Then nineteen ninety nine, Ilian Gonzalez, a five year old Cuban boy, was rescued by a pair of sport fishermen off the coast of Florida, setting off an international custody battle which we also play out on our televisions as well.
And the morning that Alian Gonzalez was ripped out of a closet in Florida to go back to his father in Cuba. It was on the air right here on a Saturday morning. I remember having a huge stack of show prep in front of me and I looked at then producer Russ Jackson when that happened. When they came and got the boy out, I said, Russ, you see this and pointed to the pile of papers. He goes, yeah.
I said, we don't need any of that, because I knew the Alien Gonzales news was going to take up the entirety of the rest of the morning, and it did. Let's see anything else. Liam the producer, there's nobody here. There's nobody here overnight. Oh it all is supposed to run automatically, and Liam the producer had a blowout, hit a pothole and had a flat tire and was stranded on the road at quarter to five this morning trying to find his way in and see, none of us here know what we're doing as far as getting it out. All I know how to do is talk and answer the phone. So we're just
kind of stuck at that point. And poor Liam is trying everything in the world, even even trying to convince his girlfriend to come back to him so she can give him a ride into the station. Yes, he is, he is. He needs two huge Dick picks. The game.
The game today with the Ohio State Buckeyes versus the team up north. What happens between Ohio State and Michigan. I think the Buck guys are going to win thirty one to twenty eight. They're going to win in the last second. I think, just like that game against Notre Dame. Yeah, yeah, all right, Dick, pick number two. Are you a believer? In the New Browning area area of the Bengals. Playoff chances are the playoff chances over for the Bengals. Are you a believer in Browning the new quarterback.
I just think that he's going to like this. I think he's gonna be okay. I mean, it's a shame about Joe Burrow, but I think they can if the can they win. I don't care if he's okay or not. Can they win? Dick against the Steelers, They're gonna that. That's what I want to hear. I want to hear that confidence. I want to hear that un a fashioned just yes. I mean, live live in that truth, Dick. Yeah, are you willing thirty one to what? Twenty four? Thirty one to twenty four? All right? Yeah,
I don't know if the Steelers can score that many points. I don't know if we can score that many points. Hey, I was just going to ask you about date from Dayton. Really is be who you want
to be baby, just don't get in my face with it. Out of w l W six oh six eastern, the six minutes past the hour. And I have been waiting for this pretty much ever since I woke up this
morning. I mean, there are certain mile posts, there are certain little milestones that you reach on a regular basis on a Saturday morning, And for me, one of them is talking to this first guest with this next guest rather from Harrison on the Pellow Windows and Doors Hotline Pella now and pay later, the one and only Dave from Harrison, Good morning, Dave, Good morning, Jeff. How are we doing well? We're okay now that we're on the air, and uh and Liam's here. He had he had a
blowout this morning. I heard. That's not good. No, especially especially when you have to leave your car on Martin Luther King Boulevard and downtown on Cincinnati. Will you, I hope there's some of his car left when he gets back to it. Will you lend him one of your rickshaws? Maybe for next week? Oh dude, I mean I'll get it. I'll give him a right in Wow. Hey, I don't know about out there, but uh, out of here, Harrison. There was some Chuck Norris siding
scared. Yeah, Chuck Norris, Remember Chuck North Yeah, well apparently he wants to run for office. And so next thing you know, in comes west Side Jim with a you know, Chuck Norrith t shirt on. He uh he Chuck want to sign up for sitting for the band too? And uh Dick, Dick took the day off. Yeah, Chuck, Chuck went up to Indianapolis. At all the radio has got thanks. Hold on, did you did you even think about any of this before you just started talking?
Because usually there's some a forethought, there's some preparation that goes in. And I'm not sure it's preparation, h what preparation it is, but there's some preparation surely that you know you're going to be calling me every Saturday morning. I mean, do you think about this stuff before you even say it? I mean, what is the deal, Dave? I do think about it? And we can't leave Bonce and hanging right Old Chuckie went out to
Ripley and the weather rock jumped into the river. How's that perfect? So? No, know you you didn't think this through. I know you didn't. There's no way you could have thought to yourself, this would be a fine presentation for your moment in the spotlight. I mean, there are other times I know when you've probably been a little bit lacking, and I'm being very generous when I say a little bit lacking in your material Dave. But this morning, man, it takes the cake, It eats the cake,
it regurgitates the cake. And it's six am, Garret Ja, six am. Say good night, Dick, good Dick. All right, thank you old radio Rick hanging on the line. And it's gotta go better than that did. If this is, if this is a precursor to hell, the morning's gonna go. Might as well just pack it up and go home. Hoo's the man you can count on. Willie? Who's the man looking out for you? Willie Who's the man who recreated Paul Revere's ride, except he

It's all connected and here to help us further connect those dots, mister radio himself, Old Radio Rick Washburn on the Pellow Windows and Doors Hotline Pella now pay later seven under WLW the slugs out of the way so we can continue our conversation. Now, how you doing? How you doing? Ricky? Do? What the great Gary? Jeff? How are you this morning?
Did you survive Thanksgiving? Oh? Yeah, absolutely, just as tired as you could possibly be when we got home around seven o'clock on Thursday night, and then yesterday took the day off from the bar just so we could recoup and also clean up all of the pots and crock pots and everything and get everything out of our car that we didn't have the energy to do on Thursday
night. That was what Friday was for. And since I don't know if you know this or you feel like this, but if you've ever been a person that has been in charge of a big feast like that, you don't generally get to eat very much. You know, you're serving other people, which is great. I mean, and I love that aspect of Thanksgiving is serving other people, especially when the food is good. And I took some time in preparation, more time preparing for the Thanksgiving dinner than Dave obviously prepared
for his phone call this morning. No, so right, So, but you don't eat a lot in those settings, so you really pray for leftovers. And we had some, thank God, and so yesterday all day long, and go and get a pot out of the car, get something out of the fridge, eat, get something else out of the car, get something from the fridge. And it went on like that all day long. I really should weigh that, I really should weigh about fifteen hundred pounds, but I don't. That's the way to do it. My friend, Oh,
no doubt. But how was yours? Had you had sushi giving? Is that correct? Yes? Yeah? My daughter came up to visit on Wednesdays. She had to work on the holiday and after so she requested that we have a pre Thanksgiving sushi fest, and so spent most of Wednesday Tuesday prepping and Wednesday making the rolls and so forth. It came out really well. And this time I did two smart things that I usually don't remember what.
