¶ Political Clash: Trump vs. Musk
The lead story for Monday excuse me. Thursday Thursday, June fifth, a bitter political clash has exploded between president Trump and Elon Musk with Trump calling Musk crazy and vowing to end billions in federal contracts for Tesla, SpaceX, and other Musk run ventures. The feud stems from Musk's opposition to Trump's massive budget bill, which slashes electric vehicle credits. Musk retaliated with accusations, including a shocking Epstein related claim
and calls for Trump's impeachment. Tesla shares plummeted as tensions rose threatening Musk's extensive federal ties. Well, welcome to episode 1,284, and, wow, here we go. My goodness. You know, there there is call this predictable. Call this predictable. You know? As soon as I as as soon as the budget end up being this massive thing and, again, I I I know little about it except what, you know, the pundits are saying. And, of course, Doge was trying to do all those cuts, and then they only what?
They haven't even codified 9,000,000,000 of whatever they've found. You know, I go back to my original saying that I've said on this show for years, you know, the only solution for politicians just to to fire them all. And, you know, I I saw a poll. I saw Elon Musk called for a a new, new party. He may be onto something there, but this is these guys are not happy with one another.
And, essentially, you know, when when when, you know, you've had a guy that's been in there trying to save the government money and, you know, not making a lot of people, you know, very unpopular with, you know, the definitely with the left And, then saying cutting contracts, and then he's like, okay. I'll just, you know, I'm gonna cut government contracts. I said, well, I'll just start decommissioning Dragon spacecraft. A big war of words right now for sure.
But, you know, we know that Tesla's already had some challenges, but, man, it it just went south, after this this war blew up between, you know,
¶ The Budget Bill Fallout
the, you know, essentially, the world's richest man and the president. And, you know, Musk is you know, he wants efficiency. He wants the government to not spend more than it earns. I think we all can agree to that situation. And, oh my gosh. So there there is, this this is this is insane. And, you know, it's one of those situations where you, you know, you got two very strong minded individuals. And, you know, you you get one against the other, and your must doesn't have anything
really to lose. He said he could go broke. He doesn't care. So, Trump said it took his EV mandate to force everyone to buy electric cars that nobody wanted away, and he just went crazy. Well, I think, most, Tesla vehicles were no longer eligible for for electric vehicle rebates. And the electric vehicle credits, I think that was already gone for for Tesla for a long, long time. So I don't know if there's any truth to that. I maybe I'm not following it against.
But, you know, obviously, Elon is campaigning against the the big budget bill. And, you know, so this thing is just went went went nuclear. So, you know, people are people that hate hate Elon have went on the bandwagon to to say, investigate Elon's immigration status, his security clearance, and, you know, check go into his drug abuse and, you know, I'm just like, wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. So we'll see.
But again, you know, when you when you are the only show in town that has a repetitive basis to get to space, you know, of course, you're gonna get a lot of government money. You're gonna get a lot of government money to put government satellites up. You're gonna go have a lot of money for, you know, all the things that they're doing to get to get into space. So we'll see. But what a way to, to end a Thursday, to have this this thing this thing explode. But,
yeah. Gonna you know, I you know, I think I said long time ago. I think I said long time ago, you know, you know, keep your investment in popcorn. You know, because it's it's definitely gonna be entertaining and and, an interesting ride for sure.
¶ Elon Musk"s Call for New Party
So, I, you know, I can't say that I yeah. Yeah. I didn't necessarily predict this, but I'm not I'm not surprised. I'm not surprised. You know? And, but one thing for sure, there's more attention than there ever ever has been on the budget, And I think that's important. I think people need to realize we've been, you know, we've been spending too much money, for a long, long, long time. And, something has to give for sure.
