M oh god. It is Tuesday, June the seventh, twenty sixteen. We got one week here in the Giant Bomb Cast. That can't be right. We're going to you three, Dan, You're going to E three. That's what a month and a half away? Yeah, something like that. We got a few weeks. Okay, cool, it's just one week till E three. Go ahead, go on continue. No, I'm done, No, you're not. No, I'm definitely done. Hello, Alex Navarro, I think I'm on the wrong show, are you? This is pre
Money in the Bank Power Bomb Cast. Yeah, that's gonna watch this this this room looks weird, and Jeff Backlar is not here. I don't know what's happening anymore. We could have flown the baccalar out. We need a rotating fifth chair, that's what we need. I guess it's very red in here, though. It is so hopefully it'll get you in the mood. It could be. Yeah, I mean, we can get me the overhead. We could go full summer, Dan, you want to turn off the Okay, now it is all the way red in here, and now I
am all the way horny. It's like a dark room. Yep, it's fall up make out room, and I am turgid. We're gonna make photos. I know what I mean. Yes, I do. Time for some sexy video game talk. My whole life is one big dark room. Jeff Gersman sitting in my chair. Hello, how's it going. It's going okay? At the head of the table. Yeah, it's all right down here, I can I can really kind of get my hands on either side of this, Yeah, and really kind of hold court. I think I'm gonna
I'm gonna learn from your example. God damn it. It kind of got to slam the table expand down there in the future. I'm sitting behind the desk today because Drew and Jason are packing our stuff. They're doing the hard work for E three. Yeah, they're breaking down most of a studio operation and loading it onto a truck for tomorrow to go to La truck comes tomorrow. Do you have to press the magic music buttons? No, that's not happening. I okay, okay, Yeah, doing it the old school together,
like like they did back in the nineteenth century. Oh wow, when they edited podcasts by hand. Yeah. But Henry podcast the Fourth was the inventor, obviously of the format. I will done my monocle and top hat the model P. Yes was Alex. How's it going? Oh it's going all right. Flew out yesterday I did. I'm just in town. So airplanes yeah, my rights, Yeah they're I don't know. Airplanes are fine. I'm here mostly just to see family and to road trip down to E
three with Jeff gers Man. Hello, Hi, I'm here. It's the annual podcast. Yeah. No, yeah, we're gonna drive down. We didn't do it last year. No, wow, I did. I did not participate go to the Del Taco. Oh we're gonna yeah yeah, yeah, we don't even want to anymore, but we're going to because it's tradition. You can't not know exactly. Yeah, you can't resist the magnetic pool. As you passed Santaella, your car just drifts onto the on ramp.
Yeah yeah, because otherwise you end up eating that pea soup and you don't want that. Oh you know. I went to the Peace Soup Place finally, after years of driving past it and wondering what it was like. I went there last year of course. Yeah, yeah, I definitely. I wasn't. It was grilled, really good. Wait, what is the Peace Anderson Split Pea is kind of a bit of a landmark. They're also same
the same exit as the Dell Tacoh wow. And yeah, I stopped there on my way up on a separate trip, and yeah, it was. It was. It's a weird restaurant. They have a big gift shop. And it was like one hundred and ten degrees outside when I went there, as it tends to be. I got some nice steam and hot split piece soup. Yeah, that's the right temperature for peace soup. Is that served hot? Yeah? Yeah, Yeah, it's a hearty it's a hearty winter
gruel. So I got it when it was one hundred and ten degrees outside and then immediately got back in my car and kept driving. But you know, it's air conditioning can make it winter anytime. That's true if you're doing it at least a nice brisk fauld up. Is it near the cow poop part of the drive, you know, I mean, relatively speaking, it
all sort of is. But no, it's your connected by cow ship if you're driving, if you're out of north I guess you're coming out of the cow poop at that point, right, Yeah, and you're ready for COOLINGA is south of that. I stayed in COOLINGA once. That might have been. There was a couple of years. I was gonna ask, what wasn't last year that it took you like two days to back? That was? Yes, that was not last year? Was no? Last year was me and one Adam boys who slept most of the way on account of it.
Wait after e three last year, perhaps they some of those folks went and stayed out a little late. Okay, they might have been hung over the next day. Yeah, that's still a buzz man. I didn't take him as a guy who would pass out on you. Uh no, No, And and and he was super apolst a guy feel bad even bringing it up.
But he it's only fresh in my I would not have even remembered except that he is going to make the drive with me again this week and said like, and this time I'll try to be like less hung over in a sleep. And I was like, dude, whatever, I'm just listening to music. It's fine, it's not that not that big a deal. Yeah, it's a fun drive. It's silly because it would at this point it
would be faster to fly. Oh absolutely, yeah, But it all stems out of the one E three that uh they shut down the runway at lax on the day after E three and no one got out and I had to rent a car. Me and Ben Stall Oh yeah, went and rented a Cadillac and drove up in a Cadillac and it was like we drove a couch to San Francisco, and I was like, this is okay. And for me it was very much about the touring days from way back in the day.
Just doing that I five drive over and over and over often band Yeah. You would be yeah, because you would be driving the drum kit and there'd be room for like maybe one other person, but usually you wouldn't even and usually they were passed out like they were they were very boys, you
know, not drunk, just tired. So I got sometimes drunk. Yeah, But yeah, for me, like I need that at least once a year in my life, Like that drive just is ingrained in my DNA in a way that if I don't have it for a while, I get weirdly anti. Even though it's not a good drive, a boring dry it is the open road. It's it's dry, boring, hot, and it smells like cowshit. I don't think you guys know boring drives that until you've gone through Iowa. Oh, I've done. I've I've gone through Iowa. I've
gone through Kansas from Nebraska, driven across the country and back. So you would like have hills though in this, in this California drive, there are hills, there are there's water occasionally, yes, yeah, there's del Tacos, all these things. More this whole middle stretch that is just like you know, Trucker City. Yeah, everything between Santa Nella and like the grape Vine right about the grape Vine is just one shitty brown streak through California.
Yeah. Yes, it is the skid mark of California. Central South says, central California to the northern tip of south southern California. That's a vivid image. Uh, there's a whole lot of nothing there and then like just these big like all of a sudden, like oh, here's there's a ton of outlets right here. Yeah, like why who's coming here? Go go get trucks, get yourself a blazer or two. Yeah at the outlet. Yeah, maybe we'll stop at the out us this time. Okay, we've
got time. I'm down who's uh, who's your third chair? Is it Danny? Yes, Danny. He'll be in solving fans at the Del Taco. Yeah, exactly, he'll be. We'll be He'll be talking shit to people at Del Taco. Hopefully. I hope, I hope that that gentleman comes out and sees us again this year, so that day apologize. I
feel like what happened. Yeah, I'm just waiting for the story. We So we went to Del Taco. You know, we were live broadcasting, which, well, I'll post a story on the site about what we're doing at D three and how you can how you can listen to this drive down on mixler dot com or Jeff dot Zone actually has the mixler player embedded on it. You can hit up the Zone, the only website that matters over
the Jeff dot Zone for all that. So, someone who had been listening lived in the area and he came out to the Dell Taco while we were there. Oh wait, this person did not work at Dell Toco. No, no, no, no, heca they were listening to the mixer. He just triangulated based on your life broadcast going there. Yeah, we were not shy, well known. It was kind of an implicit invitation. Then yeah, pretty mush. So so he came out and we said low and
then what was it like on the way out? Danny turns it was, hey, go get a sun tan, and the guy just kind of turned for secon kept that and just kept going, which obviously sounded like, hey, your pale, weird skin to get yourself, which, you know, the Irish boy saying that could not be a more bitter irony, but still also, why would you yell that at? What he was trying to say, though, was that it was dy. He was trying Danny's not a hey, let me randomly insult this person that I just met. Guys,
so, it was very hot outside. The sun was beating down and he was saying, Hey, have fun out there. It's gonna be high beef O'Brady persona the right thing. And OK, so what you're implying is that the sun had damaged Danny's brain, and so he did not think that what he was saying might have been offensive. He was implying that it was hot outside and you should and the guy should go out there and get a tan in the heat. Sometimes it's hard to tell where Danny ends and beef begins.
You know it's true. Yeah, that's a fine. Some might say they are inextricably linked. H we'll have fun driving to Los Angeles. I will beat you there half the time. Yeah. And what are you gonna do? You go to the hotel and you're just gonna lay there until we show up? Not that hotel, which which actually one that we stay at. Can you make it really cold in the room? Uh? Not cold
enough? Never cold enver enough. I want seven to sixty laying there and steal the laying there and steal the USC wireless right yeah by the front desk. Yeah, they just tell you to use the USC wireless when you check in. Its close enough, I guess, amazing and it And we're an internet company. You think that there may be some priority placed on staying somewhere that might have internet in case people had to do real work from their hotel
room during something like a three. But as it turns out, I think, hey, we got a work room for that. Yeah, well yes, yeah, I mean there are a million other places in LA to get internet, but that hotel is not one of them. But there is a Chick fil A within walking distance. Great, I tried to what was it? I think I tried to download a Vita game over that Wi Fi last year I tried to not happen. I tried to upload podcasts from that Wi
Fi from the parking garage behind the hotel after I checked out. Yes, Like, the best way I can describe it is that is some go go in flight as Internet. Yep, yeah, pretty much functionless unless you are
just reading email and the occasional website. I remember last year as like GameSpot, people were down in the hot tub yelling lyrics to fucking bear naked ladies songs or whatever the fuck was going on down there, like trying to access trying to stay on the internet to get some work done, and then having that just emanating from down below and just going, what the fuck? Who is who the do you? Broak is down in this hot tub singing this
bull No, they're singing fucking tenacious deal. I remember that, and it was like what you and I were on Twitter bitching about it within like fucking seconds of each other. She was just like, don't you people have some rite ups to do? Yeah, do your fucking ride ups. Andrew park is rolling over in his grave and he's not even dead yet. There's no
excuse there was. There was at least a moment. It passed, and I obviously did not make good on this, but there was a moment where I sin seriously, seriously considered just grabbing a chair from my room, running down there and just like screaming what I thought about throwing things down, But there was a screen in the window, so I would have to pop that out first. And I thought, well, what if I filled up my ice bucket with water and then splashed that through. Maybe it would land near
them and they would maybe, It just depends on how thin about. And then I realized, oh, that's probable league game spot people. Yeah, And I was like, but that doesn't make it okay, it doesn't. It makes it worse, just makes me judge them harder. Yeah, Alex Is there's no stopping it now. Yeah, it's yeah, less than a week. You could try, but you could fail. I mean, at this point, at this time, next week, E three will effectively be over right, we will know everything there is to know, Yeah, and
then we can leave. Yeah, but before we go far, before that happens, Yes, some games have been coming out, That's true, Alex, Yes, I want to hear about Mirror's Edge Mirror's Edge Catalyst. So I finished it right before I got Yeah, no kidding, that was fast. Yeah, And I just started on like Friday I did. After a point, I kind of decided I was just gonna mainline that game as opposed to doing a lot of the side stuff, because at some point I realized
I was not really enjoying the side stuff very much at all. So I played the I played through the beta, which is like the first hours of the game. Yeah, adder, and it seemed like the side stuff was very much like, hey, I got a package that needs to get to there in sixty seconds or less. So here is the tragedy of that stuff. The best thing about Mirror's Edge Catalyst is the world. The layout of the city is a great jungle gym to run around in. It is awesome.
Like they have done careful laying out their occasional things about the controls that drive me nuts. You don't always grab onto pipes the way you should. It occasionally misses, and like as you turn in ways that you don't think you're going to. Some of the end stuff involves some really bad platforming sections that are just not meant to be there. They want to be more precise
and the controls will allow. But in general, just like it is a game that I did not want to fast travel in because you like doting around, because I like getting around, Like, actually getting to the missions was more fun to me than the actual missions for the most part. Okay, so you would think that these side missions, which are mostly these courier jobs that are timed and just have you like finding the best route to get to the next spot, would be great. There's the problem is twofold one.
The timer is totally arbitrary. If you fail the timer, you get the same message from the person who gave you the jobs, saying like, oh, you broke the thing, which obviously no I didn't. I just didn't make it in the fifty seconds you gave me so like and honestly, those times are tuned in such a way that it's very clear the path they are showing you is not the fastest, so it's a lot of trial and error
to figure out what the fastest way to do it is. I would be more okay with that if you did not have this museum ass narration that came along with it. Every single time where it's like it's like one of those museum displays where they're like, well, you know, back in my day, this is how we did. Like it was just it's them explaining to
you why they belong in this world. Even in that beta when I played like a few of us, like they would tell you their life story as you were hauling ass trying to get to wherever, and that doesn't go away as you repeat that objective over and over again. So that ship is super frustrating and I eventually kind of gave up on that side stuff which is the
same because some of the more fleshed outside missions are better. There's these mainframe ones where you're running around and you're climbing through these giant computer stacks that have
like laser beams that you're not supposed to cut through. Those are kind of neat puzzles, and there's like a couple of there's like two or three really good story missions, like they're kind of some of the more vertically oriented ones, you're climbing up like big you know, buildings that are construction and stuff like that, but a lot of it just kind of falls flat and the ending is terrible, both from a gameplay span point, and from a story
standpoint, the last thing, so they give you a grappling hook in this game because games have those now that is the thing that they do. So you have one. Yes, games about climbing give you grappling so you can circle without the climbing, And for most of the game it's just kind of like it's there. There are swinging sections, there's a few where you like
use it to get up to stuff, and that's fine. The whole last level of that game is a lot of you mantling up to platforms on a very very high building, and they completely rely on the tension of being in this extremely precarious building and not actually what you're doing in it. Like there's very little action. There's a little bit of running around, a little bit of wall running, but most of it is just you finding the next thing
to grapple hook up to and that's it. And then after that you fight two of the biggest, like the toughest enemies at once, and then the last fight is a cut scene. Nice ye, Well, so what's the deal with combat in this game? So it's been simplified a lot from the first game, and not necessarily in a bad way. It's a lot easier to take dudes on. You really only have like these light and strong attacks, but you also can do like leaping attacks that killed dudes in one shot.
And that's all kind of tied to that upgrade system, which is feels very tacked on in a You start the game with half of your motion abilities already unlocked, so like, why are they even on the skill tree. I don't know, they just are. But so the idea is you're trying to use your speed and dodging and kind of running off walls to get dudes done down quickly. In practice, that doesn't really happen as much. Mostly you're just kind of kicking at dudes until they go down and trying to dodge
bullets while also making that happen. They usually go down in a few shots, especially once you kind of upgrade your your combat skills. But it doesn't flow the way that the traversal stuff does. Yeah, so there's no guns. That's fine at all, Like you don't shoot it. Don't shoot a gun in that game, and that's you could You could pick up guns in
the first one. Yeah, you could shoot. They specifically say these guns are coded to their users, so you couldn't use them if you wanted to, which fine, I don't have a problem with that, but the combat doesn't have a great flow to it, and there are maybe a few too many sections where they are reliant on you being in combat instead of avoiding it, Like there are sections where you have to clear this set area of enemies
to move on. Yeah, which is weird because like even in that there's one big story mission in the beta that I played, it's like when you infiltrate that big office complex. Yeah early on uh, and they introduce that that mechanic of there's like a meter that fills up as you are running. Yeah, Likes, as long as you maintain your top speed, you fill this meter that then lets you dodge a bullets. Like basically enemies can't hit
you while this meter is full. But like as soon as you stop, as soon as you you know, stop maintaining your your top running speed, like that meter starts training. Yeah, anything that that that hinders your momentum, right, So it seems like they would just want you to keep moving
and so you don't have to fight and and just dodge everything. But then if they're making you stop and fight, dudes, And there are absolutely segments where you can just avoid fights, Like there's a there's an ability where you're if you're just running full speed and a dude sort of appears in front of you, you can just shove that dude out of the way and keep going, and that you know, in those instances, that's probably the best way
to go. But there are like there there is actually a section during that last level where you turn a corner and there's like twelve dudes just standing there like having a meeting, and then they all attack you. And it's like, well, I have to wait for this elevator, so I guess that means I have to fight these dudes while I'm waiting here. And it's not
great. Yeah, I've found the combat to be kind of clunky and just desjointed and stilted and just I mean, I'll say it's it's better than the first game because it works like you can get through a fight and live and not have to constantly repeat fights. But it's not it's not a great solution.
That game feels like a whole lot of concessions to me, like they've like they conceded that they needed to sort of apply this open world formula to it, and in that case it wasn't a negative because the open world works for that game, but the rest of the things they built around for that open world are just not that great. Uh. It feels like they conceded that the combat was bad in the first game, but the way that they
went about that here did not necessarily make it better, just easier. And I think they've also just kind of conceded that, like nobody really cares that much about Mirror's Edge on like a grand scale, like it has a cult audience. I know, And I don't think that first game is like bad necessarily, but it didn't sell super well for them, So let's just get
this game out before E three and just be done with that. Yeah, Like remember a couple of threes ago and they were like, hey, Mirror's Edge is coming back, and everybody was like hey, and then it just kind of came out. Wasn't that the same one where they did a Mirror's Edge and Battlefront which were too just like internet darling, cold audience things.
