You know he has in his contract that he gets out of doing the show once every two years. And we couldn't start with more sad news this morning. Jimmy Buffett, the singer songwriter known for Margaritaville, dying last night at age seventy

six. His website social media said Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September one, surrounded by his family, friends, music, and dogs. He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many. It also said God speed, Thank you for everything, Jimmy. A lot of people don't know this. I found

out this one this morning. I've never heard this story about Margaritaville, which was inducted into the Library of Congress National Recording Registry just about three or four months ago April of this year. Margaritaville in there early in the nineteen seventies. Jimmy buff said he was a little known singer songwriter. After a rough

night in Austin, Texas. He had a tasty margarita at a bar, and the next day he was still sipping his margaritas, he started scribbling a song on a cocktail nap and finished it later on while stuck in traffic on the seven Mile Bridge in the Florida Keys And he played Margarita for the first time in a little bar that night in Key West when the song was about

six years old. Incredible. We're gonna miss him, especially here in the Cincinnati area with all the parrot heads and where the parrot heads were born. Jimmy Buffett dying at seventy six last night, five forty three. Last night, I was at the King's Walnut Hills game. It was like thirty five nothing Kings at halftime and guess what happened? They were throwing donuts in the

student section. I almost got knocked over by a Crispy Cream last night, Liam, but I made it in doesn't sound too bad. No, but it was only like half of a Krispy kreame there. But they almost got me Red's last night. Tell me what happened after they lost the first game of the doubleheader. Yeah, after losing the first game six two to start out today, they had an amazing comeback win in the bottom of the ninth down two one, Nick Martini ties the game and no Vla Marte hits a

walk off single to win the game. Last night already, and then the FC's playing tonight. Yeah. FC is at home at seventh already at TQL Stadium and you can catch that game on ESPN fifteen thirty tonight. Did we miss any sports so far? Is that it? I believe that's all we have. It's time to hit the Dayton Dick from Dayton Dick. How's it hanging? Oh are you doing? Stave? Long time? No talk?

How you been been good? Every two years they call me from the farm and asked me if I can fill in for Gary Jeff Walker. So that's what it is. I won them my condolences. I was a big Jimmy Buffet fan. He is great, you know. Did you see him in concerts? No? I never did, but I always bought a lot of his CDs. I'd play in the car. It was a great guy.

I got to see him several times. In fact, I worked for a radio station here in Cincinnati when he was in town and outside of Riverbend, we did bungee for Buffett, so before the show, people could come out and bungee jump and Jimmy Buffett, they drove him out, I think in a limo or something. He watched a couple of people bungee jump there. But yeah, sad news, breaking news this morning. Jimmy Buffett dies at seventy six last night. Sad news this morning, Dick, Yeah,

it was. That's pretty sad. But I'm telling you, when he hit that home run last night, I said the red I thought they were down. But when he hit that home run, I had some feeling that they were going to pull that game off. And they've had a good gear, I think, and I want to see him get in the wild card, but I think this next probably twenty games, is gonna the tale. But

I'm I'm pretty proud of them this year. Steve, absolutely, I had no I was one of the nonbelievers at the beginning of the year and said they're going to lose a hundred again. And as the summer went on, it was just fascinating to watch this team for the first time in many, many years, catch up Reds games, listening to it every time I got in my car right here on the Home of the Reds. It was just an incredible year, and we, like you said, we got to keep

it up the next month. Yeah, yeah, And I was just wanted to tell you and your producer, as Harry Gift probably told you, I retired from Lows, but I'm I'm playing in uh, you know, the string as them up a lot in the Dan Joe and then the you can miss these jam sessions. And I learned all that from my dad's family. God bless them. They're all in peace. But I'd love to play music. So maybe sometime up there I'll have to play for you, you know, absolutely, I'll have to do that. Dick. I gotta go,

but thanks for Colin to talk to you in two more years. You can talk to Gary Saturday. All right, all right, say good night, Say good night, did good night bye bye? Seven hundred w l W the Jimmy Buffett song that mentioned Cincinnati there's your trivia question, you know that