I didn't make too much. And number two, I didn't nibble all the ends as I was cutting holes of down, so I was actually hungry when I got done. You actually made the rolls yourself there at home? Yes, well, it's it's something that Marie learned how to do from a YouTube vid you or something like twenty years ago. And she made a couple of roles and brought them to mails working out of town and says, here, taste this. Now you go in the kitchen and fix it. Okay.
Well you know, uh, with a skill like that, you could get to work at any number of gas stations across the country that sell sushi. That's right. Well I'm too big for the hat they make you wear, all right, big ahead of mine. So how are you receiving us? What are you receiving us on this morning? Are you receiving us at all? What's going on? Radio? Rick? I'll tell you what when Liam is out? We miss him? Oh boy, it was interesting. I thought I was having problems with this gal, and no it was it
was your station. But I think you're aware of that. Well, and here's the thing, when when you have a multi billion dollar corporation, and you have the number one station, the nation station. Uh, there's no need to have anybody here twenty four hours. I mean, what what's gonna happened? Let AI take care of it? Not? Yes, please go ahead. I'm sorry, No, I understand, Like I kept looking at the dial, going, am I on the right station? Even never move
So I don't know why it wouldn't be. This is a five by five reception report, loud and clear, coming in on a nineteen forty. It is an air castle, which means, for those of you fans of nineteen seventies game shows, it was sold by the Spiegel Company of Chicago, Illinois.
Yeah, I remember the gifts on Hollywood Squares or whatever. Hey, this is a it's it's an interesting looking radio because it has kind of this industrial rectangle speaker grill on top, and then below it is a dial that's a drum that when you tune it, instead of a needle going back and forth on the drum turns reviewing the or displaying the numbers of the station that
you're tuning to. Oh and as the kind folks of Karma looked at me, shine down and smiled at me today because I've got the catalog page for this. First of all, it describes it as an overseas cabinet, the new ultra smart continental shape with television style grill, because that explains the giant rivets around the speaker drill I don't know, and polished to a high piano
gloss, not according to the picture in the cabinet. But then it's the exclusive Rocket Roto dial, the most talked of dial of the year, a full vision drum dial with worldwide stations arranged for easy reference. That sounds like they moved the frequencies around the more convenient I don't think the radio can do that. It's what's amazing is that in nineteen forty I probably would have been talking of that dial, and we are here in twenty three, eighty three
years later, still talking of that dial. Now. Now here's the ultimate sales pitch though, the last line talking about the dial. You'll enjoy this feature. Yeah, you can't have to tell me that probably won't. Exactly, you can you can truy. You can trust me now, oh exactly. Coach, hope you had a great Thanksgiving. It was great. I spend some time with my family, my in laws and so it's good and everybody wants to know what your favorite Thanksgiving Day food was the con pie. That's my favorite type of pie. And our sport that one year. All right, let's talk about the Steelers and week of practice. You have a lot of confidence in your new quarterback, Jake Browning, Right, Yeah, Jake's earing this opportunity and we're out to rally around him and see what he
can do for us. Is this his first NFL start? It is outside of a preseason game, it's his first regular season to start, all right. Since I don't know anything about coaching and and football and getting ready for the game, do you have to change the offense or how you practice when you have a new quarterback, Well, you want to be mindful of things that he's He's had a lot of opportunities to rep, you know, because
he doesn't get him many rep as Joe. So you just have discussions with him to make sure he's comfortable with the things that we've been doing or things that maybe he's got a little more confidence in otherwise. But that's how it is with every quarterback you play with, and they're different this week with Jake. What about injuries? Sam Hubbard t. Higgins. Where are we at with those guys and more? Yeah? Sam, Sam's looking good right now.
He's a lot more doubtful for this week. Hopeful to get him back back and going next week. But otherwise we're pretty good on the injury front. All right, Steelers, their offense and defense. What do you see? What do you focus on? What worries you? Yeah, they just may have changed this week in offensive coordinator, so it'll be asa to see how that evolves of the course of the game with their offense. Defensively, they're physical, they're pressure you their defensive end, you know, TJ.
Watt and Alex tise Smith. I've really wont them a lot of games with taking the ball away, So mindful of that. All right, coach, bring me home a winner on Sunday. Thanks for talking. That sounds great. Thank you. With a Coast Radio seven hundred w L John Well,

They used to be at Brookies on Main Street.
