It was nineteen sixty five on this date when we first saw Charlie Brown Christmas. The first animated TV special featuring the characters from the Peanuts comic strip by Charles Schultz premiered on CBS, and the Vince Garalding trio became mainstays of Christmas time. It's here a little musical moment of zen for me and childhood memories before we look at and look back at events and people tied to this particular

date, including but not limited to these. Eighteen fifty four Alfred Lord Tennyson's famous poem The Chargearge of the Light Brigade, published in England. An explosion inside the Cross Mountain of coal mine near Briceville, Tennessee, nineteen eleven killed eighty four workers. Big Time College Basketball on Cincinnati Tonight, the seven to oho Cincinnati Bearcats make the long journey north to Cincinnati to play the four and five Xavior Musketeers and the Crosstown Shootout. You see broadcasts can be heard right here on seven hundred WLW and the Xavier broadcast can be heard on fifty five KRCW. Here's the thing that's

problematic. I think for the Musketeers, they have had a problem playing together all season, and the quality of their opponents, mind you, has been slightly better, to say the least, than the UC Bearcats. But the Bearcats looks like they have some coherency and they look like a team. Xavier has just looked confused every time I've watched. I think you can come into this game throw everything else out the window. Though. This game's just a

different type of basketball game from a rivalry game standpoint. No, it always is. It's just I don't like Xavier's chances, just personally. Bengals trying to make it two in a row with Jake Browning behind the controls and the Colts coming into town tomorrow. Yeah, the Bengals has to Gardner Menshew led Colts tomorrow afternoon in a Quarterbacks Star Quarterback Battle. Coverage begins at nine am

It's six seventeen on a Saturday morning, remembering the life and times John Lennon, a day after his life on this earth was snuffed out by Mark David Chapman walking home to the Dakota apartment building he shared with his wife, Yoko Ono. Let's go to old radio Rick with a reception report on a Saturday morning. Hello, Ricky, how are you hey? Good morning Gary, Jeff. Well, it's about a four x four morning. It's pretty loud and pretty clear. But not every not every radio is quite

capable of a five by five. This one is a nineteen forty nine jewel brand. It's known as the Wakemaster nine five. So it is indeed an AM five tube AM clock radio and plastic case available in the festive colors of white and black, your choice and not. What's else to say about it. It's a pretty basic little five to two radio. It's nice looking and the clock is particularly attractive. Although the half life of the radioactive materials to

make the hands glow in the dark is long gone. You're not seeing it in the dark anymore, but that will happen. Oh jeez. So, I mean, there wasn't any nuclear radioactivity emanating from this little device, was there? Not? As far as you know, all the old watch and clock glow in the dark material was slightly radioactive. Nobody was going to, you know, set off a Geiger counter or die from it. But it was a radioactive material that actually made that glow in the dark work, and

it only recharges so many times. So let's try and make an appointment right now to do something Monday night on the Nightcap. We've been that sounds good. We've been missing each other for the past couple of weeks, but we do have some things to sort out and that would be a perfect time to do that. All I'm saying is Dan Horde, do not sleep on Joe Sunderman. Hey, this is like in Kennedy, three time Pro Bowl. Here's what's trending on the Iheartsports Network presented by Mercedes Benz. Bengels wide receiver Tyler Boyd is listened as questionable for their

game on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts due to an angle injury. The UC Bearcats football team gets one of their targets in the transfer portal, landing former Eastern Michigan defensive ben Mike ah Coleman and the show Heyo Tommy Sweepsteaks continues as new reports tonight and that the two time American League MVP travel to Toronto as

his free agency proceeds into the weekend. I'm Jidy Hafrett. The Mercedes Benz Holiday Love Celebration is here with incredible offers on richis Love Bengals record brought to you at BUK by Encore Technologies and your local forward dealers on seven hundred WLW, the home of the best Bengals coverage, going to spend some time with Bengals head coach Zach Taylor and coach have to say. The fan base, I'm sure is feeling a whole lot more positive about these next five games after

the Monday night game. And I don't know, I would have to think you are too safe to say, well, it's good to get a win. These guys have been working hard and you know yourself, performance like that coming from our guys, and I just got to keep stacking it every week. The guys were great, but one in particular and ends up as the offensive player of the week. You say he puts in a lot of time. He is, he's a guy who preps, but the fact that he's

I mean offensive Player of the Week. You weren't expecting a performance like that. Well, I thought he managed the game really well, you know, and and he was confident himself. And like I said, he's been putting in this work for three years that we've seen and so no, I I hate to say that I was surprised by it because I think crows that he expects to make and next thing, you know, he's the AFC Player of

the Week. So I thought that was pretty good for Jake. Absolutely never did hear the uh the throw from Tyler Boyd who was the target on that or was that still a trade secret because it might come up again. No, we were throwing into the running back, you know, and he's he Shoot, we've probably got about one hundred yards on that play in the last couple of years, so the defender was a little bit different place than he

usually has been. Yeah, that's the way it goes sometimes when you call a trick play like that, and and uh so, you know, maybe maybe put on the shelf for a while, but we've usually done a great up excusing it just didn't go away that time. Yeah, it was certainly a team effort. The run defense was was dramatically improved. I didn't look

at the numbers, but watching the game, it looked dramatically improved. It's different when you can control the game like we did, you know, at least at least be right there with a tight score for most of the game. More slightly, it helps you on both sides of the ball run and stop the run. So you know, being able to play that way is certainly going to help our rushing attack on both sides of the ball. All right, So got the Colts on Sunday, typical one pm start. Excuse

me, strengths of strengths of the Colts. What are you seeing there? Their defensive line is really good, you know, guess probably Donnis for a long time. They've got some really good players up front, and so that they make things difficult. And the running in the pass. Offensively, they're they're really creative. I think Change Stiken's a good offensive coach and they do a good job. Yeah, final ways to win at the end of the game. They just found ways to win, and that's why their record is

what it is. All right, all right, let's go, thank you for your time, best of luck on Sunday, and I'll talk to you next week. With a constantly changing landscape of technology, it's important to stay ahead of the game, have access to the latest technology. We've got a chance of rain overnight, a morning low of fifty one Saturday, a few showers, then heavy rain later a few storms too, a high a sixty one at night, heavy rain minor flooding possible, and a low of thirty

How now Brown County and the gang at Brookies Saloon on main Street there in Ripley, and the man himself, Brookie on the phone, Darren, how you doing good? Gary? Jeff? How you doing this morning? Doing just ducky? And now you are you by yourself? Or do you got the green hornet there? Who's is anybody there? Green hornet? And we slid on down the streets to the other the other bar. We're cheating. We're cheating down here. So you're at Snappers this morning, Yeah,

happening at the round tape with the morning crew. How about Hi, How's how's Jerry Jones doing these days? He's missing. I don't know where he is. Now wait a minute, you're at Snappers for the early morning breakfast round table, and and the king is not there, and he is not he's not here, he's not in the house. And that's okay. She well, I mean it'd be okay. Probably this time of the morning.

