Mm hm, thing on? No, what what is? Hello? Testing on? What's working? Wow? One? Two? Check? Hollo hello ho hello, go go on? Uh can you hear me? You think you're almost there? Hi up? Can you hear me? Hi up? Can you hear me? What? What? What? What do I say? Here? What goes? Something goes? Here? Right? Hell? Hell? It's all It's all drifting back as if full a dream. Hello, happy, Hello, Hello, it's what is today? It's the fifth of January on a Tuesday, twenty sixteen. What's the giant bomb cast?
Year? Happy New Year? Hello, I'm Brad Shoemaker. Brad. Let's go around the Hello Jason a striker. I am Jason. I wasn't going to go around the table. But you're sitting right across from men. Yeah, we're doing it and crosses now he's adjacent to me. Jeez, god, Hello Da, it's the new Jason of twenty sixteen. Here impatient father, Jason a striker. Yes, you strike me as a patient father. Yeah, am I correcting that? You've been calm? You've always been very
calm. Yeah, in the years i've known you, even with you yeah, yeah, I think with the baby, I think you would do very well, yeah, I think so. Yeah, he seems to like me just fine. He's got a very even temperament, like he'll just if he's upset about something, he'll let us know and the most, you know, like calm way possible. He hasn't He hasn't launched any formal complaints. No, not as yet. Now he doesn't know how to write some contact hr.
I didn't let him know who HR smart? Was smart? Jeff Cursman Dan record also here. Hello, I guess this is the part where we talk about stuff. Sure holiday, Hey it's over, Yeah it is. Fuck. It was going so well that I was getting really good at not wearing outside clothes. Yeah. I do you not like really want to get back to work after like a two week break? It depends in some ways.
Maybe in some ways definitely not I get to that boot because I've been sick the entire break and so like I didn't really leave the house at all. Yeah, and so but get that Cavin fever thing. That's a real thing. I have not stepped outside today. I worked out in two weeks. I just I could not wait to like get out and do things again
today. So you can sometimes I would have like a I would set a rule for myself if I'm going to leave the house once per day, and that didn't necessarily mean that I was going to put on outdoor clothes, drive throughs or you know whatever. Yeah, you know, whatever nightmare I want to inflict on myself at a given time. But you know, it was like at least I was like getting in a car and driving a car and like doing things that required thought. Yeah, this time, not so much
here and there. But there were definitely there were probably stretches of three days where I didn't leave the house. It sounds good, that's about right. I think the only time I really left outside of going home for Christmas was like New Year's night. It's like, well, I gotta at least go out and be among humans for a little bit. Went out, you know,
few drinks and stuff, but that's pretty much info. Yeah. Yeah, we went out, like we went out of like eight o'clock or something like a little bit, like I was having an appetizer and a you know, hang out a little bit and let's get away from here before it becomes a nightmare. Yeah, So I was going to I was gonna go out with you, but then I realized oh, christ, my son is getting
his like two months shots today, so he's gonna feel terrible. And he really did so because of just the pain of the injection, like all day he's mad or how does that work? I mean you've heard of like, you know, flu shots and stuff like that, you know, kind of come down with the symptoms and stuff. So the slight little bit of the thing, Yeah, it was a little and like you know, his legs probably hurt. They were probably stiff and sore and stuff. So he was
he was not not too happy. Where is that where he gets him? Yeah, and the legs, Yes, that doesn't seem fair. I know, right, it's well, it's the fattiest part that in his or his cheeks. I don't think that really works. I would that would suck. You gotta find the maximum baby fat, Like they'll give shots into like your face cheeks. No, No, what are you saying that they choose the fattiest part of the baby. Right, So it's the legs, Yeah, it's the legs, okay, or the cheeks are chubby as well. The
ron him saying, that's what you're saying. I were getting shots in my butt when I was a little kid. That was the thing that happened a lot. I got him on his heels when he was born heels. He's got a lot of fat there. I don't know that's where they stuck stuff in him. It's weird. Shit. Yeah, this is an unnerving conversation. It's not what I signed up for when I came back in here today at the first time in two weeks. I didn't make it out of the
house much. You got You've got a plausible excuse. We were sick. Yeah, we kept passing around like disease germs to one another. So I started it, and then Griffin and then Lisa, and then back and forth them. It was terrible. So I had the same thing here my girlfriend got sick. And then there was a point where, speaking of injections, I all of a sudden had this weird little ball above my lip, Like
it wasn't visible. It felt like it was something like a pimple, Like I kept squeezing it and nothing would come out, like nothing was on the surface. Sure, but it felt like a little like like a hard peet, like a little metal bb or something in my lip. Was it painful
that accidentally got injected into your face from the inside. I can't confirm or deny this, but yeah, I went on Amazon Prime Now and ordered a bunch of sewing needles and had them delivered in like an hour, and then had my girlfriend take in my face and try to pop whatever was inside. My lisp was just like hang out and just like take a bunch of bad drugs. Like, do we need to get the sewing needles? I got a great idea how to fix this. That's like the most messed out lance.
You got a lance of the things like halfway to taking a part of clock radio because it's mocking you did you did you hold the needle in a flame? First? Yeah? Sterilize it? We what do you want brand new needles? So? Oh fuck? I didn think where I laid down, So I took a sharpie and I because I could feel where it was, so I took a sharpe and made a little dot, uh like I had to go through like my mustache hair, and then I just laid on
the ground. And then I was all worried that she was since she was gonna pierce through my skin that there was sharpie on it, and so I was gonna get sharpie ink in my face. Like in the blood stream. I didn't know if that was safe from probably, And so for like a good hour it's just her jabbing at my face with a needle and then me trying to jet like we went through the skin on the front part of my face, and then from the ends she lifted my lip up and tried to
pierce it through like the fleshy underside. And this all sucked. This is no good at Yeah, did you ever considered consulting medical personae. There's a cope, you know you can do. It was like four dollars. We also wanted to buy a clue, so we also got clue delivered in the same one hour thing. All right, you just decide you want to play clue, and then an hour later a dude shows up and gives a clue. What Yeah, Amazon Prime Now sounds like scary. So I don't live
in a in a serviced city. Oh I thought that was the same day. I didn't know it was within an hour. Oh, you can get it within an hour. It's great. I use it all the time now. I just order like like literally two hundred cans of soda because I don't have a car, so it's hard to carry them all from Suway. Is it an extra extra fee to get in within an hour? No? No, it's a five dollar suggested tip. And if you're over, I think like twenty dollars or something. I think it's all just kind of waved.
Man. Yeah, Cosmo dot Comsmo dot com back, we should order something right now. You did, you could have a delivered by time we're done. We could have it before the end of this podcast. That's scary. That. Yeah. Every time I've sat down because because I'm here for work and stuff, so every time I think like, oh man, I could order something and have it right now, and then I go like, well, what would I get? And that's like the dumbest way to shops,
Like what could I get right now? I don't actually need anything, but what I just want to get something now? Uh, And and then I uninstall the app from my phone. That's that's super handy, probably smart. That way lies madness. You can. Brad talked me out of Impulse purchasing one thousand dollars TV, but you had already bought it. I did already buy it. I know. I came in super excited today. I was like, oh man, I just got a great deal on a four KTV
ever the future. And then I talked to Brad four K TV as well. What it was curved. Yeah, I don't care about curve, but it was Dan to buy this stupid thing. I want him to fucking way you you were helping me exactly. That's a great rating on display leg Come. I'm like, this is great for getting Dan. Yeah, wait are
you saying that I made a mistake? And in talking him out of buying that, Twitter also did a lot of people on Twitter were like, oh, it's worth a thousand Curved is stupid and like yeah, I never wanted the curve to begin with. And I was like, shit, I already set a delivery for Friday morning. This fucking they're packaging this ki here is here is what I think is the most appalling thing though about this whole process, is that you bought another TV that's the same size as your currency.
Yeah, but it's four K. But then I learned you can't actually do anything with for always buy a bigger TV. Always. I have a fifty five inches, you don't need you can have a six get it. Yes, I got a tiny living room. I don't need much. I can go. But if it was bigger, it was the TV was just like one of the walls in your living room. Okay, all right, now, granted you there's not a lot of four K content out there, but it will look a little bit better. Well, because that's the thing.
I'm fine with that. I've heard the opposite though. I really read there maybe maybe this was a problem with like the first gen four KSE sets, but I read that a lot of them are bad at scaling ten eighty signals. I've seen some stuff, but yeah, like I said, maybe the new runs are better. Is that like when you take a normal like DS game and you blow it up onto the big like three DS's and then it looks all like that that's not supposed to be this big? Is it like
that? Okay, it can be. Yeah, there's a little more magic in the technology than that that tries to scoot it out. But sure, yeah, sure version. I came into work today real excited about my new TV, and then Brad and the Internet made me sad, and now I'm not getting a new TV. Jeff chipped into. I almost bought, or I didn't almost. By I started looking at wide monitors, it was like twenty one by nine saw. I saw twenty one by nine at Will Smith's house a few weeks ago, and I was like, huh, it's the
whole width of the desk because right now I'm using two monitors. And I went in ahead and turn into my second one, uh, the other way vertically, and that's been fun. Like I just keep like Twitter and Steam open on that thing all the time. It yeah, or yes, I could play Karrug on it all the time, hook up a Dreamcast and get to work. But yeah, it's I don't need that second monitor that much. And I my my main monitor is quite large, so I could really
I could fit everything in there. Yeah. The one time, the one time I find the second monitor super useful is for streaming slash recording stuff locally, like anything where you need to like see your preview window of like here's how the streams going out, but not on the screen that the game is running on right window or so I got my laptop there, I could do that with that too. But it's yeah, that is that is nice. Have you tried much gaming on that ultra wide monitor? Again? I did
not get one. I've heard some games are not super immediately like some games are good at it, and some games games are confused. Give supp orders and go sixteen by nine pretty pretty easily. But there's like some third party tools will help you. I can figure that stuff. Check out White Screen Gaming Form see what they've got to say. Check out an ultra watch screen gaming. We got to rehack all our wide screen backs. They support twenty
one behind. That was the thing. When we all bought that wide screen monitor at game Spot like ten years ago, nothing supported. My second monitor is still yeah, I'm using. I've got two of those that I'm still using. Whatever happened, Whatever happened to the Sony TV they sold where you could play two players on the same screen if you're sitting in different parts of the room. I've got one of those somewhere. Yeah, it's a piece
of garbage, But it wasn't even if you were sitting somewhere. It was like you wore each of you yeah yeah, So one player would see one thing and the other player woul see the other thing. So it was like it was flickering between the two images and would filter out the bad image if you were playing. Like many games actually supported that, like two Like some racing games they demonstrate. It seemed like it seemed like they would only be
useful in like a dorm room or something. That was that was who they were targeting because it was a really cheap ten ADP set. Yeah. So it was a really cheap ten APTV the yeah, and that, you know, and it looked like a giant PSP. Yeah. We we had won a game Informer lasted a month, we did, yeah, we did, but just died. I don't know what happened to that thing. I brought it back into the office because someone needed a teach. Oh wait, do you have that? Yes, that's right, I totally do have that thing.
Yeah, I needed it for Extra Life last year. Right, Yes, that's right, it is. It is under some stuff in my home office. I totally forgot I had that thing. You're right, I think is really bad. Yeah, it's it's not a good TV. Uh. I should bring that back in. Uh. Video games, Yes, now you're talking. I managed to not really play any now you're talking for the break hell. Yeah, anybody I tried to? Did you play some? I mean I dabbled with some stuff here. I found out with Rusial Galaxy
a little bit. Oh that's oh god, right, that's the space trucking game. Yeah. Yeah, you know it's got broadside lasers. You know, it's like it's like the boat stuff in Black Flag, but in space and also some Yeah. I didn't get too deep into it, but I feel like Game of the Year discussions this year were a great jumping off point for like, oh I need to play that and that and that, Like everybody was bringing games to the table that like not many people had played.
Yeah. Yeah, and Rebel Gallaxy was like a big one of those where they just kept getting behind that game. Yeah, and I didn't even know what it was going into that thing. So yeah, I had looked at it around the time it came out, and this looks like it might be neat. Those guys should do something with it, and then that was the last time I thought about it. Yeah, I don't know. I fooled around that just a touch and it's got chops. It's it's cool looking.
Yeah I didn't I that's from you know, a couple hours of gameplay or something. So I don't know for sure, but it seems neat. Gosh what else I So I spent like the last few weeks just here and there chipping away at the tutorials and Elite Dangerous. Okay, that came up too, and I was also discussed during Game of the Year. I finished all the tutorials and Elite Dangerous and then I was like, all right, I know how to play Elite Dangerous. Let's get out into mother fucking space.
And then I started the game of Elite Dangerous. I have no idea what the fuck do. It was like, there were some quests I could take, but they were all like none of them made any sense or seemed like I couldn't figure out where I needed to go. It was like, but there are yeah, yeah, you started docked at a space station, so you can look at a menu and go like, hey, take some jobs. And I was like, fuck, yeah, I'm gonna take this job
to like go find this like like salvage cargo or something. And I don't know. I took the mission and then I have no idea where the mission is or where I needed to go or anything. And then I quit the game. And then I opened it up two days later and said, hey, you failed that mission. I'm like, oh, well, I guess so, and so then I said, well, fuck it, let's go into space and then I started flying. I'd said I was set a course for something, and then I don't know. I couldn't figure out how to
get there. And the tutorials have just made me t times is confused, and I probably would have been other way. Are they straight up and adequate? Is that? I guess? I guess, so I get and I no, I guess. I don't know. Like I it taught me how to land, it taught me how to take off. It's it's I shot a bunch of shit or Xbox PC, but I'm using an Xbox controller. But I have the option of the keyboard if I want to, you know, get into some of the more you know, refined controls. I just
don't know. I don't know what. And that's very much in the vein of the original Elite, Like it was very much like just fucking get out there and do stuff, and that my understanding is that this is very much that too. But there was just nothing to say like, hey, maybe try this first, or hey, if you want to fight people, do this, so that those quests were not adequate to like lead you to that. It didn't. I didn't feel like they were leading me towards any like
particular. I don't know. I couldn't even figure out where the cargo stuff was. It was just like, go find the cargo stuff and scan it, or you're salvage it or do something. I think you could salvage it have a cargo scoop that wasn't in the tutorial, but there I saw an item. I saw an object you could activate that seemed to be I believe it was called cargo scoop. Fucking I don't know. Many Maybe it's because I'm playing Elite Dangerous Horizons, the like second season of content quote unquote.
It's like a separate entry on Steam. It's listed as early access. It's a standalone thing, but I think it's also you can buy it as an add on for the original Elite. I don't actually know. You think they assume that you just know how to do yes, I mean it still has all the tutorials in it, and so you know it's I don't think it's supposed to be a separate game in terms of like, hey, you played the other one. I think it's more like, hey, this is still
that same world. It's still all connected, but you have the Horizons content, so you'll be able to land on planets and drive a little vehicle if you could find a cool one to go to. Yeah, I don't sounds like Muster or Hunter without space. Yeah sure, yeah, okay, there's no online in that, right, It's all online. It is constantly online. But I mean, like, you don't see players flying around you like it's a new mothing. No, no, no, no, Well,
so I think you will. I think you are. You are definitely on a server, and I believe that you will see other human players from time to time, but I don't think it's a widespread You play in private groups as well. I want to say you'll eventually see other humans, but I guess I can't say for sure. Well, no, thank you. Then you don't want any other human concept. I'm getting into space to get away from people. That's right. Space is big, man. Yeah, go
find your own area, find fund space system to hang out in. This one's mine. So then I don't know. I me. So I had a more satisfying time playing Star Raiders for the Atari eight. Does that game have like a big grid in it? Yeah? Okay, my uncle had that game and I kept trying. Did have a weird control or two? So if you played a Dial six hundred. It came with a little keyboard
control. Okay, yes, I played it on the Atari home computer, which had a keyboard because it was a computer, of course, and it was a better version of the game. Uh, and it's you know. I flew around and shot shit that looked like bootlegs High Fighters and had a good time doing it. And then I was like seven, and I kept playing that every time I went to my own Yeah. I had no idea what was going on. Yeah, and I just remember a big white grid
and not much else. Yeah. If if I hadn't played a ton of that game when I was a kid, going back and playing it now, there was definitely like a feeling. He was like, I, all these venues are fucking nonsense. But I figured it out. There's a Star Raiders too. They're actually it's a couple of Star Raiders two's, but one of them just got uncovered and released relatively recently. It was not commercially released.