Before that, they were at Snappers there in Ripley, Ohio. And now because of reception problems with Doug's phone, they're just driving around in his car on the Pellow Windows and Doors hotline Pella now and pay later. The gang from Ripley. How are we and where are we? This morning? Good morning, Good morning. We're sitting in my car Brookies. You're sitting in your car where Boies? Okay, all right, so you are outside Brookies. We we just got out here, put a plan together as far as our travel around, is it just you and the green hornet? Yeah, that's it. That's it. And an especially long delay on the phone line this morning. Again I hear that. So, so what is the plan? Well, the plan for you'd be for the day, or for the weekend or Brookies plans. I'll give you a Brookies plan to have shuffled tonight at nine pm. And the Queen of Hearts returns next day with a figure
of at least sixty thousand on the line. Oh, Lord of Mercy, you got a lot on the line too. Buckeye Doug is an OSU grad and he is a big fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, always will be. Can't help himself, especially this weekend. And the only thing that matters when you're an OSU fan is what Doug the game this weekend? Well? No, not not the game always. But the objective of the game is to what to win? No, the try to win on a level of playing field. No, the the object of the game is to crush,
kill, and destroy the Michigan Wolverines. Let's get it right, and let's hope it happens on a level playing field. This year, last two years, oh you think they were cheating the last two years. That's the only reason Michigan won. Oh yeah, watch the videotape and watch the Michigan Fine it's it's hilarious. It's like, yeah, they really did know every play
at a time. So Michigan, Michigan. You're saying, Michigan, you're saying cannot legitimately beat Ohio State. Uh, when you take past records prior to the last two years and uh, Michigan all just turned a corner and became this world killer. There's a lot of question. It couldn't have been that they were just better than Ohio State the last two years, could it? H No, when they were out recruited. So fishing going on up here. Speaking of fishy, I don't want Dave throwing our rock out in
the river. I don't have to swim and get it. No. I know, he was on some weird Chuck Norris tangent this morning. I have no idea what he was talking about. Yes, he was, so, what is the weather beaver doing to stay warm? Well, he's got a buffaler on and a little, you know, a hoodie, but he's doing okay, Yeah, yeah, he says it's gonna be nice, but we might have a chief lakes in the morning. You know how that is? He was the a Ohio State University president from nineteen seventy two to eighty one, which means he was the one who fired head football coach wood he hates in December of nineteen seventy eight after Woody slug an opposing player in the Gator Bowl game on national TV. But President Anderson left
a far more enduring legacy. By the way, he was the president of OSU who created the first black culture center on campus. He was born in rural Iowa. Who else do we know was born in rural Iowa? Anyway? President Anderson was quite the progressive when it comes to athletics on campus, but he waited till leaving Columbus to attack corruption outright. In an article in nineteen eighty two, it was entitled cheating is the problem? His theme the
task is how to bring athletic programs under more effective control. Here is the quote. Listen carefully. It is out of control or loose controlled on many campuses. It is out of control when student athletes and yours truly would question that term anytime now, are admitted in violation of rules governing admissions. It is out of control when academic transcripts are subverted by powerful friends of the university,
coaches and university administrators. It is out of control when grades are falsified, where there are phantom classes and forged transcripts. It is out of control when decisions of far reaching consequence, such as oh, catch this, enlarging the football stadium, or shifting to a different conference are made without the usual internal review. Well, that was in nineteen eighty two. That's upgrade or downgrade to twenty twenty three, when nil incentives were we have six year seniors.
Now we have guys transferring to a third university's graduate program and still playing in sports where fan interest is now dominated by big money bets not only on the games, but also on the player's individual performances. Jerry Maguire said, it follow the money. Well, Gary, Jeff, I sent you an email this week which is a copy of one I sent to a fellow that I interviewed in nineteen ninety three, a former NFL player Phi Beta Kappa,
all American. And I don't know if I have permission to use his last name, because he sent me another email and I'll read it. Just call him Michael PhD in Stanford at Stanford in literature many decades, a professor at Oregon State University played last night and later an assistant college dean at OSU has written many books on the subject of college sports. So I laid it out for what we have been doing the last three weeks on the show. And
here was Michael's reply. I may be even more disgusted than you about the restructuring underway all for the benefit of quote student athletes unquote, because Oregon State has been expelled from major college football at the cost of my institution, not just the athletic program. That's an interesting point because a lot of the money,
the big money, goes into the institution's general fund. If you didn't know, we are no longer peers to cal Stanford and UCLA, but soon we're going to be peers to Boise State, Presdo State, et cetera. Now what that means is they're being downgraded after this season. Now, this is a former NFL player and an All American. I'm not going to care
about college football at all. Yes, it's been going on forever, but the absolute control of college sports by television is relatively recent, since maybe the nineteen nineties. There were already enough horrible things going on in this world before this had to happen. Signed Mike Wow. I immediately thought of the defection
of UCLA and USC the two LA schools to the Big Ten. So now the Big ten, which is what sixteen now, I guess, has moved into not only the huge East coast TV markets with Rutgers in Maryland, but now they've got Los Angeles, the number two market in the country. And as at a side on this, I was thinking of wouldy again violence in these games. I don't know if any of you people have noticed this, but I'll give you an example from yesterday Arkansas versus Missouri. Players were ejected
in the first half alone. And that was not a fight. That was a brawl. It was ridiculous. And you see it all the time. There's this taunting. You know. The behavior is is street behavior, it's not stadium behavior. Yeah, it's ridiculous. And you know, I'm not blaming any of you people who bet on games, but I think that there's a tie between all the money, all the betting, and the change you know, in the sport generally. And what I'm predicting is and I think
Michael, my friend in Oregon, would say the same thing. It's going to create a disaster. There is going to be a disaster. You are going to have some scandals like you wouldn't believe it. By the way, Gary Jeff, Iowa State has been involved in something that the Attorney General of the State of Iowa is investigating now with regard to players betting on games.
