Gastroparesis affects approximately five million people in the United States alone, and there are more than 50 recognized causes. In recent years, however, it's been shown that simply accelerating gastric emptying may not improve symptoms, and the overlap of functional dyspepsia and gastroparesis has further clouded our understanding of this condition.
