This is Gary and Shannon and you're listening to KFI AM six forty, the Gary and Shannon Show on demand on the iHeartRadio app.
Two people shot and killed outside of a Jewish museum in DC at event there. These two people were staff members of the Israeli embassy. The suspect yelled free Palestine after he was arrested. The Israeli Foreign Minister identified the victims as Jerone Leshinsky and Sarah Milgram. The Metro PD chief Pamela Smith said they were leaving that event when the suspect a group approached a group of four people
and shot two of them. Suspect was identified as a thirty one year old out of Chicago, and authorities have been going through his property. They just want to make sure that this guy was acting alone, that there was no other larger conspiracy to all of this. What's amazing is after the shooting, he walked into the museum and was detained by the security guards there. He had been pacing around over and over again outside the front of
the museum before the shooting itself took place. We'll tell you more about what's going on with the News and Bruce coming up tomorrow. But at the bottom of the hour we get into strained science, we're gonna ask, well, I'll tell you what science says is the best time to shower?
Is it morning or is it night?
Got a shower flight once when we get.
Home from work, or watch the sweat and the dirt and sang to the mayar once in the morning wake up.
So some people do two, some people do one. We're gonna have somebody who called in and said they don't do any h but we'll we'll get to that at the bottom of the hour. And when we get into strained science, what else is going on?
Time for what's happening?
We've been getting regular updates this morning out of San Diego where this plane crashed into a neighborhood there and left what they're calling a gigantic debris field. This plane went down in either the Tierra Santa Murphy Canyon neighborhoods, depending on which side of the freeway you think you're on. We've had different descriptions of it. This small Cessna five point fifty. It is a jet engine plane. It's a
small jet crashed at about three forty five. It appears as it was headed to the Montgomery Gibbs Executive Airport. The FAA said that the plane originally took off from Teeterborough, made its way to Wichita for a refueling stop in the middle of the night, and then was on its way again to the Montgomery Gibbs Executive Airport when it
crashed early this morning. Two fatalities, and according to San Diego Fire and Rescued Assistant Chief Dan Eddie, the belief is that the two fatalities were people on the plane. Eight other people were injured, but for the most part minor minor injuries, including some smoke inhalation. Not clear if it hit a house. You heard John Fink there live
from the scene discuss it. It looks like the plane could have hit house before it came down, but as it came down, it spilled a burning jet fuel all over that neighborhood and there were a dozen cars a dozen two dozen cars that were burned to a crisp as a result of that fire. PCH is expected to open tomorrow after months have closed to regular travel because of the Palisades fire. It looks like an eleven mile stretch of PCH is going to reopen tomorrow, just in time.
For the Memorial Day weekend.
We've seen a couple of different stores say they're going to have to raise prices because of tariffs.
Nike is the latest.
Nike is joining a chorus of companies said that they're going to increase costs for their clothing and equipment that comes in from over overseas. That is, price bumps are going to vary on different items. Markups range from two bucks to ten bucks. If you're buying shoes, by the way, somewhere between one hundred and one hundred and fifty, they say that the increase would be about five dollars. Any shoe more expensive than that is probably going to go
up by ten bucks. The increases are set to go into effect June first, about a month before the onset of the tariffs the way they're expected. Walmart was one of the other companies that did that. But Walmart also announced that they're going to eliminate about fifteen hundred jobs in a restructuring effort. They want to cut expenses, they want to speed some decision making, they said, so they're
eliminating roles as they open. Some new roles assigned with the sorry aligned with the business priorities.
And the growth strategy.