You don't want to maybe encounter Jerry say later in the day after he's had a few too many cups of coffee, for example, Yep, we're not going to do the radio show at ten o'clock with h might tell you that. Well, so what's going on? What's going on in town this weekend? Anything that's pretty slow? This weekend? We got the drawings up to sixty five thousand and the no bes to I don't have anything going on. Pretty slow weekend, and it is River Village Christmas here, so there's a

lot of things going on during the day. Yeah, what kind of stuff. Well, they have bazaars and things going on, and they have tomorrow they have a house tour. You can go in people's houses and see all the pretty decorations and all that. So we're just having a River Village Christmas type thing. That's fantastic. You want to talk bizarre, that's ripley every weekend. I know, I've been there every week every weekend. There are

bizarre things going on. But you've met Christmas bazaars and they're like, well, what we'll go ahead, Sherry. What ye we got the rain to mess it up to day. But I'm afraid it is because it's going to be stormy and rainy, but it's gonna be fairly warm today, but tomorrow and now it's gonna be cold. Now we get that Bengles game in and hope to get winner. Yep, we got. I got a wet beaver out here on the on the rock weather rock. Well, you know,

always better, always better than a dry one. That's right in my experience. All right, guys, have a fantastic weekend. Thanks for the check, and we'll talk soon, okay, by bye. Tomorrow our high temp will be forty one, but that will be diminishing as we go through the day on Sunday, and there's a chance for snow showers, not a great one, but a small, slight chance. Sunny and forty for Monday. It's fifty three now seven hundred WLW Sports. The Commander in Chief Trophy up for grabs today as Army meets Navy. For how

many? How many years is it? Ben liam This is the one hundred and twenty fourth matchup between Army and Navy today at three pm, and it's being played in Foxboro, Massachusetts for the first time ever, home of the Patriots. I mean, it seems like a logical, logical thing. Armies. Army's favored, right, he had two and a half point favorites. Both teams are five and six, So the winner goes home with the Commander in Chiefs Trophy, bragging rights obviously, and guaranteed five hundred record in the

other team finishes with the losing record. So besides bragging rights a lot on the line. It's gonna be a fun rival a game. Every year I watch this game and It's always fun football, even though some people say it's ugly. But I love I love the running it down each other's throats. I love it too. UK football. Where are they going this year? Bullwise Gator Bowl in Jacksonville on December twenty ninth, facing Clemson. Now,

Rich Brooks had a famous bullwin. I think it might have been two thousand and seven versus Clemson that kind of got the program in the right direction. It's where we are today. But we can forget about the Joker era, all right. So and the big news in Cincinnati obviously the Crossdown Shootout, Skyline Crossdown Shootout tonight at six thirty from the Centas Center. Yeah, broadcasts you see broadcasts will be right here on seven hundred WLW and the Xavier broadcast

will be on fifty five KRC. You see, is looking for their first win at the Centas Center since two thousand and one. You see a seven and zero Xaviers four and five with a pretty ugly loss to the Blue Hens of Delaware. So they're trying to get right right here. This could change the season, and all the echoes of the past, you know, come with this. The Pete Gillen era skip Prosser, Bob Huggins, Uh,

you know Cronin and the famous brawl game. So it's always it's always one of those things that you can't You could throw out the records the second they get on the court. Let's start out with the best factoid of the week, Cheryl Atkinson on full major Yes here it is over forty percent of transpatients have the HIV virus. For black people, over sixty percent of trans patients have the HIV virus. That's good news for drug companies who can make even more money off transsexual patients. One drug company has eleven HIV and age related drugs currently

on the market. I am shocked in a way of all the surprise everybody has as what with regard to what's going on on college campuses. Well, I'm an old guy, so I lived through, you know, the Vietnam protests era. Well, let's go back and take a look at that. After the violent protests that surrounded the Kent State and Jackson State shootings in May of nineteen seventy, the University of Iowa, where Gary Jeff's father went and

I went, protesters demanded that the university shut down. It did as professors reviewed to hold classes, and the college president gave in. The university president was Willard Boyd. He acquisessed, which is doubly notable because Boyd was a former law professor at the University of Iowa and he would wind up teaching in that law school for fifty years, which is currently named after him. Students got the grade that they had so far in the term. Yeah, they

weren't allowed to finish the term. Of course, I was a grad student. I'm still waiting for reimbursement for the lectures that I avowed by renegade faculty members. I don't think that's going to come anytime soon, Steve All. This followed two years of what University of Iowa now calls peaceful demonstrations on the Iowa City campus. It is not peaceful when a gang of thugs burst into a department chairman's office, scare the hell out of secretaries and faculty, and

take over with no consequences. Amen outside anti warror activists meanwhile weighed Viet Cong flags, flags of the communist insurgents who were then killing Americans. Folks. This is nineteen seventy. Yeah, and you're shocked at what's going on this

year. Those clowns, those students are now the professors. Yep, yeah, uh u non violent, you say, We'll tell that to the faculty member whose research work over multiple years was destroyed in an arson ooh Arson committed on his office and the surrounding area of his building, all on Attorney Boyd's watch. He was so adored that he was brought back as interim president in the early two thousands. Willard Boyd died last year at a sixty five years

He was on the University of Iowa faculty at one capacity or another. So I checked the student newspaper, The Daily Iowa I once worked on it. They printed an obituary and I thought, oh, I got to read this and see what they said about the nineteen seventies. Well, it made the nineteen seventy fiasco amid campus chaos look like it never happened. No, never happened. So I wondered, being a journalist myself, did they simply reprint

a university public relations blurb without checking their own morgue. That's their file copies of past issues which would have chronicled the violence that was answered by shutting down the university. I lived through it. They're lying by omission. Well, if so, it's shoddy journalism by student journalists. Well, Steve, you're on a roll here. I just got to stop you for a second. You're shocked that these aren't objective journalists that only tell you half the story.