It's been hanging out for the last thirty years. So they were making a last Starfighter game at a Tari didn't come together or they lost the rights or something, and the movie didn't do as well as they hoped, so they said, well, fuck, that movie was perfect. I don't know at the time. Did that movie not do well? I don't know, is one of the I kind of want to know now. I don't know if it did a buffo bo numbers or not, but number one with a bullet
over here in these parts. It's a good movie. Anyway. The game was shit, and and they eventually released it the name Star Raiders too. So wait, so that one did come out, Yeah, okay, and it was a totally different game, and I did you know, I didn't play it at the time. I was coming to it, you know, a few years ago or something, going like, what the fuck is this
garbage? Right? Anyway, So I guess they released that to salvage this last Starfighter game, ignoring the fact that someone had already spent a year making a game called Star Raiders two and was actually like good and similar to the first one. Yeah. Man, it's like shame like loading it up, You're like, fuck, if this game had come out then it would be a fucking mind blower. The original Star Raiders come out in fucking seventy nine, so it's crazy. Anyway, So I messed around with that a tiny,
tiny bit. So wait, did this just come to light? This just surface in the last like a few months. Yeah. The guy who who coded the game reached out to some people in the kind of Atari community as well as one Mike Micah and Frank Siffaldi, who then brought there crazy big drives of let's figure out how to read these disks, and then they read those discs. Good guess, talk to you if you got an unreleased
classic game that you want to be exactly there. Yeah. Yeah, so, uh they got it together and got it out there, and it's uh, it's fucking neat. So yeah, I don't know. Fun with that a little bit. And then three times I loaded up Amplitude and then before it finished getting out of the menus, I got interrupted and had to go do something else. That's the extent of your ape. Yeah, that's the
extent of my Amplitude experience, through no fault of the game's own. It was just like I would load it up, then fuck, I gotta I gotta go do this thing, and then I'd have to like close it and that came out and no, no, it's out, it's out. On the fifth Yeah, it's out of this podcast today. There's not a lot of fanfare about that. Well, I mean the way that wait, it's up for backers. Yeah, kickstarter backers have it and then they sent codes to press. Are such? Are people liking it? I have no idea.
Alex said it was. It was they made another one of those games. Alex, they said in the production meeting this morning. Yes, he he seemed fine with it, but not like also not jumping out of his chair. I you know, for me, the lack of like licensed music,
I think really hurts that thing. It's a lot of the harmonics bands was gone where there's like there's a Freese pop on there's they did, yes, but at the same time, I you know, I mean, isn't that But I say that having not heard most of the music, but but having recognizable music was a big part of those games for me. And being able to kind of remix songs I already knew in a way or hear the different stems of those songs at least as you're kind of turning on the different
tracks. That was a really interesting part of that game for me. What type of what type of stuff was in those games, Like there's like a no doubt remix in there. You know, there's the there's yeah, a handful of different styles of songs. So so not having that stuff in that
game kind of is a bummer. Yeah. Well, I mean, you know, think back to when that game got funded, you know, like it barely got funded, Like no, it's totally had their hands full just getting the game made, you know, yeah, no extra resources to get classic music, right, but they got it done, yeah, and got it out. Yeah, So congratulations, the kickstarter works. I guess. I don't. I don't know. Yeah, this was is this hit for
that game? I wasn't. Isn't there some kind of promission air period where this is like, hey, this is the first version and then we're going to add some stuff order. Did I dream that up? I swear that I saw there was like a two phase rollout for this. I think the two phase rollout was backers get theirs early, okay, and now it's on sale. I could have sworn they said they were going to latch. But you know, originally that this game was supposed to come out last year.
Maybe that's maybe they maybe they had slightly different plant. At one point, they ended up delaying it and putting the whole thing out. Uh, well, is there anyone left to work on it? I don't know. I don't know. The last the last person pushed the upload button and then turned the lights out. The only people. I mean, you know, maybe this says more about why it's like people are like, oh wait, the Amplitude is coming out. But you know, the people that say, hey,
a game is coming out are the people that have been leaving. Yeah. Yeah, there's still some people there in that role of course. But anyway, Uh but I did play a ton of Super Mario Make Yeah, every goddamn day. Yeah, they made like three levels. So how's the how's the web based stuff? What surprisingly awesome? What did what day? Did that stuff come out? Like that? Okay, it's great. Is there anything new in the game or is it all on on the website?
They did. They added three items to the game, three objects that you can put on like that ties into that web stuff sorting and whatnot sort of, so you can So there's a bookmarks button or there's a search button in the game now that actually bops out to the WEIU web browser and loads up the website that page. Yeah, well that's I mean, honestly, that's more than I thought they were going to do. Yeah, so I guess
that's something. It's weird that you have to kind of bop out to get there, but it works fine and automatically logs you in, can kind of manage you fine, Like it works like again, you know, again, maybe faint praise, but that's kind of more than ext picture. I thought you were gonna have to sit there with a laptop on your knee the whole time. You're no, but what it's been really nice so there and then also under the court and the courses section, there's a bookmarks button and when
you hit that, it returns every course you have bookmarked. And so what's been nice is like, let's say you're on some forum thread. We've got one on our forums. They're they're you know, there's a subreddit people out there talking about Super Mario Maker levels. They can just post links to that ship and you can just click that link, click bookmark and then move on the need to post codes anymore. In fact, the code is actually in
the URL right and got it that way if you want. Yeah, yeah, so it's been nice to like someone will say like, hey, I just made this level. Check it out and they'll send it to me and I'll go, oh shit, and I'll click on it and hit bookmark, and then you know, later on that day or something, I'll go play the stuff I bookmarked or something. It's well, it's it's also great because like you know, when whenever I made a level, I always really wanted
to see, you know, the comments I wanted. I definitely wanted to see the clear number and everything. Yeah, but you could see comments on the me verse thing if you went to that website before, but you could never see like the clear number or the percentage US. Now, you know, I don't have to have my game pad. I can be at work and just go to my like profile on Mario Maker bookmark or whatever, and it tells you all those stats and everything. Yeah, you can't get all
the stats for your levels right there, which is which is nice. The one thing you can't do is you can't delete bookmarks from the game, which you'd have to go out to the web browser and and do it there, which is like, after I clear a level, I'm done with it, you know. So it's like it'd be nice if there was just a button right there. That's just okay, good go delete it. I don't need
this anymore. But I think the interesting thing though, is that it's seemingly in conjunction with some of this stuff and the way that they're kind of tearing the difficulty. And maybe it's just, you know, because the game has been out a while or whatever, but like the levels you get served randomly just keep getting like better, Like the Expert tier difficulty used to just feed you ship there was just impossible, and you'll still run into that stuff here
and there. But I feel like I'm just getting more finishable levels in Expert, like more cleverly designed stuff, Like you're just seeing stuff you hadn't thought of it before, totally, Like yeah, I'm definitely like seeing stuff and getting ideas and like oh shit, yeah, yeah, it's good to hear people are sticking with it. Oh yeah, continuous, continuing to innovate.
Yeah. In the Mario levels, the Excite bike bike as costume, so they're still rolling out like they'll just add another row to the costume list and then roll out levels that unlock those costumes obtainable by anyone or is any of that stuff been held back behind, like I think the only back behind the Amibo is the Giant Mario with Yeah, we both bought that, didn't we? They sent me o. Yeah, that's I finally bought an Amibo thanks to that though. Is that the one? Is that the one you tweeted
a photo of? Is that the big block? Yeah? Pixel dle life like Pixel. Yeah, there's two of them. I bought the one with the modern colors, and then for Christmas, I just got a surprise gift from my sisters, so I got the other ones. So I guess I have two at Meibos. I thought about buying that thing just because it looked cool to have, like a three D version of the Pixel Mario. If that was just a neat object, even if it didn't do anything, but
that would that would be and spending money on me, right exactly. I have not done that to maintain my ideological purity over here, keep keep it clean. I keep looking at them though now, and they're not that expensive. They're not like Rega Man. It was the pac Man for me, but I have I have not caved, and I have not spent money on in Ambo. I'm surprised you want that pac Man though, because the pac Man in the game is just that weird like pac Man Adventures one or whatever.
It's not like classic Pat pac Man. If you run it's original. Oh, at full sprint, it turns into original. Okay, how far afield are they of Nintendo characters at this point? So, I's pac Man like Shovel Night, Mega Man, you said, Regaman Shovel Night Okay, okay, which is a really crazy thing to be in that game? Yeah? And is Bannetic gonna get one? Yeah? I assume you would get one at some point? Yeah, I think so. I think that is
that official? I forget Yeah, I watched a little bit of that most recent and then what you would expect that at some point Cloud would be in Supermarket. I was gonna say, it's almost it's almost just like a mirror of the Smash Brothers, like Guest Roster, right, Yes, because that's the only those are the only Guest amibos they've made so far. I've been characters that are non Nintendo amibos, have have been ones that have appeared in
Smash except for Shovel Night, Right. I guess it's it's nice and a weird way, even though it's like relatively minor thing, it's it's nice and a weird way to have a game that works that seems to work with every amibo. I can't say that for certain, but it seems like at least that that's their goal. So I don't know, that's kind of cool.
But you can unlock all that stuff I play in the game, but like some of the required I mean, you know, you have to play sixteen Expert levels and finish them with a hundred lives kind of over and over again to unlock some of those, because you get one costume per Clear, and it's like Sonic only shows up on Expert. Yeah, I'm trying to get all of it only shows up on Expert, you know. So it's like, didn't you say at some point it'll say, hey, you can't get
anymore from Easy. Does that take a while, Because like, I've gotten a ton cleared Easy eighteen twenty times more than that, wells, But also I cleared Normal a bunch too, and you can some of them unlock either from Easy or Normal, So I probably unlocked some of the Easies by playing Normal. Okay, So at this point, I think I've cleared Easy twenties times of cleared Normal thirty or forty and cleared expert once. So you made a bunch of levels over the break. I played most of them. They're
they're real hard. Yeah, well yeah, I've been making them easier. But you did some of that piece Witch stuff. Yeah, you've been talking about it mostly just making. When you sit down this game at this point, it's i'll bust out a level in like thirty five or something like that, or a couple hours. Do you start blank or do you go in with I'll start with one idea like that. The last level I made, I was watching you stream yourself making a level, which this thing fucking eat
its own tail. I was watching you make a level, and something that I saw while you were making the level there was not even a key part of your level. I was like, oh shit. And then I immediately went and made the thing to test to see if it would work the way I thought it would and be like, oh, that that's a really fucked up, weird thing to do. I'm gonna make a level around that.
And then that's some of the most fun stuff in that game, where it's like, I think we were talking about the exact same thing that the peace Witch thing. Yeah, and then I came to a realization when it like accidentally landed on a buzzy beetle and then it's like, oh shit, there's a whole thing you can do with that, Like, yeah, this is it's a good game. It's a versatility of that thing. I need to place more of that. It's uh yeah, it's sounds sounds like it has
gotten better. It definitely better. It definitely like and and basically the ways that I wished it was better to begin with totally. Yeah, it's stuff that you know, at launch was just super weird and you know, they still have the stuff in there where it takes you time to unlock all the objects, which is you know, it's well, yeah, that's not exactly. That was not for a reason that that was not for a deal breaker for me. It's not great, but it's it's not the worst thing in
the world. But yeah, it improven the sorting tools and stuff is is the thing that makes that thing work essentially, because if you can just click this button to open the website and click a bookmark thing and then not think about it right until you play the game next. I mean again, just being able to do it on the console is like a huge thing. Yeah, for sure, there's a lot of neat stuff out there. I mean it's like, you know, for all the fucking talk we've been doing,
I'm making like, oh, this level is so hard. Like there are people doing things that are just impost like you know, just they're like, would you just say there are levels out there harder than what you guys have doing. I want the vowels airspace. Yeah. Yeah YouTube that I mouth opened. Watch it's people doing shit where they're like they're throwing buzzy beetle shells
at trampolines that are on the wall and then jumping out. It has to it has to hit off the trampoline and then you on the rebound to get where you need to go and do it and and it's like that, but it doesn't stop. So it's this constant time pressure to it's like this like you know, two minute thing of just constant execution and if you fuck it
up once you're done. And I don't want to play those levels. I don't want to make those levels, but you look at them, you're like, fuck, that's awesome, man, I'm getting out of the super hard level game. I'm gonna make nice levels from that one. Yeah. I mean my first one with the checkpoint, the break just casual and yeah, there's a nice stroll in the park list freeze things a lot better make checkpoints,
you know, checkpoints are a nice quality of life feature. Yeah, yeah, it's uh yeah, I really want to see what they're gonna do with that game from here, like how far they take it. You know, they supported Platoon for a pretty long time this release with a lot of free stuff, and you know, they've they've patched this game a handful of
times, and sometimes it's insignificant. Sometimes it's just more costumes. But sometimes it's like, hey, here's three objects that didn't exist in previous Mario go nuts. Yeah, and like now they've kind of crossed that boundary of like hey, what if the clown car shot fire? It's like, well, fucking why stop there? Like you know, yeah, it's the it's the thing where I want. It's it's the thing I like got up to in
Minecraft and got scared and stopped playing Minecraft. Is the logic aspect of things. I wish that this game would get into build a functional computer totally, uh like or or like you know, you know, hey, you can make these walls disappear if you do this, you know, like like being able to open a door or affect a level in a logic based way, and they're like, you know, hey, you can turn on the conveyor belts by hitting this switch like stuff like that. I mean you can't do
that. Peace would just stop the conveyor belt, but they stop the I mean like hit a switch in a level to turn everything on, and then then then now these things are powered, you know, like like those sorts of ideas. I also want the disco ball that unless you have dark levels from Super Mario World that's not in there, that the angry son. No, Yes, I want keys, I want keys. I want secret exits.
Secret exits would be cool. I mean, you know, I'll go back to the thing I said it during Game of the Year, which is I wish they have like worlds, you know, whish you could package up a bunch of levels. I wish you could make your own world map, even to go from a level to level. Like I mean, I think you're probably the one that said, like you should be able to just fremake Super Mario World in this game, right, like that that's the ultimate endgame.
Yeah, I think that would be fucking crazy and awesome, and also like I think that the majority of the people playing the game wouldn't know what to do with those tools. Yeah, so it's one of those things where it's like, yeah, you could go that far, but they probably don't need to go quite that far. I wonder if they'll ever make it too, Like can you iterate on this beyond like like retching some some items into
it. I think that there's there's I think a sequel does do what we're talking about, right, Yeah, I guess, I guess what's not iterate? But justify can could you actually justify a package? I think Maria Maker sequel. I think a lot of that depends on if the NX runs we use software, which I think it's safe to assume that it does in some form. But are you just talking about like a change of platform, because then I don't see what's like what would be justified about calling that too just
by something that would be on another platform? Okay, Okay, yeah, that's you know, I think that that's a that's a big part of it. Yeah, I don't know, it's water jet pack, no, no work. I would just like, you know, they you know, they've they've already burned through all of the tile sets, for instance, So what if they did Super Mario Land the game board weird so that there's one of the costumes they have yet to unlock is Mario in the byplane from Super Mario
Land. He won't be able to fly, but it's just so they've introduced that music and some of the kind of stuff into the game with that costume. And I think that would be a cool thing. Like there's some enemies in that game that didn't appear anywhere else or didn't appear in in other Mario platformers, so you'd get some new objects that way. I'd be into it if they just let you use that monica and look top to bottom. Yeah,
I think that'd be awesome. I think some way to do boss fights that isn't just a thing in a clown car, you know, because there's no real boss thing is like like logic like tie this door unlocking when this enemy dies, you know, like like those sorts of things like that would be the leap. I think that would be the next big step. And so that's actually there's a there's someone out there trying to make an an unofficial Super Mario Maker project on the PC that is doing some of that stuff.
Oh, I saw that. I saw that. How long now that that's in the light of day, how long does that have? Less so that the person making it has taken it out of the light of day as quickly as possible and seems to be continuing. The statement seems to be like, I'm gonna keep working on this, but I'm not going to talk about it a lot. So it's like two years from now, it's just going to
appear. I don't know. Yeah, but it's that that game has stuff from like Super Mario Deluxe and like modes that you know appeared in obscure versions of the game and as the Game Boy Color version, and so you know that has stuff like hey, there are five red coins and when you collect them, it makes this These red blocks disappeared like in that thing. And if you think it's one of those things, you know, this is ridiculous.