They said those affected by the job cuts will still have jobs through August, and they're working with those that are affected in order to find their next step, including in some cases just giving them a different job at a different Walmart or somewhere else in the company. Well, we're going to cut off all of our pennies. Wall Street Journal reports that the Treasury is going to stop
putting new pennies into circulation by early next year. That obviously could change the the way we pay for stuff. It costs. We've talked about this story before. It costs almost four cents to make one penny. I mean, it's not as expensive or out of whack as perhaps a nickel is, which also costs about fifteen cents to make a nickel. Canada did away with its pennies fifteen years ago, ten years ago, fifteen years ago, and without a one
cent coin, your cash transactions are going to change. So if you buy something with cash now, although nobody does that, you're just going to have it rounded to the nearest nickel. A nineteen dollars and eighty two cent purchase becomes nineteen dollars and eighty cents if it was a eighty three cents. It would be eighty five is what you pay the payments with checks or debit. Our credit cards are still going to go down into the individual sense and they
don't have to be rounded up. SpaceX has been cleared to launch Starship after two explosive failures. If given the green light, has federal regulators for another test flight of Starship, the most powerful launch vehicle ever constructed. There were two massive explosions that happened earlier this year that reigned debris
near islands in the Caribbean and the Atlantic. The FAA said that SpaceX can move forward with the next launch attempt while an investigation into the vehicle's most recent failures is ongoing. So you can do one while you're doing the other. Newsom Bruce coming up tomorrow Bravery Brewing in Lancaster will do the show out there live from nine to one and then record the gas weekend fix after
one o'clock for everybody who's still there. We want to make sure that we have a lot of audience participations, so we'll see out there at starting at nine o'clock and we'll be there well passed one up.
Next, Heather Brooker is going to join us live.
We'll be talking about some of the big weekend, big Memorial Day weekend entertainment stuff that's coming up.
You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI AM six forty.
Heather Brooker has joined us. She keeps her figure on the pulse of the world of entertainment.
I love to I enjoy it so much. This is my favorite thing. I think I've told you that before every week Let's talk about movies. Let's talk about movies. Man, this is the big weekend, Memorial Dy weekend. We've got some well, the box office is back, We've got Mission Impossible, the Final Reckoning is opening this weekend. Lelo and Stitch, the live action, much anticipated live action is opening this weekend.
And the pre sales and the predictions for the box office is that both of these movies are going to be huge.
Your daughter is twelve, twelve, just turned twelve.
Yeah, so she was probably too late for the Leelo and Stitch animated.
Yes, I'm sure she's seen it. Yes, yeah, we've seen it.
It's funny because in this article that you printed out, it says that they're for the live action Lelo and Stitch they're targeting women late teens, early twenties, that would be they would have the most memories of the original le Loo and Stitch, and that they're targeting men in that same demo.
Yeah, I think gay men. Maybe maybe that's maybe more. I mean not to throw Disney out there like that, but I think that I think that there is uh that very much that Disney adult that they're going after with this one. The people who are dropping hundreds, if not thousands of dollars on Lounge Fly backpacks, and you know, it's that nostalgia core that we talked about, the nostalgia baits.
They know that the people who grew up loving this movie are absolutely going to be the ones who are going into the theater to see the live action.
And it also helps that it's really good.
It's sweet, it's thoughtful, it's a fun story.
The music is fantastic.
The little girl who plays Lelo is just darling, and it's a it's a fun movie, and it's a great alternative if you don't want to go see Mission Impossible, Lelo and Stitches is great and you don't have to have seen the first one obviously to you know, paste up on it.
It's just a reboot, right, I mean, there's a retailing of the state story.
Yes, it is the same story. They're just updating it a little bit. There's nothing that's like, they're not snow White level chain anything, you know, But it's the same story and it's sweet and it's fun and definitely I think worth, you know, a.
Ticket at the box office.
Mission Impossible of course comes out this is we assume the end of Tom Cruise is at least his version of Mission Impossible.
Yeah, I think that's pretty much. The understanding is that he's kind of done after this one.
You know, he's been on a.
Massive global press tour, shielding off questions about Trump tariffs and everything and saying, let's just focus on this movie. He is really dedicated to talking about this film that he's spent a long time working on.
And this film is more I want to say, lighthearted.
I don't know if that's really it's not certainly not a comedy, but there's definitely more comedic elements in this version of the Mission Impossible series than previous ones. And it's got every action pack stunt that you can imagine, things that will blow your mind. Tom Cruise is really in his element in these types of films. And one thing that's kind of funny that's happened with these two big movies opening this weekend is there's been a lot
of comparisons to Barbenheimer. Do you remember that when Barbie opened the same weekend as Oppenheimer. So people are trying to come up with the names, like, so here's once someone came up with Lelo Possible or Lissians Stitch Possible. I don't know, maybe I was drinking a little wine when I was coming up with these, but I was trying to figure out Mission Stitch se Yeah, I love that. So yeah, so these two are definitely gonna go ahead
to head of the box office. But I have a feeling Mission Impossible is going to edge out Lelo and Stitch.
This is one of those expectations that you haven't seen in the last few years, that this Memorial Day weekend could come close to, if not set the record for Memorial Day weekends.