Oh, I was just kidding. Okay, Well, it's right throughout the quote unquote journalism industry. But please continue. By the way, I had a couple of professors at IOWA that I really liked, particularly in journalism. One was Don Woolly. Don Woolly was a renegade by the way of the

nice type. He just didn't fit in. He was a good teacher, and I took a public relations class from him, and the first exercise was take a newspaper and take a sharpiet and indicate all of the articles in there that you think came out of a public relations office or public relations you know mill and so all of us had to go through this, and of course we were all waiting to see, God, what is the of the crap

that comes out of pr offices, you know, versus everything else? And so what it finally came down to when don you know, greated all these and gave him back to us. We were all short, you know, we were like thirty forty percent. The answer was eighty five percent. So what you have to do is recognize that is propaganda and judge accordingly if you want to report correctly. By the way, Uh, let's look Overseas for a second. You know we've had Holocaust deniers. Now we have abomination deniers,

don't we Uh? And just one more comment here, all of these stories about Hunter Biden. Finally the IRS kidding after him, and I think, if I read this rite, he's going to have to produce six years of ten forties. That's the key to this story, not the fact that it's one point four million. They say that he's owed on seven million dollars of unreport income. By the way, that's only twenty percent, and that's just standard. When the IRS starts, it's like if you win the lottery.

You know, they'll automatically take twenty percent out. But hell, you got to do the ten forties you know later, and it's going to be a hell of a lot more unless you have write offs. Let's say Hunter produces these ten forties. This is so good and indicates, perhaps truthfully, well, fifty percent of what I made went to my father. Oh, now we can check daddy's ten forties, can't we, And we can sock it to him. And wouldn't that big grounds for impeachment? Oh? My

goodness? And if I have time, let me do this. More books have been published on the subject of Abe Lincoln than any other president by far. I've read many of them. Not a one says his being gunned down in one Washington d C was followed by a hue and cry for gun control. Could it be that we realized at that time guns won Blacks their emancipation. They did not win it by virtue of a piece of paper. Thank you, that's it, amen, Thank you Steve Real quickly, my friend

he would not relent. And what a wise man, and what a great story, what a great show. God bless America, God bless your brother Mary. Christmas, God bless you, mister Scott. Merry Christmas to you. The COP twenty eight Climate conference in Dubai is finally finished, and Steve, good morning. Do you have a report? Oh, lots of things, but obviously only got a few minutes. But again, it's about scientific education on indoctrination, and I have a new one consensus. Science

is my role. But let get started. It was embarrassing start to the top. Twenty eight. The conference chairman, Sultan Algebbar spoke out quote, there's no science out there or no scenario out there that says that the phase out of fossil fuel is going to achieve one point five three c above pre industrial levels. Show me a roadmap for a phase out of fossil fuels that will allowed for the sustainable socioeconomic development unless we want to take the world back

into caves. Quote quote Now, at the end of that he did say at some point we need to replace fossil fuels, but he says it has to be is done by a back by science and in the practical manner. You can imagine how livid certain people were about these opening remarks. Oh yeah, but John Kerry, of course, you know, he had to say something, so he took the stage and he promised to shut down all unobated American coal power plants I think by the year twenty thirty. So what's unobated,

it's carbon captured. So that basically means John Carey wants to if he had his way, he's all existing col power plants will be shut down by twenty thirty. Meanwhile, China is building one hundred and eighty two Who he was, you know, so much for that. That comes from seafact dot org. Another one from seafact dot org. Private jets flocked in Dubai for

COP twenty eight event, the largest carbon footprint in the history. And one of the reasons is there's approximately one hundred thousand attendees that COP twenty eight as compared to forty ninth thousd than at Egypt last last year. And then from the Climate Change Roundtable number ninety nine from heartland dot com from yesterday, a couple of goodies. One is again China and India reject reject again climate loss and climate damage demands. That is that they would have to pay out to

other developing countries' money. Of course, we know China is over thirty percent of the global carbon emissions for those who care, and greater than US and Europe combined. And then ah, despic I call it despicable virtue signaling. The COP twenty eight session had a session on did this Gary Jeff quote responsible yachting today and tomorrow responsible to YACHTI I think that was for John Carrie when

he moves his report. It was reported that Jeff Bezo, the guy who owns Amazons, has a super yacht that puts out seven thousand tons per year of carbon. For those who care for those in bevas, that's fourteen million pounds per year for Jeff Bezos to sell his his super yacht and not to

be outdone, Gary jeff Real quickly. Yesterday the seacap Sea fact dot org reported that the Climate Justice Alliance, the Global Grassroots Justice Alliance, and the Indigenous Environmental Network repeatedly charged Israel in the United States with genocide and co and gaza. Of course, at no time the mass cur of the Israeli citizens and raping and whatnot was mentioned. This just shows what's happening out there.

