Geek Psychology: Play Life Better

Matt Shermangeekpsychology.com

I help geeks and gamers to play life better. As an INFP, I've spent a lot of time trying to understand myself, forcing myself outside of my comfort zone, finding my purpose in life, gaining self-confidence, and learning how to have better relationships. Personality type is one of the main models I use to help clients regain control over their lives, but I also tend to use Neuro-Linguistic Programming and hypnosis as well. Stay awhile and listen!

Never Regret Thy Fall | Fear of Failure Motivation

Send me a text You’ve probably heard the story of Icarus, who flew too close to the sun. I mean, most people have heard that one. But let’s take a look at what happened from another angle. What if we looked at this story from a different perspective? If we did, we might see something else entirely. What if instead of thinking of Icarus as a failure, or someone who didn’t listen to his father, or someone whose wings melted off because he was being reckless… what if we thought of him as a hero? Ne...

Living up to Your Highest Potential with Superheroes and Ancient Wisdom

Send me a text Superheroes and ancient wisdom are connected by the Greek philosophy of arete. The word comes from the verb “to work at” or “to exercise.” Arete was used to describe a person who had developed their talents through training and discipline. In other words, they had transformed themselves into someone who could accomplish things they never thought possible. Superheroes embody this type of transformation. They are ordinary people who, through a series of trials and tribulations, lear...

3 Ways to Improve Your Life: Combat, Diplomacy, Stealth

Send me a text You've probably heard of a trope in RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons called \"Combat, Diplomacy, Stealth\". It means that, when faced with a problem, you can either fight it head-on; talk your way out of it; or sneak your way around it. Well… life is kind of like that. There are going to be plenty of times where you feel like the only option is to just go full-on attack mode and fight through it—but most of the time, there's room for more than one approach. If fighting isn't working...

Why Do Opposites Attract In Personality Type?

Send me a text I saw a question asking why do opposites attract in myers-briggs personality types and wanted to give you some insights into it. I use ENFP, ISxJ (ISTJ and ISFJ), INFP, and ESTJ as examples. The really strong push and pull between relevant dominant and inferior cognitive functions makes you think \"Do opposites really work in a relationship?\" because sometimes they point out some sore spots in yourself and at other times they make up for your cost of specialization. I hope it hel...

The Magic Happens Outside of Your Comfort Zone

Send me a text I use this RPG trope taken from tvtropes.org, called \"Beef Gate\", to encourage and motivate you to stretch yourself, to step out of your comfort zone, and to challenge yourself to live a better life. It's been said that \"the magic happens outside your comfort zone\" and I fully agree. And to add to it, \"One does not simply walk into Mordor\" also seems to fit with the idea of earning our destiny through intentional struggle and effort. Send me a text Hey ISFPs! Do you ever get the feeling that somebody isn't telling you the whole story? ISFP relationship problems often come from a core aspect of your personality type. Seek Bigger Challenges in Life - Personal Growth for Gamers

Send me a text In a video game called life, the problems and obstacles you encounter are represented by various baddies and bosses. As you go deeper into the game, the baddies get bigger, stronger, and more numerous. And if you stop collecting coins and upgrades, your character (you) becomes weaker. Same with life. Send me a text Let's start by dispelling a myth. I know that you may be thinking, \"I'm an INFP and I'm not stressed about the future.\" And that's great! But let me tell you a little secret: we all stress out about the future. It's just part of being human—it's in our nature.
