Nato a Bahia nel 1936, musicista, poeta e pensatore sempre all'avanguardia, fondamentale insieme a Caetano Veloso e GIlberto Gil nella genesi del Tropicalismo. E' rimasto poi incompreso per vent'anni e riscoperto da David Byrne alla fine degli anni 80.