As we remember Jimmy Buffett, who passed away last night at age seventy six, here's that Cincinnati song. She came

down Scinnati. It took her three days home and train looking person Peace and pie. Yeah, hold to see the song again. That lived down by or Shine. She's taking care of a little shocks. They hang out and and they came ride after dark. It be a little hunting room. You got the right. You're the Army band. I thought it was so cool when I moved to Cincinnati to go to Lakota High School in nineteen seventy nine, But there was a song on the radio that actually mentioned my new hometown

she came down from Cincinnati. The other Jimmy Buffett Cincinnati connection you may not know about, but parrot head coined in nineteen eighty five at a concert at Timberwolf Amphitheater right here in Cincinnati. At King's Island, Buffett commented about everyone wearing Hawaiian shirts, parrot hats, things like that coming to his shows, just like deadheads. And Timothy B. Schmidt, who was a member of the Eagles but at that time was a member of the Coral Reeferband, coined

the phrase parrot head to describe him at Timberwolf. That's neat there. It's six o nine on seven hundred w WELW the Saturday morning edition. Dave from Harrison always with Gary Jeff. Hey, good morning, Dave. How are you good? Stave about yourself? I'm bumming this morning because of Jimmy Buffett, but other than that, couldn't be better. How about you? Were you at this morning? Harrison? Yes, all right. It's like good changes in latitudes, changes in app tids, that is that is a good

one. Also, I like that one. Did you see Jimmy Buffett in concert? Ever? Never? Have I always wanted to? Never did? I'm just waiting. Now, there's nothing better than setting on the front porch on a lazy summer evening or a weekend, having a cold brew, and if you're not listening to the Reds on this radio station, maybe cranking up some Jimmy Buffett. It just means so much more now. Yep, yep, hey, Steve, what do you get when you cross a chicken with

a robber a chicken with a robber? I have no idea. You get a peck pocket, you know. Oh, they get better, don't they see what's long and orange and flies at the speed of sound? Long and orange and flies at the speed of sound. I'm almost afraid to ask it's a jet propelled carrot? Oh goodness, they're not. They're not getting better, Dave. I know Stephen the principal asks. He says, do you know a kid named Alex? And uh the kid's tongue says, yup,

he sleeps right next to me in geometry? That sounds like me in high school or great scope. Happy September though, there you go, it's September? Is it September two? Now? There you go? You know that means that means college football? Dave, There you go. Have a great weekend. We'll talk to you next week with Gary Jeff. Okay, alrighty, all right, Dave from Harrison seven hundred w l W. It is six twelve, Lilliam's got sports and just a little bit high school talking,

When I think radio, I think old Radio Rick, Hey, Good morning Aldradio. Rick, How are you doing there? Hey? Good morning Steve Hey? And what I think of Steve Hawkins? I always think of Crowsley. Why not. That's

right, you fixed up a crosley for me? What was that? Well, so this morning was going to talk about the tale of three Crowsley's. Yours is a small wood Crowsley fiber from nineteen thirty seven. Wow. Meanwhile, mine is a Crosley Presto Tune twelve twelve tube Behemoths floor model from the same year. And the cool thing about it is I had to wherewithal to take a picture of yours before I return it to you. It's sitting on top of mine, and it's like one twelfth side. You sent me that

picture years ago too. That and I talked to Alex Eagan, who was working. Yeah, Alex told me that I think you fixed up his crosley. Also, haven't gotten a chance to touch it yet. His is like a sideways version of yours in a bakel case. And if if the opportunity comes up, that will be the first time I touch a bake like fiber. I've never seen one before. And it's just as pretty as yours in mine are. Yeah, but he stole his. Well, I heard a

