Okay, me by Ian Aggron to Gwel Weekly on Toktan Shahogan. That was always planned. Shannon Plan of Yam Igoni from the start of the year or since the start of the year, oh who's no blina. I'm taking the first week off every second month from the show so I can bulk record on Skamuilma a lawn ruddy a half in the middle.
a lot of things that are gonna be going out on Patreon and learnersalline dot com and for learner members lahuel L I O and also one or two things that are be gonna be coming out for free on the Guelga Weekly Feed Rodno Co of I Chakhtamak Siranashka air on feed guelga weekly. Okay, so no new episodes of GW next week. We're back then on the twelfth of march, as always by Majrash, Er on Daralogeg, Mimorta, Mar is Gono.
¶ The Challenge of Solo Podcasting
Sometimes with podcast Orn Talesh and Bodhela, it's a bit difficult for me to shapelin Zakardumsa to think about okay, what am I actually gonna speak about this week? King Rod may hung lawchui on socked and suh. You know, it's uh it's a great job and I'm very privileged to be able to do podcasting as the main part of my full time job. It's more a privilege a hun put credit or unpread emotion.
It is tricky sometimes in the sense of half an hour is a long time to fill La Or Shinam Foda Lelinu and to talk about different topics after 130 episodes three shots. K the struck aggron aren't the beans epicni taker on toxus less winchy. You know, a lot of the weeks that the story or whatever I'm gonna speak about kind of speaks itself or writes itself as we would say. Aren't the beans an iska on topic oal. I guess ni ving arm topic around you I don't have to choose a topic per se.
But it's more so something happens over the weekends, and it makes me think, oh, I'll see you next time. about this or maybe if it's the start of summer I'll speak about summer and my plans for the summer. Must her who sanit la rome foin foin saurogs the planana
Mm most weeks it's kind of fine. But yesterday I'm recording this on Tuesday, but I normally record the other versions of the podcast on Monday that might half of the in y' eran more chill na bin make zinu on da laganella jinfotkrella erunloon and that's what I did yesterday shin coderinome in yeah And I was finding it tough in the morning to think about okay, what am I actually gonna speak about? King Rod O will may hunt lauerchwing.
And so often what I'll do is I'll go out for a walk on the Monday morning, rock me a mock or shoulods, or mods in saloon and I need to be thinking about different things in my head that I can talk about by me Larch Fu Rudy Exul Lumheen Ruddy Garphadra Lum Larchfuhu or what I might do and what I did yesterday Rod Yanhin August Rod Runime in Yan.
¶ Inspiration from Tommy Tiernan's Podcast
is I'll put on a podcast or something that I kinda find inspiring or something that I can relate to or they can batter or hug and insproge no spraguum something that gives me kind of inspiration or motivation. So yesterday I was listening to one of my favourite podcasts. Fimegashtucle hion to put crail the Isfarlum and that's the Tommy Tiernan podcast, otherwise known as Private Investigation.
Soin on Polkarla Latamiturn versing Gleita Privacy Investigations Air I think he changed the name at one point say on Tanum equincha one. For me, that podcast is the gold standard of solo podcasting in terms of what I like and almost in a way what I'm trying to do with Goelgo Weekly. Dumps that shinmar on ordinan kaijon furfa moder less solo podcasting put cradle the aner.
And that's kind of what I'm trying to do, Shininrod Sice will make Zenuirk a Yeno Lesham Bodkar Shaw. Now anybody who's listened to private investigations and I'd highly recommend it, gun knows Woolhin Gumore. I would Definitely say it's it's not exactly what I'm trying to do with Guelga Weekly, far from us. Neil Sheer.
Igdenu Leguel Weekly, no Wilma Igiri, Iano Leguelgo Weekly. It's a lot more abstract as Tommy Tierney can be with a lot of stuff. Maravine, Tommy Tiernan and Lelon, Ruddy speaking about one thing one minute and then gone off to something completely different. Egglarge Rudowan, Nomi the one, Agasan Shin, Eggdol, Gurodegan, Go Hom Lanche Freel. And speaking about things that k can get a bit crazy and wild sometimes.
¶ Embracing Honesty and Authenticity
Orantha, um which is part of the reason I like the sh and that's not what I'm trying to do with Quelly Weekly when I say there are Jerem It's it's kind of what I'm aiming for. It's not to make a copy or an Irish version of private investigations, you make your lag and gwelga, you know, to private investigations. But I'm trying to
I guess achieve what what he's doing in terms of how honest he's being and the way he's structuring the show. Kick of Makanta August Avin Shahian, Erin Show, August Fresh and Structor Ahogenshay. Da show hangin to his own show. That's what I'm going so for more so.