I I know they have a strategy, but, you know, I don't necessarily think it means you you spend more money. Whatever you do, I think I think you just, again, I I think there's so much waste they haven't found. It's been hidden. I I am shocked that they've only found as much as they have to be to be quite frank. So, anyway and we'll see what happens over the weekend. Should be, should be good entertaining, good for numbers here on the show for
for a bit. But, yeah, for, Trump to say that Elon went crazy. Well, that's, that that's a statement, ladies and gentlemen. It really, really, really is. So,

So, welcome to the show. I have been, I always tell you guys I'm crushed. I'm crushed. I'm crushed. This week, let me just give you a kind of a rundown. Typical not typical.
Just busy. Recorded the show on Monday. Tuesday, I had an interview. Tuesday, I recorded a, a demo video of one of five for our stat system. Then Wednesday, so that's one, two, three. Wednesday, I did a, the new media show, that's four. This morning, I recorded another stats video five, then I did a Mythbuster six. What else? Now seven. So I think this is the seventh recording this week. So shaded editing. The stats demos take a while, plus planning, plus emails, plus reviews,
plus everything else. And, I'm stick a fork in me. I'm I'm ready for the weekend, in in a big, big way. So, but, yeah, it's, you know, all in a all in a week's work. And the, the, just, you know, busy busy busy. But then I'm trying to track down some unusual traffic coming to Geek News Central, super spike in traffic, and I cannot see which page it's going to.
And it has me concerned that something is going on, so I spent time in the website today making sure that there's not no funny business going on, and I can't find anything. So, we'll see we'll see what happens. Hopefully, I, I don't have something, something some bug have been introduced, but so far, no no sign of of, exactly where that traffic's going to, which is the concern.
When When you have a spike of traffic that, Google Analytics can see, but they can't define where it's going, that is suspicious. And, we're gonna keep it keep an eye on it. So, I don't have any information today for those of you that are insiders. I have not been able to pull that data or the PayPal one, so we'll get caught up with you on on Monday on that. But, in some more exciting news going on, a ship was abandoned off Alaska after electric cars on the onboard caught fire.
¶ Ship Abandoned After Electric Vehicle Fire
The good ship morning minus a roll on roll off ferry was delivering 3,000 vehicles from Yantai, China to Lazaro's Cardenas, Mexico. It's currently around 304 miles south of Adak, Alaska. The sailors of the Vesco operated by UK based Zodiac Maritime, knows the fire, could not put it out, and they abandoned ship. So this thing is, this thing is burning. It may be sunk by this point, but, yes, Chinese vehicles, electric batteries could not put the fire out.
Again, call me surprised, but, you know, water, water everywhere. None of it's useful. So, you know, water and electricity do not mix. Of course, salt water is even a better conductor than fresh water. And, of course, when salt water covers a lithium battery, it can cause a short circuit, and bad things happen when that happens. So, we'll see if we get any more updates on this. But the crew has been rescued. But far as I can tell, the ship is, is still burning and,
or maybe maybe sunk. I don't know. We'll see. This should not come as a surprise. Apple Store
¶ Apple Store"s Massive Sales Growth
generated nearly $1,300,000,000,000 in sales. 1,300,000,000,000.0. Think about that number for a second or two. And, the findings part of a report commissioned by Apple and performed by analysis group Jessica Burley and Boston University professor show the app store sales across biz physical and digital goods have exposed exploded over the past five years, claiming from 514,000,000,000 in 2019 to 1,290,000,000,000.00 last year.
Some 778% of sales, 1,010,000,000,000.00 worth came from physical goods and services, which include categories like general retail, travel, food, delivery, and ride hailing. Another 10% came from digital goods. In other words, they're getting 30% or 20% or 15% of every one of your Uber rides. So, and Lyft rides and food orders. So you can see why these companies are not happy about Apple taking this bigger cut.