lot of rumors about him. So, hey is you said? Mine's a nineteen thirty six Crosley that I have, either a thirty six or a thirty seven. They make both years because they were very popular, So it's popular. It's worth a gazillion dollars that I could sell on eBay, right, well, as long as you're doing bitcoin. Sure, it's really it's really hard to say, because it is all a matter of what a person is

looking for. Valuing radios is extremely difficult than nice things about yours. It is a two band, it does pick up good short wave, it's got the beautiful gold dial. They didn't all have that, and you could actually ship yours. Mine would take a trucking freight company to sell it to some oster state, and then it still may not make it. Mine would be harder to sell than yours, for sure. Are you listening to us this morning on one of those crosleys you got there on that big prestit tune twelve?

You better believe it in with that fourteen inch speaker. Holy how you're filling the whole house. Surprise, my wife still asleep? Which is more common now the real big gigantic crosley that you have, or the small tabletop one I have. Oh, the smaller tabletop ones are far more common because they were far more affordable. This prest tune twelve actually came out of out of an estate in Bloomington, Illinois, from a couple of wonderful and very

centric sisters who live by themselves for years and collected really expensive things. And in the process of the decades they lived there, at some point they redid a room upstairs and basically sealed it off, and it was all but forgotten, and the executors of the estate were walking around the house going, wait a minute, there aren't as many rooms as there are windows. What's going on down the room? And this radio and several other treasures were in there.

Wow. All Radio Rick, do you have a website or anything anybody could go to see or anything? Well, you can reach out to me at the Old Radio Rick at gmail dot com. And there's also a website which is Old Radio Rick dot com and it's almost never updated, but you can still find me there. All right. You know, in Gary Jeff's contract he gets one day off every two years, so I'll talk to you

in two years. Okay, excellent, look forward to Steven. All right, Al Radio Rick seven hundred wl W listen, think that Scott Sloan protects me from shark attacks. He'll be back next week. It's time to go to ed Ohio. This morning, Steve's with us. Ay, good morning, how are you? How are you doing? I'm doing good. Now they get to talk to you. All right, We're gonna have the news of the week in just a second. But first of all, a quiz in honor of the Reds. All Right. In nineteen fifty nine, Steve the Reds hired a spring training conditioning coach who was this famous coach I will tell you in the end,

all right. This week we saw the spectacle of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell staring into space when to ask a question about seeking re election to his Senate seat. It was the second time in recent months that he froze in front of the microphone. This is a big problem for Mitch. You can't

get caught in Washington, DC just saying nothing. We've watched Dianne Feinstein, Nancy Pelosi, John Fetterman, Joe Biden, and Commy Harris on a daily basis butter this, that, and utter nonsense in front of a camera. But never did they freeze. But Mitch's frozen face on a stick reminded me of that kid in the sixth sense who told this psychologist, I see dead people. It's critical in DC to convince the electorate that you are alive.

Biden himself proves that the only qualification for president in the eyes of the public these days is to have a pulse and move your lips. I'm going to cut and Mitch them slack here and assume that he is actually totally cognizant and is attempting to secure the Democrat Party nomination for president. Granted, he's a nominal Republican, but saying you're a Republican doesn't make you a Republican these days. However, to pull this off, Mitch, you're going to have to

actually say something when ask a question. The media will take care of the rest. You have never questioned the results of the twenty twenty presidential election, so you're in good standing with the people who tell us what's going on. American voters liked their presidents to at least have the semblance of being alive. We've had four presidents shot to death and four more die of natural causes while in office. It's a key element of the American value system that we do

the right thing then and we bury our dead presidents. We don't like to prop them up in a chair for the rest of their term, as they do in backwards civilizations. It would have been nice to have Abe Lincoln's staff finished reconstruction after the Civil War, with Abe's corpse still in the Oval office. But the Washington Press Corps can't hide everything all the time, so someone you know would have spilled the being. But it's a nice thought. It

would have saved us from Andrew Johnson. Yes, Mitch, Joe Biden is the new normal for American presidents. You may think taking a flop can get you a million votes, but this deer in the headlights gambit is not working. Wishing you the best, your sometimes constituent, Steve. Now, the answer to the question is recently fired Notre Dame football coach Terry Brennan. Steve, I just finished a book. It's a great book called Though the Odds