¶ Creativity, Originality, and Authentic Voice
It's an interesting Todd actually is in terms of creating stuff Majuleve Krohurda. Anybody who listens to the podcast often in Dina Avin Egeshtuch Leshambul Krail Gamin. They'll know I'm a big Oasis fan, this fan on the wards at Oasis Mahin. And not just in terms of their music.
which I just add on before listen or before recording this podcast will be Ershulam Jira Kriv and Pulkrail Shah Hafid. But it's also Liam and Old Gallagher and the type of people they are If I could do an interview with anyone in the world, I think it would be an old Gallagher, the Mechmean Podel or Oglev Lean Erdown.
Kiapum Kumersheimer Noel Gallagher and not just ask him about Oasis and the songs, because that's kind of been done, but you know Toshishin Jin to Hun Kesht a her of we are on Oasis or Albumy Oasis. But more so he's more nothing, his view on life and his thoughts on different stuff and creativity and writing and sminsi or rhodi to frulla about Krohu, Krohuirch, Dagis.
I think Shreve. And one of the things he says is that you know a lot of the Oasis songs they were not Rob's knee guidsuid, but He can explain, well, he got the idea for this song or that song directly from a song that came out before for maybe the Beatles or the Stone Roses, basically. Hogshay on smoinu, a nice way of phrasing it in Irish. He took the idea. Um Hogshay Unsmoinu Oh. Our on a Hollinger Mark Fehell, no truck of Bleen River Hill, the Stone Roses, no the Smiths, no uh the Beatles.
and basically not copied it ni ni ernish. In some cases it did, anyone who knows the song uh Shaker Maker by Oasis will know that's a straight rip-off. From Coca Cola Intena Owil Atnaku er on our on shaker maker Le Oasis Biasaku gur rip off Jiracus just hundred percent copy of Tong Aron Caul O Coca Cola. He kinda makes the points more so that
Nothing is original, especially with a guitar, Gahori and Moduleshan guitar. Like it's there's only a certain amount of chords, so therefore everything is a copy of everything else's coat by Gokradh to Gokradell, and you just have to put your own little spin on it. And of course one of the best ways of doing it is through the lyrics and slightly different strumming pattern or whatever.
I'm not here to talk about music, so it's maybe more closed example better sample of Buganini doesn't they'cause there is a limit. to how many chords you can play and how many different things you can do with the guitar to soron modulesh on maids rodi no one irid rodi garfage latinu lesh on guitar. In terms of podcasting, in terms of speaking, okay, of course, there's a lot more and it's a lot more open, but it's a lot more open.
I think one of the most interesting things in terms of taking inspiration'cause naturally you'll have to if you're creating anything, you'll take inspiration and even subconsciously, Gonova Iks Moinover, you'll kind of mimic other people. In terms of my work, might be mimicking other people who speak on podcasts.
Jane size imitation Jadini Ella Eglort or Fut Hilti, whether it be Joe Maloy on Injo Sport or Tommy Tiernan on private investigations or these different people I like Nadini, Jeffrey Ulyssha Ahant Nin Lum. But it's fine to kind of be doing that, but equally, if you want to achieve your own thing, you have to avoid a complete copy and you have to avoid trying to be too much like anyone else. Kahi to a Shinakyakinsh, avail Jane Weirk,
Cause we let then it so it's a it's a fine balance between taking inspiration and motivation and learning from the way someone else is creating, but not just doing exactly what they're doing. So it took all inspires, I guess like full and ruddy oh Diniella Athog Crohu A Gonova Ikgenu Jiroch on Rod Kina Maratoshidsen eggenu. But anyway, yesterday morning Modzenye to kinda give myself a bit of inspiration or idea.
I went for a walk for about an hour, the Sohumeer Solod Serva Laor and Bugnin Spragu, O'Horch the Mahin, and was listening to this episode of Private Investigations and really almost blown away by it like who is she go more go more evolution and listen to the way Tommy Chernon can speak and structure a podcast and how honest he is as well. Kegov Makonta Agzata She Kumma.
¶ Gaeilge Weekly's Core Goals
And it made me think about my own podcast and about Goelga Weekly. Hershey Mishakes Moino if we ma foot cry smino for weekly and I guess with this podcast I've always had kind of two goals. Of course the first one is I want to help people understand Irish better, tomegiri, g my dini and that people can have more Irish in their daily life. True listening to this podcast and the different versions and it being more accessible because the the lagnor to fruit school shape.
Nisy is ga, unruckta on of a ad or noilga to kinda have access to Irish and have it in your daily life, because yeva ad a hale layhool. But As well as that, the second thing, and this is probably more of a personal thing, Batrick Rodney's pars and they show is I want this podcast to be something you would listen to, yes, you listening, the Magiri, Gemech, and Potkrelisha, Rodegan, a Deshta Lesch, yes, Tossa.
