Journey to Santiago and Camino Reflections

Guelga Weekly is a learn Irish online production. To find out more about LIO, check out the description down below. Hello. Welcome back to the show. Foster Ashwake on show. You are now listening to Guelga Weekly episode number one hundred and thirty. Tatuanish the Le Hagron Kade is a trucke to Guelga Weekly, the bilingual, otherwise known as the lot simpler version on Lagan Dayangok, no Margliter er Gominik. How are we? Kunstomuj, hope all is going well and a big big thank you for tuning in.

This week, for the first time in quite a while, Anzakton Sa Augustan Khaedor let Hamel announced. I'm not gonna be focusing in on one specific topic or one specific idea or list like we did last week, Nivime Egger was shaker hoppic one erle no rhod one erle no list mar runamuds on socked and shotza.

I'm just gonna be speaking about the different things I've been up to over the last week or two here in Spain by Make Larch, we couple Rodzi Frul a ta or shoulogum le couple shaken anus on show suspon. So I say Spain and not Seville, German spawn Augsni Seville, because I'm actually up in the north of Spain again, as I record. Tommy who's It Dushkart Naspawnia Arish Agsmisha Egg tafu and us. Just like a few weeks ago I'm back up in Galicia, Jericho Likupla Shakhton wahin to my rash.

Unsha Hoos e Galicia up in the north of the West Jespain, who's in Ear Hochkart, Nispa, and I'm gonna be fine back tomorrow to my gecheltrash Gusseville Omoruch, and today is Tuesday as I record this in Yoja Mort. August Mishek Tafadu, the seventeenth of february. And found a brilliant time up here and the arm chanskun the the arm chansko fos er shulagum who's unshow.

I'm in Vigo at the moment, Tommy Vigo Free Law Her, but I spent most of the weekend in Santiago Tirashotana Hall is Santiago, or to give it its full name. and I am online over to Santiago de Compostela. And a lot of people in Ireland will know Santiago for probably one reason. Shan's ma goal at my egg along Earnick Er Santiago for one thing. Like Hoosh One of Fa One. And that is that it is where the Camino ends a vin on Camino e Kriegne.

So the full name again of the Camino is El Camino de Santiago de Compostela. So In the right in the centre, in the main square where the cathedral is, Jirk Elor Nachrok, Jirk and Akalesh, Onordoglesh. So friv Caranook, that is the place where the full Camino Enshinotch Avine on Camino Umlan Egchotwig on Gero. And a lot of people listen might have done the Camino or might have done parts or shallight shant small gnyarnish of pizza gen camino.

I myself did about three weeks of a sh a few years ago run in my hand, three Shaktunza Cupla Shaktan or Kuplablino hen, rather.

And I never got to Santiago, near Hirkme or Santiago. It was never my plan to get there. Near Oche Rive or in Chinagum, Huntul, Iri on Camino, my plan always was to start on the French border, Huntus, Hurle Eronchuron, Leshonrank, in a little town there on the border called Irun, Imolby, Conchin Eron Turon Darvanum Irun, and to go as far as Aviedo, which is about three weeks from

Yeah, on that community, it's a lot of different routes that on Schietze, you're fuller, but on that route, that's about three weeks in, and it took me three weeks. um Hogshay Three Shakton Dumsa Honey Shin again and it would have been another two weeks to get all the way to Santiago but I only had about three weeks free so that's why I went to Aviedo Nirock but it's a tree shochtin

Sirogum August Mariala Shin, who we make Aviedo, August stop me, on Shin. So finally this weekend for Yara on Jarashata Show, I did get to Santiago. I got to the cathedral and prick me air on our dogklesh, even though I flew there instead of walking, Detroit's in an of uh egg shoe, but it was certainly a lot easier and a lot more pleasant on the one hour flight rather than the eight hundred kilometer walk on outfish jesha, August Nice Aiska, Erin Etchel, or

and me playing Pokemon Yellow on my phone and Smashegimer Pokemon Yellow or in phone than it would've been doing the full eight hundredk walk in Artsaveg Jeno on Sulo Zumlan Erfa Utgade Hilimit. But over the last few years I've been very lucky to be able to travel around Spain a lot. The Couple Blindenus Vianthogs Fos Thaw on Tod Zarg Erm

To be able to do a lot of travel within this country, Honavetin, Alant Hashtaliano, Sachir Shah. And I've probably seen at this point twenty, maybe even twenty-five cities. Chance ma egg and winch show gwilkuig ha her is fehe no feha. Call her air reliable. Fekya Ogum and I have to say I think Santiago is now in my top five Cap Captain Guy Mera will Santiago Anishmarquet top five. Really, really likes it. Hattenshake more Gmoral.