And I think they also extended that investigation to you. And I was the University of Northern Iowa, and that's two of the three major programs in our favorite state. Well, Steve, I've got to tell you, we're kind of short on time. But I've got to tell you Hawkeyes really don't care about cyclones. And I think yourself all right, And I think the violence and and everything else he's talking about detracting from the beauty of the game is
just mirroring the chaos that's going on in the rest of society. So I don't know if there's any end to it. In Sight six fifty six, Cincinnati Playhouse, I can't disagree with the great Satchmos. What a wonderful world is I see tree is a green rest, I've seen them blue from you, and I think to myself, what a wonderful good morning, Steve. We are we're relatively short on time. I know you had some things from the CO two Coalition you wanted to get to. So let's get right down
to it. Let's get down to it. In honor of Thanksgiving holiday brought by C two Coalition dot org, Greg Wright Wrightstone, executive director of the Friend of Yours and doctor William Happer, PhD, Professor Emeritus, Department of Physics, Prince and you, uh, doctor Happer put this YouTube together. It's full over two minutes video accompanied by Louis Armstrong's song what a Wonderful World,
and it's a beautiful, beautiful window video. All you have to do is go into the website, you know, go into the internet, type in what a wonderful World thanks to CO two and it'll take you to the
YouTube video. And so yeah, urge everybody to do that and enjoy and speaking of Thanksgiving and food also through with a CO two coalitionon dot org, they had a November twentieth news item that the combination of modest warming since the sixties, more CO two in the atmosphere and nitrogen fertilizer derived from fossil fuels are increasing crop yields worldwide. This abundance of food production Gary Jeff has caused deaths due to famine to be in steep decline. In fact, compared to
the nineteen sixties, famine deaths are down ninety eight percent. I repeat, famine deaths are down ninety eight peruised more two. Yeah, thanks the CS. Afternoon to high about forty seven. Tomorrow morning's low thirty one with a chance of some snow early on Sunday, and then switching to all rain as we move on through the day. Tomorrow, Ohio again in the upper forties, partly Sunday in thirty eight. On Monday, prist date ram truck fires.
This is it the Black Friday sales event all month long. It's here at Monday. A man who has made a living listening to people's bodies talk now talking to us on the pillow, windows and doors, hotline pillar now
pay later. Roco Costellano, how are you doing, my friend? I've I've got this cell phone right here, this iPhone in my hand, and uh, we've heard for years, although we haven't seen the definitive studies, maybe you've got the definitive studies that said that the that the electromagnetic frequencies that come out of cell phones can cause cancer. What do you know about this?
Well, so there are there are definitive studies actually many of them now that are showing that if you use your cell phone against your ear, against your ear and then for more for more than two hours hours a day, that that it will cause the the E M s will cause uh cancer on that side of your head. So they do have they can cause cancer,
not that they will cause cancer. They can well so no, so we we do have we have seen that that a majority of the people that have been uh that have been in the you know, in the test groups, are are getting you know, and and it's the it's the actual hours used. Okay, so if you're using the finding that if you're using you know, like headphones or you're using the speaker phone on on your cell phone, that that's not doing anything. If you hold your your cell phone against your
ear, that's what's actually I actually ruck the actual problems. I actually heard from somebody and I don't know if this is true or not, but it kind of makes sense. Even if the cell phone is off and in your pants pocket, it could it could possibly cause testicular cancer in men. Well, actually it's just it's not uh, that's still being debated, but it does. Uh. Cell phone use is uh is bringing down the sperm count
in in men. So we're not sure how how, but uh the longer you use your cell phone, the uh your sperm count is and your testosterones uh likely to drop. Well. Also, I will we do have a definitive proof of that. I will tell you this. I only talk on my my iPhone on the speaker because the ear piece isn't loud enough for me to hear anybody. So I'm I'm always and I try, and I have
a charger out front, and we sleep in the back bedroom. I'm I'm trying to most times when I'm charging my phone just have it as far away from my head and sleeping as possible, which I don't think is a bad idea. Well, it's never a bad idea to keep, you know, to keep anything that emits e ms uh, you know, away from you. It's just you know, we're so we're surrounded by it all the time, no doubt. Good morning Gary, Jeff This week caffeinated kid creating headlines around the world. But first, a woman known only as Betsy says her Rumba,
the robot vacuum, went missing for a couple of days. Now, thinking it was just stuck in a closet or something somewhere, she went looking for it, but turns out it had left the house and had been roaming the streets for days, and then somehow it made its way back home. She went back and looked at the ring doorbell footage, and sure enough, one day, when the door was left open, the vacuum just buzzed right down the front sidewalk and into the street. Get your green beans now or

There have been a couple of crashes evolving semis carrying forty pounds of green beans and other issues. This is your warning, get your green beans now. A guy in a chicken costume was arrested in Putnam County, Georgia. Jason Pinch was dressed up like a chicken, shouting at people, slapping passing cars, and even asking his arresting officers, are
you real? He was arrested for disorderly conduct, but he never did explain the chicken suit. And finally, the coke kid has kicked the habit. People went nuts when they found out about the British toddler who drank six cans of soda a day. The three year old was made famous on the internet when his mother casually posted about having to keep so much pop in the house
to keep her addicted son happy. That post led to child services getting involved, and the kid has now kicked his thirty six hundred calorie a day drinking habit. Crazy kid should have went with diet do zero calories all the fun. Next week, after the first one hundred packages arrived, she started asking questions. One woman struggle after her address was mistaken as a shipping depot.
