All right, welcome back to Geezers of Gear Future Tech. I'm Chris, and as always, I've got Lacey here with me. Today we're diving into something that's got a lot of folks in the lighting world buzzing. The Elation Rebel profile. Laci, have you seen this thing yet? I mean, I've seen the press photos, but I haven't actually gotten my hands on one. But Chris, you've been talking about it non-stop. What's got you so excited about this fixture?
Well, it's not everyday you get a compact profile that's packing a 500 Watt LED engine and still manages to spit out 22,000 lumens. That's a lot of punch for something this size. And the real kicker? It's IP65 rated so you can drag it out in the rain, dust, whatever, and it just keeps going. IP65 that's the weatherproof thing right? So like you could use it at a festival and not panic if the sky opens up. Exactly.
I mean I remember this one gig years ago, outdoor show, big crowd and then out of nowhere the heavens just opened. Half the rig was toast by the end of the night. If we'd had something like the Rebel profile back then, we'd have saved a fortune in repairs. It's fully sealed so dust and water just aren't a problem. That's wild, but it's not just about being tough, right? What else is under the hood?
Oh loads, you've got a zoom range from 3.5 to 51 degrees so you can go from a tight beam to a big wash. CMY colour mixing variable, CTO and A7 position colour wheel with high CRI filters so you can get those really accurate skin tones or punchy colours. Plus there's a full suite of effects, rotating and fix gobos, dual prisms, animation, wheel blackout, framing. It's a proper designer's tool kit in one box. Wait, so you can do all the fancy midair stuff and the subtle washes with the same
fixture? Yeah, that's the idea. It's got 15 glass gobos, a full animation wheel, and you can do everything from sharp projections to dreamy layered looks. And the framing system lets you do full blackout shutter cuts, so you can really shape the beam however you want. That's a lot for one light. I'm starting to see why you're so hyped. So let's talk about the road. I mean, you've done more tours
than I can count. How does this thing hold up when you're bouncing from stadiums to tiny clubs? Honestly, that's where the Rebel profile really shines. The IP65 rating means you can use it outdoors, indoors, wherever, and you're not constantly worrying about cleaning out dust or water damage. And for rental houses, there's even a customizable logo plate so you can slap your branding on it. It's a small thing, but it matters when you're sending gear all over the place. That's clever.
I've seen so many fixtures come back from festivals just caked in mud or like fried from a rainstorm. Maintenance is a nightmare. Exactly, and with the Rebel you're looking at minimal maintenance. The whole thing's sealed so you're not opening it up every week to clean out gunk. I've seen gear breakdown mid show, motors seizing, colour, wheels jamming, you name it. It's always the elements that get you With this, you're just not as worried. It's built for the rough stuff.
So would you say resilience is like the most important thing for a fixture these days or is it still all about the features? It's both really. You need the creative tools, but if the thing can't survive a week on the road, what's the point? I've had shows where a single fixture going down meant a whole look was ruined. The Rebel Profile is trying to solve that, give you all the bells and whistles, but in a package that's actually built
for the real world. Stadium gigs, festivals, even those sweaty little clubs, this thing adapts to all of it. And I guess for rental companies, less maintenance means more time out on shows, less time in the shop, right? Spot on. It's about keeping the gear working, not sitting on a bench waiting for a tech to fix it. That's where the value really comes in. All right, let's get into the fun stuff, the creative side you mentioned, the colour mixing and all those effects.
How much control do designers really have with this thing? A ton honestly, the CMY colour mixing is super smooth and you've got variable CTO for dialling in your colour temperature. Plus the high CRI filters 80 or 90 mean you can get really accurate colours which is huge for TV or anything with cameras. And then you've got the effects, gobos, prisms, animation wheel, dual frost, high speed iris. You can go from a soft wash to a razor sharp beam in seconds.
So it's not just a 1 trick pony, you could do like a Moody theatre look or a big flashy festival set with the same fixture. Exactly, and it fits right into Elation's broader lineup. The Rebel profile is the first in the series, but they're already teasing the Rebel Wash 4 and 12. Those are wash fixtures with 60 Watt R GB LLEDS also IP65 rated, so you'll have a whole family of rugged creative tools to mix and match.
It's all about giving designers more options to push boundaries, whether you're lighting a stadium or a black box theatre. Do you think stuff like the Rebel profile is going to change what designers expect from their gear? Like are we going to see more demand for this kind of flexibility and durability? I think so, yeah. People want fixtures that can do it all, creative effects, reliable in any environment and easy to maintain.
The days of having one light for indoors and another for outdoors are kind of fading. Designers want to be able to dream big and not worry about the gear holding them back. And honestly I'm curious to see what features people start asking for next. Maybe even more pixel control or who knows. AI driven effects. The bar just keeps getting higher. Well, I'm excited to see what's next, and I guess we'll be talking about those new Rebel Wash fixtures soon, right?
Absolutely. There's a lot more coming from elation and the whole industry really. But for now, that's a wrap on the Rebel profile. Thanks for hanging out, Laci. Thanks Chris, and thanks to everyone listening. We'll catch you next time on Geezers of Gear Future Tech Bye. Cheers everyone, see you soon. Music to your ears. Hey, hey, hey. Let's go.