Yeah.
Absolutely, the past few Memorial Day weekends have not done well. Do you remember they opened We've had COVID, I mean, well there's COVID, but also last year, you know, remember they opened a Mad Max reboot and it did horrible. Yeah, and now they're bringing back these big tent pole movies. They're realizing Memorial Day weekend is really sets the tone for these summer blockbusters. I think the studios are recognizing that this is what's going to motivate people to get
back into the theaters. They want these big movies, these big franchises, these big ips, and these two movies are going to set the tone I think for the rest of the summer and the big movies coming out.
The record according to Box office Mojo for Memorial Day weekend was twenty thirteen when they had Fast and Furious six and Hangover three, which is to prove sort of one of the things that we've said about Hollywood is they're out of stories. They're out of story and I mean their biggest weekend ever was a sixth version of Fast and Furious and the third version of Hangover.
Yeah.
And now we've got what is this version of Mission Impossible seven of eight eight Yeah, and then we've got Leelo and Stitch, which we already saw twenty years ago.
Right.
So Hollywood is out of ideas and they're very risk averse. They do not want to put a lot of money in something that is not a known fandom, and they're being reinforced by that because people are going to see these big movies and they're not going to see the smaller movies. Now, one big exception to that was Sinners this year. That was an original story, original script, and that did very well.
But that would I think fit and mold of we know who the producers are, right, That's a Jordan Peele movie. So some of his stuff has been incritable. Ryan Coogler for Sinners, he directed it, but I think Jordan Peele produced it, Okay. So but those I mean, those are recognizable names, and you think for some of these people, you go, I would watch anything that they did.
It's bankable, sure, I think though still they just want to know people love Ethan Hunt. They know they're going to get their money back on a Tom Cruise movie. He is the biggest movie star in the world.
And he wins in the end, and he wins at the end. Yeah, so crazy.
And we have to talk about this because I know Keana is going to be very happy about these Hunger Games. Casting news Kieran Colkin was just announced and el Fanning were announced as part of the Hunger Games Sunrise on the Reaping and this is the fans are going crazy over this casting news for these films. So this film is based on the book of the series, but it's a prequel to the Hunger Game series that we have seen before.
And Keana, I know you're excited. She's super excited.
I literally have never seen her smile so big when she came in. She was like, did you see who they cast as Effie? And that's El Fanning And that is really good casting. It's going to be a great movie. So fans are already excited for that. Those are some that's some incredible names. Jesse Plemmons, Maya Hawk, El Fanning that you mentioned, Ray Fines coming in as President Snow sort of the early President Snow.
That's incredible.
It's going to be a really highly anticipated movie, and I think people I know, I'm excited about it. I really enjoyed the first Hunger Game series and the books as well. I'm behind on reading the books now, but Keanu was like, you got to get on it, and this movie looks fantastic.
And that's at least the plan is that would be released Thanksgiving twenty six yeah, we got plenty of time.
It's so interesting to me now how early they're starting to promote the cast for these movies. They really start building the high, building the hype. You know, we're already seeing marketing now for the next Wicked movie that comes out in six months, that be prepared over the next six months to get a barrage of marketing and promos for that second part of Wicked. Studios realize they got to do the long game. When it comes to no, you don't want to You're not into Wicked? Was his face?
The face is, here's the face. It's also it's a Lelo and Stitch face.
Also.
Yeah, in all honesty, I never saw the original you my kids, hold on, relax, people, put it down.
Put the knife down.
Oh my gosh, my kids were older by the time it came out.
Well, I guess my daughter's twenty two. We're not that old. I never saw it.
Were you not a Disney like guy? Disney person for your entertainment?
Again?
Yeah, I mean I like it, get it? Yeah, it's not my go to and that's okay. We still love you. It comes to Wicked, like I saw the show, saw the show twice. Here at the Pantatus.
It's great, it's a great show. Why are you gonna drag it out for two full movies?
Because it's a huge play, like it's a huge book, huge musical. They had they couldn't tell the full story. We'd be in the theater for four hours, and nobody wants that, so that's why they split it up.
And also to make more money. I'm watched Oppenheimer. That felt like four hours.
It was four hours.
That was the longest movie ever ever. All right, so you say, Leilo and Stitch is great, Leylo and Stitch is great.