But if you think about Super Mario Maker as a response to the kind of gray area ram hack scene and how that kind of blew up on YouTube and became much more visible than a rom hack normally would a response to this thing, if you if you take this thing is like like, let's say this is like the Street Fighter two Rainbow addition of Super Mario maker that this
this person's making off in a corner somewhere. Imagine if Nintendo came back over the top and said, oh yeah, oh that stuff, Okay, we'll take all that and then some like here's Champion addition, here's this, and you know, I'd love to see them continue to get weird with this thing and and continue to take it places, because it seems like that they've they've
showed a playfulness with this thing that they normally don't. You know. It's like you think about Mario's being this very staid like, hey, this is what Mario is. Fuck you. Yeah, you know occasionally they give m a water jet pack, and you know there's like there's the you know, occasional offshoot here and there. He's in a zillion sports games, So I mean, like games do you think of as like the cord to the Mario cannon or whatever, like Marley does what Mario does, Skinny Mario was that
for me? Yeah? As soon as I saw that, I was like, man, nothing is sacred anymore. It's like, but you play these Mario levels as the we balance board, right all right, tile right? Yeah, and you know, and hey, let's put in this big bouncy donut thing. Let's put in you know, pie switch doors and weird shit
that you know, like that they came up with after the fact. And you know, if they're willing to introduce new things to that game that haven't really existed in that form in any of the other Mario games, then they're kind of just saying, like, fuck it, let's come up with some stuff. And I would love to see them come up with, like, hey, here's like twenty more pieces that didn't exist in the old games, but they're gonna let you do weird shit to your levels now that you've kind
of mastered this tool set. I'd like to see something like in Mario World, they had those huge the colored piece switches in the over World. It's like, okay, you hit the blue one now in all those levels permanently and switch pals. You've got all these yeah blue things, or even just within a single level. Yeah, that'd be cool. Yeah, just like here's a bunch of outlined blue blocks, go fill them in somewhere so you
gotta get a stomp on this thing. Yeah, I think they get much milogy out of using those, uh, taking those tile sets from Super Mario All Stars, like the the gussied up like the sixteen be versions of those original Like is that really worth it? Like I'm just trying to think of other visuals, right, because like I think it would be cool for that stuff to be in there. Yeah, but what about like a Mario two tiles set to where it looks like Mario. That's that's the dream, Like
that that would be my ultimate dream. But I just it seems like they're they're just different games, right, They're just they're just trying their best to pretend that doesn't fit in. But but I think it's like that's the thing though, is is it kind of doesn't like, you know, anythink about
mechanics of of that game. It's actually one of the event courses. So you can unlock Birdo as a costume, and they remade the first level of Super Mario two man in Super Mario one and you can even do the like jump over, you know, the shortcut thing is in there, and you know they replaced the like the ninjis with like other bouncing you know, it's like they've they've found ways to like recall that level, yeah, which is which is kind of cool, but you know, it's it's it'd be the
mechanics of that thing are so different when you know, with picking up vegetables and throwing them at things. It's just the movement and all that other stuff that, like Mario two is a weird fit you could shove. You could
shove the traditional mechanics into this. Yeah, I think I think they I think it would be awesome, But I think that's it's it's a larger undertaking that I think that would be the sort of thing you would do in a sequel, because now it's like, oh, now we have vegetable based gameplay, which is exactly how I would bullet point it on the cell sheet for the second game. Vegetable based gameplay. Okay, and then how about like world map vegetable based gameplay? All right? Custom music? How about this
not a super Mario Maker two super Mario two maker? Yeah? All right, okay, yeah, I can sign me up. Make it so I kill a boss with its own eggs, and then a weird falcon head opens up, but then sometimes the falcon head attacks you. Yeah, and then you play a slot machine I want to shake. I want to pick up the falcon head and shake it to make an angry falcon head will attack me, and then it's awesome. It is it really, it's a really good
game. I want a boss fight. Word there's an organ playing and shooting vegetables out of it. Now make the bag. I eat vegetables until he dies. Hey, that gives awesome. Did you go back in your own levels? No, I'm just curious. No. Once I get him uploaded, I never want to see those again. That's why if I have to
re upload them, it's just the worst thing in the way. Mine are not crazy like his are, but all occasionally, especially if like if I haven't made a level in a little while, I'll be like, okay, what have I done? Like what you know? Okay, kind of go back through a little bit. Yeah. I love just being done and never
going back. Although I went back to some of my earlier ones before I got I turned into a total maniac with him, and it's like, okay, yeah, I remember this, that's fine, Like my first level, God, this is so quaint. Yeah, times I think things were so much simpler then. Yeah, this is the age of innocence. It's true. Uh Dan play anything that wasn't Maria Maker. Yeah, I dabbled with a bunch of stuff real quick. I played levers in the danger space to go up there. It's fun, it's cool. Yeah, I want to
try that. What do you do in that game? You fly ships? People? You have like a ship stab a guy, no stabbing. You're in space. Okay, you have to collect bunny rabbits and space to unlock. Like a portal turns into a heart and you go to the next stage. But like I was playing co up with my girlfriend, and so you got the ship with a bunch of different nodes and like, okay, this one controls the shield, this one, you know, there are four different
turrets that you can power up. One of them's the engine. So like I'll be like, hey, Bianca, you get on the engine. You know, I'll handle the shields, and then if it gets to a combat situation, she'll run to a turret or something and I'll man the shields. You know. Like it's lots of running around and like oay, go up the ladder now, you know, let's get out of here. Let's you
know, let's put this gym into this turret. To make it stronger and just kind of look at the map and figure out where you can find these bunnies to get out of the level and risk verse rewards stuff like if you get more bunnies or more gems, you can level up your ship more and that helps you in your overall run. But yeah, it's kind of fun. We didn't play a whole lot of it, played a few levels, and it seemed pretty cool from one I keep hearing about the multiplayer aspects.
Is there any single player components or handled I looked back at some old reviews just to see how it was received, and people said the AI was pretty good. So when you're playing solo, it's it's it's pretty good from what I've heard. But I just played co op, so that was fun. It's only go up to two players. Yes, as far as I could tell, it was just two people, and uh yeah, I had a fun time with that. Mario Maker obviously we already talked about that. Kept
playing some Steam World. Yes, I actually yes, that is the one thing I probably in terms of new games, not that there are a lot, that's the one thing I put a bunch of time into. Good game it. Man, that's a really good game. Yeah, it's fun. Yeah, it's it's ExCom fun. Yeah, like it's it's turn based strategy,
but like super easy to get into with aiming and stuff. Yeah, there's also Yeah, there's a skill component to it as opposed to just like, hey, you've got a sixty sixty percent chance to hit this guy like Worms, but X calm kinda yeah, yeah, sure, like banking shots and stuff like that, shots off the ceiling and stuff. Yeah, and you'll have some stuff that's like an explosive and you have to kind of arc it. So yeah, it's got kind of a Worms two D thing going
on there. A lot of the most of the guns don't have laser sights on them, so it's a lot of just eyeballing your aim trying to make sure you're getting a head shot. Nice. Uh, it's did you finish it? I know, I'm still working on it, Okay. Like looking at the number of stars you can get, it seemed like it might be a little short. Are you just in that main early area? Oh wait, is that not the total number? Yeah, because it'll tell you like, oh, you know, x out of forty four stars. That's just
for that opening. That's just oh wow, yeah, okay, never mind, I thought that was the whole game. Oh no, no, okay, I don't know how many areas there are. Wow, Like I've put a lot of hours into it, Okay, just it just went from a very short game to a very long game, which you know, I go back and replay a lot of levels just to get more loot and stuff like that, and it's very replayable. I really really enjoy that. Have you found uh? I feel like I should just be min maxing three characters though,
as opposed to switching around a lot. I've kind of switched them around because like you'll have one guy that's really good at melee or whatever, and you'll have your sharpshooters that have the laser sights. And I've bounced around a lot. I like kind of leveling up everyone. What sort of connection do you see between SteamWorld Heist and Steam World dig is that visual stole visual?
It's actually even more specific than that. There are like shared sound effects and stuff like there's it's actually a super cohesive feel to it, you know, like just menu design sound effects, like even the way they like weird cynthy robot voices sound. Yeah, I Dug Dig Yeah, yes, yes, Dig did you Yes, no, I'm no ties of yes, Steamwold.
I actually actually finished Steam Rol I had. I had a save like a month's old Steam World Dig save on my Vida that I finished on the flight home and then immediately whipped out my three s and start playing Heists after a finished Dig. Those are great games, and I love that they have this like shared world, but they're making totally different types of games. Yeah, it's cool and they're both really good. Yeah, both both great games,
but different styles completely. Yeah, so play some of that on the commute. Also dinked around a bit with they've got those PS two games on PS four now, so I played some Perapa two and that's when I'm I played a little Papa two as well. It brought me back to being bummed out by that game when it came out, because I remember, like Perappa one was around the time where you could spend fifty dollars and get perapp one and
be like, yeah, that was that's a good game. But then by the time the two came out on PS two, it's like, yeah, that was a couple of hours of game play. Yeah, And also like Chop Top Master Running stage isn't nearly as good, and but the one stage where they the it's the I guess think it's the it's the final stage before the final stage where all of them come back and play, and it's like like the kind of computer re versions of all of the levels. You've already
played the Ghost Grandpa that makes Burgers. Yeah, yeah, it's been a while since I beat it. Yeah, I remember liking that level a lot. Anyway. Yeah, the timing windows stuff didn't seem great on that, no, no, yeah, yeah, I had trouble with that. I just played like two or three levels of that. Didn't played a little bit. Cdtvs. They ruined old rhythm games. Yeah, and it's pretty much,
but also there's not that great to begin with. It's not but it's weird that they're rereleasing that thing, and it's like kind of not great. I guess on some levels, like well it's ten bucks, but at the same time, yeah, I don't know. Yeah, Twist mettal Black played some of that look though, because there's some upscaling going on. I thought they looked good and PS two games looked sharp. Yeah, I thought they looked really good. I want to play Perappo, which is hard to tell
what that one is because yeah, style is so specific to it. Fist Metal is harder than I remember being because I remember playing through that with every character back then, and like here, it's like, holy shit, like I'm dying pretty frequently in that game. It feels this way looser than I remember it feeling. But then the main thing that I've been playing in the last few days and getting really excited about all over again is Splatoon. I
just loaded it up. I don't remember what spurred that on, but you know, I hadn't played a lot of the new maps, the new modes, new Rainmaker, Ranked mode and everything, and it had been so long that I go into the gear thing and Sheldon or whatever, the gun peddling, you know, shell, Hermit crab or whatever. It's just so much of hitting a through like, oh, by the way, you can also use this, Oh here's this paintbucket you can use. Oh, here's this
hydroub laster thing here. So just tons of new weapons and stuff and testing all those out. And I think it was when we were doing our Game of the Year stuff and we were playing the music and I was like, oh, yeah, yeah, I remember some really good association. So this put out a soundtrack to Splatoon in Japan and called it splut Tune good good good stuff is great. But yeah, I thought back to like how good just the name Splatoon was for that game. Yep, it's got cartoon platoon
splatting, but lots of different things. Back for my spell check, right as I was writing things about Splatoon during Game of the Year one T two, ohs, well, it kept just correcting it to Platoon. Yeah, and I almost left it picture of Charlie Sheen. It turns out that game is still super fun. I had not played that in in a few months, and man, im I'll probably play some tonight. It's just a joyous
game. On the multiplayer stuff forwards, okay, you know, I kind of want to go back, and because I never beat that single player stuff, and and now that I have like a Splatoon ambo uh you know, I put it on there, I might try some of that stuff. Although it's just like try this level but with the role levels. Yeah. Yeah, it's played the same levels but with a different weapon. It's not great. Yeah, but the new Rainmaker mode is pretty cool. I like that.
I don't know if you've seen that at all with the like Golden weapon, like push it to enemy territory as much as you can. But yeah, the new levels, I hadn't played on that like art museum level or that one like resort. Uh man. Yeah, that game is just awesome, really really good. I remember when it first came out and we did that bomb cast and we were all really really up on it. Yeah, and I think you know, some of us played for for a month or
so, but I think we all pretty much fell off. But going back to it felt great, no trouble getting into the games. Vibrant community is super active, Like I'm sure that got a lift from kind of just Christmas Presents, so they did a lot of pack ends and stuff in Japan also, so it's but nice to hear people are still playing it. Oh yeah, super easy to get into stuff. So yeah, it's just a great
game, still excellent. Uh Jason, Yo, Hey, have any time amidst all the parenting and a lot of time to play because there was a lot of sick times. Oh yeah, okay, but usually on like long breaks like this, I try and take a bit of a sabbatical from the games. Yeah, a little bit like, I didn't want to get to you Hetty with anything, so probably healthy. Continue to play a lot of Rocket League. Of course, that game is fucking fantastic. Shou ever get
the platinum? Uh? Yeah I did? What's that my first platinum? I think it may have been yeah, yeah, wow wow, Dedication Man right there, But no other than other than that. The Humble bundle released like a comic book bundle, so I spent a lot of time with, like rereading some of that stuff. There's one comic in particular called Irredeemable, which is basically if Superman said, hey, fuck you guys, I'm sick of you're fucking shit. You don't appreciate a goddamn thing. I'm gonna start
destroying cities. Yes he should, Yes, Look that is Irredeemable. Isn't that that one Superman movie where he grew the stubble? Oh he supposed to night and Split in two and grew the stubble with the Reeves. That's what it's based off of, I'm sure. But yeah, there's like a Justice League an analog and stuff, and they've got to try and stop them, and it's more relationship based than anything else. Not your typical like it's Superhero
comic comic. But yeah, I read through like all ten volumes of that. Wow, really really, what's uh? What are they? What? Exactly what format are they selling? Is it like a code that goes into like some service or are they just like direct downloads from a Humble Bundle site in various formats? Yeah? Is there like a comic equivalent of DRM free basically? Yeah? Yeah, all of those are DRM free, So it's
just a file. I've got a reader called like a Chunky reader on my iPad, and you could actually log into the Humble Bundle site and download those directly to your device, like it was a completely seamless process. Yeah, that's great. So does everybody just read comic sante of tablet these days? That's the best way for me to do it, does it? Yeah? I used to, you know, buy a lot of you don't need any backing boards, no PVC free plastics, acid paper, acid free backing boards.
But yeah. Other than that, just a little bit of a Dragons Dogma, which is coming out on PC soon. I don't think we can talk too much about that yet. I think Austin's going to be doing a quick look out there hopefully Other than that. Yeah, that's that's about it. I forgot my damn three DS at work, so I couldn't play steam World. That sucked. Forgot to mention. I started the first Dark Souls. Oh yeah, that games good. God, I can't wait to invade
you. Pretty good. I haven't been invaded yet. I had summoned a guy. It was nice. I didn't know about the DS fixed thing, so, like, I wanted to go in totally blind because I beat Bloodborn and thoroughly enjoyed that. I think it was like my number five game of the year. I played a bit of Dark Souls too, but I never liked the thing about like dying and then it like capped your health things, so I didn't know that wasn't in Dark Souls one. I went in pretty
blind and uh yeah, not knowing about DSFix. Like I was streaming in the whole chaps up up in arms that I wasn't using DSFix A. Sorry, yeah, I had no idea about this thing. Don't worry. That's if you're streaming Dark Souls, you will have multiple times of people up in arms about some fucking thing you're doing. Oh. The other thing is if you summon. If you summon other people into your game, people don't like that at all. But did you summon for I just I didn't know.
I didn't know it was fourth thing. I guess it was the tourist demon or whatever. But then the guy didn't even wind up doing anything. That's the very Oh oh it was just an NPC. No, it was a dude, but he just stood around and like taunted and stuff like. I think I actually killed the dam in my first time. Okay, but that
ds fix it turns out, actually helps it looks way better. I heard it screw stuff up with like the frame rate cap stuff like jump start based on because the physics simulation is weird, is tied to the frame rate somehow. But like I I very rarely. I think, like sliding down ladders will occasionally cause a problem, but you can you can just hit backspace to toggle back to thirty. I heard that have a problem. That's a default thing with d S fix. Yeah, cool, I might have to do
that. But yeah, I thought it was gonna be one of those things where it's like, oh, let's see what the first one's like and I'll you know, play for an hour or whatever. But I like it a
lot. I think I'm gonna keep playing it. I'm really curious, so I mean, you can speak to this as you continue to play it, like what it would be like to play that one after having played literally all of the others, as opposed to like I think most most oh, okay, you haven't played no, but I'd played Dark put like maybe twenty five hours into Dark Souls two and I'd beat Bloodbarning. I think Dark Souls one was probably the entry point for the most people, like it was for me
for sure. I saw a lot of people said it's it's their favorite one, so so coming to that fresh like not really understanding like what that's what, like what the spirit of that series is and what you can get away with and like kind of just what the ends now sare as opposed to like kind of understanding all that stuff from having played the other games. I can't imagine going and totally blind because like I hadn't played this game or read about
it, but I'm playing Blood Born and stuff. I get how combat and just the gist of the game works. I can't imagine going in blind. It was rough, but it's it's super good. I mean, it holds up. Well, I mean, what, it's four or five years old at this point. Twelve. Yeah, yeah, it's a it's a lot of fun. Yeah, how from where are you now? Oh? God, I beat the tourist team in I just killed a black night. I went to a bridge and a big old dragon came down and killed a bunch
of dudes. Okay, yeah, so I'm right around there. Okay, Okay, that's pretty early owned. Oh yeah, but there's still tons of stuff I gotta learn still, you know, stuff like I don't know how kindling works are becoming reversing, hollowing and all that stuff. Every one of those games has its own weird mechanics. Yeah, like that have a shield again after blood Born? Yeah, yeah, it's a it's a good game. I'm surprised at how much I've really enjoyed all the time I've spent playing
that series. They patched all the games for one of his live stuff out of that, right, you even had. I haven't messed with it since they took a lot of stuff out. Yeah, none of that. That's good. Yeah, great game, all right? How about you? Bred? Uh that's kind of I mean I poked it fall Out four like at least half a dozen different times for maybe thirty to forty five minutes each.
