David and Jonathan shared a very unique and special, God-given bond. 1 Samuel 18:1 says that their souls were knit together and we know that no one is able to knit souls together accept God Himself. The Greek word for this kind of love is “philia” and it refers to the kind of love that exists between friends. God knew that David was about to go through some very difficult and trying times and having someone in his corner, someone looking out for him, and someone that would support and love him was going to make all the difference. What a wonderful truth that the Lord Jesus is with us always, but that He also willingly provides “Jonathans” in our lives through the Church. We all have Jesus...but who is your Jonathan