$1,000,000,000,000 on the backs of other companies that could have at least a a larger percentage of that could have went to, to to those companies. So, you know, if you wonder why your Uber ride costs as much as it does, just remember, every time you o order an Uber, at least 15% of that went to Uber. I mean, went to Apple. About a small percentage of it went to the driver and the and the rest went to Uber. So,
yeah. I I bet you Uber I bet you Apple makes more on Uber rides than Uber does, to be quite, to be quite frank. Made in smart glass ambitions just got supercharged by the US government. A huge partnership with Lucky Palmer and Roll and shows that smart glass is about to have a big rollout, a new partnership. So, basically, it looks like they're gonna be pushing these products towards US government military.
And, they've all done private r and d, so the government has nothing in this, so there's no, there's no, you know, no no discount. But the their products are geared towards the US government and military. And, so we'll see. But with budget cuts, we'll see if they really do have a a big, big advantage here. So, again, big winners on this on all sides.
¶ Smart Glass Ambitions with Government
Fake IT support calls are leading to cyber extortion and stolen company data. Hackers are attacking or tricking employees into downloading malware. I mean, it's almost on a daily basis that I'm sending a Slack message to our team saying, hey. I got I got today in my email. I had, three, DocuSign documents that were fake. I had you know, I just continue to, you know, repeat to my group what I'm seeing in email and making sure they're not, reacting to this. And, you know, I got to thinking about
it. I wonder I wonder at some point if let's say it in the company that was being faked was Salesforce. I wonder at some point, there has to
¶ Fake IT Support Calls Lead to Cyber Crime
be a policy setup that's between Salesforce and the company they're supporting. That if anyone calls from Salesforce, they have to have, like, some special verification code. Now Now I know it's only as good, you know, maybe and maybe that circle is limited. You know, these 20 people can be can talk to Salesforce, and these 20 people know what the company's secret code word is between the companies to make sure you're really talking to someone at Salesforce.
I've thought about implementing at that at my company to saying, hey. You know, if you get a call from me and asking you to do something, you think it's me, but you wanna be sure maybe we should have some sort of, quote, unquote, secret handshake password or something like that, to prove authentic authenticity. I don't know. There's gotta be a way here for companies to to start, protecting themselves easier because 20 companies lost their data.
And they they they, this fake cybercriminal or this cybercriminal tricked, people to download malicious software and install it. So there has to there has to become a better way here for for validation that you're talking to who you're you're you are supposed, to be talking to, I I I would think. It's being reported that AirPods are set to get some nice free upgrades at WWDC twenty twenty five, including more gesture controls and sleep detection,
improved audio quality, and better connectivity too. So we will see if AirPods two and AirPods four get to may get camera control as well. So,
¶ Upcoming AirPods Upgrades at WWDC 2025
you know, the gesture stuff on AirPods, how many of you actually know the gestures besides tapping? I I I don't I I don't think everyone knows all the gestures. I I know. I don't. Probably should look them up. It may make it easier when I'm using, the AirPods. If you're using Chrome, please update it now. Your PC is at risk from a zero day exploit. And, so, you know, if if you right on my screen right now, it says new Chrome is available
right in the upper right. And I don't know if you guys can see this on the screen. New Chrome update available. So I'm at risk. So I need to update, my Chrome. So that gives you an update. It's when it's in the right hand corner, and if those of you that are listening, when you have Chrome available, you've seen the notification before. Right? So make sure you update your Chrome. There's a zero day out there, so I'll be sure to do this, immediately after the show tonight
as well. Normally, this computer has not been shut down for a couple of days. So normally when it reboots and it loads, it will update, without me having to click anything. But I haven't shut this particular computer down

a lot. Comedy Forecast said in the in the YouTube channel, he says that 30% adds up fast. The problem of the codes is the scammers are pretty good at figuring out how to get around anything that involves humans. So that, you know, that is true. You know? And at this point, you know, we've got everything and for comedy forecast, it's in the chat. We've got everything we've got everything we can under authenticators. That's super, super critical and sometimes double authentication.
