'It's not the time for one-way bets'

The start to 2022 was a rocky one for equities, with the MSCI World index losing 14 per cent year to date.

While recent weeks have provided some respite for equities, with most markets rebounding to some extent, continued high inflation and rising interest rates mean equity investors could continue to experience something of a rollercoaster ride, with markets struggling to price in the changing economic circumstances.

This week FTAdviser contributing editor David Thorpe is joined by James Thomson, manager of the Rathbone Global Opportunities fund, John Moore, senior investment manager at Brewin Dolphin, and Jason Borbora-Sheen, manager of the Ninety One Diversified Income fund.

They discuss whether equity prices are pricing in the range of macro-economic outcomes, whether sectors such as tech have fallen as far as they can and the challenges of finding defensive stocks.
