Transcript

This is Gary and Shannon and you're listening to kf I AM six forty, the Gary and Shannon Show on demand on the iHeartRadio app. Gary, I'm so sorry. We really need to set up a gofund me poor Shannon, and not send her money but espresso copy because she is at her funniest when she is higher than a kite on four shots of espresso coffy beans. Poor Gary. Hang in there, Gary, we love you. You're off it. Yeah, you're off it, she said. Dang, Shannon woke up

and chose violence this morning, girl. Fifty more days, fifty more days until kickof I know, and there you can take all your aggression out on the side it. Yes, I love you, love you back. I have the countdown in my head as well. Is that what's going on? There's definitely some unspent energy that we're dealing with, so it's throwing espress so when it doesn't help, it's funny. We how we keep track of time, right? I always say, and I know your husband feels this way

too, because we've talked about it. At the end of the Super Bowl. We always go, oh, look, nine days until pictures and catchers report or whatever. Yes, the end of the last out of the World Series, will say, oh, look, one hundred and nineteen days until pictures and catchers report, is there a Is there a like All Star break? You think football's right around the corner because they've got to I mean,

don't they have a game this month? If I was paying attention to baseball, yes, but I didn't even know last night was the All Star game show. Hey, Otani had a three run home run for the next I finished watching Receiver on Netflix. Crushed the ball. He does what he does, It's incredible. It was I mean, his stance, he knew it. Everybody in the stadium knew it as soon as he hit it. I

have I just I wonder what that feels like. I took three videos of him striking out when we went to have video of him on my phone, because you just never know when something special is gonna happen. Iran is denying our accusations that it was plotting to kill former President Trump. Yeah, their official statement said this what me CNN said. Trump had his security boosted weeks ago after authorities here received intelligence about an alleged Iranian plot against him. Iranian

says, what'd they say again what me called them unsubstantiated, malicious. A Foreign Ministry spokesman says iron strongly rejects any involvement in the recent armed attack against Trump. Do you see this video of a cow on the top of a sloped roof, Well, that's so great, my goodness. If the cow can do it, so can the Secret Service. And if I'm the Secret

Service. If I'm a member of the Secret Service, and I hear my boss say that, I am embarrassed, I don't want to go to a hot dog party tonight, right because I feel like I'm too wimpy to get on a sloped roof. Somebody in good natured ribbing would come out to you and meet you at the driveway and escort you in on the off chance. Yet, I know, listen, and even if you can handle a slope driveway, there's three steps on the ad, I don't know if you can

see the front door through that tree. And again, this is not us making fun of the Secret Service. Those men and women put their lives on the line. It's whatever management, whatever management decisions went into what happened on Saturday, awful, awful. There is discussion about a detonator that was reportedly found near the shooter's body also, and the explosive materials is as descriptive as I've seen it that were found in a van that they believe that he had

been driving. So they don't know if that was going to be part of a distraction, a defense mechanism, if it was just going to be an attention getter something like that. And then we also heard from the sheriff in Butler County apparently who knows the law enforcement officer who saw the shooter on the

roof. Remember this story out about two officers who were responding to the spectators basically who were reporting that somebody had climbed up onto the roof with a rifle and then one of the two officers was able to lift himself up or be lifted up by the other officer and kind of grabbed the edge of the roof and that's when the gunman supposedly swung the rifle at him and then went back seconds later when the shooting started. And there are questions about what responsibility that

officer has. Is he just supposed to sit there and literally draw fire from almost no range at all to bring attention to the fact that a gunshot would have gone off, and that probably would have prompted the Secret Service to get the president off the stage. What human being, regardless of their training, would sit there and allow somebody to shoot them in the head for the greater good. I don't know. There's just no human instinct. What it would

prompt you to fall back like he did. Bill Gage is a consultant at safe Haven Security Group. He's also a former Secret Service agent. He says it is clear that the shooter did an advance run of the target before the event. Now, he scouted that rally site. He said, Oswald did it, Hinckley did it. They all scouted before. He purchased Ammo hours before the rally. He bought a ladder at home depot as well. Okay, let's talk about the ladder, because I feel like the ladder thing is

being we need to know there. I have seen pictures of two different sides of the building. One of them appears to be kind of a fixed maintenance kind of ladder that's built onto a side of a building, and the other one is an actual ladder that somebody put up on the side. But that's after the shooting, and I want to talk to new says it's confirmed he bought a ladder. Well, he bought a ladder. Bought a ladder in This guy, the security expert, says, he knew that there were elevated

