Episode description

The Financial Conduct Authority has warned advisers it needs to look again at the equity release market to make sure it is working in the best interests of consumers.

This would be the second time the regulator has looked into this rapidly growing market to make sure it is working as it should.

So this week FTAdviser reporter Ruby Hinchliffe is joined by David Forsdyke, head of later life at Knight Frank and a former equity release supervisor at the FCA, and Laura Healy, a mortgage and equity release adviser at Fairview Financial.

They discuss why the FCA feels it needs to look again at this area, whether the rapid growth of equity release has been the cause of the regulator's concerns and what some of the hallmarks of good equity release advice are.

The FTAdviser Podcast is the weekly podcast for financial advisers, brought to you by FTAdviser. Each week, FTAdviser is joined by guests from the industry to discuss the week in news and pressing industry issues.
