Episode description

The American Trucking Associations (ATA) estimated a record-high driver shortage of 60,800 at the end of 2018—almost exclusively in the over-the-road for-hire truckload segment. And forecasted it to increase to 160,000 by 2028. Bob Costello, Chief Economist and Senior Vice President at ATA joins host Chris Caplice in this episode to break down their estimate, understand the root causes, and explore some possible solutions. Think: Attracting new drivers, enabling increased shipper productivity, and adopting driver-assisted technologies. This episode wraps up with Inam Iyoob sharing the most recent North American truckload market rate trends and forecast powered by FMIC.