I'm gonna do a full episode actually soon uh on Guelga Weekly before the summer of my top five cities in Spain and best places to vis visit in the Hunt Corch O Horch Urhu, especially places to visit if you're trying to avoid the touristy places Gohorya, Atsna Bikertich Dol Mototigiri, Na Ochina Nis Touristy, Yugznachina, Lelant Horsery, a Hyakinsh.

Finding Irish Pubs Across Spain

So I'm not gonna speak too much in detail about it. I gas a numberka sonri a horch jive foot. But I really liked I liked how every part of the city was quite different. Jenchar no goter thief is J Jenchar every kind of neighbourhood within the city. Vish Soch Zefru, so the city centre was different from where the station was, Marhamp Vilor Nako.

Ziffruel, all nuts are out on Starshoon, where we were staying was different from the area around the station. All nuts around Woodjake Fanak visit Zifru On Ot in Akaleshan Stoshun, then the area towards the north of the city or is quite different again. On Kyanter, Idushkarnakah Visheshin Sok Tsifril Arish

So I suppose the important thing to say here on Rodstalvic the Laurent Shaw is while they were all quite different, I liked them all. Hatton, sheet, galaire, lum, and it was really nice, obviously a lot of history in the place, a lot of stars and all Not much tourism there, especially this time of year in the moron. One of the small things I do while I'm travelling around Spain and going to different cities Keonarudi Byugga Avine May Jainugs Misheg Tashtel Team Spañag Dull Hug Nakrika Sho is

Although in general I always eat in local places and drink in local places, kick me in me ago ni egehe agol inochnachula. I'm not really interested in international bars or places, near more and simugum and in Otsna an a Idirna Shunto on Ehe Sol and Jalakon's just a normal local place, nothing too fancy or nothing touristy, ni ain't right on a fancy noin oatchl on tour.

One thing I do like to do is every city I go to try and find if there's one Irish bear there and just go for one pint stolen sin, Pionta Owan, because Pionta Owan no max golf on sin. And I kind of have a little collection almost or almost a little story book in my head that says Balukha the Nish.

I'm a insane about all the different Irish pubs I've seen in Spain. And it's fair to say there's a there's a mixed bag, Keintes, Virgil Murray, well mask on, I'm looking mask on, to hide on, definitely a mix of kinda standard and quality. Certainly if you go to the places where Irish people are living in Spain, gone down to Mahin to Whigna Hots and in a willin' a hair and a in a goni suspine.

you do find a lot of Irish pubs that are very similar to back home and kind of real authentic ones, you know, is Vejlatchacht, Erlant Chihat, Harvana Ern It says fear Irish Bobus at Ancasul Leshnakin Arrash in Aaron. But most of Spain, I think people forget there's very few Irish in Nilmore and Aaron agreed he suspawn Snahotinella. For example, places up here like Vigo and Santiago, Oviedo I mentioned earlier, Louis May, Oviedo Nisluja.

In the south where I live, even Seville quite a big city, few as Seville The Kahir Sochmore, very few Irish, I would say I know most of the Irish there. Gapum Gwil Hudgesmodes and the Hirnick Will Heinto Atna Agum Erhu. It's really not a big community, need pobble on a war eye. Again, the same could be said of places like Toledo or Cádiz or Almeria, Córdoba, or Caceres, or Bilbao, or San Sebastian.

Really, there's very few Irish in those places, Newmore and Erinigs, Nahotch and Shin. And that makes the experience of going to these kind of random Irish pubs. Why? Well because normally it's not really an Irish pub can't fall. Well jig naughty nock, no Irish pub car. a tawana. It's more so you know how when you go to the supermarket on Tulwarga and you go to buy some yogurt, chain to one piece of yogurt of Hyanuk and they have Greek yogurt and Greek style yogurt.

Tog Greek Yogish Yogish Gregook Agil Negrega to Yogurt La Fall. Well, I would say most of the bars here are very much Irish style as opposed to anything else. They wouldn't really have any Irish owners or any Irish people working there. And again, why should they? King Fa Air and egg on scene egg upper and also when I go into these places I go in with zero expectations.