I guess I'll keep playing it. Yeah, at some point I did some poking into Metal Gear Solid five The Phantom Pain on PC, which I played it on PS four, but decided I wanted to like, I wanted to run around and fuck shit up basically, and and it seemed like starting a new game was actually probably the worst way to do that, because I got
to crawl around a fucking hospital for like forty minutes first. Actually having done that sequence a handful of times, now, yeah, it's not that long, but it's still longer than it needed, longer than it needed to be. And then I downloaded a cheat engine script which lets you do some real weird shit, like you can change his run speed, so I changed it to times five, and he's faster than a skull. He's like, yeah,
it's fucking nuts, and he walks at normal speed. So it's just as soon as you click in the stick, he's just fucking gone faster than a horse. It's it's hilarious, it is, but that's it's it's awesome because it's hilarious. Uh, and you know you can research stuff immediately you can. I'm surprised that you can't just like hit a button and give yourself everything. Yeah, that's you know, the game isn't quite there's some stuff
that seems like you can do that with a little bit. But you can like edit the stats on your soldiers to be like I want an electro spinning guy right now, ten hours before I need him. Just give it to me, fuck you, and you can have it. So it's it's neat. I mean, obviously it's not the way to play through that game the first time, I think, but but going back to it and just wanting to just kill shit, being able to be completely invisible or you know,
at the drop of a dime. Actually it's not invisible. It's what is it. It's whatever the hack is that they that they have. It's it makes the guys start cracking up, like there's some item is like is there
like the decoy items that make them laugh or is there a gas? I can't tell if they're laughing or coughing, but they're just kind of like they kind of double over or just kind of lay their head back, or it's like they're freaking out a little bit and they just will, and so it's just all the troops in a base to start doing that, and you're like, well, okay, and then you just gun them all down. I mean, that's not fun. So I'm only just fucking around with that here
and there. But it's only fun when they activate and then you're invincible and you have set your gun to no recoil and rapid fires, so it just fires it like a thousand times the normal speed. So it's just like riot SMG, like pinpoint precisions, going as like fast as it possibly can, and you're just like, all right, this is dumb. How easy it would it be if I use Because I played on PC, so I've got my one hundred plus hour file that like, I'm not really playing anymore.
I would love to just apply it to that and go around and suck up basic You can totally do then, so it I mean, yeah, what, I don't care though it would make changes to your save and you know, if you're playing online, something weird might happen there with their server stuff.
So you know, I've I've been disconnecting from the online even though like I'm not up to the fob point in the game, so I don't really know what that would do, but it's I don't know, it's weird with an online game like that because like theoretically you could use it to cheat and create a big fob base before you'd normally be able to or or build it up big, you know, for free. So there's some weird stuff around
that. But I don't know, it's fun to like, you know, if you my favorite times with that game, where when it was just a big dumb sandbox and just having a few more buttons to press you make the sandbox dumber, was was pretty cool. That sounds great. Yeah, yeah, and you can you can set the ratio that's the speed on the running. I said to five, you just double double click a thing and then punching a number. I punched in five. I was like, that seems
like enough. You should see, Yes, you could probably put in five hundred. You should see if you can outstrip the game's ability to stream in the world. Just run it at fifty or something to see if you could run across all of Afghanistan in like twenty seconds or something and just see what happens, turn around and let it all low. You know, we should do that. We should do that here? Yeah, perhaps that I want to see that. It's NAT's Nat. I heard a lot of chatter online
about a hot new idler. Yeah, yeah, the twitch idler. Yeah. I'm hearing some folks talk about that. I went in there. I should have probably not done this. So I had this idea and instead of like keeping the idea to myself and then becoming a multi millionaire, I just typed it into Twitter and hit go. I said, wouldn't they someone should make an idol game that increments based on viewers in twitch? Oh wait,
you weren't running that? Oh see everyone that I was seeing was saying that, like it was your stream Nope, because yeah, I started streaming there. Oh you're competing with Jeff's twitch idler. And I was like, what did he build a thing? Oh? I thought you would built the Oh this thing is. I don't want to take any credit for his name's Andrew. I had someone. So then twenty minutes later I get a response on Twitter that says, you mean like this, Like, well, fuck,
so he built it based on your tweet? Yeah? Uh? And then now over time it has been like additional features have been added so every user can type, upgrade once an hour to upgrade a numbers factory. It's based on numbers and then number of messages, so the room was in slow mode to keep people from spamming too hard. And then people that follow the channel that makes the numbers go higher. Man say, I talk about a laptop
here, and see what's what's changed since then? Because there was a timer and then a picture of a cookie appeared and there was a basketball on the screen for a while. I don't know what the fuck's going on. I have nothing to do with this any longer. People were under the impression that you created this. I wish that seems like something that like maybe if I was like a little more patient, maybe I could have made some part of it. I was impressed for a second. I was like, I don't
know how he did that. It's a it's scripts and math, it's web servers and sockets and I don't know, sockets, probably sockets, probably sockets. You guys ever play any of the Arkham Knight DLC. No. I heard it was terrible. I just kept hearing it was bad. Yeah. I tried poking at that a little bit over the break end. YEP. Seriously, I made it like ten minutes into each of those really like, yeah, so rentegrade for me? Yeah, I looked out. But that's
a shame, all right, So I can report in here. There are currently seventy nine people watching the twitch idler, which that's the name of the account, twitch Idler. It has a thousand and sixty four follows twelve thousand messages. The multipliers about fifty five. The number factory is a level sixteen forty six. I'm gonna type upgrade here. Does it have to be all caps's exclamation point upgrade? You don't have to earn any currency before you upgrade?
No, if every user can only do it once an hour. And the number is currently at four hundred and eighty eight million, you know that's a pretty high number. It keeps it's it's look, I mean, it's could be high. Okay, oh wait, it's a different layout than I said. There's no cookie anymore. Yeah, the cookie's gone. And now see the version is updated. It was originally like twitch idler three thousand, early access alpha and now it's a version six point eight six D. So
put in some work. Numbers going up, yeah, and then there's some science here. More numbers equals viewers times follows divided by one hundred plus messages divided by a thousand plus factories divided by fifty. So that's dumb. That's a nightmare. And there were like a thousand people in there at one point. Thankfully, it seems to have died down. Uh. Yeah, I actually have a lot of really bad ideas about what I would do to this
thing things gott Graham over the holiday, I see the holiday. This was fucking yes, I was still technically part of the break, I guess, so yeah, I'll take this away from me. All Right, Well, I'm glad we all got a little bit of time with some games. It seems like we've all got some stuff to continue messing with before stuff starts coming out again, which is always a good thing. All Right, believe it or not. On the fifth January, there is news to talk about.
Okay, do you believe it? No? Okay, well I don't care at all. Like I said, I believe it or not, we're gonna go right into the stuff anyway. Headline the first news stories. Yep, I've been busy over the holiday. Within twenty four hours of you hearing this or less, or maybe it's already happened by now, if you were a few days later on this podcast, Oculus Riff pre orders will have the gun, right, Yeah, but as of this recording, we still don't know
how much it costs. That's really crazy. They came out Monday morning saying, hey, two days hence, forty eight hours from now Wednesday morning, pre orders will go up all major retailers at your game stops. They neglection j Bennys, Yeah right, yes, the Sears, Amazons hit the Sears. I'm gonna go to Woolworth's, go put your five dollars down because nobody actually knows what this thing is going to cost, which of course led to
rampant speculation. Sure this morning that it is higher than you might like, Oh, I'm sure, which seems like something they've been hitting at more and more. Yeah, they've they've been saying like, hey, this stuff is expensive. I don't know if you saw Palmer Lucky on Twitter a few weeks ago. I think it was some time last month, you know what I'm
talking about. I wasn't able to find his specific tweets, but he there was kind of a chain of tweets out of him implying, Hey, this thing is gonna be pricey, yeah, like even us selling it at costs with all the things that they've we've upgraded, because you know, they what
were the two development kits were? Like what three? Like? Like not only were they selling those things as cheap as they possibly could just to get them into developer's hands, which they needed to do, but like he was kept stressing like it picked on a lot of stuff to this and upgraded a lot of parts since those things. So you know, people are thrown around, you know, like five hundred at the low end up to six seven hundred, a thousand, seven ninety nine. I was gonna say, I
was gonna say five ninety nine. Sure, Yeah, I could easily say at this point, I could easily see that happening. Uh, twenty thousand dollars. Let's see parsing this story here for anything? What was it they said a while back? So you know, the fifteen hundred dollars figure has been going around for a while, the which one fifteen hundred dollars for the kit andy PC that will run it. Oh, it's kind of what Oculus has been saying since last year. So kind of you know, draw your
own conclusions from that, Yeah, I guess. But if that if that PC also has to include a monitor and all this other stuff, that's a shitty PC. Yeah, but I'm assuming that that's the power of the R man. You don't need to monitor, monitor your entire life. Nope, in this thing, I've got a word process in here, jack in fucking type some ship. Yeah. I don't know how you guys feel about this, Like what what would you pay to buy into the first gin Oculus rift?
Really? I like Oculus a lot. I mean, it's a good time to buy Dan. Let me tell you you were kidding. Of course. We literally just came off the discussion about you impulse buying that doesn't really have a lot of purpose yet. I mean, that's them. My big concern about this stuff is like you might get the headset and then kind of sit there going okay out what like once you've burned through all the tech demos and stuff. I mean, I guess you know they are. Oculus is
out there trying to sign some games and stuff. So it's gonna come with was it Lucky's Tail? Yeah? Is that the Mario? Is that Mario sixty four? That's fine? I played, yeah, and I saw if you if you pre order it, you're also gonna get Eve Valkyrie right with it. Okay, Eve Valkyrie seems like a smarter pack in because Platformer does
not seem like, I mean, it was fine. They've got to have something that's you know, probably yes rbat, you know, but at least First Platformer is a little more uh just kind of mass market, I think than Space even even an Arcades. Then the thing mass market about the Oculus though, that's maybe the part about it. Maybe they just would like, you know, no one's gonna actually buy that game because the only people buying the rift are fucking weirdo crazy people that just want to go to space forever.
So yeah, how much would you would you pay? I would I would probably pay about six hundred, I guess. God, I don't know, Like yeah, if if if I were in for one, I would probably go about that high. But again, I would like to I would like to own one, but I don't know what I will do with it. And also like I just I don't know if I'm ready to cast my lot with any one company yet, you know, like yeah, same, Yeah, there's a lot of competition out there, and this is still kind
of first gin. Yeah, I don't know if I want to be an early adopter of VR. That's the thing I worry about because I'm gonna buy the first real one that comes out for sure, Like I don't count that Samsung Gear VR thing. So like between Steam and PlayStation VR and Oculus, I will buy the first one for sure, But I'm gonna hate it if I buy the Steam one and then Oculus is better and I have to spend or whatever. The Steam VR stuff is relatively open. It seems like that
that anything that supports steams VR platform may work on a rift. I thought I saw some people claiming that that seemed to be the case, but I don't know for sure. That hardware seemed pretty good. Yeah, but they're so They're also they're pushing back the Oculus Touch controllers the other half of the story, which seems nuts to me, because that's the thing I feel like
that all the recent demos have leaned on. Yeah, but if you think about it, and I think this is maybe was part of what Palmer Lucky was saying on Twitter. It was like that stuff a little further down the pipe for people, like they should probably like the stuff that's gonna require people to devote a room to it, that people are gonna have to be up and moving around doing all this stuff is crazy town, Like, that's not that's not realistic for a lot of people right now. Do you think those
controllers don't make sense if you're just sitting in a chair. I think they can. But I think on the feats, you know, the demos have been very much on the feet. But I think in terms of just like movement demos and a lot of the stuff that you know, we've saw with a vibe, I think that that is like a far flung future on top of a far flung future right now, because that's a lot of space that
people don't have, plus student worth. Remembering they're packing an Xbox one controller in with the rift, right, so they're kind of casting their games. Yeah, yeah, like, yes, Star Citizen can't game out today. I think and said like we're we're gonna push in favor of the R which
I guess means another nine years of development or something. So yeah, you know, I think they have to get off the ground with something that is a little more reasonable, and something that is a little easier to wrap your head around, and and something that is not affordable, but at least like a little closer to it, Yeah, and saying like, hey, you need these two touch controllers and the goggles to do the things, and also a ton of space in your house to set up, you know, so
that everything can see each other. No one has that. Yes, Yeah, if they're if they're sweating the sticker shock, which reading between the lines of what they're saying, it seems like they might be a little bit. I don't know that they're sweating it more than as so much as they are, just like they're gonna put this thing out here big because it's someone has to and it's not going to be some big mainstream success. It's not gonna take the world by a storm day one. They have to be in this
for the long haul. They have to they have to be married to VR for a good long time. As the technology improves, as the prices come down, Like, you know, the first rift is not going to be the thing that's going to sell a trillion cop you know, you like headsets, it'll be the third. Yet I wonder how fast they iterate on this stuff. Yeah, like did you get a new headset every year? But maybe it's the same headset, but they figured out ways to make it more
efficiently. I mean, you know that as the screen projects go down, you know, it's like they'll start to see some savings eventually. Maybe they're not necessarily like bumping the screen resolution every year or anything crazy like that. Or you know, maybe it's like, hey, we've figured out a better way to do audio. You know, hey, we figured out better way to do this. Or when the touch controllers come out, then it's like, okay, well we've got this bundle that does this, or you know,
there's stuff they could do around it. The Rift. The Rift ended up with built in headphones, right, isn't that where the production model is at? I think so it seems like a weird direction to go for, like, you know, people, maybe not, I don't know, Maybe I shouldn't speak if I don't know for sure, but yeah, is there
any chance of them selling it to blow cost? I think that was part of what Paula Lucky was tweeting about a few weeks ago, was that he mentioned something about selling an ad costs at cost, which is probably the best they could get away with, I would assume, because you know, they just want to get it out there in the people's hands and a better way to do it than trying to sell it a huge problem, like you know
what's there? You know, they showed us the Oculus store. He you know, a VR store for buying games, Like what how are you going to get games? How much of the game's gonna cost you buying them off Steam? Also? Or do they well they work across the board like you know, what are what are you doing? Yeah? I just so much of their stuff is based on them building their own things and getting their own
things out there and curating that stuff. And I feel like that that part of it seems a little half baked or not maybe not half baked, but they just haven't really talked a lot about it. Having a VR shop would be pretty fucking cool. Yeah, should be. It should just be like like a virtual pawn shop. You just like walk around it and pick up
the games and like look at them. And there was like the Doda shop thing that you did right on the Viva viv Vibe decided that it's Vibe officially Vibe okay, oh and the yeah and then Chet from Chet from Valveal is also on Twitter today kind of like sort of talking a big game about what they're doing at CS. I mean nothing, you know, it's not like they have any giant reveal and waiting in the wings or anything. But like
then we'll see. He didn't necessarily sound like that, but but it was very much like a like, you know, we were kind of sitting on our secrets last year at this time, and this year it's going to be very different as thees for us. So of course you know they're out also in spring. I can't it's very hard to keep track of all the shifting release windows, and like, all right they shipped, they were shipping a small number of units developers right and right by April I think is when it's
going out wide. Yeah, yeah, so all this stuff should be out by summer. Right, Yeah, sure, here we go, assuming nothing slips, playing time, get cooped up, hide inside? Yeah why wait man? Yeah? Clear a room out. Yeah. I had like a foot of space between my goddamn coffee table and my team. I've got a clear room. It's still not as big as the areas they were demoing Vibe
Games in. Yeah, you know, I've got a it's a bedroom that with nothing in it that I'm like gonna turn into a home office one of these days, as seem as I can get the smell out and fucking I don't know's it's I can't play vive games that room. I have a pretty empty kitchen, but there's a lot of mouse traps there and that seems like a bad combination. Yeah, you probably don't want to. It's just like enhancing the reality of if you want to use VR in a room with a
bunch of sharp box Yeah, that's true me. You know, I mentioned it before, I used the Vibe in like a relatively like sort of cluttered but otherwise normal size home office and it was just nowhere near big enough or even the demos that they had on it. Yeah, so we will see. It's a lot of a lot of questions to be answered that can't really be answered until that stuff's all out. Yeah, it's just crazy that it's
all so soon and that this stuff still seems like it's dogging it. But maybe at some point it's like, well, you know, they have to get it out there and start selling it so that people make more content, so these problems start to get addressed. Yeah, Like it was probably like a new technology. This radical was probably never going to be ready a smooth launch. You know, it was never gonna like just just very easily kind
of slide its way out into the world. I don't know. I don't know if I get one, I I yeah, I'm like, I'm I'm very much kind of like, I'm sure we'll have one in the office here from definitely like one. But I think in terms of like adopting at home, I'm kind of comfortable just waiting and seeing how things check out. I think about the way I'm playing games at home these days, and it's not
something where I can disappear for hours at a time into the void. I'm sure my baby would love it. Yeah, just put the on the baby by yeah, by him one, two, and then everything will be fine. You feel like one of those parents that, oh, I guess it's too late now, but you know, he'd be one of those parents that teaches their kid cling on. But instead of that, it's like, well,
we're raising our kid in virtual reality space. Yeah. Yeah, virtual breastfeed first, first, virtual child blaze, a trail with this stuff the kids. Yes, Assassin's Creed go on. Perhaps you've heard of it every year for how many years? Quite a few what is it here? Ten nine games and eight years, I believe is the figure something like that? Remember when everyone thought Prince of Persia was going to be the big thing that ubisof kept making forever. It kind of was for a little while. It
was for a little while. I mean, It's Assins Creed is basically that with killing dudes. Yeah so you kind of well, yeah, but you mainly killed yourself in Prince pretty sure? Could you die in print? The second one, I never mind, were you're within yeah? Then god smack, weren't you kind of and then yeah, you're right, okay the first one, weren't you always just kind of rewinding time into spikes and then it'd be like, oh that's not how it happened and rewind Yeah. Yeah,
it's awesome. It's pretty good. Yes, they've made a lot of Assassins Creed games. There is a heavy rumor floating around today, reported by multiple sites and four Chances No, but this this Kataki story I pulled said that they've also corroborated this. This is where you go if you if you want the Assassin's Creed news ten months before Ubisoft wants you to have it, go to Katami. Yep. Pretty what do they got to lose? Uh? The yeah, the rumor is that, uh, most profoundly, that there
will not be a new Assassins Creed game this year. Fuck you? Like that is the thing. No, I was all ready to believe whatever you told me, and then you told me complete bullshit. I'll tell you the rest of it. It's supposedly codenamed Empire, uh and supposedly set in ancient Egypt, which sounds really cool. That actually does sound like but but like fucking far and away. The biggest piece of news here is that they're going to skip a year, which like great, like yeah, they need to,
like they need some time off. I finally started playing Syndicate over the last couple of days, and like, that's a really solid game. I mean really enjoying it so far. And I don't even downloaded Origin and reinstalled it over the break, but I couldn't find any games. God damn it. Assassin's Creed Syndicate is pretty good. Also, Yeah, I don't even have the grappling hook yet and I'm really enjoying it. But like Alex put
it really syscinctily like it. They got the franchise back on the rails like they made a good game, but it is just another Assassin's Creed game, you know, like with you know, the kind of the expected little iterative improvements. So the idea that that franchise could take an entire yet like a gould God, like a whole two years, what could it mean? Yeah, like what could they do to it in that time? You know,
that's literally twice as long as four players multiplayer Cocaine Adventure. Okay, that'll be the new ub Soft dare. I don't know, can you can you like get to the top of pyramid and look around and then slide down it, slide into the bail is slide into the bail. Hey, that's the US with two years to get the sliding animation just so and then the real lie, the real world sequences. You're doing it. But it's the Luxer Okay, all right? And David Blaine or someone who's done there, Chris
Angel has probably done that. Every time I've been near the Luxer, I think, man, I would like to slide Luxer. That first slick you probably die, But there's got to be a way to make that safe, right man? Maybe? Yeah? Anyway, those are those are the kind
of the big three bullet points about this rumors ancient agypt Uh. It's called Empire, and it's coming out next year or yes, next year now now that is twenty sixteen, I can say next year, but roughly two years from now, huh, which I think would be welcome departure from the way they've handled Assassin's Creed for a number of years. Like it's been great to
see them go back to the drawing different teams making the games. So it's like the teams themselves have had more than twelve months to make the game. Yeah, but you know how every team that's that company seems to touch each one of those games in some capacity and robs it's all over the place, just like let it breathe a little bit, like it's you know, there still aren't that many great big temple watch dogs too, these room to breathe.