Yeah, they're doing both of them. Think I think that was the E three where they had nothing to show at their press conference, right right, like three Teezers, like the Eye of they talked about like half a dozen things they were going to do. But yeah, like they had and they had always, you know, they always were asked about making another Mirror's Edge, and they would kind of give their statements about like, oh, we
really want to get back to Mirror's Edge someday. And so it seems like the sort of game that would only happen as a passion project unless they could find a way to blow it up into some big, grand thing that would do the numbers that like EA probably expects out of its big budget games. But from what you're saying, it doesn't really sound like it has the feel or the passion of a passion project. I like it sounds kind of a cookie cutter to me in some ways. Yeah, I mean there are elements
of it where you can kind of see that. Again, I think the world design, like the map design and the way that you get around, like, I think that stuff feels really lovingly crafted. It's it's it's designed in such a way where it doesn't feel like a chore to get around the world, and that's that's hard to do in a game like that. Does it feel like a real open world because, like you know, again, I only spent like the first two hours with it, but it felt kind
of like the skeleton of an open world. It's like because you're only on rooftops, so there aren't a whole lot of different areas you can move between them. There there are more you're very much funneled through, Like here's the one hallway or the one like zip wire that connects these two buildings together. It's a little labyrinthine, and that not everything feels like it connects together the way it should. But I would say, like there are more neighborhoods that
open up over time. It does get to a decent size. It's not huge by any stretch, but I'd say there's enough there to where I felt like I was getting into some very discreet areas that that felt a little different from each other. But the whole art design of that game, like it's so uniform and frankly a little boring. Like I think it looks okay. Not the console version seemed like they're blurrier, like a lot blurrier than the footage I've seen in the PC version. PC version look nice. That's what
I've played yea and it looks. Yeah, the Xbox One version does not have that sharpness. But on top of that, there's just something about this stetic design of that game where it's like it was really cool in two thousand and eight, it was really cool, like a kind of sterile. Yeah, Yeah, there's something like it's like austere or to a fault like the
thing I kept thinking of. And there're obviously two totally different games, so they're kind of going for a different a similar aesthetic was remember me, Like that is a game that does that sort of Luke Bisson future like very colorful future thing, but it feels like a lived in world, Like there's grime on it, it feels like people live there. This feels like a brochure for an expensive spa. Yeah, especially because like the beginning of the game
like builds up this whole like kind of class warfare. You know, there's this there's this kind of ruling class underclass chotomy that doesn't seem like it actually depicts no in fact, if anything, it's extremely surface level about that stuff, to the point where there's a there's a side character in that game who is the head of a violent leftist organization that is trying to take down the corporate overlords, and her whole thing is like, you know, like they
won't listen to us. Negotiation is not an option. We're you know, we're doing what we have to do to survive. There is actually a side mission where you are leaping around a building for her, and while that's happening, she is literally narrating like a socialism one O one lecture at you. It's the most like surface level bullshit thing. It's so weird. I don't know, like the politics of that game don't really matter very much, Like
what's happening in it doesn't really matter. It's definitely a story reboot as opposed to a full on prequel or people. They straight up change what the nature of Faith's relationship to her sister was. And I got that wrong coming out of the previous stuff because the way it opens makes it seem like like even even when they make this big deal out of giving you your runner clothes back, yeah, you know, it's like here's the iconic Faith outfit put it
on. They keep like the basic backstory, but like the sister character plays into a lot of what's happening, at least, like her history with her family and all that stuff, and I don't know, Man, the twist they try and deliver on this one is just the most telegraphed obvious thing I've seen in the game in a good long while. It's not good. It's it's not a good story, but you know, again, as a playground to run around in, it's kind of neat. But the game parts of
it did not do as much for me as I was hoping. That's a shame. Good to know. Yeah, uh, you've been playing anything else? Uh, you know, the usual stuff. I've been playing the Overwatch and and still working my way through Uncharted and Doom in small spurts because I kind of want those games to last for a bit. But yeah, that's that's pretty much Benett. Did you uh do you want to play in Overwatch on PC? No? I'm playing on PS four. You're still on console?
Yeah, I remember you're saying in Slack the other day it was like impossible to find people to play with us. Not impossible, but it's it definitely seems like more of my friends are playing on PC than on PS four. I have a ton of friends on PS four. I hate the divide, like I'm playing with a bunch of people on PC, but a lot of people it feels like a game that should have cross platform. Yeah,
I know, great, Yeah, I know. They came out before release saying like that's it wouldn't be fair because like turn speed is a big thing, and you know, mouse users would have a huge advantage and stuff. I want to say. There was something just out either today or this week where they were kind of talking about some of the future updates for the game, and they were saying they wouldn't be opposed the idea of Xbox One PS
four cross platform sure play, but I think that would make sense. But putting put putting GamePad people against mouse and keyboard people like that doesn't I get it. But the aiming in that game and the way that that you know, there's like a decent amount of like window room for you to get your shot in. I feel like it doesn't require the same precision as a lot of other Go ahead. Oh, if you're like Turbiorn or Mercy or someone like yeah you don't or Fara, you know, it's all kind of like
splash damage. You're kind of homing stuff you don't need, even like Eniauta, Like if I'm just throwing those orbs in the general direction of a dude. It seems like it's doing the dayment. She was incredibly generous. I saw there was an animated gift going around yesterday of Hanzo. Yeah, from his perspective making a shot like through the lip of a doorway, Like the person is fully obscured by the edge of this doorway and he basically kind of
shoots into the wall. Yeah, and still get the kills through. Yeah. Like it. It seems like they're really fudging a lot of the aim stuff. I think that's okay though, because it because all the characters are like that. I think it all kind of blends together, and it's part of what has made me enjoy that game is honestly, like, I don't feel like I have to be incredibly precise with my It's what always kills me
in competitive first person shooters is I'm just not that precise. And game again is all about just big, splashy special abilities and team composition and synergy. Have you played as Winston much? Oh? Yeah, he's like fourth or fifth on my list and its played he is. He is great for if you don't want to be precise. Oh, Yeah, monkey raging around and punching people. Just dropped that shield and just start electrocuting motherfuckers, all branches
out and hits everything. Yeah, he's it's good. I'm really liking him. It's like Zenyatta Winston Zaria Soldier seventy six. Seventy six is pretty good. Yeah. And there was one other one that I've been playing a bunch of lately, uh, Torbiorn I's just started messing around with and I like him. I like junk Rat too. I've kind of I started to get into junk Rat. Yep. He's really good. Jeff, you're still playing much. I end up playing like one match of it last night, yeah,
and then stopped. That's kind of what I do. I play like two or three matches at night, and that's that I do hours every night. Jeez. I just haven't had a ton of time, and I'm just you know, like E three coming up all those fatally. As I sat down, was like, oh, I'm gonna actually I'm gonna get some overwatching and played one match, I was like, good, Yeah, I had enough. I'm the total opposite, like we have to force ourselves to go to bed at the end of every name, like, damn it, we
want to do another one. Well, having somebody sitting next to you also playing would I'm sure would make it. Yeah. It helps that my girlfriend does not actually enjoy watching me play that game very much. So after a point, I'm like, you know what we're good for? Tonight's cool. I told Bianca that, like, oh my god, it's kind of concerning the amount of like mobile like speak that's coming from our living room now.
Lots of like okay, why don't you you know, you resume or you give me the power boost while I hit my alt And it's just stuff that I've never said before because I don't play multiplayer games that much. Now we're doing the lane starts entering your vocabit lane or and that's when it comes That's when it comes to a head. But I'm kind of getting it now, Like I kind of got the motive stuff a little bit with Hearers of the Storm. You want to check out some lane? No, No, I'm
gonna be playing Overwatch for a long time. Stay in your lane, Brad, all right. I started to get the mobid thing a little bit with here Is of the Storm, at least kind of appreciating it. Or seeing what the appeal was. But now that I'm seeing all these different characters that I like playing and seeing how their abilities play off each other, and playing as a team or at least even just me and Bianca, it's really really
fun. So I kind of get that. And obviously Overwatch is not a MOBI, but the way those characters are in their abilities it seems similar, right, It's it takes some ideas they have alts. Yeah, yeah, Like whenever I get the Soldier seventy six is old and somebody's holding a point, the other team is like, will wait and she'll give me the power up beam from Mercy. I'll pop the old and go in there and just
like you know, wipe their whole team. It's you know what, Actually playing that game with my DOOTA friends is really fun because all the abilities, everything that they talk about is just in Dota terms, Like yeah, like even who's the who's the character that will like snare? Is it Roadhog? And the chain that like it just kind of a magic ability that sort of just snares and pulls everybody section grenades. She's the sorry, yeah, what's
what is tracers? Tracer throws down of mine? I haven't been able to figure out what the hell it does. It's like a pulse mind or something. I think it's I think it repels right when ye bounce somebody back. I think it does okay anyway, like every time and nothing. I don't really use trace her at all, Like like that that that suck everybody inability
is just a black hole. Like you just talk about the things in terms of what they are in Doda. Yeah, the Zaria one's really good on that stage where there's that big gap in like that that pit in the center, Like if you can just drop that thing, if there's a couple of enemies nearby and just drop that like near that, they will get their asses pulled in. It's pretty good. The Farrah concussive blast thing where she shoots
the grenade that launches him back, that is fantastic. There's ever an edge or that well in the center that one stage and just send him flying. Oh, it's so good. Like God, your Reinhart while he's charging you and he goes over the edge. Reinhart is the best looking character that I never want to play. He's always helpful to have on your team. Oh he is. I'd never want to play him though, No, no, I don't want to hold the damn shield. Definitely, that's your weekly Overwatch
discussion. He's good to hear. He was so good it is. I'm curious how much people stick with it post e three, of course. I it's kind of a dry period in the summer, right a little bit. I think it depends on when they start rolling out stuff. Yeah, have they They've said a little bit. They've kind of they've started talking about their cadence a little bit and some of the stuff that's coming up in terms of new characters and maps. Oh, they're straight talking characters already. Yeah,
there's there's one. There's at least one one that's been confirmed that Cheese and Sniper. Yeah, okay, everything's free righting maps, characters and that's what they're saying. Okay, As I think it's just by cosmetics and awesome, I mean, that's just kind of the way of things with multiplayer shooters these
days, which I think that's fine with me. I think that makes sense, especially because I just think that that game, for as for as good as I do think it is, I think like it is thin content wise, like, especially especially on consoles where there is no forty dollars option, like there are definitely Like I'm at a point where I'm like, I need
maps. Yeah. The thing for me is, like I the other multiplayer shooters I've played for long periods of time have typically been called duties, where there are you know, you're leveling up, you're unlocking things, you know,
there's a progression. They are things to look forward to. With this, it's just the loot boxes and whatever random sprays instead of you get But I think that speaks to how good that game is, because I'm still playing it obsessively every night, even without like you know, yeah, loot boxes are fine, and I like opening those, but there's not some end goal. I'm just playing it this much because I'm having so much fun. Yeah, you know, especially because the unlocks don't change the game and yeah,
yeah it's like, oh I got a different skin and that's cool. I guess that's also what's keeping me from ever spending money on those as I just don't care. Like and also, like I said, as someone who bought like fifty boxes, like the draw to level up is the draw to like continue to play, and like, oh if I keep playing, I get the consecutive XP bonus on top of that, so I should probably play a bunch in a row. Noah, I don't care. I've bought the cosmetics
and now that whole system seems broken. So like my recommendation continues to be never buy a lootbox, right, you have not look forward to because because A don't buy cosmetics. But I'll be also like don't like it totally disrupts like the feeling of like, oh what I level up and got a box that's cool and just becomes like a there's another one of these. I don't know. I've gotten so many spray only boxes at this point that I'm already
kind of disrupted from that. Yeah, that definitely doesn't help. A. Nine out of ten boxes I get are three of the common gray ones and one blue one. Yeah, I've gotten one legendary and it's a hat tip for Macree. It's like it's like in a moat great awesome legendaries are the orange ones? Yeah, epics or purple is yeah? Literally the same color system is stone yeah yeah, uh yeah. I think we said this exact
thing, this exact thing last week. But like the t F two model of like starting to roll in weapons that actually do different things, Like it kind of makes you wonder if they'll ever go down the road of like I wonder there was a gun that shoots a different type of projectile. I wonder, But I also think that would be bad for the game. Yeah. I heard that the skins can change abilities, like the way they look, not functionally, but like if you have the young Hanzo, his dragon turns
into a giant like wolf spirit stuff like that. I believe that. Yeah, I wonder how many characters that game could support, Like, what is a twenty twenty one? Now? Definitely right right? I think they could probably get it up to thirty yeah, and still have it and maintain that balance once they start getting into like forty or fifty range, It's like, well, okay, now you just have a WWE game roast year at this point, presumably we're not talking about these scores. What if what if Josina
was literally in the probably get like Darren Young at that point? All right, you say what Backlund's been talking about this whole time? Yeah, you guys have your own podcast for this fits right right? Uh yeah, all right, Dan? Yeah, did you finish Doom yet? Keep wanting to I'll play it, but then I'll just want to keep playing over on get Out. It's only like halfway from Doom at this point. Yeah, I'm
I really like that game. I've just been dragging it. Now that I am playing with the mouse and keyboard, it is, it's much better. How's it? Some hang on, you're on a lapboard of some kind? No, that's right, No you're just like, oh right, you're yeah, yeah, you were talking about a lapboard they had. I just walking down here, I saw in the storage closet they have that big lap dog
thing, which I think is specifically for that. So I might see if I can borrow that and see, like how that is, I think to hear, like, you know, I feel like people have been talking about lapboards since the Phantom, right, yep. I think this might just be like a shell that it's supposed to like just be comfortable and then you put your stuff on it. But okay, I'll take a look masks to see that working. But like, I've never liked the idea of like having my
mouth pad on my knees, you know, not much movement. It's to my right, it's to my right. But yeah, i'd be curious, curious to hear how that works out. Play Doom. Yeah it sh I did have a friend in town that doesn't play a lot of games anymore, and he's like, hey, are there any new games out that I should try. I was like, oh, you would probably like Doom, and so we left the bar and we went home and I made him play two hours of Doom and he bought it immediately. So I'm preaching the word of
spreads for the good word. Yeah, excellent. I gotta get that satan out there. Yeah, that's what we always say. Yeah, he'll say, yeah, Jeff, hello, you play anything. I have been fooling around, well, not so much lately. So I played some Dangerous Golf. Oh right, yes, that's right. That came out. I totally want to play that this weekend, and I tried to. Yeah, if I did not have Mirrors Edge, it would have play that. That game's
got some fascinating issues. Yeah yeah, So I don't know, Like my first impression was really negative of Dangerous Golf, Like when when when we got it in hand, when they brought it out, it was like, oh, this looks interesting. But I was having trouble wrapping my mind around the mechanics a little bit when they were showing it off, and then it just kind of came out seemingly like a handful of days early. Yeah, like
it Yes, it literally dropped early on Steam. And then it just has a lot of problem I was playing the PC version, which has like no mouse and keyboard support, so requires a controller. It's a little finicky about which controllers it supports, and it has no setup for like, hey, here's how you accomp here's how you accomplish your goals, here's what your goals even are, here's how to play. It's like, here's a control it all it says is here's a controller layout that's going to show go to you
on the loading screen. Get in there, which if you're on PC, is pretty quick. Yeah, right right, And so the act of playing the game is mysterious. And if I hadn't, if if the developers had not come out up here and sat with us and played a bunch of the game, I probably would have played two holes of it and be like, I don't even know what the fuck I'm doing. Forget this game. Like it's just so it just seems like difficult to penetrate out of the out of
the gate. But I stuck with it a little bit, and and you know, had knowledge from them bringing it by, so that definitely helped, and kind of started wrapping my mind at around it a little bit and kind of got into it. It's a physics seed. It's it's it's a physics demo, you know, right. You make the golf ball bounce around the
room and fuck a bunch of shit up. You get points for fucking shit up, and then at the end of fucking shit up, you hit the ball in the hole, and if you miss the hole, you lose half your money. I even after watching you play that game for thirty minutes, I'm still not clear if making the put is actually automated or not. I don't know. Sometimes I miss it, but you I just tap up on the sticks to go in. Sometimes it bounce off walls and go in, And I didn't even set that up, so I don't I don't know.
It's such a The game is like inscrutable, Like I have go on and by that time you've destroyed much of the room, so the path between you and the hole is covered in fucking physics chunks and garbage and statues and shit so it's just like, I don't even know what I'm doing. Yeah, it feels like very much a game that they had a concept in mind. They didn't necessarily have a design doc in mind, but they said, well, what if we just built this thing and then we'll see what falls out
of it. I thought, like, when the announcement came out and they briefly describe what it was, I was like, that sounds perfect. It sounds great. People crash Mode like should make a game like yeah, and a lot of it is burnout of crash Mode. You know, there are
definitely parallels for that sort of stuff. But it feels like it needs someone who has not been making this game for the past however many years, to just come in and write a manual for it, or to someone that can come in and like, say, explain this game to me in layman terms, not in the way that you guys talk to each other about it, because you are a small team that has been working on this game for a very long time. Like just someone to come in and freshly pick it apart
and go, here's how you play. Here's a way to get people to understand these basic concepts very quickly. Out of the gates, they can just kind of get on with it and start having a good time. So like, like when the room is pristine at the beginning of a level, do you feel like when you're lining up that first shot that there's actually technique to it or you're just kind of picking an angle and being like, well, let's see what happens. I'm just picking an angle something. See what Let's
see what happens. I mean obviously, like you know, if you want to go for the higher metals and stuff like that, you're gonna want to think a little more. But I'm just looking at it like, looks like there's a bunch of shit over here to break. Let's do that, right, And these are all the early holes. They're like a hundred holes in this game, so you know, I assume that near the end you would hope that they would be trick here. How different are the environments? So
there are there are not a hundred environments. Okay, it'll be like, hey, here's this dining room again, but now there are instead of a table and a bunch of shit on the table, here are some statues and
there's a bunch of other stuff around them. Okay, I think I mean it's like it's four locations, right, It's four locations with like five environments each or something like that, and and some of them are connected, so you get doors open, you can go from the bathroom to this other room and like kind of open up. And they have some modes and some additional
stuff there too. So people have and very up in arms about the PC version of that game since release for its lack of mouse and keyboard support, and it's like given in the menus, like yeah, you literally you can't even against the main menu menus. Yeah. I'd heard from some people that that version, like you loaded up and just your audio just that's me. Yeah, my computer's audio, Like if I even have it running in the background, I can't like watch a YouTube video. Like my entire system audio
is shut down. My surround sound receiver does not get any sort of input if dangerous golfing. That seems bad. Yes, I messed around with it. Lots of people on Twitter gave me advice, and there are a lot of people having different issues of that sort with the game as well. You're an issue, my issue. So the game took a patch, took another
three gigs or so are you playing on PC. Yeah, okay, over the weekend and I launched it. It's an Unreal Engine game, and it launched and showed like this weird narrow strip of the main menu on the screen, and also it launched the Oculus Home app. So that narrow strip is the same resolution that a lot of VR games spit out to the desktop when they launch, like what you're getting when you get the one eye. Yeah. Yeah, So like, well, okay, they stealth added VR support.