positions. He knew that there would be buildings off in the distance that he needed a ladder to access. Whether or not he used it, I don't know, but it's neither here nor there. It's really not important to the story. The discussion today has been centered around the tactical team that was using that building, that AGR building as a staging area, and that is perfectly understandable, acceptable, and anybody looking at that scene would have said, that's

one place that you need to have officers. But if they were staged inside the building at the time of the event, that is such a weirdly lackadaisical way. Why is the patrol that area? Why would anybody be assigned inside that building for what reason? Unless they were operating the drone that was circling around overhead to make sure there was no security threat, unless they were doing some sort of surveillance with equipment in there looking at different angles of the event.

Other than that, what the hell use are you to be inside at an event like a rally, and it looks like a simple metal shed, I mean constructed. It's not like it's going to have a lot of insulation in it necessarily. So those officers that were inside the building, I would assume, heard eight shots from an ar fifteen to ten feet above their heads. I just realized I stole this water from the kitchen. I didn't pay for it. Do we mean to call somebody like, is there a way

to detox you off of four shots of espresso? Because I feel like this is going to be a problem. I'm now in a life of Yeah, there's cameras in there. I know I gotta go back and pay for it. Boy, I was going to talk about just a quick note local, not even locally, but California wise. A mayor that we've talked about many times, the former mayor of Stockton, Michael Tubbs. Young guy. He

started the pilot program, the universal Basic Income program there. He has announced that he is running for Lieutenant governor Okay to replace the lady Kuna Loakas who is running for governor. Of course, now he's a champion for that UBI, that universal Basic income and initiatives like it. They consider him a rising star in the Democratic Party. He is currently serving as a special advisor to Gavin Newsom for economic mobility that means and he announced his campaign early today.

We should come up with fake names, fake titles for what we do here. Special advisor for yapping, special advisor not too that's not bureaucratic enough. We'll have to work. I don't think we're advisors. I think we're more like we're open. You ever hit Okay, I have to ask you this. It's just you and me here ready? Yeah? You ever hid a purchase from your husband? Yes? Are you kidding? Oh? I'm sorry? Is it Wednesday? Yes? Did you buy something for Amazon Prime Day

and not tell him? Do I try to get home early and hide things? Yes? Like packages to come up? Well, you know, I I don't go places anymore to shop. I'm not that I'm a big shopper. I'm not, never have been, but I certainly don't like go to like a mall or anything and buy a bunch of stuff on a given day. So I like, I'll buy stuff from time to time, and then I feel like I'm, you know, unnecessarily buying things, right, I feel the guilt. The guilt. There is a story that suggests that stealth

shopping is what they call it, keeping it from your partner. Everyone does this one of my high Oh yeah, I have a girl, you know Katie. Sure, she hides things like nobody's business. She has the nanny hide stuff. I guess. I don't know if my wife hides stuff like she'll buy toys for her son and then hide the purchases. Because what happens there is a conversation that the baby has too many toys. Oh okay,

stuff like that. Yeah, it's a hole to do. Well if you if you keep stuff from your spouse, we'd love to know about it. You can send us a message on the talkback feature on the iHeart as. I did get my husband a birthday gift for him on Amazon Prime because it's Prime Day. Today's the last day of Prime Day. Can we talk about Prime Day for a second. Yeah? Is there any more manufactured holiday than Amazon Prime Day? They're all manufactured? What the hell do you think Valentine's

Day is? Well, that's that's my crap. But this is a perfect hot they it came out of nothing. It it came out of knowing cards for Prime There was a Saint Valentine. I mean, there's no Saint Bezos and why we celebrate him on July sixth, I don't guess. We celebrate consumerism and good deals a la America. What is it stuff you need? No, it's never things you need. Gavin Newsom is being hit with a lawsuit over the story we reported to you yesterday the state's new gender identity law.