Every radical cause is being shoehorned somehow, some way in the environment and the climate change crisis. They're all the same. They're all the same people, and they are the worst people on the planet. Steve, thank you so much for your time and your information. This morning. We got a couple of minutes, so let's get right to it. What's on your mind? Okay, Gary,

Jeff? What I wanted to I told about today was children and sleep because the school systems that we have right now are are absolutely creating an environment that children do not get enough sleep. And what's what's really weird and what's a little you know, bizarre, is that younger children need about twelve hours of sleep, and we as adults, tend to make teenagers wake up really early, and they actually need more sleep than the younger children. So hold hold

on rock. Teenagers need more than twelve hours of sleep. Yeah, Actually their brains are developing in a at a different rate. Even though young children their brains are developing, teenagers actually need to sleep longer and beyond. So too many, too many times, we're short sleeping. It's called all children in general, but teenagers for the most part. No, teenagers should be

waking up at seven o'clock in the morning and going to school. They should be waking up at around at nine o'clock and then going to school to learn. So we're literally short sleeping teenagers by about two hours. And when you find that they're grumpy or they're not doing well in school, is most likely due to a poor sleep. That's why mom and dad, and that's why mom and dad insisted on strict bedtimes and we were growing up. Roco, thank you so much for that look. More from rock O Costalano on the

Hi, Tony by good have you on the show? How you doing? Always a pleasure? All right? Fans are feeling better about their team after that showing last week by Jake Browning. Question is how much difference does it make once somebody gets tape of an entire

game played by Jake Browning. What can defenses do to thwart him from having the kind of day he did last week? Well, if you look at what the Bengals tried to do, it was getting the ball out early in the game and getting easy completions. I mean Jamar Chase had but four catches for under twenty yards at one point. That was just to get Jake Browning

comfortable. When a defense allows a quarterback to get comfortable, then you start seeing that the confidence grow, you start seeing some of the smaller window throws. So that's where Jake Browning found his success. So I would not envision Indianapolis allowing him to get such easy completions early. Make it a little bit

tougher. But if the Bengals can run the ball. They ran the ball so well against the Jacksonville Jaguars, who one of the top defense in the league against the run, running sets up so many options for Jake Browning passed that if they can find ways to continue to run the ball, they will have success. So if you're a defense, you want to stop the run. You want to force the second third lungs, and you want to try to take away the easy stuff. Early Chase Brown made a big difference.

He had a couple of nice runs and he got the impression maybe that lit a fire under mix into I don't know, work a little harder. What do you think I mean, I think at this point, you know, Joe Mixon is not going to be the electric, break a seventy yard run type back. His big plays are going to be ten to twenty yards. Chase Brown, in limited action this year, has shown the ability to be the explosive back. He has a thirty one yard run against Jacksonville, which

is the longest by any running back this season. He provides a really, really nice change of pace in the backfield. Whereas Joe Mixon is such a physical presence, Chase Brown can go around you. And I think that gives them a good little dynamic for a one to two option at running back. I guess the Cults have a pretty dynamic front. On defense. I think everybody along there has five sacks or better, and that could put it was a significant problem. Yeah, they are. They're one of the most balanced

defensive lines in the NFL. You think of a lot of defense that have one or two standouts. India is just solid across the board. And if you look at the Bengals offensive line that has been a struggle at times this year. Again, if you're getting the ball out quick, those guys can't recavoc. But if you're not winning on first and second down, if you get into third and long situations, the Indianapolis pass rush is a group that

can cause a lot of havoc on a game plan. We'll see what chakes out, Tony Bike, and I'll talk to you next Friday, same time. Enjoy your weekend, all right, buddy. RNL Carriers has immediate career

Oh yeah, the dominutive Brenda May Tarpley from nineteen fifty eight to twenty

twenty three. He's still going, is strong, stronger than ever. To talk about that and much more. In Rock and Roll Archaeology, the music professor himself, Jim Lebarbara joins us, Jimmy, tell me about this incredible record and its enduring power. Can you believe that? She tells them. Maybe the birthday on Monday, she turns seventy nine and sixty five years after

she recorded that song, It was a balmy day. Sixty five years ago, thirteen year old girl walks into a Nashville Owen Bradley's Nashville studio and Owen got it really set up for her. He had the studio all deck dat of Christmas decord to get her in the mood to sing the songs. I talked to Johnny Marx years ago. Johnny Marx wrote that song and he wrote it especially for Brenda Lee. And it was like, well it because Wendlelee at that time I was like twelve years old. And then she recorded when

she was thirteen, but she had never had a hit. She didn't have a hit yet. But he loved her hearing her sing songs like John Beliah, and so he got a song, gave it to her Root Oflf the Red Nose Reindeer. He wrote that he wrote the Hally Jolly Christmas. He wrote, I hear the bells on Christmas Day. He wrote so many great classic Christmas songs. I'm talking to Johnny Marx. I said, Johnny, you must really have a great time of Christmas. He said, Jimmy,

So I don't celebrate Christmas. I'm Jewish. So he wrote that song that became you know here there is a number one record all these years later. A wonderful lady. I did one show with her. We did a number of shows, but the one show with like twenty thousand people in about ninety degree temperature, and I can still see her holding their little granddaughter before she went on stage to sing that song in front of twenty thousand people, and

it was like close to ninety degrees. She is a tiny little person, isn't she. Yeah, beautiful lady. I'm a wonderful lady, and so unaffected by her success. The member that did not and did not at all sound like did not at all sound like she was thirteen and you know, when you get into the early sixties, he's still a teenager and she just is singing these wonderful grown up songs. Up next in our list one of the British Invasion bands. I really liked this guy. Mike Smith was a

lead singer of the day. Flag five did one number one hit record, but they had so many other hits. He would have been eight on Wednesday this week, and he died in twenty and eight, just eleven days before he was to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. That Dave Clarke five, Now he was very good on the piano as a kid. Better fact, the team's at thirteen past the entrance exam for Training Music College in London met Dave Clarke played on the same football team, one big

team over in England and they were friends. And then Dave Clarke got this little band together and Mike Smith was a tire, says his lead singer. He had this rasby barantone voice, and between nineteen sixty four and nineteen sixty five they had so many hit records. They after the Beatles, they were the grip that came in and they were their biggest rivals until the Rolling Stones

came on this team. But he also was a chief songwriter with Dave Clark, and they wrote first hit clamb all over Bits and pieces up ton of hims the two of them wrote. So he even though he wasn't the front man on the band with his name out there, he was really the sole in the lead singer of the band. And the drumming sound that sometimes sound, that was the signature of their sound. So many hit but they did have one number one hit. They had a lot of top ten hits,

but they had one number one hit. It was the Bobby Day song over and over again and and it's the signature sound of that thumping, thumping drum sound and then the keyboard with the great lead voice of Mike Smith. And they changed the verse version a little bit. The last line everybody went stag uh. They changed it to everybody there was there on the day Clark five version. But he and I talked and said that the coming to America,

said, I couldn't get over the tall buildings. Theyver saw tall buildings like that before. And I didn't understand why those teenage girls were screaming and yelling so much. We just didn't understand all that. And they were on the Head Settlement Show a record time like eighteen appearances and sold over one hundred million records. Let's let's dive into their number one over and over and over and over and over. Well the other night, everybody there was then saying over

and over and over again. This time Sola there say over and over and over again, this time soon to be trying say overhead, over end or over again. This thanks shown to be trying out all at once. It happened the previous in the world. I said, I'm watching them overhead att to me and be my good saying about you come over and actuti me and me not a good saying a watch gla over and adopted to me and be my girl. She said she wants up, and I was in the lates.