Yeah, So for a second, I was like, oh, man, did they totally because when they were out here, I asked about VR and they were like, ah, you know more than I do. I don't know. We're you know, we're just trying to get this thing done. So I was like, okay, well that makes sense because it seems like a game that would be built for that. It seems like a game that could benefit from VR. And I was like, well, I don't
know. That seems like a weird thing to add when so many other things are messed up, but let's put this headset on and see what happens. And sure enough, the main menu is displaying in the headset, but not in VR, not in any kind of three sixty degree environment. It's just a flat image being so if you try to like use like virtual desktop and try to spit videos at the headset, they're not like VR videos, but you can turn on like the viewing modes like they are VR videos. Yeah,
it looks like that. Or it's just spitting this image across your two eyes and they don't line up, and the menu's not there. It's like it's it's way too close, so your eyes crossed. It is unpleasant. It is incredibly unpleasant to look at. And so you couldn't even play the game this way. It's it's obviously like not meant to work this way, but for whatever reason, the game is detecting the rift and launching that way. It is still stuck that way. Yeah, unless you like I assume
if you won't plug the head I would have to plug that headset. I assume. I assume that would make it work. But that's wild. But the way I got all that stuff set up, I'm not going to crawl behind my PC to unhook the headset. It's not worth it, So I will wait for them to fix it. Yeah, I think it's playing anymore of it. Hopefully they put some posts really support into this thing because it's it's you know, it seems like there's some value there and in this idea.
Hey there was an idea there that I really want to play. Yeah, yeah, me too, but it sounds like it needs to be clean. Yeah, it's And for a game that like somehow just seemed to slip out early like that, that seemed even weirder, you know, it was like, okay, is it self published? Yeah, okay, here's the game that is launch that has like a cool core idea, but like needs a lot of well more than four days worth of work, I assume, But like for it to launch early and feel as finished as it does just
seems really crazy. And this is an early access, this is the game. Is the game's out, it's like twenty bucks. I think I believe it's out on consoles now as well. I think I think I saw some people saying it came out on at least on PS four. Yeah, I think Xbox one two. But I suspect that that would not be a great version to play, just because the you know, the the way the physics are getting simulated and all that stuff. I just I bet the performance would
not be great. Yeah, they brought a build of the game out that was not final, but we saw it on PS four and it was like, Okay, maybe I want to see this on a PC. But now the PC version is broken in all sorts of different fun way. It sounds like crazy too. So yeah, it's you know, maybe I'll get they'll get there, but I wonder if by the time they get there, if
anyone will be paying attention. Yeah, I mean it's it's kind of doubly unfortunate because hey, it's a cool idea that sounds like it deserved better. But then b it's like, these are largely the people who created Burnout. Yeah, like you know, who knows how much of their fortunes rest on the performance of this game. Oh sure, this is the first game from this studio. Also yeah, yeah, so we'll see, we'll see if they get there. There is a neat idea behind all of it. But
yeah, like I said, I just don't know. Nothing has come of speaking of that e three years ago, that like that video they led with that was like, hey, here are some of the people that worked at Criteria and I don't know, the super early kind of demo we're have a name like epic. I don't remember if they had a name. I just it also seemed very much like this is we have this little wet works area over here that these people are working in. This is what they're messing around
with. That'll be something soon. There were a TVs and helicopter, multiple vehicles of different types. Yeah, yeah, I don't think anything ever came of that. I don't think they put it. No, nothing has coming that put a name on it. I don't know that they did. But so I suspect that that is still being worked on. But I don't know how many people are part of Criterion anymore. Like that is it's still technically a brand for them. I think that's still at that time. I remember
at the time Criterion name. And I'm also I was never clear exactly what the split was with Ghost Games, Like how many people went over to that. I think the majority of people, a lot of my understanding, went to you know, it was a bas like, hey, if you want to keep working on driving games, we have a studio for you, and it his name to Ghost Games, and Ghost Games worked on that need for speeding. Yea, they are they are the need for speed to Yeah,
so you have it. We have a driving franchise and is called for speeding. Yeah, not Burnhount and never So yeah, this whatever this team at Criterion is, as I understand it has helped out on some of the need
for speed games anyway, and and maybe some other stuff. I don't know, but Black too, Black is mentioned by three Fields, like they say like, oh, we have people who worked on Black here too, so they are they are kind of claiming some of the Also the head guy on Stuart Black, Stuart Black, uh make of the director of Black's last name is blackouts right. Yes, that game was billed as this is the next game from the creator of Black. Oh fuck, and that game was bad.
Yeah, that's true. That's very true. I gotta say, though, that's some balls golf balls, Stewart Black. What's okay? So what's the name of your shooter Black Black? What? Yeah, that's it's It's a really good name for it for a game of any type, really, especially that the game that that was. It's like maybe a little presumptuous, but hey, you do you that's fine, It's ballsy for sure. No, man, Yeah, I don't know. I went back and played some
Black not that long ago. And it kind of like that game wasn't awful, No it was not, but it was not great, like because of so much of the level design boiling down to we are going to spawn a bunch of people and they are going to stand right next to this red barrel and you're just gonna shoot the red barrels over and over again. And boy, our explosions look good. But that's kind of all we got. Yeah,
totally. I never played that game, but I went to the E three presentation for it, and I feel like I got what I needed. Is the one where they said, like, oh, we wanted to be fun to shoot a gun. It was an empty room. It was all about like the sound design and how good it was and how many speakers they had in them, and it was that is still that is still one of the best three demos I've ever heard, really good. For sure, it sounds like the game didn't live up to that kind of glad. I didn't
not at all. That game's not bad, but it is not the game that we saw a D three. The box are just shell casings in the word black yep. I think that's right that tirebox artists in that game. But like if you go back and play that now and and think about like what a Call of Duty campaign is, you see it? You see it back then, like the game doesn't control as well, and the shooter conventions for controls were not quite as dialed in then as they are now like three
or four or something. It was like, right, wasn't it, Like right at the tail end of the original E was Yeah, I think oh, four was the year. Yeah, that's probably right, the four. Somewhere in there. I was working in game spots. It was then. I think it came out on, Yes, it was on, And yeah, I remember being pretty disappointed by that thing. I reviewed that game.
I don't know I remember, but I think, yeah, like there are technical aspects of it that you cannot deny, but in terms of like what that game could have been, And you you think about what that studio did for the driving game and their whole pitch being we're going to do that for the first person shooter, you're like fucking ay, and you're like, Okay, no, this is not that at all. Yeah, Criteria used to be a name you looked for. That studio was a force to be reckoned
with Renderwear Baby. Yeah, yeah, there was that I just rocks. I just dug out my copy of Burnout three the other day. I think we're gonna do a stream of that time when I get back to New York. So I never I never played. I really never played the first four Burnout games, but I got Paradise when everybody was going to ape shit about it and like, holy shit, three is the one you're gonna go back to an old one three one three is one of the mini games that I
have bought, and it is stolen the shrink wrap. So I never played the first two, but three was one of them that they had. I was on campus and some EA rep would go around the dorms and show off games coming out let's yeah, oh yeah, contests. I've heard of that before. Yeah, the community outreach. Baby fucking e A street team knock on in your dorm room door and just going like, yo, man, you want to buy a sack? Okay, how about this copy of FIFA?
Hey many man, you hear about that FIFA? We got that FIFA. Did they quietly leave a suspicious pringles can on your floor as they left? No? No, they took it with him. No, it actually worked. I bought like Fight Night, MVP Baseball. They were just selling games as they went. No, Like they would have demos and I would play them and be like, shit, I actually really like this. You still have to go out and get the game somewhere, I think so.
I think they would have contests. I think I won MVP Baseball because I think I didn't buy that one. They had some kind what a thing to home run Derby. It was a good game. Yeah, But then yeah, I played like one level of Burnout three, having that played the previous two and like, oh, well, I'm gonna go buy this immediately.
She was all right, Two was all right. Two, but three, one and one and two for their time, we're close were acclaim games, yes man, but like Burnout three is where it all lined up for them. Yeah, and and Revenge I still really like, yeah, it was three, the first one that had crash mode or was that just where crash mode became like came into it was where it was perfect, where it was where they really nail it. Okay, Yeah, Revenge is really really good.
I mostly remember that being like, well, here's your first Burnout on Xbox three sixty and you know it kind of lived up to that I've I've come to I've come to understand that there's a segment of the Burnout fan base that did not love Paradise. Yeah, and also, I mean there are people that don't like Revenge also because of the traffic checking and because it was
just a grim It was a darker game. Burnout three is Ridge Racer, Daytona Blue Skies, Okay, all right, Like nineties Arcades is the most feat horrible car accidents, and then Revenge is like, these streets are gritty and we're going to smash these cars. It still looks in plays like old Burnout, it just has a slightly different color tint too, Yeah, exactly. And that was enough for some people to be like, no, this is this this naw the forward looking optimism I want from my Burnout games.
It was. It was kind of a downer of a decade. Yeah, get down to it. So every every game was I totally understand why people don't like Paradise. It is such a different thing. But I love Paradise. Don't get me wrong. I think Paradise is amazing. But so many
good things about it. Yeah, yeah, even even around the edges, like for like never mind, how good like all the driving and crash stuff is but just like time in an open world, you ever wanting to do everything in Yeah, everything from like you know, eight player donut contests to their use of the Xbox Vision camera and like, yeah, man, such a good so many good things in that game. An amazing game and and
like a first like good example of like great post release support. Yeah, which was as I understand that, like kind of experimental for EA at the time that you know, you gotta remember this is like not it was like oh seven. Yeah, that was like the height of like, oh god, we have stopped people from trading games. It came out in early oh eight, yeah, but yeah, yeah, it was at the height of like online pass like handwringing and like, okay, how can we get people
to stop selling our games back? Uh? So, like Paradise was kind of like the the big experiment of like trying to you can sell this content for a good long time after the fact, or just release some of it for free. Even that was before every card game was like hey we put the DeLorean in there, right, I think that was the first one to do it. Yeah. Yeah, there was some some real kitchy attitude to that thing like TJA Atomic was such a shiphead and god, I wanted to
leg drop that dude so hard. But yeah, and they had that Guns and Roses storm they did. Yeah, what a game they did. Yeah, it was a good game. It's a good time. Uh the servers still up for that thing? Can you still play it? Good? That's good time? Team? Right? It might be I think it is. Yeah, Yeah, it definitely was at one point. I mean I know that because you know, yes, But I don't know if it still is. It might be a case of like a pulled back and now everything's just
on origin. If they take something down from the Steam, if you bought it before, you still have it, okay, even if you've uninstalled it. Yeah, it still stays in your library. Cool. That would be super fucked up if they just revoked at your access to the games that you paid for. Might I play that tonight? Uh? That that hit the three sixty back compat, didn't it Paradise? Yeah? I swore it did not yet. I've seen a lot of talk about that, but I don't
know if it ever actually hit. That should happen. It should The skate games need to come there too, you know, now Now, that he has come out and said basically that the dream is dead. Yeah. In one Twitter response, Yeah, I haven't played any of the skate games in so long, and I would totally I would totally get those. They're worth They're worth playing. It's I remember just being really put off because you know, I grew up a Tony Hawk player and there's very arcady games and they
don't they don't require the level of precision that skate did. And I alsought skate was cool, but it always felt a little, uh, I don't know, it was just a little beyond me at the time. I found like it was made four skateboarders. Yeah, and as someone who cannot stand on a skateboard, I love Tony Hawk and I could not say I was a skateboarder, but I was a very bad one. So that's probably why I never really clicked what you want to hold pizzas one grind? Yeah,
yeah, I get it. I want I want Officer, I want that dude. I want I want to be you know, the fat Slovenly cop fight. It was skating against Superman, yep, Spider Man, whatever, Officer, the same dick. That's right? Well Wayne, now yeah, now, it's a little weezy wheezy f baby Tunci. We've lost so much. And the teenage mutant Ninja Turtles. They patched them into that game after the fact. Sure that turned it around for them. Tony Hawk five,
Yeah, did they make Tony Hawk five great again? The whole campaign worked. Did they actually shut the servers down for that or no? I don't think so. I saw some people last week speculating that they or the thought that they were going down like that. It seemed like those servers we're gonna get taken off line. I bet there is not a very strong player base for that game online sixty dollars. The way it handled online was poor. Yeah, the way it handled everything was poor. Yeah. Yeah that game
is a bad game. Yeah. Yeah, that shame. Do you play anything else? So you want to talk about or we move on? We got so much news. No that that's that's a video games. That's pretty much it. Okay, all right to it, guys. I don't think we have to go to E three. Oh I think it already happened. Wait what I think? Like by the hour at this point, the announcements of E three are getting announced. Whether they want to be announced. There
are a lot of big announcements hitting this week. There are a lot of things coming out. Can I just preempt you because I know what? Can I just say it? I just want to say, with the biggest news story here, okay, because I know I know what you're going with, I know what you're opening with, and I have it over here on my laptop. I just want to say, just because it just broke like minutes ago here, I just like saying it. Maybe we'll stay it together,
I'll say at the same time. Okay, three, two one six, dine out? Yeah, okay, buildings on, dine run your own restaurant in the SIMS be four. Go ahead, continue, Actually that doesn't sound terrible. What's the name of your restaurant going to be? Uh? SIMS four restaurants? Okay, yeah, I feel like you could maybe work shop that a little, but it's a good strong foundation. Hang on, hang
on, I've work shopped it. Are you ready? Yes, restaurant for SIMS number four or the word four four number four, So it plays both as sim Jeffrey Gersman, you've done it again. Sim's got to eat too. They eat, they're not people, starve them to death. Build the ball around them and let them die. No, no, no, let them eat all they want, just don't provide them a bathroom, because Lord knows they come into diner, but they can never leave. That's the way
to go. All right, yeah, man, uh, some things have gotten announced, but way more things have leaked. Can we just go on on record and say, this is most likely all this stuff that did not find a slot onto one of the major press conferences. Oh do you think that's the ka? I think some of it may be because could something has been announced. Yes, anything that's been like formally confirmed and announced is probably not gonna be Like we're not going to get the big tension spot here next
week, so let's just get it out now. And in a couple of cases it's like the entire lineup of a press conference, right potentially Yeah, but then but then yeah, the other side, like all the leak stuff like that. Yeah, yeah, I think more like the game announcement stuff. Okay, Well, I have I have roughly ordered these and the important in the order of importance to me. Okay, okay, so let's go down the line and I'll stand as it is your podcast. Okay, Okay,
see if how we would have were okay. Also, yeah, i'll i'll denote what has been leaked and what is actually legit announced. Mine just says Bill Goldburg is pre ordered DLC over and over and over again, like eighteen times in all right, go on. Volition is making a new game and it's a new IP, well kind of. It's in the Saint Croo cinematic universe. It's it's got a new name on it, and it's about yes, yes, so it is technically a new IP. It's called Agents
of Mayhem. Yeah. It seems to be some kind of open world superhero open world South Korea. A Hoy motherfucker plays three characters from a roster of twelve. Have those details? Got No, it's initial. So they're taking pre orders and there's some bullet points and some reach about some of this stuff.
I just saw the cinematic teaser for this, yeah, yeah, trailer with no gameplay in it, but just enough you know, they're using the floridae, the just enough of the Saints colors and logo ahole lot of purple in that trailer to let you know that in this version of the future, slash pass slash well, it's hard to call it future pass considering the last Saints Row ended with the time machine, Uh what, this is a game
of future past? Sure, I mean I think the big talking computer heads at the end that the boss lady of the superheroes is taking orders from says all tour on it. Yeah, so that's also in Red Paction. They don't own anymore. Oh right, So but well a'll tormate its way into
Saints Row prior to this. Is that one of those things that got bought by Nordic Yeah, okay, yeah, yes, yeah, and so yeah, there's like a you know, the the reference that the colors and the logo and stuff like that, like that, one could imply that perhaps this is just what the Saints became at some point in the future slash past, slash alternative. It's the Korean it's a South Korean branch of the Saints.
Sure, they're crackdown guys. Now. Yeah. Part of me watching that thing, especially at the end when the Saints logo came up and everything, part of me was hoping it was just a beaten switch stealth Saints Row announcement that they actually pull back and like, oh, by the way, this game is released. Yeah yeah, but it's probably better if they make something
new. Yeah. I think it's cool that they're they're trying something that is at least, you know, thematically has some ties to Saints Row, but they are getting to at least like branch out beyond the here's another open world crime game. Yeah, although it is, they very much came out and said, hey, it's a single player open world game. That's fine, like that with a bunch of crazy abilities. I think that's fine. But at least it's it has some differences and they can dig an experiment a little
bit, I hope. Yeah. It's a very you know, very irreverent tone in that thing, Like it was sort of like kind of the Incredibles, like superheroes go like a little sweary. Yes they're not swear, but they don't like cursing. Yeah, Cursey, Yes, Yeah. One of the characters rolls up and just blurts out an unbleeped motherfucker, And I was like, wow, is that where we're at with our cinematic trailersals? Now, the word awesome has been used on basic cable television no less than a
handful of times this year. Really, yes, can you just do that? Now? You kind of always could because they're basic the fcole. I mean, there are still regulations. It's not network TV, but like I've heard it on like basic cable networks and like and usually it's the thing they don't do before ten pm. Yeah, Comedy Central would do the like Midnight Vault. We're gonna show this. Yeah. Yeah, it's got an edge
to it. Oh yeah, it's I mean, the trailer whatever, there's no gameplay in it, so you can't really you can't really take too much from But I think in terms of tone and what they're saying about the game, I am interested to see more. Same the Bison accomplished on the trailer and the list of bullet points on Amazon in terms of like, Okay, I want to this is a game. I want to see more. Yeah.