The odd time me I'd be on Google Maps looking them up beforehand or in the vein or Google Maps like Jane U Cortu Rivray and I'd be looking at the reviews and there might be one from one or two Irish tourists or in the Binkyan Loho Oh Taurus or And they'd be saying, Oh, they didn't know how to uh do a Guinness or they didn't know how to pour this or that or we didn't have the GEA match on. I'm thinking

Why in the world would they have those things? Kinfall, Vichner, Rudyshin, Akk. They're just an Irish style bar who liked the idea of having, you know, the some of the typical Irish stuff there. But you can't go into a place across Europe and expect You know, Nefaj's that Dullis Jacks, Temple Horpa August Aveg Seul that they'll have footballer hurling on or they'll be able to do a good kinnis or they'll know what you mean by this or they'll have

Crisps or behind the bar, whatever. And he fades her a lot of uh exul, ruddy shin, unless you're maybe living somewhere like Berlin or Barcelona. With a lot of Irish odds could Berlin, no Barcelona, Le Nyarth, Erinik in a goni out. But with these places it's always uh interesting one. There's one or two good ones I've seen. There's a lot of ones that are trying too hard, I would say. Uh Nyartkin Wellit, Numerka era.

And there was one the worst one definitely, Gianus Massa, Gondouch. It was somewhere in the south. I can't remember where. It might have been Elmeria, Baits or Groshi in Elmeria or Calice or somewhere like that. Ortega and Marchin in Yeshgar, Nispa, in the south of Spain, and it was called Nirvana.

And you might be thinking Nirvana is a strange name for an Irish pub. Shanskull to explain it own la high choctorvn no pub Ernoch. And of course you're right, Arnoy Tonkartad He used to be called Mulligans, we saw in some of the reviews Hunning Mudge Grau Mulligans Martin Hanum of V Er Rivishin, but they were in the middle of a transition, so we should elore Ahru.

From an Irish pub to a heavy rock, almost kind of metal pub fish, a lore ahru, oh toc through an air in a Gachtorvin size rock, no few heavy rock, metal, grunge, badrashin, fuckle jas air, rhodagin, marshin. something like that or something along those lines. So when I say they were in the middle of a transition, they're germ groushi the lore ahru, what I mean really is the transition was done viaku.

But they'd still have shopping one or two Irish flags and there were still Guinness available for us for Coop LeBroth there in the Cheap and large August Veginnis post La Fall Fresh and everything else had very much changed, including the what the staff were wearing and the music that was on and the ability to pour any decent drinks among coming. on aim jokjart aher lafal fresh and

But again, I didn't go in with any expectations. It was probably the worst skin I've ever had, but that's okay. God knows no beads or on Guinness Ismasa of Yagm Reev a Shinkyargalor Arish, you can't go into these places with expectation because they don't owe you anything and There's very few Irish in these places, Nilane. Uh Aaron Igsnahoch and a shin, you know, it'd be like going to a very small place like I don't know Atlone or Ennis or somewhere in Ireland, Chag and Rushing.

And be expecting they'll know how to do a Spanish meal perfectly or Spanish drink perfectly soul, g mechsin in on bail naspana ayano gafurfa or joch naspanya geferfa. But I was in one and I mentioned this'cause I was in one in Santiago if we may I gion is chic on Shin Santiago and it's one of the best, if not the best one, I've been into in Spain. Kyon Tanquin Is Far and the Baitran Kion Is Far Spawn. A w again away from the kinda

heavy Irish areas, Nordsen, and so on, Nugus Marchingia. It was great, it was it was subtle, they weren't trying too hard, near Archdic Geno Unamarch Iruk, but that's what I kinda like. um they had one or two flags up but not just let's just put an Irish flag here or Guinness thing here. It was stuff that you would actually find in a bar back at home. Roddy

Uh to Erhu, Itsaktorvna Eranuk, Arash, An Aaron. You know, even they had the flag of the provinces instead of the Irish flag, and notch brought Ernok Re brought it's in the Koogie Aku, you know, the one with the four different things with the connoch flag, the Lenster flag, and so on. And they had Six Nations on, which again, rugby's not a big thing in Spain Spain. You were the more in rugby and so on. They had it on the right channels and all that and

the you know, small things. And the Guinness they did brilliantly. And Guinness Fish and they did the two poor and everything. And again, I don't really care about that stuff. It's coming along a really shin. But I thought, you know what, this is if you're gonna do an Irish style bear, this is how to do it. Sho, and hui, on a ian one small. Not doing too much. Again, most people coming in were Spanish.

But spawn yeed and khudj's modes and the deini, a jackta shaq said. This is this is one of the best ones on the list, but I'm sure Hopefully in my future travels around the country and Lacoon Jay Uh Much Tashtal Chimpel Nichira Satauki. I'll definitely have a few more stories of interesting ones, shall we say. King Simula Israel and Raw.