She went away away away, down away, stay, geway away away, wait steady gee away away the way that's a way. Oh yeah, that's a nice seven LW Rock and Roll Archaeology on a Saturday morning with Jim Levarma, the music professor. I'm Gary, Jim and Jimmy up next on our list. Uh this is is this another birthday mentioned from this week. Yeah, he turned eighty four years old yesterday. He's still going strong.

He's the ice Man. He's in the Hall of Fame with the Impressions, and a lot of people think I think he deserves to be in as a second inductee as a solo performer. Jerry Butler came out of Chicago, Gary Jeff. His dad passed away when he was young, and he was like

the provided the male of the family. Had to make some money, and he was starting to be an ice sculptor, and he also sang some music in the church choir and with a couple of friends, Curtis Mayfield, they had a little gospel group and they sang around in Chicago and really just wanted to go in and make a record in nineteen fifty eight to win to make a record to be on the radio. And they had no idea what would happen if they became the magnitude of being successful, And that's what happened.

He became very successful. He had that record with the Impressions. The song he wrote as a poem they sang the song became for your Precious Love when the greatest love songs ever made his career was off and running. He will break your hearts so many hits. Make it easy on yourself. Let it be me, And almost a decade later the solo perform on his own.

He wrote a song with Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. This predated the Philadelphia International Sound and they went in the studio and kept this song and it became the sole anthem to so many people around the world. Stephen Wonder said, Jerry Butler's Only the Strong Survivor is not just a song. It's a philosophy that resonates with the heart and soul of humanity. And if you listen to this, this remind me of clients. Carter patches the spoken word intro.

He's, I mean Mama's words of wisdom. You know, I remember my first love affair and Mama's great advice. And then he gets to the payoff is the chorus where Mama's message goes beyond how to deal with a breakup of this a more universal life's lesson. And this is one of the songs that resonated, especially during the sixty civil rights anthem. But the message is as poillant today as it was. But it became a million sellar and the number

four hit in nineteen sixty. I agree, the ice man always made quite the impression. I remember my first love of fare somehow enough that the whole darn thing went wrong. My mama had some great advice, so I thought I'd put it in the word to this song. I can still hear saying, boy Wor sitting out there all alone crying, has a costal that's gone. All that's going to be. That's gonna be a whole lot of trouble

in your life. Oh so listen me get a balconies. That was only the strong, That's what she said, Only the straw, only the strong. And Sama, he got be strong about hole around with your head hold down. I wouldn't let the little girl know you, wouldn't let her know that. She made me feel like a clown. That a wall lot of girls. You're looking bugging man like you all, but you little meat on

it. You give up now and say you're lie strew. Then she said, all those little strolls about, all little strongs about you gotta be a

man. You gotta take a stand star, Hey, you got up the star Rock and Roll Archaeology Jim Lebarbara, the music professor standing by he moved from Jerry Butler to another song that relates to this weekend in history, and to explain that once again, Jim Lear, Barbara Hey, Jerry, Jeff it was this week In nineteen seventy six, the five Fevers Fortunes were about to change and release the album Night Moves, and it became a number eight

album seller on the charts, sold like over eight million copies. And he said, witness shows with him in nineteen sixty nine because he had to hit record Grambling gamblin Man in nineteen sixty nine. But then then it was a regional star in Cleveland and and then Detroit, and he struggled to make an impact, and then this album came out and it became a smash and he all of a sudden was the national name Bob Seeker. And the song, the big song that came out of that was the title Night Moves, went

to number four, sold a million copies. So it's the story of a couple making love, girl losing, the couples losing their virginity in the backseat of a Chevy. And then he took some liberties with the lyrics and the story. It wasn't in the backseat of the sixty It wasn't the back seat of sixty two Chevy, but he had to make it lyrically to rhyme my sixty Chevy. So that's the difference of the real in that night believe. But there was this dark haired Titian girl, her name Renee Andretti. Her

boyfriend was in the military. He was away and he was in love with this the Tian girl, and she was like twenty years old. He's nineteen at the time. Yeah, And he pursued this romance with her, and eventually her boyfriend returned and they got married. But a lot of his early songs were written about this girl and the romance, and it took him over

six months to write this song. Then the movie came out. He saw it in there in nineteen seventy three, American Graffiti, Uh set in nineteen sixty two, and he goes out and says, wait a second, hey, I've got a story to tell. Nobody has ever told about how it was to grow up with my neck in the woods. And he writes this song, and he wrote portions of it at the AMW drive in restaurant and they had Harker Michigan and it's his breakthrough single and all of a sudden establishes

I mean it often comes in with a big, thick book that he sits and reads while he has a couple of cocktails after work, and I said, have you seen the new Peter Bronson book The Man who Saves Cincinnati said? Yeah, you know what I bought. I heard him on with you and I

to have company, Glad to be here. Yes, scientists, it's surprising it now blinding meely, our own noted scientist Science Mike, how you doing Michael, those West Siders are looking for a coupon or a Bogo deal. Hey, I think we can arrange that real quick. They had a three point zero earthquake up at Finley A Highway twelve thirty less this early morning. Case, there's a happy couples up there. Thought the Earth was moving, but no, it was just an earthquake. Okay, herey, Jeff,

we got the return trip coming up now. At the eight o'clock last night, Haley's comet finally made its Aphelian on the elliptical side of its path around the Sun all the way out to the end of the Solar system. So it finally turned around and it's three point two seven billion miles away. So now at eight o'clock last night, it's thirty eight years from now it's head and launce way back. So in thirty eight years and twenty sixty one,

it's going to be back around the Sunny. That's what. I don't think we're going to do a follow up show on this. By the way, you know what, if in fact I was alive when Haley's comment, I'd be approaching one oh one, and I'm not sure I want to live that long. Well, I don't. First of all, if I am alive, I don't think I'll have the division to be able to see it.