I don't know. Will it help? If someone gets in your email, you're screwed. You know, there's ways around everything. So, the email is the most critical part. Waymo set to double to 20,000,000 rides as self driving reaching tipping point. Google self driving taxi service has surpassed 12,000,000 total paid rides. Wow. Marking significant milestone. The company's growth trajectory shows clear signs of exponential scaling with weekly weekly rides jumping from 10,000 in 2023 to over 250,000.
And, And, again, Waymo's on track to hit 20,000,000 rides by the end of twenty twenty five.
¶ Waymo’s Self-Driving Taxi Milestone
So but they're only operating in Phoenix, LA, San Francisco with expansion plan for Austin, Atlanta, Miami, and Washington DC. But think about that. That many rides in just those few cities. They're big, big cities, of course, but, that's amazing. How many of you have rode in a Waymo? I don't I think I never talked to anyone that has. I'd love to know. More than 3,000,000 records, 12 terabyte of data expose a major app builder breach. Here we go again.
Passion.io, a major no code app building app operating a non password protected database. So, again, found by a security researcher, and, it belongs again a company called Passion.io. Building platform allows creators, influencer, entrepreneurs, and coaches to create websites without having any prior coding knowledge. They can also create and sell interactive courses, but, 3,000,000 records. It seems like a small number these days, right, when you hear of all of the breaches
that are going on. Now don't be too surprised in the near future if your Amazon delivery person might be a robot. Amazon may be testing robot delivery people. Can the Amazon robot just hang out and protect my package to actually get it? In the image being shown for those of you watching live, whisper quiet Rivian EVA Amazon delivery truck pulls up to your front door. And before

the driver even has a chance to step out, the back of the, van blast open and out jumps this, robot carrying a package to your doorstep. And, instead of a humanoid robots taking delivery cruise jobs, humanoid robots would work in tandem, quote, unquote, until they don't. Until that van is self driving, knows exactly where to park, and the robot never forgets where to put your package. You're not you know, here, here, we've got four different doors, front door, side door, back door, my door.
Sounds kinda weird. Right? And you never know where a package is gonna be left from day to day. But if you have a specific place you want the packages delivered, the robot at least won't forget where to do it. The drivers don't know because the driver can change from day to day. And most of them are lazy. They put them in places where they're easiest to steal. So the robot may not do that. I don't
know. The FBI warns play ransomware hackers have hit nearly a thousand US firms, and this just goes on and on. And those of you that have companies that are largely Windows based, display ransomware known as PlayScript. PlayCrypt is a ransomware that attacks mostly Windows machines.
They're also going after Linux now. So that means that, you know, this could trickle over into, Macs, but it what they also are having a challenge with, even though I'm running running malware bytes on all my computers, I'm running Norton antivirus. Each time they go after a specific company, they do a new encode of the executable, and, it's very hard to detect because it has a new basically, a new, what what's the word I wanna use here? Has a new, signature. So
just beware. It it's it's only gonna increase. Be careful. Careful. Careful. If you live in the, state of California operating mobile vehicle and you're holding your phone looking at a map, it is illegal.
¶ California"s Phone Laws While Driving
So, basically, they have ruled, and in 2016 law intended, strengthen previous restrictions, alleged they intended to prohibit all handheld functions of wireless cell phones while driving and encourage drivers to keep their eyes on the road. I will tell you this from experience, having gotten a ticket in Las Vegas, years ago, do not even touch your phone at a stoplight. That was $250.
So they're serious about it there, and they use motorcycle police to roll up to you and look inside your car and see if you're, if you're holding your phone. I and I literally it was in a rental, of course, and there's no place to put the phone. I had it plugged in, and, of course, I'm at a stoplight. And I look at my phone as I confess and, whoo, pulled me over and wrote me a ticket. So, be careful out there. And I was, again, at a stoplight. Doesn't
matter. In California, you can't be looking at your map either, so get yourself a phone holder. And then, you know, touching your phone and changing the map, you can't what about touching your dashboard? Is that illegal? Touching the controls in your in your, screen on your on your, what if you have a tablet that's mounted? Is that illegal? That's a question. Right? Not much difference. Right? Okay. The, little bit of science news. So think about this one here, ladies and gentlemen.