Now, it's kinda tough to say that in a way,'cause you big needs actor on the general'cause of course this is a solo podcast, so I'm the only one speaking on here, especially on thin dinner a vein a glow turn show show. And I guess that's kind of just another way of me saying, I want you to think what I'm saying is somewhat interesting. Thummyri Good yapin to hand gun ruddy taller raw arms gul sheet similar.
Because otherwise why would you be listening? You're not gonna listen to a solo podcast unless you're somewhat interested in what the person has to say. Mun the will Sim Egan adds. Sn ruddy a toll raw egg on dinner in channel on foot crill of the person join. the podcast. But it's always been important with me, Goni Vishitov the Tom. I guess you can connect it to the first thing.
with the Irish language itself and helping people. The Bunch Nis Nis Laudsra Ega Lesh Anwelga Latini Moder Lesh Anwelga that, you know, if something's more interesting, people are more likely to listen and share it and I guess learn more as well ta Nismo chance eggini go volmoy sheed nismo I guess g munishmo time of some both craylock squirr sheet. Holland Potkryla range, but I think especially with Irish
Gorya Majala Shonwelga, you know, I'll be speaking about this in a few weeks for the Shakt and Nugwelk episode by Make Larch Vishnu Ig Young Couple Shakten Donagron Lah Shakta Nguelg. It's the only time of the year I ever speak about the language on the podcast just saying
and Tianam Irit Nablina in a meme egglaurcheglaurchwin Janga eheen erm both for one episode on Shakta Nwelga which is gonna be in two weeks time away er shul no vai eggdolama Yan Kaikish So I don't want to speak about it too much today. Yeah. I guess with Irish there's so many materials and so many podcasts and videos that are in Irish, but they're also about the Irish language itself.
A Totrivion Guelga Acomalishin Toshid Fuinga Ihan Agsfuinjanga or about the Gueldux or about agriculture Irish history and that's fine, that's in character lore. but it's something that's not done in other languages. Rod Noknia Ichang You know, when the people are going to Italy to learn Italian, they're not reading or listening to stuff about it the Italian language.
consuming Marzerafa Immer ruddy modulish and a dollish heen. And so it's always been important to me that Guelga Weekly is about more than just something that you listen to when it's ir in Irish. Igoni Toshitakar or Tashaitoveshke Gaeilga weekly, ma'r raadhaegen a tha, ní smol na just, okay, raadhaegen as Gaeilga, I mean, against the clash, if that's the case, that's fine, by the way, you might not be interested in this stuff. I talk about it all.
But I also want it to be somewhere where again I'm not trying to change people's opinions on things you make Janewear, Mion, Huini, Aru, or Kerbe, but hopefully just give one or two things to maybe think about based around Runho A horch chief Rudnoko Griffr Lev Smoynafu. You know, it doesn't have to be anything big or serious Nikaiva wrote.
¶ The Importance of Raw Honesty
on a on a Warg style era. But I want the podcast to be honest as well. Tommy Giri Gwellan Polkhaila Maconta and that's again listening to Tommy Tieron yesterday I listened to three or four episodes in the end.
and for some people who don't kind of get what he's on about Or what he's talking about, Landini bids are not digging a ruddy a will shake large foo who they might just think oh this is just some you know he's off the wall just becomes XY or Z but sh be only crack all Check Larch for X Y or no Z But in reality in the era I think it's amazing how honest she is on the podcast as well and that there's not kinda this type of facade.
as we'd say in English or in French, Margermudla, or it's probably a French word, chance my kerfocle frank a naun, some marger fa as franki.
But there's not this kind of act which I think there is with so many different types of media contents though and the long media contents differ I always say I would hate working in television and not because I don't like being on camera, I'm fine being on camera to Milan Sostanovet or camera, but having done my degree in journalism Thrishtum Machim Ayano Iran Erashork.
I realised a lot of stuff that's on camera it's very fake. Everything's set up. So, you know, you might be watching a TV show and someone knocks on a Um not talking about drama here'cause obviously that's set up, but a documentary would have a chlorofosh nation. No road they can march in.
Like someone knocks on a door to go interview someone and they open up and say, Oh, welcome in that was all set up, you know, the setup of young Light in and they were inside together a few minutes before and they said, Well, I'll go out now and when I knock on the door you open or Yellum Misha Klag Eranduras Kaitose O sculpture interviews, they start again It's not and that's fine and again I appreciate for TV to be to look as good as it does in the end.
They have to do it like that. They have to do it like that. Um it's one of the reasons um yeah, I'm not sure actually whether I agree with what I've just said in my keensa on on the Indium like Rogan because just thought of Louis True for example, a Louis True, there's none of that.
uh with Louis True and Elaine Rudd Xilishin Louis True and I think that's one of the reasons why he's done so well over the year the years Kyansa Nakushna I will say Tereshjinukha It's honest and it's not fake and it's not facade and again listening to Tommy Tierin against the club, Tommy Turnin' And yeah, you like that at random points in the podcast you might be talking about whatever pointsy random machuds and full krail beads or goals egg lower tree payroads.