Have a great weekend. Attention footies. Jungle Jim updates brought to you in part by Rouse American grilled on seven hundred WLW, the home of the best Bengals coverage. All right, sickness and in here with me this morning. Seg I don't even like saying the word Pittsburgh, let alone the word Steelers, but we got to talk about him. That's true. Playing the Steelers
on Sunday. What are your thoughts? It should be interesting, of course, you know Joe Burrows out for the rest of the season with that wrist injury. Now it's time for Jake the Snake to take over. He's been waiting for this for a long time. He's going to get his shot starting Sunday and for the rest of the season. He's the man unless it maybe all falls apart and AJ mccerran comes in, But right now it's Jake Browning, and from all accounts, so the team has a complete confidence in Browning
getting the job done. He's proven it in the past and preseason and playing spot here and there and things. So we'll just wait and see what happens. What do you think about the Steelers offense and defense? They scare you anyway, I don't know. It should be interesting starting Sunday. The Steelers fired Matt Canada, their offensive coordinator, earlier in the week, and they wanted to run him out of town for a long time because the Steelers stink
at every offensive category known to mankind in the NFL. This year. So they've got a new offensive coordinator, they got a new play caller, so it should be interesting to see. The Bengals staff may have to kind of play along with things and go along with it to see, you know, if there's any difference between having Canada there and these new guys. They just elevated a couple of guys. A quarterback coach is going to call the plays,
elevated another guy to offensive coordinator. So it should be interesting. But maybe a chess match on Sunday. Here's something nobody's talked about this week that I've heard of. Is the season over and we're play for twenty twenty four. Now. I don't think so Oka. I mean I think that. I mean, we'll see what Jake Browning does. I mean, years ago, the Bengal quarterback got hurt and some guy by the name of the late Turk Schooner took over and brought the team back. So maybe it's brown you
know, like I said, it's Browning's time. He's waited for this. He's been on this practice squad, that practice squad. Heck, he's been here for a few years, so he knows the sick you know, when Burrow got hurt sitting there against Baltimore. He said, just call the play and he knows it. He knows it backwards and forward. So wait and say that's going to be the big story. And then injury wise, looks like T Higgins is going to be out again, likely with that hamstring.
Sam Hubbard limited yesterday in practice. Don't know about that ankle. We'll see what happens. He's a big, big deal in that Cincinnati defense. So we'll see if the Ohio state product can get in there and Adam Mohler and get in there. And so the Steelers come to town at six and four. They lost on a last second field goal last week in Cleveland, so
they're probably, uh, you know, this division is crazy. It's too bad that Burrow got hurt because it would get even crazier because you know, you know, they were projecting at all four teams in the a f C North. We're going to make it. That's not gonna happen. I will, I don't think so. Sag Dennison here with the Bengals update. Rn
L Carriers has immediate career opportunities nationwide. Looking for a career in the transportation is to be loved, needed the show of someone's ons and they indeed want to understand my upset Donalds. And then with sweet love and devolution, my mot coping stup the sun and thank you all the sweet downs of Motown coming down on a Saturday morning on seven hundred w l W the Great Marvin Gaye
and launches our foray into this week's musical picks. And the guy who helped me curate this and has all the backstories, Jim LEVARV with the music professor, Good Morning prov tell me about Marvin Gaye. How sweet it is? This is? This is the week that it entered the trite to teak at number six, that was there for fourteen weeks on the charts in nineteen sixty
five. Lamont Doz're all right? Holland does You're in Holland? That was that team, songwriting team, production team and came up with the idea. Jackie Gleason inspired this because of his signature phraise Oh. He used to say how sweet it is and that's where they picked up on that. Now. But Martos who wrote the lyrics, so it was wishful thinking. He said that the piano fantasizing about how good. It would be at this woman he liked had eyes for him, was feeling the same way he felt about her.
But the truth is, he said, man, she never gave me a second look. So he created this fantasy and that's what he did with his songs, and all of these affections came out and then he said, oh, I eventually won a rover left and he halland was the guy came up with the title on the hook of the song. The rest took a little bit longer to put together. Marvin Gabe was still reading from the lyrics
sheet at the recording session. They were making changes and this was the second of Martin Gaye's thirteen top ten hits, and it became a gigantic hit for him in one of his signature songs and one of the few songs were because this songwriting team that started off with a heartbreak story and then upbeat music. But this was upbeat from the very beginning. A decade later, James Taylor,
same song in seventy five makes it a top five hits. Yeah, I love JT's version two real quickly, Jim, Let's preview our next hit by those those incredible girls at Motown. Yeah, This is their eighth number one, number one this week in nineteen sixty sixth again Holland does You're in?
Holland wrote the song put it all together specifically for the Supergius, about a woman who knows the guy doesn't love her, and lamonts you said when he wrote the song, He said, I have often broken up with a girl, you know, for a week or so, just to be able to get that feeling. So I could write the lyrics. And they created that stuttering guitar line that's in here, inspired by radio station signal for news.
In the news flashes that that's where that came from, and Robert White's guitar leads that, and a little side note, they didn't lan d lid that line. There ain't nothing I can do about it. When the girls were talking back and forth, it was they wanted that in there purposely for everyday talk, to make it sound more real, and it became you know, a number one, yes this week in sixty six. You keep me hanging on, baby, No send me? Why do you pay? Yeah,
my god, pay because you don't rend. You just keep me head off. You don't really keep me, but you keep me hanging Why do you keep it coming around? Play with my heart? Why say go out of my life and let me make them listen up, let me know by you. No way you not love on me? Send me for you? Why don't you pay? Let me do you? He just keep you? Still just friends? Still see it? Rest and oh Yeah, Dinas and the Supremes. This morning on seven hundred w l W, it's Rock and
Roll Archaeology with Jim Barber, the music Professor. Jimmy up next. This is a song I never quite understood the lyrics because he claims he's talking to a fisherman's daughter, and yet the fisherman's daughter is tied up to the dock and can't get fre was the fisherman like in Islamic giantist? Or what tell me about his next song? It's a metaphor. It's a metaphor suggesting living in a much better Moore creative life. But she takes off with this.
Guys, Dennis one the group Everybody's son. He and his brother, well Dennis fighting and celebrated the birthday on a Wednesday, and he's thirteen years old. His brother was playing the guitar and then he went to catch up. So he's learned how to play it on his own. They leave Kansas and his brother they go to New York City and in nineteen sixty seven is clean Cut Image was a perfect foil. They came up a bunch of guys, clean cut guys, and it was the foil to the hippie invasion groups of
that time. And the clean image is exactly the reason why MGM Records signed them and they kept this album and that was the only thing that became a hit for the album. But not only did the band look like the Beach Boys, but if you listen to it, it echoes the sounds of Beach Boys, Brian Wilson especially, And this is a leadoff single. They run their MGM management. They did a couple television shows, there were guest on the Man from Uncle and Uh. Then one year later that was it.