People are gonna love it. Mission Impossible also great. You cannot go wrong with Mission Stitch Possible. This weekend, Lelo Possible, whatever you want to call it. Go see both, Go see both, or go see Kendrick Lamar. He is playing in SOFI Stadium for the next two month nights as well.
I got you.
I got you covered all your entertainment options.
Thank you, Heather. You're welcome to other Brooker from KFI New This when we come back. Strain science specifically morning shower, night shower.
Which one's better? According to science.

Like I said, subscribe to it and you'll get that Gas Weekend Fix delivered straight to your inbox. The investigation continues in this plane crash down in San Diego. The police department there has confirmed that two people were killed, eight others injured. They just held a news conference just before lunchtime today. About one hundred people had to be
evacuated from that area. They have said it's the Murphy Canyon or Tierra Santa neighborhood, and if you know the area, it's right near where Santo Road and Sculpin come together, and it is just a bit southeast of the Montgomery Gibbs Executive Airport. It appears that that citation five point fifty small jet engine plane was headed into a landing at Montgomery Gibbs Executive Airport and ended up well short
of the runway. Again, all the injuries for the people on the ground where they said they were treated at an evacuation center nearby, But at this point were about a dozen buildings homes that were damaged. Several cars were burned because apparently when the plane hit the ground, the burning jet fuel spread throughout that neighborhood. Amazingly, amazingly, only eight people injured outside of what we believe were the two people on the plane who were confirmed killed.
There was also a couple of staff.
Members at the Israeli Embassy in Washington who were shot and killed last night. They were attending an event at a Jewish museum. When the gunman was arrested by security at the museum, he screamed out, free Palestine. These two young victims, yarn Leshinski and Sarah Milgram were leaving an event at the Capitol Jewish Museum when this guy's approached this group of four people that they were in and
shot them. The suspect was identified as a thirty year old out of Chicago, walked into the museum after the shooting, was eventually detained by event security. To add just a layer of absolute sadness to that story, it turned out that yarn Lishinski and Sarah Milgram we're about to get engaged, that he was going to ask her to marry him on a trip to Jerusalem. Strange says, It's like weird science, but strange.
All right, this is there's a couple smelly stories for good reason. In Our Strange science today, I asked earlier, what is your opinion? You a morning shower er a nighttime shower er because science says one is better than the other.
Hey, guy Trucker, Bill, great job. Anyways, I shower at night to wash the dirt off, sleep real nice, and then shower in the morning so I can do my hair all nice, plus watch the Night Sweat Talk and in case I have a nightmare about your Guys show. Anyways, science is always wrong.
Have a good day. Well, I haven't even told you what the science says yet.
Hey, Gary Tito here, Hey take hours. Yeah, I'm usually if I'm not working, I'll take a shower in the morning right when I'll wake up ready for my day. If I'm working on a working day, as soon as I get home from work, I take a shower, and I never take a shour at night.
I don't know why, but it's either morning or after work. All right, Well, it's because you're maybe a stink after work.
H Gary and Shannon Scott here in topanga.
Hey Scott, night shower, always night shower.
That's when i'm dirty. I'm not dirty in the morning unless I've been dirty all night. So why would you take a shower in the morning.
I work all day, I'm dirty.
I take a shower, I get clean, I get in bed, I get up in the morning, and I go. Don't have to worry about taking a shower. Okay, great question, Thanks guys, great show.
Keep it up. I don't know if it's a great question.
Hey, Gary, this is DM or beside. Hey, I'm primarily a morning shower. Three reasons. One it wakes me up. Two, your bed is not as clean as you think it is. Ree, What if you end up having sex in mother night or before you get up in the morning for work.
I'm sure people have sex. I'm sure people. Somebody does.
Yeah, gear Bear, so glad you asked a question here about showering.
Sure.
I took a twist and decided to stop showering about five years ago.
I just jump in my backyard pool. Have you soap in like ten years? It's very liberating and very organic.
Not to mention it cuts down on the cost of soap and shampoo and stuff like that. So if you take a shower in the morning, chances are you're gonna say it helps you wake up and start the But if you take a shower at night, they'll tell you you wash away the day literally in some cases, and helps you relax before you go to bed well. A microbiologist on science alert dot com says, there is a clear answer to the question of which one is better.
I'll tell you when we come back.
You're listening to Gary and Shannon on demand from KFI AM six forty.