Yeah, I can't say. You know, I would like if you would said, hey, another superhero game, I wouldn't necessarily jump out of my seat. But since it's Folition, yeah, and it doesn't necessarily Yeah, I mean they seem like they're you know, it fits this twelve character team. Then presumably it is some kind of fighting force. Yeah, the Agents of Mayhem presumably, yes, uh and and all that, but yeah, I don't know, I didn't it didn't necessary. It read more as
special operatives with fun powers as opposed to superhero to me. Yeah, sure, but sure, but yes, and one and one of the characters is basically the Mizka. One of the playable characters. Yeah, is that Hollywood
was his name is Hollywood. Name is Hollywood? Okay. He calls in a stunt double to do his special move the trailer, which if that is a move in the game, that that that's the type of thing I would like to see in the game of like, Hey, I'm gonna hit call this ability and it's going to make a clone of the run up and do it if a guy who kind of looks like you rugs out and actually does the ability. Yeah, there's some some good names in there, like doctor
Babylon is the villain. Uh, I forget that. The boss lady's name was really good. It was like miss miss Brimstone or something like that. I forget. Yeah, yeah, it seems promising, and we have an appointment to see that that show. Yeah, and I think and I think play it okay, I think we might get to play that. That's out next year. Okay, But yeah. I would like to see more of
that. Yeah. Yeah, and I'm glad that they are sticking to you know, they kind of said a while back that, you know, they wanted to maybe get away from Saints for at least at least a little bit. Yeah, and they should. This is certainly Saints adjacent. Yes, this is leveraging some of their strengths. Yeah, without without going back to that, well, I'm happy that they're gonna at least branch out a bit. I do very much hope Keith David is in that game somewhere though.
You should be one of the twelve. Yeah, and you should be able to fuck him and it should just be it should just be Keith David. Yeah. Oh my god, that build romance Keith David. That that home base mothership thing and for soho inspired. Yeah. Yep, man, it's like the best part of four. I actually kind of just want to play Saints or four again. It's good. Okay that was announced, Okay,
this was not Dead Rising four. Yeah, potentially elaked. Yeah. This has been swirling around for a little bit even before this, like logo and supposed screenshot and title screen and stuff got out. Some other info coming out of like, oh, there might be a zombie game on the Xbox or something like people people have been data mining Xbox Live and posting weird shit to
Reddit. Yeah stuff. And then and then also there were just some people going like, oh, Capcom Vancouver is definitely working on a Dead Rising game, which of course they are. Yeah, they made two of them already. They were both good. That is what that studio, well whatever, they made that baseball game before they got bought right, right, but yes, that is they are the Dead Rising studio. Yeah. Dead people like Dead Rising. They should make another one of those. I like Dead Rising.
I'm excited. I didn't like the last couple of Dead Risings as much as other people. Dude, I thought three was great. I love three for kind of other reasons, or it's you know, three's okay, three more smartass fan. Yes, I used that. I used smart glass for three. I couldn't great. I couldn't get to work, right. I just don't think three. It didn't hit me the way it did a lot of other people, Like I don't think it's a bad game. It just
did like at a certain point I just kind of petered out. It was it was not as Dead Rising, like not even remotely, Like you know, it was a lot more of a meat potato meat and potatoes open world game because it didn't by default did not have the weird time and starting over stuff. And I actually liked that, Like that was the stuff. I was kind of glad they did. It's just the other stuff that was kind of the wrapper around it just didn't hold me for that. That is absolutely
well Dead Rising games. Some of the main story characters were okay, especially the weird ship that happened at the end that tied into the previous games, which I have spoiled on Game of the Year podcast and stuff, But so I look for that if you want. But the like the psychos in particular, like there was there was, there was like less of this like absurd macab kind of like really disturbing tone that the last two games had. Yeah,
it was a psycho encounters and stuff. It was still goofy as ship though, which did I worry with That first trailer was like calling an air strikes and stuff. It didn't show all the weird way rights and stuff, but it's actually goofy, So that that E three showing was like the worst way to show the Rising game. But yeah, like if you want to build a dildog gun, yeah, you can totally do that. I do, Yeah you should. That's we should put our heads together make a dildot
gun. So some shark tank, yes, I'm in all right. So I think it's some promo art and one screenshot has come out that seems to be seems theoretically leaked and just something you start to connect to the dots of other leaks and stuff like that and piece together. Like the most likely scenario for Capcom Vancouver is that they would definitely be working on a Dead Rising follow up, and Capcom is in a point at a point right now where they
don't have a lot of announced games. It's all incredibly plausible like this, I'm sure, and I'm sure they will happily take another company's money to make a game with if we don't, we don't know this ends up being just a Microsoft, you know, an Xbox One exclusive, but I would assume do I suspect that's the case, But I guess I don't know. If if I were them and I didn't have an exclusive deal worked out with Microsoft, I would be getting the hell away from that as much as humanly pops.
Well, like I said, the first like the first teases of the stuff came out of like some Xbox Alive. I say, it's not coming to Xato'm saying if I be trying to get that thing on the PlayStation and well, but keep in mind that then your Capcom funding that whole game yourself, which you know Capcom is not a money factory. Yeah, I mean, considering where a street Fighter went, maybe that's just not an option.
So like, I don't I don't know if they place a bet on Dead Rising four unless they have money coming in as someone else's so that that would be it was three successful. I think I think it was. Yeah, it was a launch game like sales like whatever, but the higher prople it was it was arguably the best launch game on either one of those consoles.
Yeah, so yeah, so I would assume it did, okay, just by that virtue, I want you a reason to you know, it gave you all reason to care about the Xbox One and if you didn't care about Rise or some of this other stuff like it was Yeah, definitely the launch game. It was a high profile sequel like that's I think it did everything that I suspect it would have done everything Microsoft wanted that game to do when they made that deal. Do we have any idea how Street Fighters doing for
them for Capcom? Yeah? No, not well, not well, it's just not picking out no. No. And then they missed the window for like they did not have any new content in May. They pushed their May content back but back to June. Yeah, and they're rolling in a booky with the story update and generally speaking, generally speaking, very generally, no one fucking cares, right, So are people just going back to four?
No? No, the fighting game community does not go back so from in a competitive sense, they will keep playing five and five is he is a
really good fighting game? Yeah, but all of the ship around it, it's just with its launch and the things they chose to focus on, and the kind of like broken promises they've had along the way, and the issues they've had that have since been that were solved in other lesser fighting games over the years that they didn't address year like that, Capcom has come out and
said like, hey, we've got this great idea for going forward. We're thinking about finishing games before we shipped like it was it was, it was practical. It was almost literally like we're gonna release stuff, we might miss some dates and do some other stuff. And even with this booky delay, there was like this this like air of like we're committed to getting this right, so we're pushing it back. Oh thank god because we got a booky
good. Uh. And then that seemed like at the corporate level there was even an element of like Capcom's gonna focus on finish on polishing up games before we ship them on account of Street Fight or five is in the fucking tank Man. Is the store live yet? No? So all that fight money sat Yeah, you can spend the fight money. The real money store is not available, okay, So you can use the money for what skins and things skins okay yeah? Uh? And and titles and profiles and stuff.
And in a stage Giles stage is seventy thousand fight moneis or certain amount real money that you can't do yet. No, there's no real money equivalent for that. You real money buys the characters, okay, which are not on sale yet, so you have to so so they're free for everybody right now? Still yes? Uh? And and or you know you buy the season past and you will have them, so they will presume when the shop launches, they will eventually take those characters away from people and say, hey,
please buy Guile. Wait, so they're actually going to take them away as opposed, so you've already downloaded them, you won't be able to access because it's a multiplayer fighting game. You would have had to have downloaded any way to stay in sync with other players, right, So there's no consarn. Yeah, it's part of an update. Files in the game. They just push like pretty big patches. Yeah, it just becomes can you select Guile or not? Is really the thing there, which which for that style of
game, is absolutely the way you have to do it. Yeah. But the notion that because they couldn't get their ship together to launch the store, that they made them free for a good long time, multiple months now, multiple months, and that eventually Alex and Guile and maybe a Bookie will then get pulled away from everyone as a result of Now now we're we have finally gotten it together to where you can buy these characters. So congratulations, we
finally set it up so you can give us money. That said, if you are, if you are, if you care about those characters so much that when they finally do yank them out of the game, you are bummed out. You are probably a candidate for the season pass. Anyway, Yeah, that just all seems very ill considered. You know, Street Fight or five has problems. Yeah, yeah, and very few of those problems have
to do with the way the actual fighting is in that game. It's all like, well, we didn't think about Rage quitting before we shipped this game. It's like, you, what the fuck? It's twenty sixteen. How the fuck did you not? Like I get it, like your cap you know, your your Capcom and Capcom is maybe kind of a weird spot in a few different places. Not every game can be Monster Hunter, but fucking come on. Yeah uh yeah. So anyway, Dead Rising four seems like
a good move. And I my guess is that that Microsoft is picking up the tab on a lot of it. So I've got so this this initially leaked out of a site could of this gin Gaming, but KA Talk. We ran a story about it and and both corroborated some of the stuff they said and also added some details of their own. And they say they have heard this will be at the Xbox Press conference. Makes sense. Also set in Willamette, Colorado scene of the first seame, first game, and the
screenshot that got out is Frank West. All right, so well, I've had the part. Probably Also, it's like Frank West in the snow with the camera. It's it's basically basically the narrative so far. Is this maybe some kind of reimagining reboot type thing the first game? Great? And if you think about how many things have changed since the release of the first Dead Rising, I mean, a modern day reboot of Dead Rising in a city where presumably weed is legal, is a very very different game. Frank West
just getting roasted off. No one is leaving because there are zombies, because they have been zombies for years. It's a shopping mall. That's like it's it's one Zoomies and a whole bunch of dispensaries. That's it. Citi's a mile high, you know what I'm saying. No, I'm not not sure what you Please go into the greater details. Zomies they sell t shirts and trucks for skateboards. Is that like, okay? Is that like a Spencer's No, no, no, it's it's like it's like it's like attillies.
It's the Blink. Okay, yeah, okay, all right, it's pop punk the mall store. Okay, this sounds very West Coast hot topic, right, No, what's that? Sorry? Is that goth? Yes, like mall goth? Like hot Top. You go to hot topic if you want to buy ICP shirts, okay, or or five nights at Freddy's backpack Hangers, or like a reproduced Joy Division shirt, or a zillion different fucking
Funco pops. Oh those fucking things, those fucking if you want to decimate some fucking Funco pops, that you want to a wall full of bullshit Funco pops. Frank West needs to go into the hop topic and go, oh look they got an undertaker Funko Pop. Oh wait, no, here's iron Man. Dude. If you can crack a zombie skull with an undertaker Funko Pop, that game is gonna be all right. That game's gonna be all right, Like it should be representative of real malls in that all the stores
should be closed. The mall is the Zombie and Dead Rising four. There's actually a whole segment, not to get off told of me that there's actually an entire segment in Knight in Woods where you just go hang around a mall that has been all but abandoned. That's great, Like I abandoned malls, so I I well, we talked about it at one point. But I spent some time in central California and not that long ago, and I was in the Clovis Fresno area. There used to be some big, good at
malls in central California. I was at this big, like recently built looking mall where had this beautiful outdoor fountain. Oh wow, you know, just just big wide walkways and like a really great movie theater at the end of it, all this other stuff. And it was a fucking ghost town. Like half the stores were empty. And there was one store in there that seemed to sell anime and fucking swords and knives and they had a ton of fucking knives and nr A shirts and anime. And I was like, man,
fucking Fresno has gotta be a fucking trip. And then I watched hardcore Henry there just to fucking like top off the fucking like just a fucking really ratchet up the tension. Best place for it? Uh, It's really no better place. And I asked the lady at the girl working in the movie theater. I was like, can I ask you something? Is this a mall new? And she knew immediately what I was about to follow up, but she just started nod her head and going, no, it's not.
It's just failed out like great, okay, good's no because it's so it's empty, but also looks brand new because there's no foot traffic. Yeah, zero nothing. It was it's it was beautiful. I had a great time at that fucking basically abandoned malls. That's it's a like new mall. Yeah,
that's gonna become the new like urban spelunking at some point. It's just millions and millions of abandoned malls, like there's are there are a bunch of great like photo shoots of people going out to abandoned malls and just taking pictures and God and stuff. That's why I'm like, I get my life to that. Let's go out to Fashion Island, fucking break in and then do whatever. I saw a video of people riding motorcycles into the abandoned Pontiac Silver
Dome and he's riding around on the fields. Amazing. Yeah, all the seats are like torn up and everything was Yeah, that's all that. Yeah, all that stuff like people, hey, we found a fucking cruise ship that has like thirty arcade machines on it, Like what, how does that happen? All right, Yeah, that did happen. It sounds like they got most of those machines out. Yeah, I think a couple of thankfully they sell salvage of the machines. Yeah, I think a couple of them
maybe had some water damage. I've tried to break into an abandoned six Flags in New Orleans once and but then but the ghosts stopped there. No, it's after a Katrina had shut down, but like all the rides were still there and everything. I don't know if they've taken it down by by now, but yeah, it's all these abandoned roller coasters and water damage rides. That's amazing. Yeah, it looks really cool. It seems like a great place to like get murdered by people who have taken that place as there.
Oh yeah, look at pictures of that. It's really fascinating. All right,
One more thing I'll say about Dead Rising before we move on. Like, I know, like some of these stories are uh speculating that it might be a remake of some sort of the first one, but you know, A, it's numbered like the logos I got Outside Rising four B. I really love the idea of Frank West, like in the chronology getting stranded in a mall and Willamette was zombies again, the same shit after the same guy, super fucking hang dog, just like, god damn it not again,
like he went back to you know to ten years later. I'm gonna take pictures of the place where the zombie break outbreak started. Yeah, whoops. I like Frank West a lot. Oh yeah, yeah as a character. He's a great, shitty character, really fun. He of like of of Nicholas Cage's character and snake eyes. Yes a little bit, yes, yes, a little bit. Yeah, like this kind of like sort of well meaning dude, but also not kind of a dirt back, like a real
dirt back. Yeah. Did that movie come out with Rob Wriggle as Frank West. I think it's still kind of came out. I think it's still in the works. It could have been direct to video. I'm going to open this last might be you might be right. I probably watched that movie. Wait are there two Dead Rising movies? Because I thought because Rob Riggle
is a good cast. That is a fantastic casting. I thought I thought a Dead Rising movie came out like two years ago or something that might have been the Also, like Frank West wasn't the main Dead Rising watch Tower? Is it out? Was released March twenty fifteen on Crackle? Is that Rob Wriggle. There's two things here that say Jesse metcal Jesse Metcalf. Well.
I think there's also Dead Rising Endgame which is coming out this year, which also star There is a second Dead Rising movie coming well, so I think he plays Nick Right, the guy from Dead Rising three. His name is Chase. Oh really, passions and John Tucker must Die? Okay, Yeah, he was on TNT's continuation of Dallas. Just give you an idea of where they continued Dallas. Dennis Hayes, Burton, Billy Zane are the biggest names in this. Okay, sure, President Palmer, that sounds about right.
Virginia Madsen was in the first one. Who's that It's Michael Madsen's sister. That's That's all I know about her? All right? That Rising four probably happening. Wait, No, Roberto is totally Frank West Rising he's not the central Okay, he's just he's just in it. It's a bit part uh potentially less likely, but still rumored. For Microsoft, A lot of people are saying the words Forts the Horizon three, which is which like, yeah, they're due. If we're based on the schedule that they have maintained
up to this point that tracks. My guess would be that if it's somehow not Forts a Rise in three, then it is a forts a game made by the Rise and team that just for some reason has a different name,
different name. Yeah, but sure, but that that has been talked about on on some of these smaller sites, and there's a guy on Neo gaff claiming to have well then I know, yeah right, uh so yeah, Force a Rising three, and then the State of Decay two is also has also come up here and there, and who knows if any of that is even remotely legit, but yeah, I mean so, I mean, based on what I know of State of Decay, they had always had a much
larger, more elaborate game in mind. That was what that studio was founded on. Like they literally said, Zombie MMO was what they were going to make, right right, and that first game was like kind of a test bed. Yeah, it was like the it was it was the Kingdoms of Amelure of their of their universe. Okay, all right, but then that's a lot of that stuff with They put it on Xbox one, right, and it fixed a lot of the early stuff that still, but it's not
as ship. It was like it ran like garbage on three sixty but and it came out on PC two. But it was huge like that thing. Yeah, I think gost good at a point. Yeah, they added a lot and fixed a lot, but but it was still just a kind of a single player open world game. Right. Still, it was there testing the waters and getting some money in the coffers so they could make their bigger thing. I think. So whether or not this is happening at E three
or at Microsoft, like it is probably happening. Yeah, that feels right. Okay, this morning, Uh, what seems like the entirety of Bethesda Ze three lineup has leaked, Okay, or at least what will be at the press conference there? Quake. No, it would be far too soon. Yeah, yeah, it's way too soon. Unless Machine Games it's gonna make their narrative focused quake, which that was just something well no, because Wolfenstein two was on this list. Oh oh so yeah Spear of Destiny you
mean yeah, the expansion, Yeah, come soon. Now they're gonna pivot. They're gonna move on to Blake Blakestone. All right, so good end the list here. What is this? I would love a new blake Stone, but only if it was just gri It was like that grim super ed tone. Yeah time, Yeah, so yeah's purported the three lineup is a
new Wolfenstein the Evil within two. All right, it sounds like a quote completely reworked prey To, which that had been rumored forever A little while here, I think that the rumor has been that Arcane Austin may be working on that. Well, so yeah, it was that. The known quantity was that human Head was no longer working on that. Yeah, that's been years gone, and so they had supposedly put it to another studio. Arcane is
the rumored thing, but nothing's ever been confirmed about that. How great would it be if this this actually came to pass? But but prey To ended up being this super faithful sequel to Pray, like everything you liked about that prey To demo, Like, oh no, no, no, we thought that was just getting away from the core of what Prey is about. Was the ginty boring first person shooting. Was the demo, the one where you play as an FBI agent that was on the plane that crashes at the beginning
of actual Prey. Yes, okay, yes, and that I had a working demo that went. Yeah. I saw it being played multiple times in front of me. Ok. Yeah, they brought it here. We're not here here, but they brought it to us. Yeah, we saw it. I saw it. I saw it in Utah, I saw Dy three saw it here. That game looks so fucking cool. I like to pray it was years ago. I wonder at this point if a lot of other games have done enough of those things at this point that it wouldn't be that
impressive. I also wonder, if you know you're that far removed from it, do you even need to call that thing? Pray to right it? Well, they said Tommy was going to be in it, so oh, oh Commy. Yeah, you know, the rememberable character. Can't make a Prey without Tommy, the iconic hero of Prey. Tommy. Pray everyone is playing Tommy. I didn't hate Prey, No, I thought it was pretty good. I also did not hate Pray sixty. It was all right, you could play Ted NuGen on that juke, but I got all I got
all the achievements and Pray Yeah, even the multiplayer once. Yeah, I have the one that had the achievement for team killing. Yeah it was that trok it well no, no, I think then think that might have been Turrock. But they had kills for like like achievements for getting kills with every weapon. And I had two copies of the game before it came out, So I hooked up two three sixties and connected to myself when no one else was playing, and got all those achievements and that felt good stuff, that
felt like a great use of time. That didn't feel at all like I don't look back on that now with any sort of regret. Obviously not. I played through that on the PC. That was before the sickness took me. For achievements, it was a really good looking game at the time.