Dennis Lloyden, the group broke up and he became a member of Ricky Nelson's Stone Canyon Band. This is this is one hit, the one, a true one hit wonder every Mother's son. Dennis Lloyd checking out the fisherman's daughter. She sits on adop fish in the water. I don't know the name she's a fisherman's daughter. Come on, well, we can play. She's so nice that she wants to come with me, but she tied to the
dots. G K gets free all come on down and play one time, all right, Jim Our last on our list is Uh, a guy we featured before, but it was his other big hit. This is Andrew Gold. Time tell me about this? Yeah, the singer, songwriter, producer, son of the composer Ernest Gold. It was in the genes for him. Studio musician very popular in the early seventies, played guitar, sang on bother Linda Wants That recordings, So he wrote this song about it. Took
him about an hour to write this song. It was a throwaway thing. Didn't think much of it, sussedots about an hour. It didn't give it much consideration. However, recording it, it took a long time. Forty takes. See what would take number forty and the unusual instrument in the mix of this track sleigh bells Now. This is the breezy song of that southern
California sound in the late seventies. And Andrew Gold said he was going through again with Brian Wilson's name Brian Wilson says that he was going through and he shows gratitude a true friendship. Seven years later, this song becomes a theme song for the NBC sitcom The Golden Girls. Now this might be the best
song ever written about friendship and gratitude. You know, Thanksgiving time, we was thinking about this song as we keep together with a relative once again, looking past whatever frictions may exist with those relationships and find the best way to properly tell everybody individually collectively thank you for being the family. And this song says it all. It's thank you for being my friend and gold and he just had a birthday this week, right, No, no, I just
decided to say this because of Thanksgiving. Well we don't need a reason. Great song. Everybody sing along. Thank you for being a friend. Thank you, professor, Thank you back again. Your heart is true, your repel and a confident I'm not ashamed to see. I hope it always will stay this way. My hat is off. Won't just stand up and take a ball? And did you through a party invited everyone you knew well you would see the biggest giffer me for me and the card of tax would say

Nif it's a car you lack, I truly buy you a catialag whatever you need any time of the day and night. I'm not ashamed to say I haven't been always to stay this way where my hat is off. Want to stand up and take a bow. And when we both and all that with walking kas and hair read have y'll be even though it's on to here, I will
stand with lo say he said, thank you for being friend. Want to thank you, thank you for being a friend. Want to thank you, thank you for being a friend. I want to thank you, thank you for being a friend. I wanna thank you. Let me tell you about a fad. Thank you, thank you for being a friend. Want to thank you. I need a crank. You are a crank. Before we get to it, Gary Jeff just saw the stat and since the Roe v. Wade was overturned, there's they calculated that we've had an additional thirty two thousand people joining us on this so world. So we'll just be that stat, you know, I'm sure we'll hear that on the news. But I wonder how many how many babies have been murdered though, even since the decision. I
know, yeah, we'll move on. Just give me that number. Yes, we just had a interesting thing happened, actually happened a couple of years ago. But it takes a while to analyze these things. So we all
the time we get bombarded by cosmic rays. And cosmic rays are generated sometimes from the Sun and sometimes far off from like supernova and stars colliding, and they have different types of energies, and when they have enough energy, Garry Jeff, they hit our atmosphere, our plan and they get through the atmosphere, and then they hit other particles and they get like cast gate effect that all these streaming particles will hit actually the Earth's surface, and we have detectors
to check these out. And what happened in twenty twenty one, is we had a particle that hit and created a cascating effect, and they calculated the energy of this particle to be two point four at times ten to the twentieth electron bolts. Now that's a lot. How much is that? That's similar to like a weight Miley fastball? Enough energy like sixty miles per hour fastball. The interesting thing about it is there is nothing within one hundred and sixty
million light years to generate a single particle to have that much energy. So imagine a proton traveling over one hundred and sixty million light years through the universe, changed by different magnetic fields and coming and hitting us. And they have no idea where this particle what could generate this type of energy, and the path that it came from came from a region in space that is void of any galaxies or any other type of black holes or anything that could create a
particle of this energy. The last time we detected a particle like this was like in nineteen ninety where was three point two times twenty electron goals. So it's just an interesting thing that happen and we have no idea how it happened, and if we could harness that energy, imagine being able to harness that energy and and you know, operate things you want to talk about. It's not sustainable, but it would be a nice little boost. Yeah, I'll take it. Dayling ower my duke Bill. Yeah, I just got got
ours for this month and it's not even been cold yet. I can't wait to see next bats to run, put on fire or just start burning furniture. All right, Mike, let me know about that. When it comes to college football, the last Saturday of the season is often you know, all the other head to head matchups and of course the big game in Columbus, Ohio State the Michigan Wolverines and there's no love lost ever between these two schools and their fans. To talk about that and much more, the One and Only mo Egar, Hey, mo, good morning, good morning. What's going on? Well, you know what, it's just football,
football and more football. The first ever Black Friday NFL game yesterday, and thank you NFL Network for replaying that game last night so I could enjoy it since I I haven't been into the Amazon Prime Apple yet, but it was great to watch the game yesterday. The games on Thursday I thought were you know, while they weren't all of them weren't that competitive, they were also
very telling about who those teams were, especially the Dallas game. Man, the Cowboys are dominant at home against teams that are lesser than them, but they're about to head into the heavy part of their schedule, and you know, I guess heavy parts of schedule. That's the thing about the NFL that I was noticing is you start to finally in a league that is any given
Sunday, anybody can win. You start to finally find out who teams really are because it's down to it's down to the nuts and bolts of the season, and you know, playoff potentials are happening and people are trying to win divisions and win home field advantage. Don't you find it? This weekend, starting with the Thursday games and what will continue on this weekend is one of the more crucial weekends in the NFL where you separate the week from the chaff.