Big story of the day, of course, that plane crash in San Diego. We will continue to bring you updates as we get them. This private jet that crashed into what turns out to be a military housing neighborhood there in San Diego during very, very foggy weather from earlier this morning. New government issued report talks about some of the most controversial views on the nation's food supply and pesticides and prescription drugs.
Robert F.
Kennedy Junior put it out from the Health and Human Services Department. It's called the Make America Healthy Again. Report, led by Kennedy and other administration officials, released today, calls for increased scrutiny of pesticides that are sprayed on American crops, talks about the nation's children is over medicated, of course, the overprocessed foods that ultra processed foods that we eat
and how it continues to make us chronically ill. So the question is are you a morning shower er or a nighttime shower er or are you somewhere in the middle.
Gary.
For those that are in perimenopause or menopause, showering at night may not work because you sweat when you sleep. So for those of us who get a little heated when we sleep, showering in the morning totally works.
Hi, Gary, night shower always.
I cannot stand dirty feet in the sheet.
Okay, kind of a trick question here, because you can do either one. Showering at night showering in the morning. They do say this microbiologist, and by the way, did look at the specifics of what is going to be more beneficial to you? Does have an answer, but that there is another factor in all of this we need to keep in mind. So just first of all, showering is an integral part of good hygiene period. When you
have it, it doesn't matter. Even the guy who doesn't shower finger quotes at least dips himself in the pool every once in a while, which is probably great. Showering can remove sweat. Sweat is not what smells. By the way, it's what eats your sweat, the bacteria that exists on your body that turns that into bo So let's just get past that.
Okay.
So during the day, your body, your hair collects everything pollutants, allergens, all that sort of stuff, sweat, sebaceous oil. Some of these will be retained by your clothes, which is why your clothes can take on an aroma of you or vice versa, inevitably transferred to your sheets and your pillowcases. Right this is where it's going to start getting gross. So the sweat and the oil for your skin will also support the growth of the bacteria that compromise your
skin microbiome. Those can be transferred from your body onto your sheets. So showering at night would remove some of that, so less if it ends up in your bed sheets.
Here's the problem.
Whether you like it or not, depending on what time of life you're in it happen more. You're gonna sweat and your bed at night. That's just whatever it is. Your skin microbes then eat the nutrients in that sweat. That means, by the way time you wake up in the morning, you're gonna have again microbes on your bed sheets and probably wake up a little bit of snank to you because those microbes are eating the sweat that you sweat, regardless of whether you're warm or not. That
would negate the cleaning benefits of a night shower. If if you don't you wash your sheets regularly, that's the key factor in all of it. If you don't wash your sheets at all, morning showering is the best because that gets rid of all that other stuff. If you don't wash your sheets regularly. If you wash your sheets regularly, do whatever you want. Showering at night doesn't stop your skin cells from shedding off into your sheets. Of course, dust mites can come. The waste of the dust mites
can be allergenic as well. That could lead to a build up of dead skin cell deposits.
In your sheets.
This is getting gross that can trigger allergies and exacerbate your asthma. Morning showers, however, they'll remove the dead skin cells as well as any sweat or bacteria you picked
up from your bed sheets overnight. Especially important if your sheets weren't freshly washed when you went to bed, so a morning shower suggests your body will be cleaner of those skin microbes that you get, you'll start the day with less sweat for the bacteria to eat on and cause the bo So basically it sounds like the morning shower would be the way to go if you're not regular at cleaning your.
Sheets, your weirdo, sick bastard, all right.
The other story is, because it is a smelly story, the spray of perfume, maybe a little swipe of lotion could mess with some of the highly reactive chemicals that cloud your body, and that could lead to unknown health effects. A chemical shield is known as the human oxidation field, like a force field. Scientists think it reacts quickly with the molecules that surround us. It can neutralize some volatile compounds.
But if you put perfume on that, or lotion with perfume in it, it can transform the air chemistry in the immediate vicinity, and that can potentially send some toxic chemical byproducts up our noses, sinking into our skin. Not great. They're still studying a lot of the human oxidation field
and how it impacts our health. It's only discovered a few years ago because the team of scientists found that oil from the skin reacts with the ozone pollutants in the air to form a field of actual hydroxyl radicals hydroxyl radicals around your body. There you go tomorrow. Shannon's back tomorrow because we're doing our news and brews. We're
