break. Speaking to South Carolina, they take on number seventeen Tennessee tonight and Lady Vols coach Kim Caldwell plans to coach despite having her first baby exactly one week ago Monday, a boy named Connor Scott all while she was battling the flu. Now, Caldwell Mister teams lost to Texas on Thursday night, but she was back in practice on Friday.

Props to the new mama if coaching today is what she wants, get after it, but no judgment for her or anyone that needs more time than that. Sticking with Hoops, it's been a while since we gave you a Hoops and Gay Shit update, but we've got a good one
for you now. I don't know if this is for sure true, but using previous Hoops and Gay Shit knowledge and some context clues, we're thinking that Melissa Smith was crashing with girlfriend Dja Carrington in Miami for the duration of the Unrivaled season, and then when the myst realized that injuries had their roster short a couple players. They just looked in house for a replacement. Literally, like in Djana's house. Old girl was there ready to play faster than you could say, Delissa or Najane.
What we got to figure out their ship name y'all?
Only in women's sports, right, I've never heard of a men's pro player shacking up with his boo and getting the call to suit up when injury struck. Hopefully one day I will, though, And if I do, that honestly wouldn't be much crazier than hearing a remix of Kia's My Neck, My Back in a Dove ad on national television.
But folks, that is a reality in the year twenty twenty five.
Now, if you haven't been watching Unrivaled or college hoops, you might not have caud yet, but this ad is basically the new ubiquitous commercial during women's basketball broadcasts. The original song, in case you don't remember or your Misha's age, was this naughty little tune with a very memorable chorus. If you have kids in the car, ear Muff's time,
got it okay? That memorable chorus was my neck, my back, lick my pussym my crack Now Dove's version is my neck, my back, my legs and pits all that my neck, my back, your thighs will be intact, which really doesn't make any sense, but anyway, you get the picture. I never thought i'd see the day, honestly, like, what's next, mister Peanuts sing and give me that nut and a Planter's ad. Now, I love peanuts, and Peanuts love me. I'm not gonna do it anyway. If you're looking for
a more family friendly story, I do have one. Over the weekend, a pair of sisters met in the Australian Open Junior Doubles girls draw and they were even wearing matching fits.
This was awesome.

All right, so we mentioned earlier in the show that American Chloe Kim won her eighth X Game snowboard halfpipe title to break her tie with Kelly Clark for the most women's half pipe titles in X Game's history, and that brings us to the latest edition of Yes and So a little context on what it means for Chloe
Kim to break Kelly Clark's record. Back in twenty fourteen, Chloe mathematically qualified for the US Olympic team, but at age thirteen, she was too young to compete at the Games, so Kelly and company went to Russia while Chloe stayed home. One year later, Chloe won her first X Games title at age fourteen, and in doing so, she ended Kelly's four year wind streak. Kelly finished second and was nothing but a good sport celebrating Chloe's accomplishment and sport progressing
tricks with the media. And no exaggeration here, but Kelly was literally twice Chloe's age thirty one and.
Fifteen at the time.
But here they were two women were I guess technically one woman and one teenager pushing their sport forward at the same time. And there's actually a pretty famous story about how the two first met. So when Chloe was eight years old, she was riding at Mammoth Mountain in California when she saw Kelly waiting in the lift line. Chloe tugged on the sleeve of Kelly's jacket to get her attention and asked if she could ride up with her. Kelly obliged, and as the story goes, they did a
few runs together. Kelly went on to become a mentor of Chloe's. They trained together in California for years, and in twenty eighteen, Chloe, seventeen, was finally old enough to compete at the Olympics. Kelly, then thirty four, made the team too, becoming one of the first American women to compete at five Winter Olympics. Chloe went on to win gold, while Kelly finished just off the podium in fourth. And while finishing fourth at the Olympics normally means going home
empty handed, that wasn't the case this time around. That's because the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee has something called the Order of eCos Award. Each US athlete who wins a medal is able to bestow the honor on someone who helped them reach the Olympic podium. Now, most athletes pick their coach, but in twenty eighteen, Chloe picked Kelly. It was just the second time that an athlete chose to award the Order of eCos to a fellow athlete.
Asked about her decision, Chloe said, of Kelly quote, she really took me under her wing, has guided me through every possible situation, good and bad, and I'm so happy to call her my friend.
End quote. So yes to Chloe Kim and to Kelly Clark. Love that story.
Speaking of yes, ending a slice is saying yes to new teams and trying to figure out how to keep track of all of them. Megan Werner wrote us and said, in part quote, how to keep track of all my teams? I'm loving following all my new teams lately, Minnesota, Frost, Lunar Owls, Love Madison. Do any of you know how a league gets to be one of the options at ESPN's scores section of the app. I can find snooker, chess, and badminton, among other obscure sports, but no PWHL for example.
I'm curious to know the criteria. Do leagues and governing bodies pay for it? Is it based on ESPN's perceived interest? Do these new leagues want fans going to their own sites to follow results instead?
Would be nice if.
I could check on my new teams in similar ways that I check on my hapless men's teams.

Okay, So, per my friends at ESPN who have been working to push for more women's sports content for a while, it's not a simple ad. So one of them tried to tackle the issue right when she got to the company. And apparently it's a manual process to add a new league, and it scores, schedule stats, etc. So it's a pretty big technological lift and if not up to anyone person to decide which leagues make the cut, it's part of
a larger product roadmap and bandwidth decision. Also, producer Alex says that when she worked at The Messenger, she was involved in some convos about how to get a ticker added to the site, and even though women's sports were a priority, none of the sports data companies that sold
the packages included women's leagues. Right now, ESPN is also working on rolling out its big direct to consumer streaming service called Flagship, So my guess is that the focus and the resources are going to be on that right now. In the meantime, though, you could check out an app called flash Score. It's producer Alex's favorite. The company that makes it is based in Prague, so most Americans haven't heard of it, but it's got almost every league on it.
Unrivaled hasn't been added just yet, but Love and the PWHL are both on it, so it's only a matter of time before Rivaled joins too. Plus if you make it account, you could favorite your teams and you can get alerts about scores and upcoming games. Thanks for the question. We agree that we would love to be able to