Life in Seville: Weather, Friends, Expats

As always. Back to the show. Apart from that, all has been good down in Seville, Shaka Sein, Togakrod Igdoguma Heast Seville. We had a lot of rain over the last few weeks and quite a wet January or February. The Mi Anargs me fierce flux. Again, we're not really too far from the Atlantic.

In Seville. Neil Maduroa the On Atlantic is Seville. So a lot of the time where there's a big storm coming into Ireland, we also get the kind of tail end of here in the West of Spain, been mudja eggfall and tail ends ye non piece of jarnoch on shaspon. And let's a bit of an issue for me last week. Jari Fib Bjugnin as sho dumps on Token Shkotcha. is that I live on the ground floor and my apartment door opens up onto the street.

Sotomisha Imhoni Ervonlevil Agus Osclin Mohoris Girk Whig Nishraja. So because of this my door is exposed to the other. Augustus Fader, and I'm sure of Igbullahs. Now thankfully when I say the weather, the elements Bigs Legia, nor German, I'm sure none elements in Merla. Most of the year that just means that it's getting hit by thirty five or forty degrees Celsius sun on Kud's Mojin Vlen just beanshake fall on Green.

Kouikame a structure no character came on Kojismo Sen Chentamax and Kojismo Chen Lane. Over the last few weeks that turned out to be rain. That re sheshin wick boshak the noose and a lot of rain alone bosh. And what happens because the door is made of wood, Marial Gul andurus Jinta as I'm It actually started to expand. Hussi She Egayri Nismo. Now I don't really understand the science.

behind this ne higim hain on olyuk bunch less an oly uk heard y but seemingly you think the wood fibers get bigger and anyway it expanded diary shiny small and it was barely able to open and close it if you may bug knock So hatch call my landlord form Glech Akar Ir Mahirn Talun and thankfully Bix Legia I have a landlord who sorts things out like that. I know so many people don't.

Uh Big S Legia Neil on Ibishenagum. Thankfully I don't have that problem. I certainly did once or twice in different places in Spain, keen to grow on r on Ibishenog, on Rodshainagum, Rivershast to Spawn with different landlords like Cherny Taluna.

Zerfruula who were a lot lot worse. August Vish a Wadni's master, but thankfully of someone who sorts it out now and on the same day got someone over. But it was interesting. I was thinking God, now we see when no doors are built out of wood here in Erland Janish, Tigum Kinfall, Nawil Dershainta As Imud Arrash in Aaron, and thankfully so'cause you can imagine how much of a disaster it'd be a Spray Latin. But also at a French over vision, briefly, Vicara, Echt or

Erfat Coupla Law. He wasn't really coming specifically to visit Mini Roche on China Seville on Korch Horch Ermsa, but he was heading to Malaga. for a stag party and he used to live in Seville Svish Dolwig Malaga Hunt Dolga Kosher Stag and Vichy in the Honey is Seville Cuplinohin and he said why not fly to Seville and it's only about two and a half hours on the bus or a train then?

from Seville the trains actually closed the moment because the accidents thought on the train doesn't re fila her it's not running at the moment. Because the accidents that most people will have heard about a few months ago Marial Ernatashmi Aharl Cupla Miohin Nagis keen to go to shin clush the egg alondini fui shin. But he he was getting the boss over and said, Why not? Spent a night or two in Seville. So it's lovely to see him again with Sean Jason Cheshin, uh called.

And just uh spend a bit of time talking about different memories from Seville, Hon Pisa Arm, Achahuiglaurch, Fuikwivni to Frula, O Seville and how he's doing he's moved back home now to Dublin, the Sheshindresh Buguras Govlak Lea and he's thinking of buying a house there, Tosheshin explain if we chok a conjunction.

It is really good, you know, it's one of the best things about living abroad. Can't in a ruddy sparf we have a Idahoney Harlar, especially somewhere with nice weather here in Spain. You're you're kinda saying to people, Why not come over for a few days and lucky to have the apartments where they can stay

On thaw arm goilon or sanogum magazes, but it was interesting as well because it also made me think Hershey Mishig Smoinu Fuy I've been in Spain now for five years and met a lot of different people, lived with a lot of different people, Tommy Mahonian show suspawn kuigblina news, Tommy Terrace. Casa La Dini Exola, in la noche, a lot of different apartments and houses, Lon Chihuahu Orsawny.

Egg Sula and you know, you get to know a lot of people, but not many people stay around really for that long. Even more on Dini of Eunic Fonick to call Fallishin, I would definitely be on the upper end of it by now being here five years. Keencha. Gulmishet Rishfanocht nismo arma no Marvin Gnaw diner Egfanok Zegnaw.