Yes, obviously, that's the other part of this. I was just I was just gonna say, there still aren't that many, you know, kind of uh big tentpole releases exploring periods of ancient history. I feel like there's still a lot for Assassin's Creed to do, even even with as many as they have put out over the years. When does that game and talk to snake ladies. I don't know. This is this year's is okay?
What is that Wild Eagle? No? Oh that oh yes, wild though I don't know that we're talking about different games because we're talking where you're at a bear. Yeah, that's that's wild Okay. I don't know what's the one I want? Yes, I can agree with you on that, but yeah, that's all. Yeah. This tox story at the end just sort of casually mentions, Hey, we also heard the Watchdock two will be out
this fall, so that'll fill that slot instead. Yeah, and it says that is set in San Francisco, which all right, I'm sure they'll get it right there. What was the last one Driver Driver San Francisco? Sure, I mean the last yeah, the last last handful of games set here? What we got san Francisco Rush? Vet? What? Uh? Yeah Vet? The old spectrum Hollowbite Driving. That's a really old uh read only yeah, read only memories, that's neo San Francio. What are the what
are the true crime games here? There's La New York and Sleeping Dogs at that count. Why do I why do I feel like there was some other open world game besides Driver set in here. Uh, I mean you could go out in the crew. It was like, you know, it was kind of fictitious. Okay, yeah, I guess, uh that wasn't that San fierro Ins and Andreas. Anyway, Mario is missing as a San Francisco level. Yeah, I expect that we'll find out one way or the other.
Eighty three right. Sure. If they don't want to announce a new Asassin screed game, then there you go. It'd be great if they announced it and said, by the way, like actually I actually make a big deal about it. Yeah, or start to announce a new Assassins screed game and say we'll tell you more about that next year and then Watchdogs tea Yeah, that's that would be one way to go with it. There'll be a
leak screenshot and the following Monday they'll make their teaser trailer. Yeah right, yeah, I won't watch Dogs. I don't know, man, that game had potential. Yeah, it did a good A good version of Watchdogs would be pretty cool. Yeah, a less boring version of Watchdogs would be cool. But the abilities, I think that just the you know, the stoplight stuff just wasn't as cool as it needed to be. Yeah, like your tool set wasn't that interesting in that game first, for something thing that had
all that potential, you know, fucking cybercrime action fun. It's like GTA sounds like an amazing concept. Yeah, you know it was. But then when it was like Riddler puzzles to make QR codes, No, it was just like painting the environment with button prompts that let you do pretty mundane things. Still got legs. Though. I don't think I don't think that they should make another Watchdogs. I mean I don't think they I don't don't think
they should keep the character. I think they like toss a lot of that story and just keep it in the same world with CTOs cs. Yep. Uh man, I have lost I have lost track of time so utterly that I cannot remember when that crazy Steam Boom dooggle happened that Christmas Day. That was Christmas Day, that's right, You're right. I was sitting there at my aunt's house, like frantically trying to log into the Steam app, which trying to figure out if somebody had hijacked my challe, which was the worst
way to go. Yeah, apparently, uh I sat there and refreshed the page and got to see a ton of people's last two credit card numbers, boy, and sometimes their email address. Yeah who. I signed in once and saw somebody else's thing, and I was like, ooh, I'm I'm looking out right now. I don't want any part of this. I don't want to expose myself or anybody else. So then someone on Twitter said, hey, I just saw your stuff. Really Wow, that's creepy. Yeah,
that's the creepy. They eventually, like way after the fact, came out and said yeah, this was a cashing issue. Yeah, that's that's why I bring this up. Because that statement came out. Oh looks like five five days later, Yeah, something like that. I mean, granted, you know, like you got a breach of this Maggoto, you do you want to be damn sure what happened right before you get out there and message it. I thought they'd messaged the same day. I remember they posted
some stuff. Okay, there's like something on this team community that was like we're looking into it. But it was like right there, it felt super unofficial and slab dash. Well, I think it was enough to kind of a lay fears about like oh my account is going to get right right, stolen or whatever. But but but they posted a much more thorough breakdown of
what happened, like I've got it all here in front of me. I don't know how much you want to hear, because you're right, it is a lot of cashing configuration problem on their web server is that it is some you know, it was like people people understandably want answers when something like this happens, but then the answers come and there's super mundane. Yeah it's reading okay, yep, right, yeah, I know that works. That's the extent of it though, like, uh, the extent is that they say
about thirty four thousand people were affected. That's a lot of people. It is a lot of people. You're right. Could anybody actively change anything on your account? No? Okay according to them, no. Uh. You know, the stuff that Jeff mentioned could be seen, which is what two digits of credit cards, credit card number, phone, right, I want to say it was last four digits of phone and email address. This is what I saw. I know other people were probably really reloading different pages and
maybe they saw some different stuff. But purchase history also purchase history, uh and basically like every time you hit one of these pages on the Steam, it refresh and give you some random user that was not you, so you wouldn't be able to, you know, say hey, I want to see this person's stuff. It was just you hit it and this this cashing slot machine was pulled and served you up something fun. Uh, And so you could see like, oh, this person has a bunch of stuff in their
Steam wallet and they bought a bunch of fucking visual novels. Who the hell? Yeah right, this guy is a weirdo. So yeah, it was. It was stuff like that, relatively mundane, but still like email addresses, still like stuff that like if you were, let's say, like trying to build a case against someone to attack some other account of theirs. This this is still information, and information is power. Slutch Dogs too, CTS,
Steam runs on CTOs Way to go. Uh. This says yeah, this says they were actually you know, there was a like a dds thing going on. And that's yeah, right, that was the That was the maybe the surprising thing there's that they were seeing some kind of attack. It wasn't just like a Steam sale hit us hard, right, so ship blew
up? So but so they actually they proactively deployed some new cashing rules and if in response to that ddus and then that's what led to this problem apparently, so they were trying to gird the service and instead just kind of crack it open for a number of people. Learn them. I guess. The only other really interesting thing here is that they say that they are working to
figure out who was affected and then contact them. And I don't know really what they would have to say other than sorry, here's some Steam, here's here's ten bucks in your Steam wallet or something. Get another code for lift for a half life two. You know, it does say as it's some Ricochet, right, gay will be online playing Ricochet from four to six.
But you know they stress in this thing, like you know, there was no uh, there was no access on the part of other users to like change your password or get into your account or actually really do any like take any actions of any kind. So they say, you know, no additional action required on on your part. But still, who do you think got the call that Christmas morning? Oh? Boy, that's it was a Christmas.
It was after a while, maybe it was morning out here. I think it was just about the time that you were probably getting good and tipsy if you freaking nish or something out here. Okay, eleven or twelve, it was getting into the afternoon where I was, Yeah, that's you know, that bad time to have to like rush into the office and like engineers are on call. Yeah, they always for services like that. They'll come up with plans and all sorts of stuff, and indeed they get the page
and they go fuck. Uh huh yep. Yeah. Indeed, it sounds like they were probably already on the case because they were doing something with the cashing stuff for this CDOs, So it sounds like maybe they were already they had already said fuck hours before. The Valve statement does reference a web services partner who yeah, who was responsible for these with these cashing rules, So maybe they passed the buck a little bit there. Anyway, that's all ancient
history. Yep. Do you know what's new? Activision? Body milg Oh my god, Major League Gaming Activision is finally in the major leagues, uh forty six million dollars. But it seems that that has bought them MLG's assets for the most part, Okay, but not necessarily. I why does that
seem low? I have a I have certain just like not the most thorough under like business understanding of a lot of the stuff, but like they've effectively bought MLG's assets, but kind of not the corporate infrastructure from what I can tell, Like, oh, the Austin dug up a couple of different stories on this thing, and one of them characterized this as MLG effectively going out of business and selling off its assets to Activision, right, not not Activision
buying MLG as a going concern that would continue operating as it had been WCW yeah more or less. Okay, yeah, yeah, this is you know, the Activision bought that StarCraft League a while back or something right, or some StarCraft streaming thing, and then it just became like, hey, these guys are going to become kind of part of our esports team or Blizzard bottom are you know? It was it was ipl wasn't it the im right league?
Yes? They so they bought that, and then that kind of just became like the Hey, we're going to figure out how to broadcast stuff, and we're a camera crew, and we're this and that and and we're gonna start to do things around that. And that became that crew and now they have like it's it's what it's Activision, Blizzard Media Networks division of the company that is focused on this ship, and so it seems like whatever they do
get from MLG, we'll just fold into this thing. It's a weird thing where like one of the guys at Activision that was being quoted for this was one of the co founders of MLG, And at some point you're like, oh, is he's just bailing out his friends and I really believe also a manager at one of the investment firms involved in this transaction. It sounds awesome.
I don't know America, but the story syst so it forty six million doesn't sound like a lot of money, because I feel like everywhere we turn now you see analysts and a billion dollars all these people talking about like esports. Is this is the year, this is the year esports, this is
the year. It's gonna be huge esports. And on some level, like I'm looking at that and going like, you guys, like esports, it was it was the year a couple of years ago, it doesn't you know, And it seems like they're counting on esports cracking through to like this more mainstream audience, and I don't see it at all. Yeah, I mean ESPN has been kind of taking kind of half hearted stabs at that here and
there, and it doesn't seem like it's gained a lot of anything. It seems like the money is there, you know, sort of like how when you know, you know, in every game gets out, what's your esports strategy? You know, like everything was like, hey, well, what are you doing on iOS? What are you doing for phones? Would you have a mobile strategy? What's the going on with this? You know,
like that was a few years ago. Esports has become that conversation of like, hey, if you're starting up an esports thing and it's big, you might be able to rope a bunch of money in from big mainstream advertisers because they've heard the word esports now for about three years and a lot of them are like, we want to be a part of this. We understand it's very hot. So you have people spinning out websites into separate ets websites and
trying to make a go of it. You have you know, like people trying to get their piece of the esports pie while it's still well, there's a bunch of rubes in there right, Like it's crazy how much or how often it seems like business decisions are made on this vague notion of like what's going to be big and not like like we have actually done like market analysis and determined this is like sound strategy, but like more desperately a lot of times it seems like this is big right now, we need to get in
on this while it's still big and then it will is lapse someday and who knows. But it is esports like because because I mean, like it depends on where you're at, if you are if you are selling things, if you are trying to get mainstream advertisers to sponsor stuff. They are interested in esports. They have been for a little bit in different pockets and stuff like that, but like they've heard it, like I said, they've heard it enough times now that like they want to they want it, but they want
it safe. Which is why the big fighting game community riffed happened a few years ago, is because big advertisers don't want real esports. They want clean ass, sanitized esports. And that's something that a company like Activision would definitely look to perform. It just it seems like like almost across the board, like where all the real successes and esports is with the people who also make
the games in question. You know, it's like totally like Riot runs lcs themselves, like like Valve does the International and is now doing the DODA Majors, like Blizzard runs you know WCS and seems pretty protective of it, and like, yeah, Blizzard is part of Activision and they still even do their
own thing. Yeah, like I have no esports expert, but MLG seems like the sort of thing that just kind of got replaced by it basically the companies running their own thing, you know, like they were the need for this external independent league just didn't seem like something that had to continue happen, right like to their to their credit, they were the first big name that I was aware of, like as I was getting in the competitive StarCraft and
like I was like and even before that, like that, it's been around, Like you're right, that's a very old name. And they you know, they did the relatively clever trick of like replicating what is that the NBA logo with the controller or whatever, like like even the color treatment of the logo says like this is a sports league or yeah, whatever it is. But yeah, it fell off very quickly as these companies just kind of like
consolidated control of their own competitive scenes under their own umbrellas. Right. You would hear about like, oh, this is an MLG event happening in Dallas, or like, okay, what have they been playing? I don't you know, like what, I know that League of Legends runs their own thing. I know, the International happens, and they've got their Majors or whatever now too, and you got Capcom Cup and you you know, like stuff
on the fighting game side that's happening too. But like MLG seemed like a league without a country at some point kind of so, I mean, you know, a lot of that stuff seems to go all the way back to like even like ten years ago, like all the problems that Blizzard was having with KeSPA in Korea, sure, like all the feuds there between like well, here's the company that makes the game and has like most of the legal
rights to it, and here's this completely other organization that has very different ideas about how this competition should be handled. Yeah, but they had some clout. Absolutely, they were like tied into the government and stuff, yea, if I'm not mistaken. So, like all that stuff has changed so much that it seems like if you're not the people who legally have all the claim to the game, like I don't know what room there is for you.