He signed that law Monday, banning schools from notifying parents if their child asks to change their name or pronouns. The Chino Valley Unified School District claims parents have a right to know and is the first to file a lawsuit to Chino Valley Unified. If my kid was caught having sex with another person of some gender I don't know about, I would be notified, wouldn't I I don't know. If my kid was that's part of the problem in the bathroom,

I would be noticed. You're giving a parental power to teachers over your children. I mean, like, what if you have a nutcase teacher. We've all had one. I love teachers. We have families of teachers. Yeah, they don't get paid enough in my opinion, however, we've all had one nutbag teacher along the way somewhere, if she was making decisions for my kid, burn it. Oh mind at all the goodness. That's the

thing I don't quite understand. And listen, I know a lot's been said lately about Elon Musk and his decision to take SpaceX out of California and saying that this was the last straw. I mean that, I don't know why this would be the other There seems like there'd be a million other things for a business to make a decision on to leave California. But the arrogance with

which this was passed is what I think bothers me the most. It doesn't surprise me knowing who was who has been behind this, but the idea that a school or a district or a politician or I mean, anybody outside of the parent has a bigger role in that child's life than the parent has just a narcissism. I mean, well, I'm shocked that he did this because he has been a shadow campaign for president. He's been busy with that for

months now, and he's moved more moderate with things. This takes him and throws him far to the left, as left as you can get in terms of the progressive platform. I have a quick sports story, actually a good one. Cavin Sullivan. Cavin has been named on the Philadelphia Unions squad for tonight's Major League Soccer game against the New England Revolution. If Cavin gets in the game, he will be the youngest player in Major League Soccer history.

How old do you think Calvin Sullivan is to be the youngest player in MLS history? Seventeen fourteen years and two and ninety three days. Wow, fourteen years. He would break the record held by Freddie Aidou, who was fourteen years old when he played. Oh yeah, Freddie Adu, Do you remember that from twenty years ago? Of course I do. Being a big deal fourteen year old kid playing a professional sport. He was just like Messi because he could wouldn't clean his room, Lionel, Oh you, it's not your

sport. President Biden is said to be considering endorsing some major reforms at the Supreme Court. This would be the first sitting president in generations to back changes to the way the court operates. Chief among these changes that he's thinking about, or at least looking at, would be term limits for nine Supreme Court justices, which are they are currently serving for lifetime, or until they decide

not to. The President is said to be preparing to throw support behind an ethics code for the Court that would contain an enforcement mechanism which right now is absent from the Court of the code that the Court adopted last year. Bless your heart. You'd need Congress to do this, and you're going to lose

Congress if you continue to stay in the race. Very very true. He's looking at whether he should push for a constitutional amendment that would reverse the ruling from the Court earlier this month that gave president's immunity for some actions while they take office. The problem with amendments is they take a long time. Not that I would disagree with it. I actually think that would be a perfectly fine constitutional amendment, but in terms of endorsing one and then getting an amendment

passed is very Come on, man, come what's with you guys? Anyway? What's with you guys? Come on man? Anyway? His name was Mouse? Did you see this? No? Who you didn't see that clip? I'll pull it up. Did he say something about mouse? He did? This weird situation at the NAACP. I forget what the event was specifically with you guys, come on, man, But I guess the convention of some kind. He also did an interview with B. E. T last night. No, I don't want to hear that it's going to be embarrassing.

Well, I have a little bit of it. Okay, Well, he just he has a new criteria by which he would step down at the top of the ticket. Okay, if you remember, one of them was if the Lord Almighty told me to stop. The second one was if I thought I would lose, which he doesn't. He still doesn't think he would lose. And then the third one was if he doesn't feel well, if there's some medical condition in emergency, somebody doctors came to me, said you

got this problem, that problem. But I made a serious mistake in the whole debate. So if the doctors tell him, or if the doctors are told by the Lord Almighty that he's going to lose, maybe the three, maybe all three. Does somebody in the family go to him when he's sleeping and say something like, Joe, it's me the Lord Almighty, get out. No, who in the family wants him to not run? Well, Jill is drunk on power by all the people around her. According to sources,

Hunter's not going to tell him not to run. Hunter, I'm not going to touch it. Addiction is an ugly thing. Gary and Shannon k I am six forty Live Everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. I was listening to a radio show this morning that is at the convention, and they were talking about how tiring it is. They said, can't explain it, but it's

really tiring. And I was remembering us at the convention eight years ago, and I just remember it being first whatever reason, I don't know if it's all though, the extra walking and going through Secure and the leaving early and to get there and transportation and all of the secure to everything, and then doing the show and trying to get guests and everything. It really is like

at the end of the day, you are dog tired well. And I don't remember there being a lot of downtime even now, even the times if we would go back to UH to our hotel rooms, there was not a lot of time where you just were because you'd always want to watch what was going on, or read what was going on, or talk to people about what was going on. There was never downtime. I mean, it felt like they were back to back too, where they oh they were right eight

years ago? Yeah, yeah, because I remember they lost our luggage, that's right. They were just going to go straight to Philly or whatever for flea flight was so late in Cleveland. Husband was like, you guys have to come home just to sleep in your bed for one night. You guys

have to come home. And he was so right about that. But I remember on like a Wednesday in Philly and I was just I got into that the card table we were set up in the lobby of that convention center, and I remember looking at you being like I and you were like, it's okay, calm down. Gas tank was empty. Gas tank was empty, and you put on like Justin Bieber or something through our headsets, and I was like, okay, all right, we got a couple more days.