So spawn and so you meet someone, you have a great time with them, living in the same city, a g fallnacht no. Avet Idahoni Sachiracana, Nosha Cana, Erfa Kug Shavy, five or six months a year, maybe even a year and a half, Bajerblin few Bajerblin Gale. But then after a while they move home or maybe I moved city within the country, badger Gurvog Shitsen Arrash Awalia no Gurvog Misha Gate Ganela Suspawn or things move on and you go your separate ways, Chaintini.

Otsena, your fruula, and sometimes you see them again, sometimes you don't. You know, orn't uh feckin to Nadini Sha orish orn't to eat, sometimes you saying contacts orn't uh Fon and Shiv I Jagual Lakelus, sometimes you don't or in the Neon and Tupac. A Jagualish and Tinashin and whatever it is, that's fine. It's come a call that call a Harleen, Toshishin, Kirklora. I suppose naturally you'll always stay in context of the people who are genuinely important in your life.

It's funny thinking about that, Toshi. Simil explained to Fuishin that it's such a privilege to be able to meet so many different people. It's more privilege in a bullish machine. We all know how it is if you're living wherever you grew up, it's not an Irish thing, I think it's around the world.

Garthogu who you'll naturally kind of just stick around with people you went to school or college with or workmates or whatever thought to hono hood small Egonskull, Egonol Skull, Sunobur Bazer, and maybe you don't branch out and meet as many people'cause you're not forced to bajer nienan to unro chin jet a vet a karatna or whoinijfrula getting to know other

people but the kind of negative of that then when you're abroad on me won't still known Rod Jultuk Leshin Ner Tatu Idahoni Harlar is that you only spend six months or a year with them and then you go your separate ways chain two you know or chain shift Go hotzina your fruel and you'll probably never live in the same city again. Chance man of my shav, no goodzoa, sachahir, hina.

But I guess that's kind of what makes it special as well. It's though yellow shin to mut because you actually really Are grateful for the time you have with that person being to buy as an om a taught lesh on dinner shin. So Although it can be a big positive, it can also be a negative but I guess like anything it depends how you look less fades or less of a marjultoch no rojarfuck uh nispawn ayon rodu eggfake and the five.

Tribute Band Concert Experiences

Apart from that I've also been to a few little gigs over the last few weeks. And they've actually both been tribute gigs. and the first one people won't be surprised by this people who listen to the podcast Lesh on Bud Krayla Gaminikni Vy eenthus Ervish, but one them was an Oasis tribute acts, yon the wall knock who Vishimar tribute acts la high oasis.

And it was really, really good. Vijay An on the Wa Kaime Ra. I went to one in November and it blew me away. It was the first ever tribute act I went to. Hui Megikion Oasis Mina Sauna. August Vish on a wall, Vishemar on Kiador, a who we may go tribute acts and to get to go and see one of my favourite bands, Hunovan Dol, Gion, the Mavani Cole, no Mavani Cole is Farlam. It was really, really good fish on on the wall.

Arous her fodd, really good altogether, and I kinda thought there's no way this one will be as good. Nilane Shanskumai on Kyansa Cove Mob, but it really was. Maybe the show and the production wasn't as good. Chance knocker on show non production come on because it was in a smaller venue and more just a small bar Vichy Slow against Vichy or Schuel it Jack Torvanya Nice Lou.

But in terms of the singing and in terms of the ability of not just Liam or the guy who was singing as Liam and Lad of Econu Marliam, but the whole group and group are fodd and they were fr from here, from Seville, Bas Seville, then so to even do it in your second language, Honey Shiningano, the Karachyanga. And on top of that, to do the kind of Manchester accent or the Manchester voice that Liam Gallagher and Noel have on on lots

As Manchon at all Egliam Agnol. It was really, really impressive uh Huish Ivoim Gmor Urm and I really really enjoyed it. So that was brilliant. And also went another one Who were a tribute act for Muse, who make Kyon I'll tribute acts of young la high muse. And I kinda realised during the concert, hook my feed area on Kyolkarm, that the tribute bac the tribute bands were really good.

uh Vishitsen Onawa, but the issue was that I realised I don't like Muse any Atnean Museum. It was fine because I was there with a few friends, we mentioned Lakup Kara, and the whole idea of it was just uh I do something with them and do something on a Friday night. And it was good crack the on a crackdown. But yeah, I realized God, Muse Music's Muse Music. Try saying that a few times, generic a Shinera hoopla or as Hela.

It was a bit heavy sh and Trum. I kind of just knew some of the big ones like what's it, Supermassive Black Hole and Hysteria and Knights of Sidonia and a few others.