So the last pass was the last pass was what seventy six, nineteen eighty six, and that was a disappointment because it was on the other side of the sun and we couldn't see it, and it was quite the quite the letdown. But thirty eight years from now, so if you kids are anybody born after nineteen eighty two, you got a fifty to fifty chance of seeing it. So I have a question about that. Yeah, yeah, what's your question, Pete. I often hear it called Halle's comment and Haley's comment,

So which is it, Sir Edmund Holly Hallie's comment? There there we go, all right, So my story, Yeah, Peter, your one book about the syndicate in Cincinnati. Yeah, I personally No are new Uh Pete and Uh and Bud Andrews the nephews of No Kid. Absolutely, I can tell you some stories about him that will be the follow up to that book. So they had normal names like Pete and Bud, not like Spider

and Screw. I met Spider too. Yeah, my guys, that must have been an interesting family Thanksgiving. Hey, Spider Passators, we'll get into it. I'll see you. I'll see you sometime around. To help us share the word of God this morning, Brother Rick Green joins us from Spiritwork Cincinnati. I'm gonna let it shine light of mine. I'm goad it shine, miss mine. I'm going to let it shine, Let it shine, let it shine shine. Yeah, brother Green, good morning. Oh yeah, Gary, I woke up playing for you and all of

your missings. Thank you need every every bit of prayer we can get, brother, Hey, we all do. Gary. Today, we got a good one coming from Psalms from one thirty verse five. It says I wait for the Lord. My whole dean waits, and then his word I put my hope. That's the good news, Gary, Well, you know, and it speaks to waiting for the Lord. And sometimes we have to be patient for the things that we know are coming and the things that we wish

or pray that would come. And so that that verse to me speaks to patience and faith and knowing that God will have the answers for us that we need in in his time, not an hour's most definitely, Gary, I had to learn I can't rush the process anyway. It's going to happen when God happened the way God says is going to happen. When I finally accept that. It's like this movie that you've been planning on making. You finally

are about your life. You know you had you had lots of lots of time that you had to exercise patience and faith in finally getting the thing off the ground. And you know, I commend you. That is absolutely a test and you you're passing so far. Brother. Yeah, thank you Gary. You know it's all God. So thank you for saying that you got it. We'll talk to you soon, Okay, love you, all right,

you have a blessed day. All right you too. Rick Green with us, will take a break and come right back more with Peter Bronson in just a moment this morning at nine, Mike Allan rands raves and then calms down with a virgin LIMERICKI on seven hundred WLW. When you're road and on the go, Food Country is the place to go. Get to Food Country Saturday Morning Edition. More in this book? What uh? What ivon? Who I passed your book onto? Mm hmm. The man who saved Cincinnati? He said, I had no idea

there was an assassination attempt to or plot on Abraham Lincoln. Isn't that amazing in Cincinnati? Yeah? I was shocked too, and it's documented and it was a very near thing. He was nearly killed here in Cincinnati on his way to his inauguration. So he not only was nearly killed, but he would not have been president. And then you can start spinning out alternative history.

What would our country look like today? If we had not had Lincoln to hold it together, we would be two countries, or we would have been two countries for so long that we would have been so weakened. You can see that the role that the USA plays in the world today would probably be just a small fraction of what we are. Well, you know what, we're kind of two countries, now, boy, is that true? I'll play I'll play a game with you. All right. Here's a game.

It's called then or now. All right. The president is a lifelong career politician who has finally reached the top of the pyramid, only discover that he is incapable to lead a deeply divided nation. The only thing most Americans agree on is that he is an abject failure. Then or now eighteen sixty, the president is Buchanan, and he was a party hack who was totally incompetent. And the first few years of the Civil War they called it Buchanan's

War. But that could equally be And yet the parallels are obvious. Joe Biden. Here's another one. Yeah, a presidential candidate refuses to campaign, stays home, says almost nothing, and wins. Anyway, then or now. That was eighteen sixty Abraham Lincoln. He stayed in Springfield and would not campaign, he would not talk to the press, and yet he won the election. Amazing. Here's one more. Oh yeah, this is good.

Political enemies are arrested in midnight raids then or now eighteen sixty three, a congressman named Clement Landingham in days in Ohio was arrested and dragged out of his house by federal troops who broke down his door and hauled him out in the street in his pajamas for being a insurrectionist and criticizing Lincoln and being one of the copperheads who sympathized with the South. Free speech was suspended. Oh yeah, yeah, I knew that the writ of habeas corpus was suspended by the

Lincoln administration. And so do you see parallels? Oh, absolutely all over the place. Look at this is happening in front of our eyes today. So you know, if you look at some of these parallels, you have to raise the question, at least it occurred to me, are we in the second Antebellum period, meaning pre war period of a civil war? People are talking about civil war? We are divided like we were. I could go on through a list of probably a dozen of these parallels that are strikingly

similar. Incendiary partisan press, inciting violence, violence in the streets, people assaulting congressman. That happened in eighteen sixty as well, The Man Who Saved Cincinnati is the book. Peter Bronson is the author Chili Dog Press. And again you're going to be at Joseph Beth Bookseller. Where is it That is in Rookwood And I'll be there from eleven to one and we'll be signing books there for all customers who want Christmas gifts. Pete's sitting in with us for

