Episode description

TW: This episode discusses eating disorders and disordered eating.

Remy and Emily start off with some talk about TikTok. A study from the University of Vermont found that TikTok perpetuates toxic diet culture among teens and young adults, and Remy and Emily have thoughts. They unpack some TikTok trends that might play a part in this, re: “What I Eat In A Day,” “That Girl” lifestyle videos, and the ones that show body checking. But why aren’t medical professionals’ videos going viral? Emily brings up the halo effect as a possible reason, before she and Remy read a listener-submitted Dear DST about disordered eating vs eating disorders. They acknowledge the blurry line between the two and share their personal experiences struggling with these terms, before reading some definitions of symptoms. Emily wraps up with a reminder: it’s not about putting a label on it, because no matter what, you absolutely deserve recovery.