Yeah, I think there's I think there's some little by to that. Also, you know, teams, this really starts to be where attrition starts to settle in right. We've seen that around the league with all the quarterbacks who have gotten hurt. I think this is you talk about who teams really are. I think a measure of in any sport of how good a team really is is its depth. And this is the time of year where we start to see who has the most debt at the most crucial positions. That
Dallas team. You're right, man. When they're at home, offensively, they are incredible. The issue has been when they're away from home, when they're away from home against good teams. But I mean, heck, they got to the Washington defensive coordinator Jack del Rio fired after that game on Thursday.
I think that Dak Prescott was terrific. I think, perhaps though the most significant result was Detroit losing, because you know, that's a team that has kind of been connect with the Philadelphia Eagles for the top seed in the NFC, and there is now such a clear advantage to being the top seed since we've expanded the playoff field. You're the only team that's going to get a first round by and you know, let's face it, we talked about
that with the Bengals at the end of last season. Boy, if you could, if you could be good enough in the regular season to get that first round by, that's one less game you have to play. That's one less game you have to play where maybe you deal with a significant jury and you're not going to have to play anywhere besides your own park. And so that game on Thursday in Detroit with a pretty well rounded Green Bay effort.
I think that game could have very big reverberations. As we talked about what's going to happen in January, you mentioned the Dallas game. How about five pick sixes in one season and NFL What wasn't that the Dallas game? Yeah? Yeah, yes, yeah, you know you know who was drafted one pick ahead of him? Who? Tyson Anderson? Tyson Anderson of the Bengals, who, unfortunate for Tyson is currently on IR and he is a nice special teams player. He doesn't have five pick sixes. Five pick six is
in one season. He's got more defensive touchdowns than almost any other team in the league, doesn't he. Yeah, it's incredible. It's it's it's and five in you know, basically two thirds of a season. It's one thing. You have five in a full seventeen games late, he's got five and we're not to December yet. It's remarkable. There will be no asterisks next to that record. No, and he may have two or three more before
the season's over. Yeah, that was just amazing to watch. Any surprises this week in the four NFL games that have been played so far for you, Uh No, I thought Seattle would be maybe a little bit more competitive. But man, you know, it feels like, I know, the Bengals went to San Francisco and won, but they didn't have Deebo Samuel, they didn't have Trend Williams. When when that team is health is healthy.
First of all, they're a blast to watch offensively, yep. Secondly, I think there is as excuse me, as complete a team as you'll find in the league. Their defense just you know, it feels like at times like they have twelve or thirteen guys on the field with as quick as they are to the ball. Christian McCaffrey is, you know, great at finding
the end zone. They've got a terrific tight end and in George Kittle, and they have a system that just seems to really work no matter who the quarterback is, which is something I think we're going to find out about the Bengals starting tomorrow against the Pittsburgh Steelers. But I thought Seattle would be a little bit more competitive. I guess Detroit losing at home is certainly, you
know, would fall into the category of surprise. But Jordan Love and Green Bay is is playing pretty well and did so with injuries in the backfield, and you know, he certainly might not make anybody forget about Aaron Rodgers anytime soon, but he feels like he's an as sending young player. Well, you mentioned the forty nine ers, and obviously they are worth mentioning at this point. The Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles are just I mean they they have
met every challenge this year. What about the Eagles? They're great? Uh, you know, to go in Kansas City and get out gained and you know, win that Super Bowl rematch. You know, first of all, for me, they're they're terrific on the offensive line. They have an extraordinarily well constructed running offense. Uh, they can get after the quarterback. Yeah. Look, I mean they were in the Super Bowl last year for a reason. They have the best record in the the NFC. They've got to
figure out a way to keep Jalen Hurts healthy and upright. But I mean, look, they're they're in the pole position as we come down the stretch. Uh, and you know, having gone to Kansas City and you know how hard that is to do to do it again despite getting out gained, says a lot. And they might have in Nick Sirianni, my favorite NFL
had who's not Mike McDaniel of the Miami Dolphins. Oh yeah, he's great, And you're right, McDaniel is just something else, man, He's he is a totally different cat from anybody else who holds that position in the National Football League. I was watching the the Iowa game, the Iowa Nebraska game yesterday. Kirk Ferentz has been head coach. He's the longest tenured coach in the Big Ten. He's been at Iowa for twenty five years. My dad
is an Iowa lum. That was the first phone call I made when it was, you know, finally over and Iowa had won in the field goal at the end. And I'm just thinking, it's not that he doesn't recruit players that have offensive skill. I mean, Iowa was known as tight end university. You think about all of the great tight ends that have come out of that program. But Kurt Ferentz plans on his team not scoring and winning games, and they've done that again this year with the most penible defense that
anybody puts on a field in major college football. Any comments on the Iowa Hawkeyes rolling to that thirteen to ten victory over Nebraska. That was a larger score than a lot of people thought would be. Yeah, still finished beneath the posted total of twenty four and a half points. Yeah, they won the Big Ten West. Now they're probably going to get slaughtered next week by
either Michigan or Ohio State. But they won the Big Ten West, with which, you know, let's be honest, is that the weaker the two Big Ten divisions by far. But they have figured out a way more than anybody else in that division to win ugly looking football games. And their offense is wretched, but you're right, what they do on defense is more than commendable, especially in this era of hyper offensive college football. Man, it's
every year with Kirk for Insan's teams in Iowa. Every year it's like you're not looking for a offensive explosion out of any of his teams. And he again, the longest tenured coach in the Big Ten. So that says a lot about that program and that coach and the way they win games when they do. We're down to Ohio State and Michigan today and you said, no matter who wins the game, isn't it who is cheated the most in scouting