What if the big bang wasn't the beginning? A new research suggests that it may have taken place inside a black hole. Or the better question is, are we in a black hole at this point? Now, the Big Bang often described as the closest birth of the universe, a singular moment when space, time, and matter sprang into existence from something. But they're saying, what if that was not the beginning? What if our universe emerged from something else? Something more far, far radical.
¶ The Big Bang Theory Reevaluated
And they proposed that it, we we all came out of a black hole. Alright. I'll I'll leave you Science Nerd to read up on that one. Meanwhile, NASA is withdrawing support for conferences. They've walked away from, two conferences, the Center for Achievement of Space in Science in Space. It's not the name of the conference, though. It's called the inter the International Space Station National Laboratory has determined Anyway, couple of conferences. ISSDRDC
or something like that. And the I AIAA, because of budget cuts, NASA is not gonna be able to participate and sponsor those events. Conferences are not cheap, so
¶ NASA Withdraws Conference Support
but it's, it's a sign of the times. Strawberry Moon 2025, June's full moon to light up the sky this month. So, what is the date? Although the moon will technically be at full phase at 03:45AM eastern on Wednesday, June 11, the best time to view it is actually going to be last night. B last night. Oh, b last night, Tuesday, June 10 as the sun sets. Oh my god. They could they broke that horrible. Not last night. The night before, they should've said.
So, anyway, the moon rises slow, so there's interaction between sun and moon and whatever happens there, but,
¶ Tesla"s Self-Driving Data Controversy
be on the lookout. Tesla's trying to stop certain self driving crash data from becoming public. The company claims information is confidential, disclosing it may benefit competitors. So they've asked the judge to block the request for the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration to disclose certain data related to crashes involving vehicles that have self driving features. So in other words, n h NHTSA wants that data, and Tesla says, no. We don't want to.
So we will see where this one goes. I think all this crash data should be made public, to be frank. I think if we are gonna ever get to the point where the public completely trust self driving vehicles, I know many of you have full solid full SD FSD with Tesla, and you're quite happy with it. But, again, if there's been accidents and people have gotten hurt, I think the public needs to know so that you have, that you have a you you have a you have an idea what's happening.
Apple and Samsung smartphone growth to take hit from tariffs uncertainty,
¶ AT&T"s New Senior Mobile Plan
quote, unquote. So Apple shipments are expected to grow 2.5% year on year while Samsung shipments are expected to be flat. They said that they revised down its overall 25 global smartphone shipment forecast to 1.9% year on year and 4.2, citing renewed uncertainties. So globally. But, we will see. I think people just have an appetite for this stuff and are just gonna continue to buy it. I really do. Now
we all wear seat belts. I I don't think I've gotten in a vehicle in the last ten years where I've had to look around and ask passengers to put on their seat belts. I may have forgot to put on my seat belt once or twice for a very short period of time, and then the car is dinging at me. Ding. Ding. Ding. Ding. But Volvo is introducing the first multi adaptive seat belt technology on the e x 60 e v. The system can take a passenger's profile into
account. So in other words, if you're a fat boy, and I'm gonna use Min as the example here, if the pastor is large, for instance, they'll receive a higher belt load setting to reduce reduce the risk of head injury in the event of a serious crash. For milder crashes, someone with a smaller frame will receive a lower belt load setting to prevent rib injuries. But we didn't specify if the system also takes the position of a seat belt on women into account, so that said it doesn't always fit right
over some women's chest. However, the automaker explained that the system expands the number of load limiting profiles to 11. Load limiters control how much force a seat belt applies on the body during a crash. Typically, these seat belts only have three load limiting profiles, but Volvo's expanding them to 11. And they use this from, database of 80,000 people involved in real life accidents to design the new settings, which is curious. Very, very curious as well.