Choose, I don't know, but it was very calming. But yeah, that was crazy. Yeah, that was crazy, going back to back like that. And it was also the trauma of staying in the Dead Hooker hotel in Cleveland, or not even in Cleveland. Well that I had we done it the other way around. We stayed in the Dead Hooker. You were so poor. We couldn't even stay in Cleveland proper. But then we stayed in a nicer hotel in Cherry Hill, New Jersey's actually right across the river

from Phillies, which was better. Could you imagine if it was reversed, That's what I mean, it would have been, oh my god, awful. And one of my favorite moments is when we were at the Dead Hooker Hotel and they had this like tiny breakfast room where they had stale bread and like little cups of like yogurt off brand Cereal fake egg omelet in the morning.

So we're sitting there and we're watching the twelve inch television that's in there, which was one of those cube TVs back of our childhood crt with the rabbit ears, and we're watching the local news there, just looking down at this piece of stale bread and being like what are we doing here? And Ray Lopez is on the TV. It's on the TV, and we're like, what the hell is Ray doing on the local news with this s eating grin on his face because the airline gave him one thousand dollars or something for

booting him off his flight. Yeah, because Southwest had a massive computer air and that was one of the main areas was the Cleveland Airport and then Ray Lopez. By the time we got to the airport, he was he had been there for hours using the company credit card to eat and drink and have himself a great day at the airport. And we sat for lunch. I mean our lunch was probably three and a half hours. It was a long

time because everything was delayed. Everything was delayed, and we know our plane kept getting pushed back and farther and farther, and he just would say, hey, rum and coke and just keep him coming. And he went through about sixteen And I am not exactger. They lost money on Ray that day. They've lost money. I mean, think about how much a cocktail at an airport costs. Anyway, do you remember how much our bill was for

that. I think we like split a sandwich or something and maybe had a couple of drinks or something, and that the bill is like five hundred dollars or something. It's a lot of jack and coke or rum and coke. I don't remember what it was. One of the big stories so far. We'll dip into it a bit when we get into swamp Watch here at the top of the hour is that Congressman Adam Schiff, who is running for Senate, is now, I would say, the highest profile Democrat calling for President

Biden to drop out of the race. He sent an exclusive, he said statement to the La Times and said that he has serious concerns about whether Biden could beat Trump in November. Well, and that's the narrative that they're going with now, not that Biden is too old or what have you, but that a second Trump presidency, using his words, will undermine the very foundation of our democracy, the fight for the democracy. Let's pick someone who can

beat Trump. The problem with that is who could ever beat Trump right now with the momentum he has right now? And I know it's early, it's July mid July. The Democrats haven't had their rallying party yet. But right now, on after this attempted assassination, he is a train full speed ahead. There's no one that's going to stop him unless it's, like I said, like a Oprah or I don't even know if Michelle Obama could do it.

Maybe what's a celebrity. So they have some internal polling that actually says that there are a couple of names that do poll better than Joe Biden but not Trump but not yes, but not necessarily that they would win. They're closer than Biden would be, but they're not more. In fact, we can go through some of that when we get into Swampwatsch. I also wanted to play for you. We mentioned it earlier, but we didn't get to

the audio. Lara Trump, who is a co chair of the Republican National Committee now obviously the daughter in law of former President Trump, and her job last night. The bridges that had been burned between Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley and Trump, they were rebuilt, or at least there was an attempt at

rebuilding that in order to show unity within the party. But Laura Trump had the job of trying to humanize this guy, and we'll play for you part of what she said in terms of her big what she's doing, Well, you're typing. I was gonna say that was aggressive typing. Oh no, what would I be typing? I have no idea that could I possibly be corresponding? Do go goog looking something up. I'm doing something important. You've

been listening to the Gary and Shannon Show. You can always hear us live on KFI AM six forty nine am to one pm every Monday through Friday, and anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio LAP