Find an exclusive news twenty four hours a day, News Radio seven hundred WLW. Good morning, kids, It's time for gifts for Wally. The affair that almost was. A man goes to his priest confession and it mets his said, father, forgive me, I have send. Well, not really, but well what happens then? Well, I almost had

an affair. What do you mean almost? Well, I met this woman he's also married. One thing led to another week, got undress and we rubbed together. But that was it. I stopped, and the priest said, well, son, if it was in your mind, if you rub together, it's the same thing as actually committing the act. I want you to save five Hail Mary's and put fifty dollars in the poor box, and

you're absolved of your sin. Guy walks out of confessional booth, passes by the poor box for a moment, and then leaves without putting any money in. In the pre season, he said, I saw you. You didn't put fifty dollars in the poor box. Well, father, as I understand it, I rubbed the fifty against the poor box. It's the same thing as putting it in. Right. Seven hundred WLW, Cincinnati, available everywhere

with the iHeartRadio APPWN number one for podcasting. Seven hundred WLW and iHeartRadio station Granger for the ones who get it done court. Oh you see versus x You on the campus. There the ain't a parkway, Victory Parkway. There you go. It's the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout tonight at six thirty. The UC coverage here at six thirty, the Xavier coverage on fifty five krs. See the annual tradition continues in find fashion, and a guy who will be

a part of that madness is the one and only mo Egger. Hey, Mom, what's going on? Well, it's shootout weekend. That's the only thing that's going on, isn't it. Uh, Well, it's the only thing going on today, no doubt about it. Yeah. I mean I'm not counting, of course, the NBA In Season tournament or the fact that Montana beat Furman an overtime last night in the FCS and Army Navy game. Army Navy game today, that's a huge tradition thing too happens to come on

the same weekend of the shootout this year. So you're a you're a UC grad, right, No, I'm a Dayton grad, Dayton grand fan, a UC fan, right? So is it is it hard to keep your partisanship down on a weekend like this. Since you're a broadcaster, are you're supposed to be objective, You're not supposed to be a home or anything like that. I mean, do you struggle with that aspect of this? MoU No? I mean, you know, I I love the Bearcats. Grew up a UC fan, huge Ucy basketball fan my entire life, so my

allegiances are are are spoken for. But I mean in terms of talking about the game, and you know, talking to Sean Miller this week, and you know, you can't let your h your your preferences color your your commentary. So it's it's not that hard for me because you know, I mean, I like Xavier basketball, I like Sean Miller, have a ton of respect for the program. People at Xavier have been awesome to me for basically

the entire time I've been on the air. But I want the Bearcats all in well, you know, and Huggins obviously, Bob Huggins obviously long gone. So there's less chance that to find Jesuit students at Xavier will be throwing sex toys on the floor during the shootout today. Uh yeah, I don't know where that came from. You know. I I've been to every Skyline Chilly Crosstown shootout since nineteen ninety seven, all right, so it's not like I've been to all of them, but I've been to a bunch of them.

I don't know where the uh, the sex toy toss allegation, I don't know what that came from, because I never heard that it happened. I've seen snowballs get thrown, but I've not seen sex toys get thrown. And maybe maybe today that'll happen. I don't know, but I don't know where that came from. Peter Bronson is sitting in with us, Pete. Do you have a question from regarding the shootout anything that you'd like to know

from one of the broadcasters who will be bringing us the action. Do you think the acrimony, hostility, belligerance has dialed back a bit or is it still as hot. I think it's been dialed back, you know, I mean, I don't. It feels to me like when we had to fight eleven years ago in the game at the Centhas Center, when it was a huge ball. It feels to me like everybody sort of took a step back and said, what are we doing now. Is the game going to be

heated, absolutely? Is the environment going to be hostile, you know, regardless of where it's played, Yes, But I don't think we have anything approaching what we had, you know in the nineties when when Bob and Pete wouldn't shake hands, or you know, in twenty eleven when we had to fight. Now that said, these are our coaches who are still reasonably new in their current gigs. Obviously Sean Miller has been the coach of the days

before. But I think over the course of time, if Wes and Sean end up, you know, in their in capacities for a while, they play a bunch of games against each other, at some point, you know, acrimony is going to build. But I don't think anything's ever going to approach what we saw when we had to fight. I think there's a lot of folks who care about both programs, who, you know, in the aftermath of that said, all right, look, this is a basketball game.

This isn't something worth losing our minds over. But it's still a game. You know. Look, Xavier's won the last four and so from a Cincinnati perspective, I think there's some desperation to win the game. And you know, you see, and I say this as a Bearcat fan, you see, as always sort of you see, fans at least have always sort of looked down their noses, that Xager and the Mustardeers, and that's all well and good. But if you're going to do that, you have to

beat them occasionally. And so today I've got a shot. Yeah. Is this also and it's often been said, and I believe this is true, just for my few years here in town watching this play out. You can throw the records out the door when these two teams meet. Xavier is they've had it some pretty uneven performances against against better, better known opponents this year than you see his faced obviously, you see comes into the game unbeaten. Do the records mean anything at all? Though? Uh No, I think

the way the teams are played mean something. I think Cincinnati has played better, Xavier has played a better schedule. I you know, look the skyline Cherry Crosstown shootout is is littered with guys that you don't expect to have an impact making an impact. And you know, look over the last quarter century,

usually that's been on the Xavier side. I think, uh, you know, I always remember Brandon Randolph in one of the games that were played at at the Heritage Bank Center. You know, Brandon Randolph's never really materialized into a great college basketball player, but he comes off the bench and he

makes a couple of freeze in the game that the Musketeers won. I remember karm Canter a couple of years ago, suddenly, you know, making shots from the corner and being an offensive force that he didn't expect on a Xavier team that had other really good offensive players. So I think that happens all the time. You know, I think today is interesting because you know, you're right, Xavier's more battle tested and in their games against the most difficult

opponents, they've hung in there. You know, Purdue did not blow them out. And there were times in that game against the Boilermakers where I felt like, God, you know what, this game is about to get out of hand. And Xavier had an answer. Last Friday against Houston. You know, it was sixteen to four after the first six minutes, and I'm thinking, God, you know, the Mostketeers are going to get blown out. And then you know, with ninety seconds to go, the game was

still in debt. And you know, for the Bearcats, I think the keys are the two point guards, Gisel James and Dade Thomas, who are both new to this rivalry, the guys who I think really embraced playing an

