¶ Episode Introduction and Waterslide Reality Check
Hello and welcome to For Real Life Pod. My name is Sharon. I am a super bluey fan.
And I'm Tori, a total bluey newbie, watching the episodes for the very first time.
And together we're reviewing and recapping the many adventures of the Healer family.
Let's dive in.
Hello everyone and welcome back to season three slide. How are you today Tori?
I'm great. How are you?
Good. I'm sliding to left. The right. That's enough of that.
Ha ha ha.
Don't worry, folks.
Everybody, clap your hands.
Maybe not not stop so much. All right. So today we're talking about the slide. How would you synopse this episode to someone who has never seen it?
Bingo and her friend No. Is it Lila?
Лила. Лила.
Lila.
Leela. I thought it was Lila too.
Leela. Leela. Okay. Bingo and Leela's kindness to a caterpillar is rewarded.
Yes it is.
Yeah.
So what did you think of this episode?
I think this episode is false advertisement for water sides.
'Cause they seemed a lot more fun than they actually are.
So this episode features how we think. Slip and slides should work and how much fun they should be, but in real life it never works this way. Like you think the kid will play, like you see Bandit like cutting the hedges off to the side. You think the kids will play and let you do no. They're constantly asking for help. There's constantly issues. You think that the kids are gonna play and not cry in this episode? There was no crying. No, someone always gets hurt. There's always crying.
You think, oh, you're going to hit it and you're going to slide really far. No, you hit it, you go like two feet. You don't slide as well. These kids were sliding effortlessly. They were not getting hurt. Well, when they were getting hurt, they weren't crying and they were not bothering their parents. This is none of this happens in real life around watersides.
I feel like you have some um unresolved trauma. Childhood or with the But I do agree. I do
They're never as fun. They're never as fun as you think they're gonna be.
Of slide.
Ja.
I do.
Like I when I think of fun water slides as a kid, I'm like at a water park. Not like at home on my flat grass. And I also I think most of my bad experiences are as an adult because I think, oh, this looks really fun. And then it's like you buy it, and then it's all messy and gross. And then you try to fold it up thinking you'll use it again. And then you don't, because when you get it out, it's all yucky. So I think it's mostly as a parent. It's mostly as a parent.
Tell us what you really think about Slack.
I think water slides are the worst.
My gosh. But going to a place that has slides, like a water park. Yeah. I'm way way up. Okay. So before we get begin and we get into it, I do want to shout out to a few listeners who have left comments or answered some of our polls. First we just want to say thank you to Marin, M-A-R-A-N. Hope I say that right, who wrote that she loves our podcast. Thank you. We love you as well. And then we want to say hi to Sydney Lyric, who said, I love Blueie. Same. You do too.
Yeah, us too. It's your lucky day, kids. Look what I just bought.
What is it?
Oh what is
¶ Bingo and Leela's Bug Rescue Efforts
It starts with Bingo and Leela are at the healer's porch playing a game of rock paper scissors. Leela wins, which bingo deems as lucky. And we kind of get that word comes up. I did not keep a word count of how many times they say lucky, but I would definitely say lucky. Probably comes up at least. And speaking of lucky, Ban is brought home a new water slide. Hooray!
Yay!
So it cuts to a caterpillar crawling up a blade of grass in the backyard before getting bounced off the grass when Bandit puts down the slide. He sets it up and the girls' tails start to wag. As he walks away, we get another shot of the calipillar being bounced around. Now this slide did look like a lot. And it looked like there was a lot of water on the slide, which I have seen slides where the water doesn't go all the way down.
And then.
They're trying to make it slippier than it actually is, right? So not this slide. The girls start to take turns on the slide while Band is in background doing yard work. Bingo slides on her belly while Leela goes down on her bum. Bingo exclaims that they are the luckiest kids in the world and the pair decides to go down the slide together. This is must be a really wide slide, too. Yeah. For both of them.
Um they hold hands and begin to slide before Bingo tells Leela that they need to stop. We need to stop stop now. Leela asks why they needed to stop and we see that there is a leaf bug that has gotten in the way. So despite what looks like an incredibly fast moving amount of water on the slide, the bug is So This is definitely not one of those for real life episodes, for sure. Did you notice that Bingo gave her a name?
Yes, and it was so cute.
Leficus.
Leave a careful.
I know.
'Cause it just reminded me of like all of her names that she does. Yeah.
Leela says that they she is very lucky that they didn't Bingo then grabs a stick and helps the leaf bug off of the slide, joining the caterpillar from earlier. Bingo then tells Leela that she's good to go, but then she quickly tells her to stop because there's a ladybird. Which we know is the Australian American translation for Ladybug.
Ladybug.
Ladybug. And the one reason that I know this is because here in the United States they have these things called Ladybird Academies, which are preschools for kids.
