¶ Introduction
Hi, I'm Moonwater Silverclaw, and I'm the founder of GoddessHasYourBack.com and the author of nine books and three online courses on Udemy.com. In today's episode, we're going to talk about how witches deal with their own depression. My experience of depression is low energy, feeling worthless, just not liking life, and feeling like you're in a dark hole. In this episode, I have insights that build upon comments by two authors.
The author Tamar Kru said, self-care is three S's, structure, support, and spirituality. And another author, Robin Sharma said, build four interior empires, mindset, heart set, health set, and soul set. There's a parallel between these two sets of ideas.
¶ Establishing Structure
So let's begin with structure. My days are structured. I get up at the same time, and I generally go to bed at the same time. I have habits of doing certain things at certain times of the day. I take care of my cat Magic by giving him insulin in the morning and in the evening at the same times. I've learned that getting up at the same time every morning helps me stay awake in the daytime, and contrary to popular belief, it makes me not tired throughout the day.
Previously, I thought more sleep would make me less tired, but I found out that that's not true. I found that I could oversleep. And I did that regularly. And this ties into health set, which is your physicality. It also ties into heart set, which is your emotionality.
¶ Importance of Support
And now let's talk about support. Magic is my support animal, and he follows me around all the time. He's a very important part of my support structure. My husband supports me, and my friends support me too. And part of the structure of my my day is I support my parents. Support is about your psychology or your mindset. And another important part of support is medication, therapy, and working with a psychiatrist. I've had all this support for years, and I continue to have this support.
And support is also about your heart set, and it's even about your soul set, because connecting with other people is part of your spirituality. It's soul connecting to soul. So we've talked about structure and support.
¶ Nurturing Spirituality
Now let's talk about spirituality. I often thank the god and goddess throughout the day. Sometimes I hold small conversations with them. This supports my soul and it also gives me strength for my heart set. My relationship to the god and goddess helps my mental health too. Now what's interesting is that everything is connected. Robin Sharma talked about four interior empires, mindset, heart set, health set, and soul set. And for us witches, it's really all connected.
Everything connects with everything else, just like the spider web of life.
¶ Mindset and Meditation
Robin Sharma talks talks about the mindset. He emphasizes meditation, visualization, and prayer. He suggests that you do this meditation, visualization, and prayer every morning.
¶ Connecting the Three S’s
And now, let's pull this all together. We have the three S's. Structure, support, and spirituality. For anyone experiencing depression, You may have feelings like I do, that you're barely holding life together, and that life seems dark and dreary. And often, you can't explain it to someone else. They just don't get it. They can't. So, you need to be proactive. I really suggest you do something about structure, support, and spirituality.
Here are some quick examples. For structure, get up at the same time every day. And also consider adding meditation, visualization, and prayer to your mornings. And for support, make sure you have a variety of support. That includes friends, family, medication, therapy, and working with the psychiatrist and the gods, and of course your fellow witches. Support can also include exercise. For example, my husband gets me to walk a lot more than I would without him. And finally, spirituality.
Consider having daily conversations with the god and Goddess. There's more to our practice than formal rituals.
