Episode description

Meet the inaugural class of Learn Fresh Fellows! Launched in Fall 2020, the Learn Fresh Fellowship for Culturally Inclusive Education invites educators and curriculum writers of color to create and broadly share standards-aligned curricula that authentically represent the cultural, ethnic, and racial identities of their communities. After a rigorous review process, four fellows from across the country were selected as a part of the inaugural class.

Over the next four episodes, you will have the opportunity to hear from each of these incredible educators. In this episode, we meet Ashley Barnett, an elementary educator working in a private school in Baltimore. Ashley graduated from St. John’s University with a master’s degree in childhood education. She has been teaching for over 10 years in Washington D.C., New York City, and Baltimore. Ashley has taught K-4th grade students and art to middle school students as an elective. Her favorite age to teach is 1st grade and her favorite subject to teach is reading.

Throughout this episode, Ashley shares her journey to the Fellowship and her vision for change in the classroom.