Didn't even think of that.
Yes, but it's a ladybug. Did you ever wonder? I remember'cause it was a place that we looked at for my son and I was like, Why is it called Ladybird? But it's a it's a ladybug.
And I remember that.
Mm-hmm. Yeah, it's a thing. So unfortunately, Leela slips when she tries to stop sending her down the slide anyway. But lucky for them, she stops right before hitting the lady bird, which bingo is able to get free. As bingo is putting it besides the slide, Leela sees an ant. And Leela asks if they can squish the ants, and Bingo admits that while she doesn't really like them as much as ladybug birds. God, it's really hard for me not to say ladybugs. Ladybirds.
She still doesn't think that she should squish them. Tori, what can they do? What can they do?
No idea.
¶ Creative Bug Protection and Challenges
Don't worry, Leela has an idea. If they roll up the edges, they can make walls and the bugs won't be able to climb over them.
Okay.
But were you like meaning when when they did this? Like But the water is coming out from the sprayers. Now the sprayers are folded down and tucked under, so the water's and I was like, It's is a kid's show?
You're being an adult.
I am being an adult. This is cartoon animals. Just go with it. Like logistically the water is not gonna work anymore, but it's fine.
It's a little bit more.
They roll up the edges to make walls so that the books won't get up there. And we are all lucky that Leela is so smart. So there's that word lucky again. Bingo decides to take a turn and starts to slide. However, a grasshopper hops onto the slide because Tori, did you know? Bingo did not. She has learned something new today.
Good job, Bingo.
Yes. Luckily Bingo is able to basically like jump or hop over the grasshopper. And then when she finishes, she states that the walls just aren't working as the grasshopper takes off, startling both the girls.
🎵 Music
Ooh, that was close. Yeah, grandpapa. You Back at the start of the slide, the pair ponder what they can do. I like the suggestion. Maybe we just close our eyes so we won't know that we're squishing the box. I mean that is an option!
Bingo's like, I don't know about that. I don't know either, Bingo. I'm with you, girl.
But Bingo is up for trying it. She's like, sure, let's try it. Like it's the one idea that we have, let's try it. But instead of going down the slide, she runs into Leela, which actually turns out to be lucky. For a rainbow iridescent colored beetle who ends up being saved. The amount of cool bugs in their backyard?
Well, this is the part that Charlie told me that you should avoid multicolor or rainbow bugs because it usually means they're poisonous. And I was like, Really? And she's like, Well that's what YouTube taught me. It's on the internet, it must be true.
Okay. All right. I mean scarab beetles are kind of scary. You always see them as like coming after people in like those mummy movies. So
Good call. Good call.
The pair sit back down on the ground, staring at the water slide, commenting about how it's just not fair. Bugs, it is not fair that you were out here in the backyard, in your natural habits. I mean come on, we can't use the water slide because they just don't want to squish them. Unlike their nanas, who apparently have no problem squishing.
That was a weird moment. Yeah, where both girls say, Well, my grandma will squish in, but my mom won't. Is this like a dig on baby boomer generation? I was like, hmm, this is an interesting generational divide call out. Bug murderers.
The bug murderers. Luckily, lucky again, their nanas aren't here. So Leela then comes up with an idea. One person who we're gonna call the bug inspector. Slides down very slowly with two sticks in their hand, removing any of the bugs out of the way. Once the slide has been checked and cleared, the other one will slide down the slide as
¶ Bandit's Hilarious Slide and Butterfly's Journey
Sure. Sounds about as good as anything else. So this works out for them with each of the girls taking a turn at first. However, on bingo's inspection, she sees a caterpillar and calls Leela over to check it out. However, as they are looking at the bug, Bandit charges in like there's no tomorrow. He's just like, I'm here. We're doing this.
And unable to get the caterpillar to move, the girls do the one thing they can think of and move the slide to make a 90-degree turn, which causes Bandit to slide through the grass into a gnome and the And this was definitely our comic relief for the episode. Yeah. Yeah. And while Bandits groin may not have survived, the caterpillar did.
Ha ha.
Bingo then moves the calipil onto a flower leaf, and we get a montage showing it changing into a beautiful The butterfly breaks free, flies away, and it cuts to Bingo and Leela playing a game of rock, paper, scissors again outside of their kindy. The butterfly lands on their hands and bingo says that's lucky end of at the
Aw so sweet.
¶ Bluey's Absence and The Sign Connection
I wouldn't say Banda gets the parenting award, but Leela has some great ideas.
I agree.
She was definitely the substitute for Bluey in this episode since Blue isn't always the one that has the ideas. It's a ladybird. Oh, I love ladybirds. We can't squish them. Come on, ladybird. Did you notice Blueie was not only not in this episode, they didn't mention her what?
