L Hey everybody, It's Tuesday, Tuesday, June thirteenth, twenty twenty three. Welcome to an episode of The Giant Bomb Cast, Episode seven hundred and ninety three. We're in person. Secretly, we're still in La. We're time traveling. I think we live here now. I think we live here now. I think we're all Hollywood versions of ourselves. Now Dan has become a drip king. I'm your host, jan Ochoa. The Giant Bomb Cast is powered by n z xt as you can see right behind Jeff Grubb over
look at this, Look at this. Look look at those fans, Burn and Stirren lighting up, back and forth. Cool. Yeah, uh, joining me as always co captain of the ship, Jeff Grass said, June thirteenth, I've lost time. Oh yeah, it's like it's June. Yes, it's June, like deep into June, June thirteen. It's like mid June. Yeah, it's mid June. My birthdays Friday. Your birthday is Friday. Yeah, me and me and John Drake John of course, yeah, Jo and John Drake of course. Yes. Yeah. Dan Reichert is
on this lovely velvet. This is a velvet. Sure where it is now couch. Uh. Boys, we've been in Los Angeles for a week plus now a week about a week we blew out here Wednesday we were at Disneyland. That feels like a lifetime ago. Disneyland was last Wednesday night. Right, Yes, that's not right. Yes, you said your Mike's a little bit louder, is what they're saying. All right, well, you know, fuck off everyone. What do you want me to do? Yeah,
but he's on the couch. You can't do anything. We'll fix it post you're watching there, watching that. I talked first on them cast. I have to be a little louder, you know. And we've been doing this ship for a week now. If we don't want to be standing up exactly. Yeah, I'm not gonna fix shit. I'm not gonna switch. Yeah, I'm not gonna switch any cameras. How dare you even try to correct him on something? Right now? This man's been working his ass up.
Go go go, go light up, go light up. Just just smoke a fat blazy I'm gonna miss this chair. You got real come from there. At one point in between segments, I went up there to kind of like add a boy like on the back, you know, and it was it was a swamp. Oh yeah, I'm I'm I'm a completely sweaty man. I'm the sweatiest person alive, I really am. And like the air comes down from over here and it's not getting over here at all. Okay, be a full splash. Yeah, oh yeah, totally. And I
was like I when I'm like talking and get animated. So it all just happened and get overheated, and yeah it was rough. I don't know what happened one night too, but somehow the AC turned off. And then when we came in here when I got real rough, that was real bad. Yes, when we came in here the next day, I saw that the tempt inside the studio with seventy five degrees. Oh that's too much. I like a good sixty six sixty five. Would you say that you can't live
without air conditioning? And air conditioning a lot. I don't know if it's my second most human need. Okay, okay, okay. He's like my needs are so basic and he looks like like high society, like we know money's not one of his needs. No, definitely, Jesus christ Us, I still get at least he got rid of the cash. I don't know, you might have just tweeted that, Oh that's a good that's a good tactic. That's a good tactic. Well, boys, we've been here for
summer game Fest and the Giant Bomb at night shows. Thank you and everyone if you've gotten the chance to watch them, whether or not you joined us live. It's big, big shout out to the wind Bag. Yeah. Unfortunately, due to how everything was wired up and everything little a couple of technical hiccups, but the wind Bag will probably be broadcasting his all this stuff he had prepared for us on Twitch dot tv slash to the Windbag. He put a lot of work into this and at least we'll get to put it
out there. So please watch sport, you know, check this thing out. Yeah, we did a great work. We love him. He was great. Windbag, absolutely fantastic. Salts of the Earth. I wanted to talk about. We're not gonna this is not gonna be a normal bomb cast. We're tired as hell. Yeah, there's a lot of we did a lot of content. If you wanted to see us, you can do so. Yes, there's not gonna be a new segment. There's no emails.