Yeah. So now some of those people or some of that tech or whatever the MLG as is now just rolled up into the same part of Activision that
that IPL stuff probably rolled too. And what was this is Like it wasn't Bobby Kodick out there today like yeah, he's out on Twitter or saying like we're making the ESPN of e sports, which like, no, you're not, because ESPN covers all fucking sports, right, it's not just the ones that they own, Like actually, ESPN already decided that this is a thing, right Yeah, And yes, also ESPN is interested in esports coverage to some extent. Their appetite I think will fluctuate as the market does. Well.
I just I like, I wonder what Activision does with this stuff, specifically nothing the same stuff they've been doing this, I don't think. I don't think that's necessarily like gets them anything. They couldn't have built them. So I guess I should say it because I don't know what MLG has in terms of unique approach and tech and all this other stuff, like what are
they actually like what is their their catalog of assets? Is it just like, Hey, it's a munch of cameras, some maybe some like we got like ten x split licenses and I mean that's at least twenty million, right yeah, and a bunch of as much of try casters. You know, it's like it is it gear? Is it? You know, like are
they getting people? Is there no? How? Because I'm sure that there are people that have been at MLG for some time now that no Ah thing or two about broadcast and put on an event like this, So you know, if if that expertise is needed in there, then that's value. But also Activision has a ton of money right now, so this is you know, they could write it all off at some point. This is it's only forty six million, is like this drop in the bucket for them? Yes,
So I hope kind of hope they keep the name. I hope they actually try and foster it. And I think they've already, but it seems like that's already not I know, really, I know that's the impression help that it's not the worst name. It's not like you hear it and immediately know what it means. Yeah. Yeah, like there's there's built in recognition there though, was a smart play, but it doesn't seem like it really
paid off in the long term. Yeah, And I just don't know what Activision does with it, because, like you said, you know, Blizzard already seems to know what the fuck they're doing with this stuff, so they seem to already have a firm handle on it, and Blizzards the part of that company that has the games that I think makes sense for esports long term. I mean, you know, they'll they'll shout from the rooftops that Call of Duty is a thing. I'll see it. Yeah, I'll see it
at all. I mean at this point, they're kind of in the phase where they just need to keep Call of Duty going anyway they can, right, yeah, keep it at the level it's been at. Yeah. Yeah, But I just mean as like as like a huge esports thing. I mean, I mean, it has its viewers, it has its players.
I'm not going to say that it's there is no scene or anything dumb like that, but you know, you compare it to League, you compare it to the esports games they're really fucking blowing up, Like Call of Duty is not not one of those games. Yes, and shooters I think generally speaking, I don't think can totally with you not just not that entertaining to watch.
What do you give that Overwatch? You think Overwatch could break through just by being colorful or you know, I do see a lot of the people who are really serious about that game talking about it in the context of like team composition, right encounters and stuff like hard counters. You know, it's like, okay, well, and you know, the game even goes out of its way to say like, hey, you don't have any healers or
you don't have any support or engineer people on this team. You know, like they straight up say, hey, pick one of these types of characters. Yeah, because your team is deficient in that in that aspect. So like it could from a like a moba ish kind of standpoint, maybe yeah, like a having a metal layer of strategy there could, yeah, kind
of prop it up like that. But I just wonder it's it's one of those things, like, you know, I'd be curious to see, like if anyone cares about watching Smite, you know, is there a Smite scene that that Smite does Okay? Is my interesting like, like, I'm sure that you like, people who play the game seem to really like it and and it seems like it is catching on to some extent, But I wonder if there's like a viewership there a lasting viewership. Yeah, I know,
I know they have competitive events. I just don't have any sense of how big they are, and they seem pretty successful. I think that I think the game does all right, yeah, at least because that seems like, you know, it's more actionally, you know, it's it's a more direct view than yea, absolutely, and that's what that's what Epic is doing with with their new mode and all that stuff. So that stuff is not uh run its course yet by any means. Esports, it's not going anybody the
sports is here. That's been the like maddening thing for me is seeing like all the I don't know whatever. We have a different perspective on it because you know, it's like it always seems to come like so close, so close. Yeah, this is the year. Do you have do you have a much of a like a passion for this stuff to take off? In the fighting game context. I would love to, but you know, as Jeff kind of mentioned, I kind of splinter the community a long time ago.
Yeah, but there were there were a lot of like, you know, big name sponsors and a lot of players that just wanted the money, and there were a lot of people inside the community that are just like, no, we like our grassroots, underground shit. Sorry, and it just it just got ugly. Do you think you don't think those two things can
co exist? I don't know how how you make that work. I don't know how, Like on paper, it should be easy, right, Yeah, it seems I mean, well, I guess I don't follow it as closely as I used to because that stuff got so weird and now it just
seems so splintered. But I feel like, like, are there still just people running crazy streams just like, hey, we got our monthly thing, we're doing it and we're fucking we're gonna get in this room a play street Fighter and oh yeah, like yeah that's a constant, like that's that stream scene is still happening. Absolutely, Yeah, there's still Yeah, a majority of the even you know, professional players that are that are that are playing
for big bucks, they do have contracts and stuff. They still run stuff from their bedroom, right yeah, yeah, so yeah, the scenes a weird fucking thing, and I would I would hope that these guys could get their fucking shit together, get on board, turn this up, make it big. I don't know, I don't see it happened. This should get turned up. Is that what you're saying? Yeah, okay, sit up, all right? Uh is this our last story? This point? This
is our last story. Scale Bound is not coming out this years. Remember that game? Okay, yeah, yes I do. It's the dragons, dragons and headphones, yes, oh yeah, those are the two essential elements of scale down. What's the one with the robot dragons for you gotta take off their scales? Horizon? Don's horizon some more like robot the animal dinosaurs dinosaur looking well, there was a dinosaur. But there's also like robot elk in that game. Yeah, it's weird. Uh no, this is yeah,
this is just dragons and sunglasses and phones. As you said, dragons in high fashion. Yeah, seems to be what's going on in this. I mean it's platinum, it's a Platinum game. It's in fact, is it Commia's personal next game? Like finding does so many games at this point, I don't know. Yeah, but he's been out there promoting it a lot. We something to look forward to for next year. Yes, I
guess over the break on Charted got pushed back. Yeah, sou Charted also got well, I got pushed back a month to April, so it's not any kind of huge, awful delay. Whereas this, you know this, a lot of people were taking this as one of the Xbox One's big exclusives for the year. Ye will not be coming out so not this year now seventeen more interested in seeing what the fuck Crackdown ends up being. Yeah, I I wish I could remember where I saw this because it might be a
bunch of bullshit. But I thought I saw somebody on a forum saying something about a listing saying Summer Crackdown tailors thing. It seems likely. That seems like a good time for a Crackdown game to come out. I just wonder, like, how do you make that game? When open world games have been done to death and crazy open world games like the post Crackdown open world game. Yes, it's also become a little long in the tooth, like
everything Crackdown did has been done better since. Yeah, but and Crackdown two was disappointing. Yeah, there was something about that first Crackdown game though, oh yeah, yes, A huge part of it was jump high. It was no you know what it was. It was getting in the car and seeing the car transform every time you got into it was pretty good and like buffed out, you're like that car. But it also it's all big and bouncy and fun looking. Also like jump kicking cars and having them fly across
the world. Yes, and then the orbs. So I just had a curiosity. Do you guys consider that to be a superhero game? Kind of? Kind of sort of? I realized everybody's got superpowers, right, but it's not like they were in capes, like they're just kind of crime. They're just cops. They're just super copy cops. It's a world where all cops of SuperCops. I mean, if you're like Pro four is a superhero game, they had a super beautiful defining superhero in very specific context of comic
books than though. I mean that traditionally Saints four took place inside a computer. That's there's no superpower there, that's just space. It could all happen four that's actually a time travel though right also can be done also real. Yeah, okay, indeed, anyway, uh see you next year, scale down maybe if we all live that long. All right, I think this is the part where we talk about emails. Read some emails out of the inbox. Now, are these like emails that people sent in and like more
of that tumbler stuff. I mean that's hanging around. We were here for that. I didn't listen to that podcast stuff. Okay, Well some buch stuff worked out. Okay, I should I should have signed into that count before we started this. But we'll get there. Okay. Maybe first we will read some emails that were sent to BombCast to giant bomb dot com. I think I might be signed it too, that accunt of my laptopic. Yeah, okay, if if time allows, go ahead, okay, all
right, first email Mark and Rhode Island. It's writing in about game of the Year. Hey guys, I had an idea for a new end of the year award category game that hasn't won an award but should have. What do you think like by the end of it, as we tally everything up, it's like bonus award. Yeah kind of this I mostly pulled this email in here because it reminded me that we should have had the best game that nobody played. I liked that category. Yeah, I would have served some
real purpose this year as well. I probably would have pushed for City Skylines in that category, even though a lot of us played it a little bit. Nobody played it here a lot. I think Witcher would have won that category, but enough of us played too much of that I feel like for that game to make it sense that category. Yeah, maybe you're right, Like I played fifty hours of The Wincher three. I don't know I read on the internet. You you didn't play it at all? Obviously none of
us didn't everything you read on the internet. I don't know. There's lots of stuff that I didn't get to. But yeah, I mean, you know, it's just it's the the shitty nature of the year in the wards. Nobody can play everything like, there's no way for that process to be comprehensive. It is why the process is so exposed, Yeah, and so transparent. Right, It's not necessarily meant to be like the fucking end all
be all of all video games. I think it just came out our number anyway, Basically, what I'm saying is any outlet that didn't choose the same number one game as we did, it's fucking wrong. But but beyond that, what are you gonna do? You know, we have we have fun around here. It's it's as subjective and ridiculous as it possible. Yeah, it's a it's a long it's a set of long conversations meant to draw out a lot of talks about games, and often the games that get talked about
the most don't win anything. And that's fine. We are saying our piece about these games, and the awards are just a framework for those those discussions. Yeah. Then you know, if the fact that we haven't all finished which or three validates our awards, that's totally the prerogative of yeah, any listener. Yeah, but again, our number one pick is the right pick. Old spoil it in case people haven't listened. Yes, objectively, yep,
there's no You couldn't be more wrong. But you know, there's there's like zero listen, the games that compete with it is a list of zero games. There are no games. Correct. I'm not sure how it made it on the list, but it did, and it somehow got number one. I think we all wanted to go home. That is how it all isn't made it on the list. That's I ran out of juice. I
was just like, it was a long week. I don't know what happened, and we still had to move at that point, and watching Jeff cleverly manipulate that game all the way up to the top, that was the thing. You don't have to manipulate the game. That game rises to the top manipulating anything. The truth just happens, the truth, that beauty is truth. I respect that game a great deal. It's not what I would have
chosen. Ethan writes in I'm twenty three after the Saint's Row was better than fucking Skyrim two truth, Ethan says, I'm twenty three after everyone freaking out about man Eater on the Game of the Year show. I listened to it. Can you explain why it's a big deal? Was this an eighties thing that I won't understand? Dope song? Look, man, if you, if you, if you listen to some of the holler Notes catalog, some of the singles, just the greatest hits. Yeah, I can't go for
that. If yeah, if you, if you listen just like, dude. Yeah, if you if you steep yourself in which if you listen to Yes, if you get into those songs and you don't feel anything, it's because you're already dead man. Yeah, seriously, if you if you can steep yourself in the glory of all of notes and not feel it that, I don't know what to tell you. Darryl Hall was having an affair with somebody in my hometown. What you will into town? Wait? Would he
live stream that from his weird concert place? I didn't know. How did you know he was in town? You would see him, you could? You just would just like to see him walking around, uh, at like a bar? What? Yeah, you're saying you saw him at a bar? He had a mistress. That's weird. Okay, all right my hometown? Yes, awesome, private eyes you were the private eyes in that case. Watching your ever move uh parent from Newcastle in England. Jeff, how's
that lifetime sub to star Trek online working out? Do you feel like you'll get a lifetime of memories out of it? I figured like it was a good time to check in. It's great as the fiftieth anniversary of Star Trek approaches. Yeah, I have not played it lately, and I could at any moment, and now that it's free to play, and they have given me my like, I get a lot. I get a stipend from them of fun premium currency every month that I could choose to use on whatever I
want. What's the currency called Tonight World CC's I don't know, don't dilithium, cold, gold Press latinum. Yeah, uh yeah, there's a lot of Star Trek Online that I'm not playing. And it's great. It's working out great, it's working out fucking perfect. I've gotten an infinite amount of money back from that thing in its own weird way. Is there any think of the savings? Yeah, totally. Is there any way you could move the currency that they're giving you? Oh? Just what like like like started
off count? You know, I have to imagine as a as a lifetime subscriber, you have to be like the vast of VIP right in their eyes. So I assume you just get everything that you could possibly get in that game. I mean, I don't think it's enough to buy every single micro transaction based thing they've put in that game. But how much was this again? Three hundred dollars up? Front. Before the game came out for a game that it wasn't, they were charging a monthly fee to play it.
Yeah, this was way before every one. So if you do the math on like what the monthly fee was and my propensity to accidentally stay subscribed to games, I saved quite a bit of money buying the lifetime subscription to Star Trek Online and then you never had to cancel it. No, I never had to cancel it and I never had to play it, and it was still worked out in my favor. Speaking of for getting the canceled Jason,
do you so have you? Actually I don't. And it was like a fucking week before they announced like Star Wars Battlefront, and I'm like, oh shit, I wanted to play that, and now it I canceled mine as well. I signed I think Battlefield Hardline. We wanted to do a quick look of that. I needed it. So it is canceled, though you canceled it right before it would have been useful. I signed it for a
year of it, and I think it was still working. When Need for Speed came out, I was still able to play that one, even though I'd already canceled. It was still ticking out the time or whatever it was. I should have tried to download it. Maybe I've been a lot of money for it. Yeah, I mean whatever I had. I've had the same movie from Netflix out for like a year at a time. Time before
that happens. Yeah, that's like when we had those game fly accounts, Like game Spot had a deal with game Fly and they got us a bunch of free game man then that comp gamepl account was the best. It was the best because you just kept a game forever and you didn't have to care. Oh that's been gone for years. That was such a Yeah. The dude who hooked those up is long gone. Yeah, I don't know. Speaking of space and MMOs, anybody have a hankering to get back into like
old Republic? No free to play. No. But I like, weirdly see I very consistently see people talk about the public. Are they adding like Force Awakens stuff to it? Added they just added like they added new story stuff. That's that thing for me. Free I mean, I mentioned he three because it's the last time I saw any of this. But the thing with the two twins, like the twin Jedi, like maybe one of them
is good and one of them is bad. I don't know how that worked anyway, that that whole big add on is a dark side, I guess, no twins duality. That whole that whole content add on made its way into the game a month or two ago, I think, or some number of months. But anyway, like I ken quite quietly hearing that game is doing extremely well. Yeah, but I can't back that up, but there
have it that launched. That game was fun for being okay, like you know, the way they did the story stuff was not always perfect, but it was different from what other MMOs were doing. And I enjoyed my one hundred hours with it and then stopped, and then was happy that I stopped. That's right, you did play a lot of those good remember that it was all right That I hit a play with it where it's like, oh,
this actually isn't actually fun anymore. Like you hit a planet where it's like, oh, soloing is way harder now all of a sudden, and I'm not going to team up with people and the content is kind of boring now, And then I hadn't never finished my characters arc, but yeah, thats all right. Also, speaking of space and MMOs, I reinstalled Fantasy Star Online over the break, So the stack servers the done. They got like a bunch of new servers that can Yeah, it's way what logging in
the page. There still servers clients, they're not official officials, but it's super easy to just make an account on the site, download the client, down burst and go. It sounds all right like turn around time. It was like ten minutes. It's like a foreigner make file. I make an account, fucking log in and your plan, send me what servers or whatever you're on and I might download that stuff and get back into that. We should think about it. Did they have they are? The servers are there?
The servers that are running just running kind of core standard code and standard level up sers and like hey maybe instant leave. No, it's nothing quite that crazy. Anything like the Ultimus server or something like that, which is the most popular one, has increased like drop rates and experience rates and stuff like that. So that's a little fast tracked. But there's another one that is just pretty much vanilla like bluebirsts, which is all that I want to
plan. Yeah, but they also have like PSOs two style item drops, so like whatever drops is just for you, so you don't have to worry about anybody else. Pick it up your ship. It's kind of cool. It's kind of huh, all right, it's really cool. I patched PSO two over the break but did not launch it. Oh yeah, it's a pain in the ass. Like there has been a couple launchers that I've like
downloaded for that game that have given me some spywear. Really yeah, there's some Yeah, there's sketches stuck going on with that, some weird stuff around around that game, but they are that game's coming to PS four, Yeah, announced that over the break as well. I think PSO two is coming to PS four in Japan for about the Verse, and there's a new episode coming out that is set on Earth. Uh so you're running around Tokyo shooting zombies or something. I don't know. I'm in and there's an anime yep
and it sounds like the animates will come to the US. Ultimate fucking slap to the face. Good stuff, all right, Sean and Montreal has a question for Jeff, but I guess anyone could chime in. How do arcades make money? So many games were designed to et quarters, but what was the actual profit distribution. Did the money earned go back to the company that made the game? Did arcades get a percent of Happy Holidays and looking forward to more? In twenty sixteen? A lot of that stuff was rented,
wasn't but a lot were really purchased straight out. Yeah, I always assumed the operators had to just buy the machines. Well, I don't know what split the split was. Yeah, some some places are operator run and then some locations are run by distributors. So I know a guy who runs like a a distribution. I assume he still does, but you know, he was doing he had locations. So he's like this laundromat's mind, this movie theater's mind, this stuff is mine. So he owned all the machines.
