Hi there. It's Sue. And thanks for joining me for tips and talk day. These are bite-sized topics that I pull from community questions and things that I'm observing in the world of handmade small business. If you'd like to submit a topic, DME, over on Instagram at gift biz unwrapped, we all know it. We live in a world of immediate gratification.
Amazon prime ordered today have tomorrow Instacart have within an hour online, immediate access to courses after purchasing on demand, TV on and on and on all of these things are on demand in the moment, but they came with preparation from someone else. First, putting things in place, testing the right methods, et cetera, as a business owner, some of the things that are hugely important for your business need to be set in motion by you.
So today we're going to cover three things I want you to do immediately to set yourself up for a stronger business, future number one, Connect Google analytics to your website, the power of this tool. All for free mind, you is incredible for a full rundown. Go to my podcast, episode number three 40, but let's just say that without having the insight that Google analytics Springs, you're running blind in terms of how you're attracting customers and what motivates them to buy.
When you don't have this information, what happens? You make changes based on guesses and assumptions. That many times aren't accurate. You risk changing things that are working and doubling down on things that don't produce any results at all. Again, all the detail about the goodness that Google analytics Springs is in my show with Mercer episode number three 40. So that's number one, have your Google analytics in place.
Great. Next up. Number two, your Facebook pixel what's that you ask, it's a little piece of code that you place on your website, landing pages, opt-in pages, and any other online space that tracks who comes to those places. Why is it important? This data can be used for targeting ads in the future. You can then reach those people specifically and also target other people who quote, unquote, look like them in terms of behaviors and interests. Now I can hear you already.
You're thinking that you can skip over this part because you don't intend to run Facebook ads. Well, maybe not today, but what if you have a change of heart in the future? Never say never, right? And given that it doesn't cost a thing to attach your Facebook pixel to your website. What's the harm because here's the deal. You can't decide tomorrow that you want to run ads, attach to the pixel then and have any usable information to make your ads a success.
The information is gathered over time and grows, richer and richer. With the more information it has available. This also holds true for what I was talking about earlier. And number one with Google analytics too, by the way. So create your Facebook pixel code and get it added to your website today. A simple Google question. How do I find in place my Facebook pixel? We'll give you loads of articles on exactly how to do this. Okay?
Number three, what I want you to do immediately to have a stronger business moving forward is start collecting emails. You don't have a clue on how to set up or run an email campaign, go over to MailChimp, sign up for a free account and get started. They have lots of tutorials and information that can walk you through the entire process. I see so many people get in their own way and create barriers that don't need to exist about email marketing. And here's the thing.
You can't run an email marketing program. If you don't have any emails as a maker, you're most likely in places all the time where you can be collecting email addresses to build your list. First off, anyone who's purchased from you and is now a customer should be on that list. That's how you can continue communicating with them. So they'll buy from you again. Second at craft shows set up a way to collect email addresses through a raffle or third, a first time discount offer on your website.
There are so many ways to get emails, but my point here is starting this moment. Keep this activity top of mind all the time. This is one of the biggest regrets I hear from makers. When they finally understand the value of an email list, they put on a big, sad face about all the sales potential with all the prospects that they've lost, because they didn't grab an email when they had the opportunity and it was right in front of them. And now it's lost forever a caution here too.
For those of you who are thinking you don't need emails because you have people following you on your social media accounts, think about it. The only access you have, your followers is through that platform. If your account gets shut down, Facebook changes their ways yet again, or something happens with your account. For any number of reasons, you will lose connection to those people completely. That's something that should keep you up at night.
If you're relying totally on prospecting through social media, I'm keeping this short and sweet today. So in summary, here's what to put in place right now. If it's not set up already, just three things, Google analytics, your Facebook pixel, and a continual method, and the conscious activity of collecting emails all the time. If you've already got this done fabulous, you're set up to take advantage of the sales potential that they offer.
And if not, let's get you to this point, consider this your directive for the week. Bye for now that's a wrap. I'm a get to the point kind of girl. And this is what you can expect from these quick midweek sessions. Now it's your turn go out and fulfill that dream of yours. Share your handmade products with us. We want them and they bring us both so much happiness.