Be Greater or Small on Terry Brennan. And I'll tell you this guy really really got screwed by Notre Dame. I went to Notre Dame. My cousin went there ahead of me during this era, and I love this book. He died at ninety three in twenty twenty one. Just a great guy by any testimony of people who knew him. The you know, the other event this week, Steve, if we got time here, maybe about ten seconds or so, that absolutely blew my mind. I've said you know, Gary

It is Labor Day weekend, and if you're going, they say, be prepared for bigger, bigger crowds than last year. Domestic bookings for flight hotels rental cars cruises up four percent over last year. The top destinations for Labor Day Seattle, Orlando, Anchorage, Alaska, New York, and Las Vegas. Those are the top five destinations. And

the best time to travel actually is Sunday tomorrow. That's the minimal traffic impacts. The best time to drive on other days they say today. If you're headed out, you want to do so after six o'clock. One of the worst times to drive for Labor Day weekend is this morning between ten and about four, and the other worst time is between ten and six on Monday.

it's just part of our scientific education, not indoctrination. Real quickie, Uh you know, there's a lot of been a lot of buzz about plastic pollution in the ocean, and and the various people, uh, you know, cities of banned plastic straws, even though commercial fishing equipment is by far the over half of the plastic pollution, and people have turned to paper straws thinking that they're more environmentally friendly. Well, uh, back on August twenty

five, this was on Box News. They reported that Belgium researchers have found that so called environmentally friendly paper straws released more quote forever chemicals, damn damn plastic and the term forever forever chemicals. They all know if it's forever, but these the chemicals that resist degradation in the environment, including your body. So so you may want to rethink using paper straws. And the second item is one of my favorite organizations is c Fact. That's the letter c fact

dot org. This past Wednesday they issue the release scientis science. Climate Experts declare quote there's no climate emergency. Over sixteen hundred experts, engineers, scientists, including Nobel laureates. The most recent one is John Klouser. He won the twenty twenty WHO Nobel Prize for physics. They have signed a declaration that calls for an end to exaggeration and scare monitoring over climate and a return to

solid scientific and policy analysis. And quote and this is from the declaration. Quote climate science should be less political, while climate policy policies more scientific, and particular scientists should emphasize that they're modeling. Output is not the result of magic. Computer models are human made, otherwise seeing garbage in, garbage out. So and we talked about this with Gary Jeff All these models have proven

very wrong. Six points that the declaration makes natural as well as human factors cause warming. Greed warming is far slower than predicted. That as the models have been wrong, climate policy relies on bad models. CO two is a plant food. Believe it or not, This is a scientific fact. Without CO two, there will be no life on Earth. Global warming has not increased natural disasters. Here's something you've whether it's hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts,

flooding, nothing is increasing anymore. Some de fact hurricanes are on a slight decline, and climate policy must respect scientific and economic realities. Basically, there's no climate emergency. There's no cause for panics and alarm. This is good news. Yeah, I like good news on a Saturday morning. Steve, all right, thanks, that's what I got, Stave. I appreciate it. Thanks so much. Have you ever been to the South of France? Did he invite you to go? No? Not me, no, no, he was bragging. Well, well, today I wanted to talk to you about the over indulgence of probiotics and people just sucking down probiotics like they're free and they usually

and they usually I don't need to be taken in probiotics. I'm most likely they have a digestive issue and they and they need to be taken, you know, taken in a digestive enzymes because uh, you know, our digestive enzymes. A protease amylase and and a lipase are what actually a breakdown on the macro nutrients into micronutrients. So protease it takes in breaks down a protein into amino acids. Amalase breaks down carbohydrates into simple sugars, and a light

pace breaks down a lipids all facts into fatty acids. And when we do that, it makes it makes it much much easier for your actual probiotics that are in or the or the good bacteria in your gut to to do what it's supposed to do. And most people really don't even understand the digestive process.