Unfortunately, there's no shout outs. I'm sorry. Uh. The only thing we've been playing is playing this game, the Game of Life Business production. Yes game, Yes, I told you guys in the uber here. I want to talk about something controversial, Okay, I think oh no quakaga No, I think the tri Caster. He's some boomerass ship. I fucking hate the try Cast, real piece of shit. I fucking hate the try great
much. They're very nice, Yes, yes he is. Like I don't care that like web video, web production production is like heavily steeped in the try castor I want to fucking burn that shit down. Yeah, it seems unnecessary in this day. Too many buttons, yea, to many, but good mixture with a few buttons, you know, just like that is a that's a steel battalion over that's a steel battalion over there. Yeah, but like it's it's I m blame blame that for the hiccups with Henry. I
do, Yeah, I actively shoot. I shoot do because there's so many things I could do with V mix and like import, I can literally import whatever I wanted V mix and obis you can, especially the tree. This doesn't have a treat I was thinking about it like I was watching you Kiki from the Burgen webinans, I was like, oh, is she in there?
Can you put her on? Yeah? And I was watching the process and it seems circumbersome and everything versus like I was trying to think if I was in obs at home, I could try a transparent gift on Google and bring it in and there's yeah. Yeah, and if you want it to be like fancy or whatever, you could like load in a bunch of different transitions, have Kiki slide in and all that jazz singers and stuff. Yeah yeah, but yeah, that's that despite walking into a preset, pre built
studio, that is like the one thing I would have changed. Yeah. Yeah, these are like aftermarket mods, like software mods. Where could you like install version of OPS that someone made for tri casters? You could probably just use that as like USB input and everything. Yeah yeah. And the thing with like the trcaster mostly is like I can't tab out to a browser. Yeah, Like I can't easily tab out to like, oh I just need to download this PNG. Sure, Like I need to put in a
USB drive to put load up PNGs or whatever other assets. Isn't that running out? Is there no Windows? So there there is a Windows situation underneath. But you have to completely quit out of tri Caster. I mean you could get into like a file browser right like and everything, and you have to have the file already. Yes, that sucks. Yeah, it's it's like, well after you're like using v mix for so long now and everything,
uh and Trycaster. It's it's been great. OBS is like built on top of that, you know, taking it into all that jazz, V mix, et cetera. Fucking Trycaster. Oh my fucking god, yeast office face. No, because because this is Emma's, this is Emma's do Joe, I can't mess with them boxes. The producer like remotes into it like from somewhere else, and that's pretty like so you could do it, that's neat. But for our purposes, boy, it's it's just complete nothing.
Well just because like you know, like we have a lot of ideas that we will come up then and there it's improv baby, it's jazz. Uh. And then like with a try as, it's like instead of being almost instantaneous with OBS or v mix, it takes so much longer to actually think about making that happen. Like the lower thirds this year were an absolute nightmare because I would have to go into Photoshop, make make a PNG, export that onto a USB drive, take that USB drive, throw it into the
tricast or import that. I was watching you on a laptop doing it. So you're on a laptop do on the photoshop. So does that mean all like five, five or six names are on one transparent young? So if someone moves around or you need to change something, that's why you do that. So that's why I made everyone sit in specific right, And there was a one we brought in someone last minute, and I was then I watched
the process of like, oh no, that's a lot of work. Yeah, fucking duplicate one to change it. You're gonna go yep, oh man, this is that. Yeah. I understand that the studio is built with certain specifications in mind too, because Box does remote in and everything, and I'm sure it is one hundred percent easy for those purposes. But you know, before we keep going, boys, I want to give a special shout out at the beginning of the show to em a fife. Oh yes,
I cannot put em a fife overs possible. Yeah, yeah, I mean for I mean as much work as we did before, and I'm realizing she did so much more getting all this stuff in place so that we could just kind of execute. It's unbelievable. I mean we saw that a bit when
we went to San Diego for DreamHack. Was so on top of everything and like no, first of all the presentation, like going on stage and doing stuff like you know, like I don't know if you guys do this, but I get very up my head about like, okay, is this gonna be well? Like with her, she would do like eight shows in a row and somebody would just tell her something before and I'm like, oh this thing changed, Yep, got it and nail it. So I was instantly