Yeah, but who knows what it'll be at this point or even story completely reworked, yeah, or yeah, like like so far this list you're reading me is like the most obvious, Like, here's a sequel to every game they had last time, because these studios still exist, because Tango Game Works still exists, so obviously they must be doing The Evil within two, even though that seems like a terrible fucking idea. I think that game sold okay,
though, yeah, I think. I mean, if you market it on the basics, well maybe you know, they were were able to say like, hey, it's the guy that made Resident Evil. Yeah, and you know, but like, did anyone actually like that game? Terrible? It just no, it didn't grab it. I didn't utterly hate it, but it was not amazing. It was like I would be more excited with Wet two than I would be with The Evil. Yeah, I don't know. I would certainly be more excited by a Rogue Warrior two. Yes,
yes, motherfucker. Yeah. Yeah. What's Dick marsinco up too? And then obviously it's not missing about his record. You know, Dishonored two has been talked about that. Yeah, that that feels like a known quantic that's guaranteed to be there. But you know, they remember they founded a second Arcane right in Austin, and like you would assume like maybe original Arcanes doing Dishonored and New Arcanes doing Prey maybe if if that's how that split works,
yeah, I haven't makes sense. And then they got it probably got to fall Out and Doom stuff on there. There's no mention of that stuff here, and I'm sure there will be updates on Like you know, mods just launched on Xbox for Fallout right, supposed to becoming a PS four soon. I'm sure there'll be some talk around that. They've They also said, like they when they raise the price of the Fallout Season past to fifty bucks, they said, hey, we're gonna make more deal season we planned. So
they'll probably be more of that stuff. But maybe the weirdest part of this league sky Rim remastered. There's talk of at that. I mean, it makes it makes sense because that engine runs so well on current consoles. Wouldn't you why wouldn't you take advantage of that extra power? Well it's you know, that was a game made for three sixty. Yeah, so maybe that poorts over to the con new consoles and runs well. I mean yeah, that version will run one. You just emulate it. Go. I'm trying
to muster a response to that, and I don't really have one. I think the only way this makes sense is because they want to bring their mods stuff over to console versions of Skyri. Part of this leakue is that this new console remaster would have modupport that would that makes sense. The engine tech is similar enough. I guess that that work probably isn't them starting from zero? Yeah yeah uh, but like, how does this make sense on the
PC? You know, unless they're dramatically increasing test resolution or something like that. But like, you know, you want to remaster sky Him on the PC? Just fucking download it and run it today? Yeah it runs pretty well? Yeah yeah, and it's been very cheap. Yeah on Steam numerous times and whatever. That game is super fucking popular, like crazy, crazy,
over the top. Way, I get why they would think, like, hey, why don't we Let's just I mean, look, if I can get this on more platforms, if I can get Macho Man Dragons, oh yeah on the Xbox oh yeah literally? Oh yeah, still the best sky Oh yeah, is what I say to that. But that seems like the sort of thing that would not come to console, because don't they have.
I haven't looked at the mod stuff for Fallout, but I presume that there would be someone checking a box somewhere that says this has copyrighted content and it do not allow. Probably someone on the moderation and going like, nope, this as porn or macho man, you cannot allow it. If you don't allow macho man, Dragon Mochu, man's very existence is pornographic. If you think about it's very erotic. That man is sex. He's gonna punk your butt out of the world to see. How do you feel about that?
Pretty good? All right, good? Yeah, like you said, pretty predictable sounding lineup, but also several things I would like to see. Yeah. The only one of those that gives me pause actually is Evil within two like that, It's the one thing on that list makes me think this might not be real. I don't know. Maybe they went back and made it better. I mean, you know, but doesn't bought that studio, so they so they have to be doing something. Yeah, you have to
wonder it does battle Cry still exists? Battle Cry Studios is still listed on the xmax page as existing. You know, they still have a team and all that. I played that game two years ago now, And if you thought that back then, the idea of a free to play multiplayer kind of shootery thing seemed maybe a little crowd and like trying to enter a crowded space. Yeah, like imagine that world now Consoles, PC wherever Watch, where
all this other stuff exists. Like it's just like what what they were just at some point there was a point where that was in the mix of conversation when we were talking about all those games, and then get like like a light switch, it just exited, like I just everyone forgot about it at the same time and everyone just stopped talking. The studio is literally called battle christ To Yeah, like the well so they were studio is named after the
game where vice versa or something. It's like, what why? Okay, that's always usually a good indicator of longevity. Yeah, I'm all whatever, I just wonder if that thing will ever see the light of day. Yeah, I want to look at see if there are any like recent updates from members of that team. Uh, we're here. Please send some say like hey, we're still still plugging away. We can't wait to show you what we're like, just any kind of signs. It's proof of life. Yeah,
what studio made Brink Splash Dance Slash. Are they around? Yeah? They worked on Doom. Dirty Bomb is them? Yeah? They made Dirty Bomb and then they contribute. I think I saw people saying they contributed to do certain affinity contribute. I know, I know they did, but there were other studios that worked on I might be wrong about that, but I did see some people battle Cry Studios in Texas. Uh it was rage just a ID proper, Yeah, m hmm. Nothing. I mean, there
is a website here. There's you know, there's a careers page. They're looking for a back end services engineer, gameplay engineer, production director, senior server engineer, senior graphics engineer, general application gameplay engineer, among others. But mhm, yeah, I don't know. There's there's there's no like updates section of this site to say like clothes bay to this or you know. Yeah, I'm not I'm not seeing anything that looks recent. The last tweet
on the Battlecry official Twitter account was from July twenty fifteen. It's a battle Cry nderscored devs. No, it's Battlecry Underscore game. Okay. There's also a battle Cry Underscore Devs which claims to be an official Twitter account for battle Cry Studios, and the banner on this July July twenty fifteen is also the most recent the banner on this account literally says BETAF twenty fifteen sign up today. I'm gonna put money on them not showing that game at the press conference.
That would that would maybe be the right move, okay, but otherwise that line up soun's all right. Yeah, but if it's real, I'm I'm down to see all that stuff. And then they probably have some Doom DLC to talk about, because they did sell a season pass. Yeah, but I think that's multiplayer stuff. Oh god. I hope that you would love to see them pivot and do something different. But also I don't know if I want single player DLC out of Doom. I just want another Doom.
Maybe you're Doom too, Maybe you're right, you know, but I well, it's not broken up into episodes the way that old Doom was. But I love the idea of like one more episode coming up from Doom, you know, like just close the loop on this being a reboot of the original and put out an expansion pack. I just wanted to remake of Doom three that is Doom current but with some Doom three stuff in what if it's like Doom three is starting to happen, but then like regular Doom just mashes
through it. That's a bunch. Like they want to have all these key cards and machines and just like fucking terminals, But then you just punch them all. That's a much better outcome. The last update on the Battle Cry the game website is June twenty fifteen. It is their E three recap. Yeah, they showed it briefly last year. Yeah, but I'm not expecting to repeat there. All right? Uh Injustice two, Yes, thanks to game Stop apparently. Uh well, okay, let's be honest, Stop,
We'll be offering a free poster with pre orders of Injustice two. Let's also thank ed boone here, who has basically been trolling the internet in the last two weeks. Well, very obvious way he changed. He changed his Twitter pick to Aminumeral two. He's been linking to two that could also look like an eleven, So that is pretty good at Yeah, and even in this morning after this game style leak happened, he there's some good stuff on its Twitter feed. Then also all but confirms that yes, yes he is.
He is taking it in stride in a nice jovial way. Injustice too makes the most sense. Yeah, Yeah, that's that's the cycle they're on, right, I mean Able Kombat one year or Mortal Kombat than Injustice, the Mortal Combat than Injustice I guess right. That is as much as I was holding out hope for ww E Immortals becoming a full fledged console fighting game. If it's still updating them, it's such a good idea. I don't think
so. I think Immortal is kind of trailed off at a point, but Supercard that's where the money's at. Yeah, and that was always a weird thing because WB did not hold the WWB license like the whole thing was, or at least not not the way that two K does. That's always a strange project. I don't know. But the most exciting thing that a video
game is done with WWB wrestlers since w w E All Stars agreed. Yeah, yeah, really no details to go along with this other than hey, it exists, as the poster has the Flash and I believe Superman on it, Fatman. I don't know. I think it's Batman. Okay, I could be wrong, but yeah, no, I was psyched that it had the Flash on it because that was the character I liked using in the first
Injustice. I think that's like, if you're going to make a game with DC characters, like, that's one of the five you will always use. His super was the one where he ran around the world and punching the face, right, Yeah, that's pretty good. And it makes sense to not have Batman and Superman because that movie didn't exactly go super well, So leading with that type of imagery and tying to that probably is not super smart.
I would guess they're going to try and avoid the DC Cinematic Universe stuff infecting this too much. Yeah, the first one was just like straight up comic books, like alternate universe story and yeah, yeah it was me. I think that comic is still going with the Injustice comment, I want to say, is still running or or or ran a lot longer than you might have thought. You know, this is if you'd ask me, hey, what do you want another realm to make next? Probably wouldn't have said this,
but you know, people like that first one. I also don't necessarily it was well made, as it doesn't I don't necessarily want a new Mortal Kombat sequel, So yeah, I don't know that I would have wanted that either. I don't Actually, I don't know what. I would have wanted it like MK X a lot, but I think it's time. It makes sense
for them to take up there. There will be a time when I want Mortal Kombat eleven, but that time is twenty nineteen, when Mortal Kombat eleven will be released in about April. Yeah, uh, set your watch to it, so so look forward to that. Uh yeah, but it would be too soon to do a straight up MK fighting game right now. I would have loved to have seen even though they didn't necessarily make the game like another Shallon Monk style game. Yes, would have been would have been cool
to see. Yeah, that seems like if they're gonna do that, it seems like something they would form out. Maybe maybe rock Steady. Yeah, like oversight a rock Steady make a Mortal Kombat action game, and you think about it, how much they fleshed out, like the fiction of that universe in the last two games. Like that stuff I think would play well. Okaybat Technologies check it out. Sub Zero is a ninja. We're willing to follow him to his temple. Love this and see how a ninja lives Okay,
practices one day? Can I draw walls around him and didn't have him not have any bathrooms? Can you open a restaurant? Yep, Ninja Burger? Uh all right, so there's that Injustice too. Yeah, we'll come out. That's a video game. What about the Grid? It'll be three but I'm sorry, Yeah, that was Yes, the idea of the Grid
too was pretty funny when he changed that picture. Uh, Watchdogs too, Yeah, as of roughly this time tomorrow or mid day tomorrow, arguably the worst kept secret ongoing form like a long time, and like didn't they send promotional items the YouTubers or something recently Tube influencers were receiving Watchdogs. I'm just saying, like the notions last week. Yeah, the notion of Watchdogs two has been more or less known since even before Watchdogs when actually came out.
So it was like, you know, they made all that noise about like that's the highest pre ordered new ip in history. Yeah, of course they we're gonna make another Watchdogs even the first. And this is filling the Assassin's Creed gap, which I that's actually I do like that idea of like we've got this other thing that can that's a great idea too, and we need to have Assassin's Creed take a break. Do you think they need to have
hopefully that game is good this time. Do you think this becomes an ongoing like leap Frog cycle it or how well watch and also how the next Assassin's Creed does In the wake of all that, they said, Watchdogs Too is going to be this year. I mean you could assume it is. That
seems to be the implication. I think the date has leaked. I think it's November November, but especially without an Assassin's Creed this year, and with the VINDI closing in like they need they need, they need to shore up they yeah, they need money coming in to keep they need a poison pill defense. And I don't know, how do you stop violent takeovers hostile takeover?
I don't I don't know if you do poison pill poison pill. Uh yeah, So yeah, they they straight up said, hey, we're gonna do a stream with some stuff about Watchdogs Too, So watch that tomorrow and it's supposedly San Francisco and all the new protagonist stuff that leaked out a while ago is apparently spot on. Yeah. Supposedly a new protagonist named Marcus because
people fucking hated the guy from the first game, he was bad. But will the new character where the iconic watch Dogs hat he might have his own iconic Watchdogs according according to the motion capture actor, yes all right and the screenshot of this character that he instagramed like a month ago. Will there be a new protagonist cause player in the audience of the UBISAW conference? Boy? Oh yeah? Or have they just instructed i Issia Tyler not to talk to
people in the audience this year? M mister Kevin, it's back? No please? No girl? Girl? Would yeah? Yeah, yeah. I did not especially like Watchdogs. Yeah, it had there, but there are good ideas at the core of it. It had a glimmer of hope. Yet yeah yeah, So making another one, I I would like to see them get it right. You know, well maybe this is the maybe this is the Assassin Street two of this franchise. You know, it's like, hey, we made a game and it had cool ideas, but it didn't
really get there. But hey, we'd fix it and now it's awesome. That'd be great to see like all these really stuff for Watchdogs. Like the first time I sat down and the first time I held a Dual Shock four was to play Watchdogs on a PC. Yeah, and it seemed like potentially really cool back then, and then when it came out and it was like, oh, all these side tasks are really drab and like the story is just pretty rough. Yeah, you know, just at some point it just
all it all fell apart. Yep. Uh, let's see. It's not really an announcement or a leak, but Horizon zero Down has been pushed to next year February to be exact, did it? I never had a confirmed date though, like it had a year target, I think, but I don't think it actually had like a it's coming out on this date. No. Actually, now that I look at this, the managing director of Guerrilla Games straight up posted a blog saying like it wasn't an easy choice to make
and so this is actually a delay. Ok. They robot dinosaur game, right? Yes, yes, yes, I saw it was a super early demo that thing last year. But it looks super least evocative title of what that game actually, Yeah, that's not a great I mean robot descriptive like robot dinosaur att Yeah like that, maybe that's not the title you go with either. But oh it's weird though, because it's not just dinosaurs. It's like robot elk. Yeah, Like there's just all the animals in that game
or robots and it's matrix. Aren't you. I don't know, but you were a robot the whole time of the Weird Tech demo kind of showing the thing had last year. I was fascinated by here's here's my here's my theory. Well, at the end of that game, find out you're actually just an animatronic in a giant theme park. That's why all the robots and the and the monsters are robots. Like that's yeah, this last world and then
you find out you're a robot too. Okay, their homies came around and turned you into an animatron, and then they zoom back and you're all in a snow globe. All right, welcome to Hell, Motherfucker's and Clarence Williams the third last Uh you close the portal to Hell. Uh Destiny DL see anybody? I mean, I think it's been floating around for a bit. Yeah, they're gonna announce that on Thursday. Okay, this Week of Iron. Okay, I kept calling her Hearts of Iron earlier for some reason.
It's a different game though, just came out of that would be really weird. Now that Rise of Iron. Okay, yeah, I had no idea what that would you think about the term iron and in regards to Destiny, like the was it the Iron? Yeah? The least favorite thing they've well no known that's the racing is actually worse? Yes, whatever, Man, The Racing was one of Dan Teasdale's top ten games of that year. That's right. Well, you know they Lord Saladin is his name, Master of
the Master of the Salad iron banner. If you know, if they find a way to work like that character in some story based stuff, then I'd be okay with it. Sure it can't. Surely it cannot just be an expansion of multiplayer content. Boy, what if it was wow? Wow, Wow, that'd be a bummer. That is not what I want. But we'll find out on Thursday at ten am Pacific because they were going to stream
what that is. Okay, so be there or just find out about it later, he knows, or just be a you know, be interested in the Destiny that will come out next year. That will probably be the real thing you want. Yes, right, yeah, I mean the reports are that this thing is a stop gap that got created because Destined two slipped out of this year. I feel like everything they've done since this eight months before Destiny shipped, has been a stop gap to do before they can get real
Destiny. Sure, that's not to say that all of it is low in quality or anything like that, but man, this game seems like it has been people running away from a fire for two years. Yep, one year, two years September right, yes, yes, two years September. God, it feels like way longer than that. We've been living with Destiny for a long time. My life with Destiny has been long in our well, we're in luck. We're at the end of the ten years of Destiny.