And he kinda stops and goes, What am I on about at all? Sitting here in a shed in Gaulwig Seanshell in Olyvig Lorchvey XYZ and I'm going mad off the wall. I like that honesty and I like that he's not taking himself too seriously. Nok will say You know, and he he realizes ultimately as much as you can place importance on something Kiko Fadis Girfajalatovt, no bain a her a rodagin really watch his Gwelga Weekly, for example, but it's just me.
And my offices and say, Really it's my bedroom if a Jerem Gminnik cock really we come recall to town. and I'm just speaking away for half an hour, trying to fill the time until I get to thirty minutes, dig gene work ton on Palm, Linu, Riv or Hricum or Trochonomid, and then I hit stop and then I edit it, I put it out, and I get on with my life.
I think there's a lot of stuff that are so fake that's so fake nowadays, the machine ruled hope, nalay in the show. And again on on private investigations, there are private investigations I like how Tommy Turns Nash obviously he's in a fortunate position in terms of Probably has enough money to to get him to to the end of his life and for his family and all that.
And he doesn't need to be doing things with kinda the commercialism in mind and how am I gonna make money o' this king King Hui will meh an argila astra which is obviously a nice position to be in and not one many people are'cause Neil Alantini Snachin. Or not a lot of people kinda have the attitude of well I'll just make something I want to make and that's the start and the end of it, stomachrohu, a will make ery cruhu, a gin toos lore a the start middle and end of it.
you know, mm with Gwelgo Weekly, obviously it's part of my job, Toshimar Quidstem Fust, but I also like the idea of more and more just moving towards this is somewhere where I want to Express something that hopefully people can relate to because Rodegan A Kharanoul, Likuna Jay. Are they steining and on? Augus Avastinian. Hishkin should be a rudder, so fresh and hopefully to learn one or two things from this podcast outside of just the Irish language itself, TV.
You know, I never want this podcast to be too serious. They make Eric Will and pull Hyla show.
Gulcharoyer. Again, I could speak about different topics and different themes, to my non laur topic eats your frugal theme eats your frule, and botchel and sometimes make serious points. But even then, I hope you guys realize listening to ta soulong shouting out a few opinions or a few ideas or trying to fill a bit of airtime and I don't want Ninagiri that the podcast is in any way fake or trying to be something that's actually ever rather they can
And so that's really important to me. And again, one thing I really admire from Tommy Tiernan's podcast, Rodha Iganwell on Massagomer mods are lay. Podkirla Tamitiernin, how honest it is, cake of makanta agasha, how real it is, cake of fear, fearnuch axitas, and Yeah, that it doesn't take itself too seriously and I could say to wal in roya and making too big a deal out of anything I guess gone the says big deal no rudmore as saying ruddy.
Aside from that, I think the way Tommy speaks and his pauses and his intonations really module a vincheglarch, I think that's again like the gold standard really. And the way the podcast is produced and how simple it is. Kiko Shimplixia ermbodkraila. For me it's it's the perfect solo podcast in so many ways. But again it's not trying to be something it's national take Jane Wecht Gone of Mar on Rud Maritashe.
¶ Podcasting with Authenticity, Not Commerce
And it's being very honest, Augusta Mahontan, that's something I'm kinda striving for and always want more and more in terms of Guelga Weekly to make eerie ni smugs, these mods and roads in like Guelga Weekly and for just you know For this just to be in a world where everything is so complicated a sail in a will gokra the co costa and that there's so much anxiety about this and worry about this and overthinking I guess I'm ni gus bort I guess uh I explain them in the mark
And same for me, I'm not gonna pretend that I've everything figured out, sorted, no suckriha, amsa near herbe, not at all. I just want this podcast to be half an hour of being able to chat away and hopefully for you to enjoy it and and for that to be it. I hope that's made some type of sense. As I said, I'd highly, highly recommend anyone to check out Tommy Tiernan's podcast Wolhan Kumora Kumor.
Hun Shek Ayano Ags Eichdok Le Podkele Tommy Tiernin. It is really, really good. I'm not talking about T H L by the way, the one that he does with two other People Nimiklarch Fui THL and Hyan A Yen and Che La Burchellets, the one he does solo by himself. It's lesser known to Cov Callul Marath L, but it's definitely worth a listen.
um especially if you enjoy Goelga Weekly. It's like a much better version of Goel Weekly, but in English. You can think Goelgus Jen Shin fresh and there's a bit of Irish in there from time to time. Tommy was a big big fan of The Irish language lives very close to me. In Galway lives very close to where I grew up in Galway, Toshai, in the Honey on homework, Dumsa, August well Nidumsa Nishmer, Domeshville Ock Onoch, Garbasa Mahane. And I'll leave the place where I myself am from England.