super impressed there. And then here is on another level because this is like her studios. She does this this area and everything and like you need anything and she's got it. Though it's we had We had a bartender outside in the green room. Yeah yeah, she set that out up like to like another pa just helping with virtually any and everything. We had a cheese sport apparently cheese board was great. Yeah, stalked without the COVID tests on the
mic jack like she's Jesus Christ, yep, just predict Yeah. Yeah, but boys this was your first summer game fest, and you know, I think we got to ask a question, how how was it? I gotta say, as someone who's been doing E three since oh six and like the giant blomb style of the night shows and everything since I guess I started being on them on in twenty eleven or so. Yeah, so I'm seen them done a lot of these, and I think this was my favorite. I
think the guests were great. Just the whole situation here. The fact that we had a real studio and didn't have to just set it up in a you know, a conference room at the Standard or whatever like this is ah in, just the whole situation out there, the green room situation is I think the best it's ever been. Yeah, uh it, God, damn what what are you? The couches you assembled, we're just incredible. Great
people cross and like the couches that you assembled. Great, but obviously that doesn't go that far unless you are, you know, keeping the ship on core and so many different couches, so many different segments. Just incredible. Again, we've said for big shoes to fill, but my god, you fucking killed it. Thanks man, appreciate it was it was it was very easy because everyone I brought on, I'm like, they can make this happen. They know what they're and everyone came through. It was it was really
good. But I think you're right. It was a it was a lot of fun to see like that spirit continue and everyone want to come be a part of it. We're like a bit of a hike away from where everything is happening. Sure everyone showed up though, and that was like everyone to be a part of it. That was That meants a lot. That's like a really nice thing because people don't have to do this. Well, it's
not like not paying up parent's fees to come beyond the night shows. And yep, everyone's like, no, I want to could be a partist. And that's been the sentiment since it's ended. It's like, would be on it next time? And yeah, were there's gonna be a next time. We were just talking to our boss's boss about it a little bit, like hey, let's start talking about next time. It's like, yeah, that's great. Well, and I love the approach too, because it's like you
said, we don't pay you know, a parent's fees. But it's also not like it's not a press junket. We're not here to say, like, hey, go through a bullet list of like the things you're promoting or
whatever reason you want to sell games. People are coming here to have conversations about games with other people in the industry that they respect and and and seeing the connections forming between like oh, maybe these people on the couch didn't know each other, now they do. Now that's a connection, you know.
Look yep, yeah, it just it feels very very special. I think it's it's the right place for John Bob to be in terms of that stuff, because I got you know, we could we could only carry the converse. There's only so many of us carrying the conversation all the time. It's tough. Yeah, Like we could create some kindling, kindling kindling, yeah, yeah, yeah, And like that's that's fun because it's like that's where we fit in, and that's our attitudes a little bit, and that's our
spirit. Kind of works really well with that. And honestly, I just mostly just like cool people meeting other cool people that yeah, really and then everyone meeting Mike Manatty and then everyone yeah, which is like you got to bring it back down a little, Yeah, you got to kind of keep people real, keep them humble. Bill Spencer was very impressed with the green room situation because when he came in, I told him, Hey, thanks so much for coming by again. You know it's always a highlight. Yeah,
you know your three years Ember Games best. I know some things have changed, and thanks so much for being here, and he goes, yeah, some things have changed. You know, this room smells a lot better. It was like, oh yeah, it's not just filled with a bunch of food and he was not just food old food there for a long time. It was like, you don't miss anas. Like I didn't say that, but that was that was very fun. I mean, thanks for them
for coming by. Yeah, I think thanks for everybody which sparing their time, and then thanks for watching. It seemed like everyone had a fun time watching. I'm really glad to hear that. So yeah, yeah, Greb, I don't mean to put you on the spot and like make you pick your favorite child here, but like any couple segments specifically just felt very special to you. Yeah, I mean I think we were kind of dand it was askew. The Star Wars lid was askew. It was bothering me.
Trying to start addiction. I told him, I'll tell him when I've had enough. He's been trying to. I don't want to. We're having a good time here. I don't want to. A lot of the panels were very good and the segments were very good. Correctly he answered correctly, there would go oh yeah, very diplomatic. Yeah. It was like it was fun to try to figure out, like how to keep the conversations interesting.