How to to Treat You, how to Go? We're done with that. Now we're moving on. Everyone's just playing the Division. Now that's not even the true anymore. No, it's not. They put out another Encouragion version was second or the third? There a second one? Okay, Yeah, I have abandoned that game wholesale. I want to keep getting back to it, but every change they make just seems like they're focusing more on the stuff that I don't necessarily want to do. I would like more real content and
maybe the maybe the proper paid DLC will be more interesting. But yeah, okay, I've got a lot of Overwatch I'm not playing. Also, you know, like if I'm gonna not play a game now totally. Remember when Nintendo said that they were only bringing Zelda the three. You promised me you were going to play Zelda Dead Last Wait what I lied? Oh? We lied, I guess live They just yeah, they've They put out a statement saying that they are going to expand their E three streaming plans a little bit.
Yes, it sounds like I think this is just the Treehouse stream. I don't think. I don't think this affects with the content of their booth, which as far as I know is still just a bunch of Zelda kidus. But they have other games on the docket not shipped. It makes sense to show them in some capacity. Metroid Prime, Federation whatever, Federation Force, Full Day, it's full day of streaming, though this actually not on
that list. This list does not even mention that game. Yeah, yeah, so this will be the Treehouse stream that starts at ten am on Tuesday of the show, which, so I guess the Zelda stuff is at nine right, their traditional like direct slot My understanding is at yeah, there's going to be an hour of Zelda, and then this Treehouse stream will kick in, uh and now will include quote upcoming releases for the EU and three DS,
including Monster Hunter Generations, Dragon Quest, seven, Fragments of the Forgotten Past, neither of which are Nintendo games, and Tokyo Mirage sessions. How do I read this hashtag? Fe that's that's the Shinmagami tense A slash Fire, Yes right, yes, mash up coming from both into No and Atlas. Is that persona shin mcgamy tens Well, Persona is a descendant of that
French Yes, okay, so that came first make it's s SMT. Yeah, it has been around for like fucking first Devil Devil Summitter and all that stuff waynetes like PC ninety eight games, way way before Persona existed. How that mashes up with fire embol and I don't know, but I don't care about those games I heard of. That game is basically just like a Giant and J Pop simulator. Okay, it's all J Pop is heavily influenced somewhere
in that game. Oh wait, This Austin story absolutely says that yeah, as a JRPG set in modern times and with a real focus on youth culture, creativity and J pop. All right, I'm back, yeah, now I care. Uh, let me throw a little of that K pop in there too, And now we're talking yeah, and you know the fire Alim gives them some fucking yeah, you know, kind of ask some offspring to make some more J pop? Can I kind of touch the faces? I
hope? So not not not yet confirmed. No mention of those phone games right the end of the Animal the Animal Crossing and fire Elm the next two phone releases, which I'm super curious about, Like, I wonder how far along those are part of the Sun and Moon that is there? That was on there now I think you're yes, you're right, You're right. Pokemon
was on the Pokemon Son the Moon will be part of the string. I was gonna say, like the notion that they would have that game in the works and not use any of this time to like remind people of like that that's the only game of that list that like feels like it could have been on the show floor next to Sure Zelda. Sure, I understand why they didn't, because you know, whatever you got Zeldas. Yeah, I mean I remain intensely interested in seeing Zelda, Like, yeah, I think that's
enough. Yeah, because it's been under wraps for so long and push back and blah blah blah. But part of me fucking hates myself for saying this, But I feel like those phone games are be the most interesting thing they have going. Like if it's like just a real game, yeah, that's what it is, Like me Tomo was just a big whatever. You know, it's an unknown quantity at this point. What those Nintendo games on mobile are gonna look? Like? What if that's a real Animal Crossing or something
close to it? That'd be great? Such a good idea because Happy Home Designer, Sure shit wasn't There was a mebo festival, the idea that of like you could just have people visit each other's towns while you were walking near them, right, like yeah, pass type stuff, Like what if you could play Animal Crossing on the thing that's always in your pocket? Yeah, with the day night cycle and all that. Yeah, it seems like it
seems like a layup. I mean, did they They said it's free to play, though, right, I think one would assume, Yeah, so you're buying and making phone games. So you know, so you're giving actual money to Tom Tom knuck Now, I mean that does feel like the next I'm out, I'm out, he's shaking you down for years for fake bells. Now, it's real, the eight hundred the eight hundred bells package is
the best value. Yeah, hey, while you're asleep by a upgraded their house and now in ned ten real dollars, I'm already took it out of your iTunes. Sorry, don't know. This is this is like Tom zok use the fucking rabbit. Will the rabbit turn out to work for Tom Nook and you'll show up and be like, hey, buddy, like from all the back, stuffy man. What about that the rest stick you gotta help me out? You mean rusty? Yeah, then the Brest baseball dog.
I mean, they have yet to make that connection as to whether he exists in the Animal Crossing universe, but that said, he feels like he would totally fit it. I feel like those guys are just fucking agents of Tom Nook that are just like working different shakedown techniques in different towns. That there's a whole pyramid scheme and all of it fucking rolls up to nook. What
about Timmy and Tommy are they like in training to do that there? I mean, you know, they're part of the They're part of the empire. Okay, Yeah, they're the errors. They're the Shane and Stephanie of the tomb. Okay, yeah, if that helps you, Yeah it does. Okay. I hope that stuff's there. Yeah, I mean too. I data will be, but at least there will be some other stuff on that
stream besides twelve hours of Zelda or whatever it was going to be. I think that might be it for E three related news that I'm looking now to see if anything has broken the time, like keeping my eye on Twitter just in case anything else leaks, as we've been in here. But that seems like that's it. We mentioned this Vivendi hostile to takeover of Ubisoft stuff.
I don't know how well equipped from a business perspective we are to speak to this stuff, not necessarily, but the Vivendi has fully completed a hostile takeover of game Aloft. Yeah, also run by a brother of Yes, Yes, the brother of eve Gmo runs game Aloft or did it was founded by both of them? I believe, Yeah, And that's so he's out.
Is that the case? Yeah, the brother has stepped down. Okay, Uh, I mean this is just effectively just a company coming in and buying up all the shares, right, yes, well at least it's enough to have a majority ownership. Yeah yeah, we kind of kind of have control of the board or whatever. Yes, Okay, it sounds like they want you be soft. Yeah, and they've been wanting movies off for a while.
Would be the logical next move. I remember Vivendi was a publisher, right, yeah, dude, not even that, Like I remember, like since we've been doing these game tapes and stuff, you go back and see like Universal games on stuff yep. Right, and then it became the Vendi Universal, Like there's a there was a huge legacy of game made, a lot of stuff put out by that company. Uh, and then they totally got out of Game of Sierra. They were right right? What happened to
that nest? Half life? The New Sierra just exists as an AI is an pumplishing label of activisions. What kind they put out with that name? That King Geometry Wars and Kings Quest which continues to come out. Okay, I've been meaning to play episode three of kings Quest that came out a couple of weeks ago. I'm gonna say it right here. I bought a finally bought an external drive for my Xbox. I finally started getting a bunch of
that backwork battle stuff. Geometry Wars tell the best Xbox You're sixty game? Yes, yes, I will the best. I will go with you on that journey the best. I think you're right. I spent hours right before I flew out here just playing Wars. Are you saying it's a game of the generation? Yes, it is. It is the game of that I could, I could, maybe almost actually get behind the XBLA game. No, no, no, are you read Dead versus Yeah? Yeah, Geometry
Wars wins. It is the purest game of that generation. I'll give you that. It is perfect. Head and shoulders above Red Dead. Come on, tell me crazy like Jeff. The path you are walking the Red Dead is bad path. I can't walk down that with you. I'm sorry, we are on one path or not. I can't do it. But that
said, my allegiance, I wanted only knock against Geometry Wars. And this really only became a problem like years after the fact, when I kept coming back to it is just how long it takes for the game to get going. Oh, like the real game, every time you will just every dangerous every time you do it run. Yeah, it's like a good what ninety seconds or two minutes? I need I need more things get interesting. But
if you're playing for an hour straight, you are warm. No. But that's the thing is that if once you've dealed into the chaos of the later game, I need that little bit of cool down before I jump back in, right, I could, I could see that. I just kind of want to go play. We should, Yeah, I don't. I don't really know what else to say about this. This game offt stuff other than that seems pretty ominous for the future of Ubisoft. It is. It's weird.
I mean, you're seeing them kind of signaling like, hey, we don't want this to happen, like we are not happy this is taking place, and trying to find ways to get around this. Obviously Gameloft was not able to do that. But you know, I mean I look at here. The thing is, we don't know really what the Vendi's aims are. Yeah, like we don't know what it is they want out of owning Ubisoft, we don't know like what they want to change, if anything, or
if they just want to make some money off this damn thing. Presumably. I mean, they're just a gigantic conglomerate with their fingers and like every pie imaginable, right. Yeah, so and then you know, being a French
company going after Ubisoft kind of makes a certain amount of sense. But you know, until we know more about what their aims are and like what would actually functionally change in that leadership and that you know that company's direction, Like, it's hard to know other than to say, well, this seems bad. Yeah, that sounds all right. Yeah, it's hard to know. I'll buy that argument. Yeah, I ain't no business guy, but that sounds plausible. Yeah, it's I'm not sitting here thinking that, like Ubisoft
is being run so perfectly that nothing could improve or change. So it's like it's hard, it's hard to even know if that's necessarily good or a bad. Maybe they just really want to play beyond Good and Evil two. Yeah, and they're just pissed that it's taken. That's probably exactly it. Yeah, Uh, did you guys see this good old games and Steam business now It's crazy. What's happening. I'm trying to I'm scanning this story because I feel like they had a name for it. I want to I could have
sworn they were calling it like Steam Connect or something like that. I don't see that phrase in here. Good old Steam Gog now lets you one time per account, link a Steam account to your Dog account and then currently the list is a little slim, but you get games on this eligible list that you own on Steam in your Gog library, like DRM free versions of them. So ye did this with Origin? Did they? Yeah? Really it
was not. You did not connect up your Steam account, but you a CD keys right that you could redeem those keys again on your Origin account, right and they would transfer over right. So this is kind of similar, except that it's just a one time like you. They're they're using Steam API. You just punch in your log in, uh, and you get games such as Yes, The Witness, FTL, Saints Row two, Shadow Run
Returns, The Witcher Enhanced Edition, Braid. Just kind of scanning the list here, two different Breech and Clear games, Broken Sword, Mountain Blade, Sherlock Holmes. But I wonder if this is something that as they do the deals with different publishers. If that list will grow a time and then you would come in because you use the you said one time deal, but I imagine it's you only link one Steam account if six months later they add another
game to the list and you have to own it on Steam. Yeah, what I meant is you can't remove that Steam account link a different when you get you get one shot to link a Steam count to a gag account. So don't miss uh zeno naots you come to Gog, you best not missing. That's true. Unreal Gold and Unreal Tournament Game of the Year both on this list. Sure vvvvv that's the game. Yeah six six Uh yeah, it's it's not not a lot of games yet, but it seems like a
nice kind of feel good move, right. It's a foundation, Yeah, because because gog is a pretty solid service from from what I've seen of it. Yeah, from what I've used. Installed the Gog Galaxy, did you, and then realized I didn't own any game. I don't have a Galaxy God, I don't own any games and Gogs. I was just like, all right, I've got a handful. Yeah, I have a very small number. I've got x Wing and tie Fighter and half a dozen others. It's a good way to get old games, good old games. Yes,
that might No, that's not it for news. Good god, damn it. I was ready to get out of here. What what do you got? Good god? Old games? We still have emails to go through. Man. Oh right, look at too jumpy? Sorry? All right, one more thing. Uh. There is a big new Xbox One dashboard update coming out right, yeah, like today for preview members. Is it going to make that dashboard good? Finally, it depends on what's wrong with it? So so yes, they have a new screen shout out showing the new
My Games and Apps look better. Yes, I went to see this thing, so I saw it in action. I saw it, so yes they Yes, they are somewhat reorganizing the My Games and Apps interface. It scrolls vertically now, okay, instead of side to side, smaller tiles. Yes, the tiles are shrunk so it fits something like twelve games at a time on the screen. Now. It's like, okay, I think it's like
kind of four across, three down okay. Uh. And like I said, scrolls scrolls horizontally and it's broken up by letter so you can jump straight to a letter away to skip to the like here you're uninstalled, yes game, Yes, they've also yeah, they've cleaned up that stuff for accessing games you don't have currently installed. And there there's some other little usability stuff that I can't quite remember around like I think you can sort by recently downloaded and
recently patched stuff like that backwards compatible stuff. So I have two issues, one of which is entirely my own thing and not something that I expect them to deal with because it's I'm uniquely terrible in that regard, and the other is just that straight up, it does not run well. Just the dashboard. It's not snappy at all, Like it's always behind me. It always feels like it's loading too many things at once in the background, never quite
works right. It's one. It's like a fucking old Roku. Yeah. And that's like the three sixty interface is such an easy thing to get around comparatively, it's amazing to me that they have. There are parts, I mean, I still have a three sixty hooked up. Yeah, let me tell you sucks. Sometimes parts of the three sixty interfaces. If it is enumerating all the games on your account, you're sitting there for all, but especially compared to like the PS four interface, which is snappy as hell.
I think one of my favorite always best organized. One of my favorite things about the three sixty backwards compatability is bringing up the old blade and watching how fast it is on this system. Yeah, like the friends list in the achievements. Yeah, all of that stuff just loads in instantly. Yeah,
that's great, so nice. The other thing that is my unique problem is that I own a lot of rock Band downloadable content, and let me tell you that design is not meant to deal with that many pieces of DLC. Let's let's let's call it over a thousand. Now you go and I want to manage my rock band, It zooms you all the way over to the wrong side. So I have to scroll all the way back over if I want to get to the manage all section, and that takes a little time.
That sounds crappy. Yeah, and again that is unique, unique problem. Very few people will have that said it sucks. Do you do they ever fix the thing with rock Band? Like, can you now just go to the Xbox interface and have it list all your old DLC that you own? Because you couldn't do that at launch. Well, so here's the fun
part of that is that sometimes takes a while to load in. But yes, anytime they add stuff that is just on your account that you can download, you go to manage your game, and in that section where it says ready to download that stuff appears, that stuff appears. But that's that's why it's so shitty for you to scroll through, because you have to scroll through a zillion fucking sprint. Yeah. Yeah, that was a broken mess at
launch of like because it didn't even do that. So I had to go through that list not knowing because I didn't know which deal see I owned, and hit hit go on every single one to see which ones came up and said a dollar ninety nine and which one said you own this yep, and even that sometimes wasn't correct. Yeah, so I that is how they've been surfacing all the old like track pack and uh you know, like the like you the Rock Band two and three soundtracks and all that kind of stuff.
Like that's where that stuff has been surfacing. I should go check that. Well, no, no, I'll be okay. I was gonna say I should go check that and see if they've added some more stuff that I own, was like, no, if you're not an obsessive like me, I have boxed up all of the rock Band four gear. I think I'm okay. Well, maybe when that that ion Kit adapter launches in the fall,
maybe that'll be what brings you back. I always wanted to get an eye On drum kit, but never did, and they became too hard to find at one point for a cheap looking electronic drum set. That thing has held up. I just most just thought, like, man, I would really like to own a good set of electronic drums. Yeah, and if it worked with rock Band, that would be even better because I could use that to train to become an okay, like a decent drummer, which I'm not.
They put it out of an adapter at one point that allowed you to use a few other different kinds of electronic kits to to sort of like turn that drum brain into something that three sixty would recognize. But I don't think any of that ship's going to carry over in this. It's just high on or nothing, which makes sense. Yeah, yeah, but I there were years there where I really really wanted an eye on kit, and then they became incredibly hard to find yeah, and then it was just like nowadays they're
just run. It's just like, okay, it's too late for me. I will never own a good eye on drum kit. Move on, all right with your life. And also I don't need one. Also, that's the thing that has also changed is now I'm like, oh, I'm over this. Yeah fair uh so, Yeah, I saw a demo of this thing a couple of weeks ago, and the new games and apps stuff seems better. The big thing they're pushing here is the Cortana is now in this update. Oh good, it's the It's basically the Cortana engine from Windows Hin
has come over with connect yeah and replaces yeah. So it replaces the where you would just say Xbox whatever do I have to say Quartana? Now you have to say hey Quartana? Yeah? I want to pause a DVD or something? Yes, okay, hey Quartana. So the bit yeah, it's it. Yes, it seems like just unnecessary extra syllables. But I would have Xbox pause would still work. I hope. I'm not sure. Actually I don't know if that's still Maybe Xbox was too short of a phrase.