environment like the one that Sintas Center is going to present. I think if those two guys play as well as I I think take him, Cincinnati has their favorite in the game more than a punch of chance to win in the Centa Center for the first time in twenty two Does Gardner Minshew, the Colts quarterback coming into town to face the Bengals, Does he have the best mullet in the NFL today? Probably, But he's also one of the more turnover

players in the NFL. And that's when I'm going to be paying attention to tomorrow. And obviously, if whoever wins the turnover battle in a game like this is going to get the prize at the end of sixty minutes. And the Bengals do have those players, you know, who can come up with a random interception or you know, the block kick or the fumble and recover it to do that. What do the Colts have on defense? Colts on defense have thirty sacks over the last six games, so second in the NFL

in sacks. This is a team that is really good at applying pressure to opposing quarterbacks. Now over the last six games, they've also given up four point seven yards per carry. So what I'm interested in is, you know, obviously, the other night, Jake Browning was insanely good and what a

cool story. Right second NFL start, He's the AFC Offensive Player of the Week, the first player in NFL history to complete eighty five percent of his passes, throw for three hundred and fifty yards, and rush for twenty yards or more in a touchdown. No player had ever done that. It's remarkable. But I think the key to that game against Saxonville was Bengals ran the ball effectively. The Bengals ran the ball efficiently, and the Bengals ran the

ball often, which they didn't do against Pittsburgh. I think it's going to be really interesting tomorrow to see if that continues. Obviously right now, not just with Joe Minxon, but also Chase brown who was pretty effective. I think if Cincinnati runs it effectively tomorrow, they're going to win the football game. You're not going to get Jake Browning to repeat his performance against the Jags.

But god, you know what if a backup quarterback making his third NFL start can lead on a running game like we saw the other night, well he's got a great chance to succeed. They've got to protect him. But more than anything, I think the Bengals have to run the ball effectively and efficiently. They did not against Pittsburgh. They have not for most of the season. They certainly did on Monday. If that continues tomorrow, I love

their chances. Thirty rushes and at least seven successful rollouts and the Bengals have it all. That's what I think. My friend Pat Pat Donellan says he had a question for mo from the bar yesterday. Mo Ason he said he was impressed with the bullpen picks that the Reds have made the new acquisitions, says, what about the third basement and who's on the trading block with all these infielders now part of the Reds fold Hei, Mark carrolln Hi Mark Candelario

is a good player coming off a good season. He's got some popping and he can play two different positions in the infield. The Reds right now have a surplus of infielders. Nick Krawl has said we're not going to trade Jonathan India, and maybe that's the case. I don't believe for a second that he's off the trade block. I certainly think that they would be happy to move him. I think what's interesting, and I'm not a very conspiratorial person,

Tyler Stevenson was not a Red Fest. Now you could read into that what you want. The Reds obviously still have Luke Mayley, and you know, Tyler obviously has a lot of value with somebody who can DH but also catch. He's also entering the phase of his contract of his career where he can start to get raises. He didn't have a great year last year. I wonder if there's something to that. And again I'm not I'm not you know, the tinfoil hat guy that Okay, well this happens, so let's

let's make up things that might not be in play. But I think Tyler Stevenson's legitimate trade candidate. I think the other thing is the let's have a really good farm system. And the thing about having a farm system is you have prospect capital that you could use in deals. So I certainly think that's a possibility I also wonder if maybe maybe they're going to use Elie Dela Cruz

in center field, which athletically I think he would be terrifically. But yeah, look, they have a ton of infielders right now, and my guess is at least one of them is going to be moved between now and when pictures and catchers report in two months. Well, thank you very much, have a fantastic shootout, and good luck to your cats. All right, thanks, you got it. So Mike Allen, Saturday midday, coming right

up, counselor good morning, good morning. We have Peter Bronson with us, and I'm there very familiar with the author, with the Man Man the myth legend from Chili Dog Press. Absolutely have you got the Man who Saved Cincinnati yet? I've already read it. Uh huh, Well you've had Peter. I think it's fantastic. I've had Peter on once. My son and I are gonna be in for Sloany the week after Christmas. Okay, he's coming in live so great book. Every one of his books is great.

It's funny you mention that, because I just wanted to throw this out here. I just remembered I had a guy I think his name was Tim call a caller last week who suggested that the new I seventy five Bridge be named the Black Brigade of Cincinnati Bridge. Oh, that's a great idea. Either that or poutin batty. Yeah, he was a Black Medal of Honor winner

in the Civil War. I think that's a hell of an idea. Phad and Beattie was in the Black Brigade from Cincinnati and then he went on to fight with other units that would allow Blacks to actually carry arms in battle yep. And he was like, you said, a Medal of Honor winner. I think that's a hell of an idea. I hope somebody picks up the cause on that. What's on the show today, Michael, Well, we're gonna be talking to Steve Goodin at ten o'clock. This is the big one

about the Biden indictment. Steve's gonna break it down. There's nobody better than him to break down federal indictment. It's going to talk to him about that. Also going to talk about Riley Gaines sticking it to Congresswoman some I love that. Wow. I got a little clip raid Summerlee trying to silence her, have her words stricken when she was just pointing out her own hypocrisy. A great absolute it was so one. It's oh man O'Riley made my mouth

water just walking it. Peter Browns will be a Joseph Beth booksellers today from eleven till one, signing copies of the Man Who Saves Cincinnati for people who buy him. Yes. This is a Crosstown shootown memory suit out by Prey, brought to you by Penn Station East Coasta Now a Crosstown shootout memory from Byron Lark at my first Crosstown shootout as

a player. It was my freshman year, and I just I didn't quite understand the intensity until it was uce week and it just seemed like everybody I talked to, whether it was a student or a teacher or a friend, they all were talking about it. So I quickly realized how important it was. When we played that first year in the coliseum, the intensity it was so thick. Two hours before the game, when we walked into the arena, you could just feel the electricity in the air, and it was something

special and it was big time and something I'll always remember. Be listing for the next Crosstown shootown memory on seven hundred WLW. Extra Cash coming right up. Happy Money is letting you in on a happier way to elevate your savings with an incredible certificate offered by a lit