He went to the business and said, I want to be the guy that runs the arcade machines. I'll take care of all the upkeep, I'll clean all the quarters out. You just get it cut and so you know. So then they split it with the movie theater chain, and they split it with the laundromat or whatever it is. Wow, I did not I totally thought the question or answered the question was just a flat like they bought the
machines and kept the money across the board. I didn't realize that the local arcade in my town actually ran most of the locations around town also when it was still open. So they did, and even after they closed the arcade, they were still running locations. So like laundromats, you'd see their logo on the machines, you know, Oh wow, operate I owned it,
operated by so and so. Yeah, okay, I guess that that whole business model is kind of a thing in the past, though at this point, right, I mean, more or less, I have to imagine like, oh, you know, all the barcades springing up, and they're probably areas are buying buying old classic machines out right and stuff like that. Like that stuff is kind of it's not the main way that they're making money.
Yes, well, yes, also that, but but at least they owned the machines right themselves, so when they get covered and booze, they're the ones that have to fix them. Yeah, it sounds terrible, Yes, I agree. At least it's not a bunch of fucking just Golden Tea machines
though, like Golden Tea and Big Buck Hunter. You're gonna say, at least it's not a pizza place, and kids are just smearing pizza all over the machines, which I guess is worse, But I spent enough time as a kid eating pizza and playing arcade machines in the same Yeah, but you had a fucking that much for the craft. That golden stuff is still huge though. Oh yeah, goddamn well that that there was that Big buck Hunter World Tournament live stream was running a while back, months ago. They live
stream. It was live stream from a bar, and like every part about it was the sleaziest, most fucked up of just like, here's a bunch of drunks playing Big buck Hunter and apparently they're the best in the world at all, and they have sponsors, Like who would sponsor the buck Hunter? That's it? Just some beer? I think, I don't know. I think they did have a sponsor or two. But then at one point there was a guy on commentary that had to be replaced. Wow, little it
was like a fighting game stream. It was. It was literally like at some point they're like, we got to get this guy off of here. And then fucking came back from break and it was like that dude was gone. Is he just too drunk, sure, okay, two drunk. Yeah, there was some stuff that dude, Yeah lovely, Yeah, like every
like it was awesome. Yeah. Yeah, it's about what you would expect, Like, you know, like every time I saw a Golden Team machine for the last like ten years or whatever, you would see like a little movie clip of the previous years, like tournament winner playing the game we're posing with, and those things are all hooked up to the internet that will just
up. Yeah. Wow, Well it wouldn't necessarily update. You have to pay to probably you know, upgrade machine to the latest year or something, but you know, for tournaments and stuff like that, all that stuff got uploaded. Yeah, a lot of those games are now starting to be emulated in Mayme, so you actually get to boot them up and see like the it stuff doesn't connect, but like it starts to make the network callouts to try to connect to some server and you're like, oh, man, arcade
machines got weird. At some point, wave net was everywhere, have you speaking of? Which, So we've moved floors and now we sit much closer to where the arcade machines are. Oh and they're loud. You're gonna get some some Putton silencers in there and silence some of that stuff. But the
coolest fucking thing. Have you watched the techn machines boot up? We have techn Tag two and Teken six Boodline Revolution, and when you boot them up, the fucking p S three XMB appears and it fucking launches the game. Oh weird, it's real crazy, it's super weird. Huh. Wasn't that Bloodline? Is that retribution thing PSP exclusive? Uh? No, No, that was an arcade upgrade that for home versions only came to Okay, so there was never like a console version of that outside of Vita or No.
What Tech and What came out as Tech and six? I think you're thinking of five, the one that introduced the Lily and the like zombie. H mean this guy? So yeah, yeah, I thought that was just the PSP exclusive thing. So all that stuff came to arcades, but it was when it came home in some cases, like the upgrade version only came to like PSP, there was some version of Tech and five, but for six, by the time six came out at home, they had already put out
Bloodline Rebellion, I think is what it was called. So all the home version of six had that in it already. Same will be true for seven. They announced the version that has a Kuma in it and which they are fucking weaving into the Tech and storyline by the way, and you know, like a really a very real way, did he climb out of a volcano? It makes a kuma the reason for the devil gene like it is like, like it is that's cannon that it sounds like, I don't know it
is now. Yeah. So so that update for Tech and seven is in the works and we'll be out at some point this year, and the home versions of Tech and seven will have that update. Day one. They gets like a working on tecond versus Street Fighters. They're like, right, yeah, one screen shot they released six years ago. Yeah, they've since moved on to make a character. And then they continue to say that they are
still making that game someday coming in twenty forty. Yeah, when they get the rest of the characters done, So they do both of those second cabs boot up to the PS Yeah, I think so. Really, I don't even know where those things came from, Like everything else sent them, oh like recently, No, when those games came out, they okay, they've they've been in the building. Well, yeah, the machines on the three were all spread all over the place. Now, one of the joysticks on
that machine. Those fucked up. You completely sucked up. We had one over at GI and it didn't I did that same PS three thing, you really, the the tech and the one with that Lily girl on the art, that one booted up to the X and B. Yeah, I'm okay, I'm pretty sure I don't remember that. I don't seen a lot of Oh that was a straight up PS three. Yeah, that's three in a box. Yeah, oh that one is. Yeah, it's not a real arcade machine. Okay, is not a real cabinet either. Yeah, that
thing is a boy oh boy, oh boy. Yep, all right. Zach from Indiana has an email. I'm not sure if you've already been turned onto this somehow, but there's a newly formed video game themed boy band parody out there going by the moniker of Big Bad Bosses or B three. Their debut album was just this past weekend. On it lis a song called Bears and Birds. It features none other than Grant kirk Hope himself rapping about how great he really is going so far as to call himself the twerque pope.
What need I say more? It is U sort of not say for work play it that can't be you should probably probably you've probably googled Big Bad Bosses and see what comes up. But mostly I just wanted to read this email so I could ask where is David Wise's Big Bad boy band parody out? Exactly? I mean, seriously, I don't feel good about this snow, all right, I feel better about it now that there's Mode of Noises. All right, that's not Grant kurk Hope. Well that's they're not saying that
it's a boy band. That Apparently kirk Hope is doing a verse, so he does a rap. Okay, the comments I'll tell you where to go too. Then this song might not be Bears and No No, this is yeah. How many views do we have? Bears and Birds is the name of the song. That's that's the kirk Hope song. Okay, how many views do we have? It's two hundred eighty five thousand, hm and Bosses head Bears Birds, So grand kur kirk Hope was thanked on this. Uh,
thanks for all you do, all right. They're on band camp thanks for being you. Okay, yeah, that sounds that's right. Yeah, I can't, yep, let it go. It's not the Midnightties anymore. I can't. As someone who has generated novelty rap in the past. Yeah, I have a pretty high tolerance for it. Yeah, it's about all you got. And I might even go so far as to say I am not one to talk, but sure I can't too much. I can't. It's probably fine, but I can't hear it, not now. I'm not
ready. Maybe not ever, maybe not ever. All right, we'll get back to that perhaps, uh Leo and Minneapolis writes in an email that suggests you guys talked about bananas at some points, always possible. Briefly Okay, I said Dan was opening him Oh you know, actually he says that right here at the beginning of the email. Ok you guys briefly debated last podcast about opening a banana from the top or the bottom. Right, Okay, that's starting to come back. I thought i'd share with you a banana hack
I learned. God damn it, let's hear it. If you grip of the banana horizontally with both hands and twist it forward and backward. The peel splits before you hit ninety degrees, and you can remove the full, unharmed banana with ease. I feel like that's got to be a pretty delicate though. I think if you go just maybe like a few millimeters in the wrong direction, you've got a mangle banana. You just you know, go by feel you got the top thing right there, just crack it off and got
bad. Who's having a problem fucking opening a banana from the top, Like, who's like, oh, this is so difficult, Like, no, it's fucking basic an oriente. It's a banana. Yea, what if there's a better way. But if there's a way that removes those gross fucking strings from it, that's can't taste them, that's supposed to be the appeal of opening it from the bottom. Everybody said that the strings all just come off.
I get no strings. I didn't, but I get that little discolored like ass end little nubs that right in the track, a little black spine thing. I know. People say that you can eat the black parts of banana, but no things ever. Yeah, I bite it off like a cigar and then I spit it up, bite part of the peel. No, not the peel oh, the black part. Yeah, just turn it away and then I spit it out. Hey, I was saying before I
went on there. The way to do it. Put a banana in the blender, make a little mush thing, and then use that spread it on your peanut butter sandwich. I wouldn't put some bacon on it. It's it's incredible. That's what I've been having almost daily throughout the break. I'll do that with my baby because they didn't have teeth. I don't. I don't want to. I don't want to do that. Don't want to do that. So I don't want good enough for Elvis. I don't want Yeah,
I don't want banana paste, so weird paste. Yeah, So what's this new method? You hold it like a vulture a bunch of pain killers, sprinkle it into the peanut butter. Shoot your TV. Yeah I like that, you know, Elvis? Shit, Yes, you hold the hold the banana sideways and twisted side side Oh and twists, yes, twist back and forth. That's you're giving someone a rug delicately. No, I don't know.
That's what he says. Snake bite, he said, burn, Yeah, snake, You've never this thing yeah, yeah, yeah, snake bite. It's a rug burn. Uh, no burns what you get on your knees. Everyone, I want to see they still hurt. I haven't had one in like twenty years. He's strong. Okay, Yeah, that seems unpleasant. Yeah, it's not that bad. Yeah, but it's not just like a quick burning. It's fine. You have a lot of hair on your arms, so that's true. Kind of pulled him. Yeah, all
right, stop shelf radio. Let's move on. Uh, Jeff podcast studio finished. You can see some serious shit half an hour of that. Uh Jeff and Seattle righte son about the Giant Bomb familial structure. It's going to present this for your consideration. This already sounds great. Yeah. Obviously Jeff is the dad of Giant Bomb West and Vinnie is the dad of Giant Bomb East. Yeah, that's exactly. That's what it says in my business card. I submit, I submit that Dan and Drew are the goofus and gallant
style children of West Gallant. Uh, Brad is the yes and you're in mind. Brad is the sensible and organized uncle. Jason is has always thinks he's the gallant. Yeah, you know what they say live long enough to go on. Jason is maybe the estranged stepfather figure that is often confused by the Shenanigans of his platonic family, but also realizes that things might be hopeless
should he actually step away. Sure, okay, man and all organized stuff, and it's just like, okay, you guys, keep doing what you're doing. I just want to be everyone's friend. Just pick up your fucking toys. Austin and Alex are clearly the cool late teenagers of East coming into their own, coming into their own philosophically after getting a taste of high school knowledge dropped on them. Jeff Bakalar is the cool new cousin that suddenly started
coming to hang out. Thank God, that's there. You go. What do you think? Yeah, presented without comment. Okay, yes, just put that out there. I got into this tumbler account. Okay, what do you think? Ye see if there's anything good there? Uh, let's see. What's everyone's favorite Kirby power. Mine's the one where he turns into a curling stone, the one where he eats stuff and has the power of it. Fucking beam. I feel like that. I feel like that's wishing
for more wishes. Man, you can't get away. That's not that's that's against the I mean, that's his only power, really true, that's the only one I can think of. I don't night Sword one. It was pretty cool. The beam sword things pretty cool. There's an ice one where there's one where he gets all porky piney like that. I don't think I've ever played a Kirby game. They're fine. I like the one where he's a pinball. Wait. Yeah, so you've never played a Kurry game.
I really don't think I have. Really, honestly, I have more than just like a few minutes. Like I've I've tried some of the side scrollers and yeah, the Super Nintendo stuff of course, and tried them briefly, but like sat down and played a lot of Kirby. Like when he eats Captain Falcon and gets a helmet. That sounds really cool. Punches things. Jeff, are you can eat all that minion? Cereal? No? Did you eat any of it? I tried a handful of it. How was
it? What was it? It's like a banana barry. It was like a berry. It's delicious. Bring it into work. That's so good. We'll take care of it. Is Dave Lane true the truest. Yeah. Probably. Who is he in the familial structure? Oh boy, we don't talk about. Yeah, he's that the uncle Jesse. He's doing the Uncle It just got out of jail, He's yeah, he's doing fifteen to Life. Uh. Is Ghost recon wild Lands the Hay sequel we've always wanted.
Let's hope, yeah, get into that? Is corn involved? I mean because if we get them and this game is not out for a while, we could probably get corn into it. How many times did they say boosh, m not enough. I'm gonna say our visual novels, No, not lately? Sure. Uh, let's see mm hmm rapid fire? Have you ever touched all you get? Got to do a little parsing here, careful would you ask? Yes? The first I've seen this account? I know.
The first time I did this, I made the mistake of just beginning to read things without skimming them first to make sure, and then that got bad. Yes. So that's that goes about saying have you ever touched the coil on a car cigarette lighter after it heated up? Yes? Why would you do that? It was hot? Why? Though I didn't realize it was hot? Really, how do you not know that? I when's the last time you guys saw one of Yeah? I was just wondered. They
still make those. You have to buy the actual cigarette lighter adapter like separately. Yeah, like they still have the plug for it because you can you know, there's yeah, chargers and stuff you can put in there. But yeah, yeah, I guess my car doesn't have one. Doesn't mine as an analog clock? You think it would have one? Weird? Yeah, that's like it's like they're they're like, it's it's a twenty fifteen model year car, okay, And they're like version of like, let's figure out a
way to make this car fancy. Was put some fucking plastic wood grain stuff on the dash and in the center of it analog clock. That's that's I didn't. I did not get a fully loaded version of the car. Does it not have a cigarette lighter? Though it does, it's there's no, there's no lighter in it. It's just the socket okay, and it's and it's located in the center console for like specifically for charging. Should you just add one if you want? Yeah? By the heating element? Probably is
that just an aftermarket thing? I get just fit in. There is that standardized? It must be standardized. That was always the scariest thing as a kid. Jesus Christ. I would always push it in because I like pushing buttons, and then you would realize you just made something hot. Yeah yeah, and you can set something on fire with it. Did they have like vape charging stations and cars now? Yeah? Probably all us the USB stuff I think a lot of it is setting stuff on fire still pretty fun.
Yeah yeah, yeah yeah. Our paper shredder broke and I had a big stack of papers. I needed a shred over the weekend, so instead I went out back and opened up the grill and just burned them all on the grill. Did you watch the secrets go up and smoke? Laugh quietly to yourself? And then I really paranoid that all my neighbors were watching. Also, my hair was kind of crazy because I had slept on it weird And that was just like this crazy dude and a white T shirt burning a bunch
of documents that needs nothing to me anymore. It was weirdest burning stuff. Uh, who owns the rights to Bloody Roar? Do you think it's possible we'll ever see another one? Of those games. Would any anyone besides me even want one? I play one? They may went three of those make as two one Yeah, okay, yeah that was stuff on PS two. I like that better than Primal Rates. I was just about to ask, I wouldn't that, man, I would take dude, prim Rate sucked heing
dinosaurs. Okay, what the fuck? You're not gonna give me to argue against being dinosaurs. But that was not a good video game. But yeah, their Primal Rage had heart, but was a bad game. You can always make a better game, but only one franchise has peeing dinosaurs. If they came out with a bloody roar and it had being dinosaurs in it, you wouldn't think, oh, they really fucked up bloody roar with this stuff. You go like, all right, cool if they were being dinosaurs.
