This is Gary and Shannon and you're listening to k if I am six forty the Gary and Shannon Show on demand on the iHeartRadio app. It's time for swamp watching. This swamp is horrible. The government doesn't work. Man, we're gonna make this like a reality TV show. Was a bad Noos, always a pleasure to be anywhere from Washington, d C. Hey, Joe a town hall who clearly built on a swamp and in so many ways still a swamp. I have to watching Milwaukee, boy said, dreamed the swamp.
I said, Oh, that's so hope, keepsh You know the thing, well, DC is the center of the universe in many ways because of what's going on with Bob Menindez, because of the Democratic turtmoil within the party with Joe Biden at the top of the ticket, and then what Republicans are doing. They happen to be in Milwaukee. But let's talk with Brett Samuels, who is a White House reporter, about what's going on in this in this crazy, crazy time that we find ourselves. Brett was going on,
hey, guys, how are you good. Let's start with if you don't mind some fallout perhaps there in d C, or at least the beltwagh about what's going on with Bob Menendez convicted just a short time ago bribery foreign agent
charges all sixteen counts he faced. He's been found guilty on Yeah, and after that happened, the floodgates have sort of opened, I think just in the short time since that verdict came down, we've already seen a handful of Democrats, including sent Majority leader Chuck Schumer, have called for him to resign. Corey Booker, his fellow New Jersey senator, has done so, and we're going to continue to see I think statements like that trickle out in the
next few hours here. So some Democrats need to be kind of holding their fire waiting for this trial to play out. But now that he's been found guilty, it seems like everyone has a green light to go ahead and call on him to resign at this point. Quick question about what goes on in DC. If Republicans are concentrating on Milwaukee this week because of the convention, President Biden is actually in Vegas. He's closer here than he is to d C. It's not that the place shuts down, but where where do we
stand? Is the temperature lowered a little bit when you've got main players like that that are elsewhere. Yeah, certainly, you know, d C. I would say it's fair to say a week like this is, you know, to take a point off what you guys are saying earlier. It's not quite the center of the universe anymore. You know. Certainly President Biden, as you said, he's out in Las Vegas campaigning former President Trump, and really the entire Republican Party are in Milwaukee for the week talking about, you
know, their visions for another term should Trump be re elected. So I would say far more eyes are on Milwaukee than are on Washington, d C. At this point. And then you know, pretty much the entire Republican Party and all those lawmakers are are in Wisconsin as well well. All eyes were certainly on President Biden in the days that led up to what happened on Saturday after that disastrous debate. Has the temperature gone down when it comes to
calls to replace Biden on Capitol Hill? Is there a feeling of it would be all for nought at this point because Trump just seems to be a freight train rolling down the win in November track, Yeah, it's a good question. I think what's happened since what we saw on Saturday with that horrific shooting at the Trump rally is those calls for President Biden to step aside have sort
of receded into the background. I think it's definitely fair to say we haven't had lawmakers publicly kind of calling for Biden to step aside, publicly wringing their hands about his chances in November, but those conversations from where I've heard from
Democrats are still going on behind the scenes. And the latest is that there's some frustration among Democrats that the Democratic National Committee might try to nominate Biden virtually before the end of the month, essentially clinching the nomination for him, and I think that could backfire, that could create some frustration among Democrats who still
kind of want to have this conversation about whether he's the best candidate. So certainly, you know, I think, as you said, the temperatures are sort of cool, people aren't aren't quite as publicly and viscerally discussing this,
but those those conversations are still happening behind closed doors. Brett Samuel's works for The Hill covers the White House and I think, if I'm not mistaken, I think we talked about this before, Gary, that there's a rule in Ohio I want to say about nominating or have there's like a deadline where they have to have them name the nominees to get on the ballot in Ohio. And I don't remember what the deadline is, but I think it is within a matter of days, if not, maybe maybe a couple of weeks.
Yeah, Brett, they've had to kind of alter their plans because of the the later start, you know, the mid August start for the Democratic National Convention, right, Yeah, So what happened there, it's interesting is, as you guys said, you know, the deadline in Ohio was initially in July, so it was going to be about a month before this late convention.