It was fun. It was like gary to kind of keeping because like after the first night, it's like, let me we kind of talked about SGF over and over again. It's like, I'm interesting, Beau. Everyone's perspective is going to be a little bit different, Like that's gonna get stale after a while. I still would have to come back to it because it's like trying to think of commonalities here that people have and we're all here. That's gonna be a go too if I'm stuck and I don't have anything anywhere else
to go. So it worked, but by the third night it was like everyone there was common conversations that people were having about like that ign meme that went around, and so it was I really liked having like John Davidson, I want to talk about it. Having Rhanna here to help to add some perspective on that and Danny, and then even before that in the panel too, like a couple of times before that was a Mron talking about that same thing. Just those those conversations are I care about them, and then I
can only speak to them so much. So having people there that are ready to pick up that ball and inform I really appreciated that. But it was, it was, it was awesome all around. Dad Bailey reb also from my Yeah, yeah, that, you know, definitely. So I didn't know. It was like, hey, there's these ones have themes. I'm like, oh, I did stuff with themes. I didn't realize that. He's like, yeah, here's one media and here's some developers. But okay, I guess I did try to do that a little bit. It was
like kind of kind of funny. And then man, yeah, yeah, yeah, that one realized. It's like, while I was talking to him, it's like, we do have everyone, like on the different parts of the spectrum of of covering games, from people who are just trying to get in and people who have been doing it in corporations and people who are doing it as Patreons and someone who's got a big you know, almost like like
group Patreon. It's massive, and it was kind of fun to be like, Okay, how are how are you all viewing this same thing from all these different angles and it's like every actually we're kind of on the same boat. Well, it needed such a great job of picking people out that like they're people that I had never met before, Like I had never talked to Nikky Grayson before it, and I thought they were hilarious and prayed to them on the couch and like, okay, no, I got new fun people
to follow. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Nikki's great. Barley, Oh, Barley of course, yeah, the first dog on the couch first. Yes, yeah, I love Marino stocking the track of everybody. I'll take a little. That also shots out some Marino for like doing the work for years and years of tracking all that stuff. It's really fun. Apparently we've hit over three hundred guests on the Couch Guests on the Couch, which is wild, and and that that tweets us and that counts Barley, which there's
a five timers club. We've got the S and L thing. Now, Yeah, Mary kissed on there. Yeah there, absolutely, it was, of course Lang, you know, of course, right right, right, yeah, it was. It's what Drake was here and he's like, boys doesn't know you and my boys just doesn't want to be here. He would have came, but he didn't want to. He didn't want to come into
town. I'm like, I don't I don't blame you, but the five Timers Club thing, I think Drake is like the Tom Hanks situation where it's like, holy shit, he's coming on non stop and he's the like of those like top tier ones, like he's the one that we're turned this year. Stuff. Oh I won't take Tom Hanks is like a nice, likable person. So maybe that, but you know, numerically just hard number shitty Tom Hanks is what John Drake is. Yeah I heard that about him.
Yeah. Something the special to me, grub is. I think it was the mid Max couch with like blessings just like and just looking at that couch, I'm like, these are all a bunch of young fuckers, Like these people are children. Ye wait I'm the same age as then, Yeah, we're children. I had the same thought. Yeah yeah, oh yeah, yeah, Dan, Dan, we was just saying like, wow, all
of them have so much riz. Yeah I was I had the most riz and Drip of course, yeah, of course, yeah, d Story, the drizz Yeah yeah yeah the Drizz, Dan Reichord Drizzard Okay, drip rizz okay, boom new gimmick. It was like it is pretty similar to wrestling, right where it's like, uh, you know, thirty three years old in video covering video gifts, it's still kind of young. That's kind of like these days it's like, yeah, is there a DDP that's where I'm
like, DDP, Yeah, I think there probably is. There's Mike Manati the DDP. No, he didn't just start, no, but he's just yeah, that's true. DDP started like training in his mid thy right, Yeah, there's there's definitely some out there, but I honestly, you know, overnight successes always are all who like actually been trying for except except FORDP. Yeah. And then I don't know, it's cool to see like my boy Moistist like gets thrown onto the couch last minute and like he's trying to
find his footing and it's very tumultuous industry and ship. And then also just thinking we saw Mike Manati's feet. Yeah, everybody everybody heard. We smelled when I slapped them. Yes, he slapped them. I missed one of his foot, okay, yeah, oh I thought he like clapped his feet together. That would have been upset. Yeah, that would have been terrible. It was. Don't worry. They're not sweaty, they're flaky. I think that's worse. He thinks it's not worse. Yeah, I'm like,
he's worse. I think I think of all the things he said, listen, Disney Fruit is very funny. The idea of a cloud of your dad's feet, callouses in the air and his feet, Yeah, that's the one. I'm that's really gonna stick with me. He says so much stuff every time I talked to him, and I just walk away just thinking about it. And it's like I said, like I have a dan crazy. Oh my god. Absolutely, boys, how do we feel about a quick break?