Oh, Hudson made it. So you're never going to see one of those ever made bloody roar. Yeah, weird tech and had a farting dis What does that mean owns bloody roar? That's that is exactly what the wow. But you can go they'll take it to their grave, just like Metal Gear, who was the story Aiding made it. I don't know that's m m. It sounds like Beastiser was originally, which was the arcade game? What was the story about Gone and techn because I always wanted to him in more
games? But it was some animal character. It was a license Characa or something. Yeah, Aiding, Aiding made the game, Aiding Co Limited Aiding Raising. Surprisingly, I'm not up in my bloody roar lore, get on that better. Fix that fix that I would I would like to be an authority about you should somebody's got to do it. Aiding appears to continue to exist, but I don't know if they own the rights to the IP or if they're just the developers. They have a game for iOS called Storm Heroes
that appears to be like a Centai thing. That's what that is, the Power Rangers stuff that's sent I right, good? I like I like that all these come in an animost anonymously because it makes you wonder things like whether the next three of these were all sent by the same person, or if three different people just happen to send in things analyzing our speech patterns all at
once. UH A statistic for you. Over the last five episodes, the word moment is spoken by Jeff an average of thirty one times per episode. Wow, it's a lot of moments, all right. Uh. Brad may overpronounce the letter L in words such as yolk, walk, folk, et cetera. However, Jeff adds an L to the word moment, making it moment that has to be the same person has to be saying. He says, moment. That's literally how this is spelled here. So yeah, yeah,
it's it's the it's a mole's moment. Uh. A while ago, Dan mentioned that he feels embarrassed that he says to where he should really embarrass at his notice it. Now he shouldn't feel too bad since Patrick Kleppick says, in which in nearly every sentence, m there you go. Uh, what do you think is the optimal supermarket sweep strategy? Directly for the meat? Finally, something that is in dance wheel house let me finish. Okay, do you go directly for the meat? OTC medication? Do you deal
with the candy and coffee bullshit? First of all, you do a quick sweep of all the aisles and you see if there's any big inflatable like jolly green giants or anything, because they usually have a little envelope on there with I can't remember if there was clues or whatever to get to like some super big thing. But if you're just trying to stock your cart with stuff that's going to be really valuable, you go straight to the turkey section and you
just load your whole cart with turkeys. That show was amazing, and then after it was Shop Till You Drop, which was okay. It was the one set in a big fake mall, but it was no Supermarket Sweep, Right, I want to find out what's going on with the host of Supermarket Sweep. I hope he's not dead. What was his name? I don't know. He's very friendly. He always had a tie. I think he had an apron on like he worked in the supermarkets like a game show? Was it? That wasn't Tom Bergeron? Wasn't no, no, no,
it was I've only seen him on that. He was no Wink Martindale. He's no Tom Bergeron. Who is really? That's true? But no, the Supermarkets with David ruprec Man, this show was great. They should remake that. They had a couple of hoose. Yeah, it was well originally well okay, in the sixties it was Bill Malone and they brought it back in the sixties. Apparently. I watched the early to mid nineties win. Yes, David Rupreck, the host of that. He was middle aged when
it was No, he is not good. He is sixty seven. I hope he's happy. He has hosted the live stage show version of The Prices Right in casinos and Vegas and stuff like that. When they do though, when they see him doing a good job at that, yeah, uh, same with a family Feud live. He's currently one of the hosts the Prices Right Live stage show at Bally's, working alongside Todd Newton, who was the He was one of the early e presenters. Okay, he did the thing.
Won't say he did that trailer show, oh with the Entertainment Network. Yes, the Entertainment Now got it. Who's underrated? It is Kirk Fogg, the guy who repelled from the ceiling at the beginning of every episode of Legends of the Hidden Temple. He was good. That was one of the greatest shows. Well, apparently they both work alongside announcer Randy West for the Prices Right Live stage show. But it's not the Randy West. I was thinking of us, so I was like, that's a weird turn. Oh
boy, I wish I hadn't laughed at that. Which uh speaking of which, wait, what is this not? No, this is TV Randy West dot com. This is Jesus Christ never bringing a laptop to the show ever again, or always bringing a laptop of this show from here on out. Yea, we need jingles, man, Yeah, I could agree with that. I lastly, I will mention that I very briefly observed this morning watching the news that if you're into weird game show host names, go on.
Watching coverage of the Oregon Federal Building occupation is another great source of crazy fucking names. It was like every every single person there was a sound like, yes, they were talking to a rancher named Lavoy Finicum on the news. This would work as a game show. I'm not saying like that. Yeah, it's a different kind of weird name, but maybe as an announcer, like a Rod Roddy esque figure. Yeah, me, where what country you're
from? Roy? It's real good suits yep. Uh Yeah, there's a long stream of string of messages here about automode Lisa fin very enthusiastic ones man, that game should have been I sent all these they don't They don't even really say anything intelligible. It's just a lot of enthusiasm for Automodelise took game. It looks so cool and played so not cool. Yep, yeah, that's a shame. Uh. Would blood Borne have been better if they had
just gotten the license for Lovecraft works? They would. They've done everything but break copyright. But wouldn't it be better if you could fight Cthulhu? Lovecraft is in the public domain? That shit is old. I actually like wish that that game had something other like, I think there's too much Cathulhu in in things. Yeah, it's love it's that they would read it. I bet I'm or they would. I don't thought there was a decent amount of
restraint there. They waited until about the halfway point before they really started. They did, but but once the turn happens, it fucking turns and never goes back. It's just not like I've never been into it right, so when it rears, it's ugly technically fucking head. I was like a man settle an old bet for me regarding that stuff. So back a game informer somebody temp Terry, my friend was writing a thing about that type of stuff
Cthulhu and Lovecraft and all that before Cosmic corp. Okay, I'd heard that term. He referred to something in a preview or somethings like, oh, it has elements from like Eldridge Horror or something. And I went up to him and I was like, I should probably take this out. People aren't going to know what that is. And he was like, yeah, it's really commonly known. Everyone knows what Eldrit Horror is. I was like, yeah, I've never heard that. I've heard of Lovecraft genre maybe, but
yeah, like love Craft team I've heard of in Cosmic Horror. But the cleanest way to refer to Okay, I don't think. I don't think I would immediately know that you were talking about Lovecraft if you yeah, thank you. Like it kind of suggests it, but it's not quite not quite, uh, but yeah, like I actually stick your head in a fake toilet
you keep talking about it this way. I actually actually actually looked this one up earlier, just to make sure the Lovecraft stuff is in the public domain, that that exists from like right before the time that the Disney perverted copyright law to its own ends forevermore. Mmmmmm why do you give Dave Lang so much shit? I don't understand that at all. These role model so much. I just threw that one out because I'm trying to find another one.
Okay, uh Rivers point the Guns n Roses reuniting in twenty sixteen for a few festivals, seeing a slash an Axle recently made up. I I didn't hear anything about that. Oh yeah, I just hear that actually each other? Yeah, Kendred Spirits. Do you guys think we'll see a reunion soon? Twenty seventeen is the thirtieth anniversary. Have appetite? I have? I have a question before we get to this. Yeah, Dan, what made you more excited the potential rumor of Guns and Roses getting back together or Axel
professing his love for Taco Bell on Twitter? Probably the Taco Bell thing, because I've always been fascinated with Axel and knowing that a man of his stature and wealth and fame can still he's not so high falutin. He's not so you know, wrapped up in his fancy world that he can't appreciate you know, some good cuisine. Cuisine, Yeah, the actual you anything. So I've actually been following this pretty close. And I'm looking at the lineup right
now that's heavily rumored, and it's a weird fucking lineup. It's not the original one. I mean, Axel and Slash are the important thing, but you've also got these jumbors like Chris Pittman and who exactly he's the guy who puts a bunch of weird sense noises into stuff like are under the Chinese Democracy? Is he? Is he? Or no? Is he? Uh? No? Is he? So here here's the lineup? He was like the
hold out, wasn't it for a while? Is he? Well? Is he would show up during Chinese Democracy tours and occasionally during rose stags and do stuff. But he hates kind of cash grab reunion type shit like this. So is he? Is not part of the super rumored thing. So it's Axel, Slash Duff. It's a good start there, Okay, uh Frey. I think Frank's that drummer named Brain. It's been a long time since I was super obsessed with this stuff. Chris Pittman, who's the weird scynth
guy. Dizzy who is the piano player, the backup guy on November Rain. He's in that video. It's really fucked up that a band had due named Izzy went and got someone named Dizzy. Yeah, the best was the best. Yeah, it was when he Dizzy. We're both in the band. But there's not no Gilby, there's no Izzy, Ilieve Pisher and Richard Fordyce no Buckethead obviously, but yeah, so Buckethead. As of the day this podcast goes up, Axel is going to be on Jimmy Kimmel Live,
and uh, that's tonight. That that is tonight as of this airing. I mean that was last night. Yeah, appeared on Tuesday. Yeah, Tuesday night. Axel is supposed to be saying what the deal is, Like, it's clearly going to happen. Seeing Axcel and Slash together will be kind of crazy to see. Are those shows that you feel like you absolutely have to see? So here's the you guys both like, I think this is
a terrible idea. Here's the only thing I'm excited about is that I think we're guaranteed some just classic Axel asshole, you know, him just storming off stage, canceling the thing. Can't get away with that anymore though, because he can't bring it when he does go on stage when I saw him. I don't know, man, he was actually really really good when I saw him. I'll take your word for it, but he's had terrible appearances in
the Chinese democracy era, like he can be fucking terrible. But when I saw him at the Target Center of Minneapolis, he was on can I'm amazing. Do you think that when this lineup gets back together, will this lineup be equipped to give me some reggae? Uh? I think if they do knocking on Heaven's door, I think he might get some reggae. You'll have to yell up pretty loud from the crowd. Okay, if that's what it takes, If it takes me going to every show on that tour and shouting,
give me some reggae. Have you seen the most recent picture of ax Rose from late December. Who that's all I have to say. It's not gonna be pretty. He's saying he really does like Taco Bell. He's not fun. Oh yeah, he certainly seems too. But yeah, I'm just
looking forward to the Axel freakouts. That's my favorite thing about Guns. I mean, the music is very good too, but Axel is the most fascinating part of that so I'm looking forward him canceling at two shows in or getting in some crazy fight or you know, yeah, it's gonna be great.
I feel like his time has gone on. I like, for me, Guns n Roses was a real passing fad of like, oh, the Appetite for Destruction was really good and the stuff that followed was was fun at the time, and I listened to it now and just go like, oh, these people were all terrible. Yeah yeah, not in like an ass like, oh, it's fun to see an asshole's like, no accelent, really bad person. Oh yeah, I completely agree. He's a real piece. Yeah he's, Yeah, he's but he's a fascinating piece of s yeah yeah.
And it's one of those things where it's like, at some point along the way, the music either got dated or ruined by a lot of that stuff or whatever is I listened to now, it's like, except for a select few songs from Appetite for Destruction, even though I'm kind of done with yeah, yeah, that's a big, big, big guns and those songs have have gone the other way of like, I've heard these songs so many times I don't really want to hear something like half of appetite you kind of
kind of can't listen to anymore. It's just side of you. It's so overplayed that I'll admit, Yeah, like a lot of that is on my running playlist, and if I'm running, a night Train comes out and it's like, yeah, night Trains a fucking sweet song, but I've heard it a thousand fucking times, so I skip. I can't listen to Regulate by Warren Gy and Nate Dog that that is a real tragedy and it's I don't know that I'll be able to. I can listen to it maybe once a
year, all the way through. But it comes on on my you know, I I have satellite radio, so there's a throwback rap station. And then also it's on my phone and when it comes on, I skip it. I mean I skip it me out. That's what I do. How are you gonna know what's gonna happen if you're ass as a buster? I know, yeah, I know the two on three reill Regulate because that's inside
of me. Now. I don't need to hear it because it's always in there anyway, and hearing it is just even You've you've internalized this knowledge, Yes, you absorbed the wisdom, and I don't. Axel doesn't look like you're showing me this picture of Axl Rose here. He doesn't look that bad. Really, whatever was not looking? Hey, it's been fucking what thirty years? Man? What the do you want? Looks very sad? I mean I saw when the Appetite for Destruction came out. I think I was
in the eighth grade. You know, I saw a video. I look I don't look like I looked in the eighth grade. I mean I saw, I saw. I saw a video of Slash's band the other day playing a tribute to Lemmy, and like Slash, Slash can still play, but he's put on a few as well, Like these dudes are in their fifties. Yeah. It's also they're like all sober right, like Slash had too good sober, like medically ordered. Basically, Axel is super nats stuff.
Looks like he belongs in fucking Mad Max the Holy Hip. That guy is like two percent body fat, just fucking like muscle and sinew and just like scary. Look at the guy that was like chugging fifths of vodka. It's a miracle those dudes are still alive. Anyway. Yeah, yeah, that'll be fun to watch. I'll be watching Kimmel tomorrow. It'll be interesting to watch. I don't have any expectation it'll be any good, but not Felon
doing Kimmel. Okay, I remember Felon actually reintroduced guns and Roses at like two two VMAs. Yeah. Yes, I've watched the clip a billion times. That would have been I thought that was a good performance. That was the corn rows and unveiling. Oh h yeah. The shortest messages they're sending this tumbler are also mostly the most unreadable ones for one reason or another. Yeah. Uh, if you were a fast food restaurant, which one would you be? Arby's? I was just gonna say Arbason. I don't know
why. Why do we both go to Arby's. I don't know that. I was kind of thinking Arby's, but I also texted someone about Arby's earlier today, so I think about Arby's a lot. I don't even know if there's an Arby's in San Francisco. I am fun one. I don't know, but I was. I would say Jack in the Box. They've got the most variety on the menu. There's a ton of stuff on that menu. It's insane. They serve breakfast all day, none of this McDonald's.
Yeah, the burgers have gotten fucking dry. Ye, I don't know what's going on with those tacos are still shitty. I'm shitty in a way that I love at two am. For me, that's all. I want to be shitty in a way that people love. Ye. I've been going through McDonald's renaissance lately that it's i'd gone too long, Like since I moved here, there's not McDonald's close to me, but there's that one right there on the corner. So a couple of times I've gotten McDonald's and were kindling an
old love gross it's great, number two, number two forever. And Burger I'm taking a break from currently run break Okay. I went to a Burger king, oh not that long ago, thinking I was it was October. I was trying to get that black burger that they were and they didn't fucking have it. But I was like, I was in the drive there already, so it's like I'm not going to just drive away. I got it, and it was I don't eat it as often as I used to, and it was not great bumped me out. So wait, do we not
get fucking mcribs out here? Yeah, because it's mac ribs season. Like when I was home, they definitely had mc ribs. If they're out, they're out. It's usually it's a regional but so it's like it's the cost of rib meat, and it is. But usually it's usually when they find the price, they roll it out nationwide. It's sometimes it takes a while to get damn it's around, but the mc rib definitely hits. I feel like the season was months ago, but it might not him same from Cisco.
I don't know. I don't need a McDonald's. When I went two weeks ago, there was mac rib signs everywhere. Really yeah where in Kansas? In Kansas, Okay, try to go to chick Fila while I was in Kansas, but it's fucking Sunday. We got one out here. Yeah, there's a chick Flay out here where Uh Well, the closest one is in uh Vacaville. I think there's there's no creek because one it's Santa Rosa. Now up by me there is one in Nevado. No, wow,
that's close there. They're opening more of them around. Yeah, okay, good, go to Fatburger sometimes they're good. Yeah, man, I haven't been to one in a while. I miss fat. There's one that E forty owns half of okay, pretty much exclusively, go to that one. That's all right, let's do one more of these, get out of here, all right, except that I've gone through them all. Shit, if there was a game, any game, and only one copy was made and
it was sold at auction, what game would fetch the highest price? I mean, an existing game or just like a sequel? I guess, I don't know if that's the entirety of the thing. Wait, only one was made? Yeah, wu tang albums situation. Yeah, that's obviously what they're getting. I think, like, I don't know, and probably a half like three, right, oh sure, yeah, that's what's if they if they came out said we're making one copy of Half Life three, excepts making
a PC game would be bad because I would just get pirate. It would be so good. It would be a Pokemon game. Should do that thing? What I meant, But sure their servers get that source code. Let's say it. Let's say it has to be an existing game, any game from the history of games Chase, of course. I mean I guess by default, whatever game you pick is automatically the most coveted game ever, right, yeah it then collectors are weirdos and they would want to own it.
It's true, all that sort of stuff. Mm hmm. Primal rage R two yep, on like two or three copies of that Chicago Yep. Yeah they yeah, that's right they did. They got one up and running and put it aid yep. Yeah, fuck go to Chicago. Uh the Legend of Zelda, sure, sure, BombCast giant bomb dot com or uh god, what is it? Is it giant BombCast dot tumbler dot com. I believe it's the Tumbler account. Is that right? I think so? I can't even remember. I think that's right because I hastily try to pull it
up on my phone. Twitch Idler is up to five hundred and thirteen million. Wow, geez, that's moving a pretty good clip. It was like fourty eight eight earlier. They have to go go tune into the team effort. Yeah, just sit in the chat. That's all takes, okay. Occasionally type upgrade upgrade what is it literally called twitch idler slash twitch Idler yep. All right, well we all should go for our support behind the cause. I mean maybe, don't know, I don't know. I think it's
probably for the best. We all get out of here and go check that out. All right, let'll do it for this first edition of the Giant Bobcast for twenty sixteen. Thanks for listening. We'll see you next week, same time. Bye.