So we need if you take in a probiotic, you have to keep taking in a probiotics because if you're not taken in a prebiotic, which is basically the food that feeds the bacteria, in order to create a postbiotic, which is basically the poop from that actually helps us digest uh our our food and makes our gut uh you know good and and and able to pass things. Uh, we don't, uh, we don't unnecessarily understand that most of

the time. So yeah, so we want to be taken in a more digestive enzymes and foods that are that U well, that will help the digestive system and not I just keep taking in a probiotics all right, Roco, thanks so much. How can our listeners connect with you or can they well, yeah, you can always go to a Rizanna Worldness at a five nineteen a Madison Avenue, all right and a covering ten, or you can go to a Rasonawellness dot com. I don't think Johnny Carson's people made Gary Jeff Walker's contract because Gary gets a Saturday off every two years.

So that's where Gary is, and he's off on a very sad Saturday. Breaking news that we started covering this morning about five thirty when it was announced a legendary Margaritaville singer Jimmy Buffett has died at the age of seventy six, Obviously known from Margaritaville his anthem That will Live Forever. A statement released on the website late Friday night said Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September

one, surrounded by his family, friends, music, and dogs. He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many. It also had a caption, godspeed and thank you for everything, Jimmy. So there you go. You may recall that earlier this year, he postponed a concert in Charleston, South Carolina, after an unexpected trip to the hospital to address some issues that needed immediate attention is

what he called it. He felt well enough to quote Mark Twain. These words from Mark Twain about life changes, he wrote, quote seemed perfect to pass on at this time. Challenges, he said, make life interesting. However, overcoming them is what makes life meaningful. So we lost a legend, Jimmy Buffett dead at age seventy six. All right, as we roll on, this is when we used to talk to Jim La Barbara. Jim's

off this week too, talking rock and roll archaeology. This is Labor Day weekend, and some of the biggest songs out there about working is what we're going to cover this morning on the Saturday edition. Remember the song working for a Liven by Huey Lewis in the News. It was released in nineteen eighty two. It was on the album Picture This. It went to number twenty on the Main Street Rock charts, number forty one on the Billboard Hot one

hundred. According to Huey Lewis, the song was a semi autobiographal by autobiographical I should say about his past jobs he had before he became a musician. He wrote it during his time as a truck driver, and also in the song they say busboy and bartender, he also had those jobs before he became

a musician. You may remember the song was in the movie Big nineteen eighty eight starring Tom Hanks, and about fifteen years ago, Huey Lewis recorded the song I Don't Remember This One, a duet with country music singer Garth Brooks on Brooks's album The Ultimate Hits, and it was Huey Lewis's first parents on the Hot country Songs, some of the biggest Labor Day songs. Working for a Living Huey Lewis and the News. Here's a bit of it. Somebody

won't n ever and somebody vestled by. I'll be working in Perrida at least some dinner dine. Damned if you do, Damn if you don't. I'm supposed to get the risks. We can do that when I won't blag and father Lenna the Dragon working, father La bag Buttonlen, damn don't working. I'm taking what they're given. Couse, I'm working for a Lenn Hey, I'm not compettercause already need to work. But in my body's got the feeder. Not conjourn but a dollar condo two hundred I canna take on Friday.

I'm taking what they're given because I'm working for a list, right. I hope you got a three day weekend working for a living Huey Lewis and the News. As we roll through some of the biggest working songs in rock and roll history, here's the next one by a Canadian rock band called Loverboy, working for the weekend. On this one, not just living, but for the weekend. It was from their second studio album called Get Lucky, written

by the guitarist Paul Dean and vocalist Mike Reno drummer Matt Frenette. It was released as the lead single from the album in October nineteen eighty one, went to number twenty nine on the US Billboard Hot one hundred charts. Uh Paul Dean, the guitarist, said it originated he was out walking on a beach on a winday afternoon and he was wondering where everybody was because the beach was deserted, and he said, I guess everybody's just Waiting for the weekend.