Oh really? Is that a first?
I think it's a first.
哇
Because even in the other episode where Blueie wasn't there there was some mention of like Bluey's
She's at a birthday party.
birthday party. She's over at so and so's
and that type of thing.
So neither Bluey or Chili were in this episode and they didn't get. At all. The good news is we did get a montage. Yeah.
Montage. I love Montage.
For sure. Also, I guess on the behind the podcast, Joe Brahm said that a future episode will feature a connection. Ooh. Do you know what it is? No. There's only like three more episodes after for a morrow.
That's true. The sign. Everything connects to the sign.
It does. Do you remember Flappy, the butterfly?
Is it the same butterfly?
It looks like the same butter. Nice. It's a blue butterfly. But Flappy is like the butterfly that gets into the car and then they have to stop. And then the other thing and the connection that I noticed with the sign is that there's a lot of about like luck. Like And it's it kinda happens where they like they go to the one place looks looking for Frisky and they just miss frisky but then the butterfly like stops them and they have to pull over and then they s all the things. So yes.
Yeah, the sign is the only episode that I watched out of order. So when the sign came out, I couldn't not watch it and we did a live reaction to it. So it'll be interesting to watch it again because I didn't have all that connective tissue the first time. So it'll be really interesting to watch it again now that I have all of the episodes watched.
Yeah, I think the only piece that you had that they kinda like laid the foundation for was Rad and Frisky to begin with.
Right.
Yeah, because we had the Christmas episode, Christmas swim, and then we had baby s double babysitters. So but yeah, they've done some other stuff since then. And then Cameo, but one of my favorites, the gnome.
¶ Bluey Lego Sets and Aussie Translations
In this case You love the gnomes.
I do love the gnomes. Poor Jeremy in this instance. So yes, and speaking of the gnomes, I'm super excited. Bluey is doing an official collaboration with Lego that comes out this year.
Drum roll, please.
There's a little chattermax and a little gnome in the blue.
Oh my gosh.
In that one. There is a Pavlova in the Duplo version. So they have Duplo. They have two Duplo sets and then they have three like regular sets. All the sets are for like ages three and up,'cause you know with like Legos sometimes it's like nine and up or you know. So none of them are gonna be hard to put together. But in the duplo set of the house, there is a little Pavlova.
Cute.
But it's just a square because everything's they're just like bigger and they're just like squares and it's the image on there. Yeah. There is gonna be a t little tiny chatterbax and there is gonna be a little gnome.
So cute.
I'm so So, so very excited. Well will we be adding that to our current Lego collections? Yes.
I will, for sure.
Yes, we will. For sure. And what's I don't know if you've seen them. Have you seen them at all?
I s have not gone and checked out the whole line, but I have seen a couple of them. Yes.
Yeah. Like. made the character. And there's clo there's one that's a Chloe, which is the Dalmatian, right? And normally she has floppy ears and her little like figurines really adorable as well. So Spread the gnomes the gnomes show back up. Yay, we love gnomes. I know. Love the gnomes.
🎵 Music
Do you have any other notes for this episode?
The Aussie American translations, they did not call it rock, paper, scissors. I don't remember what order they did it in, but it's like scissors, paper, rock or something. They do it in a completely different order than we do it.
Oh, that is true. I didn't think about that. Yeah.
I can't remember what order it was. I didn't write it down, but I know it was not rock, paper, scissors. It was something similar, just in a different order. And I thought that was kind of funny.
I also, um, I think I've told this story maybe before, but my son for the longest time thought that it was rock, paper, scissors, shoes. Like when he was learning to when he was younger and he was like learning
Instead of shooting
He's yes, instead of shoe, like so he would say shoes and I'm like, What's the symbol for shoes? That's hilarious. What does that drop? But yeah, the first couple of times he was like, Rock, paper, scissors, shoes.
It's like what is the Big Bang Theory. They had a version of Big Bang Theory and it was like rock, paper, scissors, something spot.
Okay, so in the Big Fang Theory, it was rock, papers, scissors, lizards.
There you go. Lizard.
Scissors cuts paper and decapitates a lizard. Paper covers the rock and disproves spiritual.
Mm.
Rock crushes lizard and breaks the scissors. Lizard poisons Spock and eats paper. And Spock smashes scissors and vaporizes.
So funny.
I can't remember what the lizard. But yeah.
So funny.
They created a whole thing. Yeah. So there's definitely versions of that. So maybe shoes. I don't know. Shoes
We can make a shoe version. Something. Step on things, untie the laces. I don't know. We could get creative.
Awesome. Well thank you guys so much for joining us today. Come back next week when we talk. Ooh, probably extensively. I feel like it's gonna be a little bit heavier of an episode. Cricket.
Thanks. Bye.
