Former referee Steve Conroy quit in 2012 when he was not supported over a decision he gave for Rangers against Dunfermline that was subsequently questioned by the SFA. He was asked to ‘review’ awarding a penalty for Sone Aluko after a challenge by Martin Hardie but stuck to his guns.

Aluko was later cited by the SFA and banned for two games. Conroy was banished to the Third Division and quit after three games.
“I have spoken to lots of the guys and they are having to put up with lots of the stuff that I had to suffer.
“I always felt the SFA didn’t come out and back us publicly as they should do.
“Who knows where they are now? Whether they agree or disagree with decisions made we are part of the organisation and their duty is to help and protect us.
“I haven’t seen any protection of Kevin Clancy from the attacks he has been getting which I think is pretty appalling.”