So that's why they're going to nominate him. Virtually. What happened was Governor Mike DeWine in Ohio actually signed sort of a fix to this to extend the deadline back into August. So really it would be fine if they nominated him at the convention. Now there'd be no issue getting Biden on the ballot
in Ohio. Democrats that had already made these plans to nominate him virtually, and it sounds like they're going to go ahead and do that this month, despite sort of the consternation among some of the party about whether Biden's the right guy in November. Yeah, that brings up a question based on the attempt at assassination on Saturday. I don't know if that talk exists anymore about replacing Biden at the top of the ticket. Is it just that's just going to
fade into the background. Maybe, Yeah. I think, you know, people still have those concerns, certainly about whether Biden can actually beat Trump. But given what happens Saturday, you know, nobody wants to be out here calling for for for Biden to step aside. Nobody wants to publicly be saying, you know, that he's not up to the job. So it certainly shifted the calculation. And Biden himself has kind of helped shift that calculation because
he's been out there since what happened on Saturday. He's you know, he's given multiple speeches. He gave that Oval Office primetime address that we saw on Sunday, he did an interview with NBC. He's out in Nevada, as you guys mentioned, so he's really putting himself out there, and Biden has made clear that he's not going anywhere. So for Democrats to kind of keep up this public fight, it just seems like sort of a pointless exercise.
It will only hurt them over the next few months. Brett Samuels, thank you so much for your time. Appreciate it, and go Orange. Thank you, Go Orange. Brett Samuel's White House reporter for The Hill dot Com. Multiple people briefed on the matter. I've told CNN that US authorities obtained intelligence in recent weeks on a plot by Iran to try to assassinate Donald Trump. They said that was a development that led to the Secret Service increasing security
around the former president in recent weeks. There's no indication the shooter who attempted to kill Trump was connected to the Iranian plot. I already was a Chinese national. I did too. New questions now about the security lapses on Saturday. If there was the existence of the intelligence threat from a hostile foreign intelligence agency and enhance security for Trump, how the hell did that twenty year old kid get so close within range and with a bullet that close to the former
president, and that he was there for that long. Yeah. Again, The report out of Pittsburgh, a television station in Pittsburgh, is that local police in charge of that specific area, because it was outside of the fairgrounds,
were inside the building. They were inside the building because it was being used as a staging area for them, and that they have at least two pictures of the guy taken by officers who already thought he was suspicious a half an hour before the shooting, not eighty six or eighty four second half an hour before the shooting. So today, sorry, not today, would have been yesterday. Yesterday, former President Trump got on the phone with RFK Junior
and was talking about unity. In fact, Kennedy tweeted out yesterday he said a lot of rumors going around about my meeting this morning with the President Trump. Our main topic was national unity, and I hope to meet with Democratic leaders about that as well, and then he wrote, no, I am not dropping out of the race. A short time after that, the video
of the phone call leaked. It's weird to say it that way, but he was doing he was being interviewed, and there was a videographer in the room when Trump called Kennedy's phone, and Kennedy picked it up, put it on speakerphone, and was walking around the room talking with former President Trump. Had something strong with Steh. I said, I want to do school. He's talking about vaccines, and that's kind of the conversation. At least about
ninety seconds of it that was that ended up being posted online. Kennedy then went to Twitter this morning and said, when President Trump called me, I was taping with an in house videographer. I should have ordered the videographer to stop recording immediately. I am mortified that this was posted. I apologize to the president. This is what he wrote, so and I don't remember. I saw in one place that it may have been Kennedy's son who posted it.
I don't know why he would have. It seems like a cordial conversation between two people who are rivals. It's not a bad thing. Okay, the vaccine stuff, sure, whatever, you want to die on that hill, die on that hill. But that's not the It was just people trying to have a friendly conversation. Last night Republican National Convention Day one. Some of the speeches that we saw from play people like Glenn Youngkin and Amber Rose.
