So this year, twenty twenty five, we were gathering together again to do the Critic Fantasy Critic Draft again. Sean, you were the commissioner yet again, as you are probably arguably one of the more organized people that I know in general.
So shouts out to you, Doug, Sean, has do we have to do anything? Or has Grub made his team?
No, Grub mays team. He was on top of things. Kind of okay, so we're all good to go. I have set the draft order, so maybe you might have to refresh the page in order to see it take place, but we should. We should remind everyone, even though we just went over an episode or two ago, what exactly we're doing here, if nothing else, so everyone the call remembers what we're doing here. Fancy Critic is a game where you put together a It's like fancy football but
for video games. Is how the creator describes it. But put more simply, basically, you're just coming up with a list of games that you think will perform the best as opposed to your opponents in the year twenty twenty five. That's all we're doing, putting together a list of the best games. And like fantasy football, like drafting a fancy team, once a game has been picked, you cannot pick that game.
It only goes to one team. So we're just gonna go down the line and each pick a game that we think will perform well in the year twenty twenty five. For each point over seventy it scores an open critic, you get one point, and each point over ninety is additional point. Dull the points there. So yeah, just pick good games like Dan did last year and Lavas did not do last year.
Right, So, I think it's important to call out the fact that this is not over today, and I think that was maybe something that was not enforced to the rest of the group, and I think it.
Probably was pretty well understood.
I think we did multiple summaries and stuff.
So just let me finish the thought here. I think like there were certain things that I didn't understand. I know what fantasy sports are, so I was able to sort of piece it all together. But I think the not the the the what's it called the bidding, That's not what screwed me up. I think it was like how many games I could have and what the counterpick situation was. And I just didn't realize if I didn't do a counterpick, I would be penalized.
So that's the thing that I also didn't know we could we could do stuff throughout the year. I thought it was a set it and forget it, which is where Yeah.
Well that's a huge tactical error there.

Okay, here's the port thing to remember. We're gonna pick a couple of games today. Then you're gonna get a budget one hundred dollars that you can get games later by bidding. We will. We'll go over that probably at the end as a reminder, just so we can go maybe do an example of that because I can maybe we can like share a screen or something, and you guys can see me doing another another league. But it's
pretty straightforward. As games get announced or as you get a hunch that maybe a game that didn't get drafted actually is going to come out, or you feel better about it than you did during the draft period, you can bid on it. That's and and that bid is going to be if you win that one percent of your bid will be taken. So like Dan got what astrobot last year, I bid like thirty five dollars of my one hundred dollars on Astrobot, and I felt pretty
good about that. Dan bid seventy dollars, thinking that, oh, it's just going to go use as much like he thought it would work, like eBay where it's only going to go as high as the next highest bid or something like that. It's like, no, if you bid seventy, it's going to take all seventy dollars and you'll only have thirty dollars left, but you will have Astrobot, which won you the entire year.
So it's a risk reward. So yeah, yeah, this is something. This is the song I was getting to. I was getting to this because there is a change from last year. So last year, what we did is we each picked five games in the initial draft, and then you could add five teams later throughout the year through the bidding system.
So we're doing a little bit differently this year. I think that there's not quite enough confirm for twenty twenty five for us to do it this that way this year, So instead today we're each going to pick four games today and then throughout the rest of the year you will be able to bid on up to six games to add to your team, right, Bill, Jason's up in a slightly interesting way, and also keep people playing in the long term hopefully.
Yes, question, Yes, do we have to pick so we don't have to pick counterpicks?
Then they pick one today, Okay, just like last year, you will need a one by I believe it's September first, got it. Yeah, Because that way you can counterpick one thing that was picked today, and then you will counterpick something that someone picked up later on in the year. Now, counterpicks we didn't really explain yet, right, So a counterpick is a required thing that you have to do for your team. You are calling someone out, You're saying, no, I think that game won't perform well or will not
release this year. Is a required thing that each of us must do, is to make sure that things are kept in check, because if we all have really really good games, well, then you you know, it's a way to make sure that things are balanced out there, because especially especially because as we go through the dres we will go in reverse or for the counterpicks. Right, a person who gets a really good game, we'll have to also counterpick statistically a good game.
Because everyone else will have already chosen all the obvious games that aren't going to come out or might not perform or something like that exactly. And people get it.
And because I've never been able to really save face in any kind of like public space, I would just like to go on record and say that when I picked Silent, He'll remake last year, the group was really all in agreement that this was a pretty good pick, just on the merit that it wasn't going to come.