the game? Who's going to win? Quite possibly, although I think that's unfair to Ohio State because I don't think anybody's connected them with any sort of gee exactly. But you know, it adds a layer to what is one of easily, if not the best rivalry in sports, certainly one of them,
and I can't wait for that game today. Ohio State versus Michigan is always awesome, but it's awesome when it carries with it the ramifications that this game does, because there's a very very good chance that the loser today, despite the season they've had, is going to be on the outside looking in next Sunday when the college football playoff field is announced. And you know, I think this game is about can can Michigan achieve some balance? You know,
they've they've been so good at running the football. But Ohio State, for all of the for all of the accolades that Ryan Day has been given as an offensive coach, and for as much as people think about the elite skill guys they have, and Marvin Harrison Junior, the wide receiver of the
Buckeys, might be the best player in college football. They haven't given up more than seventeen points in a game this season, and they go into this game, you know, I mean, after dominating Michigan for years and years and years, they've lost the last two. I think there's a fair amount of pressure on Ryan Day to break through and beat Michigan, certainly with the
stakes that are there. And then there's the whole Harrorball dynamic with Sharon Moore coaching the team and Michigan's head coach not being able to be on the sideline. I think this is going to be a lot of fun this afternoon. But I do, and you know, my colleague Tony Pike and I have talked about this. I give a slight edge to Ohio State because I think
they can be the slightly more balanced team on offense. You see Kansas today, The Bearcats football season wraps up pretty much what everybody expected was going to happen, going to the Big Twelve with a new coach and all of the other things that you see has had to deal with this year. Going into the Big Twelve, you'll be there. How does how does the Bearcats win this game? We I'm gonna have to figure out a way to make Kansas
beat a throw in the football. Their running attack is as good as you'll find. That's a good Kansas team, and you know, I think for Cincinnati, I thought the collective effort last week against West Virginia was extraordinarily disappointing, you know, quite quite honestly, there was this vibe of they had gotten their win the week before against Houston, they had ended this streak,
and we didn't see the same motive or intensity against West Virginia. And then you add to that, West Virginia's offensive line is terrific and beat up the Bearcats up front, which is not supposed to happen because Cincinnati's strength is supposed to be it's defensive line. You're going to have to figure out ways to slow down Kansas on the ground, but I think, more than anything,
make them throw the football against you. And you see, is just going to have to figure out ways to get out of its own way, which has been you know, the seam of the season. You and I have talked about it all year, oftentimes and not so much last week. They have stood toe to toe physically with teams, They've outgained a bunch of opponents, but they shrink their own margin for air with turnovers, penalties, mental mistakes, assignment errs, and those are things that you sort of shrug your
shoulders about in September. When they keep popping up in November, it's really problematic. Hopefully those things don't pop up tonight. I don't have any reason to believe this. I don't have any evidence, but I have a really good feeling about the Bengals Steelers game. Tomorrow. We vis the Bengals cracking through with a win. What about you not be on the realm of possibility Pittsburgh. Offensively, they've been out gained in every game they played, which
is why they let their offensive coordinator go. This feels like seventeen to sixteen either way. This feels like, you know, two teams that are just going to try to figure out a way to manage the clock. I think though Pittsburgh, I give them an advantage from two different perspectives. Say what you want about their starting quarterback, Kenny Pickett. They're starting a starting quarterback number two. The Bengals want to play now field position football with their punter
Brad Robbins. I'm not sure they could do that to the extent that they would like. They've also got to figure out a way to block PJ. Watt. But I think if you were to ask both coaches, at least privately, they would say, we feel like if we can get to twenty points, we can win this football game. You certainly don't expect the Bengals to light at the scoreboard with Jake Browning. The Steelers offensively have looked like Iowa for much of the season, and so it very much does feel like
sixteen, seventeen seven and seventeen fourteen, something like that. Games like that often hinge on a turnover. Games like that are often decided by a field position. Can the Bengals win a field position battle, which they could not in Baltimore last Thursday. Maybe we'll see guys in sweatshirts wearing punts like they were in the Iowa Nebraska game yesterday. Moe, have a fantastic night, and good luck to the Bearcats playing at Nippert in their final home game.
Mike Allen counselor, Good morning, Saturday, midday, Just ahead, are you doing brother? Doing fine? Good? Fine? Good? Thanksgiving excellent? What about yours? Mine was good? Mine was good. My daughter came in from the army kind of have a last minute deal. Nobody wanted to cook, so we went out that's the first time I've ever done that. No, that's easy, no cleanup. No. But what sucks about it is I don't have any turkey sandwiches leftovers. Come on over, brother,
Okay, we got plenty of leftovers. Better be careful. After the show show at Huddles today we will be there and as the just mentioned, we'll have all of the big games, the Ohio State Michigan game. Come by in a friend of the atmosphere, a nice warm place to sit and have a pint or two and real quickly on Saturday midday, what's your theme. Well, we're gonna be talking about the hostage released yesterday, and my big question is where were the Americans. No Americans released and they were supposed
to be five, but no Americans. We're going to talk about that. Well, I thought the Israeli should have bombed to Moss into non existence if they did not release all the hostages. Yeah they haven't, and yeah, I'm not a big fan of giving them a break. It's awful. It just is. And it shows what degenerates they are. Oh, they're the worst people on the planet. Well, Moss and the Palestinians who support them the worst people. On the planet. I think the word Gary Jeff is
vermin. Yep, exactly. Thank you very much. That's it's ahead. Have a fantastic rest to your weekend. Seven hundred wlws. You an idea for an invention or new product and don't know what to do next. Inventors invent Help can help you get started with your