They were a handful of just normal people too. I don't know how they get chosen to make these speeches, but four or five minute speeches about what they saw as prosperity during the first Trump administration and then compared to what we've seen in the Biden administration, saying that you know, groceries are more expensive, they're having a hard time caring for their families, and that sort
of thing because the increased costs that come with the inflation. That was really the first day highlighted by the appearance of former President Trump in arguably the most
theatrical way possible. I mean, like you said, the tunnel camera very very I don't even it was very to me, yes, very very NFL very wwe yes, just in the showmanship and then the emotion which appeared to be genuine, the emotion the there was one guy that there were two moments that I saw highlighted of former President Trump where he's sitting, he's entered the
arena, the place goes nuts. I mean everybody was talking about the people who were in the arena at the time saying they've never felt electricity like that in a political event. I mean, yes, people get excited, yeah, but the appliance of a guy who two days ago was the subject of an assassination. To see you say you were there? Ye were at his first appearance following that. Let me ask you this. Jd Vance was a never Trump guy. Nikki Haley a never Trump person. They have both now
obviously taken up his side. You know, you had the Teamsters there the first time that they've shown up at an RNC convention, usually stronghold for the
Democrats. Does this way voters who were on the fence? I mentioned yesterday that I had at least three people that I know on social media who are not vocal when it comes to politics, and certainly not vocal when it came to supporting Donald Trump, but were out and about with their posts yesterday saying, you know, not even quietly, not even in their house, to their spouses, saying you know, I'm gonna vote for Trump, but they
were publicizing it. How far does this move the needle with people who were never Trump To see Nicky Haley or jd Vance is more in line with Trump right in the make America Great movement. But to have Nicki Haley come out there tonight, I don't know if it. I don't know if it affects the never Trump people. I think it affects the people who are like never
Trump Republican. I should say I don't think it does much. I don't think it does much, But I would say that the independent voter who at times was just resigned to two guys I don't want to choose from, and I'm gonna have to hold my nose and vote for one of them. I think those are the ones that we've seen react in the way that you're talking about. Well, I'm okay now voting for this guy because he does. They may look at what they saw Saturday and say, I perceive that as
strength. I perceive that was a monster move for him to come out and pump his fist, and that's the kind of guy I want representing the United States on the world stage. Maybe I don't know. Other people think still are convinced that it was completely fake and that that bandage on aziriait last night was a little too big. I mean, well, I'm in that camp that it was a little too big. You saw what happened with MSNBC.
They pulled off that show with jo Yeah and Mika. I think they were afraid what they were going to say, like, I've had conversation around here about how I've got a lot of questions about what went down, and it's like, let's just pump the brakes on the conspiracy theories a little bit. You know. I think that MSNBC, or I should say NBC, was terrified that they would go on the air and say baselessly this is a total
hoax. But this morning when Joe Scarborough got on the air and addressed that, he didn't even look at himself and go, maybe we have dabbled in things that shouldn't be talked about, or maybe we have been part of the problem. But I think it was the way they lied to him and kind of obviously sated. He was right, what we are doing? Food stuff we could want to you're hungry? No, I had my carrots, I
had my apple. Oh okay, now we eat like horses. I didn't realize that Tuesday was horse Day. Most of gen Z uses TikTok to seek out health advice. Fifty six percent of gen Z he looks on TikTok for wellness, diet and fitness advice. Over a third say they use the app is their main form of health advice. Health fourteen percent they get health advice from friends, thirteen percent from Google, eleven percent from qualified doctors or trainers.
