418. Is Crypto a Scam? Debate with Theo Cox from Life Itself

Theo Cox is Head of Life Itself Labs, a multidisciplinary research institute and consultancy that works across economics, governance, strategy and technology, and innovates systemic solutions to complex global challenges. 

Life Itself recently published its web3 and crypto guide - a multi-month project of research and analysis to "make sense" of crypto and web3 and to evaluate the various claims being made for and against.

In this conversation, we unpacked the reports findings, and engage in an honest debate of sorts as to why some of the findings may or may not be justified.

Specifically we looked at:

• Whether Bitcoin should be the new gold standard

• Crypto providing better payment and remittance services

• NFTs and whether crypto can better financialize non-financial value

• The social goods problem; and

• Whether most crypto solutions are searching for problems