So these scooters, of course, they were all over London too, and a lot of people were riding them. But one thing was different in London, for those scooters. They weren't just thrown in the middle of nowhere. At least I didn't see them being thrown everywhere. But Lime has renewed vows with Uber ahead of the busy summer system. Lime is a shared scooter bike company that's getting ready for another another summer. And, you're gonna see them in US, Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
So, they're extending the relationship, but I hate these things. I really hate these things. Even in London, I was dodging people that were riding these little scooters. Now that wasn't specifically lime, but whatever they were, they were green, but maybe they were lime. I don't know. But everything is just, you know, some people riding those things should not be riding those things.
If you're a fan of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, they're headed to streaming new apps new episodes of both game shows appear on Hulu and Peacock one day after they air on TV. So if you are a Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune fan and you have Hulu or Peacock, you'll be able to watch Jeopardy. I can't even tell you. Honestly, the last time I watched Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy, it's probably been just even accidentally, Maybe ten years. Yeah. Maybe ten years. I it's been a while for sure.
Reddit has sued Anthropic, alleging its bots access Reddit more than a hundred thousand times since July. So Reddit is on the warpath. And in the filing, Reddit calls Anthropic a late blooming artificial intelligence company that bills itself as a white knight of the AI by stealing everything. So we'll see where in this leads, if it leads to anything, but Reddit is suing Anthropic. Now AT and T, I and, again, I haven't used an AT
and T product. You guys know part those of you who've been here for a while know my experience with AT and T and know that I had, for many, many, many, many years, banished them and black and blacklisted them from any purchases that I have ever made. And to be honest with you, they can't remember what they did. They did something. So, you know, I've been at T Mobile and, of course, Verizon is the carrier that my company pays
my phone for. But, AT and T is debuting a new discounted senior mobile plan, and that's for those of you 55 above. They're calling us senior citizens. I just wrapped up a birthday and, you know, I'm getting close to that, proverbial year where if I have to deserve decide if I'm taking Social Security or not. No. I'm not quite there yet, but I'm getting closer. And but, anyway, customers 55 and up can sign up for this new plan that's cheaper than the carrier's other plan is available across
The US. How much cheaper is it? So it's a bare bones offering for $40 a month for a single line. Okay. You get unlimited voice calls, texting, and data in The US, Canada, Mexico. And though AT and T senior plan indicates it has five g access included, there's no clarity on which circumstance will enable high speed data downloads and uploads on the senior plan.
The plan also has 10 gigs of hotspot data per month and a maximum of 720 p SD streaming suites for video, which is okay in a mobile device. They offered a slightly discounted senior phone before at $62. So this is quite a bit of an improvement
to the plan. So those of you that are looking to save money and don't need a business phone or don't you know, you're just you're just gonna be doing calling and texting, and this may be a great plan for those of you 55 plus or $40 per month or 35 per month with two lines if you have a significant other. But I like the unlimited voice calls in US, Canada, and Mexico. Although T Mobile has it beat hands down for international.
Hands down. I you know, like I said, international has worked everywhere I've went with my, T Mobile phone. Although, because I've been traveling so much internationally, I know from reading forums, T Mobile starts to kinda look at those accounts. And, you may get throttled a little bit more than others just because you travel so much. So I always buy an eSIM and have a data plan. So I'm using data from a local carrier, then I keep the the telephone and texting on,
for regular communications. I just have the data only on the eSIM, which is kinda tricky from a configuration standpoint, but it it seems to work out. Because everything and this is another thing. When I'm on Verizon internationally, I I do an eSIM on that and convert everything over, but yet and my tech still come through, though. And the techs are much cheaper, but third, you know, two party validation is part you have to have text.
You have to. You go international. You try to log in to anything, and you have two factor authentication. One of them is a text. If that text plan isn't turned on, you're not logging in to anything.