Mike Reno, the band's vocalists, suggested they changed the title to working for the Weekend, and they wrote the song in a hotel room following a Montreal concert at the band. At the time, the band wasn't very popular, but they put that song out and that's really what sparked their career nineteen eighty two when it became a really big hit. Here it is loverboy working for the weekend. Come out to get it right, Get right. Everybody is working. You want to be someone you gotta love her, boy, big

working song for a labor day weekend. Up next, We're headed country. Forty hour a week for a Living. Remember that song by the band Alabama as we relive some of the biggest workingman songs out there and working ladies songs written by Dave Loggins, Don Schlitz and Lisa Silver. I believed Dave Loggins is the guy that did the song Please Come to Boston, and I believe Donchlitz is the guy that wrote Kenny Rogers the Gambler. I could be wrong

on that. It was the second single and title track from Alabama's album Forty Hour week became their seventeenth number one song on August third, nineteen eighty five, and in Bill Malone, the country music historian, said, it is a rare country music tribute to the American worker. And it is. And here's the tribute to you, the American worker. This morning, Alabama, forty hour week. There are people in this country. You work hard every

day. Not the fame of fortune do they strive. Look at free exhib Their labor are worth more than their pay. And it's time you film we recognize. Hello be John all the wader, letting them think all your time you worked the mornier we are living, just to send it all down line. Hello, pits fertil nil worker, letting the thank you call your time you weren't the boyar We call living, just to send it all down line.

This is all the one queens, the hammer driving on the nail all the one time, the counter ringing up to send on the one who finds the fire the while, Alabama, you're the working man there forty hour weeks, seven hundred W L. W. Steve Hawkins and for Gary Jeff Walker. Look at us. Some of the biggest working of songs that are out there for Labor Day weekend and one of the biggest working songs out there that gets a lot of accolades. name, It was released as a single in November of nineteen eighty. It guarded an Academy Award nomination four Grammy Award nominations. It won the Singer the Awards for Best Country Song Best Country Vocal Performance for a Female. For a time, the song became the anthem for the office workers in the USA, and in two thousand and four, the song was ranked number seventy eight on

By age nine, he was playing in talent contests and just other things. The song was written by David allan Coe. A lot of people don't realize that it inspired a nineteen eighty one film of the same name and probably the most popular working man and working lady song in the entire world for Labor Day weekend.

How are you, hey, Steve? It is a sad,

just like deadheads from the Great Grateful Dead. I am on a boat in South Florida and we get the news that Jimmy Buffett has passed. Wow, yes, I just you know,

if maybe if I'd stayed in Cincinnati, he'd still be alive. I'm not sure how many a buffet concerts you've been to? Several buffet concerts. I never went, but I talked to I got a text from my friend JR. John Ryder earlier today said really struggling this morning, huge Buffet fan, went to over fifty concerts, and there's so many people listening who have shared the same experiences. You. Absolutely I got to I got to a couple at Riverbend. In fact, at a radio station I used to work at.

We did bungee for Buffett across from Riverband, and he actually somebody drove him out before the show and he watched a couple of people bungee right there. I just couldn't believe it that Buffett would be standing there watching people bungee for Buffett. I guess for tickets and stuff. We were having fun with it, but that's my biggest memory right there. But it happened this morning,

I heard it on the radio, all right, the grandfather clok has the dong. I'm out, yere out Hey, MO, Good morning MO. How are you?

