Episode description

The recent gender pay gap report revealed that a number of Australian businesses have a pay gap of over 50% .

Over 5000 businesses with over 100 employees shared their data with WGEA leading to the  landmark report.

The aim of the report is to bring transparency, accountability and commitment from business to work to reduce their gaps.

The overall message of this report and sentiment has been very clear, we no longer have the bandwidth to tolerate inaction or excuse, that moving forward we expect to see milestone improvements for both women and men.

Our national pay gap currently sits at 19%, which equates to approx. $18,000 less per annum earned by a woman and this has a significant impact on the choices that is available to them especially in retirement.

Dr Samone McCurdy is the Executive Manager of Capacity Building at WGEA and in this episode we discuss:

  • changes in the gender equality landscape
  • the findings of the report and what this means to businesses
  • employee involvement in driving change
  • inclusions of reports such as this in ESG reporting
  • future gender equality reports

This conversation is a must-listen for anyone interested in the state of gender equality in the workplace and practical steps organizations can take to build more inclusive, equitable cultures.