And then it we'll be back almost immediately. Let's do it all right, we'll be back after this and we're back. Welcome everyone. Uh we actually I lied at the beginning of the show. We do have news, the news being we've had uh several burritos trip let's let's ball park this. I feel like I had three alright, well late nights three breakfast you you do not have. I think I've had four late nights. I think you did. There's one night I did, ye, I've had. I've had
at least six burritos on the strip from how many different places? Just three? Two next to the hotel, one last night at the one a little further that truck, uh, and then three from that place we had delivery of the morning which was incredible, right right right? Yeah, I mean ranking wise the breakfast ones, I think, and you guys have the same one, right, You guys didn't get any outside of those places. I got the bacon one. Yeah yeah, no, no, but I mean
like the we've only been to those three. No, no, yeah, we've kept it clean. We I think we've stayed around the same parameters. We've only had right burritos from these three places. Yes, the best one is by the studio. Yeah. I think this is gonna be an animous, right, I think so? So? Yeah? Yeah, the breakfast delivery breakfast bres. Yeah. Okay, So here's my thing, breakfast burritos. As as a connoisseur burritos, I live in the Bay Area. Some
of the best burritos in the country. Sure, the thing we're lacking is a good breakfast burrito. This is the best I've ever had, so whenever I have it, I savor him, like, holy shit, this is amazing, and I think it's the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. It's really good steak the place. The place is called Wake and Late, which I don't really get the name, but steak, tater tots, avocado, cheese, hot sauce. I don't know if I'm missing anything there, but
like the tater tots and avocado and steak together. It's wet and crunchy, just like Mike likes. Yeah, this favor. Yeah. The bacon ones, I like, the big ones were very good. Steaks great, Yeah yeah. I think my one problem with the bacon one is that the bacon is too crunchy. Yeah yeah, yeah, I like a little bit chew to my bacon. Steak isn't all stringy and gets between your teeth, which is what I usually don't like about a steak, breakfast burrito or anything that
has a breakfast or stak of breakfast. Yeah. This is like, nah, it was. It went down no problem. Oh it's eggs. Chat saying, how the fucking dan have a breakfast brito? Who doesn't eat eggs? What the fuck is the breakfast breedy without eggs? Isn't just breed up? Egg was the thing we forgot to say, there is egg and I eat eggs again to clarify, I eat eggs just fine. You just don't
trust them. I just don't like thinking about them too much. Sure, yeah, I mean it's just like thinking about breathing right right, it gets eggs in. It's like it's hyper aware of it. And I don't want to think about the fact that I'm eating like a weird baby that didn't come to life. Okay, now I have that thought in my head, and I love eggs. You hear them horror stories of like, oh we went to cook this egg and like a baby chicken fell out and that's fucked.
Like it doesn't. I don't want to risk the brains and skulls, you know, right, like fucked. Like I'm not a vegetarian or anything, but some stuff it's just straight up fucked and like, I don't eggs are freaking yeah. So back to the burritos. Yeah, yeah, we we've been frequenting the place directly next to the hotel. It's not the best quality. Last night we tried something different. We got a little crazy. Yeah, much longer wait, much longer, way, very long way. Yes.
And it was like after the last late night show. And so we were all completely zapped, Yeah, leaking against the wall, checking your phones, like exhausted, with a couple of fun boys with their girlfriends just going non stop. Yeah, really wearing wearing us find Yeah. And so we're putting up with that and wait for this food and like this better be better. Yeah, we've done the disappointing burrito several times by this point. If
we're we're raiding them on like a giant bomb five star scale. I would say the ones right next to the hotel, I would give I like point five. I'll say a two point five out of five. Oh, next to the hotel, Okay, sorry sorry, sorry, the one the long wait one from the truck that we had last night, I think that was a solid three point five. And then I would say the steak breakfast,
the bacon breakfast one delivery was a four point five. The steak is at five wow, Okay, Okay, I've only had the bacon breakfast burrito. But I agree with the four point five, the one we tried the last night. I think it's more of a three. Yeah, it was a step up, it wasn't huge. Three means good. Three means good.