They were getting to me false possitive. They straight quartan as opposed to they straight up mentioned so do I have to say quartana to get her to bing things for me? Like? Yes, so quartana bang here here are already big advantages of this thing being advantages? Yes, the being advantages of this
thing as I saw it demoed are that so? And I guess this is you know when it's ten has had this since launched, but it's got it's got more natural language processing in it, so you can phrase things a bunch of different ways and it will figure out what you're talking about, okay, as opposed to like like right now, it's like watch whatever, like it has to be watch channel name, or like go to app you know, like it's very specific code words now, versus like you could say just like
hey, Cortona, I want to play Killer Instinct or go to Killer Instinct or whatever you say, Like it's supposed to figure out what you want to do. Doesn't all this require a piece of technology that they have de emphasized to the point of practical non existence. And it sounds like they will allow you to use the headset voice okay, if you have a headset plugged in
and you're playing multiplayer games, but if you have a headset. Oh okay, I guess if you're in the middle of playing maybe, But if you have a headset on, that means you're holding a controller, which means you're holding a pretty fast way to get around the Xbox steps as you would like. Well whatever, it's like a built in microphone on the new system they're talking about, like, not the connect step, not all the inflatah yeah,
yeah, that could be that. The Yeah, somebody somebody emailed in this week specifically saying, hey, do you think this new rumored controller at that they're going to unvaildy three might have a microphone built into its use because they need to the Katana stuff to work and no one has connect anymore, or they can't assume anyone has a connect anymore than they need alternatives. So I guess, but I still got my connect plugged in. Yeah, me
too, I like I do not. I haven't used this thing personally. I am in no way endorsing its functionality or saying it's going to work amazingly or whatever. But like, Cortana is basically Microsoft's answer to Siri, right right, I think conceptually you can look at this as like, hopefully this will kind of do what Siri does except in an Xbox environment. And I so, I, you know, I've been running Windows ten for a very long time, and I tried to use Cortana on multiple occasions and just found
it to be terrible. I mean, that's like I said, that's entirely possible that I turned it off in when I was ten. Yeah, I tried. I tried for a good solid week of just like okay, well, and and into some other problems of like well, I don't keep my work email on this machine, so it doesn't have access to my calendars or any of the actual email i'd want. So I was like, okay, well, let's go through the process of setting that up, and that never
worked quite right. Uh And and just I never said the integration stuff wasn't great on top of that, so like getting the voice stuff to work for things that were not integrated as well as they probably needed to be was like double fucked. But the whole thing was just pointless. It was just like, hey, Cortana, what's the weather? Like I don't fucking care. Like I also, I've got Alexa for that, uh, which I don't use that much too many disembodied computer ladies running our lives at this point,
it's terrifying. Yeah, I don't know the two Okay, they're they're not. I don't want to sound like I'm just giving their product demo here, but there were two cases in the demo they showed that actually seemed kind of useful. One was like, you know, have the right now, like every game, if you just say, hey, play whatever, like you
have to say this very long, full fucking name of the game. Uh. They they basically said, hey, I want to play Killer Instinct, and they had three different killer instincts installed on that system, and it pops up a list of every killer instinct and then you can just kind of say, you know, it was like Killer in Saint Classic, it was blabat and then they just said season three and it launched the right Killer instinct.
So that stuff seemed a lot more flexible. And the other thing was that it I'm not sure what it's keying into here, but it seems aware of the names of the people on your friends list, so you can just say, hey, start a party with Joe and George or whatever, and it will just immediately like start a party and invite those people to it all off of that one for sentence. So that's that stuff seemed useful. Yeah, I mean, like the like I think connected home stuff is and voice control
all that. I think all that stuff is really rad. Yeah, and you know with that thing having Skype integrated and all the other stuff, like there's something interesting about walking around and be like hey Skype somebody. Yeah. And for a while I was turning my Xbox on and off with voice but at some point I was like, you know, I just I don't need any of this and yanked the connect out. Yeah, we'll see how that stuff actually works. It seemed like it had some nice shortcut functionality for some
of that stuff. They're adding a bunch of other stuff, like some some Facebook tie in stuff and a bunch of a lot more connections between the Xbox app and Windows ten and the Xbox, Like that thing is gonna be gonna become aware of non like Xbox and Windows ten games. Right, you probably read about some of the stuff like they're basically going back, they said, probably like the last well, I was like, how far back are you
going? And they seem to think like maybe you know, the big games of the last decade or whatever, right, Like, it'll be aware of those games, so you'll be able to see, like on your Xbox, you'll be able to see clips that somebody posted of an old PC game that's part of their system now or whatever. So that seems kind of okay. I don't know, we'll see how there are so many different ways to capture
game footage and share it on PC these days. Also that just like none of the Xbox, like the Xbox stuff seemed the Windows ten Xbox integration just seemed too late. Yeah, it's like, all right, well I've already turned off shadow Play and three other ways to do this that I have installed, so when there are better versions of it, like shadow Play is way better than that game bar thing, like way more options. Yeah, yeah,
so a lot of it can seem somewhat redundant. Let's see. Uh, yeah, that's kind of it. I guess that's I mean, there's there's a lot of other minor stuff there, but the new games and apps is the thing I care about more than It's not nothing, you know. Yeah, and the quartan of stuff seems potentially kind of interesting. Anything that makes that interface easier to use is a step in the right direction because in the lifespan of that console it has not gotten a great deal better. I
am mostly interested in seeing them unify the store. That was also part of that's also part of the Yes, the UNWP app stuff be rolling out as part. So when when Windows ten apps kind of live on the Xbox One, Yes, that is also happening because we theoretically have an app that someone made for us that was in the Windows eight store like that. I wonder if that will just come in. Yeah, I don't I mean, I don't know about that one in particular. Ye, I don't know. They
are unifying that stuff. Like when you think about it, the idea of user created apps showing up on that console could could give that console a whole different use case totally. Like if people come up with a bunch of weird apps that you never thought you needed on that thing, Like I could see myself using quite a bit of that stuff. Uh, all right, let's it for news. There was a lot of goddamn news. Yeah, no
short, nuts and bolts shit happening right for three. Not nuts and bolts, not wish not that guy, wish them very real man nuts and bolts too. They made us and bolts at the end of the ukulele trailer. What, Yeah, they're like, oh, next thing, you know, they're gonna put cars in this thing. Also that got pushed to Oh that sounds that sounds just like cheeky kinada. Yeah, I don't know. I'm not going to hold that against them. Yeah. Also it also looks great.
Also, I would assume some of those people were there for that game. I'm sure yeah, okay, all right, yes, that that trailer would Yeah, that got pushed twenty seventeen. But that trailer look super good. Really looking forward to that. Yeah, that game looks surprisingly awesome. All right, one of three, three dudes out of the way, let's get I'm still holding this like this perceived nuts and bolts slight against that game
and the people make meet. So I'm still over here going nope. All right, Well, while you're feeling Brad, what time is it, uh like actual time? No? I mean, like what time? What is the is the next segment? What are we doing? Brad? What time is it time to take a break? What are you talking about? What is the thing that we're going to do when we come back from the break. Maybe you maybe you should sit for this break and find out Alex what time is it? Brad, we went through this. I tried to get
you to talk about it, and you weren't. You were being obstinateially, you know what, I'm not going to help you. I'm not going till I'm still kind of in the dark. Does anybody know what the next segment? Do you want me to say it out loud for you or would you like to say it and give me? Have me give you the set up to tell what do we do now? It's one forty five, It's time. Yes for emails that was getting frequent, fly long. I'm what I'm
not putting me still had a breath left. I could have kept going, but I stopped for you. That's intense. Podcaster john Ball dot com was the email address. I've just always wanted to do that. That was pretty good. I'm not gonna lie first. I always wanted to do that for a dude, for a dude who can't for a dude who can't run down this hallway without getting when did I have a surprising amount of lung capacity? So it was pretty good. First email comes in from John. It's about
Pachinko emulation. Do Pachinko emulators exist. Uh my Google search in English is inconclusive. But tonight I ran across a Japanese which stream which appeared to be showing just that he sent a couple of screenshots. In the stream is cryptically titled cr. It appears to be a Windows program showing all the crazy graphics of a legitimate Pachinko machine Teken or something on the top screen, and then on the bottom it has digital balls rolling around on a photo of a machine.
It says version one point zero point zero in text at the bottom, So maybe pachinko emulation is brand new anyway, I'm just curious if any of you have ever tried it, if it does exist. I didn't imagine it being very much fun, just an emulated slot machine, But then I started watching and was a little entranced by all the crazy graphics and sounds. Wouldn't it be so much better than with the actual like clinking and clanking of the
real balls. I mean, see, if you just want to see the graphics of this thing, then you can you know, emulate the machine and then dupe it into winning so you get to see all the animations crazy shit, way faster than you would. So if I want to watch all those Snake Eater cut scenes in the Fox engine, right, dude, that thing? Dude, man, that dude that looked really nice. Yep, how upsetting is that? That's what that's for. Here's the here's the incredible looking
modern remake of Snaky. To really know, you know what, if there is more, one will never see it. Yeah, I mean, couldn't Canamy technically just put that out? Canomy could do lots of things. Yeah, guess what they're going to do? What they're not going to do that? What is it exactly that you want them to put out? Like the cut scenes just more like an HD update of three. Basically it's not going to happen. They made those cut scenes. You will never have a remake
of Snaking. Those cut scenes are for the gamblers and only for the gamblers. All the voice actings already recorded. You could do it. Nope. Gambling makes a lot of money, it does or loses a lot of money. Health clubs those are huge. Yeah, here's your metal gear themed health club. Okay that it's all pull ups? Yeah? Really okay, I think grip by the end time you're done or your money back yeah, oh wow, Yeah, yep. I mean, does anybody know if this actually
exists? I could believe it does. But if he's saying he saw a stream, I believe it. But this was news to me. But I don't know. Yeah, there's yes, people emulate a lot of weird stuff. Uh, I can think of No fat, I've had an old reason why that couldn't exist. Yeah, well you have to get your hands on all the game for all the machine and stuff like the assets and the right
who knows? Yeah, who can say? You know, people are rebuilding classic pinball machines in various like freely available pinball packages and then emulating the ROMs and hooking it all up like you know, as a fan thing. Not No, I'm not just talking about the pinball arcade. So you know, there's a lot of stuff out there that. Yeah, people jump through a lot of crazy hoops to do a lot of cool shit. So yeah, of course, Oh that medic your footish looks so good. Chris from New
York. So reading the latest news on Vivendi, the media equivalent of the Illuminati taking over game Loft and now focusing on its literal sibling company, you be soft. I got to thinking, has a company ever gone, ever before, gone into a major event like E three with something as big and
scary as a hostile takeover floating over their heads. The closest I can think of is when Apple had to announce a new iPhone while fighting the FBI, But at least then almost every company in Silicon Valley had made legal efforts to back Apple. Ps that Illuminati joke is real. In eighteen fifty three, Vivendi was founded by Napoleon's nephew, also named Napoleon, by imperial decree to profit from Harris's water supply. I did not fact check that, but it
sounds ridiculous. I mean, that's not that's a that is not a story. I would expect someone to just make up a cloth. The Illuminati the same as the Templars, basically kind of. Yeah. I saw Napoleon's nephew at the Hot Monk class year week, and I gotta say, they're sounded really good. Yeah, Yeah, they're they're really coming into their own I would say, even because I would say also with the with the Apple thing, that was not as much of an existential threat as this kind of thing
is. Like, yeah, fighting, I mean Apple was Apple wasn't going to go anywhere. Apple wasn't like in a in a real dire place with that, I guess not. I actually don't remember what instance he's talking about, because that shooting happens since an iPhone has been announced. So no, that's right. But they did have. But but the the FBI, like the stuff, whether they were going to be forced to you know, coerced into unlocking this iPhone, all the other stuff like that stuff was coming to
a head going as they were getting ready to announce stuff. That's true. Oh right, they did announce with the sixth seed whatever it was, back in March. I totally forgot about that. Yeah, I mean there have been companies that have definitely gone into E three in not great situations. I feel like THHQ was probably there. Yeah, yeah, at various points has been there. Sure, but I don't know that anything quite like this.
Yeah. I can't imagine that they acknowledge it in any way whatsoever throughout the course of the show. Well they've got yeah, I mean at least not as part of their main press conference and as the part of the show itself. But you know, they do spend time talking to analysts and those people will have questions for sure that will probably have to be addressed. They're going to have some interpretive dancers come out and uh, you know, sort of
portray the dire circumstances under which the company is in. And then Eves came out. He is going to come out and he's going to read some poetry and then he's gonna shoot all the dancers. I took a darker turn than I intended. Yeah, but it'll be with those fun laser tag guns. Okay, that's fine, Yeah, that's good. Its a lot of real pistol and oh now, no, shoot the cous player and say this is all your fault, and then it'll be revealed that that cous player from last
year Napoleon's Great Great Great and then Assassin's Creed. Yeah, movie trailers played for the sequel, which is all about hustle takeovers. It's a lot of brand synergy. I like it. Uh, Zane in Nashville, Old Nashville Zane. Yep, that's the guy wants to know when games journalism got friendly. I just got done watching Jeff Over from the kind of Yeah right on the kind of Funny Games Cast, where he touched on how games journalists have
gotten friendlier with each other since the old days. Similarly, Austin was recently on an episode of Cool Games, Inc. Dan and Patrick Taku have their thing going. Everyone ever has made an appearance after Paxiomania's because uh, you've got an standing invite. I've never heard from anyone about anything. What's your character? Whats your I don't have one. I probably would say no because I don't. I think I think an old like Kentucky colonel style thing might
be good for you. Seven Okay, could be the cizarro professional terrified of shaving my head. Oh well, he has such good hair. Anyway, we'll see. Anyway. He wants to know. He wants to know win and why this change of heart happened, and why it wasn't always that way and it was always that way, not for everyone, like, not for everyone, yes, not for certain knowledge. I think if you Yeah,
if you were at IGN or you were at game Spot. Back in the day, there was definitely a mentality of the fiefdoms do not interact with each other versus them, but the vast majority of that emanated from the game Spot side and a very specific number of people from Yeah yeah, so yes, it was just the game Spot was being run in a very unfriendly way. It was a very us against the work Yeah, yeah, absolutely, And that was you know, like we had that mentality internally as well, a
very a very competitive way, I would say. Yeah. Also game and Former and AGM or that way in the nineties, that makes yeah, yeah, that totally makes sense. Game pro though, they were just cool to everyone. Yeah, they were super chill yeah, ultra game players yeah yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I would say it was definitely post like that era of game Spot and IgM that things kind of started to branch out. I mean, as sites also kind of started to spread out more and
more, like it's harder and harder everyone and everyone has worked everywhere. Yeah yeah, and and and also just as personality became a bigger focus in the content, you know, yeah, it's a lot more chances for different personality.
It makes a lot better sense. Yeah, it makes a lot less sense to like treat the people in your line of work as enemies when you realize that there is an increasingly few number of people doing your line of work and you all like and they are people of there's a limited number of people who understand like the fucking ins and outs of these sorts of jobs. Yeah.
So having someone we can be like, hey, remember this is this person at this company really horrible to you as well, and they can say, oh, yes, this entire PR team is the worst in the business, and you can say, yeah, right, real crazy anyway, Okay, cool? I thought they just hated me. Yeah, yes, exactly. Like like, being able to bounce that sort of stuff off of someone is fun sometimes. Yeah, that helps. Who's this from this? From her? Hey, I'm pretty young, and because of that, I tried
to do my best to read up on the history of the industry. One thing that I cannot get a feel for, though, is how the community felt about the launch and life of the Sega Saturn. Dozens of issues of Nintendo Power and make it clear that the Ultra sixty four hype was real, and I vaguely remember the excitement around the ninety nine launch of the Saga Dreamcast.
I would love it if you could drop some knowledge on me about the lead up to this console and it's death, as I only know it for having a good port of Virtual Fighter two and some cool working designs games. It's about it. That's a Saturday. Then it's really great, like the coolest surprise launch ever. Yeah, the shadows, that's all. That's what you need to know. Yeah, it was. Yeah, it was a surprise launch, like out of e three they said, and it's available right
now. So that was toys. Half the reason that I pulled this email was because like, so that was that was ninety four right early. I feel like ninety five. Either way, it was like it was it was ninety four Japan maybe, well specifically the the surprise US launch, because it was it wasn't quite pretty Internet like people were starting to get dial up.
I might have been on dial up at that time, but it was way pre an I was on US net by that right, so, but but but the big distinction is there was no like you know, Twitter feed scrolling on the side of your screen at the time. It's like no one's streaming, and right, like I don't have a good sense of like what the mass reaction was to, like, holy shit, there was a major new
console and it's just on sale now. Most people probably didn't hear about it until the next issues at EM or later that week at least, Yeah, when they saw it in a story. Yeah, yeah, it was May ninety five here, yeah, so kay it was three five. Yeah. It was weird, Like I remember getting home from me three and going and buying a Saturn well uh like pretty much immediately, yeah, and it felt like it didn't have a lot of games. And that was also the year
that the PlayStation was ADDI three. Yes, and we spent all of our time and saying like this looks fucking awesome. Yeah, fuck the Saturn. Yeah, like the the thing of like the Saturn is dead in the water was real and it was before the launch of the It was really the day of the launch of the Saturn. You were like, oh, okay, so people were already PlayStation. No, you need to see the fucking PlayStation.
You need to see this ship. Like was that was that was Sony showing the PlayStation not like, well that's not your story, Like yeah, the one Joystick company that had toshnd and running that we went and played was there, but Sony was also there, but they may not have had a bunch of PlayStations out. I can't remember the exact timetable and that stuff, but uh, was that an Atlanta year? No? No? That was? Or wait, was that the first three yeah, because ninety seven was
my first one and that was the third one overall. Yes, that makes sense. Yeah, my first one was nine eight or ninety nine. So yeah, it was this. It was this feeling of like the Saturn was there being ready to shown leading up to its launch or or as you know, in conjunction with its launch as it turned out, and just none of
it looked that great. Yeah, and you looked at it and just like this doesn't I mean, you know, Sega was coming off the thirty two X, so they kind of seemed like they were crazy by that point, yea, And you were just like, well what I mean they you know, the Sega CD came out and that seemed like kind of a swing and a miss, even if even if it did have some neat ideas. And I guess like that launch poured a virtual Fighter looked pretty bad, right,
Yeah, it didn't look great. Uh you know Clockwork ninety So there's just like stuff that you just looked at it form like you know, I don't know, this looks like it could be okay, but it's not quite. It wasn't moving me. And that was the impression I got is that people anyone who had seen the PlayStation, was like, yeah, get it, you need to see the PlayStation. If you had not seen the PlayStation yet, it was like, have you checked out the PlayStation? You should probably
go look at the PlayStation because the Saturn is not a PlayStation. Yeah uh. And and it was this weird shift of like, oh, man, Sony is totally for real. Like it wasn't just like here's some big company like Phillips getting in three d o you know, like some weird laser disc add on. Yeah, it wasn't just something. You know, you looked at it the same way you looked at Microsoft getting in when the Xbox came out, of just like what the fuck does this company know about video game?