And that's considered go Google. That is considered health. Yeah. Well, I think a lot of people get their health advice from us. That's also awful. That's an awful place to get health. That was a joke. That was just a little joking joke for us. We did talk about this story. Well, we've talked before a lot of times about these smaglatides. The GLP one inhibitors. Is that what they're called, the wigovi's. What are the other ones? The wigov the ozempic. Zep bound is another
one. You're you're doing the ozempic right, I'm doing the ozep bound. Gov God, I'm doing a combo of all three. But I'm also not doing the injections. I'm snorting. Oh yeah, wow, way to get it in your bloodstrain. It's a it's a trial basis, all right, I see. Are you heating it up first like a heroine like a hot rail? No? Oh no, don't be ridiculous. I'm snorted cold right
like everybody does. Yes, cold. So there is a new frontier to get these weight loss drugs, and it is through your ailment of sleep apnea. Yeah, damon Sedgwick. For example, tech business analysts in Sydney, Australia enrolled in a clinical trial a couple of years ago to test whether taking zepbound would alleviate alleviate the sneap Try it again, you see it's starting to affect me. Are you singing the national anthem tonight? The anti OBCD drug
zetbound would alleviate the sleep apnea that had plagued his nights for years. So the thesis is, the idea is that the weight loss from the drug would help open the airways of this guy and other people too. It is true, but I think you should have to go through other avenues first, right, Well, just because there's so much that goes on mentally with overeating or over drinking or drugs or what have you. It's not just that you're extra
hungry, is it. I mean some people, yes, g genically predisposed and all of that. Sure, and there are plenty of people who have tried stuff that doesn't work or it's hard to maintain, and the idea of being on one of these things for a long time is less daunting to them than trying to, you know, go about the whatever weird diet or you know, crazy plan that they had before that was unsuccessful for them for whatever
reason. Now in this case, obviously it makes sense. You're going to lose a lot of weight, you're gonna cure your sleep apnea most of the time, and however that weight comes off is good generally. But again the idea of we don't know what the long term effects of something like this would be. They're betting the drug companies, by the way, Eli, Lilly, Novo Nordisk, they are betting that insurers that have been resistant to cover
this weight loss treatment will be inclined to reimburse for other uses. We've talked about the different ways that it has been able. These drugs have been able to help cure a lot of things that simply are related to weight, and once you're able to reduce that weight, some of those other conditions that you may suffer from can kind of just go away. So one other suggestion, although not smart, is to try gas station heroin as a way to lose
weight. These pills are right next to the Boner Boner x x X pills. You should also steer clear from they're calling it gas station heroin. Gas station heroin. It's tyane nepteine and other compounds names like neptunes, fix zaza, and tiana. They said. Poison control centers are reporting a dramatic case, dramatic spike in cases that involve tyaneptine, a drug that the FDA has not approved, but you can find in these gas stations, and it's also
available to buy online. Growing number of states have already banned this drug, most recently Florida was the latest, but millions of people in Europe, Asia South America had used tyaneptine, despite the fact that for years no one is exactly sure what it does or how or how it works. But it's addictive. It's like high on opioids. They say. A Reddit form for people trying to quit the drug, many of them called Tia, has grown to
some fifty five hundred members. They describe taking full grams of the drug each day, in some cases more than one hundred times the manufacturers recommended daily dose. Who is listen? We have a lot of truck drivers that have that listened to the show on a regular basis, and we appreciate them all. What crosses your mind when you say to the person at the gas station, Uh, yeah, give me a bottle of boner, boner boners xx, give me a bottle of xxx. And while you're at it, throwing a
bottle of zaza. Well, they're right there on the counter, so you can just slide them in there with your with your corn nuts and your mountain dew. But it's not truck drivers. I mean, it's just they have it at truck stops and things. It may be some truck driver, but not our truck drivers. Our truck drivers don't need boner bon or boner xxx. I would hope boner boner boner, you know what I mean. They've they've they've got more things going on. Doog Google, stop at you guys.
You're annoying me with myself from XXXIT. Do you want to as a X How about your Jeopardy question? Well, I was just going to mention that from twenty to From twenty seven to twenty seventeen, the National Poison Data System reported eighty two percent of ty in epteene calls involved men. About fifty seven percent of the calls involved men between the ages of twenty one and forty, So that I don't know if that's prime truck driving time, but it's
don't go google. It's worth a google. I'm I dare you guys? Now, Gray's anatomy for six hundred dollars. The rooman, the omissum, and the reticulum are parts of this organ for a cow? Can I see? And not trust? You don't trust my pronunciation. You don't think I'm a doctor, a large animal veterinarian. I do not. Don't go google. The rooman, the omasm, and the reticulum are parts of the cow's stomach. How do you know that? Oh? You bought a cow?
Huhart of a cow? Did you get the stomach bits? Did you get the rooms? Did not get the room? You're messing out the room and I hear is delicious? How many?