I don't know. I don't know how I follow that. I don't either. I'm not even sure it's appropriate for radio. So if you if you are emailing the programming department here, make sure you say that was Gary Jeff Walker on the phone talking to somebody. MO. I want to ask you about you see, but I want to ask you something first. As we get going here, we got FC Sincinnata Red's both playing tonight. Has anybody

asked you this this year? Which are you more surprised what what you see are, what FC Cincinnati has done this year, or what the Cincinnati Reds have accomplished this year. It's a good question. The answer for me is the Reds. Look. FC Cincinnati was a playoff team last year, and you know, I think even your most hardcore supporters would be lying if they said they thought they would be in the driver's seat for the supporters shield in

Major League Soccer as the calendar flips to September. But you know, the expectations for this team were pretty high. I think everybody realized, you know, with Pat Newton and Chris Albright. FC Cincinnati's leadership is really really good. They put together a really good roster, locking in Roman Celentano there their goalkeeper for a long term deal now in recent days, but I think most

expected this team was going to play in the playoffs. I think with the Reds, they were awful last year, lost a hundred games, you know, a game away from the worst season in the history the franchise. To go from that to being in the middle of Labor Day weekend and they're in the sick of a wildcard race, I nobody saw that coming. Nobody saw that coming. And you know, there have been excuse me, Steve,

a lot of frustrations with how they've played in the month of August. But I keep saying, there's sort of like a boxer that has been sort of just sort of pummeled into the corner. They're wobbly, they're staggering, but they're still standing, especially after last night. Yeah, and at the beginning of the year, quite honestly, I got to admit I thought this was another hundred year season based on everybody for the most part, has kind of

pulled their weight at different times this year, maybe not all together. But you've got all these rookies and they've built a foundation for the future. Yeah, And I think what's most surprising about this team. You know, back in March, if you said, okay, well what's going to take for the Reds to be more competitive this year? I think everybody would have said, well, the big three is going to end up being really, really good. Graham Ashcraft, Hunter Green, and Nicolodolo. Graham Ashcraft has for

the most part been very good. He obviously missed some time, but he also had a really rough month of Bay. But Hunter Green, his start the other day in San Francisco got was standing. Hunter Green hasn't really given this team that much, certainly not as much as you hope for. Hopefully his final five starts end up being really good. And I love how he

pitched against the Giants on Wednesday afternoon. And Nicklodolo has made a grand total of four starts this year, and I don't think we're going to see him at any point the remainder of twenty twenty three. And so I think how they've gotten there, how they've gotten to this point, And you're right, it's the nucleus is extraordinarily young. You know, they have played an all rookie infield, they have had a starting lineup this year that has included eight

rookies and a rookie starting pitcher. All of that is part of the foundation that I think has a really really bright future and more than a hunch's chance to be playing in October. Good and FC Cincinnati has a chance to win it all this year, you think, I think, without question, you know, we were lucky enough. On our show, we chat on a frequent basis with you know, some of the Apple TV folks, to people

who call games, and every week I ask Handicap their chances. Is this the best team in the week, And many will say, well yeah, or some will say I'm not sure, but they're on the short list of teams that can win the whole thing. They've obviously been terrific at home this year. They have a great home field advantage, and I think the difference with that team from from last year to this year. Last year it sort of felt like they they needed you as an opposition to make a mistake and

they can outscore. This year, their defense has been so much better. They've gotten really good at creating mistakes and for the most part, capitalizing off of them. All Right, We've waited years, were talking to Mom this morning, Moe, it's finally here. Today is the day that you see officially as in the Big Twelve. What if anything, are you expecting from

the Bearcats this year their first year the Big Twelve. Well, I'm just was sitting here sort of writing out the pregame show for this afternoon, and I'm we're going to talk about this with Dan Hortegen Kelly, and Tony Pike today. I can't recall a season opener in which the game has been surrounded with so many questions. You know, there are nearly two dozen players in

this program who have come from other places. They have a new quarterback, they have basically overhauled their wide receiver room with guys who have come from other programs. I think the mainstay is what Cincinnati brings back on the defensive line. The rest of it, Steve, your guess is as good as mine. I think there's a lot of talent at the skill spots. I'm concerned about the offensive line play, especially when they start playing teams in the Big

Twelve. And they've got a quarterback who has got a ton of athletic gifts and Mary Jones comes from Arizona State. He began his college football career at Florida. What are we going to get from him? I think the secondary is obviously a part of the team that you have some questions about. But there are a lot of players who have been a part of the program there. I don't know, you know, I think what you'll I think?