But this players, Yeah, they're they're doomed whatever. I do remember that attitude for sure, yeah uh and and but then upon seeing the PlayStation, you were like, they are absolutely one hundred percent for real. They are fucking doing it in a way that no one else is. Like this is the thing. The proof was one hundred percent. And the pudding on that one because like just the first time you saw games running on just like okay, I've got to get one of those, definitely, And I remember
hearing this would have been ninety four. Maybe we're hearing a ninety four from someone Like we had three dos and stuff in the office at the magazine I worked at at the time and all this other stuff, and as I was getting ready to fold, there was a guy that was like, hey, yeah, so I know a guy who were at Sony and they're getting ready to do a video game console. I could probably hook you up with them or something like that. And it just never happened because the magazine folded.
But at the time it was like that thing of just like, well, we already had this three do and that thing was a thousand, you know, seven hundred bucks and a piece of shit. So it was just like, well, whatever, some other CD companies are gonna get in with some more fucking garbage. Whatever. This thing is no way, no way. I've got a PC. I'm playing Doom on it. Who cares? But yeah, yeah, the PlayStation was instantly impressive and the Saturn was not okay.
So I didn't realize going into that launch, people were already going like the thing's doomed, maybe doomed. But it was like, dude, the PlayStation is right around the corner and is awesome, It just didn't make the
splash they had intended with that surprise announcement. So so the big crazy marketing move because because we to this day say like, oh god, I hope they just announced on release Half Life three, you know, like that crazy marketing move of like here it is and it's out, Like they didn't really make a lot of waves. Yeah, no, it well yeah it did.
But you know, remember like the lasting legacy of that is that it was terrible for them because only a certain number of retailers got that early stock of Saturn, which then pissed off all the other retailers, inspiring them to
double their orders on PlayStation or something. You know, So it really rubbed a lot of people in the retail space the wrong way, and the Saturn launch started with a bunch of problems like that, and so it would I think it was probably a pretty bad way for them to launch their console. Plus they just had no time to market it right, get the word out. It's so weird that the one high profile example of that happening was something as big as a like major console and now just like oh this weird game
came out surprise. Yeah, you know, but that's you know, fallout shelter last year was that, you know, Yeah, Apple does that stuff routinely with some of their devices, Well not so much anymore, but you know they go on they go on pre order. They used to do that, well the yeah, or like the laptops and stuff, they'll still do that. Yeah, Yeah, it's one all to day. With digital games, it's a different thing because there's no like shipping it to retailers and meeting
space on shelves. And now if you if you have to go through that process of shipping things to retailers, it'll leak out, you know. Yeah, So that's what happened with this and Justice. Yeah, right, Like I mean that's you know, that's them getting ready to start a pre order campaign, right and they can't even keep that under wrap. Probably the day that it gets announced. You would think that that stuff would get like that.
They would come up with new ways at game Stop Corporate to stop the ship like that from happening of like all right, we're gonna ship these in fucking locked up ship and then we're not going to send you the combination for the lock until such and such time, and that will be coincided with the announcement, and then you will be ready to take pre orders for the game that is inside, and we will update your computers at said time to reflect
this new pre order campaign. Like, it's amazing to me that this has not been tightened up. And it's one of those things that I guess maybe, well whatever, maybe no one actually cares that much, because it does generate a certain amount of excitement with the people who really do keep their ear to the ground. Yeah, and the announcemental still get press. Yeah, still still catch you know, the attention of people in the mainstream. Uh, let's see how about this email? Yeah? Sure? Why Brian from
Aurora, Ontario. On last week's podcast, you guys were talking about Platinum Games making crappy games. Drew was curious about what their main team could be working on, and I was wondering what happened to scale Bound That how to Train Your Dragons with Beats Headphones game? It seems to still be coming. But has Hope died for it? Why is there no interest or news for this? I haven't really shown anything. Yeah, they showed it at Games
Colm. They have a playable demo at Games Colm last year where it looks like tentatively interesting, but I feel like I remember it also running kind of like crap. Yeah, I don't feel like that game has made a super strong impression on people yet, like outside of like some of the aesthetic choices. But that, I mean is definitely what that main team is working on right now. Yeah. I think that's what Kamio is working on specifically, right, Yeah, that's his game. I think shame they didn't have his
touch on that Ninja Turtles game because yeah, don't hear good things? Uh yeah, they're like, we tried to keep our ear to the ground on what's up with scale Bound and haven't heard anything. I mean, it's not this year. I know that I'm not coming out this year. No, I'm pretty sure they said, like that's a twenty seventeen. Okay, well if it's that far back then maybe it. We'll be eighty three either, who can say? Yeah? Uh Sean from Indianapolis, Hey, guys,
just watching, he says the Old Games Show. I'm pretty sure this was on game tapes, but I might be wrong. And the momentary confusion between bust a Move and bust a Groove got me thinking, are there any name changes between territories? That have always bugged you or even put you off of the game entirely. I personally refused to called jet Set Radio by that other name. The change between soul Edge and soul Blade has always tripped me out
as well. Yeah, the soul Edge soul Blade thing was weird, yeah, because in arcades here it was soul Blade, right right, No, No, it was the Arcade When it came to PlayStation, it was the same game, right, yes, And I want to say that there were some updates, but there were also updates to the arcade version of soul Blade at one point, and then it just became soul Caliber and then they never
went back to soul Blade. Yeah. I actually think it would be really cool if they came out of the game and just called it soul Edge two. Okay, all right, yeah, sure or three? That was the Yeah, I remember back then that was the weird thing because you thought of it as the soul Edge franchise. Yeah, and then soul Caliber came out and you're like, oh, this is a weird name for a sequel,
and then it just became that became the name of the thing. Like that game was so popular that it just made sense to make a sequel to that thing exploded. You have thought it was weird when they're like, this is the Soul Caliber two, Like, no, it's Soul Edge three three. Yeah, what the fuck is going on? It's called Dark Forces two, damn it, night Jet and Night Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I think Biohazard is a better name. It doesn't really bug me, residents. It's
a bad a great bad name. I'm not saying it's just no merit, but it's a bad name, and Biohazard's a pretty cool name. It's a great band. Yeah. Didn't Life Force used to be called Salamander? Yeah, it's Salamander in Japan. Yeah, that Salamander is a pretty good name. It should have saved Salamander. That's why it's it's just not that for what that game is. I think it's pretty lockative. Actually, the thing is nothing but weird organic space worms that you're shooting. Salamander is just so
unusual as I like it. Yeah, I think there're more instances of the US box art being so much worse than the Japanese box art. That's a whole other conversation, Yeah, for sure. But yeah, the jet Set Radio is the right name for that game of the franchise, like dudes, didn't. One of them came out as Jest set here right. Yeah, yes, JFRF came out as JFRF Future. That Radio Future was that was JSRF like the actual title just to get around the copyright shop. Probably the
first game was Jack Rin Radio. Yeah, yeah, that's dubh. Let's see. This is from Zachary. It's probably mostly for Jeff. He wants help identifying a weird console from childhood. I have a very vivid memory of playing a Hannah Barbera that is, Jetson's and flint Stones characters game in the
early nineties on what I think might have been an early DVD player. Well, DVDs came out like ninety seven, so though it couldn't be that, but I know that he says that, I know that DVD players weren't out there, but I vividly remember using a disc and playing the game with what looked like a TV remote. I also remember that my grandmother, who had the console in question, explaining to me that one of the people who made the game was killed in the north Ridge of earthquake, which makes me think
it was around ninety four. Any ideas what this mystery console might have been. I mean, it could have been a CDI or a CDTV. What did What did they say was that they played was the French CDI. Yeah, that sounds like maybe some time period and CD I. I think I remember the controller being really shitty like Yeah, I think the controller was like a remote control. Yeah. I remember playing some boxing game on CDI and I think it was with a controller like remote control. Yeah, I'm looking
at flint Stone CDI. Yeah, here we go. Let's play the Flinstones and Jetsons time warp for the Philip CD or Hanna Barbarious Cartoon Carnival for the CD. Also could be it's probably a CDI, all right, let's say CDI. That would explain the DVD. That would make a lot of sense confusion as well. Yeah, the flint Stones balloon Valley who is a part of the Hanna Barbarious Cartoon Carnival. This looks bad. I guess we should
dig it up. This looks bad. This is rough. This is rough because I don't know if there's enough stuff to do another CDI stream with. No, I don't have enough stuff. I'll just play this would get our hands on some more there's some trivia in here. What item of clothing does top Cat wear vest, bow tire suspenders? I'm gonna pay bow tie suspenders. What is the fuck is going on down there? We're having a cartoon carnival over there, Top Cats top Facts. Yam, this looks rough,
but yes, that's that's likely. What it was? That also sounds rough? What was what was the north Ridge quake? That wasn't the that was the la Okay? All right? Yes? What's the name of the eighty nine one? Is their name for that? Loma Prietta? Yes? Right, yes, okay. I moved to Pedaluma two weeks after that earth quake? Is it the World Series one? Yeah? Yes, yes, indeed. UH got some more good Cold War nuclear stories in this week, but
Drew's not here, so we have to save those. Let's see a Nowady writes in from Santa Anna, says, YO, just wondering if you guys ever had a gaming experience in which poor fidelity of any sort ads a benefit to the experience. As someone who loves Star Fucks sixty four, I know, I know, I know it's good. No. I always found the drop in frame rate when bosses blow up as a stylistic benefit. I think
Bass drop a lot movie trailers. You guys also mentioned pay Day during the May thirty first podcast, which reminded me that I dug that game because little quirks like being able to revive someone through a wall during a hard AI cop push uh puts that puts all focus on, said teammate. It was quite useful, A nice way to survive that ordeal. Am I crazy like Mega
Man? I like the frame rate drops and the little things like pausing and unpausing to do it like Man's Okay, I wouldn't say I liked that, but I got used to it, like I got I grew accustomed tape like a trademark of the series, to having so many of those any asking more time to react? Yeah, y yeah, I could see that. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, yeah, there's there's just definitely like
cases where like but yeah, I think Boss is exploding in shooters. That's the thing where you know where that slow frame rate because the explosion is so fucking massive. That's kind of cool. Yea. I had that golden eye when you're playing four player and like a ton of remote minds or proximity minds are going off and everything's just going to ship and it's the same feeling.
Yeah, it's like there's too many explosions happening. I was I was the idiot who got an original three D effects card and said, man, geo quake looks cool, and then went right back to software because I got like two in frames a second and it and I cared way more about frame rate
than than it looking cool. That's one of the things that I ended up liking about Gary's mod is that you're you're just spawning stuff into the world, and there were things like you could build things that would basically launch other entities. So I built a bike gun would fire bikes, and then there was this model pack that we had on our server that had dominoes as part of
it. It was like it was like a bunch of like skate park stuff and these big dominoes, and you would launch the dominoes like exploding dominoes. They would land and explode, but if you had too many of them, the whole server would crash, so you would crash everyone else's game, like you just full on hard crash, uh. And that was always fun. So like whenever I got bored, like oh, it's me and a few friends, just like we're gonna spend a few hours just building shit and fucking
around. And I was like, I think I'm done with this. We just launched these dominoes, crash the server and then laugh and quit. Uh yeah, that stuff's fun in the right context. I guess. Yeah, Okay, see like three more emails or something. Sure Andrews from akron Ohio. I went back and started Assassin's Creed Brotherhood today and discovered it was the
original idle game. You invest in shops and the numbers get bigger. You walk around and steal money from people to invest in shops so the numbers can get bigger. You leave the game running for hours so you can get the numbers to get bigger. The numbers get bigger, Yeah that's you. Also you also send yeah Ai off to do for you that run on timers that make the numbers get bigger. Is all there? Like that game is like totally pre Clicker, right. Uh no, i'leation. I feel like cal
Clicker was probably before that. Before that was maybe around the same. I didn't twenty I think is when that game came out. I don't when when that game came out. I don't remember thinking of those concepts as like, oh god, these are a bunch of shitty phone game mechanics that they shoved into this. I thought it was a joke, like when caw Clicker first came around, Right, Well, that wasn't and that was a plan. Yeah, I don't, I don't remember. Cal Clicker was July twenty ten.
I never I never actually saw that thing. But okay, that would have been before Brotherhood. I guess I thought that was a cool aspect of Brotherhood, Yes, which has been born out by the number of vital games have come out since. Yes, So the answer is yes. Uh. Email from Stephen that simply reads horizontal stand for PS two Why? I like? Why not? But the Little Blue probably the only actual answering cool Shadab Blue does look nice. It's a decent Shadab blue. I was happy to
buy one because it was so dumb. But wow, how much was that thing? Like twenty bucks? Maybe not even that. I don't know. I'm not sure it does. It does certainly does enhance the presentation of the two where you have it, Did you actually bother turning the P logo on it? Or did you do in vertical. Yes, I mean lots of people just ignored that. No, that's missing out a little touch, Okay, missing out on a key. Agree with what I'm saying. I did.
Lots of people I knew would turn their thing sideways and then just not bother with the turning. Don't be friends. Those people have no standards, I agree. They live with no code. Yes they are. They are without honor. They must be perched. Jordan in Pittsburgh. I've been wondering what the top of Toad's head is. Is it a hat or is it just the top of his head. It's a mushroom. His head is a mushroom heads us, So that's his head. It's mushrom kingdom. Okay,
that's much from people. Yeah, the toads are that is their head is is giant mushroom thing. Show me any official art that shows Toadsworth or Toadette or toad without their mushroom hats. He's a mushroom retainer. Yeah, you know it's under there his damn brain. That's why I want to see You don't want to see that. Yeah, I guess that's a good point. He wouldn't be a mushroom without the mushroom cap. Yeah all right, so yeah, like they always say, they'll try to pull that thing off.
Okay. Last email from Owen. My parents own a cabin surrounded by one hundred and sixty acres in the desolate Mendocino National Forest on the Sacramento Valley side of the range. Ye. The closest person to the cabin is a hermit that lives across the canyon about ten miles away. The kind of place nobody would hear your screams. One time, my mom was out for a walk down one of the many dirt roads, saw some bare human footprints in the dirt. As she looks up, there are two men looking at her just
about fifty feet away. They quickly duck into the bushes and drop a bag and shoes. She high tails it out of there in fear of being shot. Naturally, my parents call into the Forest Service letting them know there were some creepers floating around our cabin. As suspected, there was a massive grow with hundreds of plants less than a mile away. It had been there for at least a month. Very spooky, like seeing Bigfoot, but sasquatch doesn't
set traps. Both my parents carry side arms when walking in the woods. But now it's not just for mountain lions. M So, if you wanted to hear hear a real life story of illicit grow ops in northern California. We're setting traps like the grow people's that's what he's implying here. That certainly would happen. Yeah, Jesus Christ. So yeah, that's like we I mean, we'd predator. Look, everything kind of north of like Yukaiah and
Upward is basically one giant grow operation in one way or another. To be careful, a lot of like businesses that have no business being open anymore. Yeah, it's like, I don't know why this crystal shop stays in business, but man, they're moving a lot of crystals. Yeah, they're flourishing. Just look at their books. Some people end and out of the Narby Park back there. Yeah yeah, yeah, no, that's that's yeah. This came up last week on the pod. Yeah yeah, I don't know.
I didn't need the context like that was say yes, yeah, you also lived in the context, yes for that. In some ways, this is a I had definitely had friends that would go up to Humboldt for six months at a time around the spring and summer to pick. Yeah, strawberries, right, yeah, obviously apples. They got a construction gig. I had a town construction job. Be back in six months. Yeah, oh okay, all right, there's a true life story. Uh that's it.
I'm cutting it off here. Okay, it's weirdly like humid and sweaty in this room. I think we need to get out. I think I get ready for you three. I'm sorry that I did that to this room. It's okay, it was not It's never been like this before. No, they're the only thing that's different. We can put up with it for. Maybe it's the red lights. Maybe it's the summary style. Yeened it up? All right? Well, yeah, we're shipping off to LA this weekend
for electronic entertainment next boo. Yeah, we'll have our coverage will well, we'll be driving down on Saturday morning, so you can catch that on Mixler. Catch that at the Zone and Jeff dot zot zone. That's probably the shortest url to get more information and to click through to where there's a chat room and all that other stuff for for the Mixler stuff. Yes, and then we'll be up in broadcasting on Sunday. Yeah, for the e A press conference starting at one pm on Sunday. Well, I guess we'll be
live a bit before that. Yeah, probably more like twelve thirty or something like that. Stuff out, you know, yeah, to get things, get things going, yep, and then it's off to the races. It's all gonna happen, so a whole bunch of stuff. It's all happened Tight and Fall two. Yeah that's a video game. Yeah, yeah, we'll be it. We'll be doing uh, the EA and the thouts of conferences
on Sunday. Monday is like that whole thing. Yeah, Tuesday morning is Nintendo and then you know we'll be at the show and doing live shows every night, you guests, podcasts here and there, all kinds of other stuff. Got a killer lineup this year. Yeah, yes, indeed trying out Sneeze. Yeah, as we said, they're they're busy breaking down our whole production pipeline right now and putting it in a truck. So kind of light
on the video stuff from this end for the rest of the week. But well, Austin and Vinnie are still out East and no, I'm not privy to what they're up to this week, but I'm sure they'll get up to some chicanery, yeah, some nonsense, yes, And I think we're gonna try try to put some kind of stream together. Yeah yeah. We'll see what we can get going at the end of this week with what we have. So anyway, that's it. Thank you for listening. This has been the Giant Bomb Casts. See its show m