What if you're a Bearcat fan You've come to appreciate this offseason is how much this program benefited from continuity when Luke Fickle was here, not just the same head coach for five seasons, but for the most part, the same coaching staff and a lot of players who played early in their college football careers, that accumulated experience and then played as as upperclassmen, many of whom are now

in the NFL. This year, that continuity has been tremendously disrupted, and they play an EKU team today, Steve who has a quarterback that I think has a chance to play in the National Football League. So we're going to get a lot of answers today, But the questions are in great abundance, more so than at any point going into a season opener that I can recall. What about the coach that you talk about, Luke Ficklegan the new coach.

Is his background running defense, passing? What do you expect there? Scott Sadderfield's an offensive guy. I think what's going to be interesting this season. They want to run the football. They want to win games in the Big twelve by running it and playing defense. In this era of college football, especially in this conference, is that going to work? Scott's Sadderfield's interesting. You know, he came from Louisville and he had his critics there,

and he had his detractors. But it's interesting when you talk to people there, even his most harsh critics will say he's a good offensive football coach. He knows what he knows what he's doing in terms of building an offense, calling plays and things like that. But Yeah, to me, offensively, if you're looking for familiar names, you're going to find them at the running back room, and I think there's still a lot of talent there. I

think it's going to be interesting. For all the success the Bearcats had over the last three years, I often felt like the running game itself lack creativity and imagination. I don't think that's necessarily going to be the case this season. Okay, our coverage begins at two thirty this afternoon. Full game of Arizona w EV and one final question mo with Moegger this morning. Did you see everything you needed to see in the Bengals preseason? Yes, understanding that

you're not going to see the guys who matter most play. I think that the most important thing that's obviously happened this preseason is Joe Burrows back at practice. With the exception of Joseph Osai, this team is very, very healthy going into the first week of the year. You know, I would have liked to have seen more things from some of the backup offensive lineman. I'm

concerned about the offensive line death. I would have liked to have seen a little bit more from the running backs who got run in the preseason, But I think that lack of pop is a function of frankly, the offensive line death not being very good. I wish I felt better about whoever had to play the event that Joe Burrow had to come out of the game. But everything this team has done over the last two years has been building toward this

year. Their favorites in what I think is the best division in the sport, and we're harboring legitimate super Bowl Championship hopes, and looking at the roster, it's it's hard. It's not hard to figure out why they have an MVP caliber quarterback. They have a roster with very very few holes, tons of continuity, lots of continuity on the coaching staff. I think there's a real real sense of this being the year. I think the big question for me, and this is hard to predict. The last two years, with

exceptions, they have been remarkably healthy. Does that continue for a third straight year. If the answer is yes, you have a hard time convincing me this team can't win it. All good and what a great day for Cincinnati sports. Do you see this afternoon? You got the Reds tonight FC Cincinnati night, just a great one. I've asked everybody this morning mood. You have a Jimmy Buffett story or did you go to a show? Went to six of them with my friend the late Rich Wallburg, including one WOW in

August of two twenty one. I'm not necessarily a huge Jimmy Buffett fan in terms of I'm gonna stream a bunch of Jimmy Buffett music, but those concerts are a good time and some of my favorite memories of hanging out with Rich are at those shows that he often took me to do with me sort of kicking and screaming, and I ended up having a good time. Nonetheless, I never had a bad time with Rich Wallberg. Absolutely, you are correct. Hey, mo, I have a great week, and we'll be listening
